I give this two stars for the very disappointing service. Food was decent but the staff behavior was surprisingly unfriendly- no smiles and very unaccommodating. When I walked in, a group of hostesses/wait staff was chatting (but saw me) and didn't come over to seat me until a minute went by-- apparently the story one of them was telling was more important. Then I requested to sit near the window instead of in the middle of the whole dining room and was told that I couldn't because they were only 4-person tables. That's all the explanation I got, from an stone-faced hostess. OK, this is the off season and there were probably 6 people eating at the moment, leaving the dining room 95% empty, and they were only open another hour. I decided to order to go, and when my meal arrived I went up to where two staff were and asked why I wasn't allowed to change tables since the place was empty. They said that there is always a huge rush 15 minutes from when I came in and no tables would be available. Fine- that's a little hard to believe but then why wasn't I told that in the first place? Where was the: "I'm sorry, we have to reserve those tables for our lunch rush which is in 15 minutes." With a smile. How hard is that? I got no apology, just a patronizing brush off. I'd say with an empty restaurant customer service should be the easiest thing to do right, and they fell woefully flat.

Napi's has a great atmosphere-- very quirky and one of a kind decorations with a pub-ish type feel to it. It looked like there were two floors when we went. We ordered the vegetable stir fry and the crab cakes. Both were mediocre tasting, but definitely not bad, though we have had better. The price is reasonable. We were very glad that it was one of the few restaurants open during the winter season when we visited Napi's in early March.

My partner and I stopped into Napi's for lunch during the off season. Our waiter was very friendly and propt. My partner took a picture of her clam chowder because she felt she needed to document how many clams were in it! The vegetarian minestrone soup was delicious! My partner had lobster which was good and my black bean burrito was wonderful and enough for two meals (I ordered the sauce that comes on top on the side and was happy I did so)! We'll definitely be back again before we head home!

Was in town for ten days last month. Went three times. Wasn't disappointed a single time. Little known benefit - they have a large parking lot. Sortof hidden,, to the side of the restaurant. Food as always was outstanding. The Brazilian shrimp are a standout. Service is impeccable. Many of their wait staff are career waiters, which makes a huge difference. Creme brulee was terrific. Bloody Mary's are some of the best in town (although the dive bar Governor Bradford gives them a run for their money on this). Decor is eclectic without being fussy or obviously intentionally so.

Love this place. Cozy with an eclectic flare. Antiques decorate the environment without being overwhelming. Great, quality food, attentive service. Went with a party of 15. Everyone was happy.

Poor service, mediocre food. And no excuse for either. What more can be said? I was in Provincetown off season (mid November) to visit a friend who's a resident. She suggested Napi's for lunch. It wasn't busy -- maybe six or eight tables for two servers. Even so, we were placed at an akward table, with a pole between us, near the entrance to the room. There were plenty of better tables but somewho, we didn't rate. The interior is beautiful -- stained glass, quirky artifacts -- but it's tough to appreciate when the servers decide that you're not worth a decent seat. They had specials, and so wary of resort-town off-season food, I figured I'd be safe with a special. I ordered the crab cakes. My companion (who has allergies) went for the seared cod with rice because it lacked possible irritants. The menu description was pretty clear: cod cooked in butter. The cod is almost the most expensive thing on the menu. The crab cakes are upper half. We were spending decent money. Before ordering, it took the server forever to get back to us. When he did, I was afraid to ask too many questions because I didn't know when he'd return to finally take our order. And then the second wait began. It took a long time for the food. How many cooks? Who knows, but it's not like there were a lot of customers. Finally, our food came. The crab cakes were dark dark brown, as if overcooked. Doughy, too, but edible. The cole slaw was almost tasteless. No zing. No vinegar or spices. And served in a tight little cup squeezed on the small plate crowded with fries, ketchup, crab cakes, and the oddest, yuckiest tartar sauce I've ever tasted. The base was thin, like melted sour cream? It wasn't mayo. There were chunks of what looked and tasted like cut up pickles, not relish. The idea with relish is that the small bits create a new taste sensation, related to but unlike pickles. In this case, the tartar sauce was chunks of pickles dipped in a thin white sauce. Ew. The cakes were edible. And memorable for being part of a thoughtless meal presented thoughtlessly. My companion's dish was served on a tight little plate, too. A green salad, a clump of rice, and a small white fish filet covered in a chunky tomato-y green pepper concoction with a very thin clear liquid running all over the plate, including into the salad. She immediately said, uh, what's this? We both knew it didn't resemble what she'd ordered. The server said, "I told them it wasn't right." And took it back. Note: the server knew it was wrong but served it anyway. Where does that pressure come from? Management? It must. It then took at least as long for her to get a replacement meal as it did the first time around, which is to say, a long long time. I tried to eat slow, but I was almost finished by the time her meal came. The new meal matched the menu, but it was ordinary, and accompanied by the irritation of waiting and having to correct the order. And there was no offer to comp or even apology for the screwed up service/order. And not one refill of my water in the meantime. I finally had to wave both arms over my head vigorously to another server to get her attention to get some water. When she finally acknowledged me, she said, incredulously, "Are you waving to me?" Yes, I said, we haven't seen our server in ages. When he did walk by our table (he had to, we were near the entrance), he assiduously avoided eye contact. If you've read this far, yeah, mediocre food and bad service. The inside is quaint and kinda cool. I might go back for a drink at the bar but I wouldn't go for the food or the attitude.

Two stars because half our large party did enjoy their food. I was one of the other half who thought it thoroughly sucked. The menu was dull and uninteresting and I ended up just getting soup and two apps because while the list of entrees was pretty extensive (and possibly encouraged decision paralysis from too many choices) none of them seemed very appealing. The clam chowder was OK but bland and salt didn't help much. The "Chinese dumplings" were hard, dry, unflavored lumps of chicken wrapped in wonton skins and fried. They were hot and crisp, but I couldn't eat more than one what with that revolting chicken tumor in it. My other app was Lobster Rangoon, which appeared to contain nothing but cream cheese. Again, I could not eat more than one. So, yeah, sucks. Four other diners didn't eat even half their food because later during the ensuing bitchfest they admitted that it was of so little interest that there was no point in eating any more than necessary to satiate. I sent the apps back and it was taken off the (large) bill. The server seemed surprised, but there's only so many nice ways to say "this is terrible, and I'm not eating it nor paying for it." I guess my co-diners weren't in as crabby of a mood as I was because nobody else sent anything back. I wish they'd had because maybe someone would get the message. The server was overworked and seemed very distracted. The table was badly positioned for a large party and not only were we ducking as plates were passed over our heads, I also got bopped in the back of mine by an errant plate. I had to ask to turn off the ceiling fan that was blasting freezing air from the AC right over our food, so nothing stayed hot for long. Lastly, while I know P-town is in general a huge in-your-face rip-off, the prices here were inexcusable. Our entrees the next night at the Patio Grill were no cheaper, but the food was far, far better as was the service.

SEATING Winter time, between meals. The restaurant is empty, not surprisingly, considering that there are only a few tables occupied even in the busiest hours. P-Town is almost deserted during the cold season. So, we ask for a table by the window (there were three of them). The waitress/host flatly refused, by saying that they were for parties of four. (The logic would want the tables for two to be located by the window - assuming decor and romantic views could add up to the dining experience - while parties of more people are more inclined if not obliged to engage in conversations rather than contemplating the views. But this is another topic.) The imaginary customers never arrived and the tables remained empty until we left, proving what we had predicted and said from the very beginning. BAR It looked like a cool place to spend some time with a friend, either drinking or eating. But I have yet to try it. FOOD We started with the clam chowder. Cape Cod is famous for it and this one in Napi's was presented as a award-winner by the menu. What e disappointment, it revealed itself to be! We have tried several versions of this dish in the Cape and P-town and some were better than the others, but this one was the worst of them all. It was just bad. Pieces of uncooked onions were floating in a watery-consistence chowder. The bouillabaisse was excellent. This one is highly recommended and is the one that upgrades Napi's to 2 stars with a potential for more.

I visited P-town for a weekend. I'm from NYC, and I dine out a lot. I was traveling with my sister, husband and two children. Upon being seated my son received a kid's menu. He turned it over and looked it up and down. He placed it down quietly and said, I don't think they want kids here. What, I said, and took the menu from him and looked at it. On the back there was a printed letter addressed to "Parents of small children." In the letter they stated they often get asked if they are a "family friendly" restaurant and the rest of the letter detailed awful behavior by children. Basically the letter informed us they didn't want our business. I, as well as anyone else, can't stand poor behavior in children at restaurants. However, I also can't stand poor behavior in teens, adults, or seniors either. How dare their missive single out one age group to put down? Imagine if I ran a restaurant and passed out a letter detailing all the annoying issues I've encountered with seniors. I've never seen something so rude and offensive in my life. I am a foodie and dine out every week in the city and I've never seen crap like that dished out to paying customers. We dropped a few dollars for the server and left without ordering.

this was the place that I was anticipating going to the most on our trip to Provincetown because they seemed to have a lot of vegetarian/vegan options. Their menu is pretty extensive and they seem to be really popular. I ordered some tofu dish and it was about average. It came with an apple chutney that was very good, though. I would just give this place an average rating. I would recommend it but not at the top of my list of recommendations.

I go to Napi's everytime I go to Ptown. Although I've never eaten any of the meat entrees, everyone I've gone with loved them. I have tried most things on the vegetarian menu and there is a reason I keep going back, the food is awesome! The atmosphere is great too - very eclectic. Something to look at in every direction (including the other patrons!)

So what do you do when you're visiting Provincetown in the middle of winter and seemingly every restaurant on Commercial Street is closed? It's probably no surprise then that we ended up at Napi's with its warm, slightly bizarre interior and its large familiar menu. Napi's actually feels like a genuine place where the wait staff seem to have known each other a long time and get along well. When we weren't digging into the calamari appetizer (familiar but extremely good) or our entrees of delicious steamed lobster with rice pilaf, my partner and I would just look around the room and take in the stained glass windows, the disfigured brick mural, and the gargoyles mounted on the walls who leer down upon the diners. Somehow it actually all goes together and is certainly worth a visit. Our waiter-- David-- was an older gentleman who made us feel at home and was always helpful without being too intrusive.

I wasn't so sure about this place when it was recommended to me, but out of curiosity I decided to give it a chance. The decor inside and outside of the restaurant definitely made an impression on me, I liked the ambiance very much. I remember I had the russian oysters to start my meal that night, and it really took the deliciousness of the oysters to another refreshing level. Who would have thought cream cheese and caviar would be the appropriate garnish of oysters? Well think again, THEY WERE! For entree, I had the daily pasta special and got pasta (I forgot which type) with large grilled shrimps in spicy light cream sauce with broccoli. The flavor was again something I didn't expect, but it was a pleasant surprise for sure.

The food was very good here. pretty fast service. the bread with butter brought to the table a tad late would have been much better toasted :/. my friend and i split the Portuguese seafood platter which had a huge half of a lobster taila and lobster which was really good. they're dessert menu is good too. i recommend the tiramisu

OK, but not fantastic. Their clam chowder was chock full of clams, which was a nice surprise, but their broth lacked the thickness that makes a chowder a "chowdah". Not bad though. Their Portuguese soup was quite good. House salad was fine, but stick with the bleu cheese dressing, for their house dressing is terrible (you only get two choices). We ordered the striped bass, which was fresh, but the meals including the side dishes were cold. In fact, ICE cold. But the taste was decent. We informed the manager on the way out and we got the old "the kitchen was really slammed when you came." We arrived at 5:20 on a Tuesday. When a restaurant has a $16.00 minimum per person food policy, they should at least bring their dishes out warm. Just sayin'.

Food was ok but the waitress awful. Didnt bring neither wine list nor anything else to drink before the appetizer was already eaten. Very unpersonal and neglect serving, yet 18% gratitude was automatically included in the bill.

My wife and I stopped into Napi's for lunch and left wonderfully sated and happy :). The decor is eclectic/funky, as is the music!! The place is clean and cozy. The waitstaff is attentive and helpful. The whiting lunch special we had was coated deliciously, and the fish so fresh. It was an abundant portion!! We didn't try the clam chowder, but heard from someone that has, that it is AUTHENTIC.. light on cream, heavy on the clams!! We will definately hit Napi's again in June when we're back!!! :)

I used to favor this place beyond all others. However, and it makes me incredibly sad, it seems like the consistency of the food has gone down hill. It is still a nice place to get off the main drag of the town and find a comfortable, relaxed climate, but the food is neither outstanding or special. The service is slow, but that isnt bad and honestly in a place like this slow service is something that fits quite well. The chowder is a bit too watery for me, but the kale soup is really the star of this place. not much going for it, but the place does have its charm. I just feel like it needs a remake and a push, because, as a local, this really hasnt changed for a decade.

My very favorite restaurant in Provincetown! A wide and varied selection of entrees, appetizers, salads, etc.. Their Kale soup is the best anywhere and has won awards. Some delicious Portuguese dishes and seafood selections. Excellent and pleasant service, as well. I highly recommend Napi's - open year round!

Old- School Ptown Portuguese seafood restaurant. The service was great and the fish is fresh. I also love the bread which they serve at the table. The room is decorated very eclectically but I feel the restaurant could use a makeover. I had the breaded flounder which was fresh, but a little bit on the heavy side for me.

I"m going on at least 7 years of Napi's love, but I'm not biased. I just know awesome food when I taste it! Napi's is an eclectically decorated joint at the base of Provincetown's commercial district. The interior is warm and inviting, the service is always wonderful, and the food? Well, the food keeps me coming back year after year after year. The Russian Oysters were fresh, with just enough caviar to tingle the taste buds without overpowering the oyster below. The reason for walking through the door, however, is the Brazilian Shrimp. Large, succulent shrimp cooked to perfection in a garlic butter sauce, laid atop a bed of cilantro-lime rice, and accompanied by black beans and fried plantains. I will endure 27 mile traffic jams every single summer just for that meal alone! Typically I am interested in what my dining companions are eating, as I figure it's good to get a feel for the whole menu. At Napi's, I don't care. I go to my happy place and set about cleaning my plate. If it was socially acceptable to order two of the same entree, I would do it. I want that dish right now! The creme brulee was excellent as well - a nice way to wrap up a meal at one of my favorite restaurants on the Cape!

This wasn't a bad place but I don't think it was close to the what I consider exceptionally great seafood. The best part about this experience was our waiter who was very nice. I started with the clam chowder and it was way too oniony for me and the broth was too thin. There was a lot of clams in it though. I ordered the cod Provençal and it was fine. Cod was cooked perfectly, sauce was tasty, rice was fine but nothing that really made me jump for joy when I first tried it. My friends ordered the lobster, which she loved. My other friend got the shrimp and scallop piccata which she loved! It had a lot of scallops and shrimp. Another girl in our group got the fried haddock special. They really enjoyed their meals although the haddock had the aioli plopped on top whereas she would have preferred it on the side. Overall it was a good place for a seafood dinner. Our table was crammed and super close with another table, so I felt as though I couldn't really relax my body. We were not sure why we didn't get seated at another table with more room.

Definitely an essential part of any trip to Provincetown! The service is always pleasant and the food is consistently delicious. The decor is abundant and eclectic ensuring you see something new every time you look around the room. Prices are extremely fair and the menu has something for everyone - seafood, poultry, meat and tofu/veggies. Highly recommend reservations no matter what time of year it is. This may seem like a hidden gem but it's certainly no secret how great it is!

I've been coming here for as long as I can remember, I've never been even remotely disappointed. The food, atmosphere and staff are always tip top....reading negative reviews about this place makes me chuckle, I have a strong feeling that those ppl love the Olive Garden.

To start, I liked the clam chowder a lot because it was a little different. It was definitely tasty, and it had a lot of clams. I also tried the smoked salmon appetizer, and it was exactly as described, but with a lot more smoked salmon than I expected. I actually had one of the Early Bird dinner specials: the pan roasted cod. There were two cod filets, perfectly prepared. And, it came with a rice pilaf, fresh green beans, and some fresh butternut squash. There was also hot bread and butter. The presentation was simple, but the food tasted great. I was surprised at how inexpensive it was. I arrived at about 5:30 p.m., and the place was just starting to fill up, including many families with children. The dining rooms are attractive. The service was fast and efficient, and it did not drop off at all, even when the restaurant was full.

Not impressed. When we got there we had to wait five minutes while manager was on the phone. We didn't get any acknowledgement that we were even standing right there. Then we get a table right next to a table with loud children horsing around. And there was no one else in the restaurant! The next group that came in he offered them a choice of any table they wanted. While eating the staff put three tables together, then dismantled the tables. Five minutes later they did the same thing again - right next to us! Not a pleasant meal. The food wasn't anything special either. All in all not worth the trip.

In the mood for something a little decadent, I went for the filet with melted Brie. Done perfectly to rare-medium rare, the filet melted in the mouth and the Brie added a rich creamy overlay that blended beautifully without overpowering. The only discordant note on the plate was the mashed potatoes. While more than acceptable in flavor and texture, they were obviously plopped on the plate via ice cream scoop, making an otherwise elegant meal look like it had come off the school cafeteria assembly line. The service was friendly and efficient. I arrived without a reservation on Memorial Day weekend and the restaurant was busy with a full reservation book. The host took the time to find me a place at the bar, immediately clearing the detritus from the departing customer himself so I could sit down right away. From start to finish, the service was great, especially for such a busy night. The decor is eclectic and commentary on it alone could carry the dinner conversation. Overall, the ambiance is energetic but not obnoxiously loud. Reservations are definitely recommended, especially during the high season and weekends.

Delightful experience. We arrived late in evening, but were not rushed at all. Enjoyed the calamari - crispy, tender and sweet. Beet and goat cheese salad on arugula was sensational, Raye had Portuguese soup, and I had the clam chowder, soup was best home made tasted in for ever! Clam chowder was loaded with clams, and creamy but not thick, had the pleasure of meeting and talking with Napi as well, we'll be back!

We had a nice dinner but found a bit overpriced for the appetizers. The shrimp cocktail was $12.95 and was supposed to receive 3 jumbo shrimp. I work in the food business and the shrimp were not jumbo. They were served in a huge "martini" type of glass. They were not jumbo and looked even smaller in the huge glass.

We went to Napi's for their generous vegetarian section for a date night while we are in town. THe service was transactional, the food was mediocre at best -- and far to expensive for what it was. We ordered pot stickers to start and they came out not cooked fully. of course we realized this after we each took a bit...waiter took them back, clearly just microwaved the remaining three and brought them back. The ones from trader joes are much better. dinner was not better -- had the currey veggie dish and it tasted like frozen veggies. I would not recommend this place to anyone. we both left disappointed and shocked a place this bad could be so packed with people

Great meal in a beautiful, eclectic setting. The decor is a cool mashup of paintings, statuary, stained glass, carousel ponies and greenery with twinkle lights. All meals come with house made brown bread piping hot from the oven. We ordered off the daily specials. Our appetizer was good if not amazing - lobster Rangoon with Thai chili sauce. It was a nice upgrade to the traditional version. We both had a cup of clam chowder which is truly exceptional. Very simple recipe allows the natural sweetness of the clams to be the star of the show. For entrees hubby had pan seared halibut and I had Maine lobster tail with sea scallops. Both entrees were excellent featuring fresh seafood prepared simply and in a way that allowed the flavors to shine thru. We shared a strawberry banana Napoleon for dessert. Velvety custard in puff pastry with fresh strawberries and bananas with a chocolate drizzle. Yummy and very shareable. Overall a great meal in a lovely setting with warm, friendly, competent service

Something bad is happening at Napi's. I can't understand how this renowned eatery has gone from great to mediocre in just two years since I ate their last time. Beware of pricing on "off menu" offerings. I suspect Napi's greedy relatives are behind this. Poor Napi.

Wanting to go to a restaurant that serves Portuguese food, we dined here for dinner. I had the Portuguese soup as my starter and the Lobster special for my dinner. The Portuguese soup was good. It tasted like the Portuguese bean soup back home in Hawaii. The sausage made the flavor of the soup stand out. My lobster special was a cooked lobster served with butter. Compared to my friends Lobster in a Bouillabaise, the flavor could not compare. The lobster was a bit on the dry side and needed the butter to add moisture and flavor. The lobster in the Bouillabaise was excellent though. The flavor of the Bouillabaise shines due to the tang of the tomatoes. Very flavorful. A good dinner for my first of many nights of lobsters in Ptown.

I love this place. I ordered the Portuguese soup as an appetizer, and the Portuguese seafood bouillabaisse . The soup was a little bland. It was more used to the type of Portuguese bean soup that I grew up with in Hawaii that was brought over from the Portuguese from the Azores; which is spicy and a tomato base. This soup was white and not spicy. Though it was good. But the bouillabaisse was awesome. It had a whole lobster and clams, mussels, and sausage . So tasty. The broth was so very savory. I was so full after that meal. I would love to come back.

Best part of dinner was Napi stopping by our table and welcoming us and sharing the restaurants story. Next the waitress stops by to share the specials and provide a list of items they did not have (including 2 of their house specials). We came for burgers and they were out. We should have taken that as a queue but decided to try other items. One bowl of the Portuguese Soup (bland, too watery and cool). 2 people got the chicken parm plates and they were ok, decent portions. One for the veggie burrito and it was filled with what tasted steamed veggies from a bag. The place itself is funky but was surprised at the food. Lots of good places to eat in Provincetown

We visited between Christmas and New Years, 2014. The food and service were good, although several routine items on the menu were unavailable. The prices were higher than expected, too: Yelp's $$ rating is a little low. For example, a Napis hamburger cost $18. I had an excellent jerk chicken (about $25) and my date had a decent chicken parm (also about $25). Good beer list. Wine list was OK, but (like most wines in P'town) was aggressively marked up --- a glass of ordinary table wine was $8 or so. It was a good meal in a funky atmosphere, but there are lots of other options nearby.

I was counting the number of other patrons that got their appetizers and dinner before us then left. I had the breaded yellowtail which was more bread than fish. It came out cold because apparently the burrito my wife had takes a long time to cook. Probably why the bottom of it was over cooked. Don't bother if you're vegan or vegetarian, there are better place. All told it took us an hour and a half to get in and out and we were on time with our reservations.

Enjoyed the Early Bird dinner menu and a very tasty Chicken Parm (sauce was DELICIOUS). The clam chowder was very good. The broiled cod was cooked perfectly and was moist and flavorful. Attentive and professional staff. Good martinis. Overall, a wonderful dinner and just what we were looking for.

Food is just average or not even that good, lacks flavor and seems like everything was frozen and reheated. Desert is totally tasteless and looks like has been made 3 months ago. They have a 3 drink per person limit (and they don't tell you in advance). Don't come if you want to have fun with friends or if you have a reasonable palate

This is a solid restaurant with an eclectic menu and an equally eclectic décor. We have eaten here many times. We had dinner here the Saturday of Memorial Day weekend. It was our waiter's first night. We had reservations and were seated immediately, our drink order was taken and delivered promptly. We ordered the Greek plate appetizer and a salad for starters. Both were good. My wife got a stir fry and I had wild mushroom ravioli. Neither were stupendous, but they were tasty, well prepared dinners. The stir fry vegetables were cooked exactly right and the ravioli in a mushroom herb broth had a surprising depth of flavor. Our waiter did a great job. If he hadn't told us it was his first night we wouldn't have known. We met the owner/founder, Napi Van Derek, on the way out and complemented the cook and waiter. This is one of the very few restaurants in town open year-round and we love supporting it. It's a P'town institution.

One of my favorite places to eat when I lived on the Cape. Simple food and really nice bar. Loved the diverse menu and loved the old time ambiance. Usually ate there for lunch in the off season and there was a man with a white moustache who sat at the right end of the bar reading the paper and having a martini (or 2) with his lunch.

My husband and I had an early dinner at Napi's last night. We remembered it favorably from a visit several years ago. When we entered, I noticed immediately that we were the youngest people in the room. Let's just say that 50 is a fond memory for my husband. (I'm the spring chicken of this duo.) I became a touch worried. But he persisted, reminding me of the last time we'd been there. The waitress was peppy & enthusiastic about the menu. She delivered delicious bread & butter as we waited for our entrees. My husband had clam chowder & I had thE Portuguese kale soup soup. Both were fine. The the entrees arrived. You know you're in trouble when mashed potatoes arrive in the perfect mound of an ice cream scoop. Accompanying the mashed potato mound was a smaller scoop of something orange. It had a flavor reminiscent of a root vegetable-- squash? Rutabaga? Whichever, it was a tad on the watery side & after a few bites ( I was trying to like it) I was done with it. The pork dish, described as an authentic Portuguese entree, did live up to its promise of the flavors of cumin & coriander. The pork was tender. But the watery juices seemed more water than juice. My husband had scallops Florentine, which he enjoyed. Next time I'll get a lobster roll on the wharf.

This would have received four stars in past years, but this time, it seemed a bit lackluster. The vegetarian chili was hearty, but definitely overpriced and they did not seem to want to accommodate a request for a smaller portion, like a cup instead of a bowl. The service was prompt and courteous. I don't need someone to haul out extra hospitality on my behalf. I asked for water; they brought me water. I asked for a refill; I received one. I am sure to return because I always leave satisfied, but maybe more veggie lunch options would help restore my faith a bit.

I always seem to end up with the veggie burger every time I go there. Very tasty. Wait staff is extremely pleasant. The owners have assembled an amazing collection of local P'town art. Sneak up to the second floor dining room to see some of it on the walls.

This was our second time at Napi's. Every time we come to Provincetown we try to go to at least one new restaurant, but it is off-season and restaurant choices are limited, so we decided to go to Napi's again tonight. The outside of Napi's is fun and bohemian looking and speaks to the eclectic menu to be found with in, but both times I have walked inside I have had the same impression. "What have I gotten myself in to?" Though the bar is pretty with lots of interesting stained glass, the rest of the place looks just plain drab with bare wooden tables and chairs, and no particular décor of any kind. The tableware and barware is bland and boring. It looks like the kind of place my grandparent would frequent. But then the food comes to the table and I fall in love all over again. The food is spectacular, obviously made with great care by someone who takes great pride in his/her craft. You can taste the love and passion in every bite. We weren't sure what to drink and the waitress suggested a zinfandel blend called pro-misQ-ous. My husband and I both love zin, so we decided to get a bottle of that. I was not a big fan and found the wine a little bit overly sweet, but my husband loved it. We started with the scallop dumplings. They were sensational! They were more crispy than dumpling like, but the filling was loaded with sweet scallops. They were served over a bed of mixed greens and covered with a peanut/tamari sauce that was to die for. When we looked at the menu again to order our entrées, I was tempted to order another round of those dumplings instead. If I had to give Napi's one complaint other than the décor, I would say that the menu is just too varied. There are SO many things on the menu and so much variety. I always wonder how they can possibly offer so much variety with such great results! It took quite a while for us to decide. I ordered the Jewel In The Crown, which was a vegetarian curry dish featuring tofu, spinach, cauliflower and broccoli over brown rice with apple chutney on the side. Truly wonderful! I ate every single bite. The curry was perfectly seasoned. The tofu was cooked perfectly. (I had asked the waitress if they could make sure it had a sear on the outside and wasn't too squishy. The result was a nice crisp exterior with a smooth silky interior. Tofu done perfectly!) The veggies were cooked perfectly and had a good bite to them. My husband had the Santa Fe Shrimp, which he devoured. I joke with him all the time because he never finishes his plate, but tonight he sure did. The dish featured six huge grilled shrimp, rice and black beans with a spicy Pico de Gallo and a tempora battered fried banana. I tried a little bit of every component of the dish and was very impressed myself. We were too full for dessert, but they had some nice options on the menu. The service was good. We were seated right away (we had made a reservation) and the waitress was attentive. When we couldn't finish our bottle of wine, she cheerfully sealed it up for us to take home.

Favorite dinner on the Cape. Clam Chowder is consistently great, seafood dishes always cooked & seasoned to perfection. Great wait staff, free parking add to the experience, but the best thing about Napi's is the food.

If you are looking for good vegetarian food in Provincetown -- this is one of the best places I've found. Excellent vegetarian specials, a comfortable atmosphere, good service, and the best martinis.

Low quality fish and chips (oily). Unreasonably expensive food. Caesar salad's lettuce was extremely soggy. And the service was not friendly. A couple of hours after having the fish we are sick! But the clam chowder was arguably good! But definitely not award winning!

Provincetown's most unusual restaurant. Hard to find a restaurant open in March in Provincetown. Food was good. My dining companion got a seafood Alfredo dish that he raved about with very generous sized scallops. I ordered a mixed greens salad w/pears, blue cheese, pecans and an appetizer of tofu w/toasted coconut. Somewhat pricey, generous portions w/ enough to bring home for later in the night. Waitress was pleasant & efficient not overly friendly (but that's ok) We sat near the gas stove, it was nice and warm on a COLD March evening. Eclectic art work surrounds you. We were there around 5pm, only 3 other tables ere occupied, very slow time of year.

EXCELLENT! This was our second time going....this place is tucked a way a bit but worth the effort to find! Wide range of choices on the menu....from cocktails to desserts. Both visits everyone in our party raved about their meals and drinks. We were fortunate to have the same friendly, awesome waiter both times..."Dan". Will definitely request him next time we make reservations. This place is a must visit when in Ptown.

We loved this place, and we ended up here for 3 dinners and 2 lunches in a week. The Portuguese soup, porco em pau (only on the specials menu, but appears there often), macaroni and cheese, spinach and pear salad, and coconut crusted tofu were excellent. The pasta with mussels, beef stew, edemame potstickers, and desserts were not as special, but still fine. The porco em pau in particular was amazing, and very interesting. Sometimes you order dishes and it's the same old meat with a familiar sauce poured on top, but this was somehow very different from anything else we've ever eaten. Service was good, and we never got charged the sharing fee even though we shared a lot of dishes, probably because our order total was still reasonably high.

The food here wasn't horrible, but it wasn't great. I got the seared tuna salad. It was very bland and the tuna was over cooked. My wife got a pasta with clams and she did not like it at all. She said it was bland. The service was okay. Nothing to be remembered. And the atmosphere was very eclectic... and fun... It wasn't expensive but it wasn't cheap. I dont think I would go back or recommend it.

Came here on a recommendation from the man at PAMM. He told us the menu was large and everyone could find something here for a reasonable price for Ptown. That was true. We basically opened the place at 5:30 and sat right down. No beers on tap but most bottles were $4.50 and mixed drinks were $9. We shared the calamari app, perfectly cooked, and the edamame pot stickers, good as well. "A" had an incredible cup of the Portuguese soup. It was delicious but only 2 tiny pieces of meat. Her entrée was the vegetarian curry. The sauce was all coconut milk- definitely nothing "curry" about it. "A" asked for it to be extra spicy but it was completely bland without a hint of spice. She pretty much couldn't eat it. It's like the cook just opened a can of coconut milk, mixed it with some cream, and put it on top of the veggies, then added coconut shavings on top. It was 100% NOT any form of curry, and they should change the name of that dish so that other people don't expect a curry sauce. For his entrée "M" had the Brazilian Cod $25- locally caught cod with black bean salsa and rice. He loved it. This would have been a 4 star review if not for the awful vegetarian curry dish.

We ate here on several occasions for dinner during our stay in Provincetown and what I liked best about their eclectic menu was the extensive, creative, vegetarian options. Their mixed drinks were really good too.

Great place for vegan-dining! One of the few places in town that gave me options. Also, they have a great cocktail menu with experts behind the bar. Server Max is very attentive and knowledgeable about the menu options.

I can say that Napi's is one of those restaurants where you have a bite of the food, close your eyes and go, "mmmm....so good". Its exactly that feeling we got for all the food we tried here :) Definitely coming back here during my next trip to Ptown. I think its something to do with the place that our group of 4 ordered more food than we could ever digest - 3 appetizers, 3 entrees and 2 desserts. Gosh! And mind you, the entree portions are huge. The menu covers many different cuisines, but they seem to have chefs who master in every style of cuisine! :) :) Being a vegetarian, I cant really comment on all the food that we ordered. But my sea-food loving friends rated the sea-food as one of the best that they had ever tried! And this place makes the veggie lovers equally happy! For appetizers, we ordered Avocado spring rolls, calamari and crab cakes. The spring rolls just melt in your mouth! So crisp and smooth. My friends loved the other 2 appetizers, too. I didn't really pay attention to the exact names of the the seafood entrees. I think it was a sea food platter, and another entree made of lobsters. I ordered Penne Athene. It was the most flavorful pasta ever. The sauce and the Italian herbs had blended perfectly into the penne! When on vacation, eating\dining is one of the key factors which decide how well the vacation goes! And Napi's definitely made our vacation a memorable one. My friends and I loved this place - for its ambiance, its friendly service, and the delicious food!

Napi's was just ok. The atmosphere drew me in and I thought I was in for a real treat, but the food just didn't live up to the appearance of the place. The menu is absolutely all over the place. Asian, Italian, American, Vegan, Vegetarian... you can get it all here. And I don't think that's a good thing. I had just had a lot of snacks at a friend's house, so I wasn't super hungry. There was a $16 minimum food order per person (which I thought was fairly ludicrous), so I ordered two appetizers. I chose the lobster rangoon and the blackened tuna sashimi. The bread before the meal came out and looked fairly good until I realized that a piece of the bread was completely frozen... guess it's definitely not fresh baked... My food wasn't bad, but it didn't taste like I thought it would, if that makes any sense. The lobster rangoon had a weird sauce on it that really drowned out the flavor of the otherwise good rangoon, and the tuna sashimi was REALLY cold, as if it had possibly been frozen minutes before. My friend got the clams over linguine, and she said that sauce tasted very wine heavy... not the most pleasant thing in the world. It seems like P-Town has a pretty awesome culinary scene, so I would def skip this place next time.

12/29/2008 Napi's is one of the best resturants to visit when in the cape.. Huge selection of food. The staff is super nice and the quality of food is good for a vacation summer town. I will be back when i go back up there. Check out the property for all the cute kitties that they own...

Napi's is a regular stop when we're in Provincetown, so on our visit last summer, I was happy to find it was still as good as ever. The service couldn't have been better: polite, friendly, and attentive yet unobtrusive. The food, from the bread to the calamari to the bouillabaisse was exceptional. (This is the place for seafood.) Fun atmosphere. I love Napi's. When in P-Town, give Napi's a try. You won't regret it.

Truly disappointing. Probably if you're a vegetarian or a vegan it will be for you. But it wasn't for us! Went for lunch and hoped for seafood salad or something like that. Not even a possibility of adding seafood to a house salad! Chowder was bland, with little cream or butter in it so it was runny and filled with potatoes. Salad was small with few choices of dressings. My husband enjoyed his Cape Cod reuben which is creative. I didn't want to taste it as it looked awful. Not returning and would not recommend it. When on the Cape, this is not the place to go for local food!

not a few locals pointed to Napi's for a satisying meal and it was. had the portuguese seafood platter with half a lobster, big chunk of local cod, mussels & clams in chorizo-tomato broth. a friend had a generous mound of garlicky scallops provençal with pasta. both looked and tasted great, not crazy expensive either. in between bites, gawk at the riot of colors, obects and art on display. a mad mix of hippy, folksy, quirky and bizarre. describes Ptown?

    (4)
  • Jeremy D.

Claims to be the "most unusual restaurant" in Provincetown! I didn't find it to be THAT bizarre, but it was pretty unusual. Under its exposed rafters there was art from all over the world there, from African masks to stained glass windows, to random carousel horses. The menu also was pretty international. Course, you could get the Clam Chowder, which was tasty and really creamy (but all due to the clams, they don't put any flour in it) and meanwhile get, as I did, the Thai Vegetarian wrap which was quite good- filled with tofu, veggies, and peanut sauce (with an extra cup of peanut sauce for dipping). Also came with a package of Cape Cod potato chips. Another unusual thing about it- it's open the week after Thanksgiving when it seems nothing's open!

One of the best meal experiences: friendly service, delicious food, quirky interiors (African theme stood out most)! Listing the things we tried (among 4): Key lime pie & lava chocolate cake (I love desserts!) Portuguese seafood platter - so many items to taste and try, and so flavorful! It came with a side of rice and beans. 1/2 a lobster Shrimp Scampi - mmmm, shrimp! Penne Athene - excellent veggie option. Avocado spring roll Crabcakes Calamari - perfectly crisped! and warm bread! Yes, we somehow managed to finish most of it. If you're in P'town and want good seafood, head here.

What a wonderful secret! This cute restaurant is tucked away on a side street. In all my trips to P-town I have never found it before. Luckily my uncle visiting from Florida got a recommendation to go here from the Chamber of Commerce. We were not disappointed. The Bloody Mary's were the best I have ever had. My fried scallops were perfect, not greasy, with a very nice and light batter. My husband had the fried cod sandwich and it was excellent. The same light batter as my scallops and the piece of cod was thick and flaky. Our aunt had the lobster roll which was huge and lightly coated with mayo on the best roll. Our uncle had the vegetarian stir-fry which was excellent. This will definitely be the place for us to stop on our P-town visits from now on!

super cozy, casual, intimate, relaxing spot high up above the chaos of provincetown or... let's face it the sweet and sleepy off-season streets which is usually the only time i can get my family to willingly go to p town. otherwise it's just way too chaotic: my dad literally has a panic attack when we dare to go in the summer. anyway, this is my family's go to spot in provincetown. my dad loves the seafood, stepmom loves the lighter fare and the fact that it's been here for almost as long as she has. i like it because it's funkadelic. but i think the food is only worthy of 2.5-3 stars. i added a 4th star because it's a gem! pricey, but hey, this is provincetown!!

Went here for dinner while in P-Town for the weekend. Great service, food & atmosphere. I had the clam chowder, which was ridiculously good. And then had mussels for my meal .... my husband enjoyed his meal as well. It was a very warm, friendly place with lots of character. Also, the meal was well-priced. Would definitely return.

We make it a point to eat at Napi's every time we are in P-Town. I usually don't eat fish, but when our server told us that the fish was delivered that afternoon, I just couldn't pass it up. I'm so glad I made that choice. I got the seafood platter with lobster, cod, mussels and clams. It was so fresh that this huge plate of food came out and did not smell the least bit fishy...now that's fresh! This place never disappoints. I only wish they were open for lunch.

Okay, Napi, your 2-4-1 Thursday night deal got me off my duff and out on a frigid night. Always love the interior with unusual artifacts and stuff... But, even with one entree free, the food was not anything close to deal worthy. Crab cakes. Came out covered in a pink glob of remoulade sauce (should have been served on the side), golden brown, and ICE COLD. No guess needed, they weren't freshly made, but I do wonder how long they had been cooked before served. Yuck. (if we weren't entertaining our sweet elderly neighbor I would have sent them back. Especially at $10.95/app) Brazilian shrimp weren't bad. Lucky I like garlic. But I shudder to think how much butter was in this dish?! Hubby's fried scallops were okay. Skimpy portion. He counted 7 fried pieces. Our guest's fresh oysters on the half shell were tasty, but he hated his Mexican shrimp. Way too hot. I tasted them, and I'm a spice girl for sure, but these were sweat inducing. Next time you see gray haired patrons ( or anyone, for that matter) waiter, please warn them about the heat in the chipotles. Bottom line: Prices are high for quality of food. Someone would have to drag me to come back--even if an entree is free.

We are thankful Napi's was open in March--there is not much to choose from in this off-season. The entire town was fairly dead. However, we had a nice lunch at Napi's and enjoyed visiting with our friendly waitress. Husband enjoyed a creamy, brothy clam chowder--not super thick. Great flavor! I had the kale soup and it hit the spot on a cold, blustery March day. Would love to see "P-town" in season. Sad to miss the shopping.

We've been coming to Napi's since the early 1980's, and it had always been a perennial favorite. I have to say that this trip I was a bit disappointed. The martinis were small, yet expensive. The food was good, but not superb. We both had the Sole special, which was prepared and seasoned nicely, but ulitmately was forgettable. The decor seems dirty, run down, and tired. Overall, Napi's was pleasant, but it would benefit greatly from a much needed update.

Visited Napi's for the first time. Atmosphere is very eclectic.....menu selections are sure to please everyone, service was excellent, and the food was delicious. Both of my friends had the Mushroom Ravioli, and I had the Brazilian Shrimp.....both dishes LOADED with flavor. Portion was extremely generous.....prices a bit steep, but what prices aren't in Ptown? I will definitely visit again!

Went here at the suggestion of my mom. She said it was recommended by friends on the Cape. I gave three stars mostly for the host and our waiter. Both very nice and seemingly friendly. Food was okay, the atmosphere was eclectic in design and most certainly an older crowd. Would not go back unless I was with my mom again. Had the fish and chips which were okay. The waiter forgot the cole slaw which was not so great anyway. My wife enjoyed the scallops and my mother enjoyed the Brazialian shimp. Good for families I think. Away from the loud downtown crowd.

We arrived at Napi's the other night based on two enthusiastic recommendations given in the space of 6 hours on different ends of the Cape. First of all, we LOVED Provincetown! It is an incredibly charming and beautiful town, and in the offseason it was was sweet and tranquil, quiet but not dead, and the locals are incredibly warm and friendly. OK, back to Napi's, which was a short and charming walk from our inn. (Yeah, charming is a word I'll use a lot). The decor is eclectic, the atmosphere is homey, and the service straightforward and helpful. It is not touristy. We were glad to see that they had almost a FULL PAGE of vegetarian options, not something we were expecting on the Cape. I had the Brazilian black beans with rice and plantains and my husband had the cashew curry. We topped it off with a brownie sundae a la mode. Straightforward food - nothing fancy.

This was our first visit to Provincetown, MA, and we loved it all EXCEPT for our experience with Napi's. A friend had recommended this place to us and needless to say from our rating that we will never ask this friend his opinion again. The waitress was the rudest server we have ever come across. We were both shocked at how she treated me...she reprimanded me for bringing in "MIO" to mix in my water!! She never refilled my water glass and I was so intimidated I wouldn't even ask. She filled my friend's glass many times but completely ignored me. We couldn't wait to get out of there! The food was ok...but maybe it would have tasted better if this woman hadn't put such a bad taste in my mouth. We will never go back to this restaurant....EVER!

Napi's has been my favorite restaurant on the Cape for many, many years, so much so that I will no longer eat anywhere else when I go to Provincetown. While I've never eaten any of the meat or seafood dishes, I've ordered every dish on the vegetarian menu at least once. Napi's is one of the few restaurants where, still after all these years, I can't ever decide what to order. I've also never taken a guest there who hasn't LOVED it... it's one of the few places in Ptown not focused on ripping off tourists with imported seafood. I'm also not sure where all these comments about the "dull" menu are coming from. In a town where fried seafood (that tastes way more like fried than it does like seafood) prevails, Napi's is one of the few restaurants that blends Ptown's fishing community and Portuguese traditions. I'm constantly surprised by the blend of flavors and cuisines at Napi's... and how they can make something as simple as a vegetarian burrito truly gourmet. I always have a good time at Napi's, not just for the excellent food, but the quirky atmosphere and hilarious waitstaff that return year after year.

I've been to Napi's several times and have been remiss in not posting a review earlier. Maybe because the last thing I'm thinking about after eating there is getting on the computer as you just want to spend the rest of the evening enjoying the meal. I'll be honest, I love scallops, and no one does them better than Napi's. I don't remember the name of the dish but they do a scallop provincal with the sweetest scallops on the Cape. The service is as attentive as you'd like but not overly so. They're not the most inexpensive place in Ptown but one of my true "go-to" restaurants as I tend to be a "value" restaurant hunter. The atmosphere is interesting, unique, enjoyable and lively. Highly recommended.

That place was fun. I had the best oysters ever at "Napi's", if you go, opt for "Russian oysters", these plump succulent incredible bivalves come with a small dollop of sour cream and a tad of black caviar. Simply delicious and amazing taste bud experience.

Napi's was excellent last night. Our waiter was friendly and accommodating and our food was great. I ordered the sole special and I loved it. I definitely recommend it. It can be a challenge to find a place to eat on the Cape, but Napi's never disappoints!

Came st Patty's day- had one of their specials of the day for the holiday and it didn't come with half of what I said on the menu. The fried fish had zero flavor and was watery.. Left there spending $35-$40 for two- completely not worth it! It was off season; I'm not sure if that means its ok for the food to taste like crap?

Napi's was a delightful restaurant with nice decor. There are many vegetarian and vegan choices. I had the burrito , which was very big and unlike any burrito I've had. It had a white thing that was wrapped up in a green thing which was wrapped up in a another green thing and it was all toasted. the whole thing was sitting in a spicy pool of really spicy stuff. Overall, it was a great experience.

Food is perfect.... You must have a sense of culinary adventure or simply don't go. Bartender was great and engaging and while they didn't waste time on presentation the fresh crisp ingredients and generous portions had us wanting more. Dessert was saved for the local gourmet cookie shop.

We ate a Napi's last week which has become a regular stop when we are in Provincetown. We have never had to wait beyond a few minutes. We were Astarte downstairs. They have a extensive wine by the glass menu as well as a full bar and good beer selection. The server was courteous and attentive. I ordered a beautiful piece of lemon sole served with mashed potatoes, butternut squash, and asparagus. Sole is a delicate fish that can often be overwhelmed by too heavy a sauce. The lemon, white wine, capers and basil was a perfect sauce for the fish. My partner had salon with the traditional hollandaise sauce. The salmon was beautifully cooked and had another sauce to complement the fish not overpower it. The portions were huge. The service was excellent and quick. To us, Napi's never disappoints.

I used to love Napi's from the caipirinha's to the coconut encrusted skewers to the jewel of the crown to the key lime pie. buttttt... we were there last week and the bartender served us a drink that was scotch based under the name of caipirinha. i think not! it's on the list of speciality cocktails so you'd think the bar staff would know how to make it. oi. the fryer was down ...so no skewers. the food was ok. not awesome. the service was all right. i was sad that Napi's wasn't what it used to be for me. i'll try again but i was genuinely disheartened. fingers crossed for next time.

Apparently Provincetown is no good for vegetarians who are allergic to shellfish and only like boring fish like COD. Who prefers cod over the multitudes of other fish out there? No no no, not me, friend. My BF is a blandie vegetarian who doesn't eat seafood and is very specific about what he likes. Oh bother. So this seemed like the best [if not one of the only] place that had a decent selection of vegetarian foods on their somewhat eclectic menu. I dunno, menus like this kind of annoy me just like fusion restaurants. Napi's has Mediterranean, standard seafood fare, Portuguese? We split the vegetarian pot stickers. They were so so, but like the other reviewer stated, they were basically from a bag from Trader Joe's which is like $3 for a million! So my blandie BF ordered the falafel platter which had a ton of different items on it like stuffed grape leaves, pita, and some sort of Mediterranean hash. But he sat there nonplussed by it all. The falafel was room temperature and had that weird broken glass crunch instead of that somewhat wet sand crunch. I got the scallops and salmon with a dill cream sauce and was very pleased with it. It didn't even need parmesan cheese grated on top like I usually do, because it had the right amount of flavor. The most annoying thing [that really has nothing to do with the restaurant] was that we were at a table for two and it was UNCOMFORTABLY close to both table for twos next to us. Both parties got lobsters and I was mini jealous because I can't confidently open a lobster myself and would have to call my mom for advice on how to tackle it. The one woman next to us had the sort of deep-throated voice that you get from years and years of cigarette smoke and whiskey drinking and a phone which kept getting calls that she didn't want to answer, but for whatever reason, didn't hit the ignore button. You know what her ringtone was? CHILDREN LAUGHING! Who would pay for that?? Children laughing has got to be the creepiest sound in the world. Imagine that you're home alone and you hear children laughing and you swear it's in the house but you don't HAVE any children. Just move out and buy new all new stuff for your new place. Trust me.

I love this place. Atmosphere is terrific - unique, kind of rustic, comfortable yet interesting decor. Food is very good for what you pay for, with some really tasty dishes. Can be hit or miss, but mostly hit. Friendly, good service. I've been here both in summer and off-season, always enjoyed it and will definitely be back. Not gimmicky like many places on the Cape.

This past weekend we brought our friend's 3 year old and got chicken fingers for her. She loved the little pieces we chopped up for her but then my partner bit into one and it was raw. completely raw. When the server came over, we told him and he completely ignored us. We had to ask if he heard us because he didn't say a word and continued to pour iced tea. He said he heard us and left the table. He came back again and didn't mention anything. When he came back with the check and didn't mention it again we called the host over and explained it to him. He apologized and took it off our bill, but what the frak? The waiter didn't acknowledge that it even happened, never apologized, etc. That's all we wanted, we didn't want it taken off the bill (though gladly accepted), we just wanted him to be a human being and actually take care of the customer, because you know... that's kind of his job. He also commented on how beautiful the weather was every single time he came to the table before the food came out. "Beautiful weather huh?" five minutes later "Beautiful weather huh?" then again "Beautiful weather huh?"... I'm not kidding. He's a robot, I'm sure of it. Service sucked, food wasn't that good (except to a 3 year old) and after that raw chicken experience... never going back there again.

This place stands out in my memory as truly excellent. Perfect traditional Clam Chowder, not overly thickened or too creamy, but just right, Tenderloin with brie? Are you kidding me? I'm in heaven. Last time I came here everyone shared food, thankfully. Everyone agreed that this place is really wonderful. I would love to eat here again soon!

Nice! Something to satisfy the veggie in your group AND the seafood lover! Take the stress out of that weekend getaway right now. Napi's is open year-round and has the freshest of everything, with a fun Portuguese spin on things. I had the Positano, which is like a mini Boulliabaisse (who can eat all that?) and I could taste fresh fennel in it even.. totally delish. We split the tofu satay thing and an avocado spring roll, both very satisfying, and the molten lava cake. Oh yes. Plus a crisp vinho verde, not to mention some after-dinner martini's in the funky bar -- loved it. And so much to look at! Every nook and cranny has some kind of piece of art or history. Service is speedy and fun.

Interesting mix of dishes, fish and vegetarian which are a bonus for me. My 9 yo loves it too including the eclectic decor. Price is moderate for the area

Napi's is a place of firsts for me. I had my first lobster there when I was young, and, last week, I had my first taste of hummus. Don't ask me why I had never had hummus before, but Napi's hummus, as part of their Greek appetizer plate, is delicious and zesty. The olives included in the plate seemed like they came from a can (no pits), but they still tasted yummy. For my entree, I ordered a tenderloin with brie, medium rare. The brie sauce was garlicky and rich, and though it started out creamy, although it started to congeal as dinner wore on. The steak was juicy and delicious. The service was great and the look of Napi's is sometimes worth the visit - it's such an interesting place! Overall, Napi's menu is extensive, eclectic, and sometimes a little overwhelming. But what other restaurant in Ptown can you find such variety?

First-time visiting; sat at the bar and enjoyed a wonderful meal. Mellow yet nice energy establishment. No beer on tap. Menu offer wide variety to please anyone. Excellent service by the bartender.

Let's put it this way, for Provincetown it is above average - in Boston it would be out of business. I eat at Napi's several times a year, especially in the dead of winter when almost everything else is closed. I think the food is good and fresh (for the most part)... the atmosphere, eh, the service, eh. I had New Year's Eve dinner at Napi's again this year (2007) with a large group of friends. I wasn't blown away by it, but I didn't expect to be. Of note, this restaurant offers many vegetarian and vegan options.

Best chowder anyplace! Gotta have it every time I'm in P-town. We've always had friendly, helpful service, delicious specials, and yummy desserts (if we're not too full).

  • Freida J.

Great selection of vegetarian options. I love the Brazilian black beans, rice, and veggies. It is extremely overpriced, though. Even for P-town. I believe the meal is about $18- INSANE! The service is typically unfriendly here and there's an abundance of "restaurant rules" in the beginning of the menu. Jeez!

cool decor, okay (highly done-up offerings with less execution than advertisement). i felt like i was paying more than i should for okay, but not memorable quality -- aka typical provincetown. soup was not memorable and could've come from a weak stock or can. the fish was nicely done (bumped this up a star). portions were okay. the church thing at the bar was fun and reminded me of "church" in boston.

We came to Provincetown and had found out it was restaurant week as we were headed to Napi's based on the reviews. The waiter was excellent. The food on the other hand was not as great. The chowder and lobster bisque were watered down and not hearty at all. The wrm bread was soft but tasteless. The baked haddock was very flavorful with rice pilaf and veggies. The mussels although very succulent were too sandy. It was like eating the beach. The linguini was not al dente and the tomato-based sauce although aromatic was too light. The desert was good. Overall, we probably won't come back here.

My boyfriend and I were at the cape for vacation and found this place as a random spot for dinner. I left going on and on about how it was the best meal I've ever eaten and calling everyone I know to talk about it. I had scallops alfredo w/ tomatoes and spinach and it was to die for: the scallops melted in my mouth and the sauce was perfect. My boyfriend had Cod picatta and was really great. Start w/ the lobster rangoons and you'll fall over before you even get to the entree. The atmosphere is amazing and will keep you entertained all night. Prices are a little high but they more than deserve it!

The food was not bad, but not great either, and waaaaaaay overpriced. My veggie stir fry was mediocre, but cost $19, and five steamed dumplings a la Trader Joe's were $10. The whole meal for two, including only one glass of wine (which was the best part, incidentally) topped $60. I was lured in by their vegetarian-friendly menu, and aghast by the poor value, especially given all the positive reviews I'd read.

One of the few places in town where you can have a decent meal. Friendly service. Rich selection of vegetarian options.

I was taken to Napi's because someone was being accommodating to my vegetarian food needs. I am no longer a vegetarian, but might go back to Napi's again. I was not blown away by their lunch fare--it was decent, but not memorable. There was a cute orange cat sunning itself outside, and random musical instruments were attached to the walls, so I suppose this was cool. It is entirely possible that I just did not pick the right items on the menu to eat. UPDATE: Having only been to Napi's for lunch and when vegetarian, I am pleased to report that I am happier with my dinner, non-vegetarian Napi's experience, though it was moderately expensive. It was the best Portuguese soup I have had since Portugal, and for that, I thank Napi's.

This place is incredible!! The decor is .... well eclectic to say the least. So don't judge this book by it's cover... or the first few pages! Wait until you've tried the food, and I guarantee you that you'll be glad you did. This place is a gem.

I wasn't impressed by Napi's, but I wasn't disappointed either. Located off the main drag in Provincetown, it's a little quieter and it has a little bit more of that "neighborhood" feel to it. What gives this place its edge is that anyone can find something they'll like on their varied menu - large especially by P-town standards - and the food is solidly well-prepared. I ordered the fisherman's platter special when we went, and was a bit overwhelmed by the size; however, the seafood was cooked almost just right - even though the fries left me flat. I was also impressed by the freshness and flavor of all the items ordered at our table, especially with the asian curries. So, again, on the whole - nothing spectacular or special, but worth trying if you're tired of Bubala's or the other mostly crappy joints on Commercial Street.

Went over insane July 4th weekend. They kindly accommodated out party of 9. The service was good, more efficient than friendly. The food was excellent. From the coconut fried tofu to the falafel plate entree, I was extremely pleased. Others in our party had steak, chicken, pasta, etc. All seemed extremely pleased. Especially those who had pasta alfredo.

Poor service, sat underneath the stairs so everytime someone went up stairs was noisy right above you. Food was just okay and definitely not worth the price.

Going to Napi's is like walking up to a gingerbread house in the Twilight Zone. There will be tasty parts! You may not return! There are horses from a merry-go-round. There are stained glass windows from a cathedral. There is home-made whole wheat bread, and it's great. The menu is a Portuguese take on New England fare, which turns out to be a remarkably good idea. The menu is split into three sections: seafood, vegetarian and Portuguese. This makes Napi's a good choice if you're a hippie, but also if you're anyone else. I had the Cape Stuffed Lobster, a half lobster stuffed with scallops, shallots and bread crumbs with a lemon cream sauce. It was awesome, and even better after I had the brainstorm of mixing it with my mashed potatoes to make crazy seafood potato baby food. Kirsten had a bouillabaisse with enormous mussels, which I would turn into a joke about my own enormous muscles if I were speaking to you. I'm not, so the joke doesn't work. We spent about $100 for two including an appetizer, espresso and a bottle of wine. The service was great - our waitress was that type of career waitress who will treat you exactly as well as you treat her, which I appreciate. More genuine than some grinning college kid who'll smile and nod no matter what you say, and pee in your espresso later. The avocado seafood spring roll is tiny for $8, but what the hell; it tastes great. That pee-free espresso is better than you expected it to be. Napi's is an insane little slice of heaven.

ok for the price. All the entree's are at least $20. I wanted the clam chowder but they only had the cod chowder. It was good, and everyone's entrees were good, but for $20 a plate, I want incredible paired with incredible atmosphere. Napi's bills itself as the strangest restaurant in town. I don't know if it's the strangest or if that's just how they theme things, but the atmosphere certainly did not justify the prices. The staff and service were friendly and quick.

I have to admit I was a bit skeptical of this place when I first read the menu. It was quite varied, and my experience is that restaurants that specialize in one type of food usually are better. The menu varied foods as steaks Thai and stuffed lobster. My fears were allayed when I got my Thai peanut sauce chicken and shrimp meal. It was absolutely delicious. The restaurant has a nice inviting interior. I would definitely go back if I were in town again.

Good meal. The restaurant says is the most unusual restaurant in Provincetown. Perhaps because of the menu? ...it is varied...even with a big vegetarian section. Food was very good. I had the portegeses soup (awesome) and the cod Provencal (very good).

Went twice during the first part of July 2009. Hands down the best restaurant we found in PTown. The host David worked very hard to get us a table quickly. Charming man. Had a Bloody Mary at the bar. Terrific. One of the best I've ever had. And seemed a bargain at $7 for a very large drink. I had a scallop and shrimp over pasta dish the first night. Very, very good. Piping hot, very fresh. For appetizer that night I had a crab dish done in Asian style. Not what I was expecting, but very good. Second night I had the calamari appetizer. Hot and very good. Several good dipping sauces. But the real standout that night was the Brazilian shrimp entree. Delicious. Large, fresh shrimp in a garlic sauce. The side dishes of red beans, rice, banana fritter, etc., worked very well with the shrimp. It sounds silly, but it was one of those meals that seemed like a lot of thought went into it, instead of someone just slapping down some random side dish to fill you up. Dessert was creme brulee. True, a cliche. But quite good. Tasted like it had just been made on the premises. Dinner for two including a drink each was around $80. A bargain for what you get. Note: expect a wait on busy nights. It's very popular with locals. Don't know if they take reservations (we just walked in).

My husband and I have been going to Napi's since it was just a tavern with lots of unique artwork, and many cats roaming in and out (won't tell you the year). We loved it then. Napi's has grown considerably and has gone legit, becoming just like so many family-style restaurants throughout the country. It's very attractive and has a good menu, food is fine -- but has lost the special charm it had for us so many years ago. And nary a cat to be seen.

Napi's is one of the best resturants to visit when in the cape.. Huge selection of food. The staff is super nice and the quality of food is good for a vacation summer town. I will be back when i go back up there. Check out the property for all the cute kitties that they own...

Consistently delicious. I've been there half a dozen times over the past 8 years and have gotten something different and wonderful every time (this weekend it was the mushroom ravioli -- to die for!). I can't wait to go back and try something new! That's really saying something because I'm a vegetarian (and let's face it; there are usually only a few veg entree options on a menu this size). The ambiance is kooky and wonderful. Reservations are usually key. The only complaint I ever have about this place is the service, which is friendly but often quite slow.

when we asked the cab driver to recommend a good steak, this was where we were directed. and it Was a good steak - tender, black angus, you could cut it with a bread knife. we had both the Bearnaise and the blue cheese and couldn't finish either of them no matter how delicious (large portion). the service was very friendly and helpful (especially the belgian busboy. loved him.) and the decor was engaging and enjoyable. they have a couple of heartwarming newspaper stories hanging in the entranceway about rescued animals that touched me, the idea that they cared enough to put them up for all to see on the way in. i think it was a Bit pricey (29$ for an 8 ounce steak, no salad. just veg and potato) but the quality was exceptional so maybe i am just being picky. i also loved that the waitress brought me a sample of the wines i had questions about.

My wife and I go here for lunch every single time we go down to P-town. We ask for Jim's section every time and we are never let down. He is the greatest. Very personable and always brings a smile to our face. The rest of the staff is wonderful as well, but he's our favorite. The food is also wonderful....still yet to get a bad meal. The mojitos are amazing and fresh here. Highly recommended!!!!! See you there!

Spent a week in Provincetown and ate out every night at a different place. Napis was the best meal I had all week. Everything was right on the mark. Service, atmosphere, food all excellent. Avocado spring rolls delicious. Shrimp Santa fe.. Yum!! Napis has been around for 35 years for good reason.

Napi's was ok for me. The atmosphere was fun-loving and decorated with interesting things. However, I thought the food was going to be much better. The soup we had was super salty and the seafood dinner was just ok. The shrimp & scallops were overcooked, and the scallops were fishy tasting (not buttery like I expected).

Went here for New Year's dinner last year... it was crammed wall -to- wall but the food and atmosphere were exquisite. I seem to remember a dog roaming around... or was that too much tequila. We still can't stop talking about what a fantastic meal that was. Definitely one of my top 10 meals of a lifetime.

Been to Napi's twice. First time was about 12 years ago and this past summer again. Some things never change. Although many rave about Napi's I found the menu uninspiring and overpriced. The wait staff was pleasant and attentive.

I was lurred by the veggie cuisine. The food was ok/good - nothing amazing. It was overpriced. After I ate I thought about better veggie meals I could have eaten in Boston for the same price but for overall way better food and ambience.

We wandered up to this place about 30 minutes before it opened for dinner, and we were just about to walk away and seek out something else when Napi himself walked out of his nearby house and invited us into the empty restaurant for a drink before they started serving food again. He showed us around his place, telling us a little but about nearly every piece of art in the place. We sat at the bar and learned just about everything one would ever want to know about Provincetown, the history of the harbor, and the building Napi's occupies. Then came the food. I assumed we would be eating seafood, but as advertised by Napi himself, this place is the most unusual restaurant in Provincetown. We started with a fried avocado spring roll and no nonsense clam chowder. For the main course, we had the chicken special with apples and cranberries (his wife's invention). Everything was unique and delicious, and the menu was way more eclectic than I would have ever expected from a place way out at the tip of Cape Cod. I would definitely return to Napi's, and now that I am back in San Francisco, one of my orders of business will be to send Napi a postcard thanking him for a wonderful evening and meal, and if I ever return, I will head straight there to explore other parts of the menu.

Napi's was a wonderful dining experience. I was expecting good solid food, but this was pretty fantastic from the drinks (caiparinhas), entrees (brazilian style steak and salmon and scallop pasta with cream sauce), through dessert (triple chocolate dream and carrot cake). I thoroughly enjoyed everything. Service was good and the decor/ambience were very comfortable. They also have their own parking, a plus.

If you are looking for vegetarian food, don't waste your money. My husband and I (both vegetarians) were excited to have found one of the few restaurants in Provincetown with more than one vegetarian dish. I should have known better. This is an example of a place that tries to do many things, but doesn't do any of them well. Our avocado spring roll sounded promising, but it could have been so much better than it was. It didn't taste bad, but it was a combination of asian (soy dipping sauce) and mexican (cheese) that was a little weird. I had some issues with my cashew vegetable stir-fry. Instead I was served cashew chicken. When I told our waitress, she pretty much blamed me for the error and seemed surprised that I wasn't willing to eat it. Um, hello? I haven't eaten chicken in years. I KNOW I didn't order the chicken. When I finally did get my vegetable stir-fry, it was edible, but mediocre. I was extremely disappointed by the entire experience. Hopefully their meat dishes are better.
