Very disappointed in Mr Bills . I had the fish and chips $8.50 for three small pieces of fish and had no flavor I could have been blind folded and not been able to tell you what I was eating absolutely no flavor. Ask for the wifi password and it was 20 characters long why so protected. My server was very friendly and she is why I give two stars.

My wife and I love Mr. Bills's Terrace Inn. Awesome crabs! We have been here quite a bit and have never gotten a bad crab. Prices are very reasonable. If you're looking for fru-fru and fancy, keep on looking'! But if you're looking for good food at good prices in a fun atmosphere, then Mr. Bill's is your place. The staff is very friendly and Mr. Steve tells the greatest stories! Lots of photos of local celebs.

Great jumbo crab and soft shell crab sandwich. Downside is it's kind of expensive.... But very fun and delicious :)

Mr. Bill runs a tight ship! The crabs are always amazing. Their spice blend isnt the standard Old Bay mix, but don't let that scare you. Their house blend is better than anything out of a can. Do your self a favor and eat here.

Still the best crabs around!! Meaty and big and juicy. The old bay seasoning is in house made and is delishh with absolutely everything. The sundae after all the salty goodness is simple yet delishhh as well. Service is awesome and always knows whats best =) as always... will continue to enjoy the best crabs here =)

Nice local crab spot with friendly service and relaxed atmosphere. Best crabs in town!

Bill's is the best place to get crabs in the Baltimore area. The interior is comparable to a bingo hall. However, the crabs are large and seasoned to perfection. It is a bit pricey but worth it if you want quality crabs.

Amazing!!!! Never had a crab experience like this before!! So tasty and so much! Great owner, bought us drinks and was super friendly. I'd fly back from Iowa just to eat here again!

Don't let the inside appearance fool you. Went here for a happy hour once with one of my college buddies who works at Lockheed, and they have some damn good wings and appetizers for a crabhouse. Haven't been back to check out the crabs, but Mr. Bill's has a huge bar area and reasonable prices for happy hour.

I will give this place 3.5 stars because they didn't have female crabs because of the silly law in MD saying that you cant catch or eat female blue crabs. Their seasoning was very good for the crabs and the crabs itself were good. The shrimp wasn't very good and their service was horrible and we waited forever for everything. All in all I guess if your this far north in MD and want some blue crabs, this is a good place to go.

First, I would like to say is that this wasn't my first time going to Mr. Bills. All my other experiences were great. This time I'm not sure it was because of the season. The crabs weren't so go great the last time

Meaty, Juicy and plump... I'm not talking about me, I'm talking about the crabs at Bill's Terrace. I came here with a group of friends to celebrate a birthday. I mostly came for the crabs, so I didn't try anything else. I ended up ordering the 75.00 large crabs. They were sooooo tasty! Our waitress Tina was pretty awesome. She got everyones order in a timely fashion and she was uber friendly. One thing I will say though, I understand that there is money to be made in crabs but...maybe there should be a bushel option for large groups. Having said that, I'd visit again.

While the food was OK (nothing more than that) this was the worst service I have truly ever had. And they automatically add gratuity so I over paid for service I didn't receive. They will never get another penny of my hard earned money.

Came here with a group of 10 old friends in town for a wedding. We had originally planned to hit Captain James in Baltimore, but the lure of Bill's enticed us to drive out. Everything people have said about the freshness and the quality are true, but the prices were much higher than at other locations. It's intimidating to give this place a 3 especially when some good friends, who I know are extreme foodies, have given it a 4 or 5, but I'd much prefer paying less and sitting directly on the water at Captain James.

I have been coming to this gem for a few years, and promised Bill I would review last time I was in. (There is a Mr Bill, his pic is on the wall). I am serious that all crabs taste the same when doused in old bay, but Bill's does a great job in not over steaming the grab. They always are juicy. That is key. Second, they bring your drinks in pitchers, which is much appreciated when your cracking salty bits of heaven. Finally it is what a crab house should be, dated, nostalgic and wonderful. One of my favorite crab houses in Baltimore.

So, after many years of people telling me I absolutely HAD to come here because the crabs are amazing I finally gave Mr. Bills a try. This review might be slightly long but I'm breaking it down into several areas of critique: Crabs - We ordered $75 Crabs, the largest they had, and they were hot, fresh, and nice size. In my opinion what makes crabs amazing is the seasoning and in my opinion this seasoning is HORRID! I've read all the reviews about how it's Old Bay... but it's NOT!!! The seasoning has nutmeg in it and is much coarser than Old Bay. The nutmeg for some might be a welcome addition, my son loved it, but I absolutely hated it. It pretty much ruined the crabs for me which were tasty and sweat on the inside but I just couldn't get past the nutmeg. Also, not all the crabs were cooked at the same doneness... so some were slightly overcooked. Crab Dip - tasty and had plenty of chips and pita bread for dipping. Made more with claw and inside than with backfin but good. Cream of Crab Soup - While this had lots of flavor and I didn't need to add any seasoning to it this was by far the shelliest crab soup I've EVER had!!! My hubby and son wouldn't eat it. (as an aside they also have this 1/2 MD crab 1/2 Cream of Crab combo which was also very tasty but also very shelly) Oysters - Nice size but shucked poorly as they were very gritty and not chilled enough. Crab Cake and Fluff - these were nice size and tasty but very heavy in the mustard. My husband who doesn't eat crabs got the crab cake. He actually hates mustard so it was a sad day for him as he could barely eat the crab cake and left almost all of it. My son however LOVED the crab cake and fluff. Onion Rings WERE AWESOME!!!! Service - The service was okay. She was busy as it seemed like there were only 3 waitresses for the entire place so it wasn't great but it was decent enough. Steve the owner was working the hostess stand and was very pleasant and attentive. We ordered a salad that actually never showed up but everything else came out hot and within a reasonable amount of time. My biggest complaint is that there is NO FREE REFILLS on ANY drinks and the waitress did not tell us this, nor did the menu mention this. Not only are the soda's not free refills but neither is the ice tea!!! WHAT?! We drink A LOT and between my family of 5 got 3 pitchers of soda and 1.5 pitchers of ice tea... we spent $35 on non-alcoholic drinks. That's just WRONG!!!! All in all if you like the taste of their seasoning and crab cakes and don't mind spending a fortune for non alcoholic drinks you will probably be very happy going here. I on the other hand will just go to Costas Inn instead!

My husband and I are regulars at Mr Bills. As a crab eater since I was in a high chair, I can tell you that the crabs here are really the very vest in town. What I did not realize, however, was that the CRABCAKE is it die for! I generally don't order crabcakes out because i am always disappointed. I make the best crabcake myself, but I have to say, this tops mine! Plus, I would stand it against those slimy ones at Pappas anytime. The crabcake at Mr Bills is6-8 ounces of pure bliss! Big lumps of back fin with only enough other ingredients to hold it together. Delicate seasoning and broiled to perfection. So while Mr Bills is known for steamed crabs, go check out the crabcakes. You will not be sorry.

Crabs were awesome! I can't wait to go back! I can't figure out the seasoning on these crabs, but it's definitely not just Old Bay Seasoning.

crabs were hot, fresh, & absolutely delicious. it was my first time at bill's and these were some of the best crabs i've ever had. i was a big fan of the seasoning they use to coat their crabs. like all good crab houses the decor is old and a little divey, but i don't mind it at all as long as the food is good. also tasted the cream of crab soup, crab pretzel, and soft crab- all of which were very good. my only complaint was that there were no free refills on fountain soda. the server failed to mention it as she continuously kept refilling our drinks. i thought it was a little shady that she didn't at least mention it but i guess its my fault for not double checking first. i've never had a crab house (or any restaurant for that matter) not offer free refills on soda which seemed a little tacky. oh well, won't make that mistake again. also, they add 15% gratuity on all checks.

Mallets up! Seven years of an allergy preventing my eating crabs. More than happy to get my hands dirty at Mr Bills Terrace Inn. Yup! The best crabs ever and evidently still consistent in quality as well as taste. Why, you ask? The owner, Steve, recognizes the importance of every customer's dining experience. Fresh catches. Only steamed to order. Thank you Mr Bills Terrace Inn. Thank you, Steve, and long-time waitress, Tina! Definitely worth my seven year wait...

Great place to great crabs in Baltimore. My favorite place is Obrycki's in the city but this place rivals Obrycki's, and now I can't decide which one's my favorite! Bill greeted us at the door and we got seated right away. We ordered some hush puppies which were pretty good, served with this honey mustard sauce, and two dozen jumbo crabs. The crabs come out piping hot (as they should) and they are filled with juicy, sweet white crab meat. It's seasoned with this dry, garlicky, salty, slightly old bay-ish seasoning. Great place to get crabs although it's a bit of a drive outside the city. Make sure you wear an old T-shirt, as pieces of crab and seasoning fly everywhere in this place!! And you smell like crabs when you leave :)

so, if someone asks "where should i go for crabs" as far as sit down Baltimore experience this is it. I have even shipped there spice blend to San Fran when Baltimore won the Super Bowl; i guess I have a soft heart. go early no res at the spot....

(speaking to inner self) I almost hate to review Mr. Bills... OK I'll stop... No I must honor this place with a great review.. No it will turn into a tourist trap and lose its charm... OK... All that read this must promise NOT to ruin this place by busing in hoards from all over the eastern seaboard to get in on the magic that is Mr Bills!!!!! You know who has been here before and are real patrons as we don't call it Bill's Terrace Inn and once you've been there a few times you'll know why! I have been coming here to get crabs and beer since I was able to prove I was 21 (hehe) and just getting crabs for as long as I can remember. You never leave here hungry and these are the BEST crabs in Baltimore. If you want fancy decor and plush seats and singing wait staff and a huge variety on the menu.. go eat at Joe's Crab Shack!!! If you want real steamed crabs fresh from the bay a cold pitcher of beer and a mallet to crack'em with and some great locals to eat with... THEN MR. BILL'S is the place to come!!!

Came here a couple weeks ago based on the recent Baltimore magazine profile on crab houses. I am a little ambivalent about steamed crabs. Taste great when you get the meat. But the meat has to be there in the first place. Life sucks when you grapple with a crab and just get crumbs. Ordered some jalapeno poppers. Tasty indeed. The only place I've noticed that serves cream cheese and cheddar cheese varieties. Maybe TGIF does it also, I can't remember. Anyway, cream cheese all the way. They also serve salsa with it. That's how it should be done. Also had their bisque. Not really bisque in the classic French sense but it was reasonably tasty but a touch bit disappointed because I wanted bisque and not soup. I'll live. Had some sodas, served in an individual sized mini pitcher (about 2.5 glasses worth). No free refills though. Ordered the 75s seasoned with an Old Bay-based mix. I must say these crabs were quite tasty and hefty. I had four and that was enough for me. The meat was plenty and accessible with mallet and plastic machete. Also no funky ammonia smell or essence. Parking was ample. We went on a weeknight and there was no wait. The decor is a bit dated and worn but if you were expecting French Laundry, you've gotta stop sniffing glue. I am not a crabhouse guru having only been to 4-5 over the past few years. But this place easily has the best crabs when it comes to amount of meat and taste without any undesired "funk". Finally, the waitstaff was quite friendly. Yeah it was a slower weeknight. From what I have heard, weekends can be quite hectic with a long wait. If crabs ever cross my mind again, I would absolutely try this place again.

This place is what every crab joint should be like. Lots of delicious crab meat caked in Old Bay, pitchers of beer. It's the greatest. My friends and I drove up from DC to get some crabs, and everyone said this was the best shop around. They were right.

Best crabs you can get in the wonderful state of MD. I grew up in MD and have been to more Crabhouses than I can remember; Mr. Bill's Terrace Inn trumps them all. We started with the steamed Jumbo Shrimp app with onions and they were delicious, highly recommended. We also had an order of the Clams Casino which were also very good. Then we got down to business and ordered a dozen of their 58s. For your crab noobs, most good crabhouses quote their crabs by how much they cost for a dozen (not by small, medium, large, and jumbo). The 58s were large, delicious, and steamed fresh to order (they took 25min to come out, which is how you know theyre freshly steamed, plus they didnt smell like ammonia). when I left I asked if I could get a pound of their house seasoning to go.... usually they charge for it ($10 for 2lbs i think) but they gave it to me for free. Awesome! note: the wait can be up to two hours here so plan accordingly

This place is AMAZING! While shopping and drinking around Camden Yards and the Inner Harbor we asked local bartenders and servers where to go for the best crab. We were told we had to make the short drive to Bill's...and was it ever worth it. The atmosphere is absolutely old school...from the brown paper on the tables, to the buckets next to the tables, to the staff (including Bill himself). The crab was awesome, the seasoning was perfect, and the beer was never empty.

Nine of us went to Bill's for crabs last week. None of us had ever been there before but all had heard good things. Really some mixed feelings about it. Physically, it's a real crabhouse, prettty dumpy. But that's ok, you are there for crabs. Started with some Maryland crab soup. Pretty average and almost $6 for a cup. One of the ladies had a miserable turkey sandwich, which was way overpriced, too. As for eating crabs, first thing I noticed was that the tables were set with heavy duty plastic knives for the crabs. BUT, I have never, ever been anywhere where they re-use plastic knives. Some of them were so worn that the blades were half gone. They were scarred and greasey and gross. Next time, if there would be a next time, I would take my own small knife. Oh yes, the crabs...gotta say, I loved the seasoning. It is not just Old Bay. They have their own blend and there is garlic in it which is a little different. We had 4 dozen $58's, the biggest they had that night but they weren't real big and we all noticed that the sizes were inconsistant. Not only that but some were "light" and a couple were just bad. I mean, overall they were ok but none of us thought they were the best we ever had. Generally, the crabs are pretty good and everything else seems overpriced, even the pitchers of beer. We dropped over $400 and it didn't seem like a good deal to any of us. Next time I will buy their crab seasoning (which they do sell) and take it home and steam my own crabs.

Oh, Holy Mother of God and Crabs. THIS is what crabs are about. It is THE ideal place, a real crabhouse, with the best crabs I have ever had, excellent service, beer, music. I don't even need to mess with any special language or flowery verse. Nah. Just GO there. If you are anywhere within day's drive distance, this is a place I'd recommend. Please, this is not a knife and fork place. This is a real crabhouse, with real food, real people, real crab and really...can I curse? I'd use the "f" word here..."-ing" good crabs. I had the soft shell crab sandwich and for a mere $11.00, I had two whole soft shelled dudes on some kick-butt white bread with mayo, tomato and lettuce. My father, my husband and I ordered 2 dozen 58's. The kids (ages 4 and nearly 7, from southern California) became the claw crackers and they, by the end of the night, were old Baltimore kids The seasoning was a bit different from my usual Old Bay type, but I was more than happily surprised. This is an excellent dry seasoning, and while sure, reminiscent of Old Bay, different and unique and just Divine ;) Wow. I wanted my kids and my husband to experience Maryland, crabs, Baltimore. I wanted them to feel it and get the energy of the culture that is specific to that region (as we are accustomed to the mood and culture of our area) and I think this homey, wonderful, delicious and fun place was a great way to give them a hint of my childhood and of my parents' childhood. I will suggest this place to everyone that loves real crabs, beer, music and friends. I'm afraid if I lived out there, I'd be there weekly, helping Mr. Bill support himself and his family. Well, hell, who cares. He'd be supporting my crab habit. Sounds like a more than fair trade to me.

We scrambled here after the National Aquarium and to think we wouldn't have a problem getting a table here at restaurant opening time. OMG there were 3 tables left, good thing! We ordered a dozen of the $58 Crabs. Too bad they didn't have the super jumbo ones. All around us, people were smacking, pounding, cracking away. We just stared and drooled while we waited for our tray. My mum got a side salad w/super sour vinagrette and an Orange Roughy dish w/steamed beans. She didn't want to deal with the crabby mess, so she loved her fish dish. I love how they put two whole rolls of paper towels for messy people like me on the table. They provide a whole pitcher of water w/super sweet iced tea. Mix them up and you got a perfect hits-the-spot-ahhh tea when you're done with one crab. My dad opted for a Yuengling, though. I made a mess, good thing they gave me a plastic bib. No one was sitting next to me, so I had fun hammering all the pieces. The best is when you get a huge chunk with one hit. The knife was handy also, even though my dad was using a spare claw to get to the goods. I've been to Jimmy's and Cantler's Inn, and I think this place has the best salt seasoning. My 'rents were licking their fingers and we coated everything w/that special spicy salt seasoning. The décor was great, with tv's all around and a bar atmosphere. I had heartburn and mega thirst afterwards, but it was all worth it.

I've been going to Bills for about a decade and the crabs have always been excellent, if perhaps a little pricey. Aside from snobbish ideas about the decor, I have always found this to be the go-to place for crabs.... but not this time. My first visit this year lasted about 3 minutes. We arrived at 6:30PM last thursday night. As I walked in toward the bar, I smelled an odour of what smelled like a combination of sewage and bilge water (if you've ever been on a boat) Then as I inquired about a table, I began to look around and it just seemed a lot more run-down than in years' past, further, it just didn't look very clean. I guess my point is, if one can overlook these problems just to have great crabs, than more power to you, but as for me, I'm done with this place. I'm sorry to have written this review.

Finished eating an hour ago and I'm still so stuffed I can barely move. *heavy, lazy groan* I came with my mom, aunt, and 3 cousins. I ordered the cream of crab to start and it was the most flavorful bowl of cream of crab I've ever tasted. My mom ordered the Maryland crab soup but I've had better. My cousins ordered a pretzel imperial which we ALL loved. We also split a crab dip-- PERFECTION. To top it off we ordered a dozen and a half crabs. To my dismay, I was only able to eat 4 before my stomach screamed out, "STOP!" Minus one star for the mediocre service. We had to wave our waitress over a few times to add an order and to refill our pitchers. The lady who brought out our food did not even try to fake a smile. She truly looked like she hated life. She threw our food down onto the table with a frown and rolled her eyes at us when we had to correct an order.

YUMMY crabs. Expensive, though. I do have to say, though, that Schultz's seafood down the road has better tasting crabs though. Sorry, Bill!

When I arrived at Bill's, I thought to myself, "We're eating HERE??" The outside of the restaurant was less than impressive, but I quickly learned this place doesn't mess around. All the cash they saved on the facade, they spent on a phenomenal crab procurer. My friend told us that they don't want to attract attention because it is one of the last well-kept secrets in Maryland. As I walked in, I saw a shirt on the wall that read, "I got crabs at Bill's." I knew I was in the right place. The wait for a table in this tiny little restaurant was 45 minutes to an hour, so we made our way to their adjacent bar, which was about the same size as the dining room. And it was PACKED. We miraculously grabbed a table and four stools, as one of us went to the bar and got some "Gin Marys." Here, they rim your Gin Mary with Old Bay Seasoning, which was the perfect compliment to the spicy, alcoholic, tomato elixir. After my first one, I don't remember how many more I had, because they mix drinks like you would at a funeral. I drank until I couldn't feel feelings and then I think I played a game of pool... I think. When we got seated, I noticed a couple things: Rolls of paper towels (a sign of a good seafood place, for all in the know), NO CRAB TOOLS (another good sign), and brown paper on the table (the final sign that I was in the realm genuine of crab folk). When we ordered, the waitress asked us what size crabs we wanted, so we went big. Keep in mind, these are Maryland Blues, so they aren't known for being particularly large. My friend also ordered a cup of the seafood bisque, which had lobster, clams, and crab... It was like licking an angel in her special place--HEAVENLY. The crabs arrived on two trays, which instead of being placed on the table, were rather dumped on the table. It was awesome! They steam their crab in Old Bay Seasoning, and the size of the crabs shocked me. They were much larger than I had ever seen. Meaty, flavorful, and the spice was perfect. Everyone ate in complete silence, with the occasional "Ooooooh man, that's good." When it was over, I think a part of my soul was left in that restaurant. I was licking my fingers the whole way home. I've never experienced crab like I did that day, and all other experiences I've had since have NOT been able to live up to that night at Bill's. I'm proud to say, "Bill gave me crabs; and my life will never be the same." ;) I will, without any doubt, return; both to reclaim that little part of my soul that was left behind as well as gorge myself on Gin Marys and Old Bay Blues.

Bill's is perfect! It's like a dive sports bar in the front and a mom and pop diner in the back. I mean, this place seems like a step above my high school cafeteria in decor. HOWEVER, the crabs are thebomb(dot)com. We ordered the jumbo 75s, which were succulent, fresh, covered in at least a centimeter of Old Bay and salt, and piping hot for most of the seating. You could tell the walls and floor have witnessed decades of crab shelling. It is clean, mind you, but there is evidence of use. I loved it. The waitresses and host (Bill, I think) are super chilled, to the point of almost bad service. I mean, they barely talk and they sort of take their time. But, they are actually very friendly, very honest (we asked about something on the menu and the waitress basically said, "You don't want that. It's canned."), really helpful (our waitress taught us how to properly shell our crabs), and pretty efficient (in a Sourthern sort of way). We had a great time at Bill's, which seems to draw a really homey relaxed clientele of locals and regulars. Note: The "butter" they serve is not butter, so don't bother asking. No bibs here, so don't wear your favorite shirt.

Mr. Bill's is my favorite place for crabs. Amazing crabs, friendly staff who do a very good job, and traditional crab house ambience. No snobs here, so if you want a hoity-toity place, go somewhere else. This is everything a crab place should be. Corn was also delicious. The staff is very attentive, likeable, and just nice folks.

There is only one word I need to describe my meal experience at Bills; AMAZING! The place is easily passable and probably is passed a lot by many without a second thought. FOOLS. Once inside Bills you see tables topped with brown paper and people enjoy food without conversation, because it would ruin the meal. I was famished when I arrived and saddened when I was told I had to wait. Then a glorious tasty gin mary was placed in my hands and next thing I know I was at a table ordering. I ordered an unbelievable seafood chowder that rocked my world. I haven't been the same since. Then came the beautiful blue Maryland crab. They came and plopped those puppies right on top of the table and our job was just to enjoy. There are no plates, hammers, or little cracking tolls here. There are your hands, a butter knife, and a roll of paper towels. I was so beyond stuffed in the most glorious way as I left Bill's. Some day I shall return.

We've been many times to Bill's over the years. Since we were visiting from out of town (just moved from Balmer a year ago), I was hoping against hope that our crabs would be better than our last experience here, but was disappointed. Service was great since we arrived early and surprisingly, they weren't busy. Prices were high and the crabs uneven ... to be kind. It's great seeing Mr. Bill at the helm every time we go, but I have to say it will be my last trip to Bill's Terrace Inn. Funds are too precious to waste nowadays, so Ship's Café will get my business.

3.5 Stars in total maybe because my expectations were so high from other yelpers but I was a little let down. Yes, it is a very outdated, in-the-middle-of-nowhere crab place. Yes, the service wasn't all too great...she didn't write down our order & got one thing mixed up. Also, you have to have fresh cold beer/drinks with your crabs and the waitress seemed a little too overwhelmed with her tables; we asked for refills on beer/drinks several times before she got to it. But for the food: - Crab Cake Fluff - Crab Cake rolled in dough and deep fried, served hot and w/ mustard sauce (but you don't need it in my opinion). - North & South Crab Soup - for those that can never decide between 2 soups, it's MD Crab Soup & Cream of Crab in 1 soup - Soup was served warm (not hot) and the Cream of Crab did not taste too good (has a canned soup taste to it). The MD Crab Soup wasn't bad but it def would've been better if it were hot. - Fries - Crispy & served piping hot - Imperial Stuff Mushrooms - Served piping hot and piled high with cheese and big chunks of crab - By far my favorite appetizer we ordered. - Jumbo Crabs - $85 for a dozen...we peeled away more shell than meat in the crab...not satisfying at all. - XL Crabs - $75 for a dozen - Fresh meaty crabs...these were def what other yelpers were talking about. - Easy on the old bay seasoning next time...I love old bay, but I don't want to drink it with my crab.

Came here for a friend's birthday. Didn't know what to expect... It's in a kind of run-down looking area and the inside decor is very dated. But at the end of the day, none of that matters... this place has good crabs. We ordered the biggest crabs available (which were indeed pretty big and worth every penny). Everything tasted fresh (nothing is more disappointing than eating a crab that was obviously dead before cooking...if you ever had one, you know what I mean). Seasoning was spot on. The only miss here was the side dishes.... particularly the corn. It's definitely not fresh corn here.... It came straight from a can and into the tiny serving bowl. :( But overall, I enjoyed Mr. Bill's and would definitely come back. It now shares a spot with Cantler's in Annapolis as my favorite crab restaurants in the area.

I'm from Baltimore, and I don't need a restaurant to be all fancy for me to award five stars. Especially when I can show up somewhere in early March and get two bushels of large crabs that turn out as fantastic as the ones we had here earlier this month. SO. DELICIOUS. Bill's is quintessential Essex, but that's why you're there, right? The best crab houses come with the least frills. It may not be the most elegant spot, but they more than make up for that in colorful neon beer signs and small televisions throughout. We enjoyed our crabs on one of many flimsy tables that fill the restaurant. The beer was cold and the crabs were awesome. Meaty, sweet, perfect amount of seasoning. I thought about deducting a star for price, but it's March. MARCH. Good crabs are hard to come by this early in the season, so it was worth it. Well, actually, it would have been worth it no matter the price, because I didn't pay (what are parents for?). Whatever, just trust me. And when you go, make sure to wear your denim shirt and shorts.

The smell of Old Bay permeates the air, the sweetness hanging like the humid air in a tropical rainforest, enveloping the steaming hot piles of crab shoveled onto your table...grab your mallet, split a bucket of Natty Bo with a good friend and go to town on these puppies. Seriously, I stopped into Baltimore en route to Florida to visit my friend Foster and this is where he took me. The place looks like time forgot it from the outside, and like interior decorators forgot it from the inside, but that's part of the charm of this unassuming crab joint. I left Bill's with a smile on my face, belly full of crabs, Old Bay in my lungs and a song in my heart.

Whenever I get the chance to go to someplace "old school" a.k.a. "not totally gentrified" I jump at the chance. This place was a refreshing change from the normal scene where everyone looks and acts the same and the food and beer are way too expensive. Bill's Terrace Inn is laid back -the waitresses are totally Essex and totally friendly. The crabs took a little while to get to us but boy were they yummy (and HOT) when they arrived. The beer pitchers were a little slow in the refill department too, but take that with a grain of salt as my dining partner and I tend to throw them back at a little faster pace than the average bal-ti-moron. I really liked how the room was open and it was more of a community event rather than the impersonal environment some restaurants have. The brown paper on the tables and the wooden paper towel holders and mallets made me smile. As you might expect the crabs are a little pricey, but no more than you might expect anywhere else. I must admit I felt guilty eating them, with the shortage and all, but they were totally worth it. We got a dozen and they were heavy and sweet. If you have been to G&M and like/ agree with my review of that location, then you will totally love Bill's. I would go there again in a heartbeat!!

Had a great meal that included a small pitcher of Blue Moon, steamed shrimp w/ onions, and most importantly, a half dozen of steamed blue crab. Our waitress was great. She suggested getting half orders of the shrimp and the crab. We opted for the largest crabs they had available at 6 for $40. The crab was fantastic. Very fresh, meaty, and seasoning that was just about right. We kept it simple and didn't use any butter or garlic. It can get a little dangerous with, and both me and my girlfriend left with some small cuts on our hands as we ravished though the crabs with our bare hands.

After years of searching for the right crabhouse. This is my best kept restaurant secret. I love to go to mr. Bills for fat &heavy crabs. They have consistently served heavy crabs that don't make you feel like you have been cheated. I have found a light crab and they promptly replaced it with nice one. Other than crabs, we found steamed clams, buffalo wings and the soups to be excellent. Don't pretend to the waitress that you know Mr. Bill cause that's not the owner's name. But you'll get good crabs anyway. Just that crabs most likely are not from Maryland.

The best crabs around hands down!!! I send people up there all the time. They might be a little pricey but worth every penny! What is the use in getting crabs from somewhere else for a little less $, but are shitty?! You def get what you pay for.. Perfectly seasoned monsters!! And you can always find the owner there too. Good to know that the place is well managed at all times!

I think I was eating crabs before I could hold my head up and aside from having crabs at home with family and friends this is my favorite place. Set in Essex-- lets just say it's a working class neighborhood that went through a post-industrial decline-- it is a no frills, neighborhood crab house. The customers are locals, watermen, yuppies from the burbs, out-of-towners who were somehow lucky enough to get to this place and others you would probably see in some John Water's film. Seasoned well, fat and heavy, I've never had crabs here that were not worth the money. Go in the early fall when they are fattened up for the winter, but honestly the only place I know to get good crabs all year round. Paired with Natty'Bo = one of the best food experiences you will ever have.

This place is not the best looking in the world but the crabs are what you come here for. Always get the largest available (despite what your asian parents have told you), June-Sept are peak blue crab in MD; otherwise they import from the Gulf, which is hit or miss. In peak season the blue crabs are hauntingly beautiful...so much so you'll smell like crab and dream of crabs for days to come. Be wary of major sporting events...b/c this place will be uber packed. Summer cannot come soon enough.
