I've had mussels before at Bertha's and they were great. Not any more. I don't know if this is something new, but now they serve the sauces on the side instead of tossing the mussels in them. Horrible idea. By the time you dip your own, they aren't hot enough to soak in the flavor. Not sure why they are doing this, but it really doesn't work.

Look, if you're okay with your meal being a slow, tedious ordeal involving forgotten drinks, being charged for items you never received. and absentee waitstaff, then by all means come to Bertha's. The food is pretty solid and reasonably priced, for seafood. The mussels are good and alcohol is tasty, albeit a bit weak (for the cocktails.) But the slowness and incompetence of the service is completely unacceptable.

Fun eclectic restraint at fells point Maryland super close to Hopkins. :-) really yummy mussels hamburger was a bit dry but not too bad. :-) love the decorations and ambiance. Waitress "chose" our flavored for mussels and was 100% right to do so!!! :-D

This is my favorite place to go for seafood. Quiet atmosphere, professional service, amazing food. Seeing negative reviews for this place blows my mind.

I've lived in MD, near Baltimore most of my life. I never had the honor of eating at Bertha's Mussels, but when an out of towner came in to visit, I suggested it. OMG, awful. First we wanted to know what the fish was. Waitress say's, "oh, sorry we are out of fish". Unreal. I just couldn't believe a restaurant on the waterfront in Baltimore, is out of fish. So, I ordered the mussels. The worse mussels I've ever had. Dry, mushy, garlic butter on side. Really? Why wouldn't you want them covered in a great garlic sauce? Why wouldn't you want them to be fantastic? Bread was stale. I was just thankful that my visitor didn't order any. NEVER WILL GO BACK, NO MATTER WHAT POSITIVE REVIEWS SAY!

Very disappointed. My wife and I enjoy mussels and were looking forward to going to Bertha's to experience them. We both ordered the mussels with garlic butter and capers as an appetizer. My wife ordered the Oyster stew and I had steamed shrimp. In all other instances when I have had mussels (not at Bertha's) they are served with the broth they have been steamed in. In our case, we would have assumed that the mussels would come out with the garlic butter broth and capers. Instead, the mussels were brought out dry, with no hint of having been cooked in garlic butter at all. We were then each supplied with a small container of capers, which I imagine were we supposed to add an individual caper to each mussel. However, even if I was that patient, there were nowhere near enough capers provided to do that. The mussels wound up being dry and tasteless. That being said, the steamed shrimp were good and my wife said she enjoyed the oyster stew. That's why there are two stars instead of one or none. I guess my final thoughts are we went to Bertha's for the mussels and we were disappointed with the mussels. We will not go back.

Pretty cool building and could accommodate our party of six on a busy Saturday night. The mussels were tasty, but that's about it. Small, but good piece of Brazilian Tiger Fish (reminded me of redfish) was way overpriced. Two of the group were vegetarians and had three choices: black bean burger, mushroom ravioli (which was enjoyed) and some plate of veggies (which was not enjoyed). The person near me had a chicken dish with sliced peaches in it and I had a taste of the chicken -- it was rubbery and without flavor like the junk from a food service truck. Not impressed. We were planning on going to One-Eyed Jack's from a local friend's recommendation, but it was full.
