I love Captain Harvey's. To be honest what makes this place special is the sheer size of there subs. My wife and I always split a whole cheese steak sub and have yet to ever finish it. The meat is delicious though I have tasted better for different reason the honest truth is that

"Overstuffed" & okay meat but onions were not fried enough ... Philadelphia "Philly" cheesesteaks kicks "Captain Harvey's" food butt! I expected better ... I should have known better ... when a food place has multi-locations they fall short Do a REALLY good 1 location & leave the chains have the multi-location "blah" food! Dry meat, cheap roll, smothered in mayo. This is the "cheesesteak" that's supposed to be great. I only gave it 2 stars instead of 1 because of the large portion of meat. I picked it all off because it was dry and had no flavor. Literally like cardboard. I did eat the chewy roll. There is another sub shop on the corner that has much better food. The cheesesteak at Big Bite out did the one from here. Too bad. I won't be back even if it was for a free cheesesteak.

I was a first time customer. Food was great (steak was a little chewy at times and I had to remove from my mouth). Fountain coke wasn't mixed right and eatting area was chilly although a small heater was running. Although there were some flaws in this old time carryout restaurant I will return!

I wasn't too sure of this place when we pulled up to a strip shopping center in Dundalk, but my husband said it is a Baltimore cheesesteak staple- but he hasn't been there in a long time. $20 for a whole sub, 1 fry bottled water and a soda. The steak sub weighed 5lbs..... no joke. Seriously, I'm not sure how anyone could eat an entire cheesesteak here. I didn't think it was the best steak sub I've ever had (I'm a fan of Ginos, no cheese wiz tho), lots of onions-which I love, not too much cheese, but I didn't think the meat had any flavor - although there was tons of it.

The reviews of others are on point, tons of meat, you could seriously make an additional sub with the amount of steak you get on this. Upon entering there was several pounds of steak on the grill, hence the reason everyone is consuming such dry steak. Also the meat did lack flavor. This isn't the captain harvey's I remember from years ago, but hopefully they read these reviews and try to make some changes.

Being from LA, I happened to want Cheese steaks from MD. I've read the reviews and was so confused by them that I had to try it for myself. I agree with the reviewers that the meat is not the best quality, but have you ever ate the best tacos from a taco truck, or LA hotdogs from street vendors, or pho in Westminster? There are different classes and ratings for different classes of food!! It's not the Del Friscos or Mastros of cheese steaks, but it's a great local cheese steak spot. I'm giving it five stars for taste and service, and they serve their local community. The only thing I'd suggest is that they keep their food consistent, but other than that I'd go back if I were ever in MD.

I like eating here when I am over this side of town. The problem I am having is the meat has no flavor just like everyone else said. If they add a little bit of lemon pepper and steak seasoning it would taste better. If you get cook onions on your sub it makes the sub roll wet so get raw onions. Other than that it is a good place to eat just add some kind of seasoning.

Prices are not too good on certain items. Cheese steaks are not as good as they were years ago. Sub combos can cost close to $15. It's just not the best place to go to for taste and bang for your buck. They do have wifi.

Five stars for the cheesesteak sub. That and the meatball sub are wonderful. Never been interested in trying anything else. All the subs are big so they are worth the price. They used to have dundalk brew soda... They should bring that back

I really should give it one star, but Christmas is in two days, so I'll be nice. I went to Captain Harvey's twice this week. I took a new job in the area, and remember the glory days of this place when lines were out the door. Day 1, I got a footling. Back in the day the footlong was actually one flavorful piece of hotdog greatness; now it's two regular sized hotdogs, but with a God-awful flavor to them. Day 2, figured I'd try the classic cheesesteak. Not the same as in the glory days folks. Just flavorless, or odd flavored meat. Still the same portions, but I think the person running the store still thinks CH's is still in its heyday with a huge pile of meat and another huge pile of onions sitting on the grill begging to be used. I was the only one in the place so who knows how long the foods been sitting on the grill. I gave it two chances, but it's just not the same. The Captain Harvey's I grew up on is dead and gone, and it's never coming back. Clearly the vision of the original owner was not passed to the new owners. I don't know who drove this train off the tracks, but it's sad...I'd love just one more great meal from Captain Harvey's, but I'll probably never return.

It's been a long, long time since I've been here. After tonight's visit, I can't understand why I HAVEN'T been back. It's as good as I remember it to be - maybe better. The cheese steaks, of course, are why you want to come here. They're massive. Ginormous. This sandwich would make health nuts shudder in pure horror. Piles upon piles upon more piles of shaved meat, coupled with gooey cheese (your choice of American or provolone - I recommend the latter) and heaps of fried onions. And of course, your condiments of choice (only mayo for me, thanks - I'm a purist). We bought the two 1/2 cheese steaks/fries/drinks (combo #3) for 20.65. Well worth the price, just as I remember them to be. The shop was unbelievably empty, it's probably the emptiest I have EVER seen it - not that I was complaining, believe me. The counter staff was sweet and very helpful with my boyfriend, a complete cheese steak novice. The Love of My Life, originally from Vegas, hasn't had an original Philly cheese steak quite yet, but the Captain suffices very well, and maybe it's even better than a Philly, to be honest. He couldn't finish his at all - and he usually has quite the healthy appetite - so you have to KNOW these sandwiches are the bomb-diggity. The fries were about standard for fries, hot and crispy and good. The gravy was okay - I expected a bit creamier texture, but it was more like an "au jus" than traditional gravy. It wasn't bad at all, just not what I'd expected. I've never ordered anything else here but a cheese steak. As far as I'm concerned, why change it up? Do what you do best. :D Parking is plentiful (it's in a shopping center). Do not expect to find seating here - there isn't any. Take it on out and enjoy it right in the parking lot. Many do. Was informed over the phone that Captain Harvey's on Merritt Boulevard is no longer associated with the location on Dundalk Avenue. This is the original location where it all started. We will be back!

This place is awesome! They are very generous on the amount of meat they put into the sandwiches and it fresh off the grill! I think the prices are very reasonable and everything is delicious! Even the fries are just the right amount of crispy and delicious. Will come back here again!

This place used to be the best in town, but everything about it has gone downhill. There's a ton of fat in the steak which is never enjoyable. I've had my steak come out on multiple occasions, pre-cooked, from a huge mound underneath of foil on slow days. makes me wonder if it's been there all morning. Way too many onions, with SLICES of American cheese. No thank you.

Huge portion! The cheese steak is so stuffed it just falls out of the bun. To finish a whole sub is like some kind of twisted Man vs. Food challenge. If you have a big appetite they have a cheese steak for you!

Eating one of these steak sandwiches is an F-ed up experience. Huge, gnarled...sopping with onions and gooey cheese. A giant hog of a sub. A dumpy location, with lots of freaks and cross-eyeds running around and looking at you. But yes, I admit, i enjoy these damn things. Bring along paper towels and handi-wipes - you'll surely need 'em!

I've been having captain harvey's for years and i must say these are awesome and huge. The fires here could sink a ship. Some people are purists about their steak subs and this may not be the best I've ever had but they are damn good and a whole one can feed a family of four with as much steak as they put on these bad boys.

Roll is too soft, meat isn't high quality, overcooked onions. But huge portion.

best steak sub in maryland, i would go as far as to say even better then philly, 1/2 sub is big enough to make 2 subs out of all the meat
