Too bad it's a seasonal bar because it trumps anything on the Island. Great bar menu, water views, friendly staff, and tropical music on Thursday evenings and Sunday afternoons. DJ Al is on the dock Friday evening sunsets with shots and a conch shell salute ending the day's sunlight. A cozy tiki bar on the end of the pier with attention to the Trop-Rock theme that works so well in the location. So glad we live only 10 minutes away!

Love the outdoor bar seating and the friendly bartenders! Great place to go and relax with the locals.

Great vibe/atmosphere and right on the water! Very chill and relaxing! Good food, but somewhat limited menu.

This is a chill spot. It is going for, and does a pretty good job of, a Key West kind of vibe. Smaller and more relaxed than some of the other bars nearby. Overall a very good place for drinks on the water.

The funnest place in kent narrows. How can you beat drinks on a swaying dock in the Chesapeake? The food was better when actuall grilled it on a gas grill along side the bar, but if your looking for food this isn't it. If your looking for a great place for a few drinks THIS IS IT!

This is the first place my girlfriend and I tried on our first venture out of Annapolis and across the Bay Bridge a few weeks after moving here from California. I've got to believe this place gets really hopping in the summer, but on our Saturday visit on a cool, grey afternoon in late April, it was just a small group of friendly locals, mostly boaters and fishermen, drinking, visiting with each other, and taking in a hockey game on the TV. This is a t-shirts-and-shorts casual, on-the-dock bar with super friendly staff and a really great vibe. The Big Owl has good, reasonably priced drinks, and a nice selection of beers on draft. The menu is small, but what they do they do REALLY well, including the most amazing steamers platter stacked with clams, mussels, and shrimp that I've ever had. This place is seasonal, and there's only a small inside bar which gets full pretty quickly when it's still cool outside, so bring sweatshirts and jackets in case you wind up on the dock if it's still springtime when you visit. Outdoor seating is HUGE - lots of bar and table seating available on a nicely decorated dock with a funky, resort-like flavor. Live music on weekends in season. We're going to be back. A lot.

Decent bar food, good drinks, but everything is way more expensive than other local hangouts! I come here for the view (amazinggg panoramic views of Kent Narrows), the live music, and the general ambience of the "Key West-esque" tiki bar on Kent Island. It gets pretty crowded here, so don't expect super attentive service or peace and quiet.

Atmosphere is awesome and great location. The hours kind of stink on the weekends but I can look past it for the beers :)

Stopped here to escape traffic on our way home from Dewey. Amazing view and atmosphere. We loved the live music and had super friendly and attentive servers. The food was delicious and both the food and drinks were very well priced! I'm not one to make stops during my travels but I don't think I'll ever be able to pass this place up when driving by! If you're stuck in traffic definitely consider making a stop here - you won't regret it! We are actually planning a weekend vacation to Kent Island before the season is over so we can enjoy the tiki bar once more before it gets cold!

Had an amazing time over Father's Day weekend at the Tiki bar! Great atmosphere, great food and excellent drinks! Dean took great care of us at the bar and Big Al ran the turn tables like a champ! Highly recommend coconut shrimp. ***left my credit card by mistake and they mailed it to me! Definitely will go back!

Want to watch an amazing sunset on the water? Want a cool bar with cool people and good food? Want to hang out with the locals? This is it. The Tiki Bar offers good food, good service, great water views and live music. Every Thursday they have a steel drum musician, Lenny, that plays from 5-9pm but he normally runs longer because he seems to like what he does. I had the Jerk Chicken sandwich that was really tasty. Take this trip over the Bay Bridge and feel like you're really in Key West hangin with the natives. Big shouts to Donna and Frank. Great bartenders. Excuse my misspelling in the photo. Lol. One drink to many and yes I know it's you're.

It came to my attention recently that I never wrote a review for this place. I can only assume that I was subconsciously hiding it. This is "must-do" for spurious Kent Narrows classy seafood adventures that are fated to become bar-hopping dance parties. Of course you can have a classy romantic sunset seafood dinner in Kent Narrows, in fact Big Owl has some good food too. But the less well known allure of this gem over the bridge is the crazy partying you can do. Big owl is as in the water as it gets....you walk down a dock over the water to get to this dock bar . Tiki torches and fake illuminated palm trees abound! I have been several times and everyone is always friendly and having fun and more often than not..dancing on weekends. The crazier partying will of course be had at the jetty or red eye, but if an Own Wilson romantic fall in love comedy was to be filmed in the area THIS is the bar they would use. never seen a "DJ" per say, but typically there are big speakers and some lights and some person letting the current dance hits roll out of a laptop. drinks will be much cheaper than DC, they offer basicaly the same beers all of the narrows offers : Sweet water 420 pale, dog fish 60, (cuz they have fish on the tap handles) fordham copper, and whatever lite. I hear goods things about non-beer things but cannot say cuz I do not care.

A great place to grab a drink and a bite. The fry tray is great! The fish was fresh and the coconut shrimp are crunchy and heavy on the coconut flavor! Big portions on the fry tray. We'll be back next year!

The good - extremely friendly and prompt service, great outdoor location, and fun super casual atmosphere. The so so - clam strips were straight from the bag (there are some good ones though but these were not). Mussels in butter wine sauce were off.....texture and flavor wise. I have never NOT eaten a serving of mussels, but I did here. Fish sandwich decent, tender flaky white meat and not deep fried, which was a plus. If I'm hankering for seafood I would probably go to the many other fish houses in the neighborhood, but If I want a cold drink and entertainment, I would come back here.

A hidden gem when it comes to places to go on the water. Hard to find if you're not a local but it's there I promise. Prices are reasonable and the bartender are very attentive. The best part of this place is the view and the atmosphere. No drama, no fights, just peaceful views while sipping on some drinks.

Of the 3 dock bars located on Kent Narrows, this is the smallest of the three, but that shouldn't stop you from giving Big Owl a try. This smaller more intimate dock bar usually has an acoustic duo or a dj providing the background music. When you've had enough of the loud bands and 20 something dock bar revelers, Big Owl is the place to be. The crowd at Big Owl is a 30 to 40+ something mix, the atmosphere is more of a Jimmy Buffet & Key West kinda vibe, and the views over the water are spectacular. You can arrive here by land or by water with plenty of space to tie up your boat. The menu is a step above bar food, but not too far above, so don't come here looking for 5 star dining. But the drinks are cold, the bar tenders are friendly, it's a laid back crowd, and it's well worth seeking out this little gem on the water.

Amazing view of the Chesapeake... tiki bar... cool breeze... cheap drinks (YES!!!!)... wonderful service... Terrific bar food!!!! I almost hate to give a review because I don't want everyone to know about my little slice of heaven, but Big Owl deserves it. This place has helped me keep my sanity many weeks ;-) I have been coming here for about a year, and this is one of the few things that I miss about the Eastern Shore. This is the go-to spot for after work Happy Hours in a chill envrionment. EVERYONE here treats you like family--- visitors, regulars, servers, and the owner. My favorite was the mozzarella sticks, but they are no longer on the menu. Since there aren't any vegetarians options, I get either the fries or fried pickles. Both are great with alcohol, but bad on the waistline (don't neglect the gym). The stand out is their deep fried key lime pie!!!! OMGoodness!!! The damn pie is wrapped in tortilla, and fried! It is so wrong, but oh, so good... If you ever decide to cross the Bay Bridge, make a stop at the Big Owl! The natives are friendly and the drinks are cheap :-)

If you have a high tolerance for Jimmy Buffet, this may be the best place place to catch a romantic sunset on a hot spring day. It's a no frills dock bar, with a Key West theme, located right before the bay bridge in Kent Narrows. We were here for drinks which were generous on the alcohol but the bar food looked pretty mouth watering. The staff was very kind to our tired group of surfers and our surfing dogs too. Will be back for crab cakes.

  • Meredith L.

They have a Key West theme, with Jimmy Buffett music playing and fake palm trees, but it manages to feel less cheesy and more "locals bar". Burgers are good, but if you want one order early & be patient. They pour GENEROUSLY: I even had to ask for a little more cola in my Jack & Coke. It's a TINY place & on a nice day can be so packed you can't get down the dock just to get there! I like to go on an off night when only a few locals are milling around, because then you can just grab a stool, or better yet a table on the dock, get yourself a drink and some good pub food, and watch the sunset at one of the BEST views that side of the bridge.

This is a dock bar. A real, serious, tie up your boat, dock bar. It's small, no doubt about it, but the fun is nearly oversize. A warm breeze from the south on a sunny afternoon is just about the best thing in the world. True sitting on the dock of the bay action. You're not going to find fancy martinis, or foodie food, this is as simple as it gets. If you're lucky, you might catch Al and his son having a conch blowing contest. Kinda amazing.

Great little spot on the water for drinks and food. Extremely unpretentious and an atmosphere that is open to meeting new people. They had live music where the band played on a floating stage covered in sand. It was pretty cool Food took about 30 minutes to come out, but the wait staff claimed they were backed up due to the Labor Day holiday. They bought me and my girlfriend a round of drinks which was really nice of them. Sunsets are beautiful. My girlfriend is from Florida and she gave her stamp of approval for a great bar out on the water. Planning to go back again soon before it gets cooler. About a 25 minute drive to and from the city...

One of the more fun, more friendly bars in the area. Super casual and chill. Right on the water, which is very pleasant. It gets alternatively busy and then empty depending on the time of the evening, but the staff is great, and the owner (I think that's who he is) is always around mingling with guests and lending a hand. Try the cheeseburger, as it is fantastic, though you may have to wait, as others have pointed out. They also have crush drinks made with fresh squeezed juice that are refreshing in the summer. A great local after-work spot to grab a bucket of Landsharks and sit out on the dock. Or just boat yourself over and tie up, somebody is always willing to lend a hand. The current going through the narrows can get interesting, and with my buddy at the helm of his boat, it was entertaining having the locals yell out helpful advice as we docked up one night.

Crabcakes done just right, great jerk chicken. Shrimp skewers were deepfried but not greasy at all. The burgers smelled great but we didn't try them. Very friendly, personable service, reasonable prices. This bar and grill is on the end of a little pier in an inlet off the Chesapeake. You can sit at the bar inside, or at picnic benches or barstools right on the water. Kind of a beach shack atmosphere without the sand. We rolled in on a Sunday night on the way home from the shore, as the band was packing up, just in time to watch the sunset. They wouldn't admit it, but I think they kept the kitchen open for us.
