I love this homey little place. If you are in Emmittsburg (for some strange reason) and you are hungry, I would make my way to The Palms ASAP They have a small dinning area, but it fits more than you would think...the wait staff are super friendly, and you can always count on this place for some down home comfort food. This place is not fine dinning, but it does the trick (especially if you are nursing a hangover.) They have a small bar on the opposite side of the dinning room which is quaint and well stocked:) Lots of crab-themed foods (its maryland, people) whwich are always delicious....2 different kinds of crab soup-both are yumm! Get the corn fritters! Vegetarian friendly.
My family stopped in here to eat last weekend while we were busy getting the house ready for the holidays and we had to eat - I refused to give in to the child whining about wanting chicken nuggets again. Again. We were going to have a real sit-down dinner for some real food, dagnabbit (does anyone say that anymore? hmmm, did anyone ever say that?). The major positives to the Palms are that: what they do well they do very well, they are a good value, and the folks who work there are wonderfully friendly and attentive. The atmosphere is very small-town casual, and there is a warm and cozy bar in a room attached to the restaurant. My wife had the crab cakes and they were indeed terrific - all meat as well. I had some of their specials, which included a cup of delicious lobster bisque soup (wish I had gotten the bowl!) and my entree was their stuffed shrimp (wish I had also ordered the crab cakes). And my son got the pizza. The pizza was really very disappointing. It was somewhere less than supermarket freezer pizza like Tombstone and hovered near elementary school cafeteria pizza. He had one bite, would not eat more. He asked me to try and I had a bite and saw what he meant, but we took the rest and boxed it to go - but not sure why, as it was thrown out. Then we had deserts - oh my, deserts are definitely a highlight here. And you do have to watch the specials board, they run out of the popular selections. The Red Velvet Cake and the Chocolate Cake with PB Icing was gone sometime after we saw the specials board and before we ordered desert (maybe one should order desert before it is time to eat it?). I believe they pretty much either make or locally order their deserts. So I got the Raspberry Chocolate Cheesecake and my wife had something I honestly cannot remember but they were both awesome. I vaguely remembered eating here before a couple of years prior, and the one thing I remembered form that meal was their 3 berry pie. A good place to eat in the area, and a good value. I am sure I will eat there again, but like me you should stick to what they do well. And I hear that does include breakfast, but I have not tried that there yet.
The Palms is not fancy...but its good. Prices are reasonsable, atmosphere is homey, and people are warm and considerate. The large white board displays the specials of the day. They are ALWAYS a good choice. The table in front of the board is not a good choice, unless you're looking to meet people (because everyone will stand at your table to read the specials.)

Since fine dining in Gettysburg proper is unknown to me, had to drive 8 miles to Emmitsburg, MD for special dinner tonight. Special tonight is crab stuffed flounder (see photo) and very good, well prepared, moist though light seasoned. Note the fresh rosemary, thyme and miniature pepper garnish! Our server Scott states owner grows this wonderful garniture comes from gardens around restaurant. The tiny pepper, beware! This will put more than "a glow in your mouth" as Julia Child famously said. Good hot bread, Caesar salad very good, crab stuffed broiled mushrooms are worth trying. Wine prices fair though few choices. I've been here several times over past few years and this was best experience so far, Scott our server was not just friendly but quite professional and had great insight to menu choices. When in Gettysburg and you want a fine dinner, drive to Maryland.
This is the second year we held a company dinner here. Atmosphere and food were very good. The staff went above and beyond to make sure everyone was taken care of. I would highly recommend this restaurant for a quaint evening out or a large group.
If you're staying in Gettysburg, I highly recommend taking the short drive down to this wonderful spot. The food was absolutely great and the servers could not have been nicer. A very nice country dinner spot with a romantic fireplace. Try the cream of crab soup and the chicken florentine!

Love this place!!! Never had a bad experience!! When it first opened back up after being closed for about a year from a fire in one of the apartments upstairs, this place was bombarded with people wanting food and I know from hearing comments from others, there was quite a wait on food. I don't think they were staffed to handle such a response! However, they've proven that they are "back in the groove" and you get your money's worth here!!!
One of my favorite pizza places. We seldom get to come up here, but when we do come up to Emmitsburg, this is a MUST stop. They are truly unique & for those who gave Stavros a low rating - Pizza Hut awaits you down the street & maybe that's more your style. Like the people who couldn't wait to get to a Macdonald's when I was sent to Germany in the Army years ago, instead of trying something GOOD!!! The building where Stavros was, unfortunately had a fire last April, but they are planning to come back in the same location.
Pretty awesome Greek salad. Very fresh. Pizza is great, subs are great. Eat-in or take-out. Eat-in is funny because you get to watch people. Ms. Pac Man table game still works!

Stopped in for lunch. Had the crab dip and wings then had the crab sandwich. I was pleased with the food. It's bar food. Give it a shot. Looks like a bit of history here stopped in Jan 2012
Service was poor, food took over an hour to get. Food was good and atmosphere was good. Overall good prices for what you get.
Came here on a Monday night as a friend said you have to do "Wings and Lings". Apparently the oldest beer in America is something called Yeuengling. It's a light and smooth lager. Rather tasty. I'm from the west coast and am spoiled with so many micro breweries. I have to say that this was a nice beer. The beer went well with the wings. Which on Monday was super cheap. I think a basket of wings only cost like $5. Super tip here: get the old bay wings. These were so amazing! My friends, also from the west coast were loving these old bay seasoned wings that we all ended up ordering another basket each. All in all, a nice simple yet cool bar feel. The walls have patches from fire departments all across the country. The national fire academy is just down the road. I will be back soon! "Wings and Lings"

If we could have gave it less than one star we would have. First of all one of the most unfriendly and rudest experience we ever had at any restaurant. Not sure if this lady owned or managed the place but she could sure use a few classes in friendly customer service. We had at least 10 people in our group and all of them said they would never go back just because of the unfriendly service. Now onto the food. Most of us had the all u can eat crabs which weren't that great very mushy and watery. The crab soup should have been called watered down vegetable soup , along with that you get the not very fresh or big salad bar. Last but not least this place is like a big echo chamber. If you in for a nice quiet dinner forget about it
Heaps of delicious crabs, covered in fantastic tangy-salty spices. All you can eat! Deliciously messy and fun: event eating. The side dishes were mediocre, but satisfactory. Great environment, great crabs.
The last time I was at Rube's with a friend, we arrived to find that the restaurant was almost entirely empty. Only one or two tables were being used. But we were told the restaurant had absolutely no seating available for us. This was at the end of last summer, but we are both still angry about it. We have not been back this year and we don't plan on returning again. Obviously they didn't want our business, so we now take it elsewhere.

Our first visit. Friendly staff. Pulled pork, brisket, pit beef and burnt ends platter was Excellent! Baked beans, Cole slaw, Mac & cheese and corn bread were also Very good! 2 new Chubby's fans! We'll be back! Thanks for dinner!
Solid BBQ and one of the better options on the road between PA and VA. Atmosphere: It's a BBQ place so the point don't come here. Service: Very friendly staff helped navigate what was good and fresh that day. Food: Had the Burnt Ends, Slaw and Jalapeño Poppers. Burnt Ends were big, tender and tasty but missing the burnt - BBQ sauce was a good accompaniment. Slaw was a solid side with a decent blend of sweet/mayo with good texture. Jalapeño Poppers were solid but not a homemade delight. A solid 3 in the world of BBQ [Been to TX, KC, NC and Memphis] and worth the stop if you have a few minutes..... skip the fast food and have some BBQ.
After reading all the reviews on facebook and yelp I was absolutely dying to take my family of 5 to this restaurant. We live in Westminster so it was a little drive but I had very high expectations and was very excited to try. Plus my pregnancy craving is bbq, so I was very excited for some good bbq. I also am not normally one to review a restaurant without making several trips there first, but this was so horrifically disappointing. We arrive at Chubbys at about 12 pm today and we seat ourselves, it's very clear they are understaffed and we wait about 15 minutes for a waitress to come to our table to deliver menus and take our drink order. Though she was clearly frazzled by being understaffed and behind she was very kind and hospitable. We wait another 15 minutes before our drinks arrive and she takes our food order. Our food arrives about 30 minutes later. Heres the lo down on the food- I ordered the 1/2 lb burnt end platter with two sides of mac and cheese (1 for me and 1 to share with my 1 year old.) The mac and cheese was dry, no sauce, it looked and tasted more like buttered elbow noodles then anything, strangest mac and cheese ever, but my son did eat a few bites of it. I excitedly bite into my first bite of my burnt ends.....i spit it in my napkin. Let me be clear i'm not one to do this, i'll fight through the worst tasting food to not be disrespectful. But it tasted old, it was tough and it clearly wasn't burnt ends. A burnt end is the end cut of a brisket that is covered in bark, this was old brisket that had been thrown on the flat top and cooked till a dark sear formed. It was flavorless (seasoning wise) and tasted like a refrigerator. I thought maybe it was just that piece so I taste three other pieces, all of which are inedible. I didn't eat any of my lunch, very disappointing. I won't lie, there was a table next to me of 6 people and I heard them debating getting the burnt ends, i walked over and quietly told them not to get them, that they were horrid, i'd hate to see someone wast $20 to throw it away like i had. My husband ordered the combo platter, he got the burnt ends and pulled pork with a side of mac and cheese and mashed potatoes, also he got 2 kaiser rolls so he could make sandwiches with his meat. His burnt ends were just as awful as mine, his pulled pork was fresh, it was moist but no smoky flavor. The kaiser rolls were soft. The mac and cheese was just as strange as mine. And the mashed potatoes were very strange in color and i dared not taste it. He ate a few bites then stopped when he found chunks of burnt stuff in them. My son had the kids burger with french fries. No complaints, i tried the fries and they were good. My daughter had the chicken nuggets and though i didn't try them they came out very dark as if they were either over cooked or cooked in old oil. She didn't complain and she ate them. I was so very disappointed with my meal I had to go to McDonald's on the way home because i was left so hungry. Though i should have i did not complain, i paid my $65 ($75 with tip) and left with a rumbly tummy and a deep sadness i wasted that much money on a meal i didn't even eat. I would be willing to try again, maybe, the waitress was very kind and i understand being understaffed and over worked so my rating in no way reflects her service or personality. It reflects that meal that I wish I had never gotten.

Very mediocre, Americanized food. There is very little spice in any of their "hot" dishes, and not matter how much I beg for some heat, it's always bland. There are no other options for Asian food in the immediate area unless you drive to Thurmont, so we'll eat there in a pinch, but I can make better food at home.
How can you be the only person there and they screw up your order? Unfortunately I did not realize it till I had driven away to where I was staying. Next time in town, a different place to eat.
It wasn't the greatest restaurant ever, don't recommend it that much.. unless you want okay Chinese food, it's not recommended 100%

About three hours after our last McDonald's expedition came a very sudden and surprise stop at this one to reset my colon. The drive thru was fairly busy. Thankfully the inside was not. The men's bathroom was filthy with a sink that had three huge cracks in it that made me wonder how water isn't rolling onto the floor when it gets turned on. Past that we bought a few drinks since I felt guilty for what transpired in stall #1 (there only is one stall so numbering it is stupid, but whatever) and we were on our way.
We stopped by this McDonald's a few days ago on a trip to Gettysburg in order to get coffee and perhaps lunch. It was about 11 am - plenty of staff were behind the counter with manager and they seemed to be ramping up for the lunch crowd. It's an older store and on the smaller side. I walked into the women's room. It was filthy, completely filthy. The toilets were dirty inside and out and the sink area had hair on it. There was a female staff member int the bathroom at the time who seemed not to notice or care. I walked back out and then looked more at the general cleanliness of the store. Generally speaking, it was not good. The windows and surfaces were smudged and needed a good cleaning. I got my coffee and left. I decided to not to buy food based on my observations.
Rudest staff I've ever encountered!! Avoid at all costs! Cleanliness is non existent!
