The two stars are for the service - our server was great. Food was mediocre - nothing spectacular. I was a little surprised by the 19% automatically added gratuity. We were a party of 4 and this is the first time I have seen that, especially when the restaurant was only half full. I hope our being visible minorities had nothing to do with it.

Pan seared Jamaican jerk, pork tendering in a mango mojo sauce served over sweet potato, bacon and pablano hash, with flash sauted spinach. Nicole clearly is passionate about the food and restaurant in which her husband is part owner in this well run family Italian restaurant.

I've gone to Biagio a bunch of times since moving to the area over a year ago. Not once have I ever been disappointed by the service or the food. Here is a quick run-down of my recommendations. Appetizers: Arancini Eggplant Bracciolettini - MMM! Calamari Fritti Bruschetta - if you're feeling extra carby Insalate: Pear & Gorgonzola Salad - to die for Caesar Pasta: Tortellini Panna e Prosciutto - OMG! Surprise hit. Fig and Mascarpone Cheese Ravioli Risotto w/ Mushrooms and Peas Secondi: Grilled Salmon - always super fresh and tasty Veal Osso Bucco Chicken Saltimbocca Dessert: Trio of Cannolis Tiramisu Bread Pudding Can you tell I've frequented this place? :)

The main bar at Biagio's (first floor) is one of my favorite hang outs for a nice night of dinner and drinks. The bar is huge with granite/marble counters, plush padded high seats, plenty of space and purse hooks. The bar also offers one large TV in the center of the bar so that all patrons can see it. Biagio's makes a great cocktail, has a wonderful list of beers and has an extensive wine list. I would say that the prices are very reasonable for bottles and glasses of wine. Some of my favorite items off of the menu in terms of food are: Arancini (very good here!), Mini Beef Wellington, Toasted Ravioli's, Margherita Pizza, Chicken Parmesan and Pollo Saltimbocca (a little salty for my taste but still good). The bar staff is excellent and very attentive, they are always moving around helping someone or chopping up fruit for the bar. Note: There is no veal at Biagio, which I find to be odd at an Italian restaurant. The bartender said they do have veal "sometimes" for specials, but not often.

Being new to the area, we made reservations for a birthday dinner to try it out. It was understandably quiet since it was a Monday night, but everything from our greeting when we walked in, the amazing service from our waiter and the great food (wild mushroom risotto and a seafood stew in a fra diavlo base) guarantees we'll be back. It was so nice to find a great date night spot that was within walking distance!

I had driven by this place dozens of times but never been in. Last week my girlfriend and I decided to stop in for dinner hoping to sit on the patio. When I called to ask for a reservation on their patio, they said it wasn't open. This struck me as odd since it was late April and had been in the 60's all day. Too bad though. We were seated in the main dining room, the decor was very nice and the place had a classy feel to it for the reasonable prices. The food was nothing special though. I had a chicken parm plate and it was nothing different than I've had at most Italian places. My girlfriend had the rizzoto which she was a little disappointed with, it wasn't as creamy as she had hoped. I would consider coming back here for the patio but not for their food, Fiorella's a is a much better bet and only a five minute drive away.

The food at the Biagio is very good, but I had a terrible experience on the patio the other night. The tables were strewn about, the whole place was messy looking, and the waitresses, two grown women, were acting like teenagers dying to get out of work early. It was really pathetic, especially for an otherwise wonderful restaurant.

I used to go here a lot...too bad it's not the same..it's really loud and the service was terrible..I just got home from eating there and my food was good but it took forever to order and even longer to pay the check....I think they must be understaffed. I thing Biaggio needs to be there cause the sons just don't cut the high expectation I used to have. Such a disappointment. Would much rather go to the coach in Wayland. Service is perfect and food is great.

Came here for dinner on a weeknight, so the restaurant wasn't too busy. The restaurant was spacious and had a nice ambiance and decor. Our table shared a plate of Calamari tossed in a sweet thai chili sauce. The calamari wasn't crispy but the flavors were good. I ordered the Fig, Mascarpone, and Walnut Ravioli. It's definitely a unique dish and good for those who prefer a taste of sweetness to their entrees. After a few bites, I got tired of the dish. I was expecting a nice blend of sweet and savory flavors, but overall the dish was too sweet for me. The ravioli were also drowning in the heavy sauce. Service was not good here. The staff was friendly enough, but no one really stopped by except to take our orders and serve our dishes. Not a single glass of water was refilled and there was usually no waiter to flag down. Free parking is available in the lot behind the restaurant. I would suggest trying out other Italian restaurants in the area before going to this place.

We went on Saturday night, after struggling to find parking and missing a 7:20 movie. That was a bummer, but I'm not reviewing Waltham...so onward We had a pretty friendly and warm reception when we arrived. We were offered a seat in the bar area while we waited for a table. Everyone was really friendly. We had the eggplant bracciolettini, which we both really enjoyed. I got the lobster ravioli, which was tasty, well-priced, and definitely made in house. Our server was polite and friendly, but a little slow / inattentive (taking forever to get check, etc). I'm also pretty sure he served me regular instead of decaf. My main complaint, however, is the bar. My moscow mule was made with Rose's Lime. I've never been to a restaurant with $40 steaks that would stoop to that level in the cocktail department. And it wasn't just some cocktail I pulled out of a hat. It was on their limited cocktail menu (where "lime juice" was indicated as the ingredient). Also, my bf's dark and stormy was completely mixed with no garnishes or suitable presentation. For the owners: INVEST in your bar. The profit margins on booze are SO high. Switching out real lime juice for rose's lime is SO simple and will get people buying cocktail after cocktail. Take an early Saturday morning, schedule a training meeting, and elevate your cocktail game. It is easy and inexpensive to do so. You'd gain customers like me, who very often come in, post up at the bar, and do nothing but order small bites and drinks for hours. You have the space and the potential, so use it.

The waiter spilled red wine all over my sister-in-law's silk dress and white cardigan and did not offer any sorts of compensation. They are both ruined. We went in for dinner at 7pm, and were not served entrees until 9:45pm. I would never recommend this place.

I give this 2.5 stars. Service was average. Food was okay but not worth the price. Caprese app was good. The ravioli I had was decent. But my friend had the scallops with chocolate risotto and asparagus. They were small and didn't look too appealing. Should have been better for $27.00. I probably won't return.

Yikes. Service was fine, food was good, now let me tell you a bit about the owner. He was playing host. I was 3 minutes late to my own birthday dinner, and he refused to seat my 78 year old grandmother. She asked why, and he said "what if the rest of your party doesn't show? Then I'll have sat 4 people at a 6 person table." 1) Yes, I know that's the rationale of highly sought-after city restaurants where you don't have a reservation (we made one a month ago), but let's face it, this is Waltham, and also you don't say that 2) There wasn't any seating area so my grandmother had to stand - this day happened to be the two year anniversary of my grandfather's death. She bravely tried to celebrate my birthday even though the date was so hard for her. Show some respect. They were together 60 years, and if you think he would've put up with this treatment of her, forgettaboutit. We walked in and the owner saw a cake box in my mom's arms. "You can't have cake here! We don't allow outside food." After standing there for a minute, contemplating leaving and finding some place where there wasn't a storybook troll guarding the entrance, he finally said he would make an exception just this once for a plating fee of $3.50 per person. Fine, whatever. We're not cheap, unlike you. Also, nice rehearsed line for a one-time exception. We sat down and it was so noisy we couldn't have a conversation across the table. I saw a large drink menu including a variation on a French 75, so, seeing that the restaurant thought of itself as a posh city restaurant, and assuming this was a common drink, I ordered one. The waitress came back with a martini glass filled with what tasted like maybe vodka and cointreau. To be clear, a French 75 is gin, sparkling wine with a lemon twist served in a champagne flute. It wasn't in the right glass, didn't have the same ingredients, tasted awful, and when I told the waitress it wasn't a French 75 she said "the bartender didn't know what it was so he looked it up." Where? A quick Google search gave me the ingredients I'm familiar with. The food was good. The caprese salad was fresh. The pasta con vongole was plenty garlicky. My cake was freakin' amazing and by far the best part of the meal. Take that. Would I come back here ever again? Let my widow grandmother get harshly spoken to and disrespected, my mom yelled at for trying to make my birthday special, and my drink reinvented to some inexperienced bartender's whim? No thanks.

I enjoyed a delicious lunch at Biagio today. My friend had the Sea Scollops over risotto and I had the Lobster Ravioli which was stuffed with succulent lobster and came with tail and claw. The vodka sauce was heavenly. They have an expansive wine selection as well as mixed drinks, private dining rooms, and professional yet friendly staff. I highly recommend Biagio for lunch and dinner. The owner, Joey, seated me, was kind, very courteous and welcoming. I'm looking forward to my next visit.

My experience at biagios last night was pleasant , relaxed and delicious. Saw 2 not so favorable ones from last night and maybe because we sat on a top floor of the restaurant ( never sat up there before)? We seemed to have two servers both of which were friendly and efficient without being overbearing. Water was refilled consitantly and my boyfriend and I both had sangria which was great and yummy appetizer! Yes our entrees took a bit but it was a busy saturday night so we sort of expected that. It was really pretty n less noisy up there as well. Overall a lovely evening.

We are from California and were invited to dine here with some friends... 6 of us total. I cannot believe it took about two hours to get our entrees! (And we weren't even drinking!) The waitress never really gave us an explanation as to what was the hold up except to say, she "fired the order"... Now what the heck does that mean? Finally the food came, and everyone seemed happy with their entree (except I thought my penne was way too salty). In the end, no manager or anyone ever came to say sorry for the extreme delay, all we got was a free appetizer for next time... Did I mention we are from California? When am I gonna use that free appetizer card? Wouldn't it have better to just comp a dish or two? Totally unacceptable and unprofessional! I am with Amy c's review... Sounds like we were there the same day and had the same service!

Abominable. From the moment we walked in I knew that there was something wrong. The host was downwright rude and seated several parties despite our reservation. After I spoke to him, he huffed and gave us a table. Not a good start. The waiter was fine but new. Couldn't remember specials to save his life. Had to actually check with another waiter. Drinks were OK. Appetizers were disappointing. Calamari tasty but very sparse. Salads were bland beyond compare. Frankly, the dressing tasted like it came out of an envelope. Main courses were awful. Really, how can you ruin Chicken Parmigiana? It was so dry as to be inedible. My beef special was almost raw in comparison and when I sent it back I got attitude from the host and at that point decided I had enough. Turns out the host was the owner. Well I guess that explains it. Too bad. It would have been nice to have another moderate Italian restaurant in the area. I would give it 0 stars but I guess I can't

Came here on a Friday night and the place was pretty much packed. We had a table reservation so we got seated right away by our waiter (by the way he had an Italian accent which I thought was pretty cool). As soon as we got seated, waters came as well as bread with hummus and garlic infused olive oil and balsamic vinegar. Both were delicious to dip the bread in. I specially liked the roasted garlic that came with the olive oil and balsamic vinegar. For appetizer I ordered the pear and gorgonzola salad. The grilled pear was really sweet and delicious. It was well balanced with the fresh salad, crunchy candied walnuts, sweet cranberries, and creamy cheese. It was delicious. For entree I ordered the spaghetti and meatballs. This was just okay. Nothing really special. The portion was size okay. The meatballs were juicy and delicious and the pasta was well cooked. I also ordered a sangria. This sangria was one of the best I've ever had!! Definitely a must try! Overall, good food and excellent service. Waiters kept checking up on us very often and was really friendly.

I don't know what some of these reviewers are talking about. We've eaten at Biagio on several occasions, and the service (as well as the food) has always been exceptional. Try the Lobster Ravioli, and, as always, the Bolognese.

This is a great gem on Moody St. in Waltham, MA! My friends and I recently came here for dinner for a friend's birthday and had a great time. Our waiter was great and the food was pretty good. The atmosphere of the restaurant was really awesome- it felt very authentic. Our table ordered a bunch of apps and even though we took a break from eating them, the bus girl came and cleaned away all of them before we were done! It happened so fast, we couldn't react fast enough. Also, they were a little slow in refilling our water and drinks. The food was good, but it is pretty expensive. For 7 people (appetizers, dinner and wine), the bill was VERY expensive. I thought my meal was OK, but I was slightly under-impressed, especially at over $20/plate.

Excellent food and generous portions. The calamari is excellent. The fish is always fresh and the pasta choices are excellent. The service can be a little mixed at times with some waits being oddly timed.

I can't say enough about the service at Biagio! My coworker and I planned our company holiday dinner here (30 guests) and from the start Anthony promised a relaxed, personal, smooth running evening with delicious food and terrific staff, he certainly kept his promise. Last night was a success. Jerry and Jacob provided excellent service they were attentive, knowledgeable and personable! The food from start to finish was delectable, everyone I talked to enjoyed each course and was quite pleased with how large the portions were and how many options were available for a private event chef's menu. I never thought event planning could be so easy and successful, but turns out if you are working with Biagio it is! Thank you!!!

Here's a bit of a personal story as to why I will be coming back to Biagio again and again: I came here this past Friday with my Family who traveled down from Providence and my boyfriend from Worcester. This dinner was important to us - some of us hadn't seen each other in over a year. And yet, the second we walked in the door, they treated us with such respect - I have never felt such sincerity in my life. Not only was the service amazing, but the food just melts in your mouth! I come from a Portuguese family, so I know good homemade food when I eat it --- but this was on another level. I had the Lobster Ravioli, my brother had the Ribeye steak special - it was really so good. To top it off they spring fresh cheese and fresh pepper over everything, too! It's definitely aesthetically pleasing from the inside - the walls and ceilings of the staircase will make you feel like you stepped into St Peter's Basilica. I also loved that they treated my older father with respect and managed to crack a few laughs with him. They were even kind enough to give us not 1, not 2, but THREE $15 gift certificates for our next meal....like who does that? :)

Poor disinterested service on a non-busy night. Food was not good. Flavors just didn't match. Nice atmosphere that service and food just don't live up to. Should have checked YELP before we stopped.

We made a reservation for a group of 6. We needed a great restaurant in Waltham to take our college son out to dinner so it was a very special occasion for us and the rest of the group. We looked at several websites, judged this restaurant by the menu and the prices and thought we couldn't to wrong with this. We did not feel welcome. We were shown to our table (on time) but the host couldn't even crack a smile or greet as nicely, politely, warmly. We were seated. We did not want any wine, so the glasses, including the napkins were swept away (we had to ask for napkins at a later point). We were offered a choice of water (sparkly, tap, bottled) but were not asked if we wanted to drink something else. We got very little time to go over the menu, but asked for a few more minutes as we weren't ready to order yet. We ordered, food arrived on time. Some of us had the salmon. It was slightly undercooked. The spinach was uninspired. Just a bunch of sauteed spinach leaves with no particular flavor or great presentation. The potato pancake was undercooked as well and not crispy. Flavor was okay. Some of us had the pasta Bolognese. The sauce was just okay, too much garlic and the pasta overcooked. One of us had swordfish which was okay. Presentation a bit strange, trying too hard without adding any flavor or presentation to it. One of us had a kind of fish stew, also just okay and not enough bread with it. Then for dessert. Most had the lava cake. It came served in a ramekin. Lava cake is not supposed to be still in the ramekin. It needs to come out and when you cut into it, the molten chocolate is supposed to come out. Someone else had the creme brulee. It wasn't flambeed at the table, so not sure how 'brulee' it actually was. Some strawberries (with the green still attached plus some rotten spots in it) were on top, and some blueberries. Why bother? A good creme brulee speaks for itself. Then someone had the tiramisu which was just okay. Since we had a party of 6, gratuity is automatically added. Don't like that at all and is only the second time that has happened anywhere to us. For these kind of prices, we expected a whole lot better. Both in food, but certainly in service and friendliness. We didn't feel welcome at all. No smiles, no little chat and we left with a bad taste in our mouths. To us this was quite an important evening and eating here did not contribute to that. We paid a lot of money for a bad experience. Lesson learned. We will be eating out in Waltham quite often, but will not return here.

DON'T GO! The service is the worst! Atmosphere is great! Food is over priced (by double). Splitting checks is an issue, as well as being charged per plate if you bring your own cake!

Great food. Great service. Great wine selection. What completely ruined my meal was this older gentleman standing at the door smoking a stogie which filled the restaurant with noxious odor. Turned my stomach. There is nothing more insulting to the senses than a cigar. Also when our server returned to our table to check on us he must have just got off his smoke break. He reeked. Completely ruined my meal. I won't return.

No one here for lunch. Surprised to see no one in the dining room for lunch. Just me and one other at the bar. They had their dinner menu for lunch... Maybe that's the problem. I went with the eggplant app and a beet salad. Beet salad was ok... Didn't really like the dressing. Eggplant app was delicious.

Honestly the food was only ok and this place was supposed to be really good but don't waste your time it was mediocre at best but if that won't stop you every 15 minutes you can feel the train go by while everything is shaking in the restaurant

Roof deck bar is fun and great for aps, ambiance inside is romantic and cozy. Perfect for date. Bar is nice. Very clean. Nice decor. Feels a litle fancy. Food is just so-so. We had coconut shrimp which I think they forgot the coconut on and it was deep fried - too much breading. Then a goat cheese beet salad which you cant mess up but was sort of bland too. Then fig marscarpone raviolis w/ cream sauce which was almost too sweet to eat. More of a dessert than a meal. I tried the cesar salad too which was good - great actually. Maybe it is hit or miss. Bread was meh too though. Overpriced. Would go back for drinks only. Service is AWESOME. So nice and efficient.

Biagio Ristorante - Waltham, MA - 9/10/2015 Beautifuuly decorated... Brick walls with paintings and formal drapes purposely hung... Trey ceilings with ornate lighting hung thruout. A beautiful stairwell to the right as you walk in with beautiful stonework... Further past on the right a large wooden bar with a large television center mounted... The music of Sara Renner tastefully thumps from the bar area... It is an absolutely perfect accompaniment to the setting... This is a family establishment and they make everything in house... It is apparent they take great pride in what they do... Before the first dish even comes out you sense that this will be an extraordinary dining experience... The kind you look forward to... At my server Raphael's suggestion, tonights feast features... Eggplant Bracciolettini to start... Eggplant... Ricotta Cheese with Marinara Sauce... Served like a Rollatini and really really good! Followed up with Native Blackened Swordfish... Wild Nova Scotia Swordfish served with Sautéed Spinach, Corn Salsa and topped with Crispy Leeks... When it comes out, you just need to sit back and appreciate what went into the preparation... It looks like a modern food sculpture that I almost feel guilty carving up... Almost because at this point with the aroma coming off the dish I can wait no longer... At this point my taste buds are in a state of euphoria! The dessert will be a tough choice... It's between the Tiramisu and the Cannollis... I went with the Tiramisu... Absolutely amazing!!! Beautifully plated, each forkfull just melts in your mouth... I can't say enough about this place... An upscale setting... Wonderful array of dishes on the menu... Super friendly staff ... Exquisite plating... This place will satisfy the most discerning fine diner... Highly recommended!

Had dinner here a few weeks back. Made a reservation for 7:30 and table was ready when I arrived. Our waitress was very friendly, helpful and attentive. The restaurant is nicely furnished and has a classy, upscale look to it. Prices are a little on the high side for what you get in terms of meals and apps. Food and drinks were average. I have a rule that if I can cook it better myself, I won't order it again. I had the seafood marinara over linguine which was good, but not great. The sauce had no flavor. Neither did the bread. Cocktails were either too sweet or too sour. They have an upstairs lounge and an outdoor patio. That night they had an Elvis tribute artist performing, Mike Slater, and he was great! We really enjoyed his show and he is one of the better Elvis tribute artists. In fact, it was hanging around for his performance that really salvaged the night after a mediocre meal. Nice place, I might give it another try and order something different next time.

I stopped by Biagio for lunch on a weekday, with some colleagues. The experience was underwhelming: Slightly disappointing: Despite being the only table in the restaurant, it took a very long time for the waiter to take our orders. Not a big deal, really, but odd. Much more disappointing: Two of us ordered pasta dishes (I went with the pollo parm). The sauce was very uninspiring and the cheese was flavorless. How can an Italian restaurant not have good cheese and sauce? On the plus side, the lunch prices were quite reasonable. Still, I won't be returning any time soon.

If you like to have high expectations for a restaurant and then be drastically disappointed, I would suggest coming here. I live and work in Waltham. I always pass this place and it looks very nice. So for my 25th birthday this year, I decided to try Biagio's. Knowing I had a group of 5-10 coming for drinks and apps and seeing online they had a lounge area, I decided to call and make a reservation. I got in touch with a call service that takes all calls and reservations before 4pm and had her leave a note on my reservation to request the lounge and for someone to call me back. This way, I could make sure this was the right atmosphere for what I was looking for. The next day the gentleman I spoke to was very nice. He said the lounge was perfect for what I was looking for and that he'd let the bartender know we were coming. He said "Thank you for celebrating your birthday here, we're going to take great care of you!" After that call, I was so excited to go! Little did I know how disappointing it would be. We got there at 7:00, the time of my reservation, on a Saturday night. There was three of us the start, the rest to arrive around 7:30. I walked up to the host desk and gave my name, which they didn't have and didn't put in again. They asked about how many people, I explained again what I was looking for, and was again directed to the lounge. The gentleman smiled, shook my hand, and gestured us upstairs to the lounge. We walked upstairs into the lounge and sat at a sort of curved booth table that was large enough to fit everyone once they got there. There was no music and the lights were extremely dim for it still being daylight outside. I watched a server pass a couple times, saw the bartender pass a few times, and after 20 minutes of being ignored (and I mean absolutely no one talking to us or evening looking), decided to ask someone what the problem was. I spoke to a backwaiter and asked if we were sitting in the wrong place, as I'd never been there before and said that no one had come up. He assured me we were in the right place and said he'd send someone over right away. The music came on, the lights got a little brighter. I sat down and waited another 5 minutes before beginning to get my stuff together. As I was about to leave the bartender approached and apologized for the wait, to which I said we were just leaving. She asked that we stay and took our drink orders. We decided to give it a shot. Another server came up to the table and said "Hi, are you expecting more in your party this evening?" This upset me because I have now explained to 3 different people what could have been explained with 1 reservation. After telling the server the deal, I didn't see her again. I would like to say that despite the slow and inaccurate service I received all night, the bartender was literally trying to be as nice as possible. I did get to munch on some truffle fries and some Rhode Thailand Calamari. The fries were crisp, hot, and fresh. The calamari had great flavor, sweet and spicy. The coating easily fell off and they weren't crisp and hot, but perhaps they were just over sauced (but the sauce is delicious, so fine by me!). All the food (except a salad) came in a fine amount of time. But ten minutes for a cranberry juice? An extra dirty vodka martini with extra olives came over crystal clear with no olives. We sent a salad back twice (first it was the wrong salad, then the wrong cheese on the salad) and then canceled it because we wanted to just leave. It even took forever to get the check. No manager ever came over and no one said a word to me when I was leaving. I'm not sure if it's my age or the amount of money they wanted me to spend, but I wouldn't put another dime near this place. There are plenty of other nice places on Moody Street.

When I went: Friday night in September 2013 Why I went: Celebrating a b-day and had wanted to try Biagio's forever Overall? Amazing time. Cool atmosphere, not too crowded, great food and service. Drinks: Bottle of Chainti Classico (San Felice) App: Calamari. Decent, i really liked the sweet sauce Salads: Caprese (excellent) and Caesar (decent, maybe too much dressing) Entre: Sea Scallops (over a bed of interesting risotto; the scallops were excellent, the risotto was a tiny bit over-fragrant) & my date had the Filet Mignon (I hate to admit it, but this was one of the most excellent steaks I have ever tasted) Dessert: Server brought over tiramisu with a candle. AWWWW. Bonus: Server also brought us 2 shots for "the big birthday". Go for: An expensive and NICE dinner, meanwhile staying out of the city Try: The Filet is expensive, but my goodness, it is worth it.

I really enjoyed everything I had here. Started with the bruschetta & caprese, both lovely...and fresh. I ordered the lobster ravioli for my main course and WOW it was so amazing. I loved every bite. I still crave it and I had it over a year ago. Rich and creamy - decadent. Huge chunks of lobster too. YUM!! We finished with the chocolate souflee - which was good, but I'm not usually a fan of such rich chocolate concoctions. Nonetheless, everyone gobbled it up so it must have been pretty tasty. I loved this place and would absolutely go back. Pricey, but worth the money for sure.

I've gone here a handful of times and I love it. I almost always sit in the bar area, which is classy and mostly quiet, enough so that it's easy to have conversation without straining your ears. There's one large flat-screen TV in the bar area that usually has a sporting event on. First - the service. Like I said, I've gone a few times, and usually spread out over a few months. The servers always recognize me when I come in and are genuinely friendly and helpful. Even when I am not at one of their tables, I've had multiple servers come over to take a drink order, offer more bread, etc. They do a great job at making me feel at home there. The drinks are great. They don't have an enormous cocktail list, but I think there's something on there for just about everybody. As a bourbon guy, I loved the Italian Sidecar. Can't wait to get back in there for another! I've had the sangria in there and it's excellent as well. The food has always been great. Last visit, I got the Capicola Ravioli. I will say that the portion could have been a little larger, but I was still full and satisfied after finishing it up. They had black pepper right in the pasta which was great. My girlfriend got the bolognese and enjoyed it very much. We had the creme brulee for dessert and dear lord... it was just amazing. I love Biagio and can't wait to go back. I've had less than stellar experiences at the 'destination' Italian restaurants (looking at you, Boston's North End). It's a great breath of fresh air to have really good Italian food closer to home, away from the hubbub, in a place that I can be comfortable at.

When we came in the hosts looked startled rather than welcoming. The Osso Bucco had a nice texture but was very bland. The Fig, Mascarpone and Walnut Ravioli were oddly sweet. I wanted to like this restaurant but it was just, "meh."

We had the lobster ravioli, which had a rich, creamy sauce, a lobster tail and claw and was very good. Chicken parm had an old fashioned, slightly sweet red sauce and was accompanied by fried ravioli. Linguine with clam sauce came with about a half dozen fresh clams. The sauce was somewhat dry but had good garlic and olive oil flavor. The waitress was inexperienced and could have been trained better, but she was sweet and accomodating- and the owner was very friendly and clearly wanted his guests to be happy and well fed. The price point is about $2 too much for everything, given that the food falls clearly in the middle between the upscale Northern Italians like La Campania and the low end Villas and Olive Gardens. Wines are pricey as well. Hence the 3 stars, since the value is a little out of whack, Really don't agree with the extreme negatives (or extremely effusive positives) of some reviews. Bottom line- We shall return.

The food was totally edible, but we wouldn't go back. Nothing was bad, but nothing was good. We ordered cesar salad, beet salad, meatballs, chicken parmesan, chicken picatta and risotto, with sorbet and cannoli for dessert. The sorbet was certainly the best part of the meal. The service was fine (although oddly oblivious of conversation and awkward), and the atmosphere was also fine (a little dark for my tastes, but not too noisy). The crowd was old.

The wait staff is wonderful and the food is good if a bit pricey, but the owner is a complete jerk. He completely ruined the mood at my boyfriends birthday dinner! No matter how good the food is, it doesn't make up for horrific service, and service starts at the top. Suffice it to say I won't be back. Too bad, I was considering having them cater my graduation party. Edit: As a note this is from 11/2011. I hadn't realized that it never got uploaded due to a connection error until recently. No clue if the owner has changed since then, but if they had I would go back, the food is amazing.

Went to Biagio last night for the first time and had a nice meal on the patio upstairs. No appetizers or dessert but the main dish was so filling that i didn't miss either course. I went with the marscapone and fig raviolis in a cream sauce topped with sliced prosciutto. the ravs were delicious and sweet and the sauce had diced figs throughout which tied everything together nicely. the salty prosciutto was a nice balance to the sweet figs. The sauce was great, a little garlicky, but very thick. After maybe 4 or 5 raviolis i started to feel super full and the sweetness of the figs became a little overbearing. the portions here are decent for the money...it is a little pricey, though. I did appreciate the fresh pasta and would return here again.

Authentic Italian, including the ambiance and menu, right down to 'ol Blue Eyes belting it out in the background ... the Summer Wind was playing when I walked in. Busy night, sat at the bar. Possibly the best pasta dish I've ever had! Look forward to returning!

An off night for the chef! The entree came out way off. My friend's Scallops were overcooked and my ravioli was undercooked. I sent my dish back and it still came out roughly the same. I think they just nuked it instead of boiling it longer. The appetizers we had was superb. The calamari fritters were tender, as well as the mussels. The bartender was not attentive enough. Had to ask for water refills every time. Seems like he talks to everyone else but us. Guess you have to be Italian to get some attention! The decor was nice. Warm tones w/an Italian touch! The owner is nice; he gave us a dessert since I barely made a dent in my ravioli. I just took a couple bites of that since I'm not a decadence fan. My friend had to rough it and ate most of it! Nice gesture; but I don't eat what I don't like to eat. I'm so difficult to please! I wouldn't come back for dinner again; but as a bar hangout and a snack, it's possible.

Very beautiful restaurant with great décor and layout. I love the windows that open out and let in the cool summer night air. I had the Atlantic salmon with spinach and a potato pancake. The Salmon was delicious but the pancake was crispy on the outside and soggy inside. We ordered the tiramisu for dessert. It was OK. My issue is mainly with the service. The staff was friendly enough and welcoming. However, the service is a bit chaotic and slow. It may have to do with the semi child labor where 10 year olds are the hostess and bus boys, but they are cute (owners' kids placed to work). I was given a dirty used glass with water and didn't realize until the glass touched my mouth (yuk)! Owners need to staff up and get things better organized.

Ok food and a nice dining experience. It was an impulse dinner date on a Monday night - I had sent my wife an open table reservation while I drove up from Connecticut. We split the clams casino and Caesar salad. I wanted a burger but they were out of them so I got the sausage pizza. My wife got a pasta dish. The clams casino were so full of butter we couldn't eat them, and the clams were kinda undercooked and firmly attached to their shells. We didn't eat them and they took it off the bill. The salad was rich and good. My pizza was delicious but very buttery too. I had to be careful to not eat too much or I would get that 'hey you ate too much butter' gastro race to the end if I ate it all. My wife's pasta was very nice but again, very rich and we took a lot home. All in all a good experience but a little lighter fare would have been appreciated. I would return.

Overall a fine experience. The wait staff was friendly and attentive, the food average and the price a bit high, but we all left satisfied, considering it is so hard to find a good dinning experience around MetroWest. We will likely come back, the roof top deck looks like a fun place to have a few drinks.

I went here for lunch with a few business associates. The location is great and has a convenient parking lot in the back (very rare for Waltham). The bread was below average for an Italian restaurant, but it came with this red stuff that was actually pretty good. I would have liked some olive oil though. After I stuffed my face full of bread and red stuff, I decided to order a ceasar salad with grilled chicken. It was actually a really good salad. Very crispy and fresh. However, it came with an uninspiring piece of bread that I guess was supposed to be crouton. I don't like to make my own croutons. I like my croutons already in little pieces. Seemed like a little extra work. The diet coke was phenomenal. I may go back to check out the deck in warmer weather. Looks like it has great views of the river (and the commuter rail).

Good decor and nice wait staff, but the food is just OK. The appetizer "Rhode-Thailand Calamari" came drenched in a very sweet Thai sauce. My wife's risotto was undersalted and my pasta was way over-spiced with rosemary. Seems that a bit more attention to detail in the kitchen could easily make this a great place. Very busy and loud inside.

I went here for a belated Valentine's Day dinner with my fiancee in February. We had a reservation and arrived 5 minutes early, yet we still had to wait nearly 30 minutes to be seated. Our first table was in the middle and very wobbly. Turns out the tables on the middle section are all folding tables. Not very romantic to say the least! The host was miffed when we moved, but there were a few empty tables. We didn't want to wear our food. The ambience was poor. Very loud inside and the lights were too low (hard to read the menu). The entrees were doused in oil. The redeeming points were the appetizers and desserts, which were very delicious. I'm willing to try them when the weather gets warmer. I'd love to try their outdoor seating. I will not go back for their main dining room and will only get apps and dessert.

Recently visited Biagio for the first time (celebrating a coworker's new job) and was pleasantly suprised. Interior is gorgeous; definitely a restaurant with a romantic ambiance. Friends have told me they have a rooftop deck which I may have to try during the summer (although the train going by at regular intervals was quite noticeable inside so I'm guessing it's much louder outside.) The group had a bunch of appetizers including arancini and Rhode Island calamari - both delicious. Prices are a tad high, but the quality of the food makes up for that. My husband and I will definitely give that rooftop dining a try in the future.

My wife and I had an okay dining experience this Valentine's Day. Not special, not especially romantic, but fine -- which is not what you're looking for in a V-Day date. We've been to La Campania and Il Capriccio, the two highest-regarded Italian restaurants in Waltham, for previous special occasions, and had wonderful experiences. Biagio has a similar menu and similar prices, but simply doesn't measure up. Service was adequate but not dazzling, the food was tasty but on the bland side. All in all, I'd compare it to a visit to Bertucci's, which isn't necessarily a bad thing. Just not what you'd find at a top Italian restaurant. To be fair, I've heard great things about the roof deck in the summer. So perhaps we'll give it another try when the weather warms up.

This place is decent-- its not the best Italian you are going to eat, but its also not the worst. The bar is really nice. It's classy and very trendy-- a great place to grab a drink. It's not very big, but that adds to the ambiance. It has a pretty decent beer and wine list, and some good mixed drinks. I would recommend it. The food is just OK. We got some apps (the toasted ravioli were pretty good), and some pasta dishes. The menu is just very simple. Now, simple done really well can be some of the best food you've ever eaten. This is more simple done decent. None of the options will stick out as being very exciting. The one exception was the fig and mascarpone ravioli. It was actually a more adventurous dish and done really well. The service at the bar was pretty bad. This could be because it was a Thursday night, but we were there at 8pm so it shouldn't have been an issue. The bartender just didn't seem to have a grasp on being a waiter, too. The food didn't come very quickly, but it didn't take forever either-- again just sort of middle of the road (a theme of this place). Overall, if you are in the mood for italian, I would recommend other places in Waltham or the surrounding area. I wouldn't say the prices are expensive, but given the mediocre quality, it is overpriced. You can expect to spend $100 on food you won't remember a week later. I would come for the bar and stick to apps or just drinks.

I started going to this restaurant back when it was Casa Mia on Newton St., which I completely loved. The new location and menu have made it even better! The staff and owners are extremely friendly and accommodating, and I get the sense are genuinely interested in you and your dining experience. Definitely see myself returning frequently.

The atmosphere at Biagio is just awesome. I really enjoyed the candlelight and the way it is set up. There was a mix of large (noisy) groups and smaller tables, without it feeling crowded. Our table of six got a variety of items. We all started with drinks; I had a raspberry Mojito (and didn't love it--not sweet enough). Others had soft drinks, margaritas, sangria, and martinis. The baked apple martini tasted like a dessert and the sunrise (?) margarita tasted like gatorade. We got delicous bread and hummus and garlic oil. Very yummy. For entrees, there were various appetizers, pastas and main dishes. I had the fig and marscipone ravioli which was very sweet but very good. Others had a crab meat stuffed haddock (which was very good), sirloin steak, pesto farfalle (which was not so pesto-y), chicken parm with gnocchi and the lamb shank. All really liked their meals. Dessert menu wasn't so lengthy, but the desserts were not so good. We got the creme brulee and the chocolate souffle. The creme brulee needed a few extra minutes to crisp up; it was very watery. The chocolate souffle was too hot but very good. Service was pretty good. Our waiter was a good sport and attentive enough. We had a loud large party behind us which was annoying. There is also an upstairs lounge that looked really fun. Great place. I'd go back again.

The time I had here in their lounge with my friends deserve 5-stars. But the rest, drinks and food get 3 solid stars. Pretty decent for a "hot spot" in Waltham. We started on a disappointing note, as one waitress saw/sat us, asked for our drink order, and then disappeared... to never return to us again. It was disappointing, to say the least. Marlon - our Guatemalan bartender had the flair of a drink-extraordinaire in mixing our drinks, but it ended up being imprecise. The first couple of drinks were weak and tasted a bit lack-luster. But his outgoing personality and somewhat flirtatious nature in working for his tips, were entertaining. And he was still very kind to score me and my gal a round of complimentary shots to celebrate her birthday. The food - the appetizers were hot and delicious, but at $12 a piece, I expected more... not sure what was lacking, but I just wanted something more. Oh yes, and I wanted less salt in the food. Everything was very salty. Good thing the drinks were not strong, otherwise I would have been super parched! But to have one's thirst quenched and to get one's "drink on" was my aim that night. The pizzas - margherita and house - were great. The aranchini was just okay. The calamari was cute. Little rings were easy one-bites, but there were a little too few. The mixed antipasti with prosciutto, and other cuts were super salty. Chunks of parmigianno regiano was interesting, however. The quantity of food was plenty. I think I just wanted something a little extra for somewhere of Biagio's caliber. All in all, decent.

Why is the rating not better here, I don't get it! I have been her a lot and it is always great. I like the specialty pastas they have and always like to try something new here. Great atmosphere and I like the decor. The service has been consistently good and I look forward to going here with my family.

Excellent food and excellent service. We definitely enjoyed our night at Biagio. Both the grilled Atlantic salmon and the seared jumbo sea scallops with their sides were delicious. Disappointed with the chocolate soufflé though. Overall great experience.

Very nice, luxurious feeling interior design. Nice layout and atmosphere. My waiter was wonderful, not over eager but friendly. Food was only OK, I had the steak tips and my wife had pasta and broccoli, both were nothing special. Wine and drink menu were good, however, the beer menu was lacking do to a broken tap.

Excellent night a Biagio's!!! I went here a few weeks ago with my wife we sat at the bar, place was busy and everything was great. Bartender Tom was very good, helped us with a super bottle of wine and navigating the menu. Arancini app is incredible (i thought I was back in Positano) We split Caesar, I had Saltimbocca wife had fish and both were perfect. Couldn't do desert was too full and wanted more great wine. Can't wait to go back.

I have to start off by saying how much I appreciated the manager. We made a Restaurant Week reservation for 6 for last night, but they were running about 15 minutes behind. When we did sit down the manager immediately came over with a big salad for the group, said it was on the house and apologized. It was very nice. And it really made me want to like the place. I tried, really I did. I've been to Biagio's only once before for a bachelorette dinner years ago, and liked it then. The restaurant is attractive, and spacious. The waiter came over to introduce himself and get our drinks. He came back with the drinks. And took our orders. And then he disappeared. It was a good 25 minutes before our apps came out. I got the eggplant and it was great. In fact we sampled all of each others apps and they were all great (especially the calamari). Were they worth the 25 minute wait? Probably not. I ordered the salmon dish, which typically comes with an orange glaze. I asked if they could please make it plain (I'm allergic to oranges) and they did with no problem. Again, a good 25 minutes between the apps and the main course. Again, everyone's food looked really good. I cut into my salmon and realized it wasn't cooked. I'm guessing that there must have been some question of how done it was when it came out of the kitchen since when I finally managed to flag down the waiter he immediately asked if my fish wasn't cooked before I even opened my mouth. He took it back to the kitchen, and I didn't get it back until long after everyone else had finished their meals. Once they cleared the table I asked the waiter for a cup of decaf coffee to have with my dessert. And waited. And waited. Got my dessert. Ate it. Still waiting. Totally different server came over and finally brought me the coffee. Then we played the waiting game to get our checks. By the time we finally got the check it was about 9:35. We got our money together and played the waiting game with the server again. By about 9:50, my friends who live about an hour away had to leave. The rest of us continued to wait. Then we realized that he had charged us for a rib eye steak no one had ordered. By the time he settled the bill, we didn't walk out the door until 10:15. We had been seated at 8. Now, if we had been sitting around drinking and talking and such it really wouldn't have been a big deal. But we weren't. We spent large portions of time waiting and waiting and waiting. The best part? My boyfriend should have been charged $36 on his card. He has a receipt for $36 dollars. He looked at his bank account today. They definitely charged him $63. He will be calling the restaurant tomorrow. The food was good, the manager was nice, and the restaurant itself is a great space. The service was horrible. We know too many other good Italian restaurants in the area to sit around and wait for that kind of service. We won't be going back.

For the price I was expecting a little more. Appetizers were good but the salads were a big disappointment. That being said the main meal was better than good. Steak tips, ravioli, and Haddock were excellent. They have a kids menu for 10 and under. Big portions so we skipped dessert.

This was a terrible experience. We sat at the bar to have a glass of wine and calamari. The food was ok, certainly not exceptional. The manager came over to ask me and my dining partner not to kiss. We were not being inappropriate at all, but he apparently thought we shouldn't show any affection at all. We immediately paid our ridiculously expensive bill and as we walked out, I was told by the manager as we passed the host stand to "go f$&@ myself". It was the most unbelievable evening ever. I will obviously never return here, nor would I ever encourage anyone to waste their money at this establishment. I was not surprised to read many other negative reviews about the manager here. There are fabulous choices for Italian in Waltham such as La Campania or Il Capriccio and simply no reason to visit this restaurant or its rude staff.

Was in Waltham for a work meeting and came here as a group of 7. It was a rainy Wednesday evening but it was still fairly busy (the parking lot was completely full), which was a good sign. I was surprised they were able to seat us without a reservation before I finished my first beer (though in full disclosure I don't drink fast). Nice atmosphere, the food is pretty good, the salads are fresh, I love steak so I ordered the rib-eye and it was extremely tender. The desserts were good, we had tiramisu and chocolate souffle. If you factor in the cost of the meal, it's more like 3 stars but the food itself was 4 stars.. that made sense to me, hopefully it does to you as well. Wait staff was good, no complaints or kudos either way. Worth a visit, especially if you're able to expense the meal.

My rating is a mixed bag of nuts. I went to this restaurant with a couple of friends. We arrived and the restaurant wasn't too busy, so we were seated quickly. Our server arrived, was quite helpful and took our order. When the food was delivered to our table, it was hot and delicious. All seemed to be going well. We had a server who was exceptional, food that I would be happy to eat any day of the week and an atmosphere that would have me returning... UNTIL we were forced to meet the owner. One of my friends had a birthday flyer that offered a free entree, so long as there were at least two people at the table. In addition, she had a gift certificate to use (which everywhere else I have ever been would have been treated as the same as cash, because SOMEBODY paid cash for it). The owner refused to take her gift certificate because he said that it was technically a discount and you can't double-up on discounts. Then, he proceeded to talk about what a great person he was because he gives gift certificates to charity and couldn't tell the difference between our gift certificate and one that was 'free'. You could have knocked me over with a feather. Our dinner even with the gift certificate and free entree would have still been over $100... and this man was arguing over an additional $16 discount??? We paid the full price for the meal, minus the gift certificate (not using the birthday card) and will NEVER be back in this restaurant again. How he has remained open for as long as he has with this level of service, I will never know. There is a better Italian restaurant in Newton. You'll be glad that you drove a few extra miles.

Went here last night with a group of friends, and I was far from impressed. I will say the private parking lot is fantastic and really a bonus while in waltham trying to find a spot. We sat in the bar area since the upstairs was closed for a private party. Too bad there was no signage at the stairs telling people that.. I saw many go up and come back down. Fail. I had a drink in the bar that sounded delicious. When it arrived it was boring and flavorless. When I found out that it cost me 13$ I was even more offended. Service was ridiculously slow, we had to get up from our seats to find drinks. At the end of the night, we had to track down the credit card since half of our party was moving on to another venue. My friend had a pizza which looked really good. I tried their bread that comes with two sauces. Garlic olive oil was olive oil with whole cloves of garlic in it. Not nearly enough garlic flavor in my opinion. They might consider roasting the garlic first. That will give more flavor AND allow patrons to scoop up the soft garlic on their bread. The other dip was some kind of white bean concoction that LOOKED delicious. Unfortunately it was underseasoned. I was really looking forward to this place. Unfortunately I will not be going back.

This past Friday my friend and I had planned on doing a girl's night and doing dinner and a movie. We picked Biagio on my friend's recommendation and I am so glad she did! We sat up on the roof deck and had a fabulous time! Started off with Grey Goose Martinis and while looking over the menu discovered that they were participating in restaurant week! We both had the pear and Gorgonzola salad, which was crisp and refreshing. There were lots of appetizer choices, but I was gearing up for Fig and Marscapone Raviolis which were delicious and a chocolate souffle that was out of this world, so I wanted to make sure I had room! They did not skimp on portions either, sometimes during restaurant week the portions can be petite, but not here. I couldn't finish all the raviolis nor could I finish the decadent souffle! That was a sin! We enjoyed our time savoring every moment...this place would get a 5 star if there was a better view and not right by the commuter rail! LOL But to enjoy a beautiful summer night that are so few in this area, it was worth it!!! And to be honest only one train went by the entire time we were there.

Went there on Wednesday night. We had a couple of very good meals. I had the chicken parm with gnocchi. Will order it again but will ask for a gnocchi substitution for they were just okay. Pasta puttanesca was tasty and the Sangria will be ordered again. Wait staff was friendly and attentive. Will be back !

Our second visit to Biagio, and it was as good as the first. We had various salads; beet/goat cheese, caesar, and pear and gorgonzola. The 4 of us were all very happy with our choices. One of us had a special veal chop dinner, which he said was terrific. I liked my pasta with crumbled sausage/broccoli rabe, and the other two diners liked their pasta as well. Portions are ample, our waitperson was excellent, and the wine list extensive. Having their own parking lot in the rear of the building helps a lot on that section of Moody St, or any section of Moody St for that matter. We will definitely return again to Biagio. Good variety, vibe, and food!

I have eaten at Biagio once before about 3 or 4 years ago and was thoroughly impressed with everything ordered that night. I wish I could say the same about my visit to Biagio last night on Valentine's Day. My boyfriend and I recently moved to Waltham, and being a huge fan of Phantom Gourmet, I keep seeing the commercials each week during the show and have been planning to visit the restaurant for a second time. Valentine's Day seemed like the perfect occasion to do so. I made reservations for me and my boyfriend for 7pm and we were seated almost immediately, which was great. We ordered drinks (I had the pineapple mojito) and I was honestly quite revolted that most of the mint in my drink was dark brown, sludgy, and clearly not fresh at all. I did my best to remove the rancid mint and finish my drink, but it was not enjoyable. Who serves rotten mint in their cocktails and doesn't notice that it's clearly disgusting??? I should have said something, but our server seemed really busy and I figured I would just suck it up and try to enjoy my Valentine's Day experience. Our appetizer was the arrancini, which I had ordered the first time I went to Biagio and I remembered it being scrumptious. Well, the arrancini was hands-down the best thing (and sadly, only thing) my boyfriend and I ordered and really, really liked. The only downside is that it wasn't hot, at all...but it did taste really good! For dinner, I had planned all day to order the fig and marscapone ravioli, but as soon as I did, our server advised that it was really sweet and if I didn't like really sweet raviolis, then this might not be the dish for me. Afraid of ordering the raviolis and not liking them, I changed my mind and decided to order the chicken and sausage orecchiette instead, which is supposedly a hot-selling dish. My boyfriend ordered the chicken parmigiana. Honestly, I was extremely underwhelmed by the chicken and sausage orecchiette, and my boyfriend felt the same about his dish. For flavorful items such as sausage, basil, and vodka sauce, I was expecting this to be really tasty, but it was just so...very...BLAND! I've had vodka sauce in the past and really liked it, but this particular vodka sauce tasted watered-down and under-seasoned, and the rest of the dish was truly just unimpressive...chicken pieces, sliced sausages, and a few torn basil leaves mixed in with some orecchiette. Meh. Unfortunately, there was absolutely nothing special or tasty about this dish and I barely ate any of it. My boyfriend's chicken parm was just ok. It certainly was not in the top 10 best chicken parms either of us have ever had and the gnocchi that came with it was under-cooked and flavorless. All-in-all, for the $87 we paid for food and drinks, it definitely was not worth it. The food is absolutely 100% over-priced for the quality that you get, especially when I take into consideration that the best dish I have ever eaten in my entire life is the gnocchi from Bricco in the North End, and that dish is only $2 more than the chicken and sausage orecchiette I had last night, so it clearly was not worth it - whatsoever. I could have made much more flavorful versions of these same exact dishes in the comfort of my home for at least half the price we paid last night. I did inform our server that I did not like my dinner, but she really didn't seem to care. I was disappointed and wished we had gone some place else instead. I really wanted to have a delicious meal and cocktails with my boyfriend for our first Valentine's Day together, but the only enjoyable thing about our whole Biagio experience was the lukewarm-temperatue arrancini. I'm not sure if the restaurant is under new management now or has a new executive chef since I first visited a few years ago, and I hate to give any restaurant a "bad review," but the food and drinks were totally unimpressive and forgettable. Maybe it was just because it was Valentine's Day and they were really busy, but either way, we certainly have no plans to return. If you want high-quality, extremely flavorful and delightful authentic Italian food, do not go to Biagio - go to Bricco in the North End. It's certainly not a place for those on a budget, but the food (especially the gnocchi) is so ridiculously delicious that I would probably pay double the cost for such amazingly yummy eats.

I feel like Ive been giving out 5 star reviews like candy recently.... Anyway, this place is down the street from my apt and was more or less the only place I hadn't eaten at on Moody St. I had mixed expectations - consistent with the reviews I had read prior to going. However, I was blown away. First off the building is really neat from the outside (converted office building) and the exposed brick is present throughout the inside. When you walk in there is a huge winding staircase leading to the upstairs (event space, or maybe roof top seating during summer? Unsure.) there is also a gorgeous painted dome ceiling. The dining room itself was also beautiful - exposed brick walls, nice hard wood floors, and nice big chairs and pleasantly presented tables. The service was very good - and our waiter was able to explain two types of wine I had not had before in a way that was very intelligent and understandable. I ordered a glass of Barbera, split an order of the arancini with my dining companion, and had the pan seared jumbo scallops for dinner. The wine was excellent, as were the arancini. I was glad to be splitting it - it would have been a huge appetizer for an individual. The jumbo scallops were placed on top of a delicious polenta (idk what they put in it, but it was awesome), along with three big asparagus stalks. The scallops were a bit crisp on one side, and marinated (or something) in a delicious sauce. Cooked perfectly! Between the fabulous decor and atmosphere, and the excellent food, this place is def. a five star in the book of Ave A Flav.

Tough call on the rating. On the one hand: - We were seated 7:30pm and got our entrees at 10:05pm. - Several orders were wrong - When I went to the manager to discus the situation, he said "I don't want to hear it". On the other hand: - Most of the meals were quite good (even the wrong ones!) - The manager quietly comp'd us a large portion of our meal - It was the night before the annual graduation of a major local university, and the place was PACKED! - Most of the people in our (large) party seemed to have a nice time despite the delays and errors. So, while I will personally be treating this as a one-star place (i.e. avoid!), I think most of my party would have rated it as 3 stars, and perhaps a few of them, 4 stars. YMMV.

This place is my favorite place to go in Waltham for a great meal. It can be expensive but the food and service are always on point. It's the consistently of the food and service that is so important in getting a five from me. I'm a big fan of the Portuguese fisherman's stew and the fig and prosciutto appetizer. The owners are always out front and are generally walking around checking on meals as well. It is also a good place to go for a drink after work and in nice weather you can sit outside upstairs which is great since it's right on the river.

The food is good, the roof deck is lovely, the decor is over the top, the dining room is loud and service is spotty. We call it "Badda-Bing's" because you can't find more fake tans, gold pinky rings and escalades unless you go to NJ. And I think those are the owner and his friends. Love love love the caesar salad.

Food was good, not great. A little expensive for this type of fare. You could eat better and spend a lot less money at the nearby Chateau. Our server was excellent, however, it was obvious other diners around us weren't as lucky with their server. The biggest turn-off to this place was the owner himself. He was a complete Ass Hat! We arrived on time for a reservation for 6 people. The rest of our party was parking the car and he refused to seat us because the rest of our party wasn't there yet. My Mom is 78 years old and he wouldn't let her sit! He said, "Well what if only 4 show up, then I've wasted my table for 6." I was shocked, especially since we had just told him the rest of the party was parking the car. Strike One. It was a special birthday for my Niece and my Sister had brought a cake. He greeted her by saying "No outside food allowed!". After some conversation he agreed to allow the cake to be served for a $25 fee! Outrageous! Strike Two. Lastly, while the exposed brick and high ceilings look cool, the noise level is off the chart and it was difficult to have a conversation with the whole table. Strike Three! If not for our fantastic server I would have given it one star. This is my first Yelp review and I opened the account to specifically call out the owner of this place for being such a jerk. We won't be back.

Going to Biagio is like stepping into Artie's restaurant on The Sopranos. While it might be slightly cliche, Biagio delivers because you get everything you're expecting in a totally awesome way. In fact, it's like The Sopranos in general: tasty, deeply entertaining, and when it's done you want to go back and get more (Tony totally got whacked in the final scene, btw). I went here on Saturday evening for drinks, which quickly turned into dinner. The eggplant bracciolettini is absolutely delicious--make sure to order the large! For an entree, I ordered the fig and mascarpone ravioli. They were sweet and savory at the same time, and I was so happy that the chef didn't skimp on the portion. Also, the bread is addictive. I would love to try their desserts. I would also love to go back to Biagio, but as a grad student, I have to wait. Sometimes good things don't come cheaply.

I have been here twice over the past few months and had two completely different experiences. First time, everything was great. Food, drinks, and service, everything was almost upscale. Second time here, everything was so mediocre, actually nothing was good. They definitely need some consistency at this place. I'm not sure if I want to try this place again.

Biago's is one of my favorite spots in Waltham. I've eaten there a few times, but this place is one of my favorites for cocktails after-work and on weekends. I prefer the upstairs lounge area, which has a bunch of comfy couches, good music, flat screen TVs that are usually playing some sort of music or concert. Also really dig the outdoor, roofdeck patio. It has a great ambiance there and the staff are wonderful. The owner came over and introduced himself the first time I was there with my girlfriend, and he's made a point to say hello each time since we've been back. The sangria is WONDERFUL, and the Pomegranate Smash martinis are to die for. I've had the margarita pizza which is delicious and BIG, and for a good price. Mixed greens are also really yummy... with walnuts and pear... mmm. Love it here and can't recommend it enough!

I went here during restaurant week with my best friend and even before we got out of the parking lot, our great experience at Biagio started! The owner is very hands on here and makes sure everything goes smoothly. He even met us in the parking lot, then met us at the hostess stand to make sure we were happy with where we sat. The wine selection was huge and the waiter was happy to help us with our decisions. The food was superb! We kept steal bits of each others food because everything was so delicious. The owner then checked on us again to make sure everything was perfect... it was! Inside and out, the atmosphere and decor is very comforting and welcoming. I would recommend this to restaurant to anyone who loves quality Italian and a good night out! The people running this place really understand customer service and how to make a great impression on their clientele.

I really want to give this place one star because the host was uppity but, that would mislead readers by indicating that Biagio is a terrible restaurant when, in fact, it's solidly mediocre. I will not go back. Moody St. has many much better restaurants even cheap eats like Guanachapi's and Tom Can Cook are preferable. The décor of Biagio is nice. The kitchen is probably fairly clean too but, the chef doesn't have the right touch. The food tastes like he's reheating little prefab frozen bags of stuff. Kinda a gooey and salty--generally not fresh tasting. The quality of the food I had reminded me of the Cheesecake Factory. If you want ambience, a bar, good food, and basically a high end experience on Moody St. then go to Tempo. It's much better.

This review is purely for the bar area...great drinks from an entertaining bartender. We stopped by for drinks after a dinner in the area. We were just in time to watch the place change pace from a classical Italian music to rave-like hits. Our bartender was shaking cocktails like it was the movie! Although I'm not a techno music person, the other customers and staff there made the night pretty entertaining!

I went here last night for the first time for Boston's Restaurant Week. Unfortunately I was not impressed. I called to make a reservation for 7:30 that day. The person on the phone told me that they were booked and the earliest time available was 7:50, so I made the reservation for 7:50. We got to the restaurant about 7:40. (I should mention the decor, parking, and cleanliness of the place - all get 5 star). As we walked in, the host was not around to greet us, but I noticed a lot of free tables, and the place did not look busy at all. I wondered, why they wouldn't give me a reservation for 7:30 then? We were finally seated, at a table in the middle of the dinning room, which was shaking and had to be fixed as our food was brought out to us. Our waitress was friendly but missing for most of the part (she didn't care to bring the bread until after we got our appetizer, or even check on us). The food was good, but not great. Veal parm was drenched in tomato sauce that made it impossible to taste the meat. I got an arancini appetizer which was a great little dish. We also tasted classic meatballs appetizer (also great!), veal limone (tasty), and salmon (pretty good). I didn't care too much for the tiramisu, but overall the food was alright. I doubt I would come here again, because of the "too loud" atmosphere and lack of the service (vs. $$$).

Our waiter was very pleasant. The restaurant very noisy. If you order any of the specials, be sure to ask the price because they don't tell you. I ordered one and it turned out to be a complete rip-off. If I had known the price I never would have ordered it because it wasn't worth what was in the dish- which was mainly linguine with shrimp and mussels (very small ones).

This review is for the bar upstairs on a Saturday night. They have a decent wine selection and there are nice trendy couches to sit on. It didn't get insanely packed but still had a good crowd. It can be on the pricier side for Waltham but the atmosphere is worth it. There is a parking lot in the back that can fill up but it is nice to have it so close.

Second time back here. Made reservations for the patio which we found out when we got there that it was first come first serve on the patio so we sat at the bar and had drinks and apps. Ordered the Philly cheese rolls which were to die for!!! And Anthony the owner gave us rice balls on the house! Split the spaghetti and meatballs for dinner and cannolis for dessert. Once again a delicious meal and this time with a great view!

Biagio is a beautiful place with a great menu. The food is very good and the portions generous. The atmosphere is warm and relaxing. I've been there with my large group and on dates and both felt appropriate. When I brought a group of over 50 people, the staff remained friendly and courteous even though acommodating all the different personalities must have been a nightmare. In the end, everyone loved the experince and was very impressed by the place. I've gone back several times and have always had great experiences and their Espresso Martinis :-D

Went here on a date and was impressed. Great waitress, not too crowded, but not pathetically dead, great date place with the level of service you'd hope for in a nice place that isn't snooty. I wish Lexington's dining scene weren't so lame, relative to Waltham.

I think this place is incredibly expensive for the quality of food you get. The food is good, don't get me wrong, but it's extremely middle-of-the-road. So you end up paying what you would at Tuscan Grill, or La Campania, or Il Capriccio, but you get a meal that is closer to something you would get at The Chateau. Service is very, very slow, and the bar is expensive. $10 for a mixed drink in Waltham doesn't fly. You could do better picking a random number between 200 and 500, adding "Moody St" to it, and then going there for dinner. Even if it means you end up eating at the comic book shop.

  • R. B.

Not worth the money. I expected it to be a little expensive, but I thought the food would at least warrant the cost. The appetizers: arancini ($11) did not have much taste, but the Pear & Gorgonzola Salad ($9) was decent. My shrimp scampi ($22) had virtually no flavor and the pasta was undercooked. I felt like asking for some garlic to put on it! My friend said his chicken marsala's sauce was watery. The service was ok, except the waiter didn't tell us that the kitchen was going to close so that we could order dessert (which we did want), even though he had plenty of time to. P.S. very uncomfortable chairs!

Went here for the first time last month (FINALLY after living in Waltham for almost a year) for my boyfriend's sister's birthday. The food was AWESOME. The restaurant is very well decorated and unbelievably clean. WARNING: The menu on their website is not the menu they give you at the restaurant. My guess is that they haven't updated it in a while, because a few things were missing, some things were added, and a lot of dishes were slightly different. This also includes their drink menu. For apps we had calamari, eggplant bracciolettini and an arancini with meat. The eggplant bracciolettini is definitely not to be missed. I ordered the seared scallops which came with a lemon and white chocolate risotto, which may have been THE most interesting flavor I have ever tasted. Paired with the sea scallops, I could not stop eating it. Every bite was an adventure. The scallops were huge and very very fresh. I'm drooling just thinking about it... The cocktails are delicious as well. I was a big fan of the mojitos and the sangria was ok. My boyfriend and I decided to grab a drink at the lounge last week. Unfortunately, this is why I didn't give it 5 stars. The lounge itself is beautiful, but the music was so loud I could barely hear our conversation. I'm not sure if the music was blaring because of the birthday party going on...but no one was dancing, there's no need for music that loud. We're in a lounge, not a nightclub. For a Saturday night, the place wasn't very packed, I'm guessing because all the college kids went home for the summer? There were a lot of people out on the roof deck though...which is going to be awesome once July rolls around. We didn't hang out there too long, because it got a little chilly and I seriously can't handle cigarette smoke. Hmmm...maybe I won't be hanging on the roof deck after all...

Kind of a letdown. It takes more than Frank Sinatra on the P.A. system to make a good italian joint.

I have dined twice at Biagio and wasn't wowed ether time. On my last visit I had the eggplant parm with gnocchi. The eggplant lacked flavor and the gnocchi was heavy and needed salt, pepper, and more sauce. I think I prefer grabbing a drink and a light appetizer at the bar. The upside? Convenient location, easy to park at, and very friendly staff.

Went there yesterday for dinner for the first time. I've gone there a few times in the summer for drinks and remembered having a great tiramisu martini. I went back since one of my friends wanted to try the restaurant week menu. Lo and behold they no longer serve the tiramisu martini. That should have been my first sign. They said they could still serve it and when it arrived it was nothing like it was previously. i have to say the entire meal was disappointing. While we could see what the chef was trying to go for they really missed their mark with all the plates. We had the chicken florentine off the regular menu and off the dinner menu the fried calamari, the fig and mascarpone ravioli and tiramisu. The tiramisu was good but good tiramisu isn't hard to find. So all in all, a good place for afternoon drinks or a chill night with friends, especially in the summer when there patio is open. but if you're looking for a good dinner, I would look else where.

LOL! Case in point about Waltham. When I checked out the Biagio's website, there is a kid I went to Highschool, my aunt and my 2nd cousin in the gallery. I have been avoiding Waltham for the past year or so but I always will make a trip to Biagio's...in fact, I am going to a few 30'th b-days here. They have a gorgeous deck on top, nice flat screen and unbelievable menus...their main entrees are reasonable at $22 on average...everything else is about $15 average. The wine selection is another ace and I actually ignore the fact that I might see someone I rubbed elbows with in first grade open it for me. I love the fact that the view from the roof deck over looks the Charles and Felton street, which 10 years ago, you wouldn't even want to drive down. GO WALTHAM!

Mediocre service at best-food was ok but not worth it when all was said and done. I"ve been three times now-trying to get a better experience. Not money or time well spent I'm afraid. Each time the service is poor, the host, clearly a relative of the owner or some rich client, seems like he is doing a favor by getting you situated. I've walked in and had reservations and the host, using this term freely, always seems to be distracted and more like a casual patron than an employee. So many other establishments that do better from both a food and service perspective. Why bother?

I just went to Biagio for only the second time. The first time, I sat at the bar and had a good but overpriced dinner. I was immediately struck by the beautiful decor. The interior is beautiful! This time, I went to their roof deck for a glass of wine. I was initially very impressed with it. There were many tables but it wasn't over-crowded. The sun had just set and the moon was out. The atmosphere was lovely until...they started playing terrible, loud, and obnoxious techno music. It totally did not match the place - the environment, the atmosphere, the clientele, the vibe. I found it very annoying and it destroyed the mood for me. Music can change everything.

I've been here twice. The first time was very good. But the 2nd time.. holy moli, it was fabulous! I went with a friend who has pretty bad allergies and our waitress was so understanding and thoughtful, it made us very comfortable. The bread/pesto/stuff that they give you to start was delicious! I got the filet and ate every little bit. Everything was sooooooo good. The waitress didn't rush us and we had a great time! My friend was able to special order her side dish so she was a very happy camper too. Can't wait to go back.

The other day my friend had a birthday party here.. the drinks were fabulous (try their Almond Joy martini or their Deeva champagne drink) and the food that they had for the mini "buffet" was delicious!!! Chicken and broccoli, the MEATBALLS, the sausages.. yum yum yummmm!! I wanna come back for a real meal... and I'll update this.

Came here for a dinner with my coworkers this evening . . . and was pleasantly surprised by the overall quality of this somewhat-newcomer to the Moody Street scene. Our server, Rhett, did a great job of handling our party of 10--and for making himself heard over the din of the restaurant's many diners (place was packed on a Tuesday night). Food was entirely lovely--my fig and mascarpone ravioli was as decadent as anything Todd English serves up. My favorite wine (Frog's Leap Sauvignon Blanc) was on the list, which made me happy :-) Everything was super-yummy, right down to the fluffy focaccia bredsticks--and the decor is lovely as well. However, points off for two key reasons: 1. The acoustics are INSANE here, and it was so loud that I could hardly hear the people sitting directly across from me at our dinner table. We were shouting like we were out at a bar, as opposed to an upscale Italian restaurant in the 'burbs. 2. This is a bottled water-only establishment. Really? Really. No club soda. No still water from the tap. It's strictly Pellegrino or Panna here. Holy moneymaker. Stick with the vino, folks. One cool redeeming quality--for which I'd give back a half star if Yelp allowed such a thing--our waiter also oversees the patio area, and told us that he'd give us a complementary bottle of champagne if he saw us out on the patio. Even though he made a pretty penny off our party tonight (which was on the company dime, thank you very much!), I thought the gesture was quite kind. We're totally coming back for the bubbly and apps.

Not a fan! Beautiful ambiance BUT way too pricey when you consider the quality of the food and the fact that Capriccio is not far at all. Another thing, the actual dishes were very pretty but once we dove into out lamb chop the dish started moving all over the place because there was no tablecloth on the table - very annoying! This place was a huge dissappointment!

Solid 5 star again. Prix Fixe menu is an AWESOME deal. Got a salami plate, salad, tortellini, wine, and tiramisu. I love every bite at this place. Prices are on par with the olive garden but the food is on par with places in Italy. Same could be said for the limoncello. A+ Experience

This place is quite the mixed bag. In summary, I'd only go there during restaurant week. That way you can try things, but not spend a ton of money because this place is a little pricey. Portions were huge, but alot of the stuff like the Arancini and Bombolotti Bolganese were lacking in full flavor. Then again the Fig and Marscapone Ravioli would be worth going back their again for it's totally unique flavor and delicious sauce. The same deliciouness applied to the tortellini with prosciutto that everyone at my table was sampling. Deserts included the standards like tiramisu and canoli's, but nothing special taste-wise. The watery creme brulee proved that no one can really screw up creme brulee. Oh the red sangria tasted so yummy and like candy...proceed with caution as it might go to your head :) Service was spotty and we did have reservations, but still had to wait 15 minutes to be seated.

The menu feels limited, at least there didn't seem to be a large selection of entrees. The food they have is good and they definitely put effort into the presentation of the food. The restaurant has great atmosphere, not loud, but it was full of people. The service was so-so, we had glasses of wine and a salad, and then someone else brough our entree and the waiter didn't come back until we were done with our entrees. Had he checked in, we would have ordered another round of drinks, as we had none with our meal which was disappointing. I would suggest not going at a busy time. The waiter was good & friendly, it just seemed that they were understaffed, as he was swamped and never made it back to us until it was too late.

Initially I had actually intended on cocktailing here for the summer, but as various weeks of training progressed, I found myself getting tired of driving to Waltham from Revere and working it atop my 8-5 job wasn't terribly feasible with the hours of which they required of me. Needless to say, I knew this place was going to be fantastic in terms of a dining experience. It is a former office building remodeled and is loated directly next to the Waltham stop on the commuter rail. They have an EXTENSIVE wine list and a great drink menu, including some fairly decent mojitos and martinis. The atmosphere is fairly upscale, but you still feel warm and at home and can be comfortable in more casual attire. I had previously done a food/wine tasting here during my brief employment and sampled numerous things such as their tuna tartar and crabcakes. All of which were fantastic. Their head chef is a gentleman named Brian, who is the former head chef of Finz up in Salem. He has brought his love of raw bar to Biagio, which has a mainly Italian menu. With this in mind, we returned this weekend to see how business was and try out the menu. I ordered a mango mojito and linguine with clams. Anthony, the owner's son, bought us a pitcher of Sangria for the table as well, which was fantastic, not to mention really generous of him as he attempted to persuade my roommate and I to work there for the summer. I'll definitely be back when it gets warmer out, to check out the roof deck dining. I know for a fact, that they don't accomodate highchairs or have a kids menu here. Not kid friendly, and for that I'm thankful and I'm sure the waitstaff is appreciative that they're not peeling 1/2 inch pieces of spaghetti off the floor.

I absolutely love this place. The portions are HUGE even though it can get a little pricey. However, two people splitting one app and one entree can easily get out of there spending about $20 or less each. The food is really really delicious and the drinks are not too expensive. Sometimes they have dj's upstairs in a little club type thing, which under 21's can get into. Totally recommended! But parking can get a little difficult.

This place isn't bad, it's just not all that good, and there are several much better Italian restaurants in Waltham (La Campania, Il Capriccio). If Biagio were much cheaper than either one of them I could see a role for this place, but the dinner we had was about what we would have spent at La Campania and neither the food nor the atmosphere were at the same level. The decor is interesting and attractive, but there are few if any soft surfaces and as a result it's incredibly loud. The night we went the dining room was half full and we had trouble hearing the waiter and he had trouble hearing us. For a decent Italian meal for a big group this is probably a reasonable option. If your primary motivation is drinks on the river, try Margarita's short walk away on the other side of the river.

This place was ok, but overpriced and service was verging on awful. We arrived, 3 of us for dinner. We waited almost 10 minutes for a waiter to come over. When he finally did we ordered wine and calamari and then he dissapeared for another 10 minutes. We finally got our wine, the appetizer was just a few minutes behind. The calamari was crispy and fresh and the dipping aoli was good, though it could have used some lemon and salt. My friends each ordered a pasta dish and enjoyed it. I ordered the alfredo pasta with shrimp on top. Even though the sauce was creamy and the dish was served hot, it had no taste and was SO salty that I literally wanted to send it back. Only problem - the server never came back for me to do so. So I ate my shrimp and called it a night. The server didn't come until well over 15 minutes after we were done eating. I don't understand why there were more than 3/4 of the tables open and the service was SO bad. Lastly, we noticed that every other table had bread, which we never got. I might give this place another shot on the chance that they were having an off night, but it wasn't all it was cracked up to be.

Overpriced, staff is arrogant and unfriendly, food is mediocre, and the place is dark and noisy. There is much better sophisticated, modern Italian food in Waltham. Try La Campania or Il Capriccio, both on Main Street, or Tuscan Grill on Moody Street. La Campania is my favorite because the food is uniformly excellent and the service is warm and friendly. Most of the wait staff have been with the restaurant for over a decade--a tribute to the great food and the wonderful attitude of the owners. It is a family business that makes you feel like part of the family.

yety another review fo the the waltham quad itialian resturants. this guy was new when the wifey and I went, so i would have expected some kinks, which there were. first i remeber the smell of paint while i ate, not great, but thats becuase ti just opened. fair location, better then some other resturantas in the area, could feel the commuter rail as they went by. we got a picutre of sangrea, it took quite some time to come out, which i could expect, nothing great in the long run. the food was fair again, i got the veal parm and gnoochi, which was again fair, nothing like the ones at La campaine, which were very good to my recall. the entire meal was about 100 which was (and is ) quite expensive for what it really is, so i have to amend that waltham needs to tone down the cost a bit....come on people, its not kobe Waygu and white truffles you're serving!

After watching this building get renovated for quite some time, we finally dined at Biagio's this week. It is located directly next to the Waltham center commuter rail stop, so it is very easy to get to via public transportation, but the restaurant has ample parking in addition. This place is an excellent addition to Waltham's already diverse selection of restaurants, and is along the same lines as the upscale Tempo, but the food is Italian, of course, and the waitstaff is 10x friendlier. There is a rear terrace overlooking the Charles, and according to our waiter, there are plans for a top floor lounge. We shared an appetizer of tempura artichoke hearts stuffed with goat cheese and red peppers, which were excellent--very crunchy exterior, not greasy at all. For my entree I had the chicken saltimbocca with mashed potatoes and vegetables on the side. My fiance had a pasta with red sauce and chicken (the name is escaping me right now), and it was excellent. Both of our entrees were pleasantly devoid of that over-seasoned/over-salted element that many establishments make the mistake of adding to their food. Dining at Biagio's is a lot like dining at home, if you were an amazing chef, or had one employed in your home. The food is unadulterated, but not boring. The physical restaurant itself is beautiful. Warm colors on the walls, gleaming hardwood floors, and soft lighting create a very nice, relaxed atmosphere. Our waiter was super attentive and friendly. The only downside to my night at Biagio's was the red passion sangria I had, which was sadly quite watered down. I am definitely going to return to Biagio's, though, and will skip the sangria and go right for their wine list.

My boyfriend and I had tried this place when we first started dating. I was in the mood for Italian and so he made a reservation. I was not expecting this place to be as magnificent as it was. The place is gorgeous - great interior decorating! The atmosphere was elegant yet had the Italian family charm. Our dinners were great along with the wine. We were very pleased. They also had a bar with the game on so I could catch the score that evening beyond the wall. We would certainly love to return and experience the outdoor dining now that it is warmer out.

We dined at Biagio's this evening, I was blown away. The outside was very unsuspecting and the interior is beautiful. I had the mushroom ravioli which were delcious and my friend had the cod special. Great music, relaxing and a nice crowd. I can't wait to try it on a weekend night and check out the lounge upstairs. The owners said this was only their3rd week open, interested to see what specials they will run. Outdoor patio during the summer months too.

Since I'm car-less, I rarely get the chance to try any restaurants outside Boston or Cambridge, but my department was doing a dinner here last week, and that gave me the chance to give Biagio a whirl. What a treat it was! The drinks were great (the Biagio mojito is fabulous) and I enjoyed sitting on the patio with my co-workers winding down from a day at the office. The outdoor space alone is reason enough to make the trek to Waltham. When we went inside for dinner, the waiter was incredibly patient with our large group and made some awesome suggestions. I would recommend the stuffed eggplant appetizer - the stuffing was pure bliss and the eggplant was delicately fried to perfection. For dinner I had the special of the day (cod stuffed with crab) and thought it was awesome. Not too dry and cooked to the perfect flaky texture. The restaurant itself is absolutely beautiful - a little birdie told me that it used to be an insurance office, but the hardwood flooring, hand-painted murals and tasteful design don't even remotely allude to that fact. This is the kind of place that makes me wish I had wheels :-).

I took my boyfriend here this past week for his birthday. We've been driving by since they renovated and were enticed by the open window dining room in the summertime but didn't have an occasion to justify going there until now. I had read some of the reviews on here before going and assumed a lot of the service kinks had to do with opening a new restaurant and would be resolved by now. I went there with an open mind and was confident we would have a great experience. Overall we did but I was a little disappointed with the service. We ordered a bottle of wine and neither (yes neither- we had two waitresses) of our waitresses ever came by to refill our glasses, even when they were completely empty. My boyfriend's water glass was empty and no one came by to refill that either. Even when he pushed it toward the edge of the table as a hint. It was a slow night and although our waitresses were catering to a large party, I still think they could have shown us more attention. They were both very professional but being a former waitress myself the little things mean so much to me and I was really surprised that with their fine dining training they ignored them. Oh and they gave me someone else's leftovers! I was pretty disappointed the next day when I went to pack them for lunch :( Not to end on negative note- my boyfriend really enjoyed his tagliatelle chicken dish (I had a bite and it was very good) and my gnocchi was good but I didn't expect too much. I was trying to be economical and ordered something plain and that's what I got. I had read someone else's comment about the "canned" tomato sauce and I agree. It was supposed to have marinara sauce and it tasted an awfully lot like canned crushed tomatoes- it needed salt but there wasn't any on the table and I didn't want to offend by asking for it. I really wasn't disappointed with the dish because it met my expectations. The restaurant itself is beautiful although it does have a bit of a sterile feel to it. I'm sure as they get settled in there it will start to have a "home-y"/lived in feel.

Great dining experience - went for my birthday with a group of 6, service was phenomenal, drinks were great, food was very good. We sat for a good 2 1/2 hours and were never rushed, and the waitress was very attentive and had a huge smile on her face the entire time she took care of us. The owner was really sweet and sent our table over a round of blueberry kamikaze shots which were absolutely delicious. Highly recommend this place.

My friends and I had dinner at Biagio last night. There were 7 of us. 5 if us got chicken parm. I had the Oreicette pasta which was delicious!! I also had a taste of the chicken parmesan which I thought was very good as well. The red sangria was the best I have ever tried!! Our waitress Kim was very attentive. We had ordered a carafe for the sangria and she brought us over a plate of fruit, lemon, cherries, blueberries, oranges to add to the sangria. The bread sticks were yummy and very fresh and served with red bean puree and oil, Mmmmm! Prices might be a little high for Waltham but I thought it was worth it. The atmosphere was very nice! We did not get up to the roof deck though, next time!

Biagio... mmm. nice place. The funniest thing is feeling the whole place shake every 45 minutes or so, every time the commuter rails comes by. They have an outdoor deck upstairs but sometimes there is only one person taking care of the entire area which is about 7 tables and one kind of living room. Prices are average for Moody St standards The menu is 50% 50% the rest of the stuff. The do have raw bar and the seafood is really good. One of the owners was actually telling me and my friends that they were thinking about getting rid of it because it's not so much business for them. I hope they don't. The wine list is vast and they also have a couple of bars, one downstairs and one upstairs. I'd recommend to reserver before showing up. They do have parking in the back and elevator for accessibility. Try the seafood casserole. Ask them to add some vodka and Pernod to it.

Had high hopes for Biagio when it opened, because of the roof deck and Waltham needed a good mid-range Italian place (Campania and Il Capriccio are great but pricey). While the roof deck is a nice setting, unfortunately as other folks have mentioned, the smoking really ruins it. Last time I was up there there were two men smoking cigars and the roof deck is pretty small so it just stank up the whole place. Also, the place seemed overrun with eurotrash types. Disappointing, and probably won't go again anytime soon.

i feel guilty for not writing a review sooner. My husband and I go here 2-3 times a month, and it's where we bring all of our out-of-town guests. The food is always delicious and the service is great. The staff is always friendly and courteous, and the atmosphere is warm, although sometimes they do dim the lights a little too low. I love their Gnocchi and the Gavi wine they serve, and they have a great chocolate mousse dessert. Worth every penny!

Visited Biagio with my wife and two older daughters, 20 and 16. We arrived Saturday evening slightly before 7PM without reservations and were seated immediately on the 2nd floor patio which was our preference. The patio was nice--overlooking the river on a nice summer evening. Service was slow, but not terrible. The salads, beet/ goat cheese and pear/walnut were tasty, but wilted from too much dressing and perhaps sitting unrefrigerated too long before serving. We waited over an hour between finishing our salads and being served our main courses. Our server never stopped by to advise us of any problem or apologize for the delay. Upon arrival of the main courses, the rissoto was returned to the kitchen being cold. It was returned quite hot ,but the constancy of old oatmeal. The Parmesan cheese crisp which it was served upon was rubbery and tasteless. At the conclusion of our meal, I asked for it to be removed from our bill--it was that bad. We don't go out often as a family, and Biagio was quite disappointing. In the future my wife and I will stick to the consistent service and quality of the two top Italian restaurants in Watham.

I'm slightly disappointed in Biagio after dining their on 2 separate occasions. Recently, I ate dinner there with my family and was not impressed. I got the clams casino for an appetizer and was really disappointed. To be fair, I tend to compare it to the clams casino that I usually get down the Cape, so this might not exactly be a fair comparison. If you haven't had clams casino before, then you probably won't find an issue with it, but I tend to be picky since I've been fortunate to eat the best of the best of clams casino. My mother also ordered a glass of white wine, and we had to try not to chuckle in surprise as the waitress filled up the glass only 1/4 of the way. For an entree, I ordered the bolognese and found it to be somewhat flavorless, even after I took the leftovers home and tried to add some salt and garlic pepper to it. For the money you pay for everything, I expected some much higher quality food than what we got. My mother got the chicken saltimbocca which didn't even come with a side. For the price you pay for a dish, you should at least get 1 or 2 sides that come with it instead of having to order them separately and pay extra. On the other hand, the dessert was just amazing. I got the peanut butter and oreo ice cream cake and it is a peanut butter-lover's dream. I'm not even much of a peanut butter fan and found myself scarfing down the entire slice in one sitting. My parents both got salads and loved them, not to mention that the portions were large. Anyhow, the bottom line is that you could probably find better if you do some searching around.

This place was great. I'm very surprised by the other reviews which seem to say the food is not that good. I got their special of the day, which was a seafood risotto. I also sampled my husband's pasta dish and thought it was very good. I also got a strawberry mojito which I thought was good.

once upon a time a watertown girl wanted Italian food so bad that it hurt. thoughts of mozzarella and eggplants and pasta and mozzarella and tomatoes and white wine sauce and mozzarella danced though her head as she searched for Italian restaurants on yelp. casa mia came up with rave reviews. then watertown girl called the number and the lady answered "biagio's", and she was confused. "is this not casa mia?" "oh, it's under the same management." reservations were made. so the watertown girl and her prince charming drove to the address. casa mia was closed. they drove around waltham looking for the new restaurant. sub shops were entered, directions were asked, biagio's was found. "lady on the phone, what happened? you didn't tell me the address changed as well!" "oh, yeah - it's a different restaurant." "well, it had the same phone number, how would i know the address changed?" "well, it's a totally a different restaurant." "oh." watertown girl and her prince charming sat down and waited. waiters passed them. managers looked right a them. the water pourer poured water for the table next to them, looked at watertown girl and walked away. watertown girl was angry! she wanted Italian, she wanted water, she had to drive around waltham to find her Italian food and water! this sucked. dinner picked up from there. the waiter came by, food was brought out quickly, drinks were served, water was poured. then we got free desserts because we waited, which put smile on our faces. we are so easily bought. even though the place was really nice and easy to get to, the food just wasn't that good. my mushroom ravioli was more like pirogi, and the mushroom sauce was all button mushrooms and oil. if it were up to me, i would have mixed up the mushrooms outside the ravioli (crimini, oyster, whatever) and cut back on the truffle oil. i was palate full before i was tummy full. josh's shrimp scampi needed salt and was very greasy. nice ambiance, nervous but earnest waiter, but i won't be back.

Had a pretty pleasant meal here, first-time patron, party of 6, ~$500. On a slow week-night. Maybe 2.5 stars would be closer. Bread was not present at start and when it came was cold and kinda boring (I mean, Bertucci's does this perfectly), although the garlic oil and cold pureed pepper + white bean dips were perfectly fine. Fried calamari however was real poor --- overcooked, and with breading so tight and uniform it was like frozen --- and its aioli was bland; altogether surprising disappointment. Other appetizers were all reported by party members to be good or better, e.g., eggplant bracciolettini and pizzettas. (There are more red-sauce dishes here than one might expect, a nod to the clientele perhaps.) Main courses varied but not excessively. Salmon, veal quasi-bolognese, and veal parm were all reported v good, while my chicken Statler was drumstick-less (just a plain boneless breast, good quality / flavor and perfectly barbecued tasty skin, and with a superb reduced dark sauce). By far the best choice this round seemed to be a fig-mascarpone pasta dish, which hit the higher-quality level some of us expected of everything else. Clearly the head chef is savvy and skilled in several respects. Service was fine, all aspects. A medium-priced dolcetto was a tad thin, but a v expensive 5yo barolo was seriously nice, solid and dark. Cannoli and tiramisu were exemplary. Prices overall felt on the high side, but that's the way of the world, with this night's quality perhaps not quite up to the pricing. Suggest sticking with announced daily specials, the fancier pasta / sauce choices, and be sure to stay away from that below-bar-grade calamari unless they majorly improve it.

I was very impressed by Biagio. The space is comfortable and bright, the service overall was good, and the food was great. The bar seems like a great place to watch a game and have a few cocktails. We had a reservation for four people at 7PM on a Saturday, and the place was busy. However, there were several empty tables and it took a few minutes for us to be seated. Not too long though, and well within an acceptable wait time ( less than 10 minutes). I was apprehensive about the service after reading other yelp reviews, and the seeming scarcity of staff we witnessed set expectations for a bad service experience. DESPITE the under staffing, the service was good. Our waiter was great, but we had to wait a little longer for drinks and water than you would in similar places. The menu is diverse and features a lot of local sea food. We will be coming back to try other stuff on the menu. Almost everything comes with the house gnocchi. Cocktails here are excellent. A must order if you go here. We ordered the antipasto and caprese salads, veal parm, the halibut special, and the shrimp scampi. Antipasto and Cabrese salads: Both excellent. Right sized, not too small, not huge, and the ingredient quality was excellent. The other reviewers complaining about the quality of the meats are off-base. The breads and accompanying dips were great too. Our meals came a few minutes after we were done with the first courses, perfect timing for enjoying the meal. Every order came out hot and done perfectly. The halibut special was fantastic. Other tables near us had the risotto and the veal chop special, which they were raving about. We ordered desserts that were good for a place like this, but not fantastic. A very nice dining experience that could have been great with more staffing. Bottom line is the food is great.

I was pleasantly surprised by this place. The food was well priced and delicious. Our waitress was extremely patient as my girlfriends and I gabbed it up. There is an outdoor roof deck that serves drinks and apps (no dinner entrees). Plenty of parking behind the restaurant. Well worth checking it out.

Had an enjoyable experience at Biagio's. Their fish is fresh and brought in daily, so for my entree I went for the Ciopino. It was great, but agree that is was a bit pricey. They have a pretty good wine list and great ambiance, which provides a great alternative to dining in Boston.

The bar was very nice and seems like it would be a great place for just a drink & appetizer as well as dinner. The dining room was OK, pretty typical Italian decor. The food was relatively simple: I had the Linguine alle Vongole and my husband had the Orrechiette with Vodka Sauce, both of which are fairly basic dishes but they were done very well. The portions were more than adequate without being overwhelming. I thought the waitress we had was a little inexperienced and the restaurant seemed a little more upscale than her skills, but there were no glaring problems. The wine list had a nice selection but I have to admit that the little mini decanters that they use take away from the suspense of getting a really good pour from a friendly bartender!

OK, when you have hardwood floors in the dining room I get nervous. And not because I don't like it or think it's pretty...I am afraid of falling. I mean this. Try teetering around in stilettos on a freshly polished hardwood floor and for the unskilled this could mean certain death. Thankfully, I am an experience professional (stop laughing, I can hear you and NO I am not an exotic dancer) and I made it safely to my table. Anyway, on to my review. The decor was a warm orange, red, and brown. Very inviting and cozy. I had a signature martini to start. It was tasty but a little too strong for my taste. I really like to enjoy my martini and this one was so strong that I had to take it very slow. Dinner was exceptional. Pasta tasted homemade and I love a good risotto. I wasn't sure what to expect from a spot in Waltham, but it really did rival the North end in price, quality, and service. Our server was friendly and patient with our questions. It really was a great experience, but it was a cold Thursday night. I want to come back in the warmer months and sit rooftop!

The food was really good, but I don't think it was worth the price we paid for it. A meal for two people with a glass of wine came to over $100.

I went here with a friend on a Wednesday evening. It took ages until a waiter came and in the meantime, the owner came by and introduced himself and apologized for the wait. He also took the opportunity to tell us about upcoming events they were having, and it was just a bit weird. The food was nothing special, and definitely too expensive for what it was. My friend and I shared an eggplant appetizer, which was fine, though I hadn't thought the eggplant would be fried from the description in the menu. I had the house pizza, with pesto, cheese, onions and some pancetta, but it was nothing exceptional. The waiter recommended we try the seafood next time, saying the chef had fresh seafood brought in each day. I might have done so, but the seafood entrees had seemed very expensive for what they were and the waiter had not mentioned any prices on the specials, so I was a bit hesitant to order any of them, either. Oh, and then while we were eating the owner had a side dish of meatballs (!!) sent over because of the wait. Not a place I would really go back to.

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
