The Woodmont Grill (used to be called Houston's) is a great place to go to enjoy good food and great service. I do not get to Bethesda very often, but last week I had an appointment near by so a friend and I decided to stop by. It was a really nice evening so we sat on the outdoor patio. To drink we ordered waters and Riesling. The water came right out but the wine didn't come out until after the salads were being taken away - a little late but the waitress was apologetic. We ended up asking them to take them back and got soft drinks instead. To eat we started with their fried oysters. They were topped with a relish which was just the right amount of acidity for these perfectly fried oyster. We then had side salads. She got the house dressing which is slightly sweet. Really good. I got a blue cheese like no other. It had oil on top which looked a little strange but it really worked on the salad mix that included corn and homemade croutons. My friend got a burger for her meal with fries. Is was cooked to perfection and was huge! I ordered the bone-in rib eye with a loaded baked potato. Unlike most places, I ordered the steak medium rare and guess what? It came out medium rare! It had great char on it and was juicy and delicious. And since all that wasn't enough for us (just kidding, we had plenty left over), we got a sundae for dessert. It came out in a huge bowl with a gravey bowl of hot fudge on the side. The entire experience was very good. I rate the place 4 stars only because of the delay in bar drinks but the service and food was finominal. I will be back soon.

I found my Sunbelt Salad!!! I was heart broken when the Houston's in Rockville closed. The Woodmont Grill is Houston's with a name change! Nice place and friendly staff.

Houston Restaurant has always been my family favorite, but the Georgetown location was actually better in my opinion. The Bethesda location is cool, but it was something a little different about the Georgetown location; a little shopping then lets hit Houston's bar until a table was available. By the time you got your table you have met over 15 friends that have randomly stopped by to see who was in the place that day - in return you basically never had to pay for your meal.

My initial review docked them a star for spotlighting what I viewed as a deceitful "favorite review" on this Yelp page. In the two days since I posted that critique, they have switched their favorite review to one that contains no apparent demonstrable falsehoods. Whether these events are connected, I have no idea, but in any event I am declaring victory, giving them their third star, and moving on.

Wonderful restaurant. Went on Valentines day, and despite the large crowd and first-come, first-served seating (no reservations for dinner though they do accept them for lunch), they were able to get us seated in ~15 minutes. Just like at Houston's, the Hickory Burger is one of the best burgers you'll find anywhere. Spin dip is great. Service was excellent. Great restaurant in Bethesda.

So its been ages since I've stepped foot in Bethesda so I didn't even remember how nifty the downtown scene is let alone the whole food situation. Woodmont was packed when I arrived (and it was a generic Monday night) but the staff was beyond courteous and the live jazz band made the wait time fly. The food was amazing! Started with the spinach dip - although you might think that spinach dip is that kind of no brainer that any one could crank out Woodmont does it best. Plenty of spinach and quality cheese - its just smooth and delicious. My friend had the Thai steak salad and I had grilled tuna - both were lovely. Just the right amount and a flavor I couldn't impart on steak if I marinated it for 8 days. Even the simple salad that came with my tuna had mango, root veggies and avocado -- they knew the perfect pairing to make each bite a treat and a real compliment to the simply grilled tuna. As much as I loved my meal my friend's dinner made me drool - this amazing Thai sauce and noodle base topped with the fantastic steak and veggies. They also had a great wine list. I very literally just brought back two bottles of a Sancerre from California - a brand I couldn't find locally.... guess what... they have it! I was so excited! Having a glass of that wine on their patio in the beautiful summer weather was the perfect ending to a long day and it made me feel like I was back in Long Beach. The manager stopped by to just check in and I ended up chatting her up for no less than 20mins. Again, I've worked in fine dining and had my share of upscale meals - what makes the most impact is that magical combo of great service, ambiance and quality food. Woodmont has it all.... amazing food, service I haven't experienced in ages and a beautiful setting that's intimate and cozy.

AAhhhhhhhhh! Houston's! How I adore thee! :-) It's called Woodmont Grill here (not sure why except that it's on Woodmont)...but make no mistake, it is Houston's right down to the very last hidden chicken tenders no-longer-on-the-menu-but-we'll-cook-it-for-you-anyway item! Everything about this place was perfection! Just the way Houston's restaurants have always been and continue to be! Service = 100% fabulous (and seamless they way that EVERY server looks out for each other's tables...water is always full...plates are delivered and cleared...customers are taken care of, no matter whose table it is!) Food is amazing! Caesar salad with shaved oh-so-thin grilled chicken and house dressing = divine!...Cheese toast appetizer = Melted slice of heaven!...Wood-fired Grilled artichoke = OMGosh Amazing!...and, as I mentioned, my husband ordered his longtime favorite, Chicken Tenders Platter (that you can't get at HOUSTON's in Los Angeles anymore!) and it took him back 6 years! He was so happy! Brownie dessert in champagne custard...so yummy! And, to top it all off...LIVE Jazz Band to set the mood! LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this place!

I was taken here for my "welcome to the office" lunch. Even though there was a bit of a line, the wait was very minimal and we got seated in a comfy booth. The decor is the first thing that struck me. It's darkly lit, accentuated by the dark colours. It reminded me a cigar lounge and I felt like people should be drinking scotch and smoking cigars, not eating burgers and salads. The wait staff was as nice as the hostess. This actually is something special for me as I have had bad experiences with both, especially during lunch hours. But the waitress was prompt and a generally nice person, which was great. We even made a take-out order for people back in the office and that was ready for us by the time we were ready to go. I ordered the fresh fish sandwich, which came with a fish that was a cross between mahi-mahi and salmon. (No, not tuna...) I just have no idea what it was called. It was served burger-style with tartar sauce. It was incredibly messy but very good. I think that the fish was a tiny bit too dry, but not enough to actually complain about. The dish came with fries. I have to mention that they bring you mustard and mayo without you having to ask for it. That was very much appreciated, since I am one of those weird people who loves fries with mayo. All in all, I really enjoyed it here. I think that $14 for a burger is a bit much, but they are really good, and so I guess you can live with.

Good spot for grabbing a juicy burger in a good atmosphere. I love that they have a live band, it's unique for the area. Also, the service is always very friendly and fast. My only complaint is I wish they had a slightly more diverse menu.

Pretty fancy restaurant. We had the Wood Grilled Artichoke. It was pretty good, not sure if it was work $14 for what I got out of it. Then I got the prime rib. Excellent, just the right temperature. Seasoned well. Then I got the Key Lime Pie. This was also made well, lots of lime flavor. Overall I'd definitely recommend this place and will definitely come back.

We went on a Tuesday night and were told it would be a 40 minute wait. It was over an hour. Because of the wait we were treated to a complementary smoked salmon appetizer which was tasty. The service was good and the wait staff friendly. I ordered the crab cake salad which was tasty. The sea bass was average and expensive. I would go back but only if there were no wait as the food was not worth waiting for and the dining room is loud with the jazz.

Okay, if you are ever in Bethesda, MD. then you have to go to Woodmont Grill, formerly Houston's. You may choose from the following three things to order: 1. Veggie burger; 2. Hawaiian Steak; 3. Chicken Tenders. Now go and do not look back. Heed this wisdom and you will really enjoy your meal. This is the future talking. Okay, got carried away..... I've been going to Houston's for some time. They even have a location in Texas. I think or is it Cali. Not sure but you could do me a solid and Google that for me. Their apple tart with vanilla ice cream is a must-order too. But if you are in a rush on a Fri or Sat night be preparted to wait at a min. 30 mins for a table. This place is a mainstay and everyone in the DC area knows it.

This is was my first time dining here a couple of weeks ago and I have to say I was pleasantly surprised as I am not one for what I consider fast food. Yes, I am not one who likes chain restaurants and I consider most of them fast food. Something that is repeated over and over so much that you can get it pretty much anywhere. I dined here as this is where my date wanted to go as he loves the spinach artichoke dip and I can see why. I was some of the best I have had in a long time. We got there and were seated right away even though they were in the middle of a shift change from lunch to dinner and the Redskins game was going on. The crowd in the bar was yelling and crying as they lost that game I think! We were seated on the wall beside the bar so we could check out the game while waiting for our food not something I would normally do on a date but since we both enjoy football it was fine. So after reviewing the menu and listening to the specials my date and I made our choices for our meal. Spinach artichoke dip followed by a nice Rib eye steak (medium) and the fish special of the day. Flounder topped with crab meat with roasted eggplant. The service was very good and the food was so much better than I thought it was very going to be. The steak was cooked to perfection and my fish was incredible we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and I look forward to repeating this dining experience again soon. Sorry, I can't comment on the decor much as I was not really looking at it I was paying all my attention to my date! But I promise on my next trip to update about the decor and any changes that may have happened.

I honestly can't think of one detractor to this place. This place is about as consistent and well run restaurant as I think I've encountered. The staff is always neatly appointed, polite, and professional. The food is always well prepared and there are a range of options. Additionally, they can get you in and out quickly for lunch if need be. Its somewhat remarkable that they consistently execute time after time. The fact that they have their own parking lot right next door really puts it over the top.

Houston's easily has the best club sandwich anywhere in the area. I used to go on Sundays to the Houston's in Rockville to get the club sandwich which was only available on weekends and the ex would order the racquet club. The sandwich is huge and tastes incredibly fresh and also comes with a side dish. Other than that sandwich--which is a good enough reason to go--i prefer other chains over this one. For how much the steaks are, I'd rather go to an actual steakhouse. Although prices are quite high, this place is always packed with people. One problem i've had is when i would go on a Sunday for the club sandwich only to find they didn't have the ingredients available? it never occur ed to me that this sandwich would require extraordinary prep time/work. Nor would i expect the classic ingredients of a club sandwich to be unavailable. when you're so set on one thing and then have to choose something else, it's always disappointing. i usually settle on the prime rib even though it's more than twice as expensive. it's very good and they usually give me a few prime rib bones to take home to my spoiled dogs. the bar at the Rockville Houston's is much more comfortable than the bar in Bethesda. It's a large wraparound wooden bar rather than the standard left to right bar in Bethesda and it's much quieter. The bar in Rockville is actually sectioned off from the dining area and overall i prefer everything about the Rockville restaurant than the Bethesda chain if i had to choose. Plus, there's an abundance of parking at the Rockville location which is always nice when you're hungry.

I've given this place 2 tries and each time I come out of here wishing I'd spent my money on something better. Bland food with no taste-definitely not worth it. Steak was overdone and tasteless and the fish this time was overdone and lacking whatever sauce was supposed to come with it. I think I'm more angry at the bad service this time around- the waiter didn't want to be there- Jim, buddy, I tip well but not when you can't be bothered to come get me some water because you are too busy hitting on the hostess. Why people still go here is beyond me.

Great burgers and veggie burgers -- 13 bucks is a little steep for lunch -- and am not a huge fan of the shoestring french fries, but this is one of the better burger options (if not the best) in Bethesda now that Willie & Reeds is closed. Decent menu, but it does seem a bit pricey given that it is a chain -- I would opt for David Craig if I am spending that kind of money in Bethesda -- or Black's -- love them both! Dec 07 and Mar 08 updates (upgraded to 4 stars from 3.5) I now prefer Houston's over Black's -- better service and better food. Also, their chicken fingers (with tempura batter) might be the best chicken fingers ever -- they aren't on the menu -- but they will probably serve them up if you ask for them. Their salads are great and love their red bean and rice soup on Mondays (though $6 for a little bowl is a bit steep). They now make their own buns -- and the burgers and sandwiches are all great. Service is always excellent -- close to the service at Great American Restaurants -- always attentive and friendly.

Even though this is a chain, they always have excellent food and even better service (difficult to find in DC). Each Houston's is pretty much the same restaurant from the perspective of the diner. The lighting is very low, the feeling is swanky, and the noise volume is waaaay up. It's definitely not a place for a quiet meal with a date, but can be fun for a group of friends. The food on the menu is always excellent. I recommend the spinach and artichoke dip as an appetizer; it's definitely a step above most of the reheated/frozen varaties you find a lot of restaurants serving these days. The other cool thing is that they have fresh fish available as well as a vegetable of the day. I tend to go for the salmon sandwich (if it's available) or get one of their huge salads. The service here is always great. Attentive enough, but not rushing you through the meal. Plus, the prices are pretty reasonable considering the quality of food and service. Overall, an excellent spot for a meal!

This is definitely one of the very few chain restaurants worth its salt. It has a simple menu, so rest assured everything on there has been carefully planned and will come out well-executed and delicious. The spinach dip is addictive, as is the smoked salmon. After eating the ribs here, you'll never want to eat the bone-clinging kind ever again. And the veggie burger is delicious enough to make a bonafide carnivore like myself devour it and order it time after time. That said, if you're used to the Houston's out west (California, Arizona), it won't quite live up. It's as if they took the B-team from California, shipped them to the DC suburbs, and renamed the place. It starts with the service -- when I went last time, my server was unfamiliar with the wine list, and then after being out of the first two wines I asked for, as well as the banana dessert, the server didn't really acknowledge how much of a disappointment it was and how annoying it was to have to be constantly picking new things. All it would have taken was a little joke, "wow, today's not your day!" or something. Instead, she was kind of cold and almost seemed annoyed that I happened to pick the things they were out of! That said, I'll keep coming back, and back, and back. This place is simply delicious.

Overall, the food was pretty good, especially the salmon and the spinach artichoke dip, and the service was what you'd expect for a nicer restaurant. I wasn't overwhelmed by anything, though. Solid American fare, pretty typical, but a little pricey for me personally for what it was. This could be a five star place for me if it was either a little cheaper or a little more unique.

a.k.a Houston's. The place is nice and the night I went there, there was live jazz which I though was good. The waiters are very polite and efficient but the menu is uninspiring. In brief, it serves sandwiches and grilled stuff. The fish I ordered was almost unseasoned but was grilled perfectly. Not bad but not great either. A little bit pricy....

Houstons kind of reminds me of Clyde's, except that i've never had a bad meal at Houstons, and i've never had a good one at Clyde's. The food at Houstons is well worth the trek to Bethesda (I know bethesda isn't THAT far, but for us District Snobs it certainly ain't a stones throw away). I agree with Betsy that Houstons excels at what they do--they know what they are, they aren't trying to be anything different, and they kickass at it. There are only two places in the DC area that I have been to where I have had ribs that I was not disappointed with: Red Hot and Blue, and Houstons--and frankly, the atmosphere at Houstons is far more my style than the hokie RHB environment. I seem to recall having really good mac and cheese at Houstons, simply serving mac and cheese as a side makes them kickass in my book. And I do think that I've had a burger there as well, but can't recall. Sounds like it's time for another trip to Houstons....thinking of those ribs has me salivatin' already!

I've been eating at Houston's for many years. The food and the service are always excellent. The seafood in particular is very fresh. The veggies change and are fresh and well prepared. The servers will do anything within reason to make sure you have a nice time.

*grins* If Betsy says that people look at her funny when she says that Houston's is one of her favorite restaurants, one can only imagine the looks I get when I say the same--I don't eat red meat. Despite that, I love Houston's for the one entree on their menu that I eat: their homemade (or, well, in-house restaurant made) veggie burgers, which are, by far, the best I've had, period. If you are a vegetarian or are dining with a vegetarian, and you (or your friend) doesn't mind being around people eating meat, their veggie burgers are utterly scrumptious with a brown rice, beans, oat bran, purple beet (and probably some other stuff) base. The fries are also delicious. The menu is small, even for non-vegetarians, but my meat-eating friends have all been complimentary about what they've ordered, from a simple cheeseburger to the filet mignon I only have two quibbles. First, the cost of parking in their lot is obscene. They charge $5 for self-serve at times, at other times, it's $10 for valet parking. But either way, across the street is a public parking garage. For a dollar or two, you'll be all set. Why anyone would pay $5 for the privilege of parking in the Houston's lot is beyond me. Second, the lighting is usually too dim in Houston's. It's one thing to try to set up an intimate atmosphere, it's another to feel like I'm eating in a restaurant that is trying to cut back on it's electric bill.

I love Houstons. The amazing pork chop has returned to the menu at the Bethesda location, which is long overdue. (well, maybe it has been there for awhile, but I haven't been there in years) Houstons is equally appropriate for a date or a business meeting - the Bethesda location gets a bit more full than the Rockville location, so expect a wait. (although, strangely, the opposite seems to be true on valentines day?) Sierra Nevada is the beer you should be drinking while your'e here. Sierra tastes better at Houstons than anywhere else. I don't know why. The valet parking is extremely useful as to not have to deal with the nonsense garage situations nearby. Use it! The veggie burger is the best veggie burger I've ever had. Woot!

I loved Houstons and Woodmont Grill is very close to it except they changed their options a bit. I always order the barbeque ribs and substitute the fries and coleslaw with a baked potato and beans and rice. Now since they are no longer Houstons you have to subsitute your fries and coleslaw for only a baked potato and order a side of rice and beans. Is it not enough what I am paying for the meal to sub 2 sides for 2 sides? The salads are now smaller in size but still great! The walnut cobbler is my favorite dessert and the Tortilla soup is another favorite. I just wish they hadn't limited me to subsitutions. I loved the old Houstons. I use to dine there frequently and probably won't now because of their limitations.

I've had people look at me funny when I say that Houston's is one of my favorite restaurants (the same look people gave me when I said I loved Red Robin's ... come on, they have a full list of gourmet burgers that you can substitute a Boca patty with!) but hear me out. Houston's may be a corporate-owned chain, and it may resemble every American restaurant with dark wood and low-lighting, but this place quite simply excels at what they do. The menu is limited and according to my fiance, hasn't changed much since he and his family started going there a decade ago. But everything on the menu is done perfectly. The buns of the burgers and sandwiches are perfectly toasted and buttered. The fries are delicious. They make their own veggie patty, colored with beet juice to look just like ground beef and it is so good that rabid meat eaters have ordered it despite plenty of meaty options on the menu. The service is also impeccable. If there is ever anything wrong with your food, the staff will do everything they can to make it right, and we have never made even a slightly negative comment about the food without the manager coming over to hear our concerns. I poohed-poohed this place before I started coming regularly, but through consistent presentation of high quality food and service, Houston's has earned my respect and my five stars without question.

Overall I am giving this place just an okay rating. I ordered the Rutherford Rib-Eye which was cooked perfectly except it did not have much flavor. The loaded baked potato was pretty damn good though. My friend ordered the tuna salad, which seemed to me to be the better choice based on flavor and price. Also had the spinach artichoke dip for an appetizer, which was typical nothing special, may have had a little too much oil in it. I would probably go back here but I definitely won't miss it.

Good food at decent prices amidst an upscale decor is always something you can depend on at Houstons. EVERYTHING on the menu is yummy and the salads are spectacular. Houstons excels at NOT offering a tome of menu items and focuses on a selection of dishes that are prepared to perfection or to order. Service is outstanding and they refill your soda and H20 before it gets to ice dilution point of watered-down soda. I'm dinging a star though NOT because they don't take reservations, but because of the incident when my friend Chrissy and I went to eat there for dinner last night. We expected a wait (which is usual for dinner) and were told 25 minutes. We stood RIGHT NEXT to the host who kept the list of names and went around calling them out to people waiting in the bar section. They didn't bother using a microphone to call people nor use buzzers, which is a NO NO when you know it's so loud that you can't even hear her when she's standing right beside you (no really) and calling your name. Needless to say, they gave away our table and we waited an additional 5-7 minutes for another one. When you know the restaurant (which is also family friendly) gets that boisterous and loud because of the confined bar/waiting area, you need to be proactive and use buzzers or the microphone. Especially when the temperature is 17 degrees and no one sane will stand and wait ouside. Another idea is stand on a 3-ft step stool and shout "TABLE READY, TABLE READY FOR GERI!!!!"

********UPDATE*********** Since Houston's has closed i have been going to Woodmont Grill. I'm very sad that they no longer serve Seared Scallops, which was my FAV dish on the menu. For that I give them 4 stars now. The food is exactly how it's marketed: contemporary, clean, American dishes. Nothing too fancy, but always reliable. I come to Houston's when I am in need of seared scallops and Hawaiian ribeye. The scallop dish has changed a bit in the past year. The seared scallops used to come as a light salad in a vinegrette. Now the scallops come in a white bean sauce with some greens. I like both versions, but I always get the white bean sauce on the side. I like my seared scallops a little lighter and not drenched in the sauce. But I must say that I do enjoy the sauce and end up eating it all. As for the Hawaiian ribeye....one of my fav steaks. The marinade is a tangy sweet that goes well with the rich fatty ribeye. My boyfriend always gets the prime rib and has been coming here for years. This is his favorite restaurant. The baked potato is just about the most perfect baked potato with everything on it. We also always get the smoked salmon appetizer and the spinach and artichoke dip. The flavor of the smoked salmon is awesome as it is served with crispy toast and a tarter sauce. I do however wish it were served a bit warmer as the salmon is usually served lukewarm (and not because it was a mistake because I've had this dish 30+ times). If I'm not in the mood for scallops or a ribeye, I do also like the Jungle Thai salad with steak. The combination is excellent as I love ALL the incredients in that salad. The desserts here are good but nothing spectacular. Usually I don't have room for desserts by the time I am at the end of my meal. The service is very good as the servers all help each other out and are very attentive. If you need something, you can always count on another server bringing it to you. The restaurant is very classy and clean. This is just one of those restaurants that you can always get a grab meal.

For a long time, Woodmont Grill was my favorite place to get contemporary American food. Not Anymore. In the past few years, their quality has dropped dramatically. Their service, as always is mediocre, and usually quite cold and impersonable. But now, their food has become worse too. Their chicken salad (my old favorite), has been changed, and now they won't bring you extra sauce, even if you ask. The burger is good, but the thing that put this restaurant away from me for a long time was this. I'm on a new, special diet, where on some days, all you can eat is protein. So no veggies, or sauces. So I decided to come down and get their filet. What they brought me, was the smallest piece of meat I had ever seen. It was so small, you probably could have fit two in the palm of your hand. When I asked the waitress, she told me, that it was the same as always (Even though two months ago, it was considerably larger). A "10-oz." So, I said "Ok." Paid the bill, and left. The way they have started to cut corners has become extremely irritating, and I will no longer frequent this place. Sad.

What do you do when you have a great, successful restaurant? You change it of course! Houston's would get five stars from me. I used to eat there once a week. Went to the newly named (newly priced) place called Woodmont Grill and will never be back. Prices skyrocketed. They put in some stupid piano that only takes up space in the bar (as far as I could see the only use the piano was getting was as a table for drinks). Great menu items like the fresh fish sandwich gone in favor of some fried grouper nonsense. And the service which used to be impeccable was terrible and it took over an hour to get our food. Come back Houston's...I miss you.

We made reservations for three and dined on a Wednesday evening. $12 for a house salad of chopped mixed greens, three cherry tomatoes, bacon bits-type topping, a few other chopped bits, croutons and a small slice of cheese toast with an undisrtinguished dressing. An expensive serving of little interest and less nutritional value. A $7 shallow bowl of onion soup added only a bit of melted cheese for interest, and there is only one soup choice per night. Filet was fine and correctly cooked. We asked to substitute spinach for the potato, it was wilted with a sprinkle with rough-grated cheese. It tasted like wilted spinach; no garlic or splash of a good vinegar or such to sparkle the taste buds. The (possibly farmed) salmon was a larger portion cooked appropriately and plainly with the same spinach as the regular side. For the price, I found it simply adequate. Fried shrimp were large, lightly battered, bland, and accompanied by cole slaw. The entrees were delivered as we were still eating our starters, causing us to need to shuffle plates decide if the food was worth lingering over. A traditional jazz combo played standards (as we entered it was the theme from Charlie Brown), The server was young and cheerful. All in all, we did not find it worth a trip back. For a similar price, there is much more playful, and even good, food around.

I went for a late/late brunch this past weekend (ok, it was really linner!) I thought that the atmosphere of the place was great, I could see that on a busy dinner service it would be a really fun and upbeat restaurant for a night out on the town. My experience though was merely passable. Food was fine, the drinks were ok, and the service was so/so. Just a cautionary note, if your going for brunch, they don't have one... but the French Dip was very good. I wasn't impressed with the fries; a variety of shoestring(overall not good and salty). We did opt for classic brunch cocktails even though no eggs or pancakes were in sight, the Bloody Mary was sweet and not served on ice and a Mimosa was fresh squeezed OJ, a little bubbly served ON ice! I do give them props for the "fresh squeezed" aspect of the drink, but honestly even then, who wants pulp in your Mimosa? As far as not having brunch I can't fault anyone except myself, shoulda done my research. Overall a decent experience, but still just an upscale version of Friday's or Applebee's.

One word to describe Woodmont Grill...CLASSY! This restaurant is the perfect date spot, sure it can be pretty pricey, but I've been to pricier, but you can overlook that because it's extremely sexy! The lights are dim throughout, a live jazz band performs nightly and the menu is very "grown up!" No chicken fingers here. This definitely isn't a place to bring your children, although I did hear a screaming child towards the end of our dinner. It's a really sophisticated restaurant that's focused on adult clientele. Woodmont could really be a place to come to as a retreat from your children. We had 7:30 reservations on a busy holiday weekend. We arrived on time but ended up having to wait an additional 15-20 minutes to be seated. For the inconvenience, we were offered a free appetizer or dessert to be shared. Awesome customer service! We ended up ordering the cornbread, but with some confusion that occurred during our order, we also received the focaccia/cornbread plate. OMG! The focaccia and cornbread were so delicious! If you know me, you know I love good bread and these two breads were wonderful! For my main course, I ordered the Hawaiian Rib Eye with a loaded baked potato and a side of tabbouleh. Exquisite!! Everything was truly delicious! My steak was cooked to perfection and had a subtle note of sweetness. It literally melted in my mouth. The tabbouleh was really tasty too. Everyone at the table enjoyed their food and none of us were able to finish our meals because the portion sizes were pretty hearty. Our server, Erin, was such a sweet young lady. Completely professional and held several conversations with us. She was a bit forgetful with some items we requested, but she was also extremely busy, so we didn't hold it against her. This was my first time here, but it most certainly won't be the last time. I was really impressed with the food, ambiance and superb service. PS Erin told us about a hot fudge sundae they serve with a gravy boat filled up with hot fudge sauce! Whaaaat??? Who does that? Clearly I'll be back for that little taste of heaven in the very near future!

The Cowboy Fried Oysters. Niiiiiice. My bro and I shared 3 orders, some wine and I was full. He (also, greedy, lol) had a ribeye - which I pinched off of and that was good too. The ambiance and service are excellent.

HAWAIIAN RIBEYE STEAK. Nothing else matters. I was reluctant at first because i consider myself a low-maintenance girl when it comes to marinades and condiments (all a good steak should need is a dash of salt & pepper!), but OH. MY. GAWD. You have to try this steak. The flavor bursts across your tastebuds like a confetti explosion at a carnival! It will change the way you think about steak and Hawaii (do i need to go there just to go on a steak-eating tour???) The service was good and blahblahblah WHO CARES!! Hawaiian ribeye steak!!!!!!

Eh. It was alright. The ambiance was nice. They had a jazz trio playing some smooth tunes by the entrance. A 1.5 hour wait. The large fancy crowd. The prices of the dishes($$$). The reviews it received, and the overall rating of 4 stars. The food presentation... I expected so much more! I always tell myself not to have too high a expectation in life, I failed to heed my own words. my expectation may have ruined it. After all that, the food was aiite. I went with my wife, her mom and sister. We ordered the soup of the day, prime rib, rotisserie chicken, and salmon. Soup of the day: Clam chowder... It tasted like paste with chunks of potatoes, clams, bacon and stuff. I know you're thinking: "it probably had the flavor of the clam, surely the bacon was salty and flavored the soup"... NO. It was literally paste with bits and pieces of stuff. Let me try and help you understand this visually... Imagine walking down a boring avenue with not much to look at, and every once in a while in the distance you see a good looking guy or a pretty girl, or a nice car, or something that piques your interest, but as you get closer, the girl isn't very pretty, the car isn't so nice, your piqued interested is a disappointment... Just bland and boring. Prime Rib: I've had better. This was bland as well, better than the soup, but pretty bland for a medium rare bloody juicy red meat. How do you water down horseradish sauce? It didn't have the bold, spicy, make you cry flavor. Rotisserie Chicken: Second best plate we had. Chicken was very juicy and well prepared. The side of couscous was tangy lemony goodness, very nice. I would recommend this plate. Salmon with a side of spinach, and mashed potatoes: Best plate! Try this! If the wait isn't long next time, I'd come back for this plate. Thing I DID like...Large portions! Overall, sadly disappointed.

Stopped in here with a work colleague for a late lunch - around 1:30 pm - 2:00 pm timeframe. We sat at the bar. Ordered a California burger, medium - with no bun but kept the fries and a glass of water with lime. Food was tasty - I enjoyed the fan of avocado on the burger and the burger was cooked perfectly! Service was good. There is no WiFi network at the restaurant - and cell service on the AT&T network in the restaurant is really poor - one bar. I'd eat here again!

Woodmont Grill is a branch of the Houston's restaurant. The food is similar to the Hillstone. I was really excited to try something different because my experience at the Hillstone was nothing short of extraordinary. My colleague and I came for lunch and we ordered: Appetizer: Spinach dip! which is a must try because there are giant pieces of artichokes in them. Main course: Thai salad with filet mignon. I think this is the fanciest salad I've ever devoured. There were tender pieces of meat, fresh greens, and a great Thai dressing. It was so filling! Desert: our waitress convinced us to try the key lime pie. The pie was light, airy, and amazing. Let's just say I left the Woodmont grill with a huge food baby...so worth it!

Seriously. Top 5 ever. Yes that good- I've been coming here for over 10 years but they still manage to impress. I had a reservation for 9 tonight. At 9:05 the manager comes over to me, apologizes for us waiting then offers us a free app. 5 minutes later we get seated. That's what you call giving a f. Amazing service! After devouring one of my favorite steaks, yes the Hawaiian I look up and my two houstans newbies have cleaned their plate. Soup, specials, steak, fish, burger desserts, apps- I've literally never had a bad meal here. My friends come from near and far and ask me where to go. Once they go they always come back. Thanks for keeping me in favor with my peoples. Probably the dumbest thing I've been asked here is how's your food? Totally normal for other places but really a softball here. Also they're confident enough in their cookery not to ask you to slice the steak in front of them to make sure they got the temp right (personal peeve). Mf smack yo mamma good. Where's that drool emoticon?

This has always been a favorite, however over the last couple of years the service has declined. I guess that's why they keep the help wanted sign at the hostess booth. Today was the icing on the cake for me. My girlfriend and I went for lunch and had a table outside, only for them to allow this gentleman to bring his monster size dog to his table which was just a few feet from our table. That's not it, since the staff couldn't find the dog water bowl, they brought out a kitchen bowl. They even slowed the gentleman to feed the dog with the same palates we humans use. Totally nasty!! I mean even the staff were petting the damn dog, which is totally inappropriate in food service. I'm sure this isn't the first time and it ruined our $60 lunch. I've been going to Houston's for over 20 years and today was my last day. I'm posting pics for proof.

I mean it is Bandera in Bethesda. Or Houston's. Never a huge fan of chains, but they do what they do very, very well. Music is nice, I could have been home in LA was the vibe. The crab cakes were lumpy and yummy if not the most flavorful, the kale salad done right and nice and light, the char was not bad not brilliant, but all told we had a marvelous time. Service was wonderful and drinks made perfectly. I likes! I am very happy here, it is not 5 star to me but for the area it really is comparatively.

Great experience! The man and I came here for an early Valentine's dinner. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. I got the Hawaiian ribeye and bf got prime rib. Both were delicious, though both cuts of meat were a bit fatty/gristly. I get this with prime rib, but the rib eye should've been a little leaner. The baked potato that came with my meal was fab! Ambiance/atmosphere was very adult and enjoyable. This place is pricey, but great for a special occasion.

I've been eating at Hillstone's restaurants since 1991 and it's always on point. Especially the Houston's in Atlanta. I raised both of my children on their Artichoke Spinach Dip and Chicken Fingers LOL. 5 stars for Victoria, as our server was on point!!! From the moment she came to our table for her introduction, her personality and table persona was inviting. We were quick with our choice for the bottle of wine and appetizer, so that made the process an easy flow. We ordered the Smoked Salmon and a bottle of Vina Cobos, and she returned so quickly from putting our order in with the wine and was out the gate. Victoria presented the bottle, asked who wanted to taste while she opened & poured all simultaneously, as a great server should. Very good Malbec too boot. As usual the Smoked Salmon was smoked to perfection, and since I don't eat the Tarragon Aioli that comes with it, Victoria was kind enough to bring out a small concoction of the House Vinaigrette and fresh limes, which parried perfectly with the Smoked Salmon. It took us about a half hour to order as we were in chill mode listening to the live music and enjoying the ambience. Victoria was going with our flow checking on us periodically until we were ready to order. Once we were ready to ordered, I opted for the Pan Seared Tuna with braised cabbage and the Emerald Kale Salad...where do I begin?! The Ahi Tuna was seared to perfection, and the Ponzu was a very good condiment, even though I requested a side of their sweet soy glaze the salad was fresh and seasoned perfectly and was very happy they made it without the cheese. My friend ordered the Prime Rib that came with mash potatoes and seasonal green veggies and he was well satisfied. We passed on Dessert and really enjoy our good meal and even better service! You can never go wrong with any of the HS's eateries, they always seemed to hit the mark. Definitely will request Victoria the next time I make reservations, as for me, great service makes the food taste even better!

My all time favorite place to dine! I have been coming here ever since it used to be called Houston's. The spin dip is a must have starter! Anything else on the menu is heavenly. You must make room for the 5 nut brownie sundae dessert. So don't eat your entreé until the last bite, though it will be hard not to. The ambiance is exquisite and everyone, I mean everyone, is at your service! Enjoy dining on any night or day! It will be a treat.

I love this chain of restaurants. Matter of fact if you read my Palm Beach Grill review you'll find it's possibly our favorite restaurant. Woodmont Grill misses the mark slightly. First of all the food is great. Possibly slightly better pulled off at PBG. I had the prime rib and the wife had the salmon, also shared the house salad. The drinks are poured fuller at PBG for sure. I guess really the only difference is the service. For example our waiter who was good...didn't know why we asked for black napkins...even though he admitted others had asked, and after I explained he understood why. Just shows that a little training would help. Again...small things but if you have a chain of restaurants Hillstone...some are just going to be better than others. I definitely recommend coming here. You will get a very high quality meal with good service. Order a couple Crisp...err Left Banks and enjoy!!

I originally planned to give Woodmont Grill four stars because I loved eating their prime rib here during lunch time, but guess what! They took out their prime rib during lunch. The only steak available during lunch time now is a $44 TINY prime center cut filet. And when I say TINY... I mean TEENIE TINY. Definitely not worth the $44. There were more fries than meat. For the past two years, I've been coming here for lunch to eat their steak. Their lunch portion was a perfect size and it came with bread and a side salad. They only have prime rib for dinner now (which I had to ask because I was upset and curious). But besides my steak, the rest of my families food were delicious. Barbecue Ribs.. the meat literally fell off the bone. And there was a lot of meat even though it was a lunch portion. We also ordered Focaccia and Cornbread plate, a bowl of chili, and a Pan Roasted Salmon. ALL were delicious! Definitely coming here again but for dinner next time.

Been to this place a few times now and have had mixed drinks, wine, and pretty large hunks of meat. Last week was no different. I opted for red wine and, no, I don't know how much it cost or what it was - other than tasty. I also got the prime rib, medium rare, with Brussels and red cabbage with goat cheese. Oddly, the star was the red cabbage which was cooked enough with some crisp left to it. Add the goat cheese and it was golden. The Brussels were just sautéed and meh. I guess I need to stick to roasted ones. The prime rib, while served as I wanted, was average tasting, even with the au jus. I mean, I ate the whole thing, but still. I guess I don't think to go to Woodmont Grill too much because it never wows me. The service is always great and friendly, even at the bar, but it's just an ok place for food.

Holy Hawaiian Ribeye steak Batman!! It really doesn't get much better than this. That steak is mouthwatering perfection! The marinate is a mix of sweet, soy, ginger, and pineapple. It's just to die for! Let's not forget the loaded baked potato with sour cream, chives, and shredded white cheddar. Oh, and how about the "nice little side salad" with yellow beets and goat cheese. This place is expensive, but worth it!

I would come to this place more for the dining experience than for the food. The interior is very nice and there are very large windows they actually open in the evenings - making the location seem more luxurious. The service, from what I remember, is nice and the ambiance is relaxed. I had the California burger and it was great! A little on the pricier side and I can probably get this food for a lower price. Again, you pay for the dining experience - not so much for the food.

Oh how I LOVE the Woodmont Grill! I'm ALWAYS guaranteed a solid meal. I popped-in just before they closed on a Monday and sat at the bar to have a quick bite. I was pleased to find the grilled artichokes were in-season and back on the menu. Hands down, the artichoke is my FAVORITE dish here. It's truly grilled to perfection. I also had the loaded baked potato (random food selections for dinner, but I was just in the mood to have some of my favorites)...another great choice. Service was A1, as always. I'll obviously be back soon.

This place is great for a date or a good promotion dinner or any kind of celebration. Live jazz trio every night. The food is perfect, I personally find the prime rib a bit better then the Prime Rib in DC. The dress is Bethesda casual, no t shirts or jeans, but good causal dinner attire, khakis, sport coat ect. Food - fried oysters, grilled artichokes, spinach dip- all good appetizers. Every red meat entree is good, even the Thai steak salad. have yet to try the seafood though. Cocktails are well crafted with fresh frosted glasses if your drink gets to warm. Exceptional service, and coming from the high end hospitality industry it is truly top notch, not The Palm good, but is anyone that good, I think not. The place is great and a great Gem in Bethesda, go and be amazed!

We dined here for Valentines day last year, and I've neglected to review. That is no reflection of the quality because we had a nice date and would gladly recommend it. The filet is cooked to perfection, a very tasty and worthwhile take on a classic. At the time they also offered seared scallops which were delicious, as well. I never tire of delicious scallops. Very fresh tasting. The atmosphere is another plus. If you come for an occassion, you won't be disappointed. Dim lighting, expertly placed mirrors, etc. They do the classic steakhouse thing well. I'm guessing crowds are reasonably sized most nights, but if you're coming on a special occasion, I can't stress this enough: make a reservation. Thankfully I did think ahead because they were quoting walk-ins with a 1.5 hr wait. Ouch. They were very organized with handling the huge crowd, major kudos for that. We were seated and on our way efficiently, and no one seemed to be stressing, which was a major plus.

We've been dining here for over 15 years. Very consistent. We always know the quality of food and level of service before walking through the door. It hardly deviates and that's why we keep coming back. Also get a double kale salad with chicken tenders on top.

My eight-year-old son wanted prime rib for his birthday (I know)! Chose this place because of the reviews and it was a spectacular experience. Worth the drive from VA. Too upscale to be a child friendly restaurant but my son is usually good in restaurants so it wasn't a problem for us, and we did see some families with young children - all quiet and very well behaved. The food is spectacular, the service is excellent. My mouth still waters 6 months later when I think of the Kale side dish.

I've haven't been to too many steakhouses - mainly because every time I go to one, I leave feeling underwhelmed by the food. It might have been the people we were dining with, but I really enjoyed my dinner at Woodmont. It's a classy joint, but doesn't feel stuffy in any sense of the word. Oh and the food here is insane. Their portions are HUGE and the quality of the meat is amazing. My BF had the Hawaiian rib-eye while I had the prime rib, and both were fantastic.

Just arrived at Woodmont Grill and the ambiance is dark but, very nice. Our server "Chris" is very knowledgeable and helpful with the menu selections. I ordered the artichoke and spinach dip and it arrived beautifully plated with pico de gallo and sour cream. Shortly thereafter our entrees arrived and once again the plating did not disappoint. I had the Hawaiian ribeye and it was perfectly prepared...medium well and delicious. As you can see from the picture I also tried the salmon...not my entree...but hey let's share...lol. It was flakey and delicious. The tartar sauce must have been house made and I so want to ask for the recipe! Dare I ask?... I did and they said, "No"...politely. They did direct me to the web. I understand, I wouldn't want to tell either. Back to the review. The service was outstanding but, I recommend making a reservation on Friday! So grab a date and take her/him to Woodmont Grill...Formally Houston's. You will not be disappointed!

Houston's (renamed to Woodmont Grill) has been my FAVORITE restaurant for over TWENTY (20) years! This restaurant has ALWAYS been consistent with respect to service and quality of food. I have celebrated numerous birthdays, anniversaries, girls night outs, and lunches at Houston's! My favorite meals include, for starters: SPINACH AND ARTICHOKE Dip (ALL TIME FAVORITE!) Cheese toast (no longer available for order-BUMMER!!) Baked potato soup Tortilla soul Kale salad Entrees: Ribs Chicken tenders (not on the menu but they still offer it to us regulars!) Club salad Hickory burger (when I used to consume ground beef) Crab cakes Sides: BRUSSEL SPROUTS (to DIE for when in season/on the menu) Baked beans Kale salad Sautéed spinach LOADED BAKED POTATO Broccoli Dessert: Five nut brownie Apple walnut cobbler They also make an amazing French kiss martini, and lemon drop martini! Their mojitos are pretty good too :) I've never had anything on the menu in didn't love!!! Enjoy!!!

Stepped I'm on a Saturday night with the misses. Jam packed with an hour plus wait but got a spot at the bar. Drinks and spinach/artichoke dip was tasty. After a wait, we got seated. I had the Cajun Salmon with spinach and mashed potatoes. Salmon was cooked perfectly but needed just a bit more seasoning. Spinach and potatoes were tasty. The apple cobbler for dessert did not disapooint. All in all a positive experience until I got t u e bill. Lol.......

Great customer service! My waitress was very attentive and helped a lot with choosing an entree. And the live band sounded like a perfectly mastered jazz cd! Awesome! But you still have to feed me and that's where it went downhill. We had the fried oysters, house salad, and corn bread for our appetizers. The oysters were really good and paired well with the capers. The corn bread was ok ( I'm not a fan of corn bread). And a salad is a salad. For my entree, I had the Rutherford prime rib with sautéed spinach. Out comes a piping hot bone in steak and it smells great. But for $45, I expected more seasoning than cracked black pepper and sea salt. It was nothing but grilled meat devoid of flavor. Woodmont Grill (The sign still says Houston's!) looks and feels really nice. But fancy decor, smooth music, and dim lighting won't overshadow mediocre food. This place is not worth the cost of admission.

So, admittedly, it was 3pm in the afternoon. Let's start there. It's a bit of an "off" hour for any resturant. Seeing that it was ex-Houstons (still Houstons?) had me very excited, especially since some of the items were Houston-ish. The server was wonderful - attentive, smiling and friendly. HOWEVER, everything was just not quite what I expected. The veggie burger was tasty but mushy - fell apart and just didn't look quite cooked. The app spinach dip was, again, tasty, but came just barely warm. Fries were awesome - not necessarily the most healthy part of the meal. I'm not sure if they don't know who they are, or i just wasn't there at the right time, but either way, not quite up to my expectations.

Woodmont Grill (formerly known as Houston's) was my all time favorite restaurant when I was growing up in DC. Whenever my sister and I were asked by our mom where we wanted to go for birthdays, graduations, promotions, and any other special occasion to celebrate - it was ALWAYS Houston's - we would frequent the location in Georgetown and everyone seemed to know us (my mom). Our mom passed in 2007 but my sister and I still frequent the Woodmont Grill. Of course with my birthday on a Sunday (Feb 2nd) we thought "What better place to go - right after church". Woodmont grill NEVER disappoints! Food is always delicious and the staff is ALWAYS eager to assist and make sure that everything is to your liking. I absolutely love this place! No matter how full we are my sister MUST order the warm brownie. Looking forward to many more years of celebrating with the Woodmont Grill.

I think the fact that I know this used to be Houstons and then Hillstone (the ownership group that still operates this restaurant) changed the name to be more "local" really annoys me. Houstons was local, but whatever I am done with my rant. This spot is a Bethesda institution and that hasn't changed in the last 20 years. The food is always good and worth it despite being a little pricey. The service is always great because they hire the best and brightest into their management trainee program. Overall I will always like this restaurant and I admit Hillstone is a great operator. If you walk in a face a long wait, you can across the street to blacks or wait for Woodmont...I would wait.

Just great Dinner! It was cooked perfect and was served as ordered. The Crab cake melts in your mouth. The Summer succotash is like no other in the area. With Corn, Black eye peas, Lima Beans, and other fresh cut veggies. It just was a great meal. The Norwegian Cod was also great it was so Flaky and cooked great. I love Seafood and this was cooked perfect. Like the old saying you you pay for good quality. So don't go here expecting to eat great food and a cheap eats. It's worth the extra cost for the great service and food.

I had one of the best meals of my life here. I'm sort of a late bloomer and hadn't tried prime rib (despite being a dry aged steak connoisseur) until a recent visit here and it was extremely life-changing. I ordered their famous prime rib with a side of loaded baked potato. The prime rib was cooked to medium rare perfection (not too much fat) and came with mild horseradish sauce and au jus. The baked potato was topped with butter, sour cream, grated white cheddar cheese, scallions, and bacon. Everything was executed well and I would not hesitate to request this same exact meal for any celebration. I've had their ribeye and that was superb, but prime rib is definitely my preference. I would've given this establishment 5 stars, but found the service to be slightly lacking. My server was actually hard to track down and when she was available, she seemed a bit condescending. There's free valet parking strictly for this establishment, which is nice. The prime rib is so good here, I'd still return, but I think I'll try it at other establishments, too, for comparison purposes.

Came here for lunch which means finding parking in Bethesda sucks. There is a small open lot parking next to the restaurant however, if it is full, then you will have to resort to street parking or the county garage right across the street. Made reservation and got seated within a minute. Since it was a beautiful day, we opt to sit outside. Our server was very attentive and yes, our water glass was never empty for less than 5 minutes. Great service. We had the spinach / artichoke dip and fried oyster. The dip is okay but the fried oyster is juicy and full of flavor. My husband does not like oyster yet he managed to eat two. That's how good it was! I had their special which is cod with rice and beans. I love my rice and BLACK beans and every time I go to a restaurant that offers it, I order it. Woodmont Grill hands down have the BEST rice and black beans in the DMV and beats all Spanish / Caribbean restaurants that I've been to. It was sweet and had this creamy / buttery texture. Absolutely delicious!

What a surprise this place was. Being from northern Virginia, I often don't visit many restaurants in Bethesda, but this eatery was great. I had the veggie burger which was tasty although it did fall apart and I had to eat it with a knife and fork. My wife ordered the tuna. She didn't like the way it was cooked so they happily prepared another to her liking. The wine list was adequate, but to my surprise they actually had one of my favorite beers--Sam Smiths Oatmeal Stout. The staff was friendly, knowledgeable and eager to please. In addition they accommodated my wheelchair even though the place was pretty crowded. It was a little tight but we made it work. The restrooms were accessible and actually had push buttons to open the doors. My only complaint is that the jazz band could be a little loud at times to where we couldn't hear ourselves talk. Otherwise, Highly recommend. Definitely deserves the 4 stars that most reviewers give it.

My favorite American food restaurant! Service: 9/10 (my water glass wasn't clean the last time I went. But it only happened once.) Food: 10/10 Ambiance: great for dates. I love when they have live music. However, they do not have table more than 6 people.

If you are in Bethesda and want an awesome steak in a place with great atmosphere, AND not break your wallet. This is the place to go. Upscale in appearance but very casual in atmosphere. Great place to spend some time after work.

Food and atmosphere were both amazing! The Hawaiian Rib eye was the best steak ever! The artichoke appetizer was also fabulous!

This is my all time favorite restaurant. I've been eating at Woodmont Grill (Houston's) since I was a kid. I love the spinach dip! Unless, you are allergic, it should be ordered upon arrival. It's basically like the water. Second, the service is phenomenal. You can't beat the attentiveness of the servers at Woodmont Grill. I get the French Dip sandwich. My husband gets the veggie burger. They are both delicious. I highly recommend this restaurant. The menu is not extensive but the food is well made! If you haven't experienced it, you are missing out!!

Well, after spending several hundred dollars for a family celebration, what a disappointment. We had to wait over 20 minutes for our drinks and when they arrived most of the ice had melted in them. Service was very slow. The restaurant seemed totally overwhelmed.

I have loved this place for as long as I can remember. The name change didn't hurt my love for the Spinach and Artichoke dip, which is my favorite appetizer. The veggie burger is the bees knees!

Even with a reservation, the wait for a table can be long and drawn out. The food is decent. Cozy atmosphere. Might return one day.

What happened to this place?? The appetizers were still good but they went cheap on the entree and dessert! I was having an awful day, damn it! I just wanted a good meal and some drinks... Started off with the salmon and dip appetizers. Both were scrumptious. Then I have in the past, ordered the hawaiian ribeye. From looking at it after I cut into it, it looked as though it was cooked exactly how I wanted. However, it was really hard and difficult to chew. One of the worst pieces of steak I've ever had. The pieces I buy at safeway are much more tender. Am I supposed to send it back in this situation? It was cooked right... the piece just sucked, lol. Think it was a one time deal? Who knows. For dessert, I was excited to try the apple cobbler. Definitely needs more apple! Must be hard times for houston's too, not just me... The biggest positive was Cathy. She was a wonderful waitress. And when I told her my alcoholic beverage was lacking alcohol (which it was...), she filled it up.

I got the Rotisserie Chicken which was amazing. It had a sweet taste to it from the apricot. The server was nice, the place was a little small. It was definitely worth every penny.

Had dual appetizers; since it was past three on a Saturday and I wasn't ready for a big dinner yet .Had the Starter Smoked Salmon and the House Salad... The Salmon was delicious... and a big piece big enough to be called an entree. They included toasted slim pieces of bread so it was truly meant to be an appetizer and they had the dip and a dipping knife. Asked my table guest whether they wanted to partake.. They declined however they couldn't resist ordering from the menu themselves as I was enjoying the house Salad with yellow beets (yummy) as we both savored the smell of the Salmon & its presentation. Had a glass of wine with it can't remember which but it was a bland rose ; won't do that again, I stick with the zinfandel's even if the server warns me they are red,,, Didn't hang around long after that quick bite.. Get your wallet out Lunch will cost you 60-75 with drinks..

So, to be fair, I'm vegan, so a steakhouse generally isn't my kind of place. A friend really loves it here so I gave it a shot, knowing that they have a veggie burger. First of all, don't come here without a reservation. Our wait was an HOUR AND A HALF for four people. I know it's a nice place and it's popular but jeez. This is BETHESDA, not Manhattan. Regardless, if you do want to come here, just make a reservation ahead of time and it won't be an issue at all. I will say the hostess was nice about it and kept us updated on our table situation while we waited at the bar. Overall, the staff is very nice. The veggie burger was.... fine, nothing impressive. Comes with a soy glaze and a side of french fries. It fell apart quite a bit and was kind of mushy, but the taste was solid. Why the low ranking overall? The veggie burger was SEVENTEEN dollars. Literally the same price as their burgers. That's *ridiculous* I wouldn't go back, but again, I know I'm not the target audience -- I mostly wanted to write this review so my fellow vegans and vegetarians know what's up if they end up here. It *is* a nice restaurant with a classy vibe, don't get me wrong, but not worth it if you're not a meat eater.

We stopped in here twice, Tuesday and Wednesday nights. Tuesday night was a three maybe a 3.5. Two of us got the prime rib am all I can say is mine was much smaller than the other. It was good, just a shame it was so small. Our server was less than adequate. CaseyJ. My drink was refilled twice because she was never around. I finally had to ask someone to refill it the second time. She should have taken better care of the guy who is paying. Now Wednesday night was a solid FIVE star night. Patricia L. was our server. She was amazing. Friendly and always with a smile. We ordered the spinach dip app both nights, Patricia brought extra chips before we ran out. Casey didn't bother on Tuesday. My glass was never empty. All of us at the table travel and Patricia went out of her way to promote other locations out of state. The food was all great on Wednesday. If it had not have been for Tuesday, I would be leaving a five star review.

Great place, reminder of the Houstons chain I have been to across the country. This ones a little more upscale, the food and especially the service are always consistent.

The beginning was great with very nice jazz band at the entrance ,we have waited for 35 minutes which is ok but I cannot understand why getting my diet coke in plastic bottle and getting in three from 4 dishes the same French frieze is exeptble when you are paying almost 100$ for 4 people,I think it's a little bit over rated!!! This is not my last time there and I am pretty sure I will visit there again !

Outstanding. Food was fresh, excellent and perfectly cooked. The dining room was well lit and beautiful. The server was attentive and crisp. And the the live jazz started which was excellent. I'm always impressed with restaurants in the Houston's group, but I was happily reminded.

This is my favorite restaurant in the Bethesda area. The only downside is that everyone else seems to love it too, so you definitely need to have a reservation if you don't want to wait a while. The service is amazing, the servers are friendly, polite and willing to answer any questions regarding drinks or menu items. I've never had to wait long for my meal, and it's always delicious. I would highly recommend the prime rib with the sautéed spinach, it's amazing.

We were seated immediately on a Saturday early evening by a friendly, gracious hostess. A server took our drink order just as quickly. We placed our food order then also. Not once did we feel ignored or rushed. The children's cheeseburger was a hit as was the veggie burger. My "side salad" was perfect. I read some other review that complained about the lack of lettuce -- um girlfriend, that high pile of leafy things under the red cabbage, croutons, cherry tomatoes, etc. is called "field greens" and it is way better than plain ol' lettuce. The tabbouleh was a meal in itself. And I don't remember the last time I raved about a side of sautéed spinach. The clincher was when a waitperson came by with a chilled glass and poured my 8 minute old Cosmo into it, removing the old glass. The only thing that could have topped this was replacing my old martini with a completely new one. But I'm realistic. Most memorable restaurant experience I've had in years (like when I dined in Paris in 1974?)

I am not going to lie to you - if you are dining here, prepare yourself for a large bill. That being said, my thoughts on my invitation to lunch this afternoon. We had a reservation for 12:15pm and despite arrive no later than 12:17pm we were still told to wait what would amount to a total of approximately 20 minutes in a pathetically small waiting area with no where to stand and was spitting distance of the front door. The veggie burger came so highly reccomended that - sticking to my quasi-vegetarian guns - ended up choosing this. The bad: the french fries were more like potato crisps, sliced woefully small until they were just crispy. Additionally there was not even the scarcest indication of salt for season on the fires. Not that they needed to be salty, but this "artistic" take on the fries I did not like. Nor was I too happy about the choice of a French's American yellow mustard to already slathered on the bun. And finally, and least important, the iceberg lettuce was shredded about as finely as the fries, and here I feel that a leafy green would have been a better choice, or perhaps more coarse chopped lettuce. The good: The buttered bun. The sesame bun is a beautiful color and large portion, but still dwarfed in comparison to the size of the patti. I am not sure if they were trying to be evocative a meat texture - for I think they nearly hit the mark - but it is the synthesis of flavours that burst upon your tongue that make this a standout dish. The tomato is juicy, onion crisp, and lettuce fresh. Together the veggie burger sings. Will definitely recommend to future patrons. Portion sizes are more than generous with everything, although there are no free refills. The ice cream brownie was piping hot, the nuts chopped coarsely and the ice cream to soothe it all down. The end of the meal felt more like the end of a Thanksgiving meal rather than an average Friday lunch Overall: the ambiance has an overarching business lunch theme to it, but it is lively without being overbearing, the portion sizes are more than generous for the money you are paying, the fudge brownie is finger licking and service was prompt and polite at the perfect level of checking in. Parking is limited, so be mindful. A high level of standard American cuisine.

Woodmont Grill serves up reliably tasty steakhouse fare. Appropriately dim lighting filters throughout the restaurant space, which is lined with rows of leather booths. The pricing of their menu items has increased in the recent months, but it's still within range for a business dinner or a significant occasion! My go-to's: + Smoked Salmon Appetizer: Imagine this... flaky smoked salmon gently resting upon a mayo-relish covered triangle toast. I could honestly eat this as an entree alone, but I'll share the wealth with my dining companions ;) This is good for a table of 4, which will allow for about 2-3 triangle toasts per person. + Rutherford Rib-eye: This hunk of meat is legit massive. I prefer to split this as an entree and get a side Caesar salad to add variety. It comes with one side - their seasonal vegetable is usually great, or their braised red cabbage with goat cheese is surprisingly addicting. The only minor negative issue that I've experienced in my past couple visits is that the wait time estimate is not very accurate. "15 more minutes" usually turns into a 30-45 minute additional wait, even with reservations. *Note, the largest party they seem to be able to accommodate in one table is about 8, depending on the size of the individuals in your party. You'll be sitting in a semi-circle booth, so there'll be quite a bit of shuffling around when it comes to restroom trips! If there's more than 8 in your party, expect to be split up between two tables.

I really enjoyed The Woodmont Grill! Like seriously. My experience could not have been better. The food was delicious, the waiter was one of the most handsome men I've ever seen (and he was very tall), and everything was just perfect! The bar area was lively and cute, and the dining area was really nice, as well. For the first time in a very long while, my silverware was extremely clean and I did not have to ask for a glass of hot water or anything. Fabulous! I really can't give enough kudos to this place. Just a pointer, though...when you arrive, don't expect to see "Woodmont Grill" written anywhere. It still says "Houston's" so I rode past it a few times before parking.

My last visit here was last Saturday (9/20/2014). I used to go to the Houston's in Rockville for many years until it closed down, so now I come here. I have always been impressed with the service and the atmosphere, which is why I don't have an issue with the prices. A few things that bother me with this establishment. At Houston's you could get soup and salad for a reduced price, but here they are separate at full price. The caesar salad is amazing as I don't like the creamy stuff, but I was a little bothered that the lettuce is no longer shredded, so I have to now cut up the lettuce. Also, the chili is still really good, but it's more on the soupy side which makes it drip more. We did something different and sat outside, which I won't do again. We had problems with bees and stuff falling from the trees. The lemonade isn't really sweet, so you have to add plenty of sugar to it, but at least it has free refills. I wasn't thrilled to find that there are no longer refills on soda as they come in bottles now. At $3 per bottle, it isn't really worth it, but they do have bigger bottles now. I am a huge fan of their baked potato, it is delicious. I was disappointed to hear that it's now a premium side, which means it counts as two sides, but oh well. I have had various things on the menu, including steak, crab cakes, roasted chicken, burgers, and I have never been disappointed until now. I used to get the chicken tenders, which are lovely, but this time they were a bit more greasy and undercooked, so I think I'll pass on them from now on. One thing that is very bothersome to me and I am contemplating contacting corporate regarding the issue....the brownie. Oh my gosh, this is hands down the BEST brownie I have ever tasted in my life. The problem you ask? It is now a seasonal item. I went there for lunch in May with friends from out of town because I raved about the brownie and they are dessert fanatics too. Well, when we got there, we found that it wasn't on the menu. We were told that corporate has decided to make it a seasonal item and it would be back around September. Soooo disappointed because my friends will probably never have the pleasure of tasting it. I will mention the service again, because it really is amazing. I have huge issues with empty plates sitting around a table after eating and they do a fantastic job with clearing the table, no matter who your server is. It's still one of my favorite locations to eat. I won't complain about the parking because, well it's Bethesda and what does one expect.

This is my favorite restaurant in Bethesda... I love it so much that I'm a Yelp check-in regular (and sometimes the Duchess) despite living 3000 miles away! If you're by yourself. eat at the bar; the chairs are comfortable, the live jazz is closer, and the staff will go out of their way to be chatty if they gather that you're a little lonely. I love the way they stake out your dining turf on the bar with a cloth-napkin tablecloth. Bring the crowd and sit in the restaurant... you will be served well there, too, and your work colleagues will be pleased or even impressed. Steaks, salads, baby-back ribs... all excellent. And I've had two of the best pork chops of my life here at the Grill... OMFSM, soooo perfect. Tender, succulent, and perfectly cooked in every way, I literally ran out of ways to say Best.Pork.Chop.Ever... and if you knew me, you'd know that over my past two gluten-free years, pork chops have become one of the yardsticks by which I judge restaurants. Drinks are generous and not overpriced. I loved that the bartender didn't make fun of me for switching from rum and Diet Coke to just Diet Coke, and she asked if I wanted a fresh glass or if I'd like the rum glass for the little taste that might be left. Those little considerate gestures elevate the staff from "competent" to "professional" in my book. Make a reservation if you're coming at a busy time, but once you're seated, you won't feel crowded or rushed. Enjoy your meal, and say hi if you see me.

WOW. Absolutely perfectly done steak-- my fellow yelpers did not steer me wrong about the Hawaiian ribeye. Pink all the way through just the way I wanted it. The baked potato on the side was enormous and delicious. My boyfriend ordered the same and enjoyed his immensely. I also started with their special tomato and burrata cheese appetizer. If it's available, order it. Some of the freshest, sweetest tomatoes I have ever tasted. My grandmother ordered the prime rib which she raved about, and my grandfather got the po boy sandwich that he enjoyed. Not only was the food excellent, but the service was impeccable. We had a very attentive server who was very sweet and helpful. She carefully packed up everything that my grandparents wanted to take home. She was very polite and patient with my grandfather who is hard of hearing. I never felt rushed. The high prices are completely worth it. You should go expecting to spend a lot, but you will be more than satisfied. An excellent meal, excellent service, and a beautiful, attractive atmosphere. I would absolutely come here again.

Been coming to this restaurant for a while now and the service and food have always been spectacular. Their Hawaiian ribeye, Bbq ribs and prime rib are all superb. Price is reasonable for a steakhouse. The live band and environment are also nice. Make sure to have reservations though.

Been to this place a couple times. I think it used to be a Houston's. Not sure if it's just a name change with the same menu or if this is a totally different place. The menu is similar though. Anyway, I've always come here in a group so was able to try a few items. I've had the fried oysters and the salmon. Both were good, and I don't even normally like oysters. A friend of mine, who also doesn't like oysters, gave it a try and thought they were pretty good as well. For entrees, I got the Ding's crispy chicken sandwich. Some people got burgers and someone got the Thai noodle salad. I thought the Thai noodle salad was salty. So it was just eh for me. The burgers were very good, but the Ding's chicken sandwich....man!! So good. I love this sandwich. It's basically a thin piece os crispy chicken with kale salad and tomatoes, I believe. I think the kale salad is what makes this sandwich so good. Definitely a must have. The tkmes I've come here, that's all I will order. Plus, the portions are big for that sandwich. Man, I get hungry just thinking about it. The servers were pretty good. Nice and always kept an eye out for our drinks getting low. It gets pretty full (at lunch time at least, which is the only times I've been there) so we usually try to come at slightly off hours.

This is my favorite restaurant. I have never had a bad experience at Houstons ( Woodmont Grill) . You can't go wrong with Spinach Dip for appetizer the best I've ever experienced. The Hawaiian Rib eye is just magnificent. Since I have been going here since I was a kid the chicken tenders are Heaven Sent lol. By far the best food and service experience you can ask for!!

Really good! I had the evening special, cod, and it was perfectly cooked, not overdone. Red bean Cajun soup as an appetizer was great, and Brownie for dessert, YUM! Best was the Jumilla Spanish wine, a deal at only $25 per bottle. Ambience was warm, not too much noise, Jazz in the background, not too loud. Excellent service. Really recommend this place. High marks!

The best place for spinach dip! When it was called Houston's I would go every week and have the spinach dip and Appel walnut cobbler. The service is cool. In the previous years I can remember a couple that always made sure my experience was superior! When I go now, I make sure I call ahead to make my reservations so that my experience is just about right.

The kale salad is exceptional. I would give that 5 stars without a doubt. Unfortunately though, I had very high hopes for the veggie burger, with all of the hype it has received. It was OK, but I wasn't blown away. As most veggie burgers go, it was tough to handle, and fell apart easily. That's fine - totally expect that in a veggie burger. The flavor didn't quite to it for me though, and I can't quite put my finger on it. I've eaten veggie burgers all over the DC area, and in my opinion, Meridian Pint in Columbia Heights has the best one. That said, Woodmont Grill has a lovely atmosphere (with live jazz), and it a great place to have dinner. There's free parking in the big garage right across the street as well! I would go again and try something different, particularly since I was so impressed by the kale salad.

If you are from the Washington Metropolitan Area, then you know this place has been on the map for years and everything on the menu speaks to you. My personal favorites are the Thai Steak Salad and the veggie burger. If you are having dessert after dinner, the apple walnut cobbler (buttery goodness) will sell out if you don't get there early. My favorite quiet Valentine's Day spot.

Woodmont Grill is a solid 5 stars for me. The service is excellent - weekday or weekend, dressed in shorts or a dress. Food quality is consistently good and the menu is updated frequently. They have this oyster Rockefeller thing which is really good, so is the prime rib, elderflower Collins, and ice cream sundae. I've actually never had anything bad there (Hawaiian ribeye is good, but I wish they had a regular ribeye). I've been to Black's across the street several times (actually dined there last night because couldn't get a reservation at WG), but if I had to pick one, it would be WG almost everytime (except if you're looking for HH deals, in which case Black's wins, absolutely).

It's always a treat when coming to Houstons (disguised as Woodmont Grill). The Hawaiian Ribeye can go up against any Ribeye at the finer more expensive restaurants. At 35.00 and it comes with a side, there is no question why there is always a line out of the door for dinner. Just a great dining experience at any price. See you soon!!

Definitely a restaurant that I would recommend to my friends and families. Service was top-notch; my server was very attentive to our needs and made sure every aspect of our dinner produced their best service and our customer satisfaction. I enjoyed the classical ambiance of the restaurant along with jazz music playing. Some of the entrees I had includes, Crab Cakes, Rib-Eye Steak, Spinach & Artichoke dip, and Five Nut Brownies. The crab cakes were really fresh and well seasoned, Steak was cooked to perfection, they serve one of the best spinach dip I've tried, and the brownie nearly melted in my mouth. Excelled past my expectations! Well run restaurant with great management!

This place is one of my family's favorite spots to dine together. Recently we came to celebrate my brother's birthday, and as usual, they didn't disappoint. The staff is always friendly, our server was excellent, and the food was delicious. There is some free parking adjacent to the restaurant, but it is minimal and the spaces are tight. The metered parking near the restaurant is one hour parking only, but there is a garage across the street. If you come on the weekend expect a very lengthy wait; this is a very popular restaurant but you won't be disappointed. The weekdays are busy, but the wait is usually not as long. So I started off with a French Martini, which was very good. For appetizer we had the spinach and artichoke dip. I had the ribs as my entree with fries and coleslaw. Their ribs are one of my all-time favorites. They fall off the bone, they are seasoned perfectly and I love sauce so I had some extra barbecue sauce on the side. But even without the extra sauce, these ribs are amazing. Needless to say, I was very happy and quite full. It appears from the plating that the portion size is small; however they have cut the slab in quarters and plated the quarters on top of one another so there's actually quite a bit of food. My brother had the prime rib (which was cooked perfectly) with a baked potato. Since the French Martini was so good and I couldn't eat another bite, I skipped dessert and had another one. My brother and niece shared the apple walnut cobbler which they said was delicious!!! Another Woodmont Grill dining experience with two thumbs up!!!

I have been coming to the Woodmont Grill for years, even when it was Houston's and the service and the food has always been the same - excellent!! I come often to have networking meetings with business colleagues; sometimes as frequently as once a month and the consistency of quality is top notch, they just don't seem to have bad days. I was their today and it just as it always is, nice front desk staff, prompt greeting and fast service but never are you rushed. In another life I worked in the hospitality industry for ten years and this is the way you run a restaurant. Thanks Woodmont Grill for helping my business meetings to go smoothly. You can't talk shop if the service is sub par, and that is and I'm sure will never be an issue. Keep up the good work!!

Same menu as the old Houston's that was in Rockville. French dip and vegan burger or fish sandwich are always my go to sandwiches for lunch. All taste great. At dinner the steaks and salads are very good and some evenings they have a jazz trio playing. And at the bar I always get fresh squeezed orange juice with vodka! This place is a through back to how dinning use to be, no gimmicks just good food and service!

I've been here a couple times before and have always gone for the Hawaiian Rib Eye. It is deliciously marinated in a pineapple and soy marinade and grilled to perfection (usually up until the last time I came here they overcooked part of my steak and it was dry!). The side of whipped potatoes are amazing and the loaded baked potatoes are huge! But if you're choosing between the two, go for the whipped potatoes, you won't regret all that perfectly whipped creamy goodness.

The prices are insulting and the food is way over-salted. Have loved Woodmont Grill since the early 1990s, when it was still Houstons in Georgetown. For years I've watched the prices creep up, but I kept coming back for classic and overall delicious American fare to please even the pickiest diner. The past three times I've been, the chef has been way ultra heavy on the salt, rendering the food too salty to enjoy. But ultimately, the prices at Woodmont Grill have become so unreasonable that they've lost me for good. If I'm going to spend $12+ on an appetizer and $24+ on an entree, I expect more than spinach dip with chips and a small salad with seared tuna. An American grill restaurant, now charging fine dining prices. Buh-bye.

$19 for French Dip. You have to be kidding. I've been a loyal Houston's/Woodmont Grill fanatic for years. It was one of my favs. But I can't do it anyone. I was so outraged by the price, that I decided to write my very first yelp review. We were sat shortly after they opened for lunch. I got a tiny diet coke (in a plastic bottle, ugh) quickly and then we were ignored for over 10 mins. We just sat there while servers walked by our table and talked to tables that arrived after us. Too bad someone didn't come sooner, because I have loved that French Dip sooo much, for so many years, that I almost talked myself into paying the ridiculous, extremely overpriced amount of $19. Finally, we said forget it, and left $5 for the diet coke (I probably didn't pay enough, considering how marked up and over priced everything was). Extremely disappointed. I've tolerated the price hikes over the years, but $19 is just beyond the pale. And the service has just gone downhill. I'm sorry to say that I will never taste my favorite sandwich ever again.

Ordered the Hawaiian Ribeye and house salad. The steak is HUGE and so flavor rich with a tangy/sweet taste. The salad really caught me off guard with how good it was, it was perfect with the steak. Both were so much better than expected. For how good the food is you would expect this place to have one of those fancy "stuffy" atmospheres, but nope! Pretty relaxed and all about food quality.

A++ for customer service. Arrived at 8, hostess said it was an hour wait. We were seated in less than 10 minutes. Houstons or woodmont grill w/e you wanna call it is great! There's parking on the side of the restaurant if you're out of luck there's a parking garage right across the street It's dim lighting, and live jazz music. I loved the artwork on the walls. Very artsy looking with an upscale vibe. I had the pan seared salmon with mash and spinach. My friend had the rib eye with mash and horse raddish dip which was sooooo good. BUT this place is on the expensive side but I enjoyed it. I recommend and I'd go again!

Came here last night with hubs because it was recommended by my coworker since she knows that I'm a food lover that like to try new places. The restaurant had a cozy feeling to it, especially for a couple first date or just you and ur boo. I made reservations for 7 pm and got there around a quarter to 7. Upon arriving we were warmly greeted my the British accent lady at the counter. She informed us that it's going to be a bit of a wait time bc there are others ahead of us that needed to be seated. Didn't have any problem with that since we arrive a tad bit early. After about 20 mins we were seated. Waiter introduced himself to us and took our order. I knew what we wanted bc I spent the time to look over their menu at work. Hubby loves steak so I suggested that he gets the Hawaiian steak bc the review was great on that partial steak. I got the roasted chicken for dinner. Hubs stated that the steak was just ok and he didn't see what the rave was about and my chicken was just ok as well. I guess we are stuck on Ruth Chris so we compare every chicken and steak dinner to theirs. Overall this place is just ok to us not bad at all

ALWAYS my first choice for lunch in Bethesda. Consistently great food and always fantastic service. Their team approach to service is seamless. I eat here sometimes twice a week and I can't ever recall having poor service. I enjoy their booth seating and the outdoor patio when weather permits. My favorite lunch is the crab cakes, their coleslaw and fries make my day. Parking is fab with a huge lot adjacent to the restaurant and a public lot across the street.

My wife and I can't get enough of Woodmont Grill. We both lived in NYC before we moved in this area, so we are quite familiar with HOUSTON's aka Woodmont Grill. We have been several times and will probably be back several more times in the future. I have never been disappointed with anything that I have ordered here. The hawaian ribeye is amazing, the grilled chicken..amazing, the grilled salmon...amazing. The desserts are sinfully delicious. This review does this place no justice, you just have to go for yourself and try it out.

I didn't want a salad tonight and decided to go with the vegetarian burger (which has had amazing reviews here on yelp.) Although I had very high hopes for the veggie burger, the burger fell short of my expectations. The burger consisted of a patty made of brown rice, black beans and oat bran recipe with glazed with sweet soy & melted Jack. It tasted overly 'smoked' to me and somehow did not go well with the sweetness of the soy glaze. I didn't get the "wow" factor after taking my first bite of the burger, nor did I feel compelled to continue eating it. In hindsight, I was disappointed with the burger and as I looked around the room at the salads other patrons had order, wished I had went with a salad instead.

Well, I think Woodmont Grill has finally jumped the shark. As others have commented on, the menu really hasn't changed much in years, and the few changes that have been made took items off the menu that my friends and I thought were some of the better dishes being offered. The food is good, but not great and certainly nothing special, and for their price point, they really should be putting out much better food than they do. Now, speaking of the price point... During my last visit, I asked for a club soda, and was told that they no longer offer club soda out of the fountain behind the bar. Instead, I was brought a miniature bottle of club soda, for $3.50 - and yes, it would be another $3.50 for every additional little bottle of club soda. Have things really gotten to the point where the bean-counters at the corporate office thought that this was a good move? The mark-up (as a percentage) was probably higher on that little bottle of club soda than the usual markup on a bottle of wine. Finally, on customer service, what I think turned me off the most during the last visit was something I've noticed the last few times I've been to the restaurant: A good number of the wait staff has become absolutely robotic. I actually asked a question of our server, at which point she just launched into the rehearsed recitation of the specials, without responding to the question. After the first sentence, I said to the person across the table to me, "Did she just ignore what I said?" - at which point, she stopped, looked quizzicaly at me, and launched right back into the details of the specials. I felt like the unwelcome guest that she was obligated to serve, and because of that, Woodmont Grill's knocked off my list of places to go.

Starting on a positive note, the staff. I ordered a burger that was slightly under cooked and I must have been visited by three people (staff that is), trying to make amends. From a customer service standpoint, way to make up for things! As far as the burger, once it was fully cooked, it was delicious, albeit a little greasy/messy. The downside...the prices. I don't believe putting a piano in the corner and offering live music justifies a $17.00 burger. The prices gave me the feeling I was in one of those chain restaurants that tries too hard...like Longhorn. If you want to compete with a chain, pick one that keeps the line out of the door because both the prices AND food are excellent, like Texas Roadhouse. Overall, the food was excellent, the service even better and I would return, if I could afford it. ;)

On May 25th,2015 my family went to Woodmont Grill for Memorial Day. We sat at 2pm and were asked to leave at 4:30pm because they had to utilize the table for another reservation. First and foremost this restaurant was not filled to capacity and had open tables. Second of all it was a party of 20, we spent almost $1,000. To sit and relax at a table after paying is not unreasonable. The customer service is horrible and I would not recommend wasting your money on an establishment that had the audacity to ask paying customers to move.

Oh man.. oh man.... I haven't had a great meal like this in a while... I had the pleasure of being taken to Woodmont Grill for a business lunch last week while in the Bethesda area... and I can fully understand why my old coworker eats here 3-4x weekly. My friend and along with everyone that entered around the midday lunch hour - were instantly recognised by the bar staff... and each server seemed to know each patron on a first name basis...... I was immediately pleased to see that Woodmont has that "Cheers" kind of feel. We sat at the bar - and for the next 2.5 hours.... were treated like family. Here's what I devoured..... * Started with their soup of the day - Clam Chowder - O --- M ----G.... super creamy... luscious... wonderful bacon bits....tender clam....chunky potatoes.. and freshly toasted.. buttery croutons... we ate every bit...If I were at home... we both would have licked the bowl... seriously.... * Fried Oysters with cowboy vinaigrette - while I'm not a usual oyster eater... these were delicious... with a dash of hot-sauce on each.. they were tender..delectable.. and so flavourful!! that vinaigrette was superb.. * Hawaiian Rib-eye - at everyone's recommendation ---- was so juicy...had it done medium...and split half as it was a super big portion....the glaze was strong - just how I like it.....and seared perfectly.... (I subbed out the baked potato for Spinach and Tabbouleh .... which were both bright... clean...and garlick-y :).... loved it.... and YES .... I had room for dessert.... *Apple Walnut Cobbler caramel topping and vanilla ice cream - You can just fold me up and lay me down on a bed in the back room at this point... I'm not sure how I fit everything in while wearing my super slimming black dress and blazer - but I made room for this... (shared with 2 others though)... SUPER YUMMY... although too much walnuts for my taste..... if I have the opportunity to visit again - I will request 1/2 the amounts of walnuts. All around - the service was impeccable.... felt like I was at a NY steakhouse - minus the snobbery...and minus being rushed.... I think if we stayed until 6pm... it wouldn't have mattered..... 1 change of staff at the bar... and both ladies were as pleasant as sunshine..... Woodmont Grill... I'm smitten....and I can't wait to visit again. I'm SO SOLD.

I took my cousins out to dinner last night and we had the best dining experience at the Woodmont Grill. The atmosphere, decor and service was excellent. Additionally, the Jazz Trio add to the dining experience. The food came out in a timely manner and the restaurant was able to accommodate one of mcousins vegetarian needs. Our food was well prepared and it was delicious. I will be back to dine in my future visits to Bethesda.

There is always a line to get in so don't go there without reservations. The first time we went there, there was an hour wait. So we came back again with reservations but still had to wait to get our table. But definitely well worth it. Food was absolutely delicious. The steaks are great. Its one of our favorite places. The servers are extremely accommodating. The hostess even remembered our names and addressed it as such on the way out. I am a fan!!

Well the veggie burger is good enough that even non-vegetarians order it, as is the case with us. The Emerald Kale Salad is another favorite and we are not crazy about kale, but this is good. Heirloom tomatoes with burrata is a good special when it's on; this looks plain but the flavors are charmed. Good accompaniment: the hand-cut fries, light and slim, like shoestring, with spicy mayo. That works for us. The beef burger is available Cali style, meaning arugula and avocado, not on the menu, but should be!

My first time here and the food was excellent. I got the Hawaiian Rib Eye because that's what everyone raves about which was AMAZING! My lemon drop martini was ok, I've had better. The drinks were definitely overpriced, but the food was cooked to perfection. I'm sure there are similar, a tad less pricey steakhouses in the area though, but it was easily one of the best steaks I've ever had.

Considering we've been living in Bethesda for over a year, I can't believe it took us so long to try out Woodmont Grill. For lunch, we got grilled artichoke and tortilla soup to start, the veggie burger for my entree, and the sole fish special for the mister. The grilled artichoke and the dipping sauce served with it were fantastic. We loved the chargrilled and earthy flavors. It's one of those dishes that you must try if it's available, especially since you probably won't be making it at home. The tortilla soup was great on its own, but it was probably overkill for us, and didn't quite complement the rest of our meal - it was our own fault in ordering, not at all a strike against the soup itself. The veggie burger I'll be dreaming about until the next time we're reunited. The patty is made of beets, beans, prunes, brown rice, and other goodies. It's also fire-grilled and coated in a soy glaze, then served with a delicious bun and all the other fixings. A+ on that burger. My husband's sole was good, but not necessarily memorable. Woodmont Grill is a new favorite.

I've been going to Woodmont Grill for over 10 years back when it was still Houston's. I have NEVER had a bad meal or bad service. I love it and would recommend it to any and everyone. Never disappoints. I think twice I've had a drink a don't like and they took it back immediately and made it just the way i like it. My favorites are the Hawaiian steak, spinach dip and ribs. OMG THE BEST. Two thumbs up

I haven't been here in a while! The basic space is the same and still quite busy. I was one of the opening crew here when it was Houston's restaurant. I scooped up a seat at the bar and grabbed a menu. My first observation was the new bar set-up. Tap beers in place and they nixed the cappuccino machine at the bar! No more blue and maize bow ties. Totally laid back. I scanned the menu and picked a roasted chicken and swapped out the Tabbouleh for succotash. When I worked here quite a few things were microwaved. Spinach and artichoke dip, 90% of the side items.... Hmmmm. Today the side item jumped out! Lima beans, sliced asparagus, corn, black eyed peas, heirloom cherry tomatoes! That $hit was on point! (Thug Kitchen guy voice) the roasted chicken was served with a demi glaze and an apricot sauce, which I passed on. The breast meat was on the dry side. Lacked in flavor and in hindsight I should have ordered it the way it appeared on the menu. Surprisingly the leg quarter was just slightly better. No big deal. Its an easy fix! Lovely space and great looking staff!

Love this place! We ordered the fried oysters, crab cakes and the ahi tuna. All of which were very delicious and beautifully presented. I love the atmosphere here and the live music. The place is a bit dim but that doesn't affect the food. The service is also wonderful and friendly! Will definitely come back again!!

Delicious ribs, I would really recommend them. The steaks are phenomenal especially the rib eye as per my ravenous teen sons. Juicy, and scrumptious they echoed in unison! Deserts were decadent. The apple cobbler was the fav! I really enjoyed the ambiance and the waiters were knowledgeable about the dishes and everybody in the restaurant looked jolly and it was completely packed with food lovin people!

This place is excellent to dine at, it has the tastiest food in the area by far. Some of my favorite dishes are the French dip and the veggie burger. The staff are extremely great especially the manager Sally there as she is extremely happy to help customers and make sure everyone has a great experience. This is a great date spot or just regular spot for any meal and I highly recommend it!

Value: 5/5 Taste: 4/5 I've been coming to this restaurant since I was a kid. It's a favorite of mine and my family, especially my grandfather. We come here at least once a month. I would say it's the best value for steak in the area. My standard is the Filet Mignon, medium rare, which is priced at about $39 and comes with a side. The filet is extremely tender on the inside, and a little crispy on the outside. Very flavorful, but I have a very high propensity for salty foods so I get Lea & Perrins steak sauce on the side to top it off. Compared to other more expensive steaks, I would have to give the edge in flavor/taste to places like Morton's or Ray's the Classics in Silver Spring. But those places are pricier as well. I've had the ribs, the prime rib, and the burgers and they are all excellent. The Caesar salad dressing is uniquely delicious, and their sides are always on point. My favorite is the summer corn but I've never had anything that I didn't like. Things have changed a bit recently. The portions (salad) have gotten a tad smaller. They no longer offer complimentary Texas Toast or free refills for beverages. I used to get the Shirley Temple and pound back at least 4 cups. Now you get a cup of ice with syrup in it and a mini bottle of sprite. Not worth it for me. Nevertheless, still a staple restaurant in my family outings! Highly recommended.

We went here for lunch on a Saturday. There is a small lot besides the restaurant as well as a Parking Garage conveniently located across the restaurant. The wait was about 15 minutes for a table of 3, not bad. Our server was incredibily friendly and how all servers should be. When he saw our fried oysters were not out, he came by to notify us they were going to comp it because of the wait/ new staff. The cook even came out to apologize. We ordered the Hawaiian Ribeye, Center cut filet, Cheddar burger and handcut fries. All the meat came out cooked as requested. We were all pleased with our dishes. Even the sides were delicious. I devoured the baked potato. I only ate half of my burger and left full, satisifed and with a to-go for later. I highly recommend this restaurant.

apparently, this place doesn't honor reservations. we arrived at 8:15 for an 8:15 reservation, and we were placed on a waitlist alongside a lot of angry patrons. at 8:30, we went across the street for a lackluster meal at black's. it was a terrible night. i won't attempt to return.

I had the pleasure of experiencing the HAWAIIAN RIBEYE STEAK, RIBS, & THE BROWNIE SUNDAE!!! The steak was very juicy, tender, and flavorful! No steak sauce was needed here. The ribs were equally as good and the sauce used was very tasty. The servers were very attentive and rendered superior customer service throughout the course of our meal! Only con: Pretty pricey for a steak to not include a salad and for a loaded baked potato to be considered a premium side.

I seriously cannot find a single thing wrong with Woodmont Grill, other than that it is slightly expensive (not a lot, just slightly). My husband and I, or my girlfriends and I, frequented this restaurant back when I was living in Bethesda a few years ago. For many years it was called Houston's, which was a small chain of restaurants in the DC area known for its amazing barbecued spare ribs. All of the area Houston's closed down, except for this one - and this one got a new name, but it is still the same great place, same location, same menu, same free parking lot, same all good stuff. I was in MD recently, and met a friend for lunch at Houston's. It's really funny, because Bethesda MD (downtown) is known for its many wonderful restaurants, there are literally hundreds of terrific places to eat. But whenever I am "back home" and want to meet a friend for lunch, we always come here. As to the menu: the ribs are phenomenal, the hamburgers are cooked to perfection and served on a wonderful roll, with tomato, lettuce and good french fries, the salads are huge and delicious (especially the Steak Thai salad - it has some pasta in it, it's spicy hot, and it's just wonderful). I've had ahi tuna there - which is either blackened or just grilled on the outside only, and served sushi style. It's always fresh and delicious. The service is lovely and friendly, there is a huge parking lot right next door (free during the day at least, if you dine there) and I've absolutely never had a bad meal there. I just have to give Woodmont Grill five stars because I always enjoy my meal and I really don't feel ripped off when I leave. Bethesda and environs' restaurants are all very expensive, as are the shops in the area. I guess the rent is high, so it is reflected in the prices. But as I said earlier, it is only slightly expensive, and the quality of the food makes it well worth the price.

I have been dining at Houston's /woodmont grill for 25 years. It remains one of my all favorite restaurants. My downgrade is simply due the outrageous rising costs. 10 years plus ago I ate here 2 or 3x per week 5 years ago 1x per week. 2 years ago every other week. Presently I am down to once a month. I rarely, if ever complain about price. However, while the meal and service are always very good, the pricing At WG has begun to cross the line. No more soda refills- rather a small 10 oz bottle of coke???? If they take anymore lettuce out of the salad than they already have, it will just be considered garnish. Many other items have decreased in size but increased in price. Not a good combo.. Houston's/WG I really want to love you again but you gotta stop the price gauging. Signed, A not as frequent customer as I used to be.

I came here for dinner many months ago and I can't stop thinking about this place. For dinner I had Roasted Prime Rib with mashed potatoes. It was cooked perfectly! The service was amazing. The server was very nice and tentative. I need to make arrangement to go back and try something else on their menu. Famous French Dip Sandwich is on my list to try next.

If you're looking for a classy, Steakhouse type of atmosphere--dark room, professional staff, jazz band playing next to a well stocked bar--with less money on the charge card at the end of the night, Woodmont Grill is your place! Where do I start? --They have 53 reviews mentioning the burgers--Some of the best in the D.C. area --They have 26 reviews mentioning the Veggie burger--Maybe the best in the D.C. area --They have 24 reviews mentioning the Ribeye--Steakhouse quality at a non-steakhouse price--$34 and comes with a loaded baked potato --They have 6 mentioning the wine list....(record player scratch here) If you love wine and live and/or eat often in Montgomery County, you already know the suffering we go through as far as wine lists--their pricing, and often how interesting they aren't due to county laws and markup etc.etc. I don't know how the Woodmont Grill does it, but they not only have a tremendous wine list in terms of selection (it isn't unusually large, but it's chock full of high quality, interesting bottles), but at prices that are really mind blowing in some cases. For example, we drank a bottle of Freemark Abbey Cab. This wine was just listed in the "Top 10 Most Popular Cabs" on wine lists across the U.S., in Wine and Spirits magazine. The average price for this bottle on lists across the U.S. is $73 according to their article. Woodmont Grill is charging us $54! That my friends is fair wine list pricing.

I have eaten at pretty much every top restaurant in DC. None of them come even close to Woodmont Grille. Yes, even your tiny plates, Jose Andres. Woodmont Grill is just that place where you end a meal at an expensive restaurant downtown and say "no way that was better than houstons." The service is a well-oiled machine. The flying chicken makes me happy. The apps are amazing, every person in america likes the ribs and the grilled chicken salad. This place is just the best. Period.

Fri, April 17th, I went in for dinner and sat at the bar. Bartender /Waitress never identified herself, which is okay, but I love knowing my server's name. I immediately ordered my meal, once getting my meal, I realized I needed additional things. Not once did the bartender/waitress (only blonde server) ask did I need anything, nor a refill of my drink or even water. I watched her service everyone to the left of me until the end of the bar, offering water, more drinks, dissert and even conversing with patrons. Needless to say, I felt this bartender /waitress was discriminating against me and this had happened in the past, two months ago along with someone accompaning me. Last night, I made a complaint to the manager, but feel nothing will be resolved because I was treated this was before by the same bartender /waitress. At this point writing the main office and contacting the media may be the answer as well as getting other organizations involved. Working in an environment with the public should call for fair and proper services for everyone. Hopefully when I return, I will contact the manager as she said to make sure my service is rendered to satisfactory standards. By the way, food is always great!

I've got a crush of the Hawaiian persuasion. Never been sprung like this before. A magnificent piece of eye candy that smells soooo intoxicating and has a sauciness that drives me wild. I undress her with my eyes as my mouth salivates with lust. I know Valentine's day is around the corner, but my heart is already taken. I can't control myself as she lays on the table waiting to be devoured. Should I take it slow and be gentle? Do I follow my carnal urges and get rough like a caveman? I go with the latter as I plunge my long, sharp.....KNIFE in and tear that piece of meat up like there is no tomorrow. The Hawaiian ribeye is the real deal and worth an orgasmic response. I've been here along with several of the other current/former Houston's locations nationwide (nyc, boston, nashville) on several occasions and this dish has not disappointed (optimally served medium rare). The spinach dip provides an excellent balance of spinach and cheese, which complement each other very well. That appetizer also comes with salsa and sour cream dips, which are both yummy. Several other options at Woodmont are also worth ordering including their seafood dishes, burgers and salads. Their shoe string fries and red beans and rice also make for excellent side options. The desserts are not earth shattering, but average. Add the great food with nice jazz played at a moderate volume to allow for intimate conversation and this seems like the perfect recipe to get lucky. Date night!!!!

Three strikes and you're out. This is one of my friend's favorite restaurants. He keeps trying to convince me that the food is great. I find it average or below. I had a steak the first time I visited. It tasted odd enough to me that I couldn't finish it. The second visit I had crab cakes. They were average, a bit dry. I declined my friends invitations after that. I didn't want to insult him and his taste or waste the money. He convinced me to try one last time. I got the burger the last time. It was okay. Better than the steak and crab cakes, but what does that say? The appetizers and sides also range from below average to average for me. The atmosphere is nice. Overall, not worth it for me.

Houston's or Woodmont grill are all under the umbrella company of Hillstone, so service, ambiance and decor are almost comparable to the one i went to in New Jersey a while back. Service was excellent, the meal was a monstrosity of ribs which were fall of the bone goodness and the margarita was fantastic as well. As a matter of fact i am about to eat my leftovers from the meal last night. Ciao.

Woodmont Grill could be a really great restaurant if it wanted to be, but it's not. Why, you ask? The service. OK, and a little bit the food. Let me explain. I've worked in the food service industry in various FOH roles (server, bartender, host) on and off for 8 years. I live around the corner from Woodmont Grill and have been frequenting it recently. When you dine here you will be attended to, and the servers will hit most of their marks. So what's the problem? They serve you in a way that is cold and, as another reviewer noted, extremely robotic. I get the distinct impression when I dine here that the servers don't care about me or my dining experience at all; they're just going through the motions. It's as if behind their fake smiles they are just counting the seconds until they don't have to be there anymore. If you can sense this as a guest, it's bad news. In addition to that complaint, the last time I was at Woodmont Grill, I ordered the wedge salad. It came with a RIDICULOUS amount of blue cheese dressing. Once it had overtaken the salad, I couldn't even eat anymore because there was simply too much dressing. My husband thought that I should complain, but having worked in the industry, I didn't want to appear difficult. Especially when the server was giving me the impression that she didn't really care for us (Her words, before taking our order: "You ready?" Rude...). When the server came to collect the half eaten plate, I asked her if the dish normally came with that much blue cheese. This is a polite way of insinuating that there is too much blue cheese and I didn't like it. Anyone who has worked in a fine dining establishment knows that comments like these indicate unhappiness with a dish, and should be addressed and/or fixed. She knew it too, but she didn't care. Her response? "You can order the salad with light dressing or dressing on the side ... But yes, there is a substantial amount of blue cheese on there." And she walks away. Seriously? I guess it's not safe to assume that a place that charges almost $50 for a steak can figure out how much dressing to put on a salad. But, I, the consumer, should be able to predict that there will be too much dressing and know to ask for it on the side or light? That makes no sense. It wasn't comped: further proof that the server didn't give a damn. Positive things: The bar is great and I love the nightly live jazz. Host staff is friendly and actually seems human, unlike the servers. Decent wine selection. Excellent margaritas. I've had some fantastic prime rib here.

Still good food and service but liked it better when it was Houston's. They've raised the prices probably because of the hype that this place gets, but nothing else has changed (except some things were taken off the menu). Wait times can be a little longer. Still coming here because it's a Bethesda staple.

Saturday. Had 6pm reservations for the Woodmont which has been a family favorite 15+ years. The upscale restaurant is dimly lit and has jazz inspired art displayed throughout. The bar was crowded to capacity per usual and a live jazz band started playing 30 minutes into our visit. The restaurant has great ambiance for couples or just friends who need to catch up. There is complimentary parking on a lot adjacent to the restaurant and a gentleman greeting everyone while directing traffic. We ordered the fresh fish of the day which was Arctic char and pan-roasted salmon (medium), mashed potatoes, and kale salad instead of Brussels sprouts. It didn't take long to receive our food despite the restaurant being filled to capacity. The char was grilled to perfection and had a mild nice flavor. My salmon was also perfectly prepared, had nice flavor, and they remembered to put the lentil vinaigrette on the side. The kale salad contained fresh kale, chopped nuts and was not overdressed, wonderful texture, delicious. Portion size was average, no shareable sides over here. My issue was the bland mashed potatoes. For a second, I wondered if they were made from a box. I asked our attendant to replace them with a baked potato. I thought this was a simple request because both side items cost the same amount. The attendant gingerly explained to me that they can't do that because they consider my mashed potatoes a garnish. Excuse me??? He offered me a field greens salad instead but I wanted starch/carbs! The field greens salad was decent but I was still disappointed that my request could not be accommodated... I didn't take pictures because the menu says "No cell phones in the dining room". PS. I miss the Houston classics like the skillet beans, rainbow trout, traditional salad, and cheese toast.

One of my favorites place in Bethesda due to the consistency in service and food. Food is always awesome , except that they recently changed my fav hamburger dish! Definitely recommend - smoked salmon appetizer, kale salad and any of the meats. Portions are huge here, so don't over order ! Service is always implacable and discreet, which I love ! I notice that servers help each other. There's no bar backs, food runners or other help, which makes the servers to work hard and deliver good service the whole time you're dinning. Can't wait to go back!

I have been coming to Houston's, now Woodmont grill for 20 years. Getting worse and worse. Santa Fe chicken gone, soups gone, no fish lemons, bottled sodas, new fries, etc.... I can go on and on.... A place that is so successful and the best reputation for years and now let's change things for NO reason. Unreal. Dan was the best manager and now he is gone.... Getting worse and worse. Service amazing. Bartenders and staff great but I feel bad for the staff because they do the best they can but these ridiculous changes is not there fault. It's a shame.

Woodmont presents you solidly done meat, simple flavors and un-intimidating service. There's not much more that you can say than that. +Perma-smile waiters every time. +Artichoke dip and smoked salmon to start. +Nice little salad and chicken salads both very tasty. -But could ease up on the dressing. +Steaks done right. (Particularly the juicy, flavorful Hawaiian.) +All sides delicious. (Barley salad or loaded baked potato with the dressing on the side and you can glutton accordingly.) +Wet and indulgent brownie dessert with a nice hint of kahlua in the caramel. Be sure to RSVP!

Houston's, Woodmont Grill, whatever the name, the quality of the food and atmosphere still delivers. When this was Houston's on Rockville Pike, I remember going with my mom for take your child to work day and just going crazy for the chicken basket with the shoestring fries and amazing honey mustard. I wanted to shake my fists in the air and cry when I saw it did not exist anymore! (dramatic much? haha) You can imagine my excitement when I found out that Houston's moved to Bethesda and had just changed the name to Woodmont Grill. Just a bit of a back story, Woodmont Grill is owned by the Hillstone restaurant group and if you are ever in New York, the Hillstone Restaurant has the same delicious food with the addition of a sushi bar. Ok that is all for the history lesson...NOW ONTO THE FOOD. I always start with the spinach dip. Try to get your fix and not let it get cold, it becomes a bit congealed and unappealing in the ramekin it's served in. Other than that the flavor is great, its creamy and comes with huge chunks of artichoke which I can't get enough of (score if you are with people that do not like artichokes, more for you). This is by far THE place I come to get my veggie burger fix. My carnivorous boyfriend at the time could not imagine eating a veggie burger and actually enjoying it, but once he took a bite of mine, he was shocked at how meat like and delicious it is. The veggie patty is moist, succulent, and is exactly like ground beef, however the flavor is something to die for. I have not been able to ever find a veggie burger that can even come close to this one. I sub the french fries for the delicious Tabbouleh side. Can't go wrong with this combo. I have had the French dip here and that is also a winner, the horseradish is so fresh and just takes the sandwich to the next level. It's awesome when you get the perfect bite ratio of au jus, tender meat, and horseradish. The shoestring fries are a welcome addition to this meat and potatoes meal. Most people love the loaded baked potato here and I really think the reviews are just size based. Yes, it does arrive at the table heaping with bacon, cheese, and sour cream, however, under all that, it is your average baked potato and a bit dry at that. I find it is just too dense and overkill for me to enjoy as a side with their amazing entrees. Would not recommend it. On my lighter days (not at all though). I have gotten the crispy chicken salad and it is lovely if you are craving a simple salad with nothing too exotic. The Thai steak and noodle salad is good too, my friend goes bonkers for it. Still have room? Oh go ahead and either get the brownie sundae for the hot fudge sundae. Woodmont Grill does nothing fancy with these desserts and I love them even more for it. They are just big portioned and delicious versions of these old favorites. The vanilla ice cream on both is creamy and lovely. The chocolate sauce for the sundae is served in a gravy boat for you to pour over the sundae (love this because you can control how much you put on the sundae) and the candied walnuts are awesome. They took old favorites and did them so right. Woodmont Grill is perfect, the atmosphere is a calm one and the lighting is low. You would think a restaurant like this would be serving small portioned meals at an exorbitant price being in Bethesda, but no. You get generous portions of non-pretentious and well prepared food. The wait staff is attentive and knowledgeable of the menu.

Yelp came to my rescue as my associate on my trip wound up being my supervisor and I got to impress him by knowing a good place for good food as he could not decide if he wanted fish or beef on this trip. The Woodmont Grill did not disappoint as they had BOTH! It reminded me of the Los Altos Grill is also a Houston's restaurant as they serve great food and large portions in a unique atmosphere that is casual but upbeat! The funny part is when you walk in you can see the Houston's sign over the entrance doors! We shared an appetizer and my new Supervisor enjoyed a daily special of Trout and I enjoyed a nice rib-eye! Both were cooked to perfection! We were too stuffed to have a signature dessert, but maybe next time! Great food, good times!

Amazing veggy burger that pairs nicely with a classic Kir (which the bartenders do well). I liked the previous Rockville location called "Houston's" a bit more but the current Bethesda location is still classy. I also like the live jazz.

4-5 stars! Woodmont Grille is reliably good with all the old Houston's favorites. My personal favorite is the classic Chicken Salad. The tabbouleh side dish is also great but my new fave is the kale salad topped with crushed peanuts. The steaks are great as are the ribs. If you like chicken fingers which aren't on the menu, just ask! The staff is among the most polished and accommodating of any restaurant I've been to. This restaurant is always consistently great.

We had a $75 gift certificate, so we decided to give it a try. I remember when this used to be Houston's a few years ago. The interior was dark and classy, but definitely not stuffy. Service was prompt and friendly. Although some of the 'lesser' items like burgers and appetizers seemed overpriced, the steaks and prime rib was comparable to similar-type places. We each had the prime rib, and it was pretty tasty. Bone-in added to the flavor, and it was perfectly seasoned and roasted. The accompanying mashed potatoes were okay, as were the brussel sprouts (extra). Anyway, slightly pricey, but a very satisfying dinner...

Been here many times. The ribs are great: very tender with a sweet sauce. The burger is good too. Even elements that would normally be an afterthought (the cabbage side or the walnuts on the apple cobbler) are noticeably tasty. Their beer list, while fine, is fairly generic. The interior is clad in dark wood paneling and softly lit. Even on a Tuesday night they seem to have live piano and string music.

It is one of the best steakhouses in DC area. if you go there you have to try smoked salmon and Hawaiian ribeye or their ribs. Dont forget to try their fudge

Was brought here for a special occasion. Didn't have a reservation, and was told it was a 45min wait. We walked around the area trying to find something to entertain us, but nothing. We went back after ~20mins and went to the bar area to order a drink, when the hostess came over and told us that a table was ready! It was my first time and heard raves about the hawaiian style steak. However when reviewing the menu, the prime rib caught my eye. Ordered that with a side of the tabbouleh. Steak was cooked perfectly and was good. However, I got to try the Hawaiian style rib eye...and wow. So. Good. Next time I will def be getting that. A friend recommended that I should try the kale salad next time, so I already have my next meal here mentally prepared. Does this place serve bread?? Missing the 5th star because we didn't get the bread starters, servers weren't as attentive, and wasn't over the top amazing. Maybe next time when I get the rib eye it'll get them the 5th star.

We had some difficulty in finding this restaurant on foot, however, I called and the hostess assisted me in finding the site using my iPhone. We walked in and were greeted by a crowd of hungry people waiting to be seated. The hostess advised me it would be a 15 minute wait even with our 6:30 pm reservation. And she was right as we were promptly seated around 6:45 pm in the rear of the restaurant near the open kitchen. There is nothing distinctive about the interior except it looks like an upscale diner with a bar and open kitchen. We had a great server who was very efficient in taking our order for dinner. I had a nice salad with fresh greens, cranberries, beets with goat cheese and crumbled bacon with a thick vinaigrette dressing. I liked the salad but not the smoky tasting bacon as it did not mix well with the other tasty ingredients. My husband had the chile and gave me a thumbs up before it was all gone. We both had the fresh broiled rockfish with a crabmeat topping (which were plain lumps of sweet crabmeat). This was served with a sizable portion of real mashers and asparagus. We both liked the entrees and said that the fish was fresh and ample and so was the crabmeat. I asked for the buttery sauce on the side so as to not confuse the taste of the fish with the sauce. We were very satisfied with our food and could not eat more so we asked for the check. It was hard to believe but in this busy restaurant we ate and paid in less than an hour. I would return to this nice eatery in the heart of Bethesda if I am in the area. It was a very good meal with excellent service. And yes the restroom was clean and well stocked. It lost one star for the wait we had even with a reservation and the cramped waiting area that did not have seating for its diners.

The service was excellent and the food was delicious. This was my first visit.... i ordered the rotisserie chicken (comes with tabbouleh). At first I was hesitant because it comes with an apricot sauce but I loved it. Bread doesn't come with the meals but I had no problem ordering it. I probably should've skipped the extra carbs but the cornbread was very good. I will be back again!!

Great food and impressive atmosphere! I went here a couple of Saturdays ago to celebrate my bf birthday. I had made a reservation, but we actually got there pretty late (around 10:15pm) since I was just getting off of work. Because of that, we had to wait for a table for probably a few minutes longer, but it was fine. We both got the beef chili for appetizer, which was so delicious. They served it with chips, which I liked very much as opposed to the crackers everywhere else usually serves. For the entree, I got the thai chicken salad, which was absolutely awesome! Light enough, but very filling and tasty. Man, I'm craving it right now as I'm typing :-). My bf had the ribs I believe and he really liked his food as well. I'd mentioned in the reservation that it was his birthday, so when we ordered dessert, it came out with a candle :-). Just one negative, I'd wanted to order the Key Lime pie but they ran out. The chocolate sundae looked hastily pulled together. I understand, though, since we came late. Still, that was the only thing that kept it from being a 5-star experience. We topped the night off with some coffee (we're both getting old). All in all a pretty good experience! Oh and parking wasn't that much of a hassle either. We lucked out and found a meter a block away from the restaurant.

My family and I used to come here all the time when it was still called Houston's. Luckily the food is still the same and we still come here all the time when I come home to visit. The portions are huge and everything is cooked perfectly. Highlights include the prime rib, the Hawaiian ribeye, the tuna mango salad, and the fully loaded baked potato. The food along with their excellent service and classy atmosphere make for a great night out.

Woodmont Grill is the perfect spot for a sophisticated steak supper. The ambiance is plush, cozy complete with comfy leather booths and romantic lighting. Service is always impeccable. I love the live jazz. Why Woodmont Grill only receives four stars as opposed to five is because of the food. The food is delicious, I've never had a bad meal, but the menu never, or rarely, changes. Personal preference, perhaps, but in the day and age of farm-to-table dining I must question the lengths they go to source items on their ever stagnant menu. (But they grill one delicious fillet!)

Every single item our party of 6 ordered was fantastic. The smoked salmon with the house specialty dip was the best I've ever had. My fellow diners had the crab cakes, the rib eye steak, hawaiian steak and I had the grilled fish (that day's specialty). The hot fudge sundae was delicious. The service was great. My only issue was I tried to make a reservation for lunch and they said they dont take reservations, so our party of 6 ended up waiting for a table for about 25 mins on a saturday afternoon. I would think an expensive place like this would try to limit wait times for their customers by taking reservations, especially for bigger groups.

Pretty darn good, but nothing that blew my mind. Wife had the Hawaiian rib-eye and baked potato which she enjoyed, but I couldn't tell that it was any different from any other good rib-eye. She also really enjoyed that they salted the skin of the baked potato. Way to go finding a new place for sodium in this ever-saltier world! I had the crabcakes, which (as promised by the waiter) were chock full of crab meat. Very good. Coleslaw was also quite good, but the stand-out favorite for me was the Kale Salad I substituted for the french fries. It was awesome. Woodmont Grill, why you no have good dessert menu? Only two choices....that's not gonna cut it for me, so we went elsewhere for our "happy ending". We were in and out real quick, not because we didn't like the atmosphere, but we just ate fast. Staff seemed pretty competent, but there was a party of like 6-8 senior citizens who had a reservation at 7 pm and had to stand in the "waiting area" for 20 minutes. They were uber-cheesed off and didn't want free stuff from management, they just wanted to be angry and nearly left. 20 minutes is a long time if standing is very difficult for you, I can see why they would be angry. Plus they were crammed up next to the jazz trio. That crap gets annoying. Overall, very solid, but I probably wouldn't go back because the menu is so small and I wasn't tempted to try too many things. Also an interesting mix of people dressed up really nice, and other wearing t-shirts and shorts....

dined here today for my birthday. this was my very first time coming here to eat. after asking so many people where should I eat for my birthday they suggested I come here to give it a try. this was by far the best dining experience I've had in a long time & I eat out a lot. the restaurant was very nice, upscale dining, live jazz band, super friendly & courteous staff from the host to waitress. the food is to die for. my mouth was literally watering after biting into my juicy steak. the wait was a little long but since I had a dinner reservation I didn't have to wait. in the future if I don't have a reservation I'll still wait to be seated because the food is worth it! I look forward to dining at Woodmont Grill again!

Oh my goodness the smoked salmon was the best!! I had the salmon cooked medium well based on my fellow yelpers suggestions with 2 sides: braised purple cabbage and mashed potatoes. I ate the entire meal. It was cooked to perfection. I will definitely be going back with friends and family. Oh and the band in the background really gave it more intimate feel.

I avoided this place when I first moved to Bethesda even though it was across the street from my apartment: seemed old, stuffy and just not a place I would choose to go. But after the brutal winter we had this year, the thought of going into DC or even walking more than a few blocks became really unappealing and I visited this place a few times. I always sat at the bar but he menu is the same as the general restaurant. The severs make good, stiff drinks and the menu, despite being limited, has really solid dishes- the flying tuna platter with the mango/honey vinaigrette is delicious. This is a perfect place for a late(r) night dinner and drink if you don't feel like going in town . The crowd is a bit older but it's more laid back than it appears from the outside.

At first I thought everyone would be jealous of my entree, the Hawaiian prime rib, because it tasted as awesome as it looked: generous slab of flavorful, tender steak with an exploding, creamy baked potato on the side (with a delicious side of bacon/cheese/sour cream topping), but I was impressed with my samplilng of the other dishes! Made a reservation for 6 people for Saturday lunch, and we were seated at a nice, circular booth, which was fitting for good conversation (and, of course, sampling!). The server was friendly and attentive. Other dishes I really enjoyed: soft shell crab po boy (where else can you get such a fanciful and flavorful sandwich??), crispy chicken sandwich, and the crab salad (large chunks of crab meat!). Each of us had leftovers, and I can definitely say that my reheated portion was just as good as it was when it was freshly served!

I went here a couple of weeks ago for the first time. I really wanted to try the crab cakes, but I had them the night before. I decided to go with the burger instead which was huge, juicy and delicious! I also had the spinach and artichoke dip as an appetizer which was great, but the chips were stale. My bad for not speaking up. An extra plus....one glass of wine is really 2 :)

This is one of my favorite restaurants! I love the seared tuna salad , which they just changed the name to "Flying Tuna Platter". The dressing is soooo delicious. The salad has avocado and mango throughout. They took away the ginger, which hurts me just a little bit, but I'm still gonna order it everytime I go. We got the fried cowboy oysters this time. You would not believe the size of those oysters. They must have harvested them off of Jack's beanstalk because man were those babies GIANT. The waiter was so attentive and friendly. He was on top of everything like white on rice. For desert we got the brownie alla mode. OH MAN! MAN O MAN was that good. The brownie was super warm, chock full of nuts, and covered with this divine vanilla ice cream. I've never been disappointed when I come here. The last time I went, I got the prime rib which was just so perfect. One of my favorite appetizers has to be the smoked salmon dish. The sauce they serve is fantastic and the toast points are perfection. The salmon is cooked perfectly and is just the perfect light start to the meal.

This place is the best of the best. I've been a patron many years and have never had bad service or food. The food is always consistent and has never let me down. I'm a fan of the spinach dip, Caesar salad and Arctic Char when topped with the lemon butter and crabmeat. Melissa is the best server/bartender and I'm unsure of how she does it, but she remembers EVERYTHING and EVERYONE! It feels great to dine and be treated with superior service. I would recommend Woodmont to anyone who loves awesome food.

The DMV's perfect burger: egg-brioche bun cradles house-ground sirloin, ripe tomatoes, and a slaw of iceberg, radicchio, (fennel?) and mustard seed. Ribs are fall-off-the-bone tender, and the grilled artichoke gives me heart palpitations.

We tried Woodmont Grill for the first time and it was okay. We had the salmon and rockfish entrees and they were prepared well, yet without sauces or flavors. The booths were a nice touch if one is looking for a quiet dinner with a date. Also, we loved the live Jazz. Our issue was the lack of a happy hour. We weren't thrilled to have to pay $12 for a beer! The staff seemed a bit a bit cold in response to this and in general. But, if you are looking for a place with a great atmosphere and willing to pay for it, this is your place in Bethesda. I'm just not sure we will be back.

Holy cow. I went here for lunch today as soon as it opened, found parking right outside in their private lot, and got a seat. Surprisingly, the restaurant filled up fairly quickly! I ordered a veggie burger, which was highly recommended by many reviewers and my boyfriend got the crab sandwich. The burger was absolutely fantastic, but the fries were just on another level! I was also highly impressed with how quickly the food came out. We also ordered the warm brownie with ice cream (admittedly, a good dessert is my weak spot) and I would honestly come back for it alone! Overall, it was an amazing place and highly recommended!

Veggie burger is one of the better ones I've had. It's made in house and it's huge! My favorite is their cornbread! It's sweet and has green chiles... Delish. Added bonus on Saturday night: live jazz music :)

How did it take me so long to get here? What was I waiting for?! Fantastic service and the food was delish. I chowed down on the spinach dip, crab cake salad, and some french fries. Because french fries are a proper side for anything...including salad.

OMGGGG, I went here for lunch and fell in LOVE. I went for business, and couldn't help but focus on the food. I got the crab salad. I could go on.. but I will stop :-) The service: one of the best I've ever had. Must Go!

Formerly Houston's, Woodmont Grill is basically the same exact restaurant, right down to the menu. Dark wood, high back booths and jazzy music scream fine dining, but it's really more like "upscale casual." You could probably get away with shorts and a t-shirt, but you'll feel more comfortable in a button down shirt or Polo. The menu is simple, one page. Sandwiches, Salads, Steaks and Ribs and sides. They don't do a lot, but what they do, they do really well. If you're a carnivor, I suggest the Hawaiian ribeye. The flavor is amazing and it just melts in your mouth. The ribs are incredible too, the meat just slides off the bone. As for me, I go for the veggie burger these days. It's made from grain and beans and has a fantastic soy glaze. I like to add avocado. You really can't go wrong with any menu selection. But while the food is top notch, it's really the impeccable service that makes the experience. The servers are the best, attentive, but not pushy, helpful and polite. They work as a team, so you might see several faces during your visit. I believe our servers name was Julia and she was absolutely perfect. My only complaint or advice would be to hire some more friendly hosts. I stood alone by the grand piano for nearly 15 minutes and no one greeted me. They didn't acknowledge me until I actually approached the host stand and then barely offered a greeting or smile. Maybe it was an off day. I'll still be back

Woodmont Grill is a good option for a smart, upscale steak dinner in Bethesda, which is why I usually come here. The dark, wood decor, jazz music on Fridays, and open kitchen all work to create a nice ambiance, which I take as a subtle hint not to bring the kids here for dinner. Other menu options are also quite good -- the burger, salmon, crab cake, etc. The Thai Noodle salad (with marinated filet) was a surprising stand-out that deserves mention. The wine list is good, but the wines are pricey. With drinks, appetizers, and / or dessert, its pretty easy for two to crack the $100 threshold.

When there for our anniversary. Had the crab cakes entree, ahi tuna salad, smoked salmon, and Caesar salad. Service, quality, and taste are still top notch! Best crab cakes ever! The crab is so fresh, you can taste the sweetness to it unlike other restaurants that does crab bombs or softball size crab cakes. A good crab cake is about quality; not quantity. The ice cream sundae was awesome!

I came for the Hawaiian Ribeye due to Yelp peeps raving about it, but I ended up falling in true love with the prime rib! OMG. The prime rib. Where shall I begin. Take a perfect cut of meat. Right amount of fat. Not at all chewy/grizzly as the prime can be. With a seasoned crust that is borderline orgasmic. Medium rare. Drag about everrry other bite through a *tiny* bit of horseradish. A dream! I was not impressed, however, by the famed Hawaiian Ribeye. First of all, it has a sweet-ISH glaze on it--somewhat reminiscent of Korean BBQ... I guess I'm just a meat purist, but it didn't do it for me. The cut of meat was good--not great. This was my first time here. It has never been on my radar--but I liked the place A LOT. The atmosphere, service along with everything I tasted was very well done. It would be wrong for me not to mention the crabcake salad that's on the lunch menu: a delish no-filler crabcake+avocado+pink grapefruit+corn+greens+some yummy dressing= a sort of taste explosion heaven! Def one of the most delicious salads I've had in a longgg time if not ever. I am digging it and I will be back...in approximately 3 days...for V-Day dinner to get my mouth on that prime rib once again! If it tastes the same on round 2 I will happily be upgrading this rating to 5.

I invited three of my girlfriends out for a late Saturday dinner before we headed to a lounge. We made reservations, so within 5 minutes of arrival we were seated. The band was packing up when we arrived... so I can't say whether or not the live jazz was too loud or good for the space. There was some nice jazz playing in the background, which sounded fine to me. SERVICE: My only complaint was with the waitress! Arrgh... she was not friendly... at. all. I've just found that friendly servers can make the meal SO much more enjoyable... but not her lol. And she did the absolutely BARE minimum... i.e. I ordered wine, but my friends drinks did not get refilled until they asked... no checkups to see if we needed anything.. etc. Oh and we got a booth by the door and we received many short bursts of cold air throughout our meal... so just don't sit by the door in the winter!! THE FOOD: I ordered one of the salmon specials which came with a huge baked potato. They had Riesling that I like... and the wine selection IMO was good. My salmon was delicious. My stomach was happy. I didn't have any complaints... except no key lime pie since it was winter. My girlfriends ordered the sea bass w/crab; cheeseburger; and the rotisserie chicken (she said the breast was a bit dry... but she is picky eater FYI). Even though the service was bad, that's usually not a constant at any restaurant- so I will definitely go back! This is going on my date spot list... great ambiance, its dark, jazz... and great food of course.

What's up everybody, just wanted to say I had a great time at the Woodmont Grill formally known as Houston's. The food still is terrific! I can't say enough about the Hawaiian steak. I don't even need any steak sauce which is saying a whole lot for me, love my A1, but make sure you stop by and get a taste. You won't regret it!

We came here for lunch on Mother's day because Black's across the street couldn't seat our party without reservations. This place used to be called Houston's and it is still owned and operated by the same restaurant group. I think that it is slightly more upscale as Woodmont Grill than it was as Houstons. I also simply don't like this kind of food that much. I saw the menu, filled with steak, fish, burgers and ribs and really struggled to find anything that I wanted to order. So it is a very rare occasion when I'm in the mood for this kind of thing. I ordered the ahi tuna salad. The tuna was nicely seared, though it had some of those bands of fat that can make it difficult to eat. The salad itself had nice avocado and mango, but the lettuce was kind of ho hum and it was overdressed for my taste. My mother had the crabcake salad, which was excellent. My dad had the dip sandwich. I only had a couple of his fries. The fries are the shoe string variety, and they got mixed reviews at the table. I find them a bit bland for my taste. My brother ordered a special which was sea bass with crab meat and wilted spinach. He really enjoyed his a lot. His girlfriend ordered a burger, which was pretty large. Her mother got a salmon dish that also had wilted spinach and which she enjoyed. We also got a key lime pie which was just kind of ok and a giant ice cream sunday that really could have fed three. The restaurant itself is very dark, with lots of old style wood paneling and fancy bottles on the wall. It's meant to feel luxurious, but it doesn't quite get there. We sat in 3/4 round booth that was a tight fit for 6, but not horrible. I'm not sure why it has a cheesy diner clock in the back over the kitchen, but it definitely feels out of place. it's also very loud for the type of restaurant. I definitely could not hear everyone who was around our table. Service was friendly without being particularly attentive or quick. Took about 10 minutes to get a soda for instance. The check for 6 came to 180 bucks with gratuity included. It felt like a lot for the meal. Overall not a bad backup plan, and it worked fine for us, but not anywhere that I would recommend to someone.

What's good here: -Burger and fries-you absolutely cannot beat it. Every burger after this will only be a comparison to this one. Prepare yourself. Their fries are better than McDonald's fries. If I could bold this part of my review, I would. -Thai Steak Salad-delicious, some many great flavors mixing. I used to get mine without the soba noodles, extra avocado and mango! -Tuna Salad-I always liked raw tuna. This salad will make you love raw tuna. For vegans! vegetarians! -Veggie Burger-very good. A tad sweet and savory; composed of rice, beans and onions. -Grilled Artichokes-heavenly. Hard to describe how good these are. -Kale Salad in a thai sauce w/peanuts-makes you want to get up and dance, hug the waiter This has been my family's favorite restaurant for years and we were so sad when the Rockville location closed on 12/21/09 (rumors it might be re-opening?). Now it's all about Bethesda. The staff are completely dedicated to their restaurant; some of them having worked 20 years plus at Houston's. What a testament to the quality of the management and the restaurant as a whole. Houston's is just a classic, all-American restaurant that makes you proud to be American.

I came here on a tuesday night with a really close friend of mine. We made reservations for 7:30 but we then requested to sit in Monica's section because shes an awesome server. Her section was full so we had some drinks at the bar. Ketel one Soda, and hornitos sauza coke. Those were the first drinks to come and they weren't the last. When we were seated about 20 minutes later we started with a chicken basket, and its always so delicious. We were deciding between the filet Mignon, or prime rib. But Monica told us how good the in-bone rutherford 22oz steak was and we both decided to go with that. It's a $40 steak and its definitely worth it if your splurging. I usually get the Caesar salad with anchovies but since I got the big ass steak i decided to skip the greens. I did get a side of brussel sprouts which is always awesome. By the time we finished our steaks we had already had 3 rounds of drinks and had no room saved for dessert. I really wanted to get dessert, next time I come by I'll start with dessert so I don't miss out on it!

This is my favorite restaurant in the summer. The outdoor seating is perfect when it's not blisteringly hot out. My wife and I enjoy the Key Lime pie with the pecan-encrusted crust. It's seasonal and always a delight. We've not had a bad dish there and the servers are very knowledgeable and friendly. The only reason I won't give this place 5 stars is because the wait can be lengthy.

Yesterday I waited for a table! Initially the hostess said an hour wait then when I went back to check when we would be seated at our table the hostess said the wait was now an hour and a half. It was deplorable. It is really rude to tell the customer the wait is an hour and then change their mind and say oops the wait is an unreasonably longer amount of time. The manager apologized for the "miscommunication". I said if I had known that wait was an more than an hour I would've chosen to dine elsewhere. This was not a miscommunication, the hostess clearly said one hour when I arrived.

4 out of 5 Stars!! This place is expensive, but there is no other food like it. Beware of shitty imitators. No where else can I find a decent French Dip that taste half as good as Houston's/Woodmont Grill. And no other place do I have to pay $17 bucks to get it. There have been many knock off Houston's style-ish restaurants that claim to be able to have better food, but everyone knows better. If you want the real deal then here is the place to get it. I have tried everything on the menu and everything is one of a kind great food. Not so much a great price but Great food nonetheless. Came here on a busy Monday night and sat with Chris. He was attentive yet not intrusive. He knew a lot, and was able to tell me about each dish I had questions for. Like I stated above this is the only place I go to for a good French Dip so this time was no different. Food came out quickly and my Iced Teas stayed replenished. Ill never get tired of their food. If you get a chance, try anything they have to offer its great food. And if you want great service, ask for Chris....he is the Asian guy with an awesome faux hawk.

My husband and I moved up from Florida two years ago. We were excited to learn that one of our favorite restaurants (Houston's) was doing business under the name of Woodmont Grill. We were overjoyed with the familiar entrees and the fine quality of food and service . Save room for the apple cobbler. It is to die for.

Amazing scallops and prime rib. This is the first prime rib in the area that is as good as Old New Orleans Tom Sarris'

I went there for lunch. It was okay, nothing to write home about. I will not lie my food was great. I was seated fast w/out reservation. Mine you it was not busy. My service was not warm and I felt rushed. Would I go again, No. Would I consider it to someone in the area, I can't say. I arrange dinners for a lot of high level executives and I doubt I would suggest Woodmont Grill again.. although, I have in the past. I would not again. It's always best to judge for yourself. So, I suggest you do the same. My experience was not the greatest, but it doesn't mean you would get the same. I'm very honest and hard so three stars is fair.

Wow. Everything we ate was spectacular. Prime rib was hot and very juicy. Rock Fish was delectable - we wanted another one right away. Apple cobbler with ice cream was the best we had ever had at a restaurant. One in our party was gluten intolerant. The waiter was very knowledgable on what she could and could not eat. Very nice to have that level of service.

One of my favorite eating spots. From the parking attendant to the hostess to the serving staff- everyone treats you well. I usually make my reservation online so my wait is minimal. Everything on the menu that I have had is tasty- Ribbs, Flying tuna platter, crab cakes , burger, salads. And let's not forget the apple walnut cobbler or brownie for dessert.

I went here for a business lunch on Aug 15. I was absolutely blown away by Liz, our server. It was by far the most impeccable dining service I experienced from my whole week visiting various other upscale restaurants. The food was great, but I will go back because of Liz. She was attentive, answered questions very knowledgeably about the menu, got our special requests correct, and made our experience truly first-class. If we were hiring in the area, I would try to recruit her!

I'm a vegetarian but come to this place every time I'm in Bethesda. One of the best veggie burgers I've ever had but it comes with a price. Never paid $18 for a veggie burger but this one is well worth it. The skillet corn bread is also pretty amazing along with their enormous baked potato and every side I have ever gotten there. Just a tad over priced but great ambiance.

Tears of confusion and feelings of near betrayal flooded redness to my face when the bartender at the Rockville Houstons informed me they were closing... Forever. We had been regulars for years and loved the consistently amazing food at prices we'd pay for food half as good. We are now forced to trek it down to Bethesda where the food is almost the same. Steaks at both locations indiscernible, cooked perfectly to order, always juicy and flavorful. Mmmm. Salivating as I write this... Don't waste this opportunity on a salad (although they are fresh). The baked potatoes are never overcooked, a detail many restaurants fail - my pet peeve. I do miss the pork chops which are not on the Bethesda menu, and the grilled artichokes appetizer is sometimes hit or miss here - too oily or too charred. New York strip is a common special- well worth the extra cash. They have THE BEST chicken tenders which are not on the printed menu - go ahead, just ask for them like you're a regular. I crave them often: tender white breast meat surrounded by a light, tempura-like batter that's crispy and melts in your mouth. They come in appetizer portion or meal. Artichoke/spinach dip is also very good. The burgers ate tasty and juicy. The sundae is simple but ohhh so good. Ask for extra pecans. I love the dark rich atmosphere and the service is always efficient and helpful. One beer tap that usually serves something like a pilsner import. Great wine list but my preference is ordering their rum and coke which for some reason are better than any other place I've had them. For now, Woodmont Grill has satisfied the broken heart. The biggest thing it can't replace is Houstons' huge, amazing dim wooden bar. Sniff sniff.

Words cannot express my love for the food at Woodmont Grill. The Ahi Tuna salad is amazing, always fresh, and never leaves me unsatisfied. Off the menu: try the chicken tenders cooked in a tempura-style batter. These are delicious and only people who know about them are aware they're available to order. They are a bit expensive (around $18), but compared to the rest of the menu, you expect to pay that much for an entree, don't you? The live jazz is my favorite part, aftering sitting down, you barely realize you're being serenaded by the talented musicians. The dining area is intimate, yet open, giving it a full vibrant feeling as you're close to other diners. I've gone here for several special occasions and the wait staff is knowledgable, friendly, and helpful in all areas of the culinary experience.

Morphed from houston's to woodmont grill. Food subtly different from houston's but in wrong direction. Quality downgraded somewhat while prices elevated. Live music is nice. Chicken tenders platter still available if you ask. Filet mignon and baby back ribs still excellent. I also like french dip sandwich although extremely pricey. Baked potatoes used to be much better. Now not very hot and taste is bland. Salads also not as good as before. Hamburger good but pricey. Usually quite crowded and the hostess is typically incompetent and inefficient which tends to be annoying.

There are certain pivotal dining experiences that formulate your beliefs from that point after. Woodmont Grill disbanded one of those opinions that I had been holding onto for years. Their delicious spaghetti squash was plentiful enough to fill one friend's tummy and change one person's mind forever in favor of spaghetti squash when done right. Even after my new discovery and appreciation of spaghetti squash, the other plates on the table were too good to refuse sharing...when I say too good, I am talking double-dip-your-soup-spoon sharing good. I ordered the rockfish, which as a newcomer to consuming fish, delighted me with its delicate taste and delectable seasoning. The mashed potatoes served alongside it were a hit among all of my friends, raising its trade value high enough for me to swap for a taste of quite a few selections. I plan to go back and order the biggest possible bowl of their tomato soup; but with a very tantalizing menu, it will be very difficult to stop there. When every mouth at the table is happy, I think a restaurant has succeeded in impressing its patrons. We enjoyed our food to the point of indulgence in satiating wine and a scrumptious apple cobbler. I will say, in comparison to the robust experience of flavors, that I was unimpressed by the blandness of the spinach and the cornbread was good, but not noteworthy. Nevertheless, with a table of 10 different items, feeling so-so about two items is as close to success as if you cook it all yourself!

It's getting late on a Monday when we all decide steak is a necessity. A quick Yelp search revealed this place adjacent to our hotel. Bethesda is not exactly poppin' on week nights, so imagine my surprise at walking in to find a crowded bar and live jazz band! My jack and coke quickly reached its destination and within minutes were were seated in an intimate booth for four. The butternut squash soup was rich and creamy, the prime rib was moist without unnecessary fat, the service was impeccable and the atmosphere was festively vibrant. The check surely reflected the location and quality, but sometimes you really do get what you pay for.

My family and I have been coming here since Houston's opened this location. It was our go-to spot in Bethesda. My kids grew up eating here - chicken tenders and then onto the Hickory Burger. A few weeks ago, my 20-year-old son came home and said he had a big announcement. THE HICKORY BURGER HAS BEEN DISCONTINUED! We went to see for ourselves last week, and spoke to the MOD, who had some lame story about how they have made some menu changes to get away from the "Houston's Model" and adapt to the "Woodmont Grill Model", whatever that means. We still don't really know why they took our beloved HB away, but we got over it and ordered our dinner, which was fine but unremarkable. Now, a word about the prices: They've been creeping up every year, and now they're at $18 for a burger, and $15 for a glass of wine. Our dinner was $150 for three of us. Sadly, I don't know that we will be back.

..... if you've been looking for Rockville's HOUSTON'S restaurant - this is it ! - the menu is the same, the food is JUST as fantastic !!! - in fact, if you ask for the dressings that they used to use at Houston's they will serve them on your salad !!! - the FOOD is SPECTACULAR !!! only "downside" - it is expensive...... really expensive..... so..... come prepared to spend some money. And......... they changed their POLICY on sodas - (without telling us in advance) - so we got a "surprise" BILL - costing much more than we thought........ Here's what happened: Last time I went they didn't even offer "free-refills" on DIET COKE - so that cost me significantly since I wasn't expecting it..... (Note to owner: please offer free-refills on DIET COKE..... I promise I will spend a lot on the food...... and it will MORE than make up for a few extra sodas.....) My parents and I have been going to this restaurant for YEARS and YEARS ...... (probably once a month) - but, honestly, since they started charging ( A LOT) for each soda we haven't gone back to the restaurant........ it just felt kind of like they took the "FUN" out of it..... But......in all fairness to the restaurant - the staff - the chefs - and the people NOT deciding the POLICY on SODAS - I must say (in all fairness) the food and the service and the atmosphere is FIRST CLASS - - - it's the place that we went EVERY TIME there was an occasion for a family celebration.... EVERY TIME . . .. . . . Birthdays, Anniversaries, Wedding Planning, Work Promotion, Personal Happiness/Success , and I have taken some of my BEST ("want to impress") WORK CLIENTS to this restaurant - and YEARS LATER THEY"RE STILL REMEMBERING the dinner here !!!! So............ it's all good (except for the soda thing) . . ... I'll go back as soon as they change their soda policy. And for those of you who don't drink 3-sodas at dinner - - it's every bit the place to go to impress and celebrate .....!!!!! Enjoy!!!! ......

I went here on a Saturday night and it was extremely crowded. I opted for take and got the Hawaiian steak. I asked that it be cooked medium well but instead they cooked it well done. No complaints...it was very tasty! I will be sure to go back again.

I'd read some of the reviews on this place and was somewhat skeptical on what I'd find but, my relatives and I had a great experience here, plain and simple. The food was great, loved the jazz trio, and the staff were more than accommodating. I intend to return.

Since it's days as Houstons this has consistently been one of my favorite places in the world to eat. I used to go there with my parents all the time, but now that I am of legal drinking age, lets start with the drinks. All of their juices are freshed squeeze and make drinks that much better. I prefer vodka lemonade due to the lemonade's deliciousness, but the orange juice and grape fruit juice are excellent. The soups are all amazing, and rotate with the day. I enjoy the chili, my dad enjoys the clam chowder, come in on your soup's day and you'll be a happy camper. You MUST get the spinach and artichoke dip. This is quite possibly the best spinach artichoke dip I've ever had in my life. It's so good I would consider putting it in a cup and drinking a spinach and artichoke milkshake. I mean when rapper Young Jeezy raps about it, you know its good. All of the entrees are excellent. The prime rib is always juicy, and the hawaiian rib eye oozes with flavor. My usual go to is the cheeseburger as they are delicious and I really love the bread. The french fries are the skinny variety, and they are excellent. Honestly, I can't even tell you about the dessert as I never have enough space to put anything else down the pipe after my meal. I would definitely recommend this place to pretty much anyone. Whether its a casual dinner with your family or you're going on a date the food and atmosphere (live jazz plays) is excellent!

Need a good piece of steak in an instant? This is the place! We come here due to cravings, a little pricy but its great, they have terrific service, meals are grand and worth it. My boyfriend gets his 77 drink from the bar, I guess its the best one for him to get here :) Their crandberry vodka is a kick-off to start a Friday night. Thinking of steak?! Order it here... !!!

I don't know if it's Woodmont Grill, or Houston's, or what the name is, but the food is always always cooked to impress. Appetizers: House-smoked salmon is delicious and so unique, comes with a spread and small pieces of toast. Fried oysters are amazing and come in their own shells which is so cute. A little spicy but delicious. Even the spinach dip, which is such an average appetizer, is somehow made to be so incredible and more than *just* spinach dip. Entrees: I usually get the Hawaiian rib-eye, it's kind of sweet and it's a big cut of steak. It comes with coleslaw and fries but if you wanna get the fully loaded baked potato instead...go for it. When they say fully loaded, they mean it. The fall off the bone ribs are good too, as they are the easiest ribs to eat, super tender and mouthwatering. Their fish is good too, as well as the crab cakes, the burger and the Thai steak salad or even the salad with fried chicken pieces. But really, go for the steak. And if you save room, don't forget to try the five nut brownie--it's phenomenal! Service is very good and fast, considering how it is always packed and you definitely need a reservation for any weekend night. The atmosphere is a little dark even during the day but I guess that makes it romantic? But overall, great restaurant.

5 stars for the food; 4 stars for overall expereince. I recommend that you take advantage of being able to make a reservation. We did and were seated within minutes of arriving, however there were 20+ ppl waiting over 30 mins for a table Saturday night. Service was whatev- seemed like fake 'kindness'.. we still tipped 20%. Our drinks from the bar took forever and a day to arrive at our table (waitress said it was a technical glitch..) Food: OMG- amazing. Appetizer: Grilled artichoke (I've enjoyed this item before at the Rutherford, CA location). Main entree: HAWAIIAN RIB EYE- folks, I don't eat red meat because I have never liked the taste.. until now. WOW- had a bite of my BFs rib eye and now will return to Woodmont just for this dish. I ordered the crabcakes, which were good-- I liked that they had Crystal's Hot sauce as a table staple here :) LIve jazz was nice (started after 7pm..), and I liked the romantic atmosphere. Good for birthday celebration.

I have nothing bad to say about Woodmont Grill (Houstons)! I absolutely love this restaurant. I'm so sad that this is the only location left in the DC/Maryland area. I remember being able to go to Georgetown and Rockville to enjoy this Restaurant! Let me start by saying that I have never had a bad meal, drink, or service experience at Woodmont Grill. I have had most of whats on their menu and I have always been pleased. My favorite entree is the house made veggie burger! It is so filling and delicious. It is also huge. The spinach dip appetizer is also a favorite. The chicken fingers are not on the menu but you can ask for them and they are also delicious! The atmosphere is nice and sexy. The lighting is dim and a jazz band plays in the evenings. If you are ever in Miami, Florida please visit the Houstons on Aventura Blvd, the menu is the same and the restaurant sits right on the water!!

Hands down the best food and service around. They are quick, and their food and wine always blows anything else out of the water. My favorite dishes are the artichoke, spinach dip, hawaiian ribeye and the key lime pie. But honestly? You truly can't go wrong with anything here. Also they have live music every night. Can't beat it.

I have been coming here for years, and I come for one thing...the Veggie Burger. It is quite simply the most consistently delicious veggie burger in existence (and it blows away its neighbor at BGR). The burger is sizable, made up mostly of brown rice and black beans, there are some bits of jalapeno pepper in there, and also some chopped beets, and I think they bulk it up a little with oat bran or bulgur. So this is f'ing delicious and nutritious (unless you get it with french fries). They glaze the burger with some mixture including sweet soy sauce, but try it with their house bbq sauce as well. Worth mentioning as well is that the service here is fabulous. The servers are ALWAYS friendly and knowledgeable about the menu. It is obvious that the owners/managers train their employees to be highly customer service oriented. The place is always neat and clean, and do you notice that all the women employees have to wear their hair tied back? I have had some other items from here - spinach dip, cheese burger, chicken sandwich, baby back ribs, salads, a variety of vegetable sides - all have been enjoyable.

Was here Saturday night (9-22-13) and had what may have been the best prime rib I have eaten. Wife had Hawaiian Rib eye, also delicious. Great service, great food, great location. Had a few mojitos and they were prepared with great precision. I'm glad the menu is consistent and offers all the favorites. How I over looked the prime rib on previous visits is beyond me, but try it rare. It is excellent. The pricing was on par for the food. The crowd was an interesting mix of people, from suited to ball caps and jeans.

I'm surprised by the overwhelming number of 5-star reviews this restaurant has received. I'll start with the pros: I went with my boyfriend and our parents for lunch on Mother's Day (May 2012). We were seated immediately as a walk-in party of 6 on a busy restaurant day, which was surprising and excellent. The decor was attractive, the restaurant fairly large for a Bethesda restaurant, and the atmosphere was pleasant. Everyone was pleased to very pleased with their food. Service was fine. BUT... the lunch menu selection was small and prices were high. I ordered a cheeseburger for $15. It was decent, but I would much rather head across the street to BGR for a delicious $9 burger. My boyfriend enjoyed his dish, but shelled out a whopping $28 for a small filet of sea bass and wilted spinach. He complained that he was still a bit unsatisfied after scarfing down most of my shoe-string fries. Overall, I would say this grill is just fine if you're in the mood for a chain restaurant atmosphere complete with over-priced American cuisine. However, just as chains treat their customers, I found this place a bit forgettable. My advice is to head over to Rock Bottom, or even American Tap Room in Bethesda for decent American cuisine and friendly service at more reasonable prices.

This place has been my favorite restaurant since I was a little girl. The prices have steadily gone up but the menu has barely changed. Every Thursday and Sunday they have the prized, amazingly delicious tortilla soup. The spinach and artichoke dip is delectable. The one thing I do not like about this location is the lack of waiting space. They have a live jazz band but nowhere to put their waiting guests during their dinner rush. It is frustrating and annoying. They need to fix that. All in all, I have never been so faithful to a restaurant as I have been to Woodmont. The food is always perfect and as expected. The price you pay for the food is worth the class, service, and perfection.

I went in with my family for Mother's day. We had a party of 6 and were seated immediately without a reservation, which was an unexpected surprise. The food selection was fair, everyone at our table found something that looked good, however it was all a little over priced. The wait staff was very friendly and helped out quickly whenever we needed something. I ended up getting the sea bass that was on special. It was not worth the cost. It was sauteed in a butter sauce and topped with crab meat. The flavor was good but all I got was a very thin filet and a sprinkling of crab. I definitely left hungry. It was not a bad experience but for the cost and quality of the food, I won't be going back in a hurry.

I just had my first meal at Woodmont Grill and a 5 star rating just doesn't do this place justice. From the time I walked through the door the experience was unlike anything else in the DC area. The hostess and the waitstaff were friendly and knowledgeable. The General Manager came over and greeted our table, making us feel like we were royalty even though we had never met. The food came out perfectly timed and was better than we could have expected. Many restaurants in this area do food well, few combine that with a staff that is so well trained and friendly. I highly recommend Woodmont Grill and will definitely return soon.

I went to Woodmont with my family for my birthday and had a great time! Food was amazing as usual. The smoke salmon appetizer was great. French dip is as good as it gets and the Hawaiian rib eye was delicious. The service (Daniel) was friendly and personable. Overall, a great experience.

I was sad when the Houstons closed down in Rockvile PIke, but was delighted when I found out that the Woodmont Grill still served the delicious Hawaiian Steak!!! My fiance and I go there for date nights all the time. He gets the filet (which is also delicious) and I get the awesome hawaiian steak. YUM! PLUS their shoe string fries are great. I can eat there 6 days a week. Only 6 though cuz 7 days a week would be too much red meat ;) It's a bit pricey but I think its worth it.

This review is actually for Hillstone in NY where I went for my birthday in January. I was totally impressed with Hillstone. I had no idea that Woodmont Grill existed here in the area! I'm super excited to go! I don't have to wait to go back to NY to have my Hawaiian Rib-eye, yes! Oh and the Apple Walnut Cobbler was to die for! I will be making a trip to Woodmomt Grill soon! I hope they are just as good as Hillstone was:-)!

Let me start if by saying I'm a huge fan and have eaten at Houston's or woodmont grills in many states and possibly over 40-50 times now. I know how things are supposed to taste and hunger for them. With that being said, this particular location in Bethesda consistently has the worst food and preparation of any restaurant in the chain. The ribs were overdone, flavorless, and were a bit like meat jello. My wife's fish was super fishy (not in a good way). After last night, it's the last time we visit this location. Don't take this as a testimonial on the other locations which are generally wonderful with great service and food that I'd usually rate 4-4.5 stars on quality. Bethesda location: please fix yourself so I can satisfy my rib craving.

Woodmont Grill served it's purpose, but was rather underwhelming. I wanted a restaurant with a generic American menu and slightly more upscale atmosphere w/o being too expensive, and in Bethesda. This place met those criteria. What was not cool, was waiting an hour for a table. We had a reservation, but didn't get there on time (our fault) - we didn't realize we'd be waiting so long for a table though!! Needless to say we were starving by the time we were seated. I noticed that their veggie burger was noted in the NY Times so I gave it a shot. Big mistake. It was huge and so sweet. The accompanying fries were really really good though. When the waiter asked how our food was, he noticed I didn't rave about the burger and offered to bring me a new dish so I requested the similarly-priced smoked salmon app. It was pretty good, so all was not lost. My friends actually enjoyed their entrees, specifically the hawaiin rib-eye, the ribs, and the fish of the day. Still, given the cost and the delay in seating (seems its a common occurence), I doubt I will be back.

Yes, this is as good as it gets in Bethesda. By far the best service around. The french dip is fantastic. Fresh fish is always treat. This always get a "thumbs up" from everyone in the family. Free parking onsite is another plus.

I have eaten there for 15 plus years and everything is awesome. The staff is excellent and anything you order of out of this world. Desserts are amazing. My dad and I always split and hot fudge sundae and the fudge is imported from Germany. Can't say enough about this restaurant!

It was an unplanned destination after a failed plan a few blocks away. This was a dinner outing with one of my guys' friends...the guys had the steaks with loaded potatoes; they looked tremendous and smell fantastic, neither guy left a scrap of food, so I am thinking they tasted as good as the looked and smelled. Since it was late and I had to be up early, I opted for a bit lighter fare - the grilled chicken salad, which was light and satisfying. The nearly hour long wait seems very long to me for 8 pm on a Monday evening (not a holiday); but the place was packed. I am, however, going back for one of those steaks!

I hadn't eater here when it was Houston's, so my review is of straight-up Woodmont Grill. Sweet, attentive valet working the parking lot started the night off well. Slow but polite bar service dampened it a bit and it never fully recovered. Which is to say that the experience was fine. Not great, but fine. Our server was a little sloppy, but not unforgiveably so. The seared tuna salad was nice, but utterly unoriginal. The bone-in ribeye was better--I asked for rare, and that's how it came. Well blackened on the outside, red on the inside. A brownie w/vanilla ice cream on top was our again fine but boring dessert. If you want to feed someone who has no culinary sense of adventure, this is the place. And I mean that in the best way.

If you like Houston's then you'll like the Woodmont Grill. It's basically the same place, with the same menu. The staff is cool and nice ambiance. Nothing bad to say.

I was very leary about going here because I had an absolutely horrid experience at Houston's in G'town (i.e. daddy roach crawling out of my salad), and even though they changed the name, it still gave me chills. Had it not been my friend's birthday, I probably would've never visited this place. We had a reservation for about 6, and they would not seat us until ALL of our party showed up. You know there are always stragglers when you have group dinners, and even though there were 4 of us there for a good 15 minutes, they refused to seat us. Finally, we told them there would only be 4 of us, and they let us sit...after we waited another 15-20 minutes. By this time, we had been there for close to 45 minutes. Okay fine...it was partially our fault, so I won't hold that against them. Unfortunately, I have heard some really not nice things about how Woodmont management/staff feel about (and treat) minorities, but there were plenty of us in there, so I didn't want to believe anything until I saw for myself. I didn't notice anything odd, so I chalked it up to some disgrutled customer spreading their experience all around town. At least I hope that's the case. I really liked the ambiance...very date night'ish. But when I saw the menu, I couldn't believe how pricey this place was. So of course I was expecting great food. Wrong. It wasn't terrible, but we could've gone to Clyde's and gotten the same thing for less. I have been to Houston's twice, and Woodmont once and didn't care for the food at all. I don't think I'll be back...unless it's free. LOL

Suprisingly good ribs& excellent wines by the glass (try the Carol Shelton w/ the ribs). Even the side of corn was to die for.

They changed their menu and not for the better. I loved their traditional salad which is no longer available. It also seems like every time I go, the prices go up. This used to be one of my favorite American restaurants but it is not worth the money and the wait is always ridiculously long.

After a 30 minute drive and a 40 minute wait, we lucked up and landed two seats at the bar. I was sooo looking forward to having the grilled artichokes and crab cakes that I didn't want to wait for a table. And that's when the night went downhill. First, we were told that they werent offering the crab cakes bc crab hasn't been good this season (excellent reason but still sucks). Then, after we ordered the grilled artichokes, the server returned with "more bad news", informing us that they were out of artichokes. UGH. After I had a minor meltdown in my head, I sucked it up and ordered the grilled salmon, baked potato and kale salad. My partner ordered the ribs and tomatoes with blue cheese. The salmon was fresh and grilled PERFECTLY. But it was also underseasoned and quite frankly, boring as hell. The only other fish option was topped with crispy shrimp and I gave up fried food for Lent, so that was out. The kale salad, on the other hand, was the best I have ever had. EVER. My partner said that her ribs were perfect-- fall off the bone tender and the accompanying BBQ sauce was sweet without being cloying. She said they are, without question, the best baby back ribs in town. So at least one of us was happy. But I expected far more, especially for a $100 meal for two.

Oh Woodmont Grill, you impressed me and my picky family. You gave us an excellent server who knew his stuff and had buddha-like patience. He gave us a small wine tasting and helped us pick a red that paired with our steaks and ribs like a match in heaven. Everything down to the salads and fries were on point and the steak was cooked exactly to taste. The booths were round and seating was spaced right, allowing for conversation and comfort. One star away from total excellence...if only the menu grew a bit and the live jazz found its way around the restaurant without being supressed by noise...

This place used to be called Woodmont Grill, but now it's a Houston's. I thought it would only be appropriate to put my review here after the name change~ As you walk in, you'll immediately notice the the dim lighting, the white table cloths, and the live music to your left. I felt slightly underdressed walking in with my Tshirt and jeans. The staff here is friendly and will greet you at the door. If you don't have a reservation during peak dining hours, be prepared to wait about 20 minutes or so. I really recommend the Prime Rib and the BBQ Ribs here. - The Prime rib has a ton of seasoning and is slow roasted, which gives it a very tender texture. I ordered mine medium rare, and it came the way it should've - very pink. It comes with a side order of shoe string fries and the small container of the juice that probably resulted from the slow cooking stage. It's Prime Rib Au Jus!!! - The BBQ Ribs come with shoe string fries and slaw. The meat is very tasty and falls right off the bone. My friend told me this used to be called knife and fork ribs because you don't have to even touch the ribs to eat it. If you like BBQ, you should give this dish a shot! The service here is pretty good as well. The waiters checked up on me many times and have filled up my water without me asking (or even noticing). BTW...portions are HUGE here (see pics~)

Love, love, love this place. Always a great experience from the time you walk in the front door. Everyone is always so friendly and the food is consistently great, although prices keep rising and some of my old favorites are no longer available (Biltmore and Club Sandwich). The thing that I love most about this place is that you always know what you are going to get and it is always good. The staff is very well trained and super nice and there is free parking!!! Ask for Monica as your server...she will rock your world!

Absolutely love this restaurant. Been going here since they closed Houston's down in Bethesda. I am never disappointed. The ribs are magnificent. They fall right of the bone. The loaded baked potatoes are pretty huge and thoroughly stuffed. The crab cakes are to die for. This restaurant is pretty expensive most entrees cost at least $27. The spinach dip is the bomb and it comes with salsa that is also excellent but its $14, thats a lot for spinach dip. I go here anytime I'm in the area. It gets five stars from me!!!

Had a mini reunion with some former co-workers tonight. Definitely agree that it is mostly booths so not a lot of room for big groups. We made our reservations 10 days in advance for a Tuesday night reservation for 6 people and were told we would need to take the early reservation because the 8:00's were booked. That was what we wanted anyway so we were happy with it. Our group ordered: crab cakes, French dip, Mahi-mahi tuna on salad, prime rib, scallops, and fried shrimp and everyone was happy. The food was good--I had the fried shrimp and the accompanying cocktail sauce, tartar sauce and cole slaw seemed home made and were very good. One guest up from Florida wanted Maryland crab cakes and he was so satisfied. The service was perfect. Definitely recommend, but if a party of 6 make early reservations and small parties come early.

great food and drinks but a little pricey for me. I had a wedge salad which was delicious, as well as everything else i tried that my friends had ordered. They come and trade your drink glasses for chilled glasses in the middle of your meal which is fancy. Dark atmosphere, definitely perfect for a nice date night.

by far some of the best service in all of bethesda. the whole experience is great! parking attendant to the hostess stand to server, food runner, manager. friendly, attentive, really looking to make sure you experience fine dining. four stars because their food isn't always perfect and at this point, it is getting a little bit expensive to eat there.

I decided to come to Houston's with my uncle who was visiting from out of town. He was in the mood for steak, so I searched on Yelp and came across this place. It was a great selection because my uncle and I both loved our experience at Houston's! The atmosphere of the place was like a good old-fashioned, dark, wood-furnished steak house. For a Monday night, the place was pretty packed. Thus, if you are trying to come here on a busier night (especially if you have a larger party), call ahead and make a reservation. It looked like a lot of people came here straight from work for dinner and drinks. There was a live band playing inside which added to the old-fashioned feel (a symphony type band, not a rock band. just thought I should clear that up.) Personally I'm not a fan, especially if you want to have a conversation without straining your voice. I was sitting outside so this wasn't an issue. There is a parking lot on the side of Houstons (it seemed to be packed) as well as meters on the street. The meters only accept an hour at a time but I didn't see anyone ticketing/I didn't get a ticket in the extra 45 minutes I was there. Our steaks were great! I got the filet mignon and couldn't have been more satisfied. My uncle was very happy with his steak also. The desserts were also good. I loved the key lime pie (it was on the limey side, not a bad thing to me) and the hot fudge sundae was also delicious. They were very big too, so leave room! The prices were pretty reasonable- $28-30 for a great quality steak 'aint bad in my opinion. Between the steak, dessert and a glass of wine, our meals came to about $50 per person plus tax.

Great place to go for a business lunch. Not cheap, but the food is excellent quality (the salads are good but the veggie burger ($17) is fabulous). The service is good, brings you what you need, checks up on you, but isn't too much in your business. Parking in plentiful - free parking in their lot. I missed that and parked across the street in the public parking garage and paid $1.60 for 2 hours.

Why aren't they calling this place Houston's? It is what it is. The menu, decor and prices are all the same. What's the story here? Our food was perfectly fine. The bread on my French dip was a bit undertoasted and yielded a soggy sandwich after about five minutes of eating, and the majority of my shoestring fries were soggy as well -- either or undercooked. What brings this rating down so low is the service. Our waiter was very brash and couldn't wait to get us the hell out of there. Excuse me? We were eating at 6:15 p.m. Calm yourself. He forgot our ketchup and seemed annoyed that no one else had brought it to us. He only allowed us one bottle of water. He cleaned everything up while we were sitting there and chatting, even our water glasses, but insisted that we "take our time." Really, cos you've basically set the table for your next group. I still believe the best Houston's are actually IN Houston. Disappointing.

Every dish was very well prepared. The oysters were perfectly cooked, as was my Mediterranean Sea Bass. There was a lot of lump crab meat that came with my Sea Bass. My friend's prime rib and the apple walnut cobbler were also well prepared. The decor is cool, the live jazz nice, and the wait staff was terrific. Problem is, as well prepared as the food was, there was no "Wow!" factor. The sauces and seasoning of the dishes were just OK, nothing special. For the price (yeah, I know, everything in D.C. is overpriced...), I want to be able to say that I was "Wowed!" not just "competently prepared.."

What can I add that hasn't been said? Not much. Have never had a bad service experience here. The jazz trios take requests. The parking lot attendant Allen NEVER forgets a face. Introduce yourself and you'll see. Great bar area which seems to be popping Fridays at happy hour. Out of this world cappuccinos. Seriously. Enjoy!

This is one of my favorite restaurants in the area. They usually have a wait so I would recommend making a reservation. The staff here is very polite and knowledgeable about the dishes. The drinks are surprisingly well priced. The ambience of live jazz being played in the background is a great addition to your meal. The Hawaiian steak is one of the best steaks I have ever had. It has an amazing taste to it and is cooked perfectly. Also try the tomatillo soup. I went with a vegetarian and she loved the Veggie Burger, but they could offer a few more veggie dishes. but everything I have had there is delicious. Great staff, atmosphere, and food! Definitely worth a visit.

The first time I went there, I had the prime rib sandwich. It was good portions, juicy and the side was sufficient. Definitely a 2 thumbs up! However, I just went there recently early this month and was SO DISAPPOINTED. After reading many of the yelp reviews, I decided to get the Hawaiian steak. It had a good marinade, but my ENTIRE STEAK WAS MADE OF FAT. I wasted more than HALF of the steak because it had fat in it... essentially, it was more fat than steak (it was hidden in the middle). I didn't realize how much fat was in it, until I cut up the steak and it was too late to return it. If I'm going to be paying $34 for steak, I'm hoping that I would be able to enjoy more steak than fat. I was so disappointed, this isn't what I expect from an upscale restaurant.

I'm here every Friday night that I'm not otherwise engaged and have been for the past few years. I love this place...Kathy at the bar makes the absolute best Grey Goose Martini's. The Spinach Dip is the best I've ever had, and so are the Grilled Artichokes. I usually move onto the Ribs w/ a loaded baked potato, which are again (in my opinion)the best in this area. I also enjoy the Center Cut Filet, and the Hawaiian Steak, the French Dip is excellent w/ cheese and grilled onions, and the Thai Steak and Noodle Salad are my favs. Oh, and the Harvest Cheesecake (when it's in season) is a must have as well. The Harvest Cheesecake is so rich and decadently good that every Thanksgiving we order a whole cheesecake for our family dinner. For me, it's like when you add the deliciousness of the food with the best and most attentive staff it makes this place one of if not the absolute best restaurant in the area...

This is one of my new favorite places to go. I've been planning to visit a Houston's restaurant ever since I moved to DMV 4 yrs ago and I finally went this past weekend. The location, the atmosphere inside the place the food were all top shelf. I went on a Saturday afternoon so I didn't get to experience the live music. I can just imagine how the live music would make the place even better. I plan to go back one day soon to try other items on the menu. I sat at the bar where they offer full service. The lady who waited on me was OK but she wasn't all that friendly. Maybe I should say that she just wasn't all that personable. I've definitely had more outgoing bartenders than what I had that day. I hope I'm not being picky. I just like what I like. I definitely show my appreciation for great service when it comes time to pay the bill so in my mind, it behooves the bartender/waiter/etc to be extra kind, patient and helpful when it comes to providing service. I ordered the smoked salmon and it came with a dill sauce on the side and some toasted bread pieces. It was very good. I also ordered a side of red cabbage and a bowl of chili which were both very good. I would definitely recommend this place and I look forward to going again.

As much as they try to shove "Woodmont Grill" down out throats, this place will always be Houston's. And until something tragic happens, they will still have the best ribs on the face of this earth. Myself and family have tried almost everything on the menu and have never been disappointed. I just wish the Houston's in Rockville hadn't closed because the traffic in Bethesda trying to get out here is just terrible.

Their prime rib is really good but I did prefer the taste of the Hawaiian Ribeye. We went during dinner time on a saturday night so it was really packed. Still, our server was quick and very attentive. Parking was surprisingly hassle free in their private lot. The only annoying thing was that the hostess just assumed I was with another group of Asians and totally looked past me while I was trying to check in for my reservation, haha. I guess it's understandable... I guess.

Is Houstons becoming too complacent or was it just a bad night?! I went there with my boyfriend last weekend and was under-impressed. This came as a major surprise as I have publicly stated that I want to visit every Houstons in the US. 35 minutes after being told that we would be seated in 10-15 minutes, we were guided to a table. I expected a long standing restaurant to do better at judging table turnover. I ordered my usual - chicken and friends. Much to my surprise, I was told that they could not create it. After much back and forth, I was told that the reason was that they didn't have ham - something that I have encountered before but have almost always been offered an alternative. What's up with the staff?! The baked potato was good but much smaller than other visits. Is Houstons losing its touch???

Popped in here today for a late lunch after an appointment near by. I was seated in a booth, and a waiter took my drink order, which arrived promptly. I was ready to order after several minutes but did not see my waiter in sight. At a table near me several staff members were hanging out. It took a few attempts to get their attention to place my order. I ordered the soft shell crab po boy. I was informed some minutes later that they were out of the po boy. Instead I ordered "famous french dip". Essentially a prime rib sandwich w/fries on the side. While waiting for my meal, I had to get the attention a different waiter then my own , to get an iced-tea refill. My meal came quite fast. The fries reminded of fries I've had at Houston's, elsewhere here I read they are the same company now. Quite tasty fries, crisp , and lightly seasoned. The sandwich was filled nicely with moist, thin slices of prime rib, and mayo. Also on my plate was a bit of horseradish. I slathered the sandwich generously with it, as I love horseradish. I came in with a bit of a stomach ache from a recent stomach bug. I felt a bit more sorted out after the meal. Quite a tasty selection, but not worth the $19 price tag. The ambience was nice, cozy booths, low lighting, and a fairly quiet atmosphere. I may return in the future because I would like to try other dishes. However I was not impressed by the lack of attentiveness from my waiter.

It was packed for lunch so that was already a good sign. We started with the spinach and artichoke dip which came with tortilla chips, salsa and sour cream and that was good. I ordered the traditional salad with buttery garlic dressing and that was really good. If you get the salad with an entree it is only $5 instead of $11. For the entree, I got the hawaiian ribeye which was really juicy and tasty but I prefer a steak that is not too heavily marinated but it was still good. The side baked potato was huge and was also really good. Service was good and the place was nice for business lunch.

My friends and I came here for someone's surprise birthday dinner on a Saturday night. There is a parking lot next to the restaurant with a friendly parking attendant but the wait can take awhile on a busy night. Most of us parked in the parking lot across the street (free on weekends). We had reservations for nine people but while most of us were at the restaurant, they would not seat us until everyone arrived. This was the same for other parties ahead of us who had placed reservations but were asked to wait until everyone arrived. We explained our situation to the hostess and she was willing to accommodate. Apparently when the reservation was made, they had said there would be two tables for our party. The night of our dinner, we ended up all squishing together around a table. The manager insisted that it would still be fine when our food arrived. We could fit the plates, but had to turn them so we ate from one of the short ends of the plate with little elbow room for cutting. We ended up getting a few free desserts for our table to make up for the inconvienence. Our server was very attentive though we couldn't find her when we were all ready to order. I ordered a medium Hawaiian Rib-Eye ($33) and a friend next to me ordered a Hickory Burger ($17). The rib-eye was well marinated and had plenty of flavor. The meat didn't really fill me up and there was a lot of fat around the edges that I had to trim off. The steak was worth the $33 even though the loaded potato (that was bigger than my piece of steak) filled me up. I would have liked a bigger piece of steak and a smaller potato for the amount I paid for. My friend said there was nothing special about her Hickory Burger and it was definitely not worth the $17. Something that bugged me was how dirty some of the the silverware was. With a nice place like this, I had expected to receive clean silverware and dishes. Several of my friends and I were chipping dried things off our fork and knives. When a plate was placed in the middle for the bones for those who had ordered ribs, that was dirty as well. True, we weren't going to put food in that plate, but it would have been nice to have a plate that had bits of dried sauce sitting on our table. The waiter was very nice about getting us clean silverware and keeping our glasses filled. I might consider coming here again with a smaller party (six or less).

Personally, when rating a restaurant i feel that it only deserves a 5 star whenever it's consistently good. Not only that but it has to have the key components in check; Ambiance, food, service, pricing, quality and of course overall appeal. With continuous returns upon returns, this place is definitely as good as it gets. Years upon years, with many visits per month, there is honestly nothing i can say bad about this place. From the ambiance to service then of course the food that never fails to impress me. Yeah the prices are outrageous, but for the sizes and quality your paying for, it's well worth the money. After the Rockville location was closed down, it was devastating. That place was always packed, whether it was for lunch or dinner. Perfect location. And sadly it had to go because of some dispute they had about the pricing of the location. Once finding the one in Bethesda things were finally back on track! Usually my order contains of their; "House Smoked Salmon", "Famous French Dip" (for lunch), "Roasted Prime Rib" (for dinner) accompanied with the AMAZING fully loaded "Backed Potato". I've gotten plenty of other things on that menu but these are usually the usual. The smoked salmon's always delicious. Order an extra side of toast because the amount that you have to start off with is not enough compared to the whopping portion of salmon they give you. The french dip is always pretty amazing. The steaks as good as it gets with their salty yet flavorful au jus. And the roll that it comes on? Come on, it's crunchy and buttery. Then the prime rib is just plain sensational. Juicy, tender, full of flavor and huge considering it's served with the bone intact. But the thing that i crave the most from this place would have to be the baked potato. Literally it feels as if, they just made fluffy, homemade mashed potatoes and just stuffed into back into the skin then backed off. There is really nothing i can find wrong about this place. The service is also always great. And my glass of water never seems to ever be less than half empty considering they just leave a bottles of filtered water right there for me. They honestly know me to well.

The service and food at this restaurant is consistently good. I have enjoyed everything I've ordered here. For the quality of the food I think the price is fair. Portions are large. The prime rib french dip sandwich and garlic bread here are excellent. I've also had the Thai steak noodle salad, which was excellent! The steak was carmalized on the outside and tender on the inside. The salad was fresh and tasty. I would definitely return here.

Thus is very nice restaurant, formerly Houston's for my back in the day crowd. Nice wood decor w/ jazz playing in the background. My wife and I came here on a recommendation, and we were not disappointed. Our app was the spinach & artichoke dip. For dinner I had the prime rib w/ a loaded baked potato and strawberry shortcake for dessert. My had the lump crab cakes also w/a loaded baked potato and key lime pie for dessert. What a wonderful meal, expensive, but I think it's worth a little splurge. Make reservations, it does get very busy.

Absolutely without a doubt the best veggie burger I have ever had. Being a vegetarian, I have tasted several over the years, but none that compare to Woodmont Grill's version. I had it with the braised red cabbage with goat cheese, omg...so delicious!

It's a Houston's, the food was up to that quality service was as well. I've been to Houston's in Boston, NYC, and SF (fav) this fell a tad short of those but we had a nice brunch here on a jammed packed Sunday. The have a lot on the side which is nice but there is a municipal lot. The decor is subdued and slightly dark, again par for this upscale chain. The one negative for me was the fried Oyster appetizer which was far too crunchy. I can't fault the chef for imagination but the execution was not stellar, they looked good on the plate but we difficult to eat. * could be persuaded to go here again, it was comfortable enough. * stick to the Houston's strengths, burgers, prime rib etc. * smoked salmon app was quite good.

Bahia S. and I had a quick drink here during a Tuesday happy hour. The Caps game was on both screens, a jazz trio was jamming away in the corner, and there were two free seats waiting for us at the bar. Talk about perfect atmosphere! Sadly, the actual bar didn't live up to all that ambiance. When I tried to order a martini the bartender said, "well, we don't usually put vermouth in our martinis." Sigh... I guess no one's perfect.

I've been going to this place for over 20 years. I took my family again tonight and was expecting the usually top notch wait staff. Um, was not the top notch that I've grown accustomed to. Also, had to send my food back because it wasn't cooked the way I specified. The prices have spiked as well. The prices are now eye popping!!! Was my favorite restaurant but it's failing me and my family...

For what everybody makes this place out to be I wasn't very impressed. Went here for lunch for a coworker's bday yesterday. The service was just okay, the person helping us didn't look happy to be there. Food was okay. I got the grilled chicken sandwich. It definitely was big and a good amount of food for $13. Wasn't crazy about the fries that came with it. Looking at the menu, I don't think there are a ton of options and it definitely is pricey. The ambiance was okay, it is actually really dark in there. Food isn't worth it and the ambiance/service were just okay. For the prices they want to charge, it's definitely not worth it. Won't be back.

Smoked Salmon to die for. I could eat it every day. It's hard to go wrong here. Not crazy about the beef sandwich I had, but get me some ribs and a loaded baked please! You wouldn't believe you could get ribs like this at a place with a diverse menu in Bethesda, but they're awesome. For someone who prefers less bbq sauce and to get my ribs from somewhere that just does BBQ, Houston's is doing something right with these things. Like the shoestring fries and slaw too. Great service and the bar can pour a drink! Great specials. Great Key Lime Pie in the summers. You get the picture... they do a good job.

I have been going to Houston's for years. I don't know when they changed their name to Woodmont Grill but went there recently. The first thing I noticed is every employee had a smile on their face. The place had a nice upscale feel to it; more so then the old Houston's restaurants did. The food was excellent; very much the same menu as always. They no longer have the double cut pork chop which is what I always used to get. I ordered the French Dip and wife had Tuna Steak. They also take reservations which was a nice change from Houston's that used to have a 30-90 minute wait.

I was mad when they took Houston's down. This place have a very similar menu and the food still great! Went there for mother's day and I must say they did a great job, except, they serve my husband the same food we asked for my daughter, chicken strips. This place was packed. Still, service was good, took a little longer than normal but what else is to expect on mother's day. Server was very patience with us but was very busy. I had a 4 year old with me and he was very nice to my baby. I am giving it 3 star because my husband asked for a rib dinner and got a chicken strip plate. They offer to make the ribs but my hubby did not want to wait so that was a bit disappointing because i order steak and we planned to share.

3 of 4 entrees had to be sent back. Prime rib was way over-cooked, filet was way under-cooked, and ribs weren't hot, despite specific request. Given limited menu, they should deliver better. Cornbread and artichokes were great.

I am a big fan of Woodmont Grill (or Houston's if you're from the Midwest like me). The veggie burger is one of the best I have ever eaten despite the fact that it is incredibly messy to eat--definitely not a first date dish! The service is prompt and unobtrusive. The lighting and seating is perfection. We felt as if we were far removed from the full tables around us. The live band was also a nice touch.

This is a great place for business lunches (and you will see many business men and women there during lunch time). I typically dine here when I have a business lunch that I must attend. Their salads are AMAZING. My personal fav is the Grilled Chicken Salad (sometimes i substitute the crispy chicken strips which are light and fluffy and just plain GOOD). The reason I give them a 4 instead of 5 stars is because I am not a HUGE fan of salad dressing. Since I only like a TINY TINY bit on my salad (hey, I actually like the taste of veggies and lettuce and don't need it to be drowned in dressing), I am irked that they now only offer that salad with dressing already on it. They used to be able to put it on the side and bring it to me with the peanut sauce on the side as well. Now they can do "light" dressing which is STILL far too much for me with peanut sauce on the side. I have not had it but the Thai Steak and Noodle salad my boss gets religiously and swears by it and another colleague loves the cobb salad. I have had their burgers, both veggie and regular, and they are very good. I love their fries too. Hmmm... I also am a HUGE fan of their Baked Potato Soup and I get upset when I don't get to go there on a Wednesday since it is only served on Wednesdays. I have never gotten an actual entree here b/c let's face it, I only dine here for lunch and I am not a heavy lunch eater. Their spinach and artichoke dip and their grilled artichoke appetizers (they they usually have but not on the menu) are also very very good

A place with a clean classy look, along with the best looking staff I have seen in an establishment, makes for a comfortable setting. Tried the Spinach Artichoke Dip. It was fine. Just like Ruby's or Friday or used to be Bennigan's fine. Came with a side of sour cream and salsa. Served with tortilla chips and costs $12. The Fish Sandwich was huge. Big sesame bun, plenty of fish and very pretty. But it tasted a lot like Big Mac secret sauce. Less fluff and fatty sauce would make a huge improvement. 4 beers, app and 2 fish sandwiches = $71 before tip. Worth it?

Now I know I say this all the time if you read my reviews, but Houston's is my all time *favorite* restaurant. I've been eating at Houston's for decades -- Dallas, Memphis, Irvine, Manhattan Beach and now Bethesda. I love eating here on all the milestone accomplishments in my life -- graduating from college, grad school, my 26th birthday, my 30th birthday. There are so many things to love about this restaurant. The decor -- very classic, dim lit, sultry, sexy. The location in Bethesda also has live jazz nightly. The food is delicious and incredibly consistent. I love coming here because I know exactly how a dish is going to taste and that the standard is the same every time. My favorite menu items: Cheeseburger -- best burgers. Better than Ray's Hell burger. I even think they are better then some of the foodie burgers in the city -- but better in terms of closeness to the real thing without being over the top. Hickory Burger -- my favorite. Chicken Tender Appetizer -- not on the menu. But best chicken tenders fried in a tempura batter. French Dip Sandwich Roasted chicken and cous cous Knife and Fork Ribs Five nut Brownie - order it every time!

Are they against interracial couples or do they just don't feel the need to acknowledge certain types of people waiting for a table? Or do the hostesses feel like being snobs to potential customers? Let me explain. It's based upon tonight's experience as well as an earlier incident. I moved to Bethesda/Rockville this past summer, at the time I wanted to get my fiancee' a good meal. Woodmont Grill looked like a decent place but when we walked in...we were ignored. We were so puzzled. Our attire was in line with the locals (I'm a clean-cut guy and my beautiful woman was in a lovely dress), but aside from smirks from employees in the front nothing happened. The hostess left us there, and after a while we just walked. Now, Christmas eve 2011...My fiancee' was back in town so we decided to give it another try. (Hey, maybe it was just 'one of those nights'?) Again I'm clean-cut, nice shirt, khakis, nice shoes. My dear (who is black) has a nice dress on and a lovely coat. We may not look like lawyers or congressional staff but we aren't dressing like slobs. Anyhow, we walk in around 7:10 PM or so. The blond hostess looks us up and down, says nothing. Just ignores us. The scene isn't hectic, the staff isn't swamped. A black guy pops in behind us and is waiting as well. We wait, no acknowledgement from ANY staff. Then a lady comes in with family in tow, pushes us aside and makes a reservation. Viola! The blond hostess lights up like someone flipped on the switch! That whole time she was ignoring the rest of us. after that, it's obvious that the staff of the Woodmont Grill doesn't value us--so we go across the street to Black's Bar & Kitchen, where the staff greets us and show us how it's really done. What's the problem with Woodmont Grill? Some people sure seem to enjoy going there, but I guess those are the ones getting actual service. Unlike some places, WG doesn't seem to care. I'd understand if they were swamped and we came in wearing sandals and potato sacks, but that was not the case. We dress properly and we're courteous, the least we deserve is an acknowledgement and some service. Instead they made us feel unwelcome, which seems pretty backward for a business that lives and dies on word of mouth. Is this due to some failure on the part of management in training their staff, or is this the ACCEPTED way of doing things? Is there some unspoken rule we've missed? It's very puzzling, as we saw people being served who clearly dressed casually in comparison to us--fleece and jeans, for example. Perhaps the proprietor of this establishment wishes to make this place seem more exclusive. if so, he/she/they sure succeeded, but in the wrong manner. I'm not impressed.

Now that Houston's has closed on the Pike, I'm going to be forced to go to you guys for my veggie burger. Would you PLEASE go back to the old recipe? Something hasn't been cutting it at both spots. It doesn't have the sweetness it once had on the outside, it's not the charred sweet goodness it was, it also is missing the beet juice that made it pink in the past, and that's all I can identify. Maybe there are other things. Also the brownie was better at the other Houston's. I hope these issues can be addressed. Thanks.

The Woodmont Grill has not disappointed after my multiple visits. The crispy chicken tender platter (not on menu) is outstanding with fries and cole slaw to compliment (enough to lead to repeat visits). I love the grilled chicken salad. The key lime pie as well as the brownie with ice cream are each worth ordering again.

Ever heard of Houston's? Well, this is Houston's. Service, food, ambiance, and location are great! But, make sure you make a reservation if you're visiting on the evenings, ESPECIALLY on weekends. Made that mistake once, and two hours later we were sat, lol. But the food and service makes it worthwhile if you forget to make a reservation, but seriously..make a reservation. Now, from my experience I can recommend a few items and I can guarantee that you won't be disappointed. But I'm sure whatever you order will be delicious. For an app, they have the best and I mean best Artichoke and Dip. It's the reason I started to like Artichoke and Dip. For an entree depending how hungry you are I'll give you some options. Their chicken salad is sooo good and very filling. It comes with this peanut dressing and I think a cilantro-lime, very good! Or you can go with the French Dip, which makes any other dips seem just average. Then there's the rotisserie chicken and prime rib which both speak for themselves (I'm getting so hungry now). Definitely give it a try if you've never been to Houston's before, I'm sure you won't be disappointed. But be sure to make a reservation.

This has been my "special event" restaurant for as long as I can remember, going back to when it was called Houston's (it still is in every other city...odd) and the consistency of the food is why. Everything will be as you remember on your next visit. I've never had a bad steak here. Filet and Hawaiian Ribeye with a loaded baked potato. That's some high class comfort food right there. I often get the off-the-menu Chicken Finger platter (2 sides, I think $21) or appetizer ($12 with fries) and add the Thai Steak Salad. Strangely, the chicken sandwich isn't that great. They use a different batter than they use on the chicken for the crispy chicken salads and platter for some strange reason. Seared Tuna salad is very close to perfect. Veggie burger is delicious and messy. And the water! I raved about their "tap" water to some friends I took with me once and they looked at me like I was crazy until we overheard a gentleman at another table doing the exact same thing. I think its a triple ozone distilled filter or something. Whatever it is they could bottle it.

Going on a Saturday? Be prepared to park in the parking garage across the street, as it's crowded on a Satruday, therefore the immediate parking right on the side of the restaraunt is taken up. But the garage parking located across the street is free on Saturdays. The name has changed, but to me the atmosphere, food and service are still pretty exceptional. Sitting by the window in the winter, no problem, they'll warm your section for you. The staff are pretty attentive and responsive to your requests in a timely manner, and even when there is a long wait for a table, you have the option of sitting at their top shelf bar and watching their screen that may be playing a game on any given night...

Went here for Mother's Day and it was great!!!!! We had no reservations and got a table in less than 20 minutes. They didn't have my favorite drink....Malibu + Pineapple nor an Apple Martini so we had to settle for a Mojito (which was good). Got shrimp with cocktail sauce as an appetizer but the shrimp weren't peeled!!! I ordered the crabcakes and Mom ordered the Hawaiian rib-eye. Both were good and well worth it. It sucks that it poured down outside but this was A-OK!!!! Highly recommended.

I've been eating here for 20 years and have yet had a disappointing meal. This is the most consistent restaurant I've ever dined at and most if not all the dishes are excellent in most every way. My staples are the chicken salad, Thai chicken salad, Hamburgers, and Fish sandwich. Spinach Artichoke dip is the best, imo. Service is on top.

Had two consecutive above average business-lunch experiences here. Visit #1: Our gang of six was greeted politely and seated promptly at a spacious booth inside during the peak of the lunch hour rush. I had the Famous French Dip, which was quite good: real-deal thin-sliced peppery prime rib on a warm crispy French roll baked in house. I thought the au jus wasn't as hearty or flavorful as it could have been, but I suppose that's better than an oily or fatty stock that absolutely drowns out the taste of the meat. The prices were admittedly high ($17 for the FD) but everyone seemed to really enjoy their food, the general ambiance was very pleasant and service was aces. Visit #2: This experience was significantly biased by the fact that we got to sit outside on a gorgeous, unseasonably warm day in the middle of November. Nevertheless, the food was delicious and the service was once again praiseworthy. Our waitress (Beth?) deserves a special shout out. She was genuinely welcoming (as opposed to creepy-fake friendly) and always appeared just before we needed something (think John Turturro as Adam Sandler's butler in Mr. Deeds). Despite normally despising beans, I really savored my New Orleans Red Bean soup as well as my entree-sized house salad, well-dressed and replete with bacon (plus points!) and hard-boiled egg. The lunch soup+salad combo came in at $13, pretty reasonable considering food quality and portion size. Curious to come back and check out the dinner scene and the nightly live jazz.

I was so distraught when I went to the Houston's location in Rockville and saw they were closed. I was thinking to myself, "OMGosh... I gotta drive to Bethesda to get a good steak now?!" But thankfully, everything pretty much remained the same restaurant-wise. The decor was very similar, the food is still outstanding, and the service is top notch. Ive never really had a complaint about Houstons/Woodmont Grill. The two famous cuts that always have recommended and still do are the Hawaiian Ribeye and the DELICIOUS Prime Rib! If you are a big ole' carnivore like me, EAT THE PRIME RIB. It gets pretty busy on weekends so try to make a reservation if you can. Other than that, BON APPETIT!

BRING BACK THE CLUB SANDWICH! Was told by our waiter earlier this week that due to "quality control concerns by managment" the current menu will not include the club sandwich. Huh? How many people agree that the old Houstons' Club Sandwich with the Honey Mustard for dipping is hands down the best Club Sandwich in the United States? LET THEM KNOW! I will admit that the quality fo the food and service at Woodmont has always been excellent and was excellent when I was there this week. HOWEVER, just because you operate a restuarant in Bethesda does not mean you have to gratuitously jack up your prices- particularly at lunch (e.g., $16 Hamburger, $19 French Dip.) COME ON! Save that noise for the flash-in-the-pan restaurants on Pennsylvania Avenue. You're Houstons for God's Sake! Act like it! Not sure if the pricing strategy is designed to target a different demographic, or reduce the table turnover and maintain profit margin. Either way, it doesn't look good. And speaking of gratuitous price inflation - Pines of Rome in Bethesda ($9 plate of plain pasta with butter)! COME ON! Alas, that is a post for another day LET THEM KNOW. LET THEM KNOW. Sincerely, Peeved in Bethesda

The Bethesda Houston's has been a go-to favorite for my husband and me for more than 13 years, however since the "rebranding" of the restaurant to "Woodmont Grill" a few years back, we have watched the prices rise and quality of service and food steadily fall. We've put up with these disappointments for a couple of years because even the "new" Woodmont Grill was better than any other American restaurant in the area and we enjoy the atmosphere and menu, however our experience Thursday night will probably keep us from going back for a while. The prices seem to have undergone another hike and the usual friendly, exceptional service was just ok. My favorite Hawaiian Ribeye steak was thin and smaller that ever, my extra side of red cabbage was a whopping $6 and one of our guests, who doesn't drink alcohol, was charged THREE DOLLARS for each sprite he ordered. A consistent theme among all the negative reviews I've seen is the restaurant's inability to manage reservations. We've had the same experience over and over and it barely pays to make a reservation in advance as you still have to wait. Thank goodness for the jazz trio or I'm not sure we'd ever go back. Let's hope they don't start charging cover to listen to them!

Twice, we have visited...experience is very good. Steaks, Ribs....service..all as expected and the atmosphere for dining is perfect for a nice evening. If you are looking for a nice dining event this should not be disappointing ...

I've only been here for dinner once and I was very impressed! I ordered the Sashimi Tuna salad which was exceptionally fresh and full of fabulous flavors! The pan-seared Ahi was absolutely perfect accompanied by mango and avocado on a fresh bed of greens. My friend ordered the Thai steak and noodle salad, which looked amazing even though I don't eat steak. The prices are rather high but it's typical for the location. Since I've only had a salad here I can't speak for the entrees but they all sound super tasty. They also have a live jazz band next to the bar and the atmosphere is very fancy and romantic, perfect for a date!

My girlfriend and I come here for the spinach and artichoke dip and chicken tenders platter. Both are amazing, and make for a very nice (and inexpensive) meal before going out to to the bars on a Friday night. Atmosphere is wonderful, with a live music on Friday nights, and a bar to get drinks at while you wait for your table. Once you get seated, it is nothing but A class service from beginning to end.

This restaurant has all of the features you would expect of a fine steakhouse in Bethesda. Upon walking in the door you are greeted with a crowded lobby of eager foodies waiting to be seated. Rest assured, you can always veer left and head to the bar where service is quick although the drinks are a little costly. A three piece jazz band (piano, string bass, and drums) plays music while you wait, creating a relaxing yet cool ambiance while you wait. The menu choice is varied but has a good selection of steaks. The restaurant has the good taste not to make you pay just to have a side with you meat. I had the Hawaiian Rib-Eye which was a steak that had been marinated in a pineapple teriyaki sauce prior to grilling. It was cooked as I asked (medium rare) and the flavors of the marinade permeated but didn't overwhelm the steak. All in all, I would definitely recommend this restaurant.

Consistently Excellent!! Have been going here since around 1992 and have not had a bad meal, bad bottle of wine, or bad service yet!! And the atmosphere is really nice for an upscale, intimate date. Even though the name is now Woodmont Grill instead of Houston's, it's basically the same. One of the secrets of the chain's success is its quality control. EVERY plate that leaves the kitchen passes through a manager's hands. Service generally seems to be very professional, and seems to be a team effort rather than only your specific server. Would highly recommend the Hawaiian Rib-eye. It's marinated for 72 hours in pineapple juice and ginger. YUMMMM!!!!

I heard all the great reviews on this place, and I was excited to go, but man, it was quite a disappointment. We had a dip appetizer that was quite good, but after this, it was all downhill. The steak my mom ordered medium was almost raw, and the veggie burger my father ordered was burnt to a crisp. The shrimp my brother ordered was not crispy or hot - it tasted like it had been sitting out for 10-15 minutes. I had a sandwich which tasted bland. I would not come back here again.

The veggie burger is great... but I keep coming back for the ribs. Tonight all three of us got the ribs, and despite complaining "needs more salt" my friend cleaned his plate. Fall off the bone smokey meaty goodness, same as it ever was. Slaw, skillet beans and loaded baked potato were all delicious. And although she was not our waitress, Shalay (sp?) was inspired and funny - helping us get a great bottle of wine while we waited and checking up on us as we ate. And our waitress was great too.

Since I have dined at Houston's, now Woodmont Grill at least 50 times over the years I am very aware of any changes. My recent experience was disappointing as the martini's are now $15 each and the food quality has declined. I also experienced less attentiveness while sitting at the usually crowded bar on a Saturday night and even some impatience from the Barista. I attempted to order the fried shrimp, that they had run out of, and she sighed heavily as I tried to reprogram myself for something else that I didn't want. I ended up with the burger, that was good, but accompanied by the usual super thin fries that were almost cold upon arrival. Bottom line is that I'll be heading somewhere else instead next time.

One of my favorite staple restaurants even though they just changed their name and kept everything the same except for the prices on the menu. Best spinach and artichoke dip EVER. Smoked salmon appetizer is wonderful. Try the burgers. Get the Veggie burger. They have wonderful salads and baked potatoes too.

This restaurant is one of my favorite and I've been there hundreds of times. The servers are nice and polite, and have the knowledge to recommend. They have the most delicious chicken salad! Inside is little bit dark, but in general this is really great place with live jazz music.

Took some people I work with for Lunch and we enjoyed it. I was a bit taken aback at how CROWDED it got at lunchtime (Hey, Cut me some slack, I'm not from around here) and I had to wait 15 minutes even though I had a reservation which is kind of stale... The server was nice and put me at the top of the list for the next table.. Which is more than I can say for the crotchety old man who was super aggro about having to wait. They had burgers and loved em. I had the grouper Sangwich and it was tasty. Fries were good. Service was pretty good. Took a while to get my Iced Tea refilled, but the bill was surprisingly low, and I liked the space and atmosphere. You can tell they put effort into their food and presentation and I ree-speck dat.

The food is always great (salmon app, ribeye, even the burger!... and don't miss out on the brownie dessert-omg!!) the service is consistent, etc. Even walking in on, say... a Teusday night to live music... everything about this place is a Class Act! We made a reservation on Tuesday for a large table for a Sunday dinner. We arrived on time only to be told our table was occupied and not ready for us. Then we waited 45 minutes and the table was still not ready. Apparently the management has a problem telling people who wait at the table talking an hour after their meal to please leave as somebody else has a reservation. Bottom line is okay food but they don't give a rat's ass about you when you have a problem.

(previously known as Houston's, still owned by the same parent company) give me the thai steak salad, texas toast (free with an entree, but you have to ask for it and prepare for a side eye) and a coke, i'm in!! substitute the thai steak salad with a Hawaiian rib eye, i'm still in! i will and have eaten alone here, NO SHAME! love how clean their tables are! if you ever have an issue with your meal or service make sure to make it known to a manager, they will take care of you. don't come here for a large party, tables are screwed into the floor. The largest party they can accommodate is 7 thin people or 5 average people and they only have 2 tables for that many people, the other 3 large booths accommodate 4-5 people. wished they were on open table, but i guess going "electronic" would ruin the ambiance of "old school" that they want to upkeep. also, there's no take out (unless you say you're wife is going into labor and she's craving a steak, lol) outdoor seating is AMAZING in the spring, i would take my gf from work here for her bday and always have the best time.

My family and I have been going here for many years. It is so good! The spinach dip is AMAZING! In fact, it's the main reason why I love this place so much. They also have great steaks. Everything at the Woodmont Grill is delicious. The only negative thing about the place is that it is way overpriced. Currently, I believe their prime rib is priced at $28, and their prices have continued to rise over the years. Other than that, I can't wait until my next dinner there!

food was fantastic. prime rib, salmon, oyster's all simply fantastic. only drawback was the fact we arrived at 4:30 pm. and was informed that the dinner menu could be ordered from (size portions are one of the reasons we wanted the dinner menu) but dinner not officially served till 5:00 p.m.. dinner menu called for mashed potatoes but i was served french fries instead. no big deal until they charged me for the fries. asked at 5:10 for a sample for the world famous mashed potatoes that are never ready till 5 just to see how good they really were. still not ready :(. food great. only reason not 5 star is service and there desire not to accommodate the customer.

Good service, and decent food, but way overpriced for what you get. Went there with my wife, mother in law and kids. Couple of examples of overpriced menu - $4 for a 10 oz milk, $4 for a bottle of root beer, $20 for a roast beef sandwich with fries, $17 for a fish sandwich with fries. Ironically draft beer ($6) was a decent value, as was the wine ($9-11/glass) but the food prices put me off. I just can't justify taking my family there when there is not a $12 option for a teenager (chicken nuggets are on the menu for $10, but they are not an option for older children.). To be clear, the service was efficient and good, and the food was tasty. But the food prices are way too high and I did not feel like it was a good value.

EW~ Are all these other reviews for real? This place grosses me out. It's backwoods TX fine dining in an applebee's atomosphere with prices that indicate that they serve decent food. The only reason anything accidentally tastes good is because it's grilled - there's virtually no flavor otherwise. I used to come to Houston's often, but have since deterred my friends from making me go anymore. I have to attend a bday dinner here, this friday - BUT I'm planning on stuffing my face at the Burger Joint before I head over and just pick at a side salad through dinner (though they'll probably slop that up too). Ugh~ my mouth tastes the impending trauma.

My boyfriend and I have a tradition of going to the Houston's in Rockville for our anniversaries and special occasions. One such occasion took place on Saturday, and because the Rockville location had recently closed, we came to Woodmont Grill instead. We ordered the firehouse chili to start with, as this was the soup of the day. The chili was delicious, just the right amount of beans to not even notice it. I ordered the Barbecue Ribs that I almost always get, with fries and cole slaw on the side. I was expecting the ribs to be about the same as the other location, but boy was I disappointed. I'm easy to please when it comes to food, but the meat was not juicy and falling off the bone as I was expecting. This is my reasoning for the one star deduction. We were seated near the bar, and as the dinner crowd came piling in, it became very annoying as people started standing RIGHT NEXT TO US. The waiting area is clearly not enough to accommodate the amount of people that come in during meal hours, and this poorly affected my dining experience. The waiter was nice and checked in on us occasionally, but it wasn't enough to save another star from being taken away. I miss the Rockville location now that I know how much better we had it before. Why did it have to close?

My husband was angling for good prime rib, so we decided to give this restaurant a try. I'm very glad we did. We went on a Tuesday evening, so walked right in and were seated right away. If you are not a fan of loud jazz, ask to be seated away from the front are where the live musicians are playing. Our server was pleasant and nice. Food was delivered in a timely fashion. Prime Rib dinner was awesome. I ordered the BBQ ribs and the meat just fell off the bone. We will plan on returning.

When I went here, it was called Houston's. I sure hope they have the veggie burger still on the menu. HANDS DOWN its THE BEST veggie burger I've ever eaten... EVER!!!! LOL! Parking was so-so. Great date place. Hope this helps! ;-)

Delicious. Highly recommend. I had the Hawaiian ribeye and my boyfriend the bone in riveted. So good. A little pricy, but good for special occasions.

I love Houston's- full stop. When Woodmont Grill made the switch over to this thematic concept restaurant, my family and I began eating at the other location. All of the regulars were surprised when Houston's did not renew their lease at their location at the end of last year. My family had our last Sunday supper together in December. My sister, the firebrand, in our family started venturing out from the pack and began lunching at Woodmont Grill. The menu was slightly different at first; since the closing of the Rockville location, I have noticed that things have changed slightly, but this could be just my nostalgia. At any rate, my sister, a friend and I went in this Friday for our "Divas Supper Club" as we call it to catch up on all that has been going on in our lives. Our waitperson, Ross, was great and attentive once we were seated. Although we had a reservation, we waited for almost 30 minutes as Friday night is a bustling evening. This would have been okay had the hostess staff been a little more assertive in the process of seating people. The system seemed a bit unorganized as the right hand did not know what the left had was doing. For example, the woman who was taking walk-ins was not signing in the people that had reservations. We began to notice that people that had walked in were being seated prior to us as we had to wait for the other lady to return to her post. The food was delicious and we were pleased over all. I give it 3 stars because of the organizational issues. I will come back on a Sunday afternoon or Sunday evening when the crowds have waned.

I have been going here for over 20 years. In short it is consistent. Menu has changed little over the years (they once changed their meat supplier but they seem to have resolved that!). Although I go often, there is no sense of community about the place - always seem to be different servers and hostesses - but it is way better than trying to be adventurous and disappointed elsewhere in Bethesda. You get a great steak for less than the big name steak houses. I'll give them another 20 years....

The food is solid. The service is also very good. However it's overpriced for what you pay.

I had a hard time grading this one; it came down to childhood memories of Houston's on the Pike vs. Reality. Here are my thoughts 1. It's a chain 2. They serve good food, nothing great, but it's never bad. ever 3. The flying chicken platter still reserves a warm place in my heart... and arteries (it's not on the menu, you have to ask) 4. Their honey mustard dressing/dipping sauce is insanely delicious 5. The spinach dip is overrated 6. Nice enough decor, a little bland 7. Limited menu 8. The burgers are meh 9. The salads are good 10. The steak is not good. yes, even the beloved hawaiian ribeye; come on folks, it's supposed to taste like STEAK not candy. 11. The ribs are very good 12. The wait is stupid long on weekends that's what im working with.

I've been going to the Woodmont Grill, formerly Houstons for years. I even had my last birthday there. Last Sunday night was so disappointing that I will not be going there any longer. I ordered my usual, crab cakes with fries and coleslaw. The crab cakes were falling apart when they were served, the fries were overcooked and tough and the coleslaw was more like cabbage-slaw. The cabbage was hardly shredded, it was close to half an inch thick and the taste was awful. I believe they must have gotten a different chef? I don't know. The staff were fine but the food was not only not worth the price, but not worth eating. I now believe after speaking with a friend about the food, that it was reheated, thus the crumbly crab cakes and overcooked dry french fries. The server tried to put one of my crab cakes in a box so I could take it home, I had asked for a spoon to scoop it and he just came and tried to put it in the box with a fork and knife and of course since it was already falling apart, it crumbled. Sorry Montgomery Grill, hopefully you can change and let us here in Bethesda know, otherwise I believe you will end up like some other restaurants here and be gone.

I am giving Houston's 5 stars for the following reasons. 1. I grew up in that area and the food options are very limited. Seriously, it is, and has been the best "Americana" in Bethesda for-fucking-ever. 2. Houston's is always reliable and I find it to be quite tasty. 3. They have the best honey mustard in the game. I really enjoy the traditional salad with honey mustard dressing. 4. The Fire Roasted Artichokes 5. The black shirts somehow accentuate the breasticles. 6. Even though this place is now called "woodmont grill," it is still Houstons. I feel that for any coast-to-coast chain to be really good is a feat in and of itself. (The LA Houstons and Santa Monica Houstons were good as well. The breasts were better/faker?) 7. The main reason for the high rating though. I have been going to this place for at least 17 years and still look forward to eating there...and I am not a sentimental guy. I just love to eat. On the not so great side: 1. The wait is long on the weekends, although I feel that is more of a function of Bethesda having shitty alternative options. 2. I am on the fence as to whether or not it is overpriced.

I started with the ceasar salad that was a little to greasy for my taste, but was so yummy I ate almost all of it. The salad had an oily, not creamy dressing, and was pretty tangy, but in a good way. I had the Hawaiian Rib eye with a side of red cabbage with goat cheese, as suggested by the waiter. The steak was juicy, flavorful and cooked to perfection. Now the red cabbage on the other hand was pretty gross. I guess I don't like red cabbage anyway and I should not have ordered it, but he made it sound good. The waiter didn't hesitate to give me another side at no charge. The second option was the dirty rice. This rice is probably better by itself and did not go well with the steak. The waiter again insisted on getting another side, but I was getting pretty full at that point and I still had to finish my girls food. My girl got the filet. I thought it was excellent and I was happy that she doesn't eat a lot of food. The outside was charred and a little salty and the inside was tender and yummy. On par with Ruth's Chris. The baked potato that she got went well with the steak. I definitely recommend this place if you want to get good steak!

4 1/2 out of 5!!! First time to this establishment and I was pretty much wowed the entire night. Well mixed drinks, great service and amazing food to tease your palette. My girlfriend had been here before and recommended the Hawaiian Rib-eye (cooked medium) and I cannot tell you how much I enjoyed this selection. The only thing that would have topped it off and allowed me to give the the full 5 stars would have been if they offered Creme Brulee which is is my favorite desert. Parking is pretty easy with a lot in back and a public parking garage directly across the street. Oh, and GREAT 3 piece Jazz band the night I was there. This place made me feel like a rock star and I will definitely be returning sooner than later. - Cheers!!!

The service wasn't that great.. it was OK serice our server did not come back and check back with us at all during our meal. I personally think that place has turned ghetto.. it was just black people and doggy bags up in there.. lol.. but yea I miss houstons that's all I can say.

The food, the setting, the service, everything here makes it a perfect place for a nice dinner out. You get what you pay for, it is not cheap but well worth it. The Sashimi Tuna salad is fantastic and the Hawaiian steak is amazing. Always try the apps they have on special because everything they make is good. I had grilled artichokes that were awesome. Their Key Lime pie is magical. Live jazz music every night.

Best veggie burger of all time, as far as I'm concerned. I have been going to the Woodmont Grill/Houston's for many years, and have never had a bad experience. The service is excellent, the food is amazing, and the atmosphere is pleasant. Just a great all-around restaurant. I also love the couscous! I have never tried any of the meat or seafood, but everyone I've ever gone with has raved about the food. I don't think you can go wrong. HUGE portions, but that's what carry-out containers are for...

My husband and I had dinner here and we were quite pleased with the food, service, and atmosphere. I highly recommend the fried oysters for an appetizer - they're excellent! However, I would have to agree with some of the reviews about the prices being much, much too expensive.

Looking for the best in Bethesda? Stop here--your search is over! The ribs are out of this world. They're the only thing I've had in 5 years, but I've had a taste of lots more, and everything is fab. Must have the house salad with honey mustard dressing--I always ask for extra bacon...litle bits, but waiter always adds them with no fuss.

My husbands co-worker told him about this restaurant and he immediately went to Yelp and decided we should try it. Thus I made reservations for us and another couple to have dinner. The reservation process is fairly easy you just call in, we arrived on Friday night around 8 for a 8:15 reservation. We were told they were running behind. Around 8:20 I checked on the reservation again and told we would be next. However, 4 more people were called ahead of us, the hostess kept giving away our table. Finally around 8:30 we were seated. We ordered the spinach and artichoke dip for an appetizer and the couple with us ordered clam chowder. The spinach dip wasn't as big of a deal to me as people review on here, but the clam chowder got rave reviews. For the meal I got a burger, however my husband ordered the hawaiian rib eye as did his friend while someone else ordered ribs. The hawaiian rib eye along with the clam chowder was described as being one of the best meals ever, this came from a couple who frequents Ruth Chris and The Prime Rib frequently. As for my burger, well I do love burgers and this was pretty good, but I've had better. The ribs were falling off the bone, they looked amazing! The jazz trio played in the background but they are pretty un-noticeable due to the overall noise. The restaurant has a great wine selection as well. The ambience of the restaurant reminds me of Stanford Grill in Columbia, Md. but the quality of food is defintely a step up. We ended the night with the hot fudge sundae as dessert, its a must. They bring out a big bowl of ice cream and a separate container for the most decadent chocolate you will ever experience. This was no hershey's syrup, this was finely melted chocolate at its best. Woodmont Grill is located in a cute area of Bethesda, it's defintely a great place to try out.

As a flexitarian with a steak-eating guest, this was a good choice for my guest...and actually turned out to be a surprising option for myself as well. My guests had the prime ribs and a cheeseburger and I had the grilled fish with steamed spinach. The spinach had whispers of some grated cheese on it that brought out the flavor in an impressive way. The salmon was very tasty, as well. It was a large portion and I only ate half, and I am still full. Even the coffee was flavorful and came in a decently size mug-cup. Portions large, food tasteful, and options fair (but I say fair in a very good way)... And yes, they do have live jazz. One of my guests was a musician and was very appreciative. Next time, I think we'll sit closer to the musicians. I was pleasantly surprised because I think it is a chain! I would come again.

This is really one of my favorite restaurants to go to. The food is always wonderful, I really can't remember ever ordering anything that I didn't love. The fried oyster appetizer is super good, and I usually get the tuna salad (with mangoes, avocados, pickled ginger, etc)....I don't eat meat (just seafood) but my bf has gotten the ribs multiple times and the homemade chicken fingers (which are not on the menu, you have to ask) and loves both of them. The key lime pie is probably the best key-lime pie I've ever eaten as well--it's seasonal though, I think. The service is usually very good, the only downside is you generally have to wait unless you make a reservation, which we have learned to try and do.

You really find out what a restaurant is made of when they screw something up. As we found out recently, Houston's is made of above average stuff: My mom is a huge fan of Houston's tortilla soup, so a few weeks back on her birthday she said she'd like to have lunch at Houston's if they were serving the tortilla soup. As a dutiful daughter I called down to Bethesda and, after a few minutes wait, was told by the hostess that tortilla soup was, in fact, the soup of the day. Pleased with this happy coincidence the fam headed down to Houston's, got in our booth, picked up the menu and realized immediately that the hostess had gotten it wrong. Tortilla soup was, in fact, the next day. As this realization was taking place our server showed up to ask about drinks. She immediately picked up that there was something wrong, and asked if she could be of help. When we explained... mom's birthday, mostly there for the soup... called... was told wrong information... she apologized profusely and called over a manager. The manager listened to our problem, offered to call the Rockville location to see if they had the soup and to get us a reservation, and when we decided that would be too much of a schlep, told us our appetizers would be on her. This was, of course, the right thing to do, and she did it without a second thought. We were pleased. What really saved the day, however, was our waitress, who was also pulling double duty as the afternoon bartender. She was charming, apologetic, and funny, and cajoled us all in to ordering the actual soup of the day-- which we enjoyed. She, along with her runner, also took special care of us for the entire meal-- not once was a plate on the table longer than needed, not once was a drink ever less than half full-- and did so with grace, charm and humor. Incidentally, when we got the bill not only had Houston's picked up the appetizer, they also comped all four soups at the table. They had already won us over with the service, but this was a really nice touch. Mistakes happen. What's important is how you deal with mistakes. On this day Houston's-- and particularly the woman who is the daytime bartender/server-- dealt with their mistake in a very impressive manner.

Stopped after work with a couple of coworkers for drinks. We ended up hanging at the bar and having food as well. Reasonably priced, food was above average. It is a popular place, by 6:30 on a Tuesday night the place was packed with diners and several in the queue at the door waiting for tables. Several folks (as we did later) we having dinner at the bar. Your basic wood, kind of upscale restaurant look. Clean and presentable, kind of runs down the middle of restaurant design. Of note, the lighting is subdued yet it is easy to see around the interior and despite being busy it was not noisy and we could converse easily without talking loud or shouting. Decent place that provides decent food and seems to be a local favorite.

Is it Houston's or Woodmount Grill? Why do they have two signs...I'm so confused!!! I've been passing this place all the time for a month now and could never understand what was going on. But last night I finally got to ask the server, apparently it's both. Something to the effect of, its Woodmount Grill by Houston's. Before eating here I had to do the honorary tradition of looking it up on yelp and while looking at the awesome rating everyone gave this place I couldn't help but think how good can American cuisine get? It's it just burgers and fries, meat and cheese, etc right? Last night I was proven the possibilities and gained about 2000 more calories because I couldn't stop eating. Like people before have stated; it's a very small and limited menu. But that doesn't bother me at all because my thought on it is: it's better to have a small selection of food and to be able to serve it consistently with the greatest quality than to have a huge selection and be only ok at making it. Foolishly not thinking that the place was going to be THAT great I decided to skip the appetizers and go straight to the entree. I had the French dip while my partner in crime had BBQ ribs. Both cooked to perfection. The BBQ ribs look and tasted awesome and the meat just came off the bone like nothing . There was almost no need for the knife and I didn't get a single finger messy. My French dip was huge, I was thinking... wow would you like bread with your meat? Not only that the au jus sauce was yummy. At the end of the gluttonous meal we opted for the Sundae, again how good can that be right? Wrong, they use real whipped cream, vanilla bean ice cream, and top it off crazy good dark chocolate tasting fudge. Bottom line: Great food and awesome service, will be visiting again soon. Advice: If you decide you want to come here on the weekend around 6:30pm to 830 I would highly recommend you make a reservation (even if it's 5:00 and you want a table at 7:00). The place get crowded and waits are typically 45 min to an hour.

Had dinner here for the past 3 Sundays!! Love the prime rib and the baked potato. I always ask for the end cut. It is so tasty. Had the brownie and ice cream for dessert. Delicious! Food is consistantly good. Why 3 stars? The service has absolutely gone down hill, especially at the booths at the bar. Been there three times and all threetimes we have received slow and unattentive service. The wait staff acts as if they are doing you a favor by taking your order. We wanted to complain to a manger the last time, but management does not have a floor presence, They used to always walk around checking in with customers at the old Houstons. I would rate them at a 5, but just cant do it with the drop in service. You can eat at the Palm or Mortons for similar prices with much better service.

I love the vibe in this place. It's dimly lit, with a little live jazz playing in the background, but not pretentious at all. Solid wine list. I had the rockfish special which was amazing. My companions had burgers and steak, all of which they loved. There is a good price range on the menu. Definitely check this place out.

I really don't like their name but other than that...LOVE this restaurant. I love the Hawaiian rib-eye the best as my entree. The smoked salmon is amazing as an appetizer. This isn't on their menu but, Texas toast is pretty delicious too as an appetizer. I haven't had any desserts here because I'm way too full after my meal. The atmosphere is nice. It's always packed when I go. Friendly service, great food.

This restaurant is great, I love it, etc. The one thing that I want to add to the reviews that have already been written is this: BEWARE OF PARKING! There's a private lot right next to the restaurant, and a shady parking attendant collects $5 from you as you exit your car. Find street parking or park in the garage next to Black's Bar & Kitchen. You have been warned!

I know this may injure my reputation as a male, but the one thing I cannot get enough of at Houston's is the ahi tuna salad. The balsamic dressing is a perfect pair for the sushi-grade fish and array of greens. Have I maintained my maleness? No? Well, then I will also tell you that the Texas toast (get it? Houston's? Texas toast?) is simply fabulous--errr, I mean totally awesome. If I'm not mistaken, the T.T. was not on the menu and had to be ordered with a wink-wink and a nudge-nudge. It's a good thing I was with seasoned Houstoners (Houstonsers?) or else I would not have known. The wait can be a problem, especially during the weekday lunch rush, but the staff is always very professional and friendly, and the services is usually quick and painless. Of course, Bethesda is known for its plethora of great places to eat, but there aren't many restaurants around Norfolk Ave. that can serve up consistently solid food. ON EDIT: I have been informed (thanks Mary Kay S.!) that the word is "Houstonians."

Went there tonight and had the French Dip sandwich which I think is the best anywhere. I usually see folks here on dates or what not. I went tonight with a friend and sat at the bar. The bartender (forgot her name) was extremely prompt, polite and friendly. My friend and I both had the French dip and we both agreed that it's probably the best French Dip sandwich we've had. My buddy had the Key Lime pie after seeing the guy next to us get it. I took a bite or three of his pie and yeah it was good too! I've had the steak here before and although it's good, I think you can get some better for the same price elsewhere.
