I lost my Indian food virginity here back in 1995 when I was a freshman at Brandeis...her name was Little India. From 1995 to 1998 (with a few semesters off for good behavior) I went to Little India several times a week for buffet lunch. I was addicted and overdid it more times than I can count. Hah, to be young with a full head of thick hair and stuffed from a ridiculously good Indian buffet in good old Waltham. Those were the days. I am reminded of a funny little incident that occurred one day at the buffet line. I had a very thin/sickly, bleached blond haired Indian friend who would pile up food on his plate and then not eat most of it. His eyes were bigger than his stomach. I remember the proprietor of Little India once took him aside and said: "my dear boy, take what you want, but eat what you take." Wise words that have stuck with me. Being a fat ass founding member of the clean plate club, I never had this issue. Anyway, back then the buffet cost $5.95 or $6.95, I can't remember...I wonder how much it is today? I remember their CTM being especially good and was for many years the gold standard that I would compare all CTM to. I have not been here in about 15 years, so can't really say what the food is like these days, but look forward to returning one day and reacquainting myself with this Waltham institution.

There are a number of Indian restaurants on Moody street and this is by far the best. It is actually my favorite Indian restaurant in the Boston area. The Dahl is outstanding as are all of the vegetarian dishes and the breads. The space is pretty comfortable and the service is good.

Little India is a good small restaurant serving buffet on all days. I am not big fan of chicken so tried their Beef Korma. It was good. Mild and creamy.vegetarian dish bainghan bharatha (egg plant) was also good. Naan on the buffet was cold and mostly uncooked. Service is good. Only thing I liked on buffet was beef korma. It is reasonably priced good Indian food.

This place is one of the oldest Indian restaurant on Moody st, and I have been coming here for years. However when I compare it to newly opened Santa Banta across the street I see what I was missing. Bad part is owners don't want to change anything even after telling them what is missing and they need to revise their menu. Food here is ok surely not bad but when you compare it to Santa Banta it needs to improve a lot. Options on the buffet are very limited. Surprisingly little India is more expensive than the other. Hope they understand the competition and work on their menu, decor and service.

Completely misleading. photos, description of the food on the website. Everything is fake. Restaurant is not at all like what it is shown in the photos on their website. Same goes with the food. Very oily and mostly un-cooked meat. Everything looks dirty, ceiling has dust and spider webs. There was piece of bone under our table. Only bright spot was service was prompt and friendly. I wish at least food was little better. Not coming back for sure.

Not being from around here, I tried this restaurant out on a recommendation from a friend. WOW! Easily the best saag paneer I've ever had in my life. The service was very quick and polite. I strongly recommend this restaurant to anyone in the mood for Indian food.

Consistently good! We've been here several times. Food is always good, prices are reasonable. The owner is very friendly and actually enjoys talking with his customers. This is absolutely our go to place for Indian in Waltham.

This is by far the best Indian restaurant I've ever eaten at because of their delicious food and caring service. The waiters are caring and open to your needs. If anything, they will give you more than you ask for. Finally, one of my favorite drinks is their mango lassi and milkshake. The sweet mango flavors are very addicting. Also, the naan is hot, fresh, and tasty. Some of the best chicken dishes are chicken tikka masala, chicken tanduri, and chicken korma. For lunch, their buffet has a variety of options for meat-lovers and vegetarians.

They do not accept cash for delivery orders. This is absurd and causes me to not use their business! Too bad, because the food sounds like it is well-liked.

Went here for lunch with a Co-Worker and just stood at the entrance way looking to be sat down really awkwardly. Eventually someone came over and helped us find a seat. So, maybe sit yourself down if someone doesn't come over and just start? Service is great after that. Ambiance is pretty calming. Buffet lunch was decent for the price you're paying.

Beef was good but service was bad. Plates were not clean and the restaurant had a funny smell. It needs a lot of improvement.

Best Indian food on Moody Street. We've been going to Little India for close to twenty years, both for the lunch buffet and for dinner. Its our go-to restaurant in town, and they never let us down. The lunch buffet is always fresh and tasty, though not very hot (you can add chutnies for heat). There is always at least one appetizer plus salad to start. It also includes at least two veggie dishes and two meat curries, along with Tandori Chicken. Rice and fresh nan fill out the buffet. The dinner menu is typical northern Indian: veggie, lamb, chicken and seafood curries plus dopiaza's and breads. We haven't had a poor dish among them, and they are perfectly willing to make food really hot, or truly mild, depending on your preference. For dessert, their Keer is particularly good. The restaurant itself is divided into two rooms - one on the street and one in back. Both are warm and quiet. The service is great, and the prices reasonable. We'll keep going...

What's with the bad reviews? Anyway. Dropped in around 9:30pm in July 2014, late for dinner. It's nice that it's open late for a suburban restaurant. I was served rather fast -- older gentleman seated us promptly (as soon as we walked in), and gave us menus; gave us about 3-4 minutes and took our orders. Food was pretty quickly delivered. Quite tasty food -- well balanced with spices, not excessively buttery and well nuanced. Good price point too. Was clean, decor was good. Good size portions (still took some home with 2 entrees for my wife and myself). Good chutneys. I've been to quite a few Indian places in Cambridge, Somerville, Arlington, Burlington, Quincy, Roslindale, Dorchester, Weymouth ... this was good -- definitely in the top half, probably in the top quarter. Food: Quality - good; tastes - very good Service: Okay to Good Decor: nice, didn't pay too much attention Relatively quiet I would go again.

Ordered take-out. Reviews on Foodler were positive so decided to give it a try. I like spicy food, so I went with the Chicken Vindaloo. The portion was disappointing for the price ($14.95, maybe worth $10-$11), and not all that spicy. A ton more sauce than chicken or potatoes. Also got the Garlic Naan, that was pretty good. Delivery was quick, the driver was polite, but the price for the disappointing portion size, the lack of overall flavor in the chicken vindaloo, and the extra $2 charge for delivery will probably keep me from ordering from here again.

naaaaaan! oh warm, fresh yummy naan, how I love thee. I'm really not a fan of buffet, but I like that you can try a little of everything here. Lunch buffet for $10. Attentive waiters.....that are very quiet. One main dining room and then back dining area is for bigger groups and also has the buffet tables. Veggie fritters and this mushroom curry dish was really good. I think they switch up the items frequently.

    (4)
  • Nya A.

First, it took an hour for us to be served. Very slow service here. Second, the price is high and the amount they serve is so little. Each naan bread was $3.95 or higher. I am use to ordering a basket of naan bread, sometimes variety is an option, but at this location it is not available. Third, the waiter took awhile to refill our drinks with water and when he did he spilled water on my step-son. Did not even apologize. We were not impressed with the food or the service.

For someone who hasn't eaten Indian food in MANY years, the lunch buffet was perfect! The buffet wasn't big and only offered maybe 5 or 6 options to try. This was great since I could try a little of everything, see what I liked and could go back for more! The food was excellent and I loved everything I tried. I am looking forward to going back again soon!

  • Holly H.

I've been here twice, and have been trying to make my way back again for the buffet! The first time I was there for dinner and got a yellow lentil thing (I'd never be able to tell you what it's called) and it was really delicious. It was very filling so I took the rest home and it was just as delicious the next day. Perfect to warm you up on a cold day, plus even better with naan! The second time I was here a friend and I came for the buffet. We left overstuffed but very happy. There were samosas in the buffet, which were delicious.

Good quality but definitely not child friendly ( portion sizes, prices, and spiciness despite requesting most mild level). Not Cambridge but good enough for Waltham. Too bad central square was not easier to get to from here. Better value and more accommodating. Portions could have been more meat and shrimp and less sauce

Yelp, you've kind of let me down on this one. I saw some great reviews and figured that I'd go ahead and check this out for myself, with the fiancee for some lunch earlier today. We arrived for a pretty busy restaurant and sat down near the front in their first of two main rooms. Each features around 10-12 tables and is modestly decorated; looks a bit worn down in some areas but all in all, it's just your average looking restaurant with nothing special in it. Our waiter arrived and asked us if we wanted drinks, poured us some water and we headed for the buffet. Upon arriving I had to try my best to mask some of my disappointment. There wasn't too much to it, and it featured a total of eight different dishes, two of which were rice and palak paneer. There was also a mixed vegetable curry, chicken tandoori, mint chicken and a couple more. Nothing too exciting and no butter chicken or chicken tiki masala. They also had a few samosas and some Kheer. That's pretty much it. I tried a bit of everything and mopped up some of the sauces with some naan bread, but all in all, I found most of it to be bland. No standout flavors here, just a lot of blandness. Everything was lukewarm at best and I never went back for seconds. Nothing exceeded expectations, and I'd be hard pressed to return. My wife-to-be agreed. It's kind of a shame considering that they are in Waltham's South Side, on Moody Street which is a great location with plenty of street and lot parking and within walking distance for us. Oh and service was slow. Very, very slow and inattentive, especially considering that we do most of their work when ordering from the buffet. 20 minutes for my check? Really?

Poor food overall, had the tikka masala which was watery, saag paneer (not what I originally ordered) which had no taste, and rice which was not washed. I suggest looking elsewhere for indian food.

Went here with a friend for lunch and had their buffet lunch. Decent selections, and the taste was not bad. I think it was $9.95 per person for the buffet lunch, which is really good. Service was not bad, ambiance is nothing great but not bad. I would totally come here again for lunch.

  • Dandan Z.

I loved the saag paneer, I've also tried it with chicken. Very delicious. Staff is always very friendly and helpful. Hands down my favorite Indian food restaurant locally. The samosas are also great, and chicken tikka masala is creamy and tender here. A cozy date spot as well, my boyfriend and I come here often.

Excellent lunch buffet. Excellent for vegetarians. They offer a lunch buffet 7 days/week. Service is always good and the food is always very good. I am really happy to have this place close by.Wish they delivered!

Worst food I have ever eaten. Bland and watery chicken tikka masala. Saag paneer that wasn't cooked through- plus I ordered shahi paneer, so why I had to put up with banal and raw taste of saag paneer is beyond me. Frozen food from Patel brothers down the road would be better use of your money.

I have dined at many Indian restaurants before, but this is by far the cream of the crop. I went to Little India for the lunch buffet yesterday and was very impressed. The restaurant itself was beautiful and very clean, and spread of food was incredible. The appetizers included green salad and vegetable pakoras. For lunch dishes, there were Baingan Bharta, Mint Chicken, Dal Makhani, Saag Panir, Chicken Makhani, and of course rice and naan. I have never seen this many different dishes served at a Indian lunch buffet and I love that they served a perfect combination of meat and vegetarian meals. The eggplant in the Baingan Bharta dish was cooked to perfection. It was mashed, but not to the point that makes it hard to believe it is actually eggplant (as is the case at many other Indian restaurants serving this dish). The Chicken Makhani is a newer dish and absolutely fantastic! The boneless chicken is so tender that it literally melts in your mouth and it is served in a creamy tomato sauce with rich flavors and spices. This dish is comparable to the Chicken Tikka Masala, but provides a nice change to the staple Indian dish. I was excited to see that there was raita at the buffet as well. This is yogurt and cucumbers with mint (the Indian Tzatkiki if you will, but much thinner in consistency), and is typically a side order that comes with biryani dishes or any other dish which may be a little spicy as it helps to cool down your mouth. It was the perfect compliment to the meal and I have not seen this served at many other Indian buffets I have been to. Finally, the dessert they had, Kheer, which is rice pudding, was absolutely phenomenal. It provided me with just enough sweetness that I was craving at the end of my meal. I cannot believe that it only costs $9.95 per person for this lunch buffet. It is well worth every penny and more for this dining experience. Little India does not disappoint!

  • Skye G.

5 Stars for the rice pudding, Kheer! I have always been a dessert person and tend to ask for the dessert menu before ordering my meal but when I am out for Indian I always get the Kheer and don't need to see the menu since this has always been my favorite. For $3.95 I got a whole bowl of the yummiest rice pudding! A whole bowl! Not a little dessert cup with a few bites to taste but really a whole bowl. Sweet with almonds and topped with ground pistachio it ended my meal on a high note. Mr. G is a Vindaloo guy and he wasn't disappointed. I ordered the Lamb Curry and also was very happy. The portion seemed to appear small but I think it was because I was hungry. The large chunks of lamb were tender and cooked just right. The amount was perfect and so was the Garlic Nan. It was soft, warm and a bit on the doughy side which I just love. The service was also very good. Our waiter was pleasant and our meal was brought out quickly and served hot. They have a lunch buffet so I will need to come back to try a little of this and a little of that.

I would not recommended this place. Overpriced, disappointing food. I visited previously about a year ago and remembered thinking it wasn't anything special but was ok. However on this trip I found it to be really pretty bad. I ordered my go-to chicken tikka masala and got a pretty unrecognizable version. It was a pale yellow color that tasted of citrus and the chicken just did not taste right. The naan seemed both undercooked/chewy and sour. And even the rice had a weird plastic after taste. My girlfriend had a chicken curry the person who answered the phone recommended and she barely touched it. She said it lacked flavor and spice and had a strange overly sweet flavor. She said it was clear they had added the chicken to the curry at the last minute because the chicken had no flavor at all. I definitely won't be back. Still searching for good Indian food in the Boston Metro-West.....

    (1)
  • Ariel Z.

Their lunch buffet is decent, but does not have a ton of options. I am a fan of the squash dish they sometimes serve, but really dislike how everything has a pool of grease at the bottom of the vat...not very appetizing. I think the best on Moody Street, but still nowhere near as good as they could be.

    (3)
  • Jim D.

The food is fantastic. They serve the best chicken tikka masala I've had in the Boston area. And the vegetarian entrees are particularly good (Bhindi Masala and Baighan Bharta for example). Even the rice and breads are super versus other local indian restaurants. The ambiance is good but not great. Good service and waitstaff for an ethnic restaurant by not find dining. Also the beer and wine selection is more limited than I expected.

Before 2011, I never really enjoyed Indian food. As one of those guys that despises spicy food and thinks a drop of Sriracha sauce is a drop from hell, the heavily spiced meats and curries killed me. I really only liked going for nan. However, when I moved to London for a year back in 2011, the Indian food there blew my mind. I gradually started to like a little spice in my food and became a fan of Indian. That being said, Little India is a nice little spot if you're craving an Indian fix. I went for dinner with my family and we enjoyed a few individual dishes which were pretty sizable. Prices were more towards the expensive side, but that's to be expected for a higher end Indian place like this. I've heard great things about the lunch buffet (who doesn't like unlimited food), so i'll have to head back and try that sometimes. Overall, great little place for some Indian food.

  • Beverly S.

My husband and I have been eating at Little India for many years. It used to be my favorite restaurant for Indian food. Not any more. I don't know if they have a different chef or that their quality of food isn't what it had been in the past. It's sad to see one of my favorite restaurants going downhill. In fact, my meal was so bad I'm not sure if I'll return. Very disappointing!

  • Bill B.

I've been going to this place for years. Not often, maybe 3 or 4 times a year, but the food was always acceptable if not great... 3 star range. But my last visit was a disaster. I ordered the shrimp vindaloo extra hot. What I got -- literally -- was a thick tomato paste with almost no flavor at all! It wasn't even spicy, let alone hot. I couldn't believe it. My wife, who can't stand hot food, tried it and agreed that it was tasteless. A normal vindaloo would send her running out the door screaming. The rest of the meal? Not much better. The papadums were stale. The cauliflower bread thing tasted like some weird plastic. Only the rice seemed well cooked. Service has always been lackadaisical to say the least, so I didn't bother trying to get this fixed. It would have taken an hour. I did tell the waiter at check time that this was flat out the worst vindaloo I've ever had--no heat, no flavor. He said "I'll tell the chef." I ate the shrimp because I was hungry but nothing else. Still got charged, which is fair enough, I guess, but I got the distinct impression that no one cares about the food, the customers, or anything else as far as I can tell. Certainly no effort was made to make things right or even to figure out why I thought it was so bad. I'm glad I paid the full check because it's very easy now to never go back. Avoid at all costs. It's too bad that there isn't a standout Indian restaurant in Waltham these days.

I was concerned when I saw the mixed reviews that Little India had received recently on Yelp. I decided to try this restaurant and I am glad that I did. I ordered take-out. I was only in the restaurant for a brief time but the atmosphere was intimate and quiet. The waitstaff were personable and attentive. Sampled tonight the chicken pakora, chilli chicken and the chicken vindaloo. All were well prepared. The vindaloo was tasty but not excessively hot. Nan bread was excellent. I will be back.

So I just moved to Waltham 2 months ago, and on my first drive down Moody I knew that there were Indian food turf wars. Let this be my attempt to dis-spell a bit of the confusion for non-townies. Bombay Mahal: No. Too expensive for the weakest food of the 3 places on Moody. Don't bother. New Mother India: FLARE! All kinds of stuff to look at. Whoop de doo! The food is great... but you pay a pretty penny to look at all the elephant statues and crazy linens. Little India is right up my ally. $10 lunch buffet? You had me at hello! The samosas will make you so happy. Love the garlic naan. The Lamb Vindaloo was probably the best I've ever had. The Saag Paneer is my favorite thing on the menu... I feel like I could eat it for days.... And I can AFFORD this place! yay! I don't do Indian food a whole lot, but I like my trip to be about the food and not the flare. Perhaps that's just a preference. New Mother India is great as well, and I recommend trying them as well if you're in the mood... but I prefer Little India's humble little atmosphere and cheap lunch buffet. Bombay Mahal is just a street sign that I blow by on my way to work....

This is by far the best of the Indian lunch buffets on Moody. Service is surprisingly good - my plate is cleared typically within about 10 seconds of getting up for seconds/thirds/fourths. Water is never allowed to go below half full. Check is taken care of immediately (and I've made them do awful things with checks - like split it onto 10 credit cards). My absolute favorite thing here is the vegi fritters (I have no idea what they're actually called). The nan is also really good. Word of warning: They catered lunch where I used to work once and the nan was significantly worse. Some were noticeably burnt, the rest just wasn't good. The theory was that they buy nan elsewhere when catering, but make it themselves when you eat in the restaurant. Also - for those seeking chicken tikki massala - they only have it in teh buffet on Friday and some other day. Forget which. Damn it - now I'm craving Indian. Nom nom nom.

THIS PLACE IS THE BEST!!! Since discovering Indian cuisine in 2005, I've had close to 300,000 Indian meals and the lunch buffet always ranks at the top in my experience. I'm a vegetarian so I don't know if meat eaters have the same experience. The food here always feels a little cleaner, fresher, and more sattvic.

Maybe I've just been brainwashed by my Brandeis friends, but this is the best Indian in Waltham. Every time I've ventured to Jewel or New Mother I've always been disappointed. We usually do the buffet or takeout. I love the buffet for trying new things, otherwise I'd be happy with chicken tikka masala and saag panir.

Nom nom nom... naan (hahaha). I went here with my dad after only just discovering it despite having lived on Moody St for a few months now but hey, its small and easy to overlook. The food was great - I had the chicken tikka marsala (I know, I'm boring) at around $14 and the coconut soup. The soup was delicious but a bit too sweet for me. It was def prepared well though, just not my cup of tea. My entree was AWESOME and the garlic naan was some of the best I've had. The prices weren't terrible - our bill came to approx. $68 for 2 soups, 2 entrees, and a total of 6 glasses of wine (don't judge us). It was also pretty busy for a Tuesday night which means good things. Only complaints: Service was so-so. Everyone was extraordinarily friendly but we literally had to flag our waiter down every time we needed something. They obviously were slightly understaffed. We ended up just raising our glasses in the air until one of them would finally come over, and at the end of the meal just holding up a credit card to get their attention. But this was a small price to pay for the delicious meal. Only other problem I had was that their wine rack is in the foyer, which gets quite cold. this resulted in my pinot noir being much colder than it should have been. I don't particularly mind, but it would be nice if it was served at the correct temp for a red wine. I will def. be back.

Very disappointing experience here on Wednesday May 18, 2011. Arrived at around 1:30 PM for the buffet lunch. The staff were sitting reading newspapers when I arrived so I might have expected a problem. And there was a problem. After putting food on my plate at the buffet I returned to my table to discover most of the food was only mildly warm. Nothing was hot. I ate what I had but didn't want more because it was all basically almost cold. I noticed that almost all of the burners under the buffet dishes had been turned off. Or had burnt out. And the staff had not lit them up again. Too busy reading newspapers, I suppose. I mentioned the problem to the staff. The charge for my almost-cold plate of food? Full price.

Consistently good food. As a vegetarian, I highly recommend the saag paneer, which never disappoints. The regular naan is wonderful, though the savory naans tend to be a bit skimpy on the savory part. If you're in the mood for Indian food in Waltham, this is your place.

We met our younger daughter and her husband for dinner last night, and our experience this time around wasn't the greatest. The waiter repeated our order, but he kept adding an extra order of Naan, and it took us 3 min to explain we wanted JUST whole wheat naan and potato naan. The place wasn't too busy, but service wasn't so good. The samosas came out after 15 minutes. We waited and waited and did I say waited for the soup but couldn't catch the eye of our waiter (ha! appropriate title: WAITER). The waiter came by and we told him to cancel the soup order and he didn't know what we were saying. We asked to have another waiter who could understand English come by, and after 5 minutes, another waiter brought ONE of the soups. When someone actually understood what we were saying, we canceled the other soup. The meal was great (lamb curry, lamb with mango sauce, chicken biryani, and sag paneer) as usual, but the service left a bad taste in our mouths. I think we'll try someplace else the next time we want to satisfy our craving for Indian food. There are plenty of other good places on Moody Street.

  • Sara H.

Meh indeed. Granted I did the take out thing, but I was not impressed. It wasn't busy when I picked up my food, yet it was rather cold and subpar at best. Anyway, look elsewhere for good Indian food.

Small and cute with great menu, prices and service!! I will definitely be back! Lost one star because the competition on Moody St is tough and there are places with a bit more selection (for both food and beer). But this is the best value for Indian food in the neighborhood in my opinion :)

l went here with my father this weekend and we didn't have a very good experience. I've been to India and I consider myself pretty well educated on the cuisine. This food was really bland - which is something Indian food should NEVER be. All dishes come mild which for some people is good, but not for people that expect real Indian food. I ordered Shahi Paneer and my dad had the tomato saar soup and an order of tikona. All were bland and basically just not very good. The service was friendly and the mango lassi i got was enjoyable. Otherwise, I recommend Kashish in Belmont or Punjabs for authentic Indian food.

The minuses : The Chicken Tikka Masala was odd - I've never seen it so yellow and mildly flavorful and I've had it in probably 40 different places around the world (Scotland and Portugal were two fo the best, bizarrely enough). My son didn't finish his mago lassi (which is a first) and my daughter barely touched her strawberry lassi. I also didn't appreciate having to convince the waiter that we DIDN'T all want the lunch buffet (although they do a half price buffet for kids, which is nice). It irks me when I get the sense that the wait staff wants everyone to do the buffet so they don't have to bother waiting on you much. My lunch came to over $70 for me and my two kids (granted, I also had a beer and we got Tandoori chicken, Peshwary naan and Papadum wafers ... but it did seem like a bit much). When I opened the leftovers at home I discovered that they had combined the Tikka Masala with the basmati rice ... oooh that bugs me! Is it really that hard to give me an extra container. The pluses: I had the buffet and it had some interesting vegetarian choices - chili paneer cheese was a nice find. Aside from the initial buffet peer pressure, the service was very attentive and friendly. The Tandoori chicken wasn't incredibly flavorful (but then again, I never think it's as intense as it looks) but was otherwise very well prepared, perfectly moist and falling off the bone. So a mixed experience and certainly not one that rivals the sensational Punjab Palace in Allston or the superb Punjab in Arlington.

I should preface this review by saying the only good Indian food comes from my mommie's kitchen. Being the only person of Indian ethnicity left in the office at 6 PM (grrrr), I was consulted as to which is the best Indian restaurant on DiningIn (OMG such pressure!). Since none of my old standbys (Mela, Kashmir, and Bombay Club) deliver to the barren wasteland of Newton Corner, I turned to Yelp. This restaurant received the best reviews of the three options, so I went with it. While I'm not yet through my entire meal, I'm marveling at the fact that my entree (aloo matar paneer) is completely tasteless. HOW ON EARTH DO YOU MAKE TASTELESS INDIAN FOOD??? (Mind you, I am absolutely starving...and it STILL doesn't taste good!) To be fair, the samosas are tasty as are the chutneys and my tandoori roti wasn't half-bad either. But all-in-all, I probably won't order from here again.

Growing up my mom said, when you are famished everything tastes good. Well, at little India, it aint true! Two famished souls, walked into this dimly lit restaurant with big appetites and huge expectations (thanks to the yelp reviews). And disappointed we were. They did not seat us for a good 10 mintues, even when it wasn't busy. When we asked to be seated, the frazzled waiter didnt pay any heed. Another friendly one came and seated us. The menu was ordinary "Americanized" (uninspiring) Indian food. We picked veggie platter for appetizers and it left us dissatisfied. Paneer-do-piaza and Malai Kofta for main course with Butter Naan and Chapati. The Paneer was hard and lacked freshness. We had to search through the curry to find our Koftas. Hungry no more, happy no more :( PS - The menu had too many words misspelt.

2.5 stars. We were not super impressed with the lunch buffet here. The selection was pretty decent (pakora, naan, chicken tikka masala, tandoori chicken, gobi matar, saag paneer, rice, and a couple of other things). However, neither my boyfriend nor I thought the food was that impressive. Things were cold at times, and the naan basket was empty for a good portion of our meal, although near the end some steaming hot naan arrived. The food didn't taste too great either - the saag paneer and tandoori chicken were solid, but the chicken tikka masala was really bland and watery and the pakora and naan were fairly mediocre. Nothing I tried was terribly spicy, which might be nice for someone who's not really a big fan of Indian food, but just came across as flavorless to us. My boyfriend managed to grab one spicy dish (it must have been the one beef dish I skipped) but other than that everything seemed under-spiced. It's really rare for my boyfriend to meet an unlimited quantity of food he doesn't like (seriously, the boy likes Old Country Buffet) but he agreed with me that this place was pretty "meh' and not worth coming back to. The price was pretty good ($10 a person including tax), but not such a great deal as to make up for the mediocre food quality. Service was pretty abmismal as well. Not only were they slow about water refills, but we had to hassle them to get our bill, to pay the bill, etc.

I have loved this Indian restaurant for the past 15 years, everything they do is great. The chicken tikka masala is so creamy and delicious. The chutneys are great, the location is wonderful. Their new dish, chili cheese is excellent. It's pieces of paneer with some other veggies, and chilis. I had my last meal here for a while, as I am relocating, and wanted to come here one last time for ol' times sake. The prices aren't as steep as some reviewers say. The quality of the food is excellent, and I have been a loyal customer for many years now. Best of luck to Little India in the future!

Round do (2) of my whirlwind tour of Moody street's Indian food. At our blistering pace of once every other week, I went with a couple friends to try out the Little India buffet (again, post-India). It was really good. Very solid Indian food that seems like its maintained more of its native taste than other places that have been diluted by America's unholy love of butter, salt, and heavy cream. All the food was very tasty, they had my favorites, palak paneer and chicken tikka masala, which, let's be real, swayed my opinion. So far, Little India is the best restaurant of its kind in Waltham and I don't foresee it being beaten out for that title.

Went for dinner and had the Lamb Keema Mattar, Chicken Tikka Masala, and Garlic Nan. Everthing was good, the portions were decent, and staff was friendly and helpful. Note: This is not a fast-food restaurant. It took a long time to get our food. (I consider that a good thing).

My favorite Indian lunch buffet in Waltham. There are buffets with more options, but what they have is always good and the naan is fantastic. I wish they were better about replenishing the naan. I'd imagine there dinner is good but I'm strictly a lunch buffet guy.

We went here on a Sunday to try their buffet, it was only my third time going for Indian so got to try some new dishes. I can't remember what anything was called but I tried a bit of everything and it was all good. One thing I do know is that their samosas are excellent.

This is my favorite Indian place in Waltham (granted I've only been to two). Their selection isn't huge, but whatever is offered is always so so good that I wish I had a bigger appetite to make the 9 dollar buffet really worth it. Don't get me wrong, $9 is a great price, I just wish I could eat more. I've been to the Indian place across the street from Little India too, but in my opinion, the sauces are a little too runny, also, the place feels a little sterile to me, not sure why. Little India is small and quiet. Don't be talking about your dirty laundry in there because people in the next room will hear.

it's a bizarre indian spot on moody that caters mostly to elderly white people, and run by mexicans. after getting over that little fact, i enjoyed the food enough to recommend it to others. it's a bit on the pricy side and the portions are small, but the taste is pretty amazing. i'd suggest the saag paneer and the vegetarian platter.

  • Rob C.

i don't even like Indian food, so you should probably not bother to read further. Little India is a small place that seems to specialize in buffets at lunch. i only say this because after seating us in a somewhat forlorn back room, there was no sign of menus, or for that matter, waitstaff, until the water needed refilling. i can't vouch for the rest of it, but the naan and the rice were okay. It seemed pretty busy, with folks who were plainly of Indian descent, natch, on an early Sunday afternoon, so perhaps that's an endorsement of sorts.

When you can impress your New York City friends with an outstanding Indian restaurant you know it's good! Thanks fellow Yelpers! If you always order Curry or Tanduri when you dine out for Indian food, break out of the rut and try Biryani. Now I don't know how you pronounce it, but I'll tell you that you can't go wrong with saffron rice, raisins & cashews, coconut garnish and plentiful shrimp (or chicken, lamb or veggies). The curry dishes were outstanding and the appetizers were perfectly fried and tasty. The tikona-think samosa with ground lamb re-heated nicely the next day. Naan is always good and was totally fresh. Take a walk on the spicy side and try the gobi paratha. Between the prices and the amazing food we will be back. In fact, my husband and I can't stop talking about it. As for our NYC friends they'll be back too :)

Wait staff doesn't replenish food very quickly. Food was lukewarm. I had to ask for more chicken curry and bread. The guy came out with BBQ chicken slices and added it to the sauce. Absolutely terrible food, no real flavor. It tasted like it was watered down something I wouldn't expect for a meal of this price. With the other two Indian places across the street closed for renovations this month, they should have taken advantage of this and provided exceptional food to win customers over. Instead they provided average tasteless food. Very disappointing.

The best Indian restaurant on Moody Street turns out to be the cheapest and least appreciated. Who knew? As a Brandeis student, you go through a few distinct stages of Indian food appreciation. If you're like me and from a backwoods town without a tandoor to speak of, you start out thinking any Indian is incredible. You spend a while only going to New Mother India because that's what everybody says is the best. At some point one of your cool friends hauls you down the street to Bombay Mahal, and you figure that must be the last word. If you're unlucky, you might do some time at Jewel of India. Finally, though, you discover Little India tucked away quietly next to Erwan of Siam and you wonder what you were doing eating at those other restaurants all that time. My personal favorites are the malai kofta, navratan korma and vegetable jalfrezi, but I don't remember ever ordering anything I wasn't happy with. Maybe Little India isn't perfect. The saag is usually spectacular, but can be inconsistent. Some of my coworkers prefer the lunch buffet at Bombay Mahal because it usually has more meat dishes. But when I'm in the mood for curry, this place is always my first choice.

    I. Am. A. Robot. I. Will. Be. Your. Waiter. Let. Me. Bring. You. Mediocre. Indian. Food. Our experience at Little India was underwhelming. We arrived at a little after 7 PM, and stood awkwardly in the foyer area. No one came over to talk to us. We just stood. Awkwardly. And waited for a table. Eventually we sat. The food was only ok - we got chicken tikka masala, chapati, and lamb in mango puree. The chicken was very tender, and the sauce not so good. The lamb dish was good. Just good. The people next to us waited close to an hour to get their food. The service was odd - rushed yet slow. So. Little India isn't so great. I wouldn't recommend it. Try some other venue on Moody Street for kicks and giggles.

My husband and I go to Little India for dinner once or twice a month and it is our favorite Indian restaurant in the Waltham area. The food is delicious and we are never disappointed. The chicken tikka masala is particularly good and we also love the saag paneer and various naans. The ambiance is cozy and the service is very good. We love it!

Lunch Buffets are 5 star. They typically have at least 3 vegetarian entrees too. Often items on their buffet are not offered on their menu too which is a nice change. I have been going here for over 10 years now and I have consistently enjoyed their lunch buffet. I gave 4 overall since dinner experiences have varied.... Sometimes good, sometimes not so good.

Best Indian on Moody Street Of all the Indian food on Moody-Little India is the best. My quest for Indian up and down the ghetto street is kinda like Goldilocks journey in the bears cottage.......each time I tried somewhere there would be one or two things I would change about it...than I tested Little India....JUST RIGHT. The best dishes IMHO are the malai kofta, jalfrezi and navratan korma. I was completely satisfied with the spice and price level. Service was on point. Everything was perfect......Cara tested, three bears approved. (Now get out of their bed Goldilocks-skank)

I love this place! The chicken tikka masala is amazing and very different from the normal. The only thing is that it is pretty expensive for Indian food that is why I only gave it 3 stars. One order of naan ($3.95) and chicken tikka masala ($14.95) is close to $19.00 for one person!! I tried ordering here one day at lunch to try to save a little money but it still cost the same price as dinner for some reason?!? I do like the lunch buffet and you can do a little better with that. If the prices were lower, I would be here at least once a week. Since they are so high, I only get to eat here a few times a year but I thoroughly enjoy it when I do go!

I really enjoy this place alot. I have gone there several times for the buffet and the dinner. I love the taste and freshness of the food. Your better then average Indian food restaurant. The only thing I have to say is that I WISH the staff was a bit more friendly. I try to say thank you and act happy and such to show them I appreciate there place, but they seem to to be not interested. Other then that, the food was hott, fast, and they have alot to choose from. All the classic courses and breads. I defiantly recommended it since there is like 6 other ones to choose from. This one has the better deal and prices that I know of as of now.

This was my favorite Indian restaurant through out college. Good, inexpensive food, with a really nice bunch of chefs and waitstaff. They always loved to see more Indians eating their food and getting feedback. Modestly sized, and was always full but rarely ever had a wait time. Definitely recommend it if you are ever in Waltham (which is unlikely) unless you go to Brandeis or Bentley. They have an excellent lunch buffet as well.

Best Indian food in Waltham, which is a tall order. The atmosphere in Little India is so much better than the other places (though the tacky "fountain" at Bad Mother India gives them a run for their money). The buffet is generous and elegantly presented. The waitstaff are very, very nice.

This is by far my favorite Indian restaurant in the greater Boston area. It's well-decorated and cozy without ever making you feel piled in on top of other diners. The waiters are very wise in how they seat diners, but even when I've been there when the restaurant's full, it still feels cozy and pleasant. They have actual candles in sconces on the wall that they light in the evening that really help to set the tone. They have an extensive vegetarian section on their menu, both in appetizers and entrees. The complementary crackers and sauces (I don't know what the Indian word is for it) are always served promptly and are delicious. The naan is wonderful and plentiful. You can almost make a meal simply from an order of naan. Once it was a bit overdone, but that is far from the norm. My favorite entree is definitely the malai kofta aka "vegetable balls." Just the right blend of spicy and sweet for my taste. Top it all off with perfectly blended mango lassis, and you have my favorite meal out. Further the waitstaff are always friendly, smiling, and attentive without being intrusive. The prices are reasonable. You can get a full meal of appetizer, entree, naan, and drink for around $20 a person.

My wife and I have been happy diners at Little India for a while, but on our most recent visit the chicken in the Tikka Masala was badly spoiled, and we tossed it out after smelling it. The other dish we got -- Malai Kofta -- was essentially giant tater tots, but drowning in the best creamy-hot-tomato-y sauce I've ever had. However, that doesn't make up for spoiled meat. I doubt we'll go back, and if we do, I'm sure we'll stick to vegetarian dishes. Those, anyway, are both delicious and safe.

Moody Street is a mecca for Indian food, but in my humble opinion, Little India is the best. I go here with a group of girlfriends about once a month (or whenever one of us has a craving!). Their buffet is fantastic -- great variety, flavorful, fresh, and reasonably priced. The staff is also very friendly and really hustles to refill the buffet and clear plates. Looks like there are some mixed reviews for their dinners, but you can't go wrong with the buffet!

Boston does indian food well. Spicy, savory, and freshly made naan. This place has about a $10 buffet that a big group of us often go to. I sometimes call ahead when we have more than 6 or 7. But they always seat us if not instantly within 10 mins. They always have samosas and the best kheer (rice pudding) in town. Naan often runs out. Not the best naan in town, but that's ok, they make up for it with the other items.

NOTE: Yelp doesn't provide any measurable method for ratings, so I feel as though the system is totally arbitrary & irrelevant. Therefore, all my reviews past and future will all be 5 stars. For the best accuracy, my opinion is written in my detailed reviews. based on the shining reviews of little india, we decided to go here and whet our indian food-loving taste buds on this epicurean wonder. we arrived at about 5:30 on saturday, fearing an enormous wait based on the other reviews, but to our surprise and delight there were only a handful of tables that were taken (three to be exact, all in the main dining room - two taken up by couples, one by a man waiting for more companions). we were seated, water and menus given. As the water was poured, i asked for a coffee, she a tea. yes, black please, no milk in either. it was roughly 5:35 at this point. we perused the menu, not a bad selection, but we hastily made our decision, closed the menus to be universally understood that we were ready to order. a little after 6 the same waiter who gave us water reappeared and took our order: she likes it HOT (as the description said in the menu) so she has the chicken vindaloo; i get the chicken tikka masala at her suggestion. again he asks us what we wanted to drink. at this time, some other people arrive, some even had their take out. we were able to comment on the atmosphere of the restaurant, the decadent but simple lighting, the soft colors of the walls. very nice, not overbearing and bizarre art adornments. very comforting, but not exciting enough to not notice that our coffee arrived at 6:30. by 6:45 our food arrives. her vindaloo was spicy in taste but not in heat. it was rather bland, the flavor of curry just a slight note. as for my tikka masala, it was orange, which i'm later told was supposed to be more of a reddish color. however it was okay. also a tad bland, not a celestial blend of spices or seasoning whatsoever. the nan was good, hot as expected, and decent for dipping since my masala had more sauce than chicken. a single bowl of rice was given between us, not much more than probably 8 oz., definitely less than we needed so the nan was a must to compensate. the display of the food with their individual dishware was beautiful. very nice touch. however, it seems like they were trying to compensate for the lack of service. staying at this place for almost two hours seemed like quite a chore for lackluster service and adequate food. all plates were the 10-15 dollar range, but definitely not worth that much. about 2-3 dollars too expensive. neither of us could understand the draw of this place, other than the atmosphere, which was sublime. in fact, we were wondering what mother india was looking like. atmosphere: 4 service: 2 food: 2 display: 4 timeliness: 1 total: 2.6

Simply very good buffet. Good somosa's, saag chana is tasty. Naan is generally good but sometimes they have trouble keeping up with the demand. If you're looking for Chicken Tikki Masala on the buffet, you have to go during the week. Call ahead and they will tell you which day of the week that will be on the buffet. Reasonably priced.

I have been looking for a good Indian place near work for a while without much success. The few that I ventured into were passable, but nothing I seek out again. A couple actually had beef dishes. WTF? When I go looking for ethnic restaurants I tend to favor the authentic, so beef at an Indian restaurant always lowers my esteem of the establishment. It was right next door to the middle eastern place that serves pork I think. (If you want to hear my more politcally incorrect quips on this matter, message me because I am not writing them here.) Anyway, finally my coworker brought me to this place for the lunch buffet, and I think I found my Indian lunch place. First, the price for the buffet was a very reasonable $8. Secondly, a very nice trait about their buffet is that it was mostly vegetarian, so I felt a bit better about having a heaping portion of everything. The saag was served with chickpeas rather than the typical cheese (my favorite thing to do with saag is to smear it on naan and eat it like a sandwich.) Which is not to say that this food was light, it was merely less fatal. The samosas were crispy and flavorful, the vegetable balls had a pleasing texture and nice amount of spice, and the chicken was tender with a very tasty korma sauce. Like most Indian restaurants the food was spicy, but not too aggressively so, thus a good place for those with a sensitive palate. The parking situation is kind of a pain in the ass, but that is a trade off I am willing to make.

The lamb saag and lamb masala were really delicious. This is truly one of the best for Indian food compared to others in and around the city and the prices are reasonable. Everything was cooked to perfection. We waited quite a while for our food and service was a little slow but well worth the wait.

Simply the best Indian food in Waltham. The other Indian restaurants are in 3d place--all of them. Recently added goat meat stew to the menu--delicious. If it's Indian cuisine you want in the western burbs, this is the place to go.

Best Indian restaurant on Moody Street. Skip New Mother India and their over-priced menu, and go to Little India. Better yet, go there during their lunch buffet. It's busy enough that the food at the buffet stays fresh and piping hot. The people who work there are very kind. Once a friend asked what scent the incense was that they were burning, and he returned with 5 sticks for her to take home.

How can you go wrong with lunch buffet for that price ($8)? It has a little smaller selection, but they have the standard stuff and food was good. The complaints may be food runs out fast (need to wait for refill) and a little longer wait 10-15 minutes.... Hey, the other Indian restaurant has plenty of tables... but do want to go to an empty restaurant? Be there early!

Ahhh, the Little India on Moody Street. Brings back such fond memories. My review might be a little biased since this was where I was introduced to Indian food 11 years ago. As usual dinner food is generally better than the buffet but given that I'm a buffet hound, this will be more about their buffet. Now that I've been to about 20 other indian restaurants over the years I can safely make a fair assessment of the buffet: Selectionwise it doesn't really offer as much as other larger places like Divas or Namaskars in Somerville. It's only one small table of things, 2 meat curries , 2 or 3 veggies, 1 tandoori, a desert, and some small condiment containers. But what they lack in variety, they make up for in taste. Overall the Little India provides a solid indian buffet. Not too spicy but not bland either. It's a small cozy place to get a decent Indian meal. Parking can be tough on Moody but if you want to chance it, you can park across the street in the Store 24 lot. Little India may not be my favorite these days but for those of you living in Waltham, it really is the best Indian joint on Moody Street. And how to do I know this? When I worked in Waltham for 3 years, I tried ALL of the indian places on Moody (Little India, Jewel of India, Mother of India, Bombay Mahal). It did cause me to gain 20 pounds those 3 years eating all that indian food, but it was worth the experience to be introduced to such a fantastic cuisine.

This is our go-to spot for Indian food on Moody St. these days. My boyfriend's coworker who used to be a chef or something claims it's the best. Me? I come for the malai kofta. Oh heeeelllls yes, chickpea balls in most delicious creamy sauce of all time.

Very good food.... a little better than Mother India down the street I think. I still think the food can use a bit more spices... some of the dishes are a bit too bland for my taste... I thought Indian food is supposed to make my stomach growl and my ass hurt?!... Without that the pain I dont feel the gain.

Little India of Waltham was my introduction to Indian food. We were on vacation earlier this summer and we went on a Saturday night. The place was extremely busy!! The food was very delicious!!! The portions were very good, and the price was just right - affordable for every man and woman. It was very much worth our wait. Everyone in our table ordered a different dish and we sampled all the different dishes ordered. All the dishes were very delicious!!! Bastami rice was served that was very aromatic and very delicious!!! The lamb, chicken and rice dishes were heavenly. I was stuffed!! I couldn't finish my meal. They played wonderful Indian music and the place itself was very nicely decorated with Indian art. We all left very satisfied and happy. The food was so good we asked the man behind the counter for recipes, we all had a good laugh. If I was rich I would travel to Waltham just to eat at this place. What a wonderful place. I hope it stays that way.

naaaaaan! oh warm, fresh yummy naan, how I love thee.

My family has been coming to Little India for more years than I care to think about (in the double digits). We've been to just about all the Indian restaurants on Moody Street, and none come close in ANY of the ways that make this restaurant great -- good food in reasonable-sized portions, nice ambience, attentive waitstaff, and a friendly, welcoming atmosphere. The chicken tikka masala is especially terrific, and even this spinach-hater likes the saag aloo. Our family is made up of some spicy-food-lovers and one no-spicy-food person, and the Little Indians have always gladly spiced our dishes to order. The buffet also has just the right number and variety of dishes (usually -- maybe always -- including tandoori chicken, samosas, and several vegetable dishes), and the staff keeps an eye out to refill any foods that are running low, so everything is fresh. I've been to Little India many, many times, and have introduced friends to the restaurant, and have never ever been disappointed.

Consistently good! We've been here several times. Food is always good, prices are reasonable. The owner is very friendly and actually enjoys talking with his customers. This is absolutely our go to place for Indian in Waltham.

They do not accept cash for delivery orders. This is absurd and causes me to not use their business! Too bad, because the food sounds like it is well-liked.

Meh indeed. Granted I did the take out thing, but I was not impressed. It wasn't busy when I picked up my food, yet it was rather cold and subpar at best. Anyway, look elsewhere for good Indian food.

l went here with my father this weekend and we didn't have a very good experience.

Small and cute with great menu, prices and service!! I will definitely be back! Lost one star because the competition on Moody St is tough and there are places with a bit more selection (for both food and beer). But this is the best value for Indian food in the neighborhood in my opinion :)

  • Mindy S.

Food is bad. Weird items in the buffet. Not that much good stuff. They dont replenish food in the line. Don't go here

My favorite Indian lunch buffet in Waltham. There are buffets with more options, but what they have is always good and the naan is fantastic. I wish they were better about replenishing the naan. I'd imagine there dinner is good but I'm strictly a lunch buffet guy.

(Now get out of their bed Goldilocks-skank)

my favorite indian resnt on moody street!!! Good food in a "little" cozy place as the name implies. The lunch buffet is always worth it...!!! Great Tandoori Chicken, Saag Paneer, Malai Kofta and Veg Korma!! small selection of beer -wine.

  • Freelunch L.

  • Arnab M.

  • Bevin C.

Best Indian food in Waltham, which is a tall order. The atmosphere in Little India is so much better than the other places (though the tacky "fountain" at Bad Mother India gives them a run for their money). The buffet is generous and elegantly presented. The waitstaff are very, very nice.

  • Ryan L.

This little place used to be the best Indian restaurant West of Boston, but it needs a make-over. It is starting to look tired and a bit shabby. The food is still good, but the decor is lacking.
