This was an old time favorite for me back in college. Just up the road on HWY 1 at the corner of Powder Mill. However, it's greatly changed since back in 2000.... and the changes look rather recent for the better. They interior is much nicer and the menu has changed. Their Myoung Dong Kalguksoo is still their main dish, but it looks like they added a bunch of other traditional Korean dishes like bibimbap and soondubu. I of course ordered the kalguksoo and it was actually rather plain. Nothing special anymore. I remember the noodles being a bit more wavy and unique than generically store bought and the chicken a bit more plenty. But it was still a good tasting soup and not that far of a drive from College Park. So +1 added to my final tally for that sake alone. I think next time I'd try something else... I hear theres another Korean place too nearby worth a try maybe.

I went to Korea for a week in 2005, so I am obviously an expert on Korean food...or not. Ok, how about this: I remember two Korean words from when I was in 5th grade, so that means I know everything about Korean food. Hmmm...ok, I know nothing about Korean food besides: Korean food = yummy I've been here twice because it was on the Washingtonian 2007 Cheap Eats list. I don't remember what I ordered last time, but this time I got tofu soup. Maybe it was called soon du bu? Something like that. It looked fantastic at the table next to me, and came bubbling hot in a very fetching manner, but I didn't love it. Plus, it had meat in it. I'm not a super strict vegetarian, but I don't eat meat, so that was a surprise, considering it was advertised as tofu soup with seafood. My friend got the rice cakes and noodles in a spicy sauce that was fantastic. There were only Koreans in the restaurant when we came in, which I take as a good sign. It's like Udupi or Woodlands in Langley Park; lots of Indians so you know it's gonna be good. My friend had enough food to take home, but I finished most of mine, plus I ate most of the kimchee dishes on the table by myself. No, I do not weigh 400 pounds; I just like kimchee and pickled things. Sheesh. Would I go back? Yes, for sure, though I wouldn't order the same thing next time. I should have gone with my instinct and ordered noodles or the rice cakes my friend got. We each paid $13 including tip, which is a decent price for a Friday night dinner.

I love their Kal Kook Soo. I live far away from this restaurant, but I stop by every time I am near. I don't know about their rest of the menu, but Kal Kook Soo sure does hit the spot.

Ordered the whole fried chicken plus some spicy soup w beef n veg that comes with rice. The whole fried chicken is well fried but the meat is quite dry. The best part of it has got to be the skin. The meat is really too dry. Think they should try to improve on that. They should also provide some sauce for the chicken. The spicy soup is OK. Always feel very bloated after eating at this place.

Fried chicken? Oh yes. Since the death of the G-spot in Silver Spring, the best in the area, unless you want to get all Chauncey McFancypants at Central (which admittedly I do, but not for fried chicken).

How best to conclude a day of badminton and bowling?? Complete your triathlon by dining at Myoung Dong. Well at least that's what I did. You will feel like you need the appetite of an Olympic athlete when you see the sizes of the bowls here. Ok I must admit, this is my first time eating Korean noodles but even if I had fasted, I don't know how I could have finished the entire bowl. I had the kal gook soo, which was a chicken soup with noodles and vegetables. Yummy. My brother had the jam pong, which had a spicy red broth with pork and squid. He thoroughly enjoyed it. We both weren't able to finish our meals so we took the rest home for leftovers. These bowls were $9 or $10 a piece. Completely empty when we went in the mid-to-late afternoon. Also, they have lunch specials from 11 to 2:30 so we missed out on that. Hot tea at an extra charge if you'd like.

Went here again a few weeks ago and a few things are worthy of an update. + 1) The fried chicken is much improved. We ordered it right when we came in and it came out in about 15 minutes and the batter was delicious. $15 for a whole fried chicken cut into nondescript pieces so it's difficult to tell what piece you are eating - they could stand to learn a thing or two from purveyors of Peking duck who somehow manage to put the duck together again. The meat was moist and tasted like, well, chicken. Dip it in the salt/pepper/red dot concoction they give you and complement it with the sweet radishes. Delicious! 2) The banchans were still excellent, albeit still limited to the 3. 3) Service continues to be stellar for a Korean restaurant 4) The kal gook soo continues to be excellent every time. 5) They can put tables together to seat larger groups - I came w/ a group of 10. 6) The kimbap ($6.95) is expensive but has pieces of bulgogi in it. YUM! Quote a bit of oil on the outside though. - 1) I ordered the bibim naengmyun ($8.95) and it was a giant bowl of wrong. First, the sauce tasted like spicy butt. Although I've never tasted butt, I imagine this is what it would taste like if you sat in hot peppers for the better part of half an hour. Second, they gave me one piece of meat! ARGH! Wrong! Wrong! Wrong! It's still cheaper than Yett Gol's, but now I'd have to recommend YG's. 2) The bibimbap continues to disappoint. Solid Korean food in Beltsville. Definitely worth a visit for the fried chicken alone. Stick w/ the kal gook soo and you'll likely enjoy your meal here.

I had the Tteok Man Doo Guk and it was pretty damn good. The prices were reasonable and the service was quick. A good lunch spot. I'm not too crazy about the decor/setup, as the tables are layed out like a fast food joint, but this isn't a fancy restaurant so I can forgive that. I recommend it if you need a quick Korean fix and are in the area.

The Myoung Dong has been a favorite of mine for at least ten years. My dad and I used to come here regularly back at the old location. My favorites include Ja Jaeng Myun and Bebim Myun (I think), but I would recommend almost anything on the menu. The portions are HUGE, prepare to take some home. The free platters they provide (kimchi, pickled radish and something else) are delicious and plentiful. The atmosphere is bright and spare, and encourages eating. A real find in otherwise food-poor Beltsville!

This feels like you're going to your friend's parent's house for dinner. The home feel and service is just great and the owner makes you feel like you are her only customers even if there are several other tables occupied. And the food always comes out super fast. Definitely one of my favorite places in the area for a quick dinner.

Awwwwesome!!! I'm coming back for more kimchi and the rice cakes. I was hungry and forgot to post a picture - I'll do it next time.

This was my first real taste of a Korean food by a Korean Restaurant. I really liked it. What made it a nice experience was the owner who happened to be our server. She was supper friendly. The kimchee was the best I've ever had. That doesn't say much because I only had it once or twice before. I got the Spicy Steak soup. It was very good. I recommend. We (my group) got the seafood pancake. Wow!!

fried chicken is the best. but they don't alcohol license so no beers there

I ordered Be Beam Bab here with my friend who ordered the Ja Jang Mung. Honestly speaking that's not the real Be Beam Bab and Ja Jang Mung (I am an expert in Asian food....), the Be Beam Bab tastes fine but the Ja Jang Mung does not really. For those who want better noddles, I would definitely recommend Da Rae Won, which is close to this restaurent.

I came here with the Yelp offer. We were the only people in the restaurant. Myoung Dong had very respectable Korean cuisine at very reasonable price points. The soondubu jigae held its own and my plain chicken soup with chewy (very fresh) noodles was excellent. I would certainly come back.

  • Cha C.

I am not familiar with the area and yelped this place. I thought it was the Myoung Dong chain that has the famous kal guk so. I read wrong.. hahah but, it was great after a long flight. the broth was clear (not starchy like it should be) but it tasted great. you could tell they put care into making the food. I will come back and try the other items on the menu.

I ordered their Ja Jiang Mian and my husband ordered seafood tofu soup. They were both fabulous. The waiter was very friendly and their free appetizers were tasty as well. Just when our food was served, we saw a posting on the wall for their kimchi fried chicken. We are definitely go back for those!

Hidden in a non-descript suburban shopping center, behind an even more non-descript sign (Oriental Noodles) lies this great gem. But I decided to take a risk and head into the place a couple of years ago and I have never regretted heading there. It is reasonably priced and the service is very good and prompt. Every meal comes with the Korean standard, kimchi and some of its cousins. You cannot go wrong with anything to my experience. I would strongly recommend the dumplings, they are just awesome!

Great place to get Korean. It's located in a plaza that would be pretty difficult to notice. It's small but has so much to offer. The waiter we had was so nice. My Ja Jang Myun was on point, and my girlfriends bulgogi bento box thing was so good. They usually have a $16 for $20 deal on here, so take advantage of it. Lunch for me and my girlfriend totaled less than $25, pretty good for a Korean spot. Definitely coming back to try their fried chicken!

This place has the best Korean soup in the Beltsville area. We go here if we can't go to Annandale, Va or Columbia, Md. You can never get wrong with their soups, hot or cold, spicy or mild; they are all good. Husband likes the chicken noodle soup. It's the kind of soup that always hits the right spot. I always order the cold noodle in black bean sauce (I think). This dish is perfect during the summer. Try the fried chicken too. Its crunchy and very tasty. Just be patient when you order it, it takes them a little longer to cook it. They do not give a lot of banchan. I think there's only three - kimchi, cucumber and radish. The best radish you'll ever have. I have not had this in any other Korean. Always asked for banchan refill they are pretty good in giving you more. The service is superb in this tiny whole in a wall restaurant. The owner often comes out from the kitchen to make sure you are satisfied with the food and service.

I stopped here by accident and that was the happiest mistake of my life. I had never tried Korean food before. I was afraid of how it might taste. I always said, "No thanks!" to offers from my Korean friends. I feel so dumb now! The food is so great! Going there with a small group is nice. It's a weird place that is sort of carry out, sort of dine-in with a server? The food is nice and reasonably priced. I had beef bulgogi to go once and I finished the whole box, while driving, using chopsticks. Granted there is always a lot of traffic on Route 1, so there was plenty of stopping to finish my meal. I would definitely recommend this place. :)

Needing Korean food badly, we decided to try Myoung Dong. It was beyond surprisingly good. Shin the server, was very nice and had a chat with us about their banchan. My boyfriend has gotten into the idea of pickling things and wants to make pickled daikon radish so they discussed the merits of kimchi. She told us they were homemade. We ordered fried dumplings, a rice dish, and the whole fried chicken. I know some people have said they felt it was dry. We didn't have that experience at all. Everything was very tasty. Service was great. We will definitely go back. I think my boyfriend thinks he's going to sweet talk her out of their kimchi recipe. I think he's probably wrong, but I'll enjoy the food while he tries.

Myoung Dong (or "Oriental Noodle," as their sign advertises) is our go-to restaurant for reliably tasty and affordable Korean food. This place regularly receives mention in places like Washingtonian's Cheap Eats list - and the decor reflects that! They've posted plaque-mounted copies of those reviews on the wall next to nearly every table in case you momentarily forgot how much DC foodies love Myoung Dong. The restaurant used to be in an absolute hole-in-the-wall until this shopping center was torn down and rebuilt. Their current space is large and holds plenty of tables. Nothing fancy, but I'm there for the food! Their mandoo (dumplings) are simple and tasty. Every table gets a free assortment of kimchi and other pickled veggies - we love their kimchi recipe and usually buy a large takeout container of it to enjoy at home. We especially love the bibimbap, an assortment of veggies, meat, egg, etc. on top of rice. We always get that and one other entree - we've been making our way through the menu and trying something new each visit. Some of the soups with buckwheat noodles are very tough to eat (literally, the noodles are so chewy). The fried chicken is an INSANE amount of food and a bit overwhelming, even for two people. I always save room at the end for a Viennese iced coffee, which gives me an hour-long caffeine buzz no matter the time. I always leave Myoung Dong full and happy.

Being a Korean, I feel that I have to tell people that my thoughts on this restaurant will probably a bit more...elitist than most. That being said, this place was not good. Charging $12.95 for 12 store bought (or at least that seemed like the quality) dumplings seems like quite a rip off all right. The Gyoza from Trader joe's taste the same, and I'd actually prefer the frozen store bought kind from the Korean market. The banchan provided is a joke, and the kimchi not in the least bit spicy. I had the YookGae Jang, which is a type of spicy beef stew. It was not at all spicy, and I got skimped out on the veggies/meat in the soup... If this had all cost $4.95, I'd say it was okay, but for this place to be regularly mentioned on the Washingtonian's list of Cheap Eats reflects the bad quality of the food in this area, I think. Overall, I cannot recommend this place at all.

Since we couldn't find any good Korean food in dc, we decided to drive out. Based on positive feedbacks we tried this place. Food was ok. But it seems like they used a lot of clolax to clean things. I was actually able to smell and taste clolax while I was eating. It kind of made me sick. Place was too far from dc and I just wasn't impressed. We all felt like we waste money and time. They played music through 70s radio station via old radio. It was too loud and static was just awful. Giving me headaches.

This Korean Noodle restaurant in Beltsville is very yummy. I especially like the dumplings (mandu) and chicken noodle soup. Actually, I think it is the best chicken noodle soup I've ever had. Also, the Panchan (kimchee, etc.) is awesome. I've only been here for dinner and it's not been too crowded but I hear it gets very busy during the weekday lunch hour. Rumor (and a review from Washingtonian magazine) also has it that they make a mean fried chicken but it takes about 20 minutes so you have to call ahead or wait a while. Service is friendly too - highly recommended.

The service was very nice - the banchan (kimchee, cucumbers) were refilled, and the waitress was very sweet and polite. I had the dumplings and the chicken noodle soup - the dumplings were pretty good but the chicken noodle soup was outstanding. Try it out - its worth the drive many times over

For me dining is part atmosphere part taste. But what I like most about this restaurant is that you end up feeling like part of the family. Having lived in Korea for a year as a teacher and wanting to introduce my 7 year old son to Korean food I choose this restaurant because of all the Korean restaurants I visited in this one they treated me with respect and kindness. Bimbimbap, Kal Guk Su, and Kim Bab are our favorites. I also love their Duk Boki.

  • David S.

I thought the Fried Chicken was ok and would have to agree with Su K and say the batter was great. Feels like home cooked fried chicken.... It is a tad on the dry side and doesn't come with any sauces but for 15 bucks what do you want anyway? The place smells like nasty after mexican food farts but its clean and the ladies are real friendly.

Came in here because I was craving tofu soup $9 (soondubu?). I was satisfied but it wasn't all that good. The seafood didn't seem fresh and it wasn't spicy enough for my liking. They didn't give you an option of spice level. My husband got the stone pot bibimbap ($12)and he said it was only okay. In addition to our entrees, there was a small spread of banchan (4 side dishes). It didn't appeal to me so I didn't really eat it. Overall, a decent dinner but it didn't compel me to come back anytime soon.

I always pass-by on my way to Silver Springs. Finally decided to check it out for late lunch. Tried the cold noodles since was a hot day. I tried this in Hawaii with Korean co-workers in the past. All I remember it was too pricey for me.?.

The sign reads "Oriental Noodle" on the outside, and if you look closely, you'l see the name in lights framed in the window "Myoung Dong"; be on the lookout... Myoung Dong: a small, cafe sized, Korean hideaway; nestled in a shopping center, that time forgot, slinging some tasty and Authentic Korean dished that warrant a visit to the Beltsville Hot Spot. I'm having an exceedingly difficult time writing this review as I am not able to find the menu online. All of the dishes are named in Korean as well... so I'll do my best to describe them to you, and it will be a game for you to figure out what they were when you go. From my favorite to least favorite 1. Spicy Pork Dish- the pork is seasoned perfectly and comes to the table sporting a bright orange color. Vegetables are mixed in the stir fry and the entire protein portion is put over rice. A small salad is served with this dish in addition to two dumplings. A well balanced spice and a umami level savoryness earn this dish my top accolades. Rice is cooked perfectly, and the pork is toothsome but not tough by any means. 2. Fried Chicken- A whole fried chicken comes to the table in grand presentation. Mounded golden heaps of crispy deliciousness. Put in this order first as the chicken takes 15-20 minutes to cook. The dish is well worth the wait. Battered in something very close to a tempura, the chicken is crunchy with lack of the common fried-shards. The rounded coating makes the chicken quick and easy to eat. Careful when it comes to the table, it is HOT - as in fires of Mordor hot. Paired with the kimchi, pickled daikon, or Myoung Dong Salt... it's even more delicious. 3. The Soup- We got a soup that had dumplings in it, seaweed, a few sparse pieces of of brisket and large thin pieces of a gummy noodle that was cut on the bias (they look like thing scallops). Add a little soy to this soup and maybe a little of the magic salt, and you're in for a treat. 4. Noodle in black bean sauce- The dish I ordered, equating it to a dish I'm have before called Zha Jiang Myun, was nothing of the sorts. A thick crude oil like sauce covered the noodles, an overwhleming amount of onions and green peppers. Pork throughout the dish was hard to find and identify. The sauce was just not flavorful. Once the salt was added, a bit of flavor was brought out, but just not the right flavor. Special Mentions: The magical salt. I don't know what's mixed into this delicious seasoning salt they give each table. Looking closely you can see long crystals of some compound. The salt is tinted red and has the acidic taste of sumac. I think that there might be some benito in this b. You can take home 24 oz containers of pickeled daikon or kimchi for 5.25. Now, that's a deal! Some salt and daikon were welcome company of a few over easy eggs this morning.

It would be amiss to eat at a Korean restaurant without trying their Mandu or Stuffed Dumplings. For many years, I would order their lunch specials, and the dishes would arrived with a couple of these fried small bites as part of the combination. Each time, I was taken aback by how good they were. So, on one visit, I placed an order from the appetizer section which comes in either 6 or 12 pieces. This separate order only reaffirmed my take on them: the perfectly crispy thin skin encapsulated a meat stuffing that was both fragrant, with a good hit of white pepper, and savory at the same time, making one to savor every morsel of these tasty delights. As if these dumplings were not good enough, there is a side sauce that takes them beyond the stratosphere with the flavors of soy sauce, rice vinegar, sugar, and perhaps Mirin, making it a completely sippable elixir. These small fellows do make big strides indeed on the tongue with their awesomeness. Lunch time is usually the time for my visits to this place in order for me to take advantage of the reasonably priced lunch specials. Most of the offerings are marinated meats served in Bento-styled boxes. One of my favorites is Spicy Pork. What arrives is grilled meat tasting spicy from a good marination with some chili paste and slightly sweet to balance the heat, mixed with some sweet peppers and onions. What I appreciate about the meats here is that they are properly marinated for a length of time before sweating it out on the grill; the same goes for the beef and chicken orders. Accompanying the meat are usually some rice, a simply crispy salad, those irresistible fried dumplings, some pieces of fried tofu in sauce, and a slice of fruit - a true balance of Ying and Yang. With those delectable side dishes to go along with the main dish, what more could I ask for during my lunch time? To read rest of review and see photos, check out my blog at Wongeats.

I think the 2 star rating speaks for itself. What else can I say!!!! Only thing I could rate is the dish I had-Jae Jang Myun. It was not good! It was more like a soup! One of the worse I've had in a restaurant.

Whether it's to/from a trip to IKEA or Da Rae Won down the street...this is a must when I'm in the area. Tucked away in a sleepy shopping center in the shadows of CVS, don't let the little sign deter you from coming in for some home style korean grub. I won't go into detail about the other korean dishes but this star of this place is the WHOLE FRIED CHICKEN. This is korean style- a broken down, cut whole fried chicken, generously battered and served bones and all with some special salt and pickled radish (moo in korean). However in my humble opinion, I think this chicken tastes the best a couple hours later, served room temp with that cold bite of pickled goodness. Call 30 minutes ahead and get a whole chicken to go...I have one waiting for me in the back of my car right now ;)

Technically their food is 4 stars but their extraordinary service makes up that last star so I'm giving it a 5-star:) Their Kalguksoo is good but nothing special. However, it's good enough that you will crave for it when the winter is around the corner. I'm definitely going back for it soon. The service was really nice. I'm the kind of person that doesn't like to be asked every single second. It's not that they were ignoring me or anything though. The lady was really nice and knew what I needed when I needed. Will I go back? Yes.

Myoung Dong is tucked away in the corner of a strip mall in Beltsville. If you don't know about it, you'd definitely miss it. They do a great lunch and it's pretty much spot on for home cooked Korean (but not home cooked unless you live there). I've never had a bad meal there, and it's one of my quick go-tos for Korean food in a pinch. The service has always been great for me, although I do remember that one time, two orders got messed up and both people were not disappointed by what they got! If you want a no-frills good Korean meal, head here. I don't think I've ever been there when there has been a line, or even not an open table for me to sit in. Sure, there are other places that are better for certain dishes, but if you need to get your Korean fix on, you can't beat it.

Friendly and good food. This was my first time here and I enjoyed it. Not very many people here when we were here. We had the fried chicken and rice and sweet white radish pieces, and some other things. Overall good. Maybe I'll be back.

The food is ok. Nothing special. But the service is very good. It's clean. I agree the menu is quite expensive for the quality of food and the ambiance.

Great soon du bu and beef soups. Don't understand the fried chicken hype, it was really so-so. We kept wondering what the deal was. The bibim bap is terrible - they use some sort of ground beef, and a tiny sprinkling of it, instead of the pieces you usually get. I found the "bento" style lunch specials super boring, but my coworkers liked them okay.

  • Rebecca G.

I LOVE this place. I found it on lunch break one day and have quickly become addicted to the boxed lunches. The place is spotlessly clean and staffed with polite and attentive staff members. I arranged a group dinner there for my company's chiefs and they were also extremely pleased with the service, attention to detail and quality foods. It is BYOB so be sure to bring a bottle or two to enjoy along with your meal. I do not have a single negative thing to say about this fantastic restaurant.

I'm guessing people in this area haven't had really good Korean food before. I was so disappointed with this place. The beef bulgogi and sondunbu was so basic. And this is the only Korean restaurant I've been to that only had 3 side dishes. ONLY 3! I was so disappointed. If you've had the chance to experience a great Korean restaurant and you want really good Korean food, I wouldn't suggest coming here. And everything was so EXPENSIVE! Also, they had a dog behind the counter. And then the dog came out into the dining room and greeted some people at another table. I was so grossed out. I was in the area for the first time and I thought I could trust the Yelp reviews but this place turned out to be such a bust.

Small joint that has been upgraded with a huge tv but they only videos or recorded programs. The lady who runs the front is friendly and offers up suggestions for 1st time visitors. I like their jajangmyun, cholmyun, and kalgooksu. They're my staples for a quick noodle fix.

Official name of the soup of the gods...Soon Du Bu. Absolutely fantastic. It came out bubbling from the oven and was served with 3 salads - kimchee, spicy cucumbers, and sweet radish. Will come back here again and again for this dish!

I go to this place for tofu soup with seafood every weekend! Very reasonable price.

    (5)
  • Peter P.

The whole conversation during dinner was about how small their serving portion and the price they charge. $13 for a plate of cheap noodles... about half the plate... and if the dish is served with a type of meat... it's like they sprinkled a teaspoon of meat onto the dish. 4 people... paid around $60 5 dishes... everyone was starving afterward and we went somewhere else to eat. Food wasn't bad, but out of the sounding Korean restaurants this is last on my list. I recommend the ones around 7-11 down the street.

Bright little space with landscapes and Washingtonian Cheap Eats reviews on the walls, much nicer than they had before the shopping center was rebuilt. Cucumber, bok choi, radish, and kimchee sides, all pretty standard. The house chicken noodle soup is nicely presented, with two kinds of noodles, light clean broth, and lots of white meat chicken shreds. Two chili sauces for those craving capsicum. Tea is the standard Korean barley. Noodles are al dente, chicken is tender. Not bad place to drop in on a wintery evening, a fine alternative if you're not quite in the mood for pho Didn't notice it on the menu, but soju is available.

  • Tonny T.

I feel like I ordered the wrong thing and normally at noodle restaurants anything with noodles should be right. But the black bean noodles wasn't and just like everyone else I'd rather go up the street for that. This experience also included hot plastic smell served with the roasted barley tea. However where this place earned stars is from what my cousin ordered, the seafood soup, and it tasted good. On the other hand, aside from food, two chainz was playing on the radio, "no lie"

This place is a gem in a culinary wasteland. Well worth the trip, dynamite food and top notch service. Do yourself a favor, forget the bland chain restaurants and go outside the box and enjoy real food cooked by real people. The place does not have a liquor license so don't forget to BYOB

Great place to have a delicious meal. Been going there for more years than I can remember and have never been disappointed.

Decor: Minimal... it was hard to find the place as you drove by as it was tucked behind the CVS. They don't have an official sign. Service: Not bad. The lady was nice and food came out hot. She split the check with no problems. Price: One could be a little put off by this, but you definitely get your portion size equivalent, so don't fret. :] Found this place on Yelp and decided to try it out. Chicken Noodle soup: The best I've had in a long time. The broth was not to heavy and the chicken was delicious. The tofu skin and vegetable slices were a nice add-on. Noodle with Meat Sauce: Bland. The sauce had good body and adhered to the noodle nicely, but I wanted it to have more of a kick. Not a personal fan of this. Pork in Sweet/Sour Sauce: The fried pork was delicious and it was interesting to see the different things they mixed with the sauce (bell peppers, zucchini, carrots, oranges). However, the sauce was overpowering and it made the pork kind of soggy. I would order it again, but tell them to put the sauce on the side for dip. Overall, I don't dislike the place, but I would order different things the next time around.

It has really good tofu soup which is my favorite! The food is very authentic, the owner is Korean, which made me feel like the food is homemade style. I really like their kimchi. They were playing korean TV drama when we were having dinner lol

Honestly everything was delicious. This was our first time in displays and the lady was super nice. She explained everything and the food was yummy yummy yummy. The bim bap was good but I will try the one on the stone but the next time. My hubby ordered the fried chicken and it was off the chain. Only thing was that they had a dog and I'm thinking it's their dog and I'm allergic to dogs so that's the only reason I'm giving them four stars. But food and service was they were great

I came here after driving to Da Rae Won and finding out that they are closed for "summer vacation." Found this gem on Yelp near by and remembered I had been there before a long time ago (but don't remember my experience or what I got). I ordered a seafood soondooboo, jjam pong, and japchae. All of them were great and tasty! I've had better jjam pong at Da Rae Won but this was good enough for my craving that day. Soondooboo came with a lot of tofu, which is the way I like it. Japchae was probably the best I've had anywhere (although the portion could be a little bit bigger but that's because I eat a lot.. So probably good portion for everyone else LOL). The waiter was very attentive and nice throughout our meal so we left him a good tip. He gave us refills on ban chan and happily offered us extra bowls since we shared all of the dishes. And one side note - this is the first time I've gone to an authentic Korean restaurant and my waiter could speak perfect English WITHOUT an accent. So that was a big plus/surprise! :)

There was a dog behind the counter in the restaurant. I wish I was joking and my roommate and I did laugh. I should have called the health department but I can't remember the date. Seriously a dog was behind the counter. It was just awkward overall....and the food was bland. MY beef broth soup was mild. It's supposed to be an inferno but I guess they assumed I was white (mom is Korean so not entirely!). Awful experience.

Had a real jonesing for Bulgogi Beef Bibimbap this afternoon; being new to the area, I decided to see which Korean restaurants were nearby. I chose Myong Dong. Called ahead to make sure they offered bibimbap (which authentic Korean place wouldnt, right? Still, better to be safe...) The restaurant was clean, neat, expected Korean-place decor, nothing special. The cashier guy was friendly, full of jokes. The dining area was deserted, but I reasoned that it was the after-lunch-before-dinner time period. I ordered and waited expectantly for my meal. When I got home and opened the disposable containers up.... well, let's just say I enjoyed a very expensive fried egg and half-cup of rice ($10.55) - the ONLY parts of this meal that were acceptable. The vegetables looked limp and un-fresh. The bulgogi beef was actually bulgogi PELLETS! Tiny, miserable pellets of beef scattered through the vegetables - such a joke. I'm never eating here again, and I recommend that you don't either.

I ate here last night and used the Yelp deal. It was perfect! I've only had Korean food a few times in my life, but this was my best experience yet. The free vegetables were fresh and extremely flavorful. We also had the pan fried dumplings and two different noodle soups. The service was great. Oh! And get the ginger-honey tea... it's divine.

After living in Korea it's been hard for me to find quality korean food in the area. but this place is a great find! The Kimchi was delicious and had just the right amount of spicy for me. I ordered steamed mandoo (dumplings) and ja jang (noodles with black pork sauce). The mandoo was delicious and tasted very fresh. They served them hot on the steaming pan and then brought out the noodles. The noodles were cooked well and covered in the black sauce just how I like them. The sauce itself had lots of onions but could have used a little more zucchini and carrots. The flavor was great, had a nice pork flavor but not overwhelming. There were nice big pieces of pork in it too. The service was great, very friendly and welcoming. I just stopped in for lunch so time was of the essence and they brought out my food in less than 10 minutes. Overall very pleased and will be coming here frequently for lunch!

FYI: Address is 11114 [not 24] Excellent service and totally enjoyed the authentic tasting food. An army brat having experience eating Korean food for over 30+ years, I am happy to say that it is really great to have a place to enjoy all my favorites. We enjoyed the kimchi [red, white, spicy cucumber], yaki mandu, the Green onion seafood 'pizza' [totally awesome], and a brown bean noodle dish. The decor could use some Mama-san loving, but I would rather have great food at an excellent price!

Little Korean place tucked in a sad little strip mall. Found it by accident and decided to try it. Decent prices and clean. Only 3 banchan dishes came with our meal, and they were ok, kind of all on the sweet side, even their kimchee. Direct translation of the Korean name is "Myung Dong Hand-cut Noodles." Noodle soup dishes were very good. Kimbap, steamed veggie dumplings, and ttokbokki were decent but nothing special. Did not try their fried chicken which is supposed to be very good according to the reviews on the wall. Was apparently listed in the Washingtonian cheap eats list. Will have to come back and try their other stuff.

My Young Dong definitely serves up more exciting things than My Old Dong. For real though, the food is just ok. Lunch special was a good price. Their jumbong sucked. real talk.

It was okay. I got a fried chicken, Jajang myun and Champong. The fried chicken was a little dry, and since they didn't offer any type of sauce, it was a bit tasteless. The noodles were good, but not spectacular. Overall, it was just OK. Big portions though.

Before I begin, I've discovered the more nondescript an asian restaurant is from the outside, the better the food and the service are on the inside. This place looks like it jumped out of a k-drama. I took my fiance here for his first taste of Korean food, and he instantly fell in love. The bulgogi (which is always a safe choice for a persons' first foray into the joys of Korean food) is awesome, the dumplings are tasty, and the kimchi is crunchy. Let's focus on the side dishes and rice for a moment. These things are VERY important. Everyone does kimchi their own way, and everyone has a preference for how they like it to taste/the texture. I'm a fan of kimchi that's got a bit of crunch and a lot of kick, and this ahjumma's kimchi is spot on for what I enjoy. The cucumber kimchi(such crunch! such subtle flavours!) and radish (nice and sour!) kimchi are also spectacular, but the cabbage is the star. and the rice! my god the rice is always perfect. So, in short, Go here. You won't regret it. Close your eyes and pretend you're in Seoul. And tomorrow, continue your journey with black bean noodes at Da Rae Won. Beltsville is a great place to get good food right now.

I can't believe my wife dragged us this far out to have what I thought was very mediocre Korean food. I guess she had this idea that this restaurant could live up to its name. The interior just looks a little bit odd. The food just alright. The ban-chan wasn't great. The kimbap was a bit on the bland side, and the mandoo seemed fairly ordinary to me, although the waitress assured us this was not the store bought frozen mandoo. The kal-gook-su was alright. I doubt we'll be back considering it's so far for us, but the place isn't bad.

Food is really delicious. I was surprised by how good the tofu pot and the Cool noodle was. Definitely recommend this place. Service is excellent too

I really enjoyed my soup here. I also got a large radish side order. It was tasty. I tend to love pickled korean radish so this was right on with what I like. The soup I got was spicy with seafood - mussels, squid, etc. With noodles. Tasty and good service. There was a little miniature pincher (sp?) running around who was quite cute.
