The chips and salsa they give you when you sit down are worth the visit alone. Steak and Chicken Fajitas are amazing. And enough for 2 people to share!

We've gone here many times and were very pleased. However this Saturday night we were totally ignored by the staff, we asked for drinks And never received even a glass of water. All the waitress and waiters walked by us and turned their backs on us,very upsetting. We will not be returning. We waited 30 minutes and left. Apparently we were invisibles to them.

Delicious and cheap margaritas. I find the guatemalan food to be delicious and authentic. The mexican food is also very good, though slightly (just slightly) americanized. The tacos and papusas are delicious, too.

Great place, very lively with amazing food. I had the carne Asadaa la Mexicana. My server was friendly and worked fast. Food came out in 10 minutes. Would come here again.

I've eaten at Pasisano many times since it first opened and was always satisfied. That all changed this Sunday, Mother's day. I took my mother to eat, i ordered 5 tacos de pastor, and my mother got Carne Asada. The pastor did not taste as usual and neither did my mother's carne asada, rice or beans. Also my mother's carne asada was overcooked. The food tasted entirely different. When the waiter came to check on us, I told her and asked her why it tastes different, and she informed me that the head chef Pepe did not work there anymore. What I understood was that the chef was the one who prepared all the sauces and marinades.. which is probably why our meat didn't taste so good either. Another thing is that I got my mother a flan, and it takes horrid, it had no flavor. I really used to love Paisanos food, but I dont think I would be coming back here now that the chef is gone, all the food just tastes inconsistent and bad now.

i'm from San Diego, California so i was doubting the quality of this Latino influenced food but what we had wasnt too shabby. I work remote so our main office is in Newton and we went for drinks after work. BTW i cant believe "happy hour" is illegal in MASS! WTH! FOOD/DRINKS: totally got the Margaritas and they were not too strong nor sweet. They came in a cute cactus cup that i wanted to bring home haha We shared Ceviche, not that great, and the Mexican "Pizza" which was surprisingly satisfying. PRICE: i dont remember how much it was... but i would say average? AMBIANCE: random hole in the wall and not good for loud parties, aka me and my friend who laugh super loud. The restaurant was kinda shaped weird and enclosed. Clean but you can tell it was an older place. SERVICE: they were attentive and friendly.

I've been coming here for about two years since Sierra's closed. I hate to write a review because I'm afraid if word gets out well have to wait in line and never get a table. But the staff is so great and food is so good I feel guilty for not checking in sooner. I like to try something new every time I come and have made it half way through the menu and have never been disappointed.

My sister in law told me to try this place. Menu is authentic and includes Guatemalan foods as well as Mexican. Staff was friendly but more concerned with chatting than serving guests. The young lady who served us was I experienced and had a tough time with English. The food was fair - not great. The restaurant needs updating and cleaning. The margarita was awful. The refried beans excellent! I'd go here with kids or maybe on an evening for just nachos.

Definitely a fan of this place. Their drinks are strong, their appetizers are great and their carne asada is superb as well as the fajitas. If you want some authentic Mexican food, go here. It's a hole in the wall type place so don't expect to be wowed by the ambiance or a world class mariachi band or something, but it does the trick if you want a laid back meal and to get a little buzzed with some good cocktails. I would definitely recommend it for eating in or take out.

  • Sean R.

Been back a fee more times... Margaritas are still strong and the chips and salsa are good, but I've had a fee dishes that were just average. Stick to the staples; pastor taco plate, fajitas, quesadilla etc.

Every time I am craving authentic Mexican cuisine, I go here. If more people knew of this place, I believe that they would put Margarita's on Moody street out of business. That is how good their food is! I order the same thing every time. Carne Asada. It's always good every time. I love the flavor, tenderness and consistency. Everything is just so good there. Just go, you won't be disappointed.

AMAZING FOOD!!! I got the shrimp enchiladas and they are covered in this incredible chipotle creme sauce. My boyfriend got a Guatemalan meat platter with 4 different meats. All delicious. We also got the ceviche as an appetizer. It was mostly shrimp which is fine as I could probably live on shrimp but if you're looking for some unique recipe, it's definitely not. It was still very good. I had Horchata with my dinner and it was different from the Mexican Horchata I'm used to. Not as sweet or cinnamon-y but also, still tasty. The only thing about this place is that it needs a renovation. Five stars for the quality of food and price. Three stars for the atmosphere. The booth we sat in against the window was cold. Most likely because the windows are a million years old. And the dining room tables and chairs look like they should be in a cafeteria. We will definitely be ordering delivery again. Don't know if I'll go to eat there though.

  • Karrie S.

SUPER disappointed - my husband and I have ordered delivery and gone here for years. We have brought many friends and they have enjoyed the food and atmosphere as well. That all came to a screeching halt the day I picked up the phone and placed a delivery order and was told they no longer deliver to our address because it takes too long to deliver there. We had moved about 6 months previous and continued to order delivery from them with no problem (we only moved a little over a mile away from our old place). There was no warning and the person I spoke with didn't care. I asked to speak with a manager or supervisor and was told that there was no one there in that position. I said it could mean that we would no longer be customers (as well as other friends we had introduced) and the response literally was, "oh well - sorry." It's sad that there is no loyalty to customers who have been coming back for nearly the whole time they have been open. I guess now that they have a lot of business, it doesn't matter.

I love this place. Used to go here all the time for lunch when I worked close by. My food has always been fresh and tasty and back when I ate beef, they had this really yummy marinated steak dish, I think the CHURRASCO? or maybe CARNE ASADA? I forget. Sometimes the food can be a little dry, like it needs more sauce, but it's still good and they have yummy chips and salsa. They have outdoor seating which is nice in warmer weather, although the view isn't that great, it's across form a cemetery.

This place has the most authentic Mexican food in Boston; it's the only place I've found mole that actually tastes like the mole they serve in Mexico. The free nacho tortilla chips and salsa they give as appetizers are very good. The masa they use for huaraches is practically the same as the original. The refried beans are also great. The seating is comfortable and it is family friendly, with prompt service and nice waiters. Prices are very reasonable. They have a small parking lot.

We keep coming back here for the Salvadorian pupusas, churasco pitchers of margarita and sangria, the great service and the great location. On Saturday nights, they have the local mariachi band year round. In the summer, you can take advantage of their patio. Late evenings, the bar side takes the whole building over. If you have an affinity toward sappy Mexican music, they have a karaoke night as well.

  • Stephanie H.

I had a taco platter and my husband had the churrasco - the food was great! It was fresh, quick and reasonably priced. Servers were friendly and prompt. My 7 month old was happy with the fresh side of avocado we got :)

Discovered this place this past week and boy what a find! Small place which was great. Very friendly and attentive staff. Great margaritas, I opted for the strawberry and my boyfriend went with the regular one. Delicious salsa and chips - and they offered refills since we were so hungry when we arrived. The portions were absolutely HUGE! I went for the steak fajitas and my boyfriend went with the steak quesadilla. Both tasted delicious. I will definitely be returning!

  • Eunice E.

Two words: BEEF SOUP. Wow! That was the tastiest concoction of fall-off-the-bone beef and vegetables I ever did try. The bowl was humongous--definitely big enough to share between two people--but you might not want to once you take a taste of it. The ambiance is a bit lacking, but I think it's less about how the restaurant looks, and more about how the restaurant's food tastes here. Apparently, on weekend nights, they move the seats and tables in the back to open up space for dancing. I think I'll need some cerveza before that happens, but at least I know the possibility exists! I also tried their original quesadillas with shredded chicken, which was awesome, and went well with the tomato salsa that came with our tortilla chips (complimentary!), but the star of the entire meal was definitely the soup.

Went with a group of 4 deep into the heart of Watertown. Which actually ended up being Waltham. Who knew? Anyway, we were seated quickly and noticed the very pleasant aroma of cinnamon, sugar, and fried dough. Ahhh Mexican food. Started off with Sangria (the waitress suggested over margarita) and were happy. Very sweet but also not weak. And had a bunch of fruit floating in it, which is mandatory. I always ask first. While enjoying the drinks we enjoyed copious fresh chips and some tasty salsa. We were all hungry, so we ate about 1000 calories of chips and salsa before the meal came, but that's what happens in a Mexican place. So we enjoyed in a gordo-like style. (gordo means fat, right?) Meals were parrillada something and enchiladas especialle. We shared. Food was great. The entire meal was great and the service was good too. Great dining experience! And prices were reasonable as well.

This place has been a hit or miss for me. Ive gotten very delicious food and very bland (huarache). Also I had a bad experience over the phone while calling for delivery. I called them back bc I was missing the rice from my plate, Rosemary, the girl on the phone, rudely told me the plate doesnt come w it when the menu clearly states it does. I suggested they should update it and she rudely said Whatever n hung up on me. THEY will be hearing FROM me agaiN TO PLACE A COMPLAINT. I dont play that shyt lol

I like to support local, small business so I will try places that are a little off the radar. Sadly, this place did not meet my expectations. We were 8 people and mostly made up of kids and the waitress could not have been nicer and attentive. Also, mariachi band ... yes, please play for us. On the positive side, I think this place is totally worth a stop in for a tasty margarita and some homemade guac and yummy chips. Sadly, we ordered so much that was not good. We got a lot of apps like chicken fingers and wings (hello kids) and they were ok. The pupusas (and we got all kinds they had) was a total miss ... it even got a big thumbs down from the kids who like this kind of thing. For the adults, I got the chicken fajitas and my friend got the chicken enchilada. She returned hers and did not order anything else. Mine was dry and overcooked and the marinade did not work -- I added the salsa and sour cream to see if that would help, but nope. They were very sweet there so I might go back and get another delicious margarita and maybe try something else from the app menu.

Full disclosure - I have tried a number of things on their menu and I have to agree with many on here Meh to Blegh! BUT for the past year or so my husband and I hit this place up for two things the churrasco and the pollo asado. I do not know what kind of crack or meth they are putting in their marinade but it is so freaking good - especially after you squeeze a lime over the dish! So honestly, I am a fan of two dishes not sure if that merits a 4 star rating but I know a little piece of me would die if I couldn't have my churrasco or pollo asado once a month.

I love Paisanos. We eat there at least probably once a week. It's nothing fancy, but the food is great. Ceviche is awesome, Chicarones, Buritos, and any of the plates with steak or chicken. The drinks are relatively strong and they are cheap, which is always good. They also have Coke made with Sugar. The way it should be. Not fancy but great.

I was in Waltham, MA visiting some friends and we were looking for a spot to have dinner. I didn't know the area too well.. so of course I had to check yelp. We found this humble little Mexican joint.. don't let the appearance fool you. The food and drinks were GREAT!! I kinda love this place now. We started off with some pupusas, chips and salsa and from there we were hooked! We enjoyed our entrees, the service, and best of all.. the margaritas were strong and yummy. The restaurant got pretty full after 7pm, seems like a popular place in the area. Go and Enjoy yourself! *cheers*

I have to say I was completely disappointed with Paisano. But, first the good. The staff is super nice and friendly and helpful. They accomodated 8 people, 5 of them being kids, no problem and were incredibly attentive. The Margarita's are a bit pricey and meh. We tried several different apps and everyone got a different entree. My chicken enchiladas were dry and tasted like they had been rolled last minute and nuked. If they weren't then there is no excuse for the lack of freshness and flavor. We got 6 different Papusas and no one could eat them. They were flabby and falling apart and the flavor was odd. Like the stuffings were old. It is a nice touch that they have the Mariachi band, but seriously, standing a foot away from our table while the music blared for 30 minutes obliterated all conversation. Ok...I hate that I'm writing this and hoping we just had an off night, as others seem to really like this place. I don't know what went wrong.

I only come here when the weather is good, because it's one of the few places in Waltham to have an alfresco meal. The patio is great (& has an outdoor ATM ... convenient), and once (I think it was Mother's Day?) we had a mariachi band!!! The food is good: tongue tacos & chicharrones! Delish. Very good, very fresh guacamole. I drink south american beer when I'm there, so I can't comment on the margaritas. The service is slow, but on a nice day sitting in the sun & eating a good meal, who cares?

Unsure how this place ever gets less than 5 stars. Authentic mexican cuisine with a huge menu and basically something for everyone Very good service, Very reasonable drink prices, delicious food. what more do you need? Get the "wet burrito", "tacos", or "enchiladas" you'll be glad you did

  • C M.

This place is pretty good. It was better, i think they changed head chefs... its not known for Mexican, but the Guatamalian food is the best around..... Don't go on nights they have their mariachi band walk around and play because the place is so small and they are so loud you can hardly hear yourself think let alone talk to anyone you are dining with. I dont care who you are, nobody likes having a trumpet blown 3 feet from their head. Also they get a little uppity if you ask them not to play near you, even if you offer them money not to. Go for the Guatamalian food, leave for the Mariachi.

The only way this place could be better is if it was located in my house. I sum up the review as "good god". The food is so tasty....so incredibly tasty. Just for the love of god...so, so tasty. I have gotten many things on the menu each so tasty. I am literally salivating thinking about the pork chimichunga. Wait time on Monday? No wait. Parking on Monday? Yes any other night use a side street. Waitress? Awesome. Food (see above). Go. Seriously. Your tastebuds will thank you.

I've ordered takeout from Paisano's twice now, and I've added it into my regular repertoire of dinner options. Generally when I go for Mexican it's a burrito-centric spot like Anna's Taqueria, but I found Paisano's because I was looking for something a little different. I've had two of their Mexican plates - the enchiladas with red sauce, and the fajitas de res (steak). I enjoyed the latter more but both were satisfactory. The portion sizes are good, I was stuffed both times. I also got the tostadas with refried beans each time which are quite tasty. In the future I plan on trying their burritos just for comparison with the more well known burrito joints. All in all, if you're looking for a variety of traditional Mexican options, Paisano is definitely worth a try.

The waitstaff was very friendly and the menu (with pictures of the food) was comprehensive. I'm sure if I had gone on Friday night this place would have gotten four stars since they have a live Mariachi band - and who doesn't like live Mariachi? I recommend you give this spot a go if you're in Waltham and in the mood for some Mexican grub. The parking lot was tiny, but there was on street parking though the road is pretty busy.

I am not picky and have worked as a server so I am usually very understanding when I have sub-par service, but this was such a negative experience. After we were seated, we ordered drinks. These took twenty minutes to arrive and then our food orders were taken. The food took 45 minutes from this point to arrive with no follow up service in between. It took over an hour to receive our food, and after this, I felt like the server was going out of his way to ignore us. The fried food was beyond overcooked but the burrito was very tasty. I would come back if i had a day to kill and wanted to eat a burrito on a patio. But other than this, I would not go back for an in-restaurant dining experience.

My bias: I work in a southwestern restaurant with a very large tequila selection and very high standards. Despite my bias, the food at this restaurant was amazing. I got these cheese enchiladas with a chipotle cream sauce and they were delectable. However, the margaritas are not as good as advertised, although perhaps they would be if you requested a certain tequila. I ordered the house one and it was premixed, which I didn't like to begin with. It was not very tasty, but keeping my bias in mind I ordered food anyway and I was blown away. It tasted so authentic. In addition, I felt the staff were very nice. I do not speak fluent Spanish, but I know a few words. This was well-appreciated. This is so close to my apartment, I will definitely be back again, but not for drinks.

Meh. I want to try it again sometime and update my review, but for now it was SO-So. Ate too many nachos, evil for bringing those! Beer is a decent selection, perhaps I should have tried a margarita. My group was 22 people, basically the only ones there for lunch. They forgot my meal. I was sort of pissed, but not starved, so I didn't say much. Try: Soft tacos stuffed with... yeah, I don't know. I forget.

I just came back from Paisano. My three girls and I shared 2 pitchers of the house margarita. $10 a person. I'm not quite coherent enough to write this review to the best of my abilities. They brought my wet burrito dry. I asked about it and they promptly fixed it without giving me a hard time. Slightly cheaper and more flavorful than Margaritas on Moody, where we usually go. Cheaper/stronger drinks as well. Fewer vegetarian options, but more desert options. Chips and salsa WAY better than the competition's. 2.99 just to add guac to our nachos. But I'm not too miffed since we spent less $ on alcohol than usual. This might be our new margarita Monday spot. Sorry, Tio Juan.

LOVE PAISANO. I have been coming to this place for a few years and I just think it's great. I've spent some time in Guatemala and my family is from South America, so I'm always looking for good latin fare. My favorite thing here is the pupusa. I usually get 2 pupusas and an order of platano maduros. for $8.00, I am stuffed. Margaritas are good and inexpensive. if you come on a friday night (i think), there is a live mariachi band. awesome. Service can be a bit slow, but it's just what i've come to expect at a small mexican restaurant. you go there to have a good time with friends and eat good food. don't be disappointed that you need to spend an extra 15 minutes waiting. it's well worth it.

Authentic Mexican and Guatemalan cuisine. No lie. Also, delicious mojitos and margaritas. A friend and I were craving tacos and tequila and he heard about this spot from a co-worker, so naturally, we went right away. To start we got carne y camarones (beef and shrimp) with peppers, onions and my personal favorite, cilantro. For lunch I got the Tacos Dorados. They were also pretty decent, the corn tortillas were crispy and the lettuce, tomatoes and avocado were all extremely fresh, my only complaint was that the chicken was dry. He got the Bistec a la Mexicana, your choice of beef, chicken or shrimp in a delicious jalapeno tomatoe sauce, served with warm corn tortillas. All and all, it was pretty great lunch and I will certainly be heading back to try more of thier guatemalan dishes.

Order the El Presidente Margarita, and the steak fajita quesadillas and you will be very happy!! I have also tried some of their spicy entree dishes. I have lived in Waltham for about 6 months, and 50% of the time, going out to dinner = going out to paisanos! We finally went on a Saturday night, and it was awesome, the Mariachi band was such a great addition to the atmosphere.

We came here on one of the first sunny, warm days to sit at the outside deck on the recommendation of a friend that the margaritas are cheap & strong. On our way there (we live probably less than a mile away), some jerk in one of those cars with a really loud, revving souped up engine was tailgaiting us the whole way. We pulled in, he stopped behind us & let his 15ish yr old girlfriend out of the car. Five minutes later, she was at our table taking our drink order. (She turned out to be very nice & we left her a note on the check to wear her seatbelt when in teh car w/ that tool!) Now, to the food. The drinks were fantastic. We got basic margaritas, 5 bucks a pop. This will be my go-to saturday afternoon spot for outdoor drinking in the afternoon w/ some chips & salsa. We order the nachos & the chicken quesadillas. The nachos had cheese whiz instead of real cheese, but they still tasted really good. The chicken quesadillas were delicious, but w/ nachos & numerous margaritas I couldn't eat them all & had to take them home. Note --- got soggy & gross as take out & couldn't really eat them. Definitely better to eat on the spot. They had some other good authentic food on the menu I look forward to trying. The staff was young (see above). I only was inside to use the restroom, so I don't know what it's like to hang out in there. The crowd is waltham local -- maybe not the best place for your kids when all the adults are out front...but that's fine w/ me!!!!

Reading through the comments below I think they are mostly on - though I am amazed at the one "poor service" comment. I just started going here and I would say that yes, this is real Guatemalan/Mexican cuisine. Great poupusas and tacos in many different varieties (and large servings). They split the bar from the restaurant, so the restaurant area is quieter, if a little more crammed. (I am a bar side of the place kind of person.) In the summer they do have tables outside as well, which I think would make for better family dining. ADD: Hey I just found out they recycle their Used Veggie Oil. Pretty cool. Work with a group called LocallyGreen...

I've gone to this restaurant about 5 times now and each time it was a great experience. It has become my semi regular dinner spot on Mondays before I head to The Skellig for pub trivia. The margarita is cheap ($5) and actually a great drink. I assumed I would get a watered down mess. It is most likely just margarita mix as it tasted store bought and tequila, but enough tequila to make it decent. I've been with different parties and we mainly stick with the basics (Tacos dorads, burritos, & enchiladas) but I've enjoyed everything that I've tried. And the chips and salsa are bottomless and better than most places around. The first time service was really slow even though there were only two other tables in the restaurant part and maybe 3 people at the bar. This has improved since then. Drinks were brought out quickly and orders even for picky eaters came out correctly. This is a great place to go for a more home cooked version of Mexican food that you would normally find in and around Boston. Zocalo in Brighton is still my favorite, but Paisanos is a close second.

Paisano is somewhere you should go, period. We live down the street, but would drive to get here. The churraco (sp?) steak is AMAZING. The food is superb, and the "ritas ( presidential is pricy, but great ) - go on saturday and experience the glory of the mariachi band. You owe it to yourself to go here - it has not been quite "discovered" by the Moody street restaurant row crowd. Go, Now. - wait, forget what I said, we don't want the crowds from Moody Street !!

So first let me say I have only tried the tacos. They came quickly and I liked them. The seasoning on the meat was right on. I actually mentioned these to some other folks and now we get them delivered regularly at work. Personally I like to eat there. The lengua (tongue) was good as well. I like the tacos plain but most of my friends get all the stuff on them. Nice flavor to their spicy salsa.

I have always enjoyed the pollo asado. Nice seasoning on the grilled chicken with some sliced avocado on the side makes a great meal. The real treat at this restaurant is the margaritas, they are well prepared and not overpriced. Great place to go on a weeknight and have a good time.

My favorite restaurant. I have gone there a lot and gotten take out a few times and it is always perfect. From the Carne de mexicana (might be spelled wrong) to their shrimp dishes it is always perfect. I cant wait to go back.

  • Tim C.

Paisano's is a fun restaurant, and feels more authentic than most Mexican restaurants in Boston. People around here call Boloco Mexican food, so maybe that isn't saying much. Their margaritas are inexpensive and quite good. The chips that are served before dinner are better than most others', second probably only to Border Cafe in my opinion. The food is consistently good and inexpensive. There is occasionally a Mariachi band in the restaurant, which is unique, although admittedly it is a little awkward to have them playing directly at your table while you are eating.

LOVE this place! If you are looking for reasonably priced and authentic Mexican food, this is your spot. The food is unreal and every time I leave I can't wait to come back. The first time I ever discovered this place was when I moved to Waltham a year ago and jogged by on a morning run. It looks small from the outside sort of like your typical "hole in the wall" (which was its appeal to me), so I decided to tell by boyfriend we should try it. Once we did, we named it our "go to" place in Waltham. I got the ensalada ranchero with beef expecting to get ground beef. No! It was chunks of steak, so good! I loved it. My boyfriend got the chicken fajita which was huge with rice and refried beans as a side. Before we even got to the food we both ordered House margaritas which are priced at perfectly at $5 and were great! After the first round, we decided to try out their version of a "skinny" margarita, wowza!! Talk about knock your socks off. It was a little more expensive at around $9, but worth it! It was actually quite strong, so strong that I asked the waiter what it was made with, he responded, Patron and lime juice. That's it! I actually had to ask him to add a little sour mix because it was a little much for me, but my boyfriend was hooked. After coming here many times, I would have to recommend the Presidente Margarita which tastes the best, but still has a good kick to it. (Priced around $8). The staff are all very friendly and are willing to explain any questions you have about the menu since some of it is very authentic. The menu is very helpful as it has pictures of most of the dishes next to the name which was great for the first time I came here (bad if you are really hungry because you want everything). They also have karaoke on Friday nights which is pretty funny and they have a song for everyone! I love the variety of music people sing, you can hear a song in full Spanish one minute and then the next it is Jason Aldean. On Saturday night's half of the restaurant turns into a huge dance floor complete with a rotating disco ball, so if you are looking for a quiet evening on either of these two nights, you may want to search elsewhere, but believe me you will want to come back again!

The ceviche here is TO DIE FOR. If you have ever been to Costa Rica or Guatemala, you will know what I am talking about, this is the real deal. I've only been here once but I plan on returning. Great service (I speak Spanish which does make things easier), large portions and I really got the feeling that the food is authentic. It's not the kind of gringo-matic stuff you get at most Mexican places. I loved the tostadas app (not like Puerto Rican tostadas) which are fried corn tortillas topped with guacamole and grated cheese - sounds simple, but incredibly tasty. A mi me gusta!

I fell in love with Paisano's the first time I went there. I mean, they serve Pupusas! The salsa was fresh and the portions are enormous. The prices are reasonable as well. I don't think their margaritas are top notch, but that doesn't kill it for me. The food is consistently good. I did go on a Friday night and caught the Mariachi band - it was cool, but really loud.

I went for the first time on Cinco de Mayo, so take this with a grain of salt. However, for such a big Mexican holiday the place wasn't that crowded, considering other places had lines out the door. I guess that should have been an warning sign. While waiting for a table (which only took 20 minutes - on Cinco de Mayo!) I tried desperately to get some drinks at the bar. I had to resort to pulling out a Twenty and waving it in the air hoping that one of the 3 bartenders would stop cleaning long enough to make eye contact. Other customers told me they had the same problems. The bartenders just didn't seem interested in serving drinks. I finally got 2 Coronas just as our table was ready. The waitress was friendly enough and helped a friend pick out her order, and even brought us a 2nd bowl of chips & salsa. Then, 40 minutes goes by without our waitress in sight even once. Maybe she went on break during the dinner rush? I don't know. We started to ask other waitresses and the hostess about our food because it was already 9:30 and I was 2 drinks in and starving. Five minutes later our waitress finally arrives with our food. "Oh, we don't seem to have any silverware..." "I'll be right back" Minute goes by, and our waitress passes us by and shouts over her shoulder, "I'll be right back." Then goes to the far end of the room and takes the order at another table then disappears. In the meantime, we're just watching our food get cold. I finally start pestering the other waitresses again, and they all promise they'd get us silverware. It took more than 5 minutes before our sullen looking waitress to come back with utensils. The food was OK, but not great. Authentic, yes. It's not often you see an entire fish presented, head and all. But considering we had to wait nearly an hour to eat and the waitstaff didn't seem interested in making happy customers, I won't likely be back here again.

I've been here a few times now for lunch and drink. The food is always as good as any other Mexican restaurant in the area I know of. They have a Mexican sandwich that is unbelievably good called Tortas. Get it with the seasoned pork and you will be hurrying back again. There are plenty of drinks to go around mainly tequila.

Paisano's is absolutely delicious! I am from the southwest & always in search of good Mexican food (which is so hard to find around here) & Paisano's is a winner. The Mexican food is great & (obviously) the Guatemalan food is great. The Carne Asada is my favorite plate but everything is good (the Chicarron, the tacos (al pastor are my favorites), the pupusas, etc.etc). The milkshakes & desserts are good too. My recommendation is to go often & try different things b/c honestly, I haven't ever gotten anything I didn't like. Good food & good atmosphere. 5 stars

Wow - talk about a pleasant surprise! Expectations were low when we ended up here on Cinco de Mayo, post-work. After a short wait, we squeezed our party of 6 into a booth with 2 chairs on the end - thanks to the staff for letting us do that. Mariachi band was a little intrusive and loud but excused as it was Cinco de Mayo.....and I believe they wrapped it up shortly after coming to our table so they must've been booked for just an hour or so. Service was friendly, if a little scattered with our revolving drink orders. A large party was seated in an adjacent area so we could see the server had her work cut out for her. Shared nachos were tasty, friends' tacos looked fresh and my chimichanga was the best I've had. Ingredients tasted truly fresh and homemade - nothing canned or old here. Cheap top-shelf margaritas and Mexican beers are just what the medico ordered!

At the urging of a fellow Yelper, I gave this place a shot. My biggest gripe with Margaritas (the other mexican joint across town) was the blandness of the food. Here, I decided to get the wet burrito and it was huge. Good portion of rice and beans. The burrito was stuffed with pork and vegetables and very tasty, with a good helping of sour cream and red sauce. I forgot to order the guacamole, which I hear is excellent. The Paisano margarita was very strong/tasty. Three of these and I don't recommend driving home. I highly recommend this hole in the wall place, located right on the Waltham/Newton line.

A lot more 'authentic' than most south american restaurants in the area. Decent beer and alcohol selection and yay outdoor seating! Also woo-hoo! Decent vegetarian options! Ilve only been here twice and both times I've gotten the vegetable fajita burrito, with verde sauce and it has not failed to be one of the

Best Mexican we found in the area. Decent quality and size portions. First margarita was weak, second was perfect. We had trouble reading the menu because the meat options were in Spanish. I know pollo, but did not know pork, spiced pork or cow tounge. I had to ask the waitress making me feel kind of stupid. I wish they had a key in the corner.

A friend recommended this place so we gave it a shot. Boy did it suck. First, we asked if the kids quesadillas were enough for my 2 kids to share and the waitress told us they were tiny, so we ordered 1 each. Of course, she proceeded to deliver 2 abundant kids plates of quesadillas that an adult would have a hard time choking down, never mind a kid. Next, our food (tacos) were just OK. Nothing to write home about, at all. The guacamole wasn't even seasoned (a little salt and some lime, not rocket science). What I really found obnoxious was the nervy 18% tip already included "for our convenience" on the bill. For a party of 4? This just smacks of "hope they aren't paying attention and tip twice." Shady. Enough negativity, for GOOD Mexican food there are only 2 places in Waltham: Taqueria Mexico and Taqueria El Amigo. The latter having the superior food, but zero ambiance if you are eating there and not doing takeout. The thing that sets these 2 apart from the likes of Paisano are the fresh ingredients and the salsas. And by salsas, I mean those in addition to pico de gallo.

This review is only for the food as I have never actually been to the location. My job ordered take out from Paisano's one day and it was AWESOME! Their guac was DELICIOUS! I will order from here again!

I gotta say, they left a lot to be desired. The food service was slow and the menu had 1 thing for vegetarians. I don't eat dairy so I made a special point to be explicit in what I actually wanted in the burrito, which they promptly ignored. They acted really annoyed when I tried to get it remade (since, well, I couldn't eat it). I'm not a very rude person when it comes to stuff like this (since it can and does happen on occasion), so I didn't appreciate their reaction. There's a rowdier crowd there then you'd expect, so it can be a little distracting if you're just trying to get a meal. The drinks were ok, but with the service, I'd rather get them somewhere else. If you're looking for Mexican in Waltham, go to Tacqueria. It's 20x better than this place and I've never been disappointed with their food/service. I don't normally frequent Margaritas, but their drinks are a little better than the ones at this place. If you're not a vegetarian, you might have better results, but it's not worth my time again.

Okay, so I am feeling under the weather today and pretty much HAD to order in because I don't feel like cooking. I couldn't find anyplace that delivered fried chicken (which I have been craving) so I looked for mexican and this was the only place that delivers in Waltham. The fact that a Mexican place has an Italian name should have been my first clue. Rather, is WAS my first clue, but I ignored it, trying that whole "don't judge a book" thing. Incidentally, they DO have fried chicken on their menu, but I figured I'd go with their specialties instead of ordering American food. So I ordered a cheese pupusa and a chicharron pupusa and I took a bite of each, but can't taste ANYTHING but grease. So goes the appetizer. The Chicharron con Yuca is dry as anything (both parts- the pork and the yuca). I can't get it down my throat even if I soak it in the poor excuse for salsa they send with it (it looks like super-thin tomato juice) and there was something resembling cole slaw with it- but like, if you put coleslaw in the microwave or something... wilty and warm and just REVOLTING... the whole plate is inedible. i ordered tamalitos con elote for dessert. They gave me some trouble about it over the phone, unsure of what I was saying because it sounded like a zoo on the other end.. but then she said she understood me when I told her where on the menu it was and said the English translation as well as the name on the menu. Apparently, they think that rellanitos and tamalitos con elote are the same thing, because I ordered and repeated "tamalitos con elote" THREE TIMES at LEAST and they delivered rellanitos. I do not like beans. I wanted sweet corn tamale, not a mashed plantain stuffed with freakin' beans. I ordered atol de elote as a beverage, and at least they got that right. Also, they said 30 minutes for delivery and took over an hour. This place is like 2 miles away from me. Really though... an appetizer, an entree, a dessert and a beverage and the ONLY thing that isn't going in the trash is the beverage. Complete waste of both time and money. AVOID.

I have been to this restaurant several times; decent for authentic mexican fare; not the cleanest, but....last night, went in with some friends (ladies in our 50's). Group of employees sitting in front table acted like we were imposing on them. Drinks came 15 min later with rotten fruit in them. They turned up rap music so loud we couldn't hear, and when asked them to turn it down (since we ere the only patrons) they got very angry, swore at us, wouldn't tell us who the manager was. In fear for the quality of our food yet to be delivered, we left to a slew of insults, If this is family owned, then the family needs to know what is going on. Will never go back and will take many friends with us. Too many good mexican restaurants in the area to put up with this teen angst.

I went here last night with a large group for my friend's birthday. Nice ambiance, friendly staff and good food. Really fresh salsa with chips to start with. Extremely good prices. The plantains and crema were tasty. The mole that comes with the enchiladas was excellent. Guacamole was good as well. The fajitas come in huge portions. I definitely want to come back.

The pupusas are amazing, but the burrito is only made with refried beans--delish if that's what you're after; but if you want a 'healthier' and fresher burrito, then it can't be done here.

I think Paisano is a fun place to grab some chow and a drink. The service was great, the ambiance was comfortable, and the enchiladas were yummy!! I love any place that has papusas, too, and they make some good papusas. I don't go there often, although after writing this review, I'm not sure why I don't. Might be a nice place to enjoy the patio when the weather warms up!!

First off, I want to say that, like the reviewers before me, I am a vegetarian. Unlike the others, I really like Paisano's. While it is true that the menu is limited for veggie-heads, I asked for something not on the menu and got it, no problem (as vegetarians, this is often the case, just ask what they will do for you -- often you will be quite pleased with what the chef is willing to put together). The staff is super accommodating, even if there is an occasional language issue -- between my Italian and bad California Spanish, we work it through together. The sangria rocks, and I love the mariachis on Friday night!

Paisano serves both mexican and guatemalan dishes. i am a little unclear as to what the "traditional guatemalan salad" is-- i have eaten enchiladas here, as well as the pupusa appetizer (sort of like a mini quesadilla, but done guatemalan style) which were both delicious! i'm giving it only 4 stars because the last time i was there we got one dish right away and the other about 10 minutes later with no explanation. but i will return! i suggest the enchiladas-- large portion and very tasty!

My review would probably be more favorable if I wasn't a vegetarian - only the veggie burrito for you my friend (even then I wasn't sure the lard content)! Service was friendly and timely. Some unique dishes for those carnivores out there.

This might be my favorite mexican restaurant in all of Massachusetts. Not only do they have the BEST chicken quesidilla I have ever had....but the mariachi band is the best. There is nothing I would rather do on a friday night then drink a margarita and eat some amazing mexican food. The service is a bit slower than most places the food is well worth the wait.....the carne asada is the juiciest most amazing steak around..you need to try this place..you won't be disappointed!

I have gone a few times and have never been disappointed. I have a friend from New Hampshire that lived in Mexico that asks to visit it everytime she is in town. The staff is nice and the food is yummy. One time I did have a margarita that was too sour and too but having had several from there I would get one again. They sometimes have live mariachi music that at times can get loud.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
