We did a little test- could a friend of ours confirm what Yelp said about local restaurants in Chestertown ? Did the stars match her personal impressions? The answer was "yes" over and again and she does not follow Yelp, so there you go. The point? Both Yelp and our friend love Uncle Charlie's Bistro and now we do too! The three of us had drinks, entrees and desserts. The crab dip and crab cake sandwiches were excellent. The home made chips, sweet potato fries and Cole slaw were yummy. And when the wicked wicked server suggested dessert we went for it. The desserts are really in-house made. The key lime pie and creme brûlée were terrific and the wacky bourbon bacon ice cream was a revelation. All three of us tasted some of everything. With two beers and an ice tea, tax and tip came out to about $92.00. We appreciated the friendly helpful service and the easy parking. Uncle Charlie's is a gem. . v

Living in an area with few choices, Uncle Charlies is a local staple. The food is above average. We like the different specials and the burgers are thick and juicy. However it is over priced for what you get. The atmosphere is too bright and feels more like a cafeteria. Most wait staff was friendly and attentive, but you can feel rushed. Last time we were brought the desert menu while people were still eating. Overall it is a good place to eat, but not a good eating experience.

Went in on a Sunday. It had maybe 6 tables of elderly people seated. One waitress greeted a table that had been sat almost 10 minutes after us. The other waitress rolled her eyes and made what appeared to be snyde comment to the host that sat us. We promptly left after no one had come to even take our drink order after 15 minutes. I guess they don't need the business and surely don't deserve it. Don't waste your time!

Uncle Charlie catered a recent work function I was very happy with the food. The crab cakes were especially good, had nice lumps of crab, good flavor and from what the owner related was made with locally sourced crab and fish. The potato chips were delish, I would certainly buy a large bag for back home if available. There was also a pasta salad that everyone seemed to enjoy. After the catered event we all came back to the bistro for after dinner drinks and the establishment was very nice. Clean bathrooms, nice decor, well mixed drinks and a decent beer selection. Would highly recommend.

I'm from out of town, so I chose Uncle Charlie's based on the Yelp reviews. I was not disappointed. Fresh ingredients and awesome recipes. I started with the nachos. They came LOADED with good stuff on house made tortilla chips. After that I had the crab vegetable soup, a generous portion with lots of crab meat. Then I ordered a crispy shrimp wrap from the daily specials. It was outstanding. Dessert was also WAY above average. Portions were large! I took home enough stuff to repeat my delicious meal later on.

Stopped for lunch and had the Ahi Tuna salad. The portion was a healthy size (unlike what you might find at other places), the dressing and veggies were great too. The staff is nice and the food is good. Great find Yelp. I would definitely recommend this place if you're in the area.

Awesome dinner on Saturday night. My husband had the softshell crab sandwich with order of sweet potato fries. I had the special: salmon with lobster dill sauce. It was fabulous. We were served delicious bread and were able to select a moderately priced wine. While other reviewers call this fine dining we were welcomed in our shorts and casual attire. Our server was excellent. I would definitely eat here again next time I am in the area.

I thought this place was fine. I went for a late lunch a couple of days after Christmas. It's cute, nicely decorated with nice music playing. The waitress was attentive and polite. The food was fine. Did I use that word already? Well, that's the word that keeps coming to mind. The vegetable crab soup was fine. The special mahimahi salad was fine. The club sandwich and philly cheesesteaks were also fine. Three things went beyond fine: the iced tea, the homemade potato chips and the homemade bourbon and bacon ice cream. They were great. So nothing bad+a few greats=fine. I'd go back.

Yelp does it again. After reading the good reviews on yelp, we tried Uncle Charlie's for dinner while passing through. All the food was great and the service also. Chuck was in site and was on top of everything. Great local oysters at reasonable price. Shrimp and grits was wonderful. Both shrimp and grits cooked perfectly. My wife's crab cake was perfect. The wine selection by the glass contained affordable and more expensive options. Overall a wonderful visit.

An excellent hidden gem. Service was outstanding with even better food. Fresh ingredients with great culinary skill made for an enjoyable dining experience! The wife and I stopped for lunch and we liked it so much we went back for dinner that same day!

A rainy Monday with company we decided to explore Chestertown. Thru YELP I found Uncle Charlie's Bistro. It is a little tricky to find only because it's directly behind the SUBWAY restaurant. Pull in that driveway and UCB has a side door entrance. Food and service was excellent. Our server Angelina was friendly, helpful and all smiles. The owner/chef came to our table three times to make sure we enjoyed every course and was quite conversational about the place and how it came to be (he had an Uncle Charlie whose picture is prominently displayed). Between the four of us we had beers, the vegetable crab soup, fried oysters, cuban sandwiches, patty melt and the Chesapeake burger with crab cake on top. We wanted everything on the homemade dessert menu but we were all in the mood for ice cream. The ice cream is made on the premises as well. We tried and thoroughly enjoyed the bourbon bacon i.c., the seasonal pumpkin i.c. and the dutch chocolate was our favorite - so chocolatey!! My friend is a tea drinker and she was favorably impressed by the Twinings tea box of choices. My husband and I will definitely return. There was a great menu with lots of specials. The owner told us his breads come from Philadelphia and he uses Dietz & Watson meats. I read on the chalk board that one night a week they serve lobsters for $19.95 - can't wait!

Suprising and delicious lunch! Thanks Uncle Charlie! My husband and I stopped in for lunch and we were very pleased. French onion soup was tasty and well worth $5, My garden salad was amazing. Generous portion but it was SO FRESH the spring mix lettuce had great crunch. I wish I had a picture to show you, but it was BIG at only $6. You have the option to add a protein which I will do next time for sure. The wine list is quite nice looking and very affordable both by the glass and by the bottle-can't wait to try next time. My husband had the oyster po-boy and it too was very good. A creamy horseradish sauce stole the show on the po boy sandwich. yum. Great service today at lunch. The location makes you think its going to be an ordinary pizza take out place BUT it is not. Nice dining room and very good food. We will go back for dinner for sure!

Had Thanksgiving dinner at Uncle Charlie,s Bistro yesterday, and I wanted to say that it was by far one of the best dinner s I've ever had, especially the fact that it was buffet style . Starting with the shrimp and raw oysters, everything in between, (probably the best sweet pot i,ve ever had in my life), right to the big selection of pie at the end. Will certainly attend next year, can,t wait

When in Chestertown, this is almost as good as it gets! We went here while on a trip to the area, and certainly had no complaints. The food came out of the kitchen hot and seasoned well. The service was also good. I can't say that this will be a place to remember for me, but when looking for other places to eat in Chestertown, this place beats out most.

This was a great find, thanks to Yelp! We stopped by Sunday evening late. Service started a little slow, but was extremely attentive once we got going. Our son has a food allergy and so I always appreciate a server going above and beyond and she certainly did (thank you!). Food was phenomenal from start to finish. Warm delicious starter breads, calamari, shrimp & grits, clam bake, house made pasta, house made desserts, etc. Definitely a great stop!

Don't let the outside fool you--excellent food and atmosphere! Our family stumbled upon this restaurant during a visit to the area from Philly for vacation. We were extremely impressed by the quality of food and portions. Orange Chipotle ribs, pot roast, and prime rib were some of the highlights. We will return here next time we are in the area.

I was in Chestertown for a show and I wanted some food so I asked Siri for the best places to eat and uncle Charlie's bistro came up with 4.5 stars so I went there and got a burger and the burger was phenomenal and for desert I got there New York style cheese cake and it was amazing all of there food is amazing there it is WOW just a great place to eat at so if your local or a visitor go to Uncle Charlie's Bistro for lunch and/or dinner you will love it there but I do have one eh thing about it and it's not food or anything that could make it bad but they do close at 8:00 and that's usually when people eat mostly but sometimes not and the really finish around 7:50ish but besides that it's a wonderful place for all types of food so stop by and eat at Uncle Charlie's Bistro!!!

Good example of not being able to judge a book by its cover. In a little dingy strip mall. Hostess was not terribly friendly, but rest of service was real good. Excellent fried oysters, and an above average, perfectly cooked burger. My friend had the gazpacho, and a chicken pasta that were also very good. The owner even came over and checked on us; this place caught me off guard. PS-parking was ample.

All we can say is WOW! We came here after reading reviews on yelp, and were a little worried when we arrived and there were not a lot of people in the place. We just finished our meal and can't even imagine why this place is not packed from open to close. Came for lunch, so we got a few smaller things (all recommended by our extremely pleasant and helpful waitress). I had the crab mac and cheese and a side salad. The mac and cheese blew me away....it's made with penne pasta, bacon, halved cherry tomatoes and of course fresh crab and a velvety cheese sauce, baked to perfection with a little crumble on top. Mmmmmmmmmmm!!!!! The side salad was fresh and a perfect side to the mac. The balsamic was delicious. My husband had the fried oysters, again at the reccomendation of our waitress. Lightly battered and flash fried so the oyster was still plump, juicy and delicious. They are served with an excellent horseradish cream sauce. He also had the wings. Also....perfect. Only regret is that we didn't save room for dessert, we heard the desserts here are just as good. Oh well, we will just have to come back...very soon!!

I am in Chestertown on business and looked up restaurants in the area. This one came highly recommended. I will tell you...it did not disappoint. The meal started with amazing warm bread and dipping sauce. I ordered the Clam Bake for my main course ....it was awesome. I finished off the meal with their New York cheesecake. It was tasty and creamy. The portions on everything were perfect. Everyone on the staff was friendly and welcoming. I would not hesitate to eat here again.

Went here while on a weekend vacation. I ordered the ribeye, which wasn't bad but a little too salty. The waitress was new and forgot our bread, but she was sweet, and it was her first night. My husband enjoyed the rockfish. The owner or manager was also very friendly and accommodating.

I was in town with a friend recently for a swim race. we had dinner there the night before. The service was very lovely. Food left a bit to be desired. We had a cheese plate to start that fell a bit flat. My dinner entree was odd - heavy cream and cheese sauce over a pan seared tuna over pasta. it was ok but not great.

Never a disappointment. Uncle Charlie's puts a signature spin on Eastern Shore favorite entrees and sides. Desserts are homemade, for the most part, and complete the meal grandly. Atmosphere is cheerful and warm,

Was traveling through Chestertown and went at the recommendation of the front desk of the hotel where we were staying. AMAZING! The chef, Joshua, is an excellent chef with skills and professionalism that surpass your expectations. We joked that we would travel the two hours from northern VA to come back to this restaurant. The food was incredible and the service was great. Highly recommend to anyone!
