Had lunch there with some ladies from work to celebrate a birthday. Really only looking for a quick bite to eat away from the office. The service was very slow and when we did get our food there was one slice of meat on my sandwich. The others may have had two slices. They were the flattest ruebens and turkey swiss melts I had ever seen. For $7 to not have ANY meat on the sandwich is robbery. When I sent my food back, due to lack of turkey, the half I sent back came back to me piled high with turkey. Why didn't they serve it like this in the first place? Really, you're better off getting a sandwich from Subway. Cheaper, faster, and more meat!

I really wanted to like this place. It's close to where I live and I was looking for a nice, default place to go. I went there once, and while there was nothing glaringly wrong per se it just didn't really do it for me. Not much in the way of vegetarian fare, and standard pub grub was just that. So, I wouldn't discourage anyone from trying it, but it just wasn't my thing.

This is most definitely going to be the hang-out place for LoML and I on the weekends when we want drinks and a great place to play some pool. It's a 5 minute walk from the house, which means no sacrificing drinks to drive somewhere, and the atmosphere is definitely chill. Pretty quiet, actually, for a Friday night, or the clientele isn't rowdy and impossible - just our style. The food was really, REALLY good. Had a plate of nachos supreme to share, a pub burger (fried ham and Russian dressing) for me and a pastrami on rye for LoML. The staff was totally understanding of my dietary restrictions and even made a couple of suggestions, which was great. It was my first time drinking alcohol since the diagnosis, so I was careful and ordered a small Chardonnay - it was perfect for me, as it balanced nicely with the chips from the nacho plate. Now, LoML is the "drinker" here, so he had an Alabama Slammer, a Long Island tea, and a Mai Tai (specially prepared by the female bartender - I think she kind of "liked him" a little, lawl) - the drinks, according to him, were "not weak or watered down", and he likes his drinks strong. Pool games are a buck a shot - perfect cheap-assed entertainment for a Friday night. The wine was 4.25, the mixed drinks ranged from 6 to 6.25 - DIRT cheap for a Baltimore bar. We spent no more than 40 bucks total for everything (plus 3 for pool games). Seriously, you can't get any better than that. And the food was of better quality than even the expensive joints around downtown. To top it off, the music selection was DIVINE. Seriously, you can't beat James Brown and the old soul classics. I was in musical heaven, okay, sheer heaven. You're missing out if you don't come to Dougherty's, but that's okay - we love it just as it is. This is OUR "Cheers". We're coming back for sure. Tip for Diabetics: There's not much here that you're going to be able to eat "straight" as it comes off of the menu - sorry to say. I made some adjustments - for the burger, I simply left off the bread. The buns are HUGE - and probably delicious - but I knew it would screw with my glucose, so I put it aside. The staff understood after I explained it to them, so no worries on people thinking you're wasteful or anything. I found that the best thing to do here was to combine a drink (the wine) and sip it SLOWLY while consuming the nachos. It seemed to work out pretty well for me, but as always, you must do what is right for you. BG level before dinner = 84 BG level after dinner = 141 Disclaimer: I'm not a doctor. YMMV. Seek medical advice and tailor my review to your situation. I simply provide opinion.

I wish I still lived in Baltimore just because of the food and atmosphere here. If you are looking for a laid back comfortable place to go and have a beer and some food there is no better place.

I love the neighborhood feel. The bartenders and waitress(yes, only one) were very friendly. I'm sure regulars feel very welcome since I did on my first visit. I loved the burger and fries. For cheap eats and a laid back atmosphere, Dougherty's is your place.

This is exactly what it looks like. A pretty simple pub, cheap beers, decent food. Normally I'd give this a 3-star, but seeing how a lot of places in Baltimore tend to not realize what city they're in, this is a nice relief. Plus, $11 for a pitcher of hefeweissen really deserves an extra star.

Sometime in the summer they switched to "new" fries, the seasoned, battered kind that come frozen in a bag. Honestly, even though they might be a Sysco product, I like these better than the hit or miss old handcut fries, at least these are crispy.

So, here is the deal....Dougherty's Pub is a best kept secret that I would love to keep that way, but as a local foodie I cant help but share. I recently stumbled across the lovely spot and I cant stop. Everything....I have tried has been consistently delicious. My faves are anything that is accompanied with the French Fries (which are lightly greased and crispy but full of flavor without using the red tomato stuff). Recently, I noticed they had a 5oz Crab Cake@11.00 for platter, and instantly thought "filler city", and I also was turned off by it being fried--how WRONG I was!! I ordered the Crab Cake platter, which comes with coleslaw, french fries and all the fixings...but me being me I jump right to the finale, The cake!! its simple...meat, mayo and seasoning. Its not fishy, or packed tightly with bread crumbs and crackers....nor overwhelmed with Old Bay, its perfect...and dont be discouraged as I was about the frying because its almost like its pan fried on each side, its not greasy nor dry. The burgers are juicy and well worth the bite. The wings are typical however they have the best RANCH dressing ever. The staff is great!! friendly and not overbaring. The prices are right, drinks are good, and the food...well I will let you decide for yourself.

I went in with two friends to play a few games of pool, have some nachos, and a couple drinks. The floor tiles were cracked, the walls dirty and covered in scribble (and spackle patches), and the service awful. "Sammy" ignored requests for separate checks so he could get off the clock, only to sit there and drink. This is after calling me an asshole for not ordering food, and after he accused me of using a fake ID even though I'm 24 with multiple forms of ID. I've been coming here since I moved to Baltimore for school in 2006. Its a cheap bar, and the service and environment are bearable if you are there for a few rounds of pool. Not going back now.

My boyfriend works in the area, so he introduced me to Dougherty's one day when I came to visit him for lunch. It's one of his favorite places to eat at work, which surprised me because it's a bar. The menu was short, sweet, and to the point. The prices were very reasonable and they even have daily specials that are great deals. I have usually been in here during a weekday around 12-2pm and the atmosphere is very laid back. The people taking our orders were always very attentive and our food was brought out in a timely manner. Whenever I eat here, I always get a cheeseburger. It's pretty damn good! They also play great music! I would recommend Dougherty's for anyone in the area as a bar or to grab a quick bite to eat.

Decent bar. Just off the outskirts of other charles street hangouts Dougherty's has interesting people come thru probably because its between MICA and UB campuses and right across from the 24 hour rite aid. Great beer on tap and good wings. But we really came thru for the pool tables in the back; which also include a jukebox just in case you're not feeling the bar music. Me and the guys had fun shooting pool and throwing back a pitcher of beer. Its a good time at a good bar. being close to the lightrail and subway has its advantages should you get too drunk to drive as well. The bartender knew his stuff so he wasn't just some walking bottle opener like some bartenders. Try asking for a "Red Headed Slut"; thats another story though. Go out and have a good time.

Divey Irish bar. I like it! The food is modest but cheap!!! The beer is also cheap (good to get a pitcher). It's a big space, so it's good to come with a group of friends. One of the few places in Mt. Vernon to shoot pool, so it seems like there is a 'group' who comes regularly to play. My peeve about this place is the service can be horrendous if crowded. There'd be one bartender for a packed crowd during the weekend. We've waited for 30 minutes to get a pitcher, and the bartender can get snooty.

I don't stop into Dougherty's too often because I'm rarely in this part of Mt.V but when I do pop in I know I made the right choice. Bartenders are cool and this is a pretty local spot so if you are coming in to watch a football game and complain that they only have 2 small tv's then it's probably your bad call. This bar is a traditional bar. It's a meeting spot, a socializing spot, a dark room to get in out of the sun and hide away for a spell. Dougherty's does all of those well. If that's what you want than you made the right call.

When I clicked the three star rating the field next to the graphic read "A-OK", and that's how I feel about Dougherty's. The prices are great. Cheap pitchers, good specials. The food is usually pretty ok. Sometimes down right awesome. The bartenders...well, flip a coin. You'll either get a friendly face and a cool mug, or a blank stare and a cup of foam. I haven't figured out a pattern on this front, but in terms of risk/reward, Dougherty's is generally worth it.

Now that I've been to a lot of bars in the Baltimore area, Dougherty's has started climbing to the top of my list. It's probably one of the cheapest places to get a drink around here as far as beer and mixed drinks go. And you can also get cheap pitchers of a bunch of different kinds of beer. They also have food which is pretty standard, serving burgers and fries. The reason I like Dougherty's is because on any night you go, the bartenders and friendly and attentive, the crowd is chill and you don't have to scream to have a conversation. It's a good place to go on a weekend if you want to go get and drink and relax. And don't forget they have pool tables! However, if you go on a week night it's possible that you and your party could be the only ones there...but you might like that!

My favorite local hangout. It is the best kept secret in Mt Vernon. Quiet, friendly, and right for me. The place has great prices on food and the burger is one of the best in the area. I would recommend to avoid other noisy crowded places in the area. They also have soccer on most of the time. I wish they had more TVs and then I wouldn't leave.

Dougherty's is a great place to grab no-fuss, great tasting food. The staff is very nice and give excellent service in a laid back atmosphere. I love the burger and fries. Every once in a while a macaroni salad or pasta salad will be on the specials menu and it is out of this world! Now I always ask if there is any left in the back.

Dougherty's is a simple, take-me-as-you-see-me, neighborhood bar. What makes Dougherty's special is that anyone can walk through the door, sit down, buy a beer and feel totally comfy (and you won't have to morgage your house to pay for that beer). The patrons are a wide variety of young and old, artsy and common; a representative sampling of the neighborhood surrounding it. This is not a bar for you if you are looking jagerbombs and aftershock. This is a real bar.

This was my old stomping grounds for a good bit of time. On it's best nights, it had a really good mix of art school kids, an older very blue collar crowd, young urban professionals from Mt. Vernon and everything else in between. It's just large enough that you never feel like you're in a club, but small enough to remain intimate. The last season of "The Wire" shot a bunch of scenes here, as all the The Sun staff members came here. They did it justice on the show, it's exactly that type of bar where a tired just-got-done-the-day writer would want to kick back at. Lighting is always a bit dim, and they make it darker throughout the night. Enough tables and large booths that you can get a seat no problem on almost any night. Local art lines the walls, and it changes once a month. On the day that a new artist premiers it's usually more crowded and much more festive. Dougherty's also has a Irish folk band come in and play that night. Not so much Flogging Molly, much more traditional - violins, and a pretty girl who dances along with them, in the style of "Riverdance", but not quite as cheesy. I stopped going here on the regular about a year ago, mainly because their best bartenders left for The Wind Up Space in Station North. It's still a cool bar, but those guys really helped make this place. That said, I'd still recommend this place to anyone who is looking for relaxed atmosphere, where you can still have a great time.

I love the huge, open interior of the pub. People behind the bar are always friendly and the location is good as well.

I can't stand this place, and I groan every time another friend suggests it (because she is friends with the bartender). I refuse now to ever go back. The food is not good, and for a "pub" in a football town, they only have 2 small tvs.... we went there on a Sunday and they had the sound turned off on both tvs and had NO football specials. I don't think they ever have special. It is a poor excuse for a bar, really boring, with crappy staff and terrible food.

Good bar, particularly if you like to shoot pool. Art student type crowd, though all sorts of folks show up. Always a friendly and sedate place. Fairly spacious.

The beer's cheap. The waitresses are stretched too thin. The beers' cheap. The clientele is warm, friendly, and a mixture of all types of people. The beer's cheap. The food is standard to fair bar food. The beer's cheap.

Stopped in drinks . The bartender asked if we wanted to run a tab, "yes" was our reply. After one round we were presented with the bill, she did not ask if we wanted another she just walked away so we assumed it was shift change. It wasn't and she did not return to see if we wanted something else. I have over 20 years in the resturant/bar service, this was the worse. Very poor. This is the reason I have only visited the place a couple of times in the 10 years I have lived in the neighbourhood, the service needs to improve. Too bad too because the place itself is actually nice.

Eclectic crowd. You get MICA, UB and Hopkins students, the after work crowd and the locals. Great atmosphere, great food and cheap beer! I bring all of my out of town guests here and they love it. Some nights you can catch live traditional Irish music.

I live in Mt. Vernon and like this hole-in-the-wall pub. The staff is always friendly, the food is pretty good and the beer is affordable. It's nothing fancy but it's a great for a low-key happy hour. The crowd is a bit eclectic and always friendly.

Your friendly neighborhood pub in Baltimore. Can't say enough about how wonderful this pub is! Great staff, tons of beers on tap, and good bar food. The clientele is diverse and the owner is always there to greet you. Definitely a hidden gem in Baltimore!

I like the vibes of Doughertys, it's never really crowded and there's pool in the back I ordered a chicken parm sandwich here once since it was on special but it wasn't very good (was expecting the chicken to be breaded and fried but came grilled? or somehow marginally prepared so the sandwich was just wet and flavorless) but the fries were pretty good

Since moving to Baltimore 5 years ago, Dougherty's has cemented its place as my favorite neighborhood bar. It has a great Irish Pub atmosphere and is never so busy that you can't hear yourself think. The bartenders are all very nice and welcoming. Sam always makes my girlfriend and I feel like we are truly a part of the Dougherty's family. On top of the atmosphere and staff, it is also nice that Dougherty's offers drink specials which get updated regularly and are sent out via social media. Great place to have a great time with friends!

Not too crowded. It was close to my job. I figured lets give it a try. I ordered the crab cake. I guess you pay for what you get. I got the crab cake sandwich. It came with a pickle and some chips. I was so not impressed. I guess when you are use to getting large crab cakes this was truly a disappointment. I was not impressed by the service. It was not crowded. A friend of mine ordered the Salmon Salad and was not impressed either. At this point we paid the tab and just left. We ate the food because we paid for it and we were not on the kind of time to even be able to get something else. This will so not be a choice of mine to dine in again. Not a fancy place but, I did expect a little more than I got.

I've been going to lunch there for a few years now, and it was always excellent. The service was great, but today, was really bad. They've always had great food with a variety of items. Now I'm wondering if I'll ever go back. I ordered one of the specials and they were out...it was noon, and they were already out of one of the specials???? What's that? They couldn't calculate right and make enough to last through lunch time? The co-worker I was with ordered off the menu, and that was out. I first ordered the soup, beans and sausage. I didn't see sausage much less taste it, but what seemed like a couple of mushrooms were in it. The beans were not completely cooked. I didn't finish it. I ordered the turkey and gravy with fries. What came was something short of Doughtery's reputation....it was turkey cold cuts, not off the bone, and looked a week old, with brown instead of turkey gravy. The fries were buried underneath it, soft! The cole slaw was tasteless. I had to ask the wait staff person twice for my cup of soup. She inquired how our meal was, and I mentioned that I wasn't happy with it, she didn't seem to care. I asked if they hired a new cook, and she said no. Whatever it is something is off with this place. If it's not a new cook, then someone is pulling their belt in, and cutting back on the dishes and the quality. This place is better suited for those who like to drink and play pool.

Remember all those cartoons where the characters go to a theme park and wait in a line forever but when they get to the front where it turns out the line was the ride? Put that into restaurant form and that would explain my experience here on a Saturday afternoon in early June 2011. Took a few minutes of standing at the door until my wife and friend were seated. Then a little longer for the waiter to ask what we want to drink. Ten minutes later he came back with them. My wife still wasn't ready to order so he was sent away. It took him twenty minutes to come back. Took about fifty minutes for our food to come out. Which was only two burgers and a sandwich. Fifteen minutes was about the length it took to eat what we could. We had to get some boxes so we could take our leftovers with us. By this time the waits for him to do anything took no less than a half hour. That included checking on us, bringing back boxes, bringing the check (which was not brought with the boxes), picking up the check and finally bringing us change. Our entire time lapse was close to three hours from walking in to walking out. The waiter would simply disappear each time he left our table. Was he new? Was he going outside to smoke? It was simply mind boggling. He wasn't even waiting on another table because there was only one other small group of people eating and they had an entirely different waiter. At one point we thought his shift was over, that's how long one of his intervals was. It was when he took the check with cash in it (we tried so hard to come up with exact change and trust me, we had plenty of time). He walked right passed the cash register and straight into the back. We were concerned that he just took our payment and booked. Any second our real waiter was going to approach us asking if we were ready to pay. For his sake, I really hope he no longer works here or at any sort of eating establishment.
