After leaving the local Holiday Inn, the Bishop's House became our place for the next couple of nights. We've been coming here for at least 15 years. There was a tri-Athlon in the area on the date of our arrival, so we settled for the usual safety, comfort and good lodging that wasn't happening at the Holiday Inn Express in Easton (see review). Dianne has a wonderful place....from the outside throughout the entire inside. Deftly appointed so that my wife is continuously looking at the collections by Diane that go on display in all rooms...to a luxurious mattress and pillows beneath comforters and Egyptian linens. The baths are huge and well appointed with Hansgrofe shower fixtures; well preserved or matched plumbing fixtures on an assortment of ceramics. It is an aging structure, but Diane and John optimize every square foot to make the structure appealing and conducive to a wonderfully relaxing stay. When you arrive, she's already opened a bottle of wine to breathe in the library; along with some tasteful music. Although there are no-stairs, the climb to 2nd or 3rd floor is not difficult in negotiating while loaded with luggage. Once you're in the room...DVD & CATV flat screen TV; ceiling fans; unit/package HVAC and well maintained bed and bath furniture makes the place right at home. After a good night's rest; coffee in the dining room is ready for pick up and room return at 8AM. However, Diane is waiting for you at 9AM with a breakfast that makes you wonder why would anyone stay anywhere else? For our two nights, breakfast on Monday was a fruit salad & juice; two softball sized blueberry muffins that almost always go into a sack for those that take food home or on the road. French toast with Italian bread; potatoes and sausage...and more coffee and water. The next day's breakfast was a start of fruit and sorbet; shirred (coddled) eggs with cream, ham & cheese; blueberry pancakes AND the thickest bacon known to the human race served up....and the muffins du jour that likewise when in the sack and out the door. A very, very pleasant garden and seating area in the niche of the house away from street traffic and just enough parking to take care of the FIVE rooms that she meticulously maintains. The rates are $185 to $195 per night. Compared to the fiasco and massacre of hospitality at the Holiday Day Inn Express-Easton....comparable for one comes to mind; and the better deal by the time you add in the finest breakfast on the Eastern shore. Again...15 years and never a problem with the comfort and quality levels that Diane & John maintain. It's the top of the line!! bishopshouse.com/index.h…
