I had dinner last night with friends and family here. The chips and salsa was great, light chips and warm tasty salsa - nice touch. My meal was good - not great, too salty. For the price I expected a little more care in preparation. The presentation was good and the service was excellent. Others in the group commented the meal was good but not quite worth the cost of the plates. I hope the chef takes note and makes the simple adjustments to make the dishes worth the price. The atmosphere is pleasant and clean.

Friendly staff. Awesome tortilla chips with even awesomer salsa when you get seated. And the best pollo asada I've had in 15 years.

We stumbled upon this place in historic Gaithersburg and were very pleased with the outcome. We went on a Saturday afternoon, before the evening rush. There was a steady flow of business: 5 other tables served during our meal. Started off with strawberry margarita with a nice kick. We shared the Yuca Con Chicharrón which was outstanding. The sauce was delish: the pork fell off the bone, and the yucca cooked perfectly. That alone as an entree would have been awesome. I had the chicken enchiladas which were tasty and filling. My wife had the Carne Asada. It had a real flavorful marinade and they actually cooked it to her specifications (medium). The rice that accompanied the steak was usually good (not just plain rice). The chips were good, not as salty as they can be at other restaurants, but the salsa was not so chunky. We were disappointed when they didn't refill the bowl. The staff was very friendly, the manager (possibly owner) came by to check on us. Overall a great Mexican experience. We will definitely be back and would recommend to others looking for a good Mexican meal.

First time here and we will be back! The food was great, we had chicken enchiladas and beef burrito. The chips and salsa are home made and great!

This place was amazing the food is great and the staff is even better! We had the fajitas and they were just on point! We had 3 of the desserts and they were delectable too. You gotta go to this place

Great experience. Good lunch menu portions were good size and the chip and salsa (warm) was excellent. Will return

I came here to lunch with a friend and we were not impressed. The salsa they provide is warm and although it had a decent flavor, I couldn't get over the temperature. Both of our meals came with cold rice and beans (did they plate the first half too early?) The tortillas that came with the fajitas were stale. The main part of the entrees were good (we ordered chicken fajitas and a chimichanga) but nothing really stood out for the price that we paid. The server was friendly, but could have been more attentive (there were only three tables of people in the restaurant). Our water glasses remained empty for a long time. I usually try and support the locally owned places but they need to work on their attention to detail.

Absolutely one of my favorite things about Yelp is the wonderful guidance we get from Yelpers in other cities. Once again, we found ourselves in an unfamiliar place looking for a great meal after the Young Un's athletic competition. A quick check, great reviews, a great experience. Don Jorge's is in the 'historic' area of Gaithersburg, an area we can see is working hard to revitalize. The building sports a well maintained and good sized parking lot, a premium item in this area, mostly built up before cars. As it has recently snowed, we were pleasantly surprised to see how well cleared the lot was, with no icy patches. We came rather late in the evening, just at the tail end of the dinner service. We were warmly greeted and seated in a comfortable booth. The restaurant is beautiful and understated, with white linen tablecloths, tasteful southwestern and Latin American art, and crystal light fixtures. This is not ricky-tacky Mexican restaurant decor with sombreros, pinatas and colorful blankets. It definitely has an upscale but approachable feel. Our server, Alex, was friendly and attentive. He came out right away with menus and greeted us warmly. Then they brought out tortilla chips and positively addictive warm salsa. Mmmmm.... this is an auspicious start. The food options range from expected staples - chimichangas, enchiladas, fajitas - to more latin american fare and quite a few seafood options. For me, the litmus test is always the chimichanga, which is what both the Reverend and I ordered. Mayday got the shrimp stuffed with crabmeat and our Champion (he did very well in his meet) ordered the stuffed lobster. To a dish, everything was excellent. The chimichangas were NOT coated in queso or some other sauce, the meat was well flavored and tender, and the burrito was grilled, not deep fried. Both seafood dishes were happily devoured and declared "amazing, Mom". Dessert was a deep fried burrito with cream cheese inside served with vanilla ice cream and a slice of tres leches cake, both of which were also quite yum. We were there until almost closing time, yet we never felt rushed or unwelcome. It was an excellent way to end a competitive day, and we are looking forward to visiting again the next time we are in town.

4.5 stars! Chips and salsa: 5 stars. The salsa was so yummy and different bc it's served warm! I loved it with the thin crisp Tortilla chips, also warm. Yuca with chicharrones: 3 stars. Nice crisp yuca, powdery and chewy center. The chicharrones were meaty pork, I was hoping for more fat or skin - and they were covered in a tomato sauce. I admit I like deep fries crispy pieces of pork. But maybe this is what some people prefer. Sopa de gallina. 4.5 stars Loved the fresh veggies and savory broth. Whole chicken breast and a quarter corn cob included. Beef quesadilla. 4.5 stars. Very tasty served with guac and sour cream. My only preference would be that the meat had a tinge of pink. Customer service:5 stars. Very friendly and attentive. Ambience 4 stars. I really like the white table Cloths and formality. Other great Latino food places are not formal enough even though they have great food. This place could be a place to take a date or celebrate a birthday. You actually want to sit a while and enjoy a long meal. Very pleasantly surprised by this place. It is still the grand opening but is excellent thus far. We were greeted Warmly when we walked in on a Thursday at 6 pm there were two other groups there.

Our favorite part of the meal by far was the margaritas. We ordered a pitcher, which was a little pricey but oh so good. Blended to perfection - no large chucks of ice with a good dose of flavor and tequila. Our server made us a mix of strawberry and peach - yummy. He even added a small shot of extra tequila in our glasses which started our experience on a great note. The food was good too. I like the warm salsa and chips. Ordered the Marsitas de Puerco recommended in other reviews and was not disappointed.

The food is really great here and the service is wonderful. We have had pick up a number of times. The shrimp and ribs are good. The chimichangas and tacos are tasty. Steak can be a bit overcooked, so I would suggest ordering medium cooked. Overall, not a bad spot.

Awesome!!!!!! Some of the best Tex-Mex and Latin American food in the area. The food is packed with flavor and very fresh. Its very hard to find a great Tex-Mex/Latin restaurant but this place is amazing. We came one night and were so impressed that we came back the next day. We'll be repeat customers. The owner is extremely friendly and nice. The place is clean and well kept. The bistec cubano and the fajitas are delicious. I really hope this place succeeds I typically don't post reviews but im impressed with Don Jorges

Great food. Clean restaurant. Great service. We were visiting the area and used Yelp to find a close restaurant. We had the beef fajitas and the seafood chimichanga. Excellent! I grew up with Mexican food and this was some of the best I've ever had. We highly recommend this restaurant!

  • Karlyn K.

Food here was good. It did bring out the tex mex feel. We had an assortment of fajitas, nachos, and enchiladas. If in the area, we'd go again. I recommend them.

This restaurant was fine but nothing to really get too excited about. My husband got chicken enchiladas and I got polla asada. I had a nice time there and we had good service and the atmosphere was nice but the food was just not very memorable. My chicken was very dry and didn't have much flavor. I don't think we will go back.

I still love the food at this place and the owner is the nicest guy and knows how to treat his customers. But his wife is probably one of the rudest people I have ever met. She refused to come back to our table halfway through the meal and made it a point of ignoring us as much as possible and we were the only customers in the restaurant. The other employee did what she could to do damage control and for that I am grateful but the woman's attitude makes it hard to want to return to the restaurant.

3.5 stars. Wide selection of dishes on the menu. The restaurant has an interesting devour and was relatively empty around 7pm on a Sunday night. The staff was friendly and warm. Their chips are nothing special but the warm salsa is interesting. We got chicken enchiladas and fajitas and both were very good. I would go again!

Recently moved to the area and have been looking for a good mexican restaurant. Decided to try don Jorge and man was I surprised!! It's Def not your average hole in the wall. It was actually pretty fancy. I was very impressed by the white table clothes. The restaurant was very clean and neat. The owner was very nice and talkative. I was welcomed in right away. The chips and salsa were so great! I had enchiladas of course and they were amazing as well. So glad it's so close to home. My new favorite.

  • Faith M.

Great food with lots of good South American and Mexican dishes. I really liked the chicken enchiladas. I did not like the guacamole - too much onion & not enough lime & cilantro. The atmosphere is really nice & casual dress. It's a must try! Ask to try the 3 different sauces.

  • Sandra L.

This is a very nice restaurant located in Olde Towne Gaithersburg, inside is bigger than most Mexican restaurants and the decor is really nice. Now the food to me was excellent. I am Mexican so I'm very picky about Mexican food but this place nailed it. It's really hard to find almost perfect tres leche cakes and theirs it's just that. The horchata was the best I've tried and so we're the enchiladas. The service was also excellent, our server was not intrudingly friendly but just knew what to do and when. So far, five stars. Have to go when they are really busy and see if they keep up the good work then too.

I have now been here five times and every dish has been excellent. Margaritas - excellent. Chicken Quesadilla - excellent Beef Nachos .-excellent Cheviche - excellent. Chiles Rellenoes - only place in the area that uses real Mexican style cheese - excellent Mariscos Santalvr -excellent Lengua a la Portuguesco- beef tongue on red wine -excellent Masitas De Puerco- Cuban style pork - excellent Tacos Beef or chicken excellent. This is a very upscale place for the price. The service has always been excellent. I'm from the Southwest and would say this id the best Latin food I have had in the 40 years I have lived in Gaithersburg

I'm glad I came here from all the good reviews, but it is average Mexican food in my book, with a couple bonuses. Maybe they'd be a 3.5, but there were a couple things that keep me from going higher. I stopped in and ordered the pupusa mixta and a beef chimichanga. The chips and salsa were ok. The warm salsa was different and had interesting flavor, but nothing that would bring me back. The pupusa was pretty good served with the classic cabbage "slaw". My biggest disappointment was in the chimichanga. It might be bad for you, but I want that bad boy deep fried crispy golden brown. It came out with sear marks where they put it on a flattop with no oil- that what Taco Bell does with their grilled burritos. That aside, the beef filling was great, probably the best part of the experience. I will go back to try the tacos and more traditional food, and hopefully find what everyone is raving about.

Love this place! You are warmly greeted when entering. They start you out with complimentary warm thin chips that are fantastic. They are served with a warm salsa that is addicting. I am hooked on the chicken enchiladas. I have also tried a fresh fish entree and it was wonderful. Prices for lunch were a little high to visit often. Dinner prices right on par. This is now our go to mexican restaurant for dinner.

  • Chester D.

Everything we got was great. Trio fajitas was excellent. The salsa is like a tomato soup mixed with a salsa which sounds weird but it's delicious. Margaritas were a bit sweet for my taste but everyone else liked them. We were the only people in the restaurant. The hot sauces were very good. The orange habanero sauce was super spicy and the green tomatillo salsa was perfect.

This is what ChiChis would be like if still around and smaller. Decent, but I'm probably not going to go there again.

Really great dinner. Feel guilty I missed this place since it opened many memories months ago. Get here now so they don't go away. All three of us had dinners we would recommend; chicken enchiladas, chicken tacos, and a special chicken mole. We split a good pitcher of margaritas. And the chips (the really good thin kind) and salsa were great. Seriously...make you're way here. A step up over the usual tex mex.

It's nice to have a new place in Old Town Gaithersburg that is good! Honestly, I am always scared to try a new place here because the majority of the time it is not good. The food here was very good! Absolutely everything we tasted was great. The service was friendly and attentive. The only complaint I had was that the restaurant was cold and the bathrooms were even colder. Overall, good food and good service. I'm glad to see a good restaurant on this side of town! We will be back for sure.

Heard that this was a recently opened restaurant, so we were eager to give it a test run. We checked it out on a Friday evening and was the place was pretty empty (just one occupied table with a party of two) - which threw up the "uh-oh" radar, but we pressed forward. There was plenty of parking and it was located across from some train tracks - so look forward to the trains passing through. The interior was pleasant and the service was good. Plus, the manager came by to check on our group after we were seated and throughout the meal. Always adds to the atmosphere. I had assumed that his was a Mexican restaurant driving by, but in fact, they were a Tex-Mex and Latin American place, so we were looking forward to exploring new tastes. We skipped the appetizers on this visit and dived straight into the entrees - trying the Seafood Soup (goodies in a white wine sauce with Spanish herbs), beef enchiladas, Mariscos Saltado (shrimp and scallops in a red Peruvian sauce), and Masitas De Puerco (Cuban styled pork with Criolle sauce). The dishes took some time to come out (downer), but (for now) I'll chalk it up to growing pains. We enjoyed all the dishes and could not decide which dish was best - everything was tasty and we were pleased that we were the beneficiaries of some pretty good food and individualized service. I'd start this off with 4 stars and hope that the service and consistency of food holds up over time and speed is improved.

We wanted Latin food for Cinco de Mayo but didn't want to go to a loud corporate chain for mediocre food. The staff was wonderful, the margaritas were good, and the food was fantastic. We started with queso fundido with chicken, which also had mushrooms, onions, and peppers. It was great. We also had guacamole which was fresh and delicious. For entrees, we ordered the pan fried trout--which came with a lovely sauce, delicious rice, and aside salad--and the Ropa Mariscos--which came with rice and beans. It was all fantastic. Our waitress was attentive and quick and the manager checked to make sure everything was good. All in all, it was one of the best places I've been in the area.

  • Jenny B.

This place is outstanding! The salsa is delicious. I've been here several times and have not been disappointed yet. Always leave full and happy. I don't have a favorite yet as I like roaming the menu. You definitely need to get some margaritas they are the best in town.
