The stars are more of a cost-benefit rating in this case. I LOVE the food here, but I'm usually more inclined to opt for the the option across the street, Paul Chen's, when my pockets are light or I want to get (still cheap) delivert. That said, the sushi here is pretty tasty for a Chinese restaurant, and it's the best shrimp toast I've ever had. Yum's does a good job at everything I've had there, from the wonton soup to the Szechuan green beans to Sesame Chicken. The lunch specials are a great deal, and eating in at the restaurant is really pretty nice. Check it out, but be prepared to pay a little more than your usual Chinese takeout joint.

Went here for lunch with my co-worker and we were both pleasantly surprised with the decor of the place! We had great customer service and the food was even better! We ordered terriyaki chicken, general tso and maryland king crab roll. EVERYTHING was delicious and even the General Tso was a lil spicy, which I love! I will definitely be going back to eat here! Best chinese that I had in a LONG time!

My office is down the street - order here fairly often and have lunch meeting with reps at the establishment. Adorable atmosphere and quick service. I haven't had one thing there that was not just delicious! Yum's is YUMMY!

Best Asian food that I have found in the Charles Village area. Pretty much everything on the menu is good. Highly recommend the Pad Thai and Wonton Soup. Also the service is always fast and friendly!

We stopped in for dinner a couple of months ago and found friendly, quick service at Yum's. It's a little pricier than the average Chinese, but portions are generous, the food is solid, and it's a surprisingly nice place. (If the owner of Yum's is out there somewhere, please add some lights or candles or something! The fluorescent "cloud" lights hurt your eyes after awhile and makes the place feel a little sterile.) A more recent carry out visit confirmed this as our go-to place for Chinese. It was ready in five minutes and everything was in the bag as ordered. Now if they would just deliver...

This place was great! I had the dumplings and Spider Roll. The dipping sauce with the dumplings was fabulous. ... wanted to drink it straight! The spider roll was the best I've ever had..... the only reason they did not get 5 stars was because they ran out of the coffee!!!!

Friendly, fast service. Yum's has very good sushi, the fish is very fresh. The Sammy salad is very delicious and a good size. The Crab Rangoon was ok. The spicy Tuna and Spicy Salmon rolls were very good. All food was presented beautifully. The restaurant itself is new and very clean. Everything looks well maintained and our server was very attentive and friendly. So glad that Yum's is around and has later hours than most. Very good spot.

A quiet gem in an unexpected neighborhood. Food is fresh, delicious, and cheap! Fish and seafood are specialties. Go and support them.

After so many positive reviews read I finally stopped in. I was a bit shocked by the decor as I wasn't expecting it to appear like a date night type restaurant. The food was expensive, although the portions were large. Unfortunately the food was bland and boring. It was your standard carry out Chinese restaurant fare, but for twice the price. The sushi was not bad, but the fish wasn't the freshest. In all, not bad, just not the right mix of carryout dive and family eatery.

The Sunono salad and roll are so delicious!!! That's the only reason why I'm rating this place 3 stars. The service was terrible tonight. My server, Jeffrey was very inattentive and walked passed me at least 4 times without acknowledging or checking on me. I waited for 10 minutes and finally asked the sushi chef for the sriracha sauce I'd been patiently eating to request from Jeffrey. I was informed that they did not have sriracha sauce. (WHAT?!?!). Finally, Jeffrey came to my table, at which point I asked for my check and informed him that I did not enjoy my Phoenix roll (very bland, not worth $11.45. He said OK, walked away and returned later with my check and sriracha! I guess the joke was on me. Next time I'll just order my food for take out.

Pretty much everyone knows Baltimore is strangely lacking in the Chinese food department, so I was excited to find that Yum's is a super decent American-Chinese restaurant. Better than Paul Chen's, which was my previous go-to place for takeout. I've only had the dumplings and chow fun here, but both were very tasty as far as American-Chinese food goes. The dumpling wrappers were surprisingly thin, filling generous. Obviously not anywhere close to homemade, Asian-grandmother-style dumplings, but very decent. The chow fun thankfully did not taste like it was marinated in soy sauce, and the noodles were soft and chewy. Will definitely be back here to satisfy my Chinese-takeout cravings.

Let me start off by saying that I am an incredibly picky eater; as in I really don't like 90% of food that's prepared and most people have no idea how I am alive with such a limited amount of foods I will voluntarily eat. With that being said, I sincerely love this place!! It's always clean and presentable but pretty plain. When you enter the restaurant, it's actually very upscale inside with a fancy chandelier, sushi bar, regular bar and regular eating area. The staff is friendly, recognizes their frequent customers and shows a little extra care with them. Whether you're taking out or dining in, you'll get the same courteous service. Very relaxed environment. It's great for dates or just casual dining. I haven't eaten at the sushi bar yet, but the times I've been there, there is always someone sitting there and enjoying the sushi. Since I have to be in the mood for sushi, I haven't tried it yet. The menu has a wide variety of options and there is something for everyone. I usually eat the Bangkok shrimp and crab rangoon, but have explored other options that I thoroughly enjoy. The Pad Thai noodles are delicious with a little bit of heat to them. I don't know how much this matters to everyone else, but the timing between appetizers and entrees is always on point. I've been to plenty of places where they bring out your entree within five minutes of bringing your appetizer and it creates this feeling of rush. Portions are generous and the quality of food is very high. I try to visit here at least once a month after a long day of work when I don't feel like cooking and am never disappointed.

On this day, honestly I was looking for somewhere to borrow the toilet facilities. Went to Subway across the street, and their TWO bathrooms were "out of service". So I left. Thank goodness because now I discovered this place! From the outside, this place seems inviting to me. At first, I thought it was just a carryout joint, to be surprised that it was a full restaurant with bar. Inside, the decor is above average nice, however, very dimly illuminated.. The staff greeted me and asked if I wanted to dine in or carryout---advised me that if I dined in, the dishes were large only. I felt this was a little strict, as I came in just wanting to eat lunch at 230pm. So I just orrdered carryout. The lunch special was a pretty good value! I was surprised that for $8-9, you get the entree with rice (normal portion), choice of soup or soda, and choice of eggroll or spring roll. With the soup and egg roll, the lunch was plenty filling and tasty. I would definitely return if I was in the area.

I really enjoy this location for Asian cuisine. Sadly they do not deliver so you either have to dine in or carry out! Everything I have ordered from here has been extremely tasty and enjoyable! I have had the sea same chicken, general tso chicken, sushi roll, konk roll, volcano roll, and the shrimp tempura. The chefs specials come with soup, egg roll, protein and fried or white rice. I think it is so nice they offer soup and if you do not like soup they will substitute it for a soda or something else to drink. The staff is very friendly and make sure that you are taken care of. When I order carry out the food is always fresh, the quote times for pick up are always on point! I wish they delivered, they would be my number one Asian place! I don't like driving at all in the city so when I do make it out there! It is a nice treat! I highly recommend!

All the 5 star reviews here make me wonder where these people have eaten before. This is very ordinary, underseasoned Chinese-American food. The little chili pepper next to the the item on the menu is as close to spicy as I got despite me asking the waitress, 'spicy please.' It does cost more than other ordinary Chinese food if that appeals to you. The room is pretty although we had to ask the waitress to move us to a booth with intact upholstery. The bathroom was clean. I cannot see a reason to return here.

Yums is my go to for sit down Chinese in Baltimore City. The first time I went I was a little concerned as it's never really crowded. But my concern was quickly thwarted. Everything I've ever had has been delicious. I love that I can get Sushi and Chinese all in the same place. The portions are huge!!! Although they are a little on the expense side for Chinese it's well worth it for the portions you receive.

Came here on a Sunday with my girlfriend. First time at this place. Delicious food. We actually ordered a little too much. I was very surprised by how tasty the egg drop soup, wonton soup, fried dumplings and sushi were. They were yummy! A little expensive but well worth every bite. We also ordered the sesame chicken and came with fried rice. The portions were amazing. I believe this place is hands down one of the best chinese restaurants. The place looks nice too and getting your food in a decent amount of time was a plus!

  • Samaa M.

It's delicious chinese and thai food. The menu doesn't push the boundries or anything. It's just your standard fare, but it's very well done. The restaurant is clean and well-decored. Booths are great for couples, and the restaurant has always been quiet when I went. The menu is mainly chinese, though they have a few thai dishes. I haven't tried their sushi, so I can't comment on its quality. We ordered the hot and sour soup, pot stickers, spring rolls, general tsos, orange chicken, and two thai dishes. All delicious and well done, though I found the spring roll to be overly peppered.

I eat at Yums regularly. The food is excellent. The ingredients are always fresh and the lunch specials are a great deal. The service is typically quick and friendly. I would call it a gem in this neighborhood.

Great food, fresh ingredients, a combo of Thai, Chinese, and Japanese with a nice staff. Come for the lunch specials til 3 pm. Large portions and served piping hot. Pan- fried dumplings and wonton soup are especially flavorful. The pad Thai was different than I have had in the past but served with large plump shrimp. Super fast service as well. A go to for a quick and tasty meal : )

The previous reviews were soooo right! I had a craving for orange chicken and I looked to yelp for help (lol). I didn't see any reviews on the Orange chicken exactly however I did see a lot of good reviews for the General Taos so o decided to go with that. I got the lunch combo (spring roll, miso soup & general Taos) everything was delicious! The spring roll was crispy and not to oily like some places. The soup was a huge serving (about medium size) and the chicken itself was cooked perfectly! I will be going back for sure!! Trust the reviews people and try it! Don't waste your money anywhere this is the place to be!

  • King R.

Initially i got the SMALL general Tso's chicken that was OK and I called back without looking on the menu to add on the shrimp toast ...when I went to pay for my order it was 16.95 SMH . Surprised 4 peices of shrimp toast was 6 something and a small General Tso's 9 something . Two days later I ordered the shrimp egg foo yong and when I got home the gravy reminded me of curry chicken sauce & I called them to ask about brown gravy and they mentioned they don't serve brown gravy . After getting into the meal it was OK . But I probably won't order from them unless I'm desperate and have no where else to eat . The dining area seem really relaxing and quiet . Bottom line when you eat their ask a lot of questions first .

Yum's recently opened up in newly-renovated space that was once occupied by the New No Da Ji. I never knew where the OLD No Da Ji was, but 'new' wasn't a word you'd ordinarily use to describe the previous restaurant. I miss the glorious upscale-70's vibe the place once had. I don't, however, miss how down-in-the-heels dirty the place had become. Yum's is a clean, bright improvement. If you want to go out for Chinese rather than order in, this is a good choice. The food here is a perfectly fine take on the standards. My General Tso's was definitely a cut above the other places in town, and came with some remarkably crisp broccoli, cooked JUST enough, but only barely. My husband's Kung Pao was bland to my taste, and came with baby corn, which I loathe. I'm picky about Kung Pao, though. The "Super Meals" we both ordered are a notable value. For $12-14, you get a choice of soup, 2 pieces of shrimp toast, 2 crab Rangoon, and a full entree. It was a prodigious amount of food for the money, and I ended up taking half of my entree home.

We came here tonight on a whim, and because my friend wanted sushi. -the gyoza was delicious! -my sushi was standard. California and Baltimore rolls were fresh and large, and good. But really standard sushi. -the other dishes at our table were pretty standard as well. It's Americanized Chinese food. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't earth shattering, -apparently they have good octopus salad. The place is clean and bright. Our waiter was friendly but a little over bearing. Prices are good too, and they have a variety of food.

I recently moved to the area & saw this spot was in walking distance so I figured why not...... wise decision on my part, the server was polite&friendly which seems to be a trait that lacking @way too many restaurants lately. I had the lunch time sushi combo which included miso soup&a small garden salad(I'm not a huge fan of mixed field greens but that yummy dressing made me soon forget)along with12 piece's of sushi all for $9.25!?I'm looking forward to trying something different next time but so far so good.......

Three cheers for Yum's for bringing good, solid asian food to Charles and 25th! Although not perfect, the food is tasty and the waitress very nice. Had the yellowtail sashimi app special with jalepenos, avocado and tomato. Nice thick slices of fish and very fresh. The natural volcano roll was also a crowd pleaser. In fact, all the sushi was. The General Tso's chicken was a little over breaded, and didn't live up to the moist white meat advertised, but still wasn't terrible. Great attention to detail with carved radishes, carrots carved into birds and fresh orange slices at the end. Try it!

  • Renee S.

I love what Yum's is trying to do. A near table cloth spot in lower Charles Village. The menu variety is wide. The service is efficient, friendly and totally conversant in English. The food is fine. Not the best Chinese I've had, but always hits the spot and makes for a pleasant evening.

Great addition to the neighborhood! It's clean and the service is good. The dining room is small but nicely decorated. The carry out is ready quickly. I've enjoyed both the Chinese and Japanese offerings. The hot and sour soup, beef skewers, and steamed dumplings are delicious. The General Tso's chicken and Dynamite Roll are pretty good. The only negative is the Unagi Don is a little expensive for not having much eel. Please check this place out! It's a decent local option for Chinese and Sushi.

I went to Yum's Asian Bistro on 3/06/2012 to have dinner with a friend before going to the Hippodrome to see the musical The Addam's Family. Let me tell you, we both were pretty impressed. The interior is just beautiful. I had the Orange Chicken and she had the Spicy Garlic Shrimp both entree's came with a choice of soup, shrimp toast and crab rangoon. It was just delicious. I will be returning. A little pricey for Chinese food but, service was great and food was great. You get what you pay for and yes I would do it again. Approx. 40.00 including the tip. Water and the iced teas was included in the price. 32 for the bill and 40 with the tip. I say try it. I'm pretty sure you will not be disappointed

Yum's is a stone throw's from my apartment and it is a great addition to the area. I typically like buffet style chinese. I have been here twice and friends and i have tried an assortment of dishes that all liked. I had the Mongolian beef and it was delicious. I think i found my go-to dish at this place. Anyhow it is pretty good and service is fast, efficient, and friendly. So try it out.

This place is high priced typical chinese mystery meat. Take your money to PF Changs if you want some quality General Tso's. The only reason this place didnt get 1 star is because the waitress was nice and the interior was extremely clean.

I gotta admit, I was impressed when I walked into this place. I do not hold much hope for Americanized Chinese food but Yum's was a step up. I haven't been to this place since it was the New No Daji and after that visit I was saying No No Daji. But Yums stepped it up. Decor is very nice. Very refined and elegant without being Chinese kitsch. Service was great. Our server was knowledgeable of the menu and actually was able to cater to our likes and not just say "all of our food is good". The food was, although, Americanized Chinese food. This is Baltimore and we can't get away from that but the sauces were a bit more flavorful than most. Value was certainly here. You get all the fixins with your meal (if you're savvy). Shrimp toast was excellent and the hot and sour soup was above par. This is gonna be a welcomed stop on our take out rotation. Yum's doesn't deliver but if you live in Station North / Old Goucher area than you're in luck. Stop on up there and pick you up something.

Excellent Chinese food, decor & service. I was one of those ppl that let the outside & location deter me from going in & I truly regret that. I ordered simple dishes to start like shrimp fried rice, beef & broccoli & shrimp toast and all were above standard! My husband commented the shrimp fried rice was fresh & didn't have that fried, burnt taste like most carry out locations do. The shrimp toast is pricey ( only four pieces at almost 8 bucks!) but flavorful & tasty and the vegetables in the beef & broccoli were cooked perfectly and the dish had a wonderful flavor! We are going to eat in next time for sure! They have a full bar & the atmosphere is cozy!

(03/28/2012) Menu is mostly Americanized Chinese with a smattering of Thai (pad thai), Korean (galbi) and Japanese (sushi). Got the usual comparison for standard Americanized Chinese fare: General Tso's Chicken. Yum's version is deep-fried crispy chunks of chicken (both dark and white meat), batter held up well under the usual sticky sweet-tart sauce. Chilis were seen in the sauce, but mild, came with the ubiquitous blanched broccoli crowns for some color and contrast. The lunch specials were a good value: entree with white or fried rice, soup (wonton, egg drop, or hot and sour), and spring or egg roll for $6.95 to $7.95. Sushi lunch combos were a little more: 2 rolls, salad, side of white rice and miso soup for $9.25. Egg drop soup was an unnaturally yellow, hot and sour was neither hot nor sour, and unusually gelatinous (really not like soup at all, more like pudding). Most menu items were relatively bland and plain, but ingredients were fresh, service was earnest, portions were decent.

Finally, good Chinese food in Charles Village. Yum's offers very solid and fresh Chinese fare and sushi. So far I have had mooshu pork and crispy beef, and both were very good. Have not eaten the sushi, but the fish at the sushi bar looked good. Interior is clean, well decorated with booths and tables. Service is friendly and efficient - they now have a liquor license.

Delicious! Decided to get takeout, and I regret not eating in. The decor was great and very beautiful. Staff was very friendly, speedy and welcoming. For the food, I had the Mongolian beef which was almost melt in your mouth tender, and my fiance had the spicy noodles. It all came with egg rolls, as well as those chinese donuts that I could make an entire meal out of. Portions were more than generous and the food was outstanding. We will be returning many times. Thanks Yum's!

The signage outside for this new Bistro is no indication of the comfortable interior, delicious food, and very nice staff. Five of us dined last night (another 5 a coupple of weeks ago) and everyone enjoyed it and commented on how great everything was. The food was all delectable -- fresh fish and vegetables, generous portions, and artistically presented. The beautiful presentation of the food was an indication of the overall tone of this new spot. The staff was very nice -- service was attentive. And the cleanliness of the restaurant really impressed me. The prices were very reasonable -- $10.75 for Moo Shu Pork, for example. Prices for entrees range $9-16 for most with premium dinners higher. Five of us shared five dishes -- shrimp/vegetables, chicken and green beans, a special noodle dish that my friend said was better than the equivalent he had at a top-notch Asian place in NYC -- all delicious. And, Happy Hour prices were $3 beers and $6 premium mixed drinks that were generously portioned. The interior setting is clean and pleasant -- this establishment has no relationship to the previous tenant. I will return with friends, dates, and business colleagues. The misleading deterrent for this restaurant is its signage -- very carry-out-ish and certainly no indication of the very nice environment inside and delicious food. I will return -- often -- and bring all those whom I know love Asian food to enjoy these scrumptious offerings.

I went on a whim last night and have walked by this place on numerous occasions and never went in. I basically ordered take out last night because I did not feel like cooking at all. I basically ordered standard dishes, The shrimp and broccoli was pretty tasty. I ordered a small portion and I also ordered some chicken lettuce wraps which was very delicious. I feel the portions were moderate for the price. They are a tab bit pricey, so be prepared to pay between 9-10 bucks for small entrees and 12-16 for the larger portions. For the most part the food was very delicious, and you get generous portions. The restaurant is very bright and clean and pleaseant inside. They also have happy hour specials with $3 dollar beers and $6 premium mixed drinks. I will return for that and bring some friends as well.

  • Esteban M.

Excellent lunch special. It's unlike any other Chinese restaurant around because the food doesn't taste the same like everywhere else. They have the best fried and white rice side. You can always tell that the food is fresh. The service is also very attentive which is a nice change from some of the restaurants from Charles village.

  • Haohan X.

I ordered Unagi (grilled eel) on rice for my last visit. The eel tasted ok though serving size is very small, but the rice is totally unacceptable, because they used the vinegar rice instead of steam rice. The sour smell of the rice didn't go quite well with the sugary eel.

Grabbed some food to-go from here the other night, and was pleasantly surprised at the quality. I love, I mean seriously love, sweet and sour pork, so much so that I will order it pretty much no matter what else is available on the menu, but in the last few years, I've grown really disappointed with how most places prepare it. Overly fried, so it becomes hard to even chew. Not at all the case here! This was like being transported back to the Chinese food of my youth. Chunks of pineapple, onion, and thick, but not too thick, sauce, perfectly fried pieces of pork that were neither too chewy or too mushy. The fried rice was also good, and while the hot and sour soup was tasty, it was too hot to eat before the rest of my meal, so it went into the fridge with the rest of the leftovers. We'll see if it survives well over night and makes for a snack tomorrow. I will definitely try this place again. I didn't get a long look at the interior, but it seemed really nicely kept up and clean.

  • Nene O.

I must say this is hands down the best food in town. Between the Singapore noodles, Mongolian beef and Maryland Sea king crab roll, everything we had was delicious. The drinks are also great. The people there are friendly and did their best to make sure everything was ok. Can't wait to go back again.

Everything is relative, especially when it comes to Chinese food in Baltimore. There are so few decent places in this town. For context, I think Zhongshan Restaurant on Park Avenue is the best. After trying Yum's, I definitely recommend it. It's far and away better than anything in Charles Village, Waverly or Hampden. Seriously - get your butt down there, especially if you can't get to Zhongshan. We had the Szechuan shrimp and pad Thai. Both were very good, the former being better than the latter. There was a good amount of heat, the shrimp were huge, and there were a lot of fresh vegetables (carrots, nice mushrooms and zucchini), all in an elegant presentation. The pad Thai was very tasty, just not what I am used to. We also had orders of shrimp toast and crab rangoon which echo what others have said about them here. The shrimp toast was the best I've ever had so I strongly recommend it. Also, they offer brown rice in addition to white and fried so that is a plus. It was very good. Yes, this place is Americanized in comparison to Zhongshan but honestly that is fine with me given the lack of choices in this area of the city. The service was impeccable. And the place is gorgeous. They sell live lobster and Peking duck! I want to try those out some time. They also have a good assortment of alcohol options. Just get down there!

It's hard to find good Chinese food in Baltimore. And while the Chinese food here at Yum's misses greatness their food is overall, quite acceptable. Old school style Americanized Chinese. Great shrimp toast. Not so good steamed dumplings. Good General Tso's Chicken and Mu Shu Vegetables. Unexpectedly nice inside. We will return. I'm dying to try their jumbo lump crab fried rice. (Oops! Tried the crab fried rice-- big lumps of crab meat but not so fresh and had a strong fishy smell when we got it home. Disappointed now. :-( )
