I'm giving Pepino's 3 stars because although it didn't blow me away, the food was decent. Service was friendly. The prices on the menu are cheaper than most of its competitors. We had no problem getting a table on a Saturday night during dinner service hours, so that was a plus for me. However that usually means the restaurant isn't doing too well. It was weird that this place had a huge sign saying "we're still open", because most of the other businesses in this strip mall have been abandoned. The pizza was ok, but in my opinion it was too thin and nothing spectacular. I enjoied Joe's salad and the warm bread with the self serve cheese and olive oil on the table. I usually don't care about the decor of a restaurant as long as the food is good. But this restaurant looks older, and like it hasn't changed in years. I'll probably return in the future to try out the pasta.

We came here on a restaurant.com deal and I can understand why they're going under. They are in a dead strip mall near the pike. When we walked in it resembled more of a retirement home than a restaurant, but hey, we had a deal. Service: Friendly and helpful. Food: The bread wasn't horrible but nothing special. The fried calamari was pretty good. It was crisp and not soggy which always gets a gold star in my book. My eggplant parm wasn't bad but I could have made the same thing at home. My boyfriend felt the same about his chicken parm. We also ordered a pizza to go so we could use our deal and it looks so-so and very light on the cheese. Verdict: Meh. If you have a deal, maybe. Otherwise it's pretty forgettable.

Don't let the abandoned shopping center fool you - this place is open and is awesome. Great bread to start, a homemade cheese blend for your food as well. Girlfriend had the veal, she loved it. I nibbled off of it too. Loved it. I had the manicotti - it too was great. This is a hidden gem. Seek it out and eat!

I've been here a couple times. The food is pretty good and the prices are reasonable. Good, friendly service. It can get pretty crowded at dinner time because it's not very big, but I didn't wait more than 15 minutes.

Nice family owned business. Food is tastey and homey. I enjoy taking the family there. It is clean and has been around for a while. Good prices and friendly staff. Would recommend.

My parents really like this place so I was excited to try it out with them on a family lunch. Unfortunately, I wish I had stayed home. I tried all the dishes that everyone ordered and only ONE was even remotely palatable. Bread: Doughy and bland Minestrone soup: Tasted like it came out of a can. Nasty, thin, and strangely vinegary. The only things in it were carrots, celery, onions, peas, and a few elbow macaroni. Where are the beans? Where is the flavor? Linguine with clams, white sauce: Butter and oil. That is ALL I tasted. I took a few bites and couldn't handle finishing it because it was so heavy; I felt a little ill. Linguine with calamari, white sauce: Too much butter and too much oil just like the clams. What made it worse is that the calamari was totally flavorless, so it felt like I was just chewing on rubber. Eggplant Parmesan: The only edible thing I tasted the entire meal and even this dish was only mediocre. Soggy eggplant that wasn't seasoned very well and sauce that tasted like it came from a can. The only upside is that the service was friendly and it seemed like there were a lot of older regulars who knew the owners which shows that the restaurant cares about the locals. Unfortunately their food isn't good enough for me to come here enough to become a regular.

We were a party of 4 dining Sunday evening. The room was filled more by staff than by customers when we entered at 6, and never was half filled when we left 1 1/2 hours later. Service was outstanding. The decor is nondescript, actually old looking. Most but all diners during this time sample were seniors, as were we. The menu ranged in price for entrees between $10 & $20, skewed toward the lower end. Wine by the glass was uniformly $6.99 with 3 or 4 whites and an equal no. of reds. The two colors are listed on separate pages. Since I was interested in fish, I thought they only had white. Tradition aside, I had the house Chianti, a generous glass, quite ok for the money, except that it was served slightly warm, not at the cool room temperature one would expect. But the same goes for the room. That evening they were having AC problems on this hot day. Ceiling fans kept it somewhat tolerable. Our dinners consisted of eggplant parmesian and a special, grilled whole rockfish. All of us were satisfied with the quality of the dishes. The eggplant was at the bottom of the price list at $9.99; the fish was a surprise. We naively assumed (always a no-no) that it would be around the top of the price list, but not $27 in this restaurant. But I must say it was a of a generous size and delicious! In a more up-scale restaurant I wouldn't have been surprised. The dishes were served with either spaghetti in a tasty red sauce or fresh mixed vegetables, either sauteed with garlic and oil or steamed, which was the choice of two of us. I must add that this restaurant is in a nearly abandoned strip mall on the east side of U.S. 29 at the junction with MD 198. The anchor grocery moved to a refurbished mall on the west side. All that's left here is a bank and some fast food places. So, who knows this old restaurant will remain.

I am giving Pepino's 5 stars. While they aren't a massive chain and cannot produce on the same level a "cookie cutter" experience as your TGIF, Olive Garden, or Outback, here is what they do provide: * Family-owned. I feel better eating here knowing that it's not just another chain. * GREAT food. Yes, I said GREAT. Those of you who live in Burtonsville know you can go get fast food, you can go a bit further up the road and get chain restaurants, or you can stay in Burtonsville and count the number of local family-owned restaurants on your hand that are good. If you love veal, this is the place for you. It's not as fancy as going to Bethesda. But the food is just as good as many Italian places we have eaten in Bethesda. * Excellent service. The co-owner came out to our table to make sure everything was great. * Competitive pricing. Yes, I know this raises a red flag. Their pricing IS a bit high but then again, you get what you pay for. You can taste how fresh the meal is - it's not canned spaghetti sauce on top of those noodles. Plus, if you use restaurant.com or entertainment book, you save a decent amount. My wife and I ordered: * 2 iced teas * appetizer: tomatoes and mozzarella * 2 veal entrees * 2 desserts The total after our restaurant.com certificate, including 18% gratuity, was around $38. Regarding the appearance, yes - it is not that fancy. It needs to be redecorated. But then again, who knows how long it will survive in that shopping center. I am seeing "We're still here" signs now because everything in that shopping center seems to be moving. But I hope Pepino's emerges and finds a new location, updates their appearance, and becomes one of Burtonsville's best dinner locations. For now though, put yourself in the owner's shoes. Would YOU invest thousands of dollars to modernize the place when you're going to re-evaluate your lease soon? We will be back. If you haven't tried Pepino's and you live in Burtonsville, give it a try. It won't hurt your pocketbooks and you will support a true family-owned small business trying their hardest to make it.

The family that owns the place is nice, but I am never encouraged when I walk into a restaurant and it looks like an old folk's home on the inside, that includes the decor and most of the customers that seem to frequent the place. We eat out every Friday night, and my father in law picked Pepinos this time around. I had the Chicken Pizzolia and it was okay, but the sauce tasted like plain tomato sauce with bell peppers cooked into it. It definitely lacked a personal touch and I felt like I was eating spaghetti Os poored over chicken. Not cool at all. On top of it, the place is a closet with very little room to move around. You end up sitting on top of the people next to you and being bumped into by waiters passing your tables. I don't recommend this place at all. If you're looking for good italian, head over to Soleil De Italia in Ashton. Much better food and more room.

Mediocre place with mediocre food. We purchased a deal online and said NOWHERE that alcohol is not included. I always read the fine print because sometimes they do include it. We were told that it was included and then when the bill came, we were told that it was not included so we needed to spend another $15 dollars. They were nice enough to allow us to order a pizza to go (which was the best part of the meal and wish I had ordered that for dinner instead) . What really annoyed me was that it was a party of two and the checks are HAND WRITTEN.. it gave me a total and I walked to the register to pay the total. I should have asked about the bill since I could not read it but I am a trusting person. I paid the bill and then said to the two women at the front "thank you so much, I am going to go put the tip on the table" they said great and I left. Once I got to the car and started adding everything up in my head, I realized that the bill was higher than it should be and that's when I realized that they put gratuity on for a party of two. I went back in and the lady at the register apologized and took the $12.00 I had left on the table out of the register and handed it to me. Seemed very fishy to me and I was not at all pleased with the customer service. The décor needs to be updated and you better hope that they don't seat a person at the table behind you or you will never be able to get out of your seat.

Yes, this is a older, family owned restaurant that appears to have been here some time. Yes, there were a few seniors, and yes the place could use an update. Also let me add another yes to PERSONAL SERVICE! What this place lacks in decor and delicacies it makes up for in personality. I thought the food was good- not great. Prices were good. I would go back again. It's not my favorite place, but it's a good choice.

I live right around the corner and got quite excited to hear that there was an italian place close by. Boy was I disappointed. The food is lackluster. Plain tasting almost as if the sauces are poured our of a jar. I am more than willing to eat that on occasion, I like to support smaller family owned operations. However, I've been there 3 times and I ordered food to go to bring home for lunch today. They charged me for a dinner portion and gave me a small lunch portion. When I tried to talk to the woman at the front she actually argued with me. Are you serious?! I have no problem paying for the dinner portion but make sure that I get it. I will never be back to this place. The customer service sucks, the have tried to nickle and dime their clients on a few occassions not to mention the food isn't that good. If your in the area head over to pasta plus in Laurel.

The food is good but the atmosphere needs a change desperately. The carpet is very old and feels dirty. The wall decor and tables are way too old. The staff is very nice but they have to do something about the outdated interior.

I have always enjoyed the food from this little Italian restaurant. My favorite meal is the Chicken Parm. The carryout service has never been disappointing to me.

2.5 stars. lackluster. Pepino's just isn't that great, and the competition in the area isn't that stiff so I think that's how it continues to survive year after year. I've had the eggplant parm on a few occasions and while it's not bad by far, something is missing that cannot be made up by adding a pound of mozz. The garlic bread is a little strange and clearly made with some type of jarred garlic concoction. The fried zucchini was greasy, limp, and tasteless. The gnocchi with white sauce bland. At the end of the day, when your choices in the immediate area are Taco Bell, Hamburger, Hamburger & Starbucks - I'd go with Pepino's, but don't get your hopes up high.

Loved it! We enjoyed getting together with friends at this lovely restaurant last night. I used to work in food service, so I'm very particular about the quality of food, presentation, atmosphere and service. This delightful restaurant deserves TEN STARS!

Not too impressed with Pepino's. The Italian food is below average here. Eggplant parm is the only thing I really at Pepino's. Everything else here is not that great.

White pizza and antipasto are the best. Unique flavors! Staff is very accommodating and friendly. Tuscan Chicken special in the winter is tremendous.

This place belongs at Leisure World! Do not waste your time, this place serves below average food. Better choices elsewhere like Pasta Plus

Pretty average italian food but there is ZERO competition around so its ok. Prices are pretty good though. We keep going back for the "chocolate cheesecake" which is WONDERFUL. Its a chocolate cake on top of a regular cheesecake. One slice will easily feed two.

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
