My husband and I recently discovered this gem. We have retuned a few times and have not been disappointed. Everything we have tried so far has been exceptional. Outstanding service and a warm inviting atmosphere. This will be on our list of favorites.

One of Salem's best kept secrets! I've eaten here a dozen times. The service is impeccable...every time. The servers and owners are passionate about their food and it shows with their knowledge and ability to explain each dish. I've never had a bad meal here-delicious dishes and a great wine list!

This place is Awesome! Ordered the Gnocchi which the owner ( was also our waiter and kinda hot) recommended and it was wonderful. So going back again soon.

Intimate, delicious, incredibly charming and attentive service. I don't get down to Salem often, but I would consider making the 90 minute drive just to eat here again.

Our original destination was Scosso in the Northshore Mall (first time) but when we walked up to the door, a note on the door said the restaurant was closed and to check their website for updates so we're not sure what happened there? We logged on to YELP and found this wonderful restaurant. Thank you YELPERS for steering us here. It was a very short drive (3.5 miles or so) from the mall to this very quaint restaurant. We called before arriving to confirm they were open and we did not require reservations. The gentleman who answered was very warm and inviting, no reservation required. We were immediately greeted by a very nice gentleman with a heavy italian accent. He ended up being our primary waiter and was very attentive but not overbearing .... as were all of the other servers. We started with the Antipasto which included 3 different italian meats and cheeses. Neither the hubby nor I prefer olives so they kindly surprised us with marinated mushrooms in lieu of the olives... which I loved. Complimentary bread and oil for dipping was also served. The bread was very fresh and the dipping oil, flavorful and excellent! We aren't wine connoisseurs so stuck with just plain ol' water. They had many interesting seafood specials but I had my heart set on risotto so ordered the shrimp & summer vegetable risotto. My other half ordered gnocchi in a pesto cream sauce. Both arrived piping hot and the risotto was the BEST I've ever had. Loaded with shrimp and fresh summer vegetables (squash, red onions, carrots, asparagus, beans) and the broth/sauce was so flavorful, rice, perfect! My hubby's gnocchi was very tender and the sauce, amazing. Risotto portion was very generous, the gnocchi a very fair amount as well. We were offered dessert but given the appetizer and generous portions, we declined. Maybe next time. Our total check came to $51, not including tip which is a VERY fair price for such a fabulous meal. The restaurant is quite small (maybe 12 or so tables, seating maybe 40 people) so I imagine they can be very busy during peak times. You can't beat the service, everyone who works here was so friendly and attentive nor can you beat the quality. We'll definitely be back! Can't wait to try additional dishes!

It really is as Good as It Gets!!! I recommend this restaurant to anyone. My boyfriend and I just celebrated our birthdays at Firenze Trattoria. I am a Salem Business owner and my boyfriend is a Seasoned Chef. He is one of the most non-fun person to go to dinner with because he is so scrutinizing when he goes out to eat. He definitely gave 10 Thumbs Up!!! He loved it!!! Everything tasted amazing and the service was impeccable. Definitely a destination to visit when you are visiting Salem. Thanks again. This is a preliminary review since they only opened last week and we have only been once. But what a great first showing! The food and service were both impeccable. Friendly but non-intrusive servers had just the right timing and were able to answer all our questions (where are the clams from? Is the pasta made fresh?). When they were working on our espresso, they proactively came to apologize that it was taking so long, and they refilled our wine glasses while we waited. Classy. Every part of the meal was delicious. We started with the burrata appetizer, which was incredibly smooth and seasoned just right. It came with glorious tomatoes, basil, balsamic, and evoo. We then had the gnocchi Gorgonzola and the special spaghetti with clams. The sauces, flavors, and portions were spot-on. The ambiance is nice--cozy and inviting. It's a perfect addition to the neighborhood and we're excited to go back!

Great atmosphere, friendly staff and owner! A lot of thought and effort was put into the food! Would recommend to anyone visiting the area! Would return ourselves!

WoW- what a great addition to the Salem restaurant scene. My husband and I stopped in around 8:30 last night and were warmly greeted by the owner and wait staff. The restaurant is small and cozy with a dozen or so tables. We ordered a nice bottle of Montepulciano while we were exploring the menu. We opted to split the burrata (how can you go wrong with mozzarella & cream!) - which was a nice softball sized piece of cheese w/ a grilled crostini layered over the top and a delicate layer of oil sopping up the flavors. For entrees we split had the rigatoni - perfectly prepared with a light cream meat sauce and also ordered the steak balsamico - the steak was perfectly seared and sliced with a wonderful sauce - the plate was exceptional with some roast potatoes and a selection of seasonal vegetables. We were able to chat with the owner a bit - he is super personable and it's clear he is passionate about providing high quality, great tasting food in a warm and comfortable setting. We cannot wait to go back and take our friends with us!

If you're looking for an overpriced, noisy Italian restaurant where you have to catch the waiter's attention, then go somewhere else! However, if you are looking for outstanding, fresh and uniquely created food with a Tuscan flair that is served by friendly and warm staff, then this is the place! The Algerian brothers that manage Firenze Trattoria came to America via Florence, Italy (hence, the name)...and WOW, did they ever pick up great skills in how to run a quality restaurant along the way! You will feel at home in this small, yet romantic restaurant as you soak in all the fabulous flavors that Firenze Trattoria brings out in their foods. We were so impressed with our meal and service, we invited Andi (our server and one of the owners) to sit down with us, chat and share a glass of wine. This is the kind of place it is...where you feel that you are dining among friends. We've found our new favorite restaurant and can't wait for our next visit!

Our dinner at Firenze Trattoria Saturday night was easily as good as any I've had in Italy. Our host was so warm and genuine that we immediately felt like regulars despite it being our first visit. Our appetizer of crostini misto and burratta caprese were fabulous. The crunchy grilled bread was adorned with a variety of toppings including tangy olive and walnut pesto, sausage, wild mushrooms. Since it is pretty much the most delicious food created that is not chocolate, the fresh burratta was dreamy with firm, fresh tomatoes, olive oil and top quality balsamic. My entree of cabonara di mare was a swoon-worthy plate of fresh pasta , smoked salmon, and pancetta held together in a sauce of cream, cheese and egg yolk. My husband's tagliatelle al ragu bolognese was a hearty, generous offering of perfectly al dente pasta with meaty, rich bolognese. Even the tiramisu - which has now become so ubiquitous I half expect to see it on a stick when the ice cream man's truck pulls up - was so fresh, so well executed that it felt new and was delicious. The restaurant is small, but not loud and the staff is lovely. They were helpful, attentive, but never overly solicitous. I can't wait to go back!

Came by for Restaurant Week and really enjoyed ourselves. The bruschetta w/ burrata was my favorite but the gnocchi was also light and delicious. The portions were quite large for being part of a prix fixe menu, so we were happy to have some extra to take home. The service at Firenze Trattoria is excellent. Friendly, calm and attentive without being over the top. Courses came out at a nice pace and my water was always full without even noticing someone stopping by. Just a note - they do not accept reservations as they are a small restaurant. I would imagine it would be a bit crowded on the weekend, but we had not trouble on a Monday night. They are closed on Sundays.

After spending the day in Salem, my husband and I decided to have a nice dinner in Salem. After reading the reviews, we decided to try out this Italian restaurant and were not disappointed. We started out with the summer stew as an appetizer. It consisted of tomato and basil base with bread added to give it a thick consistency. Never tasted anything like this and loved it. Next course was risotto with seafood and mussels with wine sauce. The rice was delicious and cooked perfectly with a generous amount of fresh shrimp, scallops, and mussels. Amazing.... The mussels with wine sauce were very tasty and fresh, as well. The staff were friendly and very attentive. My only regret is that we don't live closer so we could go there more often.

My wife and I tried Firenze this evening for the first time. The staff was very pleasant and they made us feel welcome. The server knew the food well and did a great job of explaining the items. Throughout the evening the service was very good and we never felt rushed. We started by sharing the appetizer special. A soup made with leeks and chick pea purée and finish with shrimp and scallop pieces. It sounds unusual but tastes incredible. It was balanced and tasted very fresh. The seafood paired very well with the leek flavor and the chick peas gave it a silky texture. Gnocchi is a favorite of my wife but it was served in a Gorgonzola sauce, not something she likes. No problem, the waiter said they could serve the gnocchi in a simple tomato sauce. It was very good. I went for the florentine sausage with white beans. It was delicious. The sausage is made in house and has great flavor. The beans are cooked perfectly and have a very nice light sauce. We finished with a perfect tiramisu and cappuccino's. This is a great addition to Salem. The prices are moderate considering the quality of the food and the limited seating gives the chef enough time to turn out great dishes.

A few weeks ago my wife , sister and I went here for dinner. It was for the sake of brevity SUPERB. The service was terrific and attentive, but not at all pestering as you often encounter in many places these days. Everything was homemade, top quality ingredients, a terrific wine selection and good atmosphere.... the two brothers who ran a place in Tuscany for 18 years know their craft.

Phenomenal restaurant all around. My grandfather and I had a wonderful dinner here. The owner was so personable and genuine, the food was delicious, and the waitstaff was attentive and friendly. When our waiter listed the desserts (all fruit and vanilla-based) I casually mentioned to my grandfather that I was looking for something with chocolate. The waiter went back into the kitchen and next thing I know the chef himself is standing at my table proposing a chocolate-based dessert that he had the ingredients to make. It was delicious, naturally. I was so impressed by the the staff's consideration and willingness to go above and beyond what was expected. I highly recommend this restaurant; Definitely my new favorite place.

Wow. I loved this place. We were immediately welcomed (and I do mean welcomed) by a man who I think was the owner. He put us at a nice little spot and made sure we were okay with it. He was charming, friendly, and very welcoming. The ambiance was clean and cozy. The space itself is smaller, but it just added to the charm. Even the street the restaurant is on added to the cozy feel, being a small winding street in downtown Salem. The food was phenomenal. I had the chicken dish with peppers, spinach, and potatoes and it was filling and utterly delicious. We had cannoli for dessert which have just a hint of orange. They were quite good as well. I will 100% be going back- just a great overall experience.

We had been wanting to try Firenze for quite a while, but finally got there this past Friday and we were extremely impressed with both the food and the service. TLDR: The last place we had Italian food this great was Italy (and that includes the North End). The food at Firenze was delicious, high quality, and fresh. The atmosphere was bustling, but still cozy. there are large windows at the front which were open to the night air. The owner of the establishment was extremely welcoming from the start and our servers were attentive without being overbearing. We started out with a carafe of the house Pinot Grecio and it was high quality with a fair price. We skipped appetizers and decided to have the bread and oil provided which was fresh and delicious. My husband ordered the Salmon Carbonara and I ordered the Rose Ravioli. We both literally wiped our plates clean! I can't say enough about how delicious the entrees were. Dessert was equally great. We tried the canolis which had perfect texture and a slight orange flavor. They were unique and memorable. We really enjoyed our dinner. To top it off, my husband forgot his credit card and our waiter literally ran down the street to get us and give it back. All in all it was a perfect meal and we will absolutely be back!

We tried this place last night for my wife's birthday on the strength of the previous reviews here and we were not disappointed. Go here if you want a relaxed environment with friendly, knowledgeable staff, and food that the kitchen obviously cares a lot about. The host took care of us throughout dinner, making us feel welcomed from the moment we walked in the door. He was especially helpful to our friend who has several food allergies. He was able to steer her to a few things she could eat and she was thrilled. We never felt rushed and were often encouraged to relax and enjoy the food and wine. The menu is small and everything is prepared perfectly. I'd prefer this to a large menu where everything is just average. At the end of the night, he overheard it was my wife's birthday and brought over a dessert with a candle for her. And for our friend with the food allergies, they very thoughtfully brought her over a bowl of fresh blueberries to enjoy. I hope this place enjoys a lot of success because we definitely plan to be back.

This is by far the most authentic Tuscan place in Massachusetts. Delicious food and wine and great service. My hubby and I have been there several times and have brought our friends and family too. I can tell that we have tried pretty much every thing on their menu. Their pastas are all to die for, although we always order a portion of the gorgonzola gnocchi. The fegato is soft and flavorful, the steak perfectly cooked. We have also tried many of their specials and the verdict is always the same: superb! The service is attentive and never intrusive or overwhelming. The servers are knowledgable about the food and the wine list, but most importantly very friendly and nice. There are hundreds of places in Greater Boston that pretend to be Italian - Firenze Trattoria is THE REAL one.

Had an EPIC dinner last night! Every single aspect of our experience deserves 5 stars! Came in before 6 pm on Saturday night and the place was already filling up. The space is small but somehow they manage not to make you feel crammed in. Even though we were sitting close to another couple, we had a sense of privacy. All the staff is extremely attentive without being over the top. One of the owners (Andi sp?) runs the front of the house beautifully! He is super friendly and genuine! Our server was on the top of her game - my wine and water glass was never empty, and that makes me very happy! Food was INCREDIBLE!!!! Perfectly seasoned, fresh, impeccably timed between courses, so we could take a breather and not feel rushed. I have to eat gluten free and I had plenty of choices straight off the menu. My hubby and I started with the Antipasti plate - very generous hunks of 3 different cheeses, meats and delicious olives. Primi: - Risotto with fresh vegetables and seafood - Rigatoni with sausage Secondi: -Branzini - whole Mediterranean sea bass served with roasted veggies - I died and went to heaven, so delicious!!! - Lamb shank - hubby loved it!!! Portions were very generous and yes, we ate ALL of the food! :-) We will definitely be back on the regular! Love this place!

Phenomenal dinner!!! Started off with the burratta caprese app, then with the linguine cabonara - pasta not made in house but from a shop in Everett which is made fresh daily - finished with bread pudding dessert. Everything was cooked to perfection and I enjoyed every single bite! I can't not believe this place is in Salem! I would expect this quality from a restaurant in Boston. I will definitely be back and will recommend this to anyone. Got here around 6p Saturday night, was not full but by the time we left it was full. Very inviting and man who I assume was owner ran after us on way out to thank us and make sure we enjoyed everything! Thanks so much Firenze!!

Only went once. I eat out very often in Salem and although I've only been here once, this is now in the running for favorite. I will update this review as I go but the tomato stew followed by a squid and octopus in tomato sauce on bucatini pasta was extraordinary. Nice selection of wines. One suggestion: the table bread could have been nicer - but who cares. This was wonderful.

Let's cut to the chase. I've eaten at a few high-end Italian restaurants over the years. A friend recommended for my wife and I to try out Firenze. We went on Saturday evening around 7:30. Called for a reservation but was informed that it was not busy and could walk in. Usually when this occurs, I get concerned. Most high-end places a reservation is necessary. While the service was decent, I was not impressed with the food, starting with the bread! It was stale and hard. Gross! The olive oil for dipping had balsamic vinegar already added. Gross! I ordered a salad from the menu. I believe it was a special since I didn't see it on the menu listed via their website. Well, it was oily and lacked dressing. I don't think it had been tossed because the Parmesan was on the bottom of the plate. Actually, stuck to the plate. Moving on to the main course I ordered the $22 salmon steak. It was cooked perfectly however felt it was over seasoned! Ugh! My wife ordered Linguine and clams. It was also very over seasoned and lacked pasta! Oh no! To say the least we skipped desert paid and went on our way. We may give Firenze another chance. But may bring it to their attention next time if we're not happy. Especially the bread.

Ambience, staff, food, and wine were all delicious. Wine-brased beef and cheese nocchi were great. Crostini apps delightful. Tiramisu, the best I've ever had. The service was magnificent. The owner made us feel like we were at his home. One of the great restaurants on the north shore!!!

Florence-style Trattoria in Salem, MA What a treasure. Tonight, we dines at Firenze Trattoria in Salem. It was an extraordinary experience that included a beautiful restaurant that had the feel of Florence, a charming host/owner, very attentive staff, and outstanding food. We arrived and were greeted by one of the owners who could not have been more charming or attentive. We were with another couple, and the owner was very focused on our conversation and made sure not even to approach the table to tell us about the specials until we reached a break. The menu was interesting (and one we plan on exploring quickly). However, the fish special (a fresh trout roasted with garlic and herbs) sounded so good that 3 of us ordered it. The one hold-out ordered a meatloaf. We stared with a very simple but fresh salad. The dressing was clean and bright. We thought the star of the meal was the trout. As the owner suggested, we should eat it with the skin. It was just delicious. I wish I had better words to describe the taste. To show the service, one of our friends did not want the head still on the fish. When her dish arrived with the head still intact, the owner quickly saw it, removed the fish, and had it back on the table in maybe a minute at most. We're pretty sure the meatloaf was very good - we were just focused on the trout! As I said, we thought the star of the meal was the fish. However, then we decided to split a desert between the four of us. It was a bread pudding. I don't really recall what type. And it was like no bread pudding I'd ever had. It was more of a custard, and it was insanely delicious. If the fish was #1, then the desert was #1b. Even the espresso felt like Italy. While I had to ask for it, the lemon rind came immediately and was the perfect end of the meal. I can't say enough about Firenze. It is authentic and our goal is to go through the menu.

Truly great meal. Linguini with mussels and clams was perfect as was the panne cotta. The servers and the owner did a wonderful job -- everyone was so kind and attentive.

Incredibly friendly wait staff, awesome host (who I believe is the owner) and killer food. It's nice to see a great, small, North End style Italian restaurant come to Salem. The owner personally greeted us and explained each dish with great detail. You know the food will be good when the owner is so hands on. We had a pasta with sweet sausage and for desert, a Panna cotta with a berry reduction. Excellent. We'll be back soon and highly recommend it.

This place is AMAZING, almost so good I didn't want to share it for fear of others finding out. The waitstaff is extremely attentive without being overbearing and it feels like you are talking to an old friend even on your first visit. The food is FRESH and prepared with the same detail you would expect from a much pricier establishment in the north end. If (when) you return they will remember you and what you ordered last time. Overall a great dining experience and arguably some of the best food in Salem.

  • Andy S.

Great food and friendly wait staff. We had mussels for appetizer then the tilapia and pork chop both were great. As for desserts, originally we only tried the tiramisu but it was so good that we just had to try the panna cotta and we were impressed on how good they were.. definitely will come back..

This restaurant and it's owners are wonderful. At the last minute, on a Friday night, the restaurant was able to seat our party of 11 as though it had been arranged weeks before. Everything was possible and nothing was a problem. I had the rigatoni and sausage and loved it and the vanilla bread pudding was amazing. The restaurant is quaint and the service was friendly. You will have a lovely time there.

Salem has been lacking good Italian food for so long it's nice to finally have someplace authentic to go. Being Italian, and traveling to Italy many times, I'm very particular about Italian food. I had heard good things about Firenze, so expectations were high. I was not disappointed. The place has a wonderful atmosphere, great service, and a terrific meal. It's small, cozy and is everything you'd expect from a non-corporate, family owned restaurant. My wife had the grilled orata, which is a whole sea bream exquisitely grilled that was lightly salted, and very flavorful. I had the rotini di mare, which was traditional Italian rotini with scallops, shrimp, and mussels. The pasta was cooked to perfection, the seafood perfectly proportioned, and the sauce was delicate and not oily like most places. The ribollita was tasty and hearty. It was by far the best I've had since eating it in Florence. Two brothers own the place, one is chef and the other, Andi, works the front of house, so they are attentive to every dish that goes out. Andi was very cordial and took the time to check in on every table to see how they were doing. He was very nice, but not overbearing, which is refreshing in an era of poor service. I hate to give Firenze such a good review because I don't want them to get too busy, but I do want to see them succeed. Forget every other Italian place in Salem, this is THE place in Salem for good Italian food, and quite possibly on the entire North Shore. You won't be disappointed.

I'm very perturbed and annoyed by anyone who would review this place poorly (I.e. Pete S). Clearly, he has limited experience with high quality dining. Trattoria Firenze is exceptional from the quality of the food to the presentation, service and hospitality. Everything is delicious, including their wine selection. It is tough to pick something from the menu, as all the choices are amazing. The owner goes around to every table to speak to each and every customer and make sure their meals and dining experience are satisfactory. Try to name a restaurant these days that promotes this type of generosity and customer service. I am impressed every time I come here and will continue to go back :)

An absolutely amazing experience. Above-and-beyond hospitality. I ordered the Linguine alla Carbonara, which is an egg yolk sauce with pecorino, with pancetta and smoked salmon. The pancetta was smoking and crispy, the sauce creamy without being heavy or too rich, and the smoked salmon added a different smokiness that ensures your taste buds won't be bored. My mom ordered the special- Linguine with Cod, in a light olive oil and garlic sauce with just a touch of tomato. This is not the typical heavy, acidic tomato sauce you get elsewhere. This is a light sauce that is just thick enough to coat the cod and pasta. The cod was cooked perfectly- flaky and fresh. Be sure not to fill up on too much bread before the meal- you'll want to use the bread to clean every last bit of sauce from the plate when the pasta is gone. For dessert we got a panna cotta with a raspberry sauce and cannolis. I'm not usually a fan of cheesy desserts, but this is different. The panna cotta was so light and airy. The cannolis had a hint of citrus and a very crunchy shell. But the think that makes this spectacular restaurant stand out even more is the hospitality. I won't call it service, because you will be treated like you are an honored guest in someone's home. The owner, Andy (I think?), came to check on us right after we ordered, asking if we were in a rush, and showing a consideration that we don't see elsewhere. He also spoke about the food with such passion and enjoyment to a food tour that everyone was enraptured. The staff at Firenze are in love with the food, and after eating there, you will be too!

  • Ryan P.

Always a good meal. I usually go with the specials and I've never been disappointed. The staff is fantastic as well, always going a little above and beyond. Andy will even open a bottle of wine to serve just one glass if it pairs with your meal. Firenze is definitely well deserving of these reviews.

We chose to come here because it received great reviews, it lives up to the hype! Best Italian restaurant I have been to since the North End. We went there tonight for restaurant week and we were very happy with our experience. The restaurant is very snug, we were sitting very close to the tables next to us but it was a great atmosphere. The service was excellent, the owner came to our table a couple of times to see if we were enjoying our meal. I will definitely go back there very soon!!

Tonight I had a tasteless sald that consisted of chunks of romaine, radicchio, cucumbers and tomatoes. Not tasty, not refined, not a good introduction to a new restaurant.i noticed that other diners had much better looking salads. I should have complained on the spot but did not, so I am doing so now. My pasta dish was good so my meal was 1/2 and 1/2. But, how can you ruin a salad?

We were heading to the Witch Dungeon Museum and was passing by this restaurant. We stopped to read the menu in the window. The owner came out to talk with us. He asked if we wanted to come in for lunch. He was very friendly and kind. We let him know we would be back for dinner. We did go back for dinner, the owner greeted us right away. He asked where we wished to sit. We selected a little table off by ourselves. It is a charming little place, with a romantic feel. The menu is small, which I prefer. We started with two antipasti. The crostini and tomato soup. The tomato soup has an Italian name which I cannot remember. Both were delicious. The crostini were all different. My favorite the olive and walnut. The flavors not so overwhelming where it ruins your taste buds for anything else. There were 5 in all, each better than the other. Also served with cheese slices. The tomato soup was divine. I have never tasted anything so good. Eat that with the crusty glorious Italian bread, and make it a meal. I wish I could cook this well. The tomato flavor front and center, the basil just a side note. If you try anything, try this dish. The next course was pasta, we shared one dish, the rigatoni, with pancetta, and pepperocino. The rigatoni was the perfect al dente, the sauce had a little bite. The pancetta crispy. A must try. The entrees, we had the strip steak balsamico and my DH had the special of spaghetti and clams. A steak so tender there is no need for a knife. The seasoning and balsamic perfection. The DH ate every bit of the spaghetti and clams. Clams so fresh, Us Las Vegan's do not get back in sin city. This is one of the best meals we have ever had, if it came to chose a last meal, this would be it for me. I hope to get back to this wonderful restaurant again someday.

We went out for an early dinner and were pleasantly surprised to be seated right away. We shared the shrimp and chickpea appetizer. It was more of a soup than a purée, but yummy. I had the chicken baked in tomato sauce with burrata, a delicious creamy mozzarella. The tomato sauce was the best sauce I have had in a while. We will be back. They did not have a liquor license, but I overheard the waiter tell people they have been approved for one and will be able to serve soon (I did't catch the exact day, but it sounded imminent)

Visiting Salem with a friend and decided to stop in for a nice italian meal on a cold night. So glad we did! The moment we walked in we were greeted like we were family and the setting is warm and cozy. The restaurant is fairly small, which gives it that cozy, but also almost exclusive feel. The host, who is also the head waiter, couldn't be more charming and caring. The menu has a good selection. We shared the caprese, freshest mozzarella i have ever had and ive had a lot, delish! The gnocchi was perfect texture, not too thick or chewy as some can be, and came with a fabulous light creamy sauce. The tiramisu and the flourless chocklate cake also both amazing. The portions are just right. The house wine is very good. I can't wait to go back. I just hope this place doesn't catch on too quickly so i don't have to wait too long :)

After spending a month in Italy last year, including a good amount of time in Florence, I was craving some good Italian. Although pasta is the stereotypical food that everyone talks about, and it is awesome, Florence is also known for their grilling! I took that into consideration when I ordered. I got a greasy and delicious cut of meat that ruined one of my favorite shirts. Was it worth it? No. But I do reflect fondly upon this meal right now. Service was so-so, probably because we went right when they opened. I'd like to go back and try again.

Our first meal at Firenze Trattoria last night was memorable. The food was authentic, delicious, and lovingly presented. The gnocchi and homemade sausage were simply amazing, as were the simple flavors of the grilled pork chop and vegetables. The service was impeccable and gracious-- attentive and detailed, yet unobtrusive. We've visited both of Salem's nicer Italian restaurants numerous times in the past -- Bella Verona and The Adriatic. Both feature decent food (the Adriatic boasts a more cosmopolitan and Americanized menu compared to Bella Verona's), but both have louder, more bustling atmospheres. Dining at Firenze, you get the impression that there's personal concern and attention placed on your entire dining experience, from the quality of the food preparation and its visual presentation, through the attention and care placed on the customer. Firenze Trattoria's outstanding service and quiet atmosphere, combined with its authentic and well-prepared fare, sets it apart as the better local option for an intimate and exceptional Italian dining experience. Driving home after dinner, we discussed what we wanted to order the next time we visit. Yes, we'll definitely be coming back!

Simply outstanding! As resident foodies, we hoped to discover a great restaurant nearby our new home on the North Shore- and this is it! Outstanding service, fresh ingredients, imaginative pairings as well as solid traditional old-world dishes - this spot cannot be beat! The bucatini is one of my many favorite dishes that showcases what happens when simplicity meets refinement- enjoy!

Delicious! Being a Salem resident, it is surprising that I had not yet been here. I went with my friend who is a professional chef. I always follow her recommendations for dinner choices. We started with the beet salad and the burrata to share. So great to share the appetizers to round out the many flavors! For my main course, I chose the risotto with mushroom and asparagus. So amazing. My friends chose the ravioli, which at first look, sounded plain, yet, the red sauce was incredibly fragrant and flavorful. This is a hidden gem in Salem. Worth the visit.

Given that I haven't been to every Italian Italian restaurant - and haven't been to Italy - take what I'm about to say with a grain of salt. This is, quite possibly, the best Italian food I have ever had. The only place I can think of that compares is the FAR more expensive Del Posto (Lidia Bastianich and Mario Batali's place) in New York City. Yes, friends, it's that good. I've been a few times now and, I'll admit it, after reading so many of the glowing reviews, my expectations were sky-high. Not fair, but that's how it goes. Luckily for me, I hadn't set the bar high enough because the team at Firenze cleared it with miles to spare. Literally every single item I've had - pasta, salads, desserts - has been so perfectly prepared that I've viewed the clean plate as a tragedy and had to be restrained from full-on licking the bowl. But it gets better. My wife is gluten-free so Italian food can be a challenge. One word to the waiter about her allergy was all it took for us to get a detailed explanation of what she could/couldn't eat and how they could modify things to ensure she had the food she wanted. It was clearly something they care deeply about and, as a customer, that goes a long way with me. So much love for this place!

Firenze's output and demeanor is beyond words. They're friendly, intimate, knowledgeable and the food is.... well, it's perfection. We've visited 5 times (thus, time for a Yelp review) over the last year and every single aspect of our experience, every single time, deserves a 5 star rating. We've had pastas and meats and veggies and fish - easily working our way through the menu and reminding ourselves that although the dishes we've had were exceptional and we want them again and again, we should try something new because something new has yet to let us down on the awesome scale. Their wine list is divine and the owners are accommodating and genuine (and handsome with an accent doesn't hurt!!) The location is small (seats about 35-40) - but I love that about it. It's romantic but relaxed, quiet enough for conversation but not so quiet that you hear everyone else's. My water glass never crept close to empty but I didn't notice it ever being refilled - that's how good their staff is on their tippy toes. Dress up or come casual - it's a lovely place that we can't wait to return to time and again. Cheers, Firenze!

Best food all around! I would deff rate it an absolute 10. Magnificent food and delicious at its finest. Highly suggest the grilled Bronzino and the linguine w/ mussels, clams, & oysters. A soothing cappuccino to end the meal with the finest deserts for the finishing touch, the pana cotta & the cannoli. Best in Salem hands down!!!!!

I had pretty high expectations based on the Yelp reviews I'd read, but Firenze definitely delivered. We were a party of six but two of us showed up well before everyone else -- the staff were very gracious and welcoming and moved together some tables and seated us without even asking when we were expecting everyone else. The food was superb! Best eggplant parmigiana I've had in a while - not greasy or overly breaded - delicious! People in our party ordered a whole bunch of different dishes including the whole trout, grilled calamari, tripe, liver, and gnocchi, and everything was really tasty and clearly truly made from scratch. One of the staff noticed my mom had a card on the table and asked her out of earshot if we were celebrating a birthday, and then proceeded to bring me a heavenly bread pudding with salted caramel sauce with a candle in it on the house! Thankfully other people had room to order the other two dessert options as well -- both the tiramisu and the chocolate mousse were amazing! I'd been searching for a while for real Italian food on the North Shore -- so happy there's no need to look any further. Will definitely be looking for excuses to go back before my birthday next year!

Absolutely Fabulous; felt as though we were back in Florence...no need to elaborate on any of the selections; all were so spectacular...although, you might want to have the carbonara; exceptional. The owners, also brothers, being from Florence, Italy, create a special experience in dining! Wonderful addition to Salem....and a great place to dine with friends, as we did....

Fantastic. Went here after visiting P.E.M with friends. got there early, lucky because the line was down the block to get in as we were leaving. They don't take reservations but worth the wait. Homemade pastas, delicious fish dishes and yummy bread pudding. Food and service were wonderful. Small and intimate. Attentive waitstaff. Good Italian wine list and very reasonable prices for the quality of food. A little neighborhood gem.

Another amazing meal at this little gem of a restaurant in Salem. I was one of its first customers when it first opened. I can't even count the number of times that we've eaten there. I've never had a meal that wasn't wonderful. How Andi and Zamir can consistently delivers meals that are absolutely delicious continues to amaze me. Keep up my friends.

The service was excellent. Always checking in, refilling waters and very pleasant. The food was by far better than the most expensive places in the north end. I shared the antipasto with the table which was super yummy. The bread they served was perfectly crusty. My dinner was the chicken and burrata. It was amazing and I don't usually order chicken when I'm out. Also tried a bite of the pork chop (mmmm), the pasta with sausage (amazing sauce) and steak (melt in your mouth). Everything was cooked perfectly. Anything on the menu is worth ordering. I will certainly be back!

Just as good as the first time I tried it if not better. Seafood dishes are always stand outs. Super fresh and cooked perfectly. I've discovered some of my new favorite wines here and the best part is easily the awesome service/friendliness of everyone who works here.

This may be my favorite restaurant of all time. Amazing food, wonderful service...Andi and Zamir have done such a wonderful job with this establishment. I've been here many times and never leave disappointed. My favorites include the Linguini with Clams, Gnocchi and of course their house made Tiramisu. The Chianti is also great and they offer such generous pours! I can't say enough good things about this place. Bravo!

I love this restaurant definitely my top any of the gnocchi is the way to go pesto or meat sauce! Andi and his brother are the owners and they are both amazing Andy is so kind and really obviously cares about his work, and his brother is the best chef i have been able to enjoy the food of! I would highly recommend the restaurant to anyone with love for real Italian cuisine.

This place is great! Came here on a Thursday night with some friends. I ordered one of their sea bass specials (delicious), one friend ordered the carbonara (looked awesome), and the kitchen was able to create a custom seafood pasta dish for the third friend (again, looked great). We ordered a burrata appetizer (highly recommend!) and coffee after dinner. The service was amazing! We unintentionally ended up "camping" at our table for about 1 to 1.5 hours after dinner and our server was super kind about it. Can't recommend this place enough!

This review is long overdue! My husband and I can't get enough of this place. The food is amazing and seriously gets better every time (if that's even possible). Everyone who works there goes above and beyond to make sure your experience there is nothing short of amazing. They don't take reservations but I would stand in line for an hour just for the Carbonara alone! Great wine menu as well! This is definitely a hidden gem in Salem and I'm so glad we found it!

This was our first visit to this small but delicious restaurant. We had high expectations given the reviews and our experiences in the North End and internationally. We started with the Burrata and Eggplant which did not disappoint. My husband had the carbonara and I had the gnocchi. The gnocchi was outstanding - i am very picky and hate the ones that sit like rocks in your stomach preferring instead the light pillows. Carbonara to! was small bit appropriate given the richness of the dish. We had dessert which were asp appropriately sized and yummy. Overall a quaint and reasonably priced hole in the wall restaurant we would gladly return to!

I am shocked by the negative review(s) but I'm sure every place has a bad day. Firenze is legit Italian with an authentic menu, fresh ingredients, diversity and great flavors in every bite. My wife and I are foodies and VERY particular about our Italian. We are in another local Italian joint 2x every week but this could take one of those nights easily. Great wine parings, small menu reinforces the intimacy of the experience. HIGHLY personalized service without being obnoxious. My only knock is how small this place is and getting a table can be tough at times - but doesn't that speak volumes to its goodness.

Great Italian place that goes well beyond the stereotypical red sauce stuff. Plenty of non-pasta fare, prepared well, in a cute little space. Very much enjoyed the Crostini with different toppings, and a mixed grill dish with sausage. Beer and wine is the booze story. House choices are available by the carafe or half carafe. Not the cheapest place around, but definitely a good value for the quality. I look forward to many happy returns.

First time dining at Firenze tonight. Well done Chef Zamir and staff (Beth and Ricky were both great). Highly recommend the gorgonzola gnocchi, but everything was great. Special red wine of the night (Monte Falco) was fantastic too. And... Thank you for not having a TV screen!

My BF and I went here a couple Saturday nights ago. We were greeted by a man who seems like he's straight from Italy. I was very excited since it's got a 5 star yelp rating. We only had to wait 5 minutes. It's a small place with very close tables; we could hear the conversations on both sides of our table. One table was pissed that their food was taking so long and the other was mad that whatever wine they got was terrible. We waited about an hour and a half for two pasta dishes to arrive. The staff didn't seem to realize just how long it was taking. It was almost amusing. The meals were decent but nothing amazing. I went here solely because of the Yelp rating. I don't get it. I wouldn't go back. As always, my recommendation for Italian continues to be Antique Table in Lynn. No one can beat it.

Delicious North End style italian restaurant in Salem, MA. This gem is tucked away off of Washington Street near the commuter rail. I had the tilapia special which was outstanding and cooked to perfection. The waiters were very attentive. Our glasses were never empty for long. We sat in the front in one of the two seaters. My only complaint is that in a mostly empty restuarant on a Thursday night they squeezed all of the couples in together while there were plenty of four seaters empty in the remainder of the restaurant. We were there for quite some time and it was odd feeling crowded in a 2/3 empty venue. Other than that the food and service were outstanding and we would come back, maybe with a group of four next time! :)

Enjoyed a lovely dinner here last evening.........Not too crowded as it was Monday....We enjoyed having lots of space to become acquainted with the layout. Food was excellent, ambiance most enjoyable & our server was attentive, fun, knowing, Italian & handsome!....A perfect time!

I rarely post reviews, but i have been very impressed by the consistent food quality and hospitality at this restaurant. The first time we went there, my girlfriend and i kept commenting on everything that makes this place stand out. From the Italian music in the background, to the outstanding delicious food, presentation, atmosphere, knowledgeable and courteous staff, and wine selection. Our waiter spoke to us in fluent Italian, since both him and the chef had lived and got trained in Italy. We have gone there a couple more times since then, and the service and food was consistently great. They recognize us now, and we feel special every time we step in... What a gem of a restaurant!!

This place is expensive but worth every penny. I love their menu- everything is top quality and cooked to perfection. Their pork chop is mouthwatering good, and their pasta with the sausage and tomato cream sauce will have you coming back again for more. You will not be disappointed.

the place is a little hidden but it's quite nice. it's small but efficiently designed and well maintained. we got there at 5pm on a Sat but when we were leaving at 6:30ish it was starting to fill in. the owner warmly greeted us right away. before seating us he notified us that due to their seasonal alcohol license they can't serve it at the time (March '14). it was fine b/c we weren't looking for any but i appreciated it b/c most places would wait til you're seated and settled in to break the news. that's good business. we got the passato di Ceci ($9) for an appetizer. it's a slightly creamy chick pea and leek soup with shrimp. it was very good. we also got the orecchiette Buongust (pasta with bits of sausage and beacon, $16) and the tilapia with potatoes and olives special ($19). the olives that came with the dish were particularly fresh. everything was good and it wasn't salty like many italian restaurants. only complaint is that the portion was a little small and the meat pieces were a little on the thin side. the service was friendly and the place well designed. the food is freshly made so it takes slightly longer to make but you'll like the finish work. i recommend the place.

I was FINALLY able to try Firenze last Thursday after drooling over their menu for awhile and I really wanted to fall in love with it but I just didn't. Don't get me wrong the food was good, it just didn't live up to my expectations. The place was extremely cute and quaint and the staff was incredible. Ricky, one of the staff, came over and gladly shared a story about his pen when my dads girlfriend complimented it. We started off with the tomato stew which was tasty but not as warm as I would've liked it. Alone the consistency was a little strange but after requesting some bread and topping it on the bread I really enjoyed it. The arugula salad tasted fresh but could've used a little more flavor with the vinegar. I ordered linguine alla carbonara with salmon and it was extremely tasty but the linguine had a strange texture in my mouth that made it a tiny less enjoyable to eat. My dads girlfriend thoroughly enjoyed her salmon steak though and my dad seemed as if he liked his pork chops. I really want to love this place so I will be back again.

Bellissimo! Complimenti a Andreas, nostra cameriera e chef! From Crostini Misti and Burrata Caprese appetizers to main courses, this was a birthday celebration to remember. Simple and fresh ingredients, decor, ambience, the chef and staff speak to Andreas' desire to bring a taste of Florence to Salem MA. Not to be missed and we'll be back again... and again...!

Oh where do I start with this place?! Ah yes; here's a story. I was sitting at a table near a young couple who were dining there. At one point, the guy calls the server to the table and asks: "Hey, I know I'm eating a roasted potato, and I see that the roasted potato has only salt and rosemary, ...but how the hell do you guys make it taste so damn delicious?!" -- and that was only for the roast potato. I'm not even gonna comment about the actual food. This is our favorite Italian restaurant in the greater Boston area. Both my wife and I have been in Italy several times, and if you're looking for a true Italian place, this is it! This place is truly a small trattoria. I think there's about 8-9 tables total (so if you're a big group, call ahead. The crostini misti are my wife's favorite. My wife loves the olive paste one, while my favorites are the chicken liver pate and the spinach and sweet italian sausage ones. The grilled fish, sea bass (branzino), is probably the best I've ever had in the area. Grilled to perfection with kosher salt, olive oil and rosemary. Last time the chef also made a seafood pasta with a sauce so delicious, that I basically wiped the plate clean with whatever bread was left -- they didn't need a dishwasher! One caveat: If you're definition of Italian food is "pasta and meatballs" or "chicken Milanese", this is NOT your place. The North End is where you'll get what you're looking for. But, if you want an authentic Italian experience, this place is it in the greater Boston area.

Honestly, as an experienced diner, I would rather eat at Olive Garden. At least Olive Garden is honest about being a non-authentic but halfway decent restaurant cheerfully serving imitation Italian food, in a sanitary environment. Trattoria Firenze in Salem, MA is an overpriced fake Italian restaurant. Two non-Italians who cooked in Italy for awhile and came to the USA to represent themselves as great chefs and restaurateurs. They are neither great chefs or great restauranteurs. The front of the house is jammed, noisy, with slow service. The kitchen is mediocre at best and not as good as Olive Garden, which is at least consistent. The ingredients here are cheap and second rate. This restaurant is a "flash in the pan" phenomenon that packs them in because they undercut price, with low quality ingredients and inexperienced service. They will not survive the winter, without the tourists.

The bf and I tried Firenze for Valentine's Day. I was a little skeptical that we would get a table when they weren't taking reservations, but it all worked out okay. We arrived around 5:30 and were seated immediately. There ended up being a wait around 6 pm for others, but that is to be expected and it didn't seem to be a long wait. The downside is that there really is no space to wait, so some people were waiting outside in the snow and every time the door opened the diners were cold as well. Don't see any way that this could be improved given the space though... We grabbed a 1/2 carafe of the house Chianti, which was light, but flavorful. A basket of bread was delivered and the bread was soft and fresh. We ordered the Burrata Caprese to start based on all the yelp reviews. It was good, but nothing mind blowing. Although, the couple next to us ordered the antipasto and it looked amazing. I was quite envious, so that may have skewed my overall feelings towards the Burrata. For meals, I ordered the ravioli, the bf had the gorgonzola gnocchi. Both were excellent. The sauces were very flavorful and enjoyable. We also ended up splitting the tiramisu for dessert. I'm not typically a huge tiramisu fan, but this was excellent. Overall, the food was really good. Service was great. It's a little pricey, but worth it when you're in the mood to splurge.

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
