Spent a week at Northampton. We had casual dinner here on four of the six nights at Fttzys. Bar food yes - however one step above Chillis type bar food. Excellent service beers are cold, local and poured quickly. Pro tip-- parking is available behind the bar for about 75 cents per hour. :)

The service was excellent , the food came quickly . We has the soft pretzel appetizer it was good , the cheese that came with it was ok but the beer mustard was outstanding . For our entrees we had the meatloaf sandwich and the crunchy haddock sandwich both where very good but he meat loaf sandwich was missing something not sure what it was just needed something to bring out the flavor of the meatloaf , over all I would recommend this place and I would suggest sitting up front so you can over look the downtown area out

My husband and I stopped at Fitzwilly's at the tail end of our Labor Day weekend. The place wasn't overly packed, the bar area was definitely hopping, but the restaurant is actually pretty sizable so the area we were shown to (the window seats around the corner from the main bar (by the second bar) was half full. The menu is all over the place...BBQ, Mexican, American, Italian...pick your poison. I went with a shaved steak burrito and my husband went with the "I Love BBQ" Combo Platter (which included 1/4 rack of St. Louis ribs, 1/4 smoked chicken and beef brisket with fries). My burrito wasn't bad, it just wasn't good. The shaved steak was like Steak'Ums to me. It was just too dry. The rice ratio was overwhelming to everything else in the burrito and it just didn't satisfy. I ate about half of it and gave up. In terms of the BBQ platter, my husband said the ribs weren't too bad, but they were slathered with so much sauce that it made them near impossible to eat without dumping it on yourself. The chicken was a disappointment. Though it wasn't overcooked, the skin was soggy and gelatinous. Not an appetizing bite at all. Just take the skin off if you aren't going to make sure it's crispy. The brisket was dry. I tried a bite of the corn bread that came with and spit it out. The texture was off and it tasted like playdough. The server was nice and efficient. She didn't hover and she came around when we needed her. The space was pretty dark (where we were at least) and the many decorations, while interesting to look at, needed a good dusting. To sum things up, while I'm sure that the plentiful menu does offer some gems, we did not unearth those on this visit and as such, I don't think we'd plan on coming back.

Let your fat kid come out and get the Gorgonzola bread dip thing... omg delish And "spoon daddy" aka Jeff is hands down the best bartender ever! He can't leave, meaning he has to die here. Love him.

I walked in after 15 years of being away from MA and I was expecting great laid-back atmosphere, the Sox game on, wonderful cocktails and food and Fitzwilly's delivered! You gotta go for the entire experience! Can you find the strawberry with wings?

So, it has been a couple of years now that I have not been to fitz. I remembered it to be quite a pleasant experience. However, I made the terrible choice to come in today for lunch. The hosts were so incredibly unprofessional! I had to wait for them to finish texting at the stand because they did not see me standing in front of them. After I sat down, I could hear them gossiping about staff from my table! How unpleasant is that! Seriously fitz, you need to get your act together and discipline your employees or else you will see your customers like myself walking away forever from your establishment!

Fitz-Willy's, a Noho classic Can't believe it's been open as long as it has. It's been a while since we've been here, but it does not disappoint. Nice selection with updated offerings Loved the alfredo (wicked alfredo I think it was called). Brought home the leftovers and was still good the next day. Nice take on "crazy alfredo" you see around these parts. Gorgonzola cheese appetizer was sinful. Great beer selection and overall energy. All enjoyed theirs meals and service.

We have gone to FitzWilly's many times over the years. I think the quality of the food has gone down in the last couple of years. The last several times, my partner and I have left discussing the fact that one or both of us had a meal that was just disappointing. Recently, I got a burrito. I cut into it. The ingredients looked more like mush than the fresh tasty food that one is usually accustomed to when ordering Mexican food. It was hard to distinguish one thing from another - the chicken, rice, black beans - all looked the same. It tasted bad (almost like I was eating leftovers or something). In fact, there were peas in it. I thought that was strange - the menu didn't mention peas. Unfortunately, I didn't feel well for the next 24 hours. Some things on their menu are good! They have a new "Louisiana Lollipop" appetizer that is like spherical corn dogs with sausage in the middle. The Gorgonzola and Garlic Bread appetizer is also a nice (although heavy) start. I have often enjoyed the pastas. Service is fine. It feels to me like the wait staff is working hard, and sometimes they come across as slightly stressed. But, everyone is friendly - no complaints in this area. Just know that this restaurant is inconsistent. It is a bit hit or miss. Don't order the burrito though!

My friends and I have been going to Fitzwilly's for over 20 years and it was our "go-to" joint while in college. 5 of us recently met up for a girls night out and we were sadly disappointed. The one thing Fitzwilly's has going for them is their great beer and drink selection. That is the only reason I would give them 2 stars. The food and service was terrible. Our waitress appeared to be annoyed that we were seated in her section and took her time to come over and acknowledge us, and when she did she was just plain rude. We decided to order apps rather than all get meals. Back in the day, the "House Nachos" alone would fill us up however, these days they are a pathetic 10 tortilla chips on a tiny rectangular plate, for $10 bucks no less. 4 apps didn't hit the spot, so we ordered 2 more, much to the annoyance of our waitress. I can't even remember what we ordered because it was all pretty sub par. So sad to see such a great place go way downhill. It used to be great and unfortunately I don't think we will be going back any time soon.

This was one of favorite restaurants in Northampton when we lived in Massachusetts before moving to Buffalo in 1988. The years have been good to FitzWilly's. I chose to try two items from the slider menu - lobster salad and a Reuben - with fries and a locally brewed beer. All excellent. My wife had a shrimp, bacon, and asparagus pasta dish, which was also excellent. We shared the Ghirardelli brownie ice cream sundae - a delight.

Five stars. This is easily the busiest restaurant in town and the food is consistently delicious. The smokehouse option is on point, and that's just a fraction of the menu. I had a quick meal on my way through town on a sat night, they were slammin busy, my food was cooked fast and fresh. I was more than impressed with the whole experience. Staff is friendly, beer selection is great and most importantly, the food was awesome.

A friend of mine went to school at UMass Amherst and introduced me to this restaurant. It's a more upscale version of a homey college bar, and he swears by the food. We had the Gorgonzola Garlic Bread, which was out of this world. Think soft garlic rolls swimming in a gloriously pungent gorgonzola cream sauce and you have this garlic bread. I love my stinky cheeses, so I was wiping up every bit of that delicious sauce with my fork, ensuring none of it went to waste. For my entree, I got the BLT, which was indeed packed with bacon and featured a really lovely roasted garlic mayo. Towards the more bacon-packed ends, it got to be a little too salty, but as a bacon-lover, I really enjoyed it all the way through. The fries were just average. My friends all got burgers and enjoyed their food as well. I'd definitely come back if I was ever in the area. It's bar food done well in a really cozy environment.

Service was wonderful. Natalia is very nice and paid plenty of attention to my table. Food however is eh. Barely any flavor. I thought I was going to get plenty of flavor in the combo I ordered. It had ribs, chicken, and brisket. Yet none of it popped. I've had better meat at chain restaurants. Spinach artichoke dip was pretty good but still only 3/5. Nothing really wowed me there. Had plenty of leftovers but couldn't imagine trying to force them down another day so I left them. It's also a little darker than necessary i feel. Nothing special. Probably great if you're drunk though. Great drunk food menu for sure

The menu is awesome and has everything you'd ever want for lunch/dinner. They have many different beers and their I've never had a bad meal there. I often take my family there when they come up to visit me at school. The staff and service isn't all that great, they're slow and hard to find,I love the atmosphere though some find it too dark and the seats uncomfortable

Been here many times to drink and a few to eat. Drinks are well made and service has always been good. Not great or over the top pleasant but it gets the job done. I joined family there for a birthday party the other night. I've recently modified my diet to vegan and assumed since this place is located in the heart of hippieville noho that I would have no issue finding something on their menu. Boy was I wrong. Not a single salad was on the menu without meat. Not even a house salad listed. Sure I could've ordered one of the entree salads and asked to hold the meat but the price would've been the same and I think that'd be ridiculous to pay 14$ for vegetables and leaves. Luckily a few (2 if I remember correctly) apps were vegan friendly and I enjoyed the pretzel sans dipping sauces which was a good thing according to my table mates that tried the sauces and said both were awful. As for deciding on an actual meal, I had no real other choice but to order the portobello burrito without the cheese. The menu listed sour cream as being on the side with the salsa which was fine because my bro in law wanted extra sour cream for his meal and I could just give it to him. Alas, the burrito arrived covered in sour cream! Who does that?! Good thing I was already planning on not eating the tortilla since it was a cheese tortilla but seriously-don't just put sour cream on someone's food without explicitly stating on the menu that's how it comes. If I had been able to eat the tortilla I would've been ticked that it arrived with the sour cream on it and had to send it back. Would've been a hassle for all involved.

Waitress was snarly, one entree was okay. She brought the wrong order to our table then rolled her eyes at us when we informed her that it wasn't ours. Asked for soup of the day, she didn't know, also didn't know any beer or drinks they had just pointed to the menu. Too expensive for the unorganized hassle imo.

Solid 3 stars for past 40 years. Solid 3 stars for next 40 years. Pleasant place to eat, drink, meet, schmooze. Pub-ish food. Nice people. Did I say 3 stars? Yeah, 3 stars all the way.

I just had the most terrible experience at this restaurant. Visiting from Virginia I relied on Yelp reviews to find a good place to eat. This place has an overall rating of 3 stars but I took a chance and decided to eat here. When we first came in the hostesses we talking and it took 1 minute before they decided to address us. I wasn't pleased at the seating but thought it may be due to server availability. Our server was SO BAD! She wasn't friendly but not rude either. So again I ignored my instincts and ordered two appetizers and drinks for my family. My daughter decided to ask the server about meal options. The server seemed flustered and read some items off the menu and it was obvious she didn't have any helpful suggestions. The worst part Is the server said she couldn't answer anymore questions because she had to help someone else. This left me flabbergasted because I've never had anyone be so rude. I would not recommend this place!!! It is the worst experience I've ever had.

I have been coming here for almost 30 years and have never been disappointed. The food is terrific, the wait is minimal at worst and the staff is always welcoming and friendly. FitzWilly's has been a staple of this wonderful town for 40 years and I hope they're still here 100 years from now.

Neat atmosphere located in an old Masonic Temple. Great selection of beers on tap with a good portion of them local. We had a small lunch of fried calamari and onion soup. Both were good and prepared well. I would like to come back and try some of the other menu items as they looked very good and our fellow bar mates said they were regulars and enjoyed the food.

I've lived in Northampton for quite a few years and hadn't gone to Fitzwilly's ever, until this year. I'm really annoyed at myself for not checking it out sooner, because it's got some of the most reliably good food in town! It can get a bit crowded/noisy at times, but I'm often able to sneak in here on an off hour and get a quiet lunch or early dinner with friends. The food has always been great - we order the sliders every time and I love the fries. I've been to almost every place in Northampton and this one ranks in my top 5 in town right now. Would definitely recommend to locals and visitors alike.

Ate lunch here today because it was 3:30 so all the other places we tried were not open. Against my better judgement I might add as we rarely try any where with only three Yelp stars. For good reason it seems as the food here sucked. I had a salad that was tasteless and my fiancé had a huge plate of meat with some side dishes that tasted like they were straight out of an Applebee's kitchen. Nothing was fresh, and his BBQ was strugglesville. Our server was actually a nice guy and very attentive though on a positive note.

It's been maybe 12 years since my last visit to Fitzy's, & we should have stayed away, or at least tried next door at the Toasted Owl. Poor service is a generous description, and the tired decor is not enough to distract from the overpriced and understrong cocktails. As one other reviewer noted, we're not sure why this is still a local institution, with so many other options. We wanted to like it, if only for the sake of reminiscence, but be warned. Oh, well.

Not one bad bite! We were visiting from NY and did not expect much from this place. Thought it would be a glorified applebees. We ordered the lettuce wraps and brussel sprouts for apps. Very yummy. Then we got the french onion burger, rueben, mahi fish sandwich and steak salad. Everything was very very good. The best thing we ate was the fish chowder. OMG! CHOWDER LOVERS HERE! We ordered two more chowders to go which were just as good the next day. Prices were good and portions were right. Truly a surprise find. The service was a bit slow at first but our waitress saw we meant business and took good care of us.

Okay because it's a local family owned store I give it 3 stars. The food wasn't good there but their chicken wings are great. Had their chix parm and it was very small and my pasta didn't have tomato sauce on it other than melted butter.. Their beer selection is better than most restaurants in town.

If there was an option for zero stars I would have chosen that. I went to Fitzwilly's one evening after my aunt had died. I wanted to pick up some of their gorgonzola garlic bread. (quite possibly the only good thing on the menu) The restaurant was moderately busy and the bar had all but 2 seats full. I waited over 20 minutes trying to get the bartender's attention to place my order. A lovely couple next to me could see that I was not having very much luck and they too attempted to get assistance. After 30 minutes, I was finally able to place my order. I asked to speak to the manager regarding the long wait time and that's where things got horribly ugly... and unsafe. I explained the situation to the manager and he told me "too fucking bad" that I had to wait that long. A group of cute cheerleaders came in after me and "they get priority." I was appalled that he would speak to me this way but having known the owner and his boys, I could see that he would hire someone with a personality and mouth similar to their own. I explained to the manager that my aunt had just died a couple of hours earlier and all I wanted was an order of bread and he told me he didn't fucking care and i was to get the fuck out of his restaurant immediately. He started to shove me all while yelling obscenities at me. He screamed across the restaurant to the bartender - who all of a sudden was available - to cancel my order, and I was ceremoniously thrown out. Several years ago I had dined there with a friend who ate something that made him violently ill. He went to the hospital and ended up having a colostomy because there was a piece of glass in his food and had ruptured his intestines. This was hours after having eaten only at Fitzwilly's that day. He had to have a colostomy bag for three months. We can only assume that it was from his overpriced lunch at fitzWilly's. The restaurant has poor service, over-priced food, a filthy kitchen and now that the owners kids work there, I wouldn't trust a single thing that anyone touches. The only thing that owners have perfected is their rudeness to customers, lack of integrity and filth. If the staff is any reflection of its owners, i would steer clear.

Fitzwilly's is a nice place in Noho to get some barbecue. The place offers these small 1-bite sandwiches that are ultimately the best thing on the menu in my opinion, because you can order a variety of different types. The place has a nice atmosphere to it, the waiting time is a little high, but that is because of how busy it gets. Growing up down south for a few years, I got accustomed to southern barbecue, and up in New England finding decent barbecue is a big chore. This place offers similar food, not 100% southern but pretty close; and to me that is impressive. This is a great place to take people out to!

During a day trip to Northampton, the fella and I were craving burgers, so we stopped at Fitzwilly's for lunch. This is a big place, it seems to go on forever, with different levels even, but we were seated in a cozy corner with plants and a wall of windows. The decor is fun without being overwhelming or too "Hard Rock"y. We started with the Gorgonzola & Garlic Bread, which despite looking unappetizing is lick-the-plate-clean delicious. I had a trio of sliders. You pick however many you want from a list of 7 interesting choices. I had the Reuben slider, the grilled sirloin slider and the pulled pork slider. All were missing flavor. I usually never salt my food, but they all needed some seasoning. The pulled pork slider had nothing in it except pulled pork (no slaw, no sauce). They did look adorable speared with a cornichon, but the taste just wasn't there for me. The fella had the French onion burger. When I asked him how it was he said "good". A man of many words. My sliders were not worth the $9.70, which did not include fries (extra $1.25), but I'd go back to Fitzwilly's if I was in the area to try other items, since their menu is really creative and the appetizer was so good.

Early dinner, seated by hostess on the mezzanine. Waited for a waitress for 15 minutes. A family came in on the main floor and was served almost immediately. Poor service, so we left.

Bartenders are top notch, just real pros. Atmosphere is what franchised restaurant/pubs aspire to be like. In fact, I avoided this place for years because it has that sort of look(eg Pizzeria Uno's) and name(eg, Fudruckers) that had me convinced it was a 'chise. Anyways, the menu is very eclectic, and most of it is very mediocre and getting mediocre-er, it seems. I only really eat there when the apps are half price and even then I regret it. Good place to hang with other middle aged folks, strike up a chat and take in a game.

I came here multiple times with my school friends but we always get the same menu. The Gorgonzola and garlic bread is a must try! It's toasted and served with melted Gorgonzola cheese and the combination is so delicious. The bread is toasted and fluffy and warm inside. The cheese is really hot and is perfect for dipping! The second must get item is the Wicked Alfredo. It's supposed to be a bit spicy but it's not spicy at all to me. I toss in some pepper flakes to spice it up. I ask for it without the chicken because I don't like big chunky chicken pieces. But for people that like lots of chicken in their pasta, they are generous with their chicken! This dish is really yummy. I haven't tried other dishes really so my review is only for these two dishes. It's more than enough for three people in my opinion. The pasta is pricey but the serving is large so I'm sure it won't disappoint. Also it opens till 2am. Perfect for college students like me who get hungry late at night after a study session. It's hard to find a restaurant in Northampton open that late so I appreciate this location.

First time in Northampton and hungry for a bite to eat. There was an option for all meat and we took it. The food was good, although a lot of the meat contained high percentages of fat. For dessert, the brownie sunday was as expected. The brownie came warm with whipped cream.

Fitzwilly's is a staple for me when I am home visiting. It is a great environment and I rarely get something I don't like. I recently went and had the burnt endz with the onion rings. For an appetizer it was huge and fulfilled a full meal for me. I love the creamy dill house dressing. My go to favorite is the Bistro salad, the one bad is I am pretty sure the steak used to come on it now you pay extra for it but I still do because it is a delicious salad. The beer menu could use more to it but overall it is a great place. Local favorite.

I had been to Fitzwilly's before and enjoyed the Gorgonzola garlic bread, but that's about it. I went in on my 21st birthday for dinner (not to the bar), and ordered one birthday drink (as one does). My out of state license expired on my birthday, but that means it was still a valid ID until midnight. However, our waitress and BOTH managers on duty claimed that while it is valid to drive and travel across the country on my ID, it is illegal to buy alcohol with it in Northampton. We chose to then leave if I could not celebrate my birthday there, but they then wanted to charge us for all of the food we'd ordered but had not received. Only after threatening to call the police did they allow us to walk out - the waitress telling the four of us to "have fun getting drunk somewhere else" on our way out. The rudeness astounds me. I did go to the Northampton Police Department and asked about this Northampton-only law on license expiration, where it was confirmed this law was completely made up, either to shield them from serving an out of state license (though the 3 others at the table were served with out of state licenses) OR they just did not want to serve someone on their 21st birthday in case of rowdiness, inventing a fake law in the process. The lies coming out of the mouths of the managers, and the demand that we pay for food we had not yet received when we immediately wanted to leave, is unethical practice and I will never return, and will actively tell others to stay away.

Noticed that they closed for renovations over the past week and had to drop by to see changes. (maybe they read my last review) The new bar is very nice and livens up the space well. The refinished floor and new furniture is also nice to see. I'm glad they spent the cash to make for a better space, this was a wise investment for competitive downtown market. Now a little advice on beer prices.... Stop skimming your keg prices at Toasted Owl by pouring 12oz glasses charging $6 ++ and then you go over to Ftiz and get a 16oz (a normal size) but then pay even more. If your going to tout 28 taps atleast treat it right and give out a proper PINT! take a lesson from Sierra, Hinge or even truth.

So my boyfriend and I went to this establishment tonight. after a 25 minute wait, we were escorted up the stairs to the strange the seating area with the table hardly large enough to hold 2 plates & 2 drinks!! My boyfriend also made a good point... after the 20 + minute wait, we then had to sit at the table for another 20 minutes before being able to order in food. his point being that be a stylish minute should have offered it's waiting guests menus so that way once they were seated it would be able to tell their waiter or waitress what they wanted for food, cutting back customers restoration in the establishment waiting-line issue. luckily my boyfriend was able to find to padded bar stools for him and I to sit on. the other option was to stand move around very busy hectic atmosphere dodging waitresses and other diners, or go stand out front on the street, which was not an option as as soon as you open up the front door all you could do was in hell the balance cigarette smoke from the many cigarette smokers who were using their stairs as their bench. Anyway about our experience at a table built for 1..... So we have finally got to place our order which contained a Caesar salad for each 1 of us. are salads arrive and the lettuce is limp and not fresh, the salad was warm, and contained only to croutons on my plate and four croutons, on his plate! 0.o next comes my suit but there was no room on the table for so I had to rest on the banister, nervously hoping it wouldn't fall off & knockout a person below. French Onion arrived and I was excited, until I had to use my knife to cut through my cheese. as I shoveled the first spoonful into my mouth, I realize something immediately... it was luke warm. A few minutes later the waitress returns with the onion rings. Again, they are cold. Next come my sirloin sliders... Specified medium-well, they arrived medium...at best. :( So disappointed, cramped and holding my soda cut in between my legs, due to having a postage stamp for a table... I was finally able to get my waitresses attention, who is Ernest if I would like the food on the table I had pecked at, wrapped. I figure there's no way I'm going to pay for food not take it home at least at home I have devices that I can make it warm and enjoyable. (If it has any luster left to it by the time you get the leftovers home and reheated). After our waitress has brought back our packaged food, it took an additional 20 minutes to flag her down again to get her bill. we paid tipped very graciously in as we exited the restaurant immediately noticed the amount of cigarette smoke that 1 is forced to inhale and took our leftovers back home. Now... a few hours go by once I get home and I decide to re heat my food up. I go back in and there's no dipping sauce with my onion rings!!!! My sliders was missing 1 of it's buns, which wasn't when she took my plate. Being in undercover food critic me use me very judgemental about situations. I have to be it's part of my responsibility as a accurate, dedicated and knowledgeable food critic. on that note I would have to have said it would have been easier just to leave the food on the table, rather than hauling it all around Northampton, just to find out when I got home that the onion rings had no sauce and my hamburger was still mooing, with a missing bun. :( So, I suggest that if you go in and it is super busy and you have to leave your name and receive a pager.... really think about possible water options as you may have things over looked, which ultimately you as a consumer will end up paying for... I did.

Let me just say I live on main street, prefer better places but went here on the request of my roommates who wanted to go somewhere we had never been. Now that I have, I will not be going back. Expected mediocre, got sub par. Nachos I split with roommates were very average. Nothing special at all. I ordered the steamed mussels appetizer because I thought, "Hey, you can't goof up steaming right?" Well, they were steamed, but they tasted very off. Like they weren't fresh....or just plain bad. I found myself sopping them up with the marinara they came with to hide the taste. My other roommates all said their food was pretty par to sub-par but complained of stomaches later. We dubbed our ailment "I got the Fitzwillies". The most pleasant thing was the surprise of one of my favorite beers being on tap. Woo hoo! Service was fine. Nothing special. Atmosphere was kind of dark, kind of sports-bar meets Applebees meets local-restaurant-trying-to-be-fancier-than it is. Ugh. The taste of those mussels just came back to my mouth and made me grimace. Final verdict: We tried it, and now I don't have to again.

Great salads; the tostada was delicious, kid-friendly, large portions. The burger was tasteless, sliders were decent. Staff was not exactly super friendly; we had 5 adults and 2 kids in a double stroller, the place was fairly empty and it took them a good 10 minutes to find us seating... Which we then found was upstairs. So our only option was to take the kids out of the stroller, and lug it and them upstairs or wait another 20 minutes in a nearly deserted restaurant. Prices were reasonable.

I loved everything about Fitzwilly's. The atmosphere was nice, I went with 4 other people and was able to taste each of their dishes - everything we ordered was delicious. We also had pretty good service. I can't wait to go back!

It's alright, not great. Way overpriced for what it is. A lot of the waitresses aren't very nice or welcoming and can be downright rude if you order a milkshake, and milkshakes are just about the only reason I still go there. It can be a fun place to go, especially with a big group of friends, but there are a lot of better options around.

I always have fun at Fitzwilly's. Sure, it's pub-y, with pub food and pub service. Sure, you have to get lost before you can find the ladies room. But there are giant tea kettle pot things hanging from the ceiling! Hello! Loving the exposed brick, industrial feel of Fitzwilly's. Also I'm on a sesame crusted, seared tuna kick lately and let me tell you: the Asian tuna salad here deeeeeee-livers.

This place is fine. The frozen peah daquiri is delicious. We ordered the herb crusted salmon salad. It was okay with small portions and weird unexpected flecks of wasabi. I ordered the seared ahi tuna salad which was actually very delicious and the wasabi vinagerette was good with bursts of wasabi coming through. Good but not sure we would stop by again.

I've given Fitzwilly's numerous chances since, for some reason, it's a Northampton institution. I loved this place when I was younger (like 10) but my latest experience here has really soured me on the place. Pros: -Decent beer list. -Fairly cheap (even though the food is similar to an Applebee's chain) -Serviceable "pub grub" Cons: -For the hype that surrounds this place, the food should be spectacular and it's not. -My biggest gripe was the service. Our server was fine, but our group of 13 had made a reservation for 5 pm. Our server told us at the beginning of the meal that we had to be out in under 2 hours and then actually announced to the entire table at 6:45ish that we had to leave because another party was coming in. We hurriedly grabbed our coats and it made saying goodbye to my family members (this was an uncle's 60th bday gathering) very awkward. This is APPALLING service. Never in my life have I been at a dinner that was reserved and been told I had to leave in under 2 hours (especially with a large group). The only way I could conceive of coming here again is if I was going for the beer and the beer alone. Otherwise, I'll go to any of the other great restaurants in the area.

This was my old stomping ground a few years back and I have many great memories there but those all included alcohol and only the occasional munchies. From what I remembered, the food was decent but nothing special. A lot of food that was "freezer to fryer" but I went a couple of days ago and got the sliders and they were really good. I have always liked going here and sitting at the bar, having a drink or two (or three or four) and getting something to munch on. P.S. Say "hi" to Spooner for me

One of my favs in noho, its a good place to bring picky eaters and gluten free folks cuz they have a huge variety in this menu also the cocktail menu is great. The inside of the restaurant looks very creative

Fitzwilly's is great~ Their food is generally all delicious. Their salads are UHmazing~ But really most entrees/appetizers I've had here have been great. I wouldn't go for the pasta though--my friend's angel-hair pasta was bland, and then the spicy cajun chicken one was way too salty. So I would stick with the American non-pasta dishes in terms of food. Good mix of drinks, great selection of beers.

We stopped into Fitzwilly's while we were desperately searching for a cocktail. The outside decor assured us that we had found a place with a full bar. The staff was friendly enough, we only had a couple cocktails, but they generously let us play with the Trivia Pursuit cards they leave on the bar. Menu looked very large, like one of those places that tries to serve everything so they can please everyone.

I always stop at Fitz Willy's when I am in Northampton. It's become my go-to place. I usually consider going elsewhere, but after reading menus and pricing at other restaurants, decide that FitzWilly's is the safest bet. Burgers and sandwiches, as well as salads are all in the $10 range. Recently I stopped in on a Tuesday night and it was rather quiet in the restaurant. We were seated quickly and our server was excellent. She was a real pro and was really on top of things. I asked her to come back to the table when my boyfriend returned from the restroom to get his drink order since I wasn't certain what he wanted, and she was right there at the table when he sat down again. I thought that she was attentive without being overbearing. Perfect service in my mind. 5 stars for service! The food was good. I really enjoyed my turkey sandwich with apples, onions, and cheese on it. It was delicious and very large, so I could only eat half of it there. I got a side of potato salad with my meal which was simplet yet flavorful. Overall a tasty, filling meal. I was pleased with it. I feel like their food is not anything gourmet or spectacular, but it met my expectations based on my prior experiences and the menu description. I like the ambience of the place. I think that it'd be a fun location to have a few drinks, though I usually don't since my visits here involve driving a distance afterwards. Seems like a popular place, more of a tavern environment with a touch of class. Many of the patrons are middle-aged, though I am sure they get a fair share of the college crowd as well.

Been here a few times me and my girlfriend love coming here for the atmosphere, as well as the food. The waitresses are very nice and very accommodating if you ask for things. Feels like a Cheesecake Factory but better since its not a chain restaurant. My favorite thing here is the crazy Alfredo. The sliders are also good. Love coming here can't wait to come back

Pros: Beer is good Upstairs and downstairs seating Neat-looking place Cons: Food is okay, it depends what you get Always busy. Takes forever to be seated, once youre seated, takes forever for someone to come over, and takes forever to get your food. People are always running around. Dont go here for a relaxing dining experience. You will get bumped into on your way to the bathroom. I wasnt that impressed but it was okay. I would rather try someplace else next time.

3.5 Stars Food: The food was pretty good. I had a Reuben, which was nice and tasty and had plenty of meat. It was a little too moist on the bottom from all the extra meat (and the sauerkraut prob. didn't help), but was delicious anyway. Oh, and it came out screaming hot...def. burned my lip on the first bite. The fries (or at least the ones I stole off a friend's plate) were nice and crisp on the outside but soft in the middle, like I like them. I would pass on the potato salad, it was just too bland. Drinks: The drink menus had plenty of options. I had a tall #9. The strawberry daiquiri a female friend had tasted virgin though, and thus just super sweet, so we had to have them "spruce it up a little." Service: Service was good enough, we got seated quickly, but had to wait a little too long in my opinion to see the waitress the first time.

Overrated. The beer selection isn't great, and the food is only all- right. Their kitchen is open late though which is a plus.

Fitzwilly's always has a fun atmosphere and really good appetizers. But I never can find anything I want on the menu except maybe a turkey sandwich which I do not go out for dinner for. The food isn't good, but as I said the appetizers are really good. Wouldn't go on my own, but wouldn't say no if it was chosen by friends.

The new menu saved this place. Period. It was horrible before and I would avoid it at all costs, however...the new menu is great! It has lots of variety: seared tuna salad...fresh mozzarella triangles and a wicked red velvet cupcake. Thank you to the owners of FitzWillys for running this new classy menu! You have given me a new pub to visit for a late night dinner! You have regained a customer...also... To Whom It May Concern: you should bring back the coconut shrimp...that was the only thing I liked on the old menu and it would greatly compliment what you currently run on the new menu!

Back in the day...and I mean way back in the day, this place was pretty decent. Then everything went south about 20 years ago. I know this because this where I took my wife on our first date. The food is sub par for most of the menu and and the service is not much better. I've sat with a group for almost 40 minutes to get a overcooked buffalo chicken sandwich that basically tasted like it was thrown together from across the room. The decor is nice but there are other places in NoHo that I would rather go to if given the choice.

I've been to FitzWilly's a whole bunch of times and I'm not quite sure why I keep coming back. Food: Nothing to write home about. I am a spinach & artichoke lover and was extremely disappointed with it here. The chips were stale and the dip just looked kind of gross. My meal was just ok and the new menu leaves much to be desired. Service: GREAT! The servers definitely make up for the not-so-great food. All in all, you're not missing anything if you don't have a meal here. If you must go to FitzWilly's, enjoy a beer because they have a great selection.

I genuinely like the concept of this place. The fact that they try to at least incorporate seafood dishes and now BBQ is an effort I can acknowledge. To whom ever is operating the fryer, please take note that your wings are overcooked , dry, and minimally sauced because its trying so hard to suck the moisture back into it. And the whole belly clams, too dark, chewy, I'm lucky to experience the few bellies that made an appearance. Having not already burst in the fryer...and what is this trend with poppy seeds in the coleslaw? No thanks

Food has been excellent lately. Lunch service tends to be faster and more attentive than dinner. Drink menu is worth a stop in, appetizers are divine. Decently priced.

I'm not quite sure what they are trying to do with their decor, but I'm a fan of their food and service, and quite honestly, that's really all that matters when it comes down to it for me, an out-of-towner looking for a good meal during a short stay. I enjoyed my seafood stuffed mushrooms, though not really sure if I totally dug the Swiss cheese topping (but certainly didn't mind it overall.) Had a delicious pasta dish with proscuitto and asparagus and a light cream sauce, and while it did not hold a candle to its likeness at an Italian restaurant, it certainly held its own. The menu is diverse and fun and nothing is too expensive or outlandish. I would highly recommend it to anyone such as myself who is planning on passing through the area and needs a good place to sit down and eat and take a break for a bit.

This restaurant is racist. Our family (African and black) went to have lunch after graduation but since skin color was not suited they said without reservation they can not sit there till 2 PM although there were plenty tables and when my husband gave up and said "Let's go guys" and they said "You should". I was not there but my son who is 2.5 years old was there and experience first time racism at this place. Yes Northhampton might be white town but black people do have same color of money and this restaurant has such a terrible training for their employee. Never go there if you are not white.

Food is usually just ok. This place reminds me of an original Applebee's. Tonight we just had drinks and the nachos. Do not get the nachos...chips stale, cheese greasy, and salsa bland.

This was my first trip to Northampton, MA and this place was the first we selected for dinner. It was a Friday night and with some luck we were able to get a table right away with no waiting. Great atmosphere, good food, great service. There is a full bar in the restaurant or if you only want bar you can go next door to the Toasted Owl. The prices are reasonable and there is a variety of food to select. If your lucky you can get a table by the front window to sit and watch people pass by or just take in the town.

Whenever I'm passing through the Northampton area I make a point to stop at FitzWilly's. I've introduced several people to the restaurant over the years. FitzWilly's has been great at hosting a large group 3 times, the upper level is perfect for it. Parking would be the only downside here. The best appetizer that is worth the trip is their Gorgonzola & Garlic Bread. I will be very depressed if they ever stop serving that.

Warm and cozy pub with better than expected food: I had the appetizer of scallops wrapped in bacon with horseradish sauce. Normally food is never spicy enough for me, but these had a definite (surprising) kick to them. Yum! I also had a cup of their French Onion soup, which was gooey and very hearty. One of my friends had a big bowl of pasta with amazing fresh asparagus, and my other friend had the ahi salad which was huge and the veggies looked very crispy and fresh. The waitress was throrough if not super friendly. Only real gripe was that they don't give free reflls on iced tea. I'll admit that annoyed me, who charges for refills nowadays? Harumph. I would like to check this place out at night, I bet it would be really fun to drink too much and cause a ruckus here...

My friends and I, all college students, walked into Fitzwilly's and was nicely greeted by the hostess. She sat us down near the window seats where the air conditioner was blowing on us. A waitress came up to us and took our drink orders. Later when she returned with the drinks we asked for the dessert menu, so we could plan out our meal, and got the reply, "I'm not your waitress. XXXX will be with you shortly." Ok, would it have killed you to grab us the dessert menu? Methinks not. Rude. Today was my first time going into FitzWilly's of Northampton. My friends and I were all starving, so we started out with the FitzWilly's PuPu Platter. It came with 2 burger sliders, 2 potato skins, Spinach and Artichoke Dip and Chips and a skewer of shrimp. The shrimp was really good. But the other three, I've all had better at Friday's/Chili's/Applebees, and I believe that says a lot sadly. I started with the Onion Husk Soup, which had way too much cheese and too little husk. I ordered the Reuben sandwich with the fries. The fries were great, my favorite fries that can be found in any diner, now conveniently at FritzWilly's also! The sandwich was actually, not that bad! I've had a Reuben in other "fancier" places, but FitzWilly's was able to give me decent corned beef, sauerkraut, rye toast well that's actually toasted and, get this, cheese that is actually melted!! BUT, was definitely slacking on the dressing, so the sandwich was definitely dry. My friends ordered the Grandma's Turkey Sandwich and Southern Platter. The turkey sandwich was nothing special. It was what you ordered, turkey, in a sandwich. The Southern Platter contained ribs that were stuck to the bone, chicken that was dry, shredded pork that was overcooked, potato salad that was in dire need of more mayonnaise, and cornbread that was way too sweet. The service wasn't terrible, but needs to be worked on. Towards the end of our meals, a party that was sat in front of us waited so long, they left the very second the waiter arrived, ~15 minutes later. Our waiter was nice to us, but seemed timid towards approaching us, and was somewhat difficult to get a hold of after dropping off the meals. FitzWilly's was nice, but honestly nothing special. I would rather go to Chili's/Applebee's/Friday's, than come back.

I've been to Fitzwilly's countless times and I really am unsure why I keep going back, as far as food is concerned. To be clear, the bar atmosphere is pretty good and it's a good place to get a drink or two, but the food is atrocious. Many items look downright gross, and the ones that don't rarely taste good, unless they've been deep fried beyond recognition. It's pretty typical mediocre American food. No reason to go here unless you have some kind of special attachment to the place that goes above and beyond the food you'll get.

For the money, this is our favorite place in Northhampton - we never fail to stop here when visiting. Great pulled pork; best homemade baked beans I've had; house salad and sliders also great. Never been disappointed.

I didn't have high hopes for this place at first. It's super 70s/80s, and I felt like I was walking into the Regal Beagle. I went here at the recommendation of someone I don't know very well, who frequented it when she was an undergrad in the 80s. It definitely has that look. We shared an appetizer and dessert, which were both fantastic and reasonably priced. We had the asparagus tart special, which was fantastic! It was sort of a puff pastry pouch filled with asparagus and cheese. How can you go wrong with that? My steak was tender and well cooked, though a little bit on the spendy side. For dessert we had the best chocolate volcano cake I have ever had. It was so delicious! Usually those kinds of cakes are weak on the chocolate flavor, but this was perfect. It was rich and moist, with a deliciously fudgey molten center. The service was great too. Our waitress was super friendly and attentive without hovering. Overall it was pretty good, and much better than I was expecting. I don't know if I would go back anytime soon, since I don't have the budget to eat out very often and there are many other places I would try first. Actually, I might go back for the chocolate cake.

Went up prior to a show at The Calvin, enjoyed some cocktails at the bar and then we were seated. Had the calamari for an app, it was quite good. I had the burger and my wife had the hanger steak, both were excellent. A good pub type atmosphere, not too expensive and good service.

FitzWilly's offers an excellent combination of bar and restaurant, which allows for the ever important drink with every meal. I've only been for the restaurant portion, but I always switch up my meal - and have yet to be disapointed. Be sure to get the FitzWilly's card: it really pays off of you plan on returning, and it's FREE!

This is one of the worst places in Northampton. Northampton has so many good places to eat. The staff has always been slow or terrible. The burgers suck. It is trying to be as good as a Friday's or Crapplebees. Don't go here.

My Fiance and I stop in for lunch every couple of months on our way north. We go there because the food is consistent, fresh and we always have a nice variety of menu items to choose from. Fast and kind service, fair prices and good food. Try the Wicked Alfredo, Portabella Mushroom Sandwich or most anything else on the menu as we have never had a bad meal there yet.

One of my best buds grew up close to Northampton so I usually go home with him once or twice a year as a little city get-away. We were doing just that last week, and although we both fancy ourselves decent cooks and were cooking all weekend, we ventured out for 1 meal and landed here. The menu is quite extensive and there is also a very deep microbrew list. We went for lunch and each got a sandwich. I had a grilled chicken with a fatty portobello and roasted red peppers on focaccia. He had the pulled bbq pork with coleslaw on top. Both were solid. Service was good and the atmosphere is typical of an arty college town. I saw a few entree's go by and was happy I just went with the sandwich. This is the type of place where you just want to keep it simple.

I came here on a Sunday night, and it wasn't busy. The service was ok, nothing spectacular, but nothing offensive. The spinach dip from the pupu platter was too sour, and their shrimp had the wierdest texture I've ever encountered---kind of slimy and not meat-like at all. But everything else on it was acceptable; the sliders, chips, and wings. Burger was dry, though. My boyfriend ordered a burger and I got the crabcake patty. Burger was rock hard with no flavor. The crabcake I had was wierd and not even cohesive--it was like putty. That, and it had a wierd flavor. The only thing I liked about my meal was the fries. They were crispy outside and soft inside, and didn't need extra salt. Otherwise, skip Fitzwilly's. The food is way overpriced for something so sub-par. If you want a good burger, just go to Local Burger instead.

I have always enjoyed eating at Fitzwilly's. I don't usually like places with a pub atmosphere, but I've always found Fitzwilly's to be friendly and inviting. The last time my husband and I ate there, the waitresses (we had 2--the first one's shift ended, so she introduced us to the other one) were very friendly and very good with helping me figure out what to eat. I have dietary restrictions, so having helpful wait staff is extremely important. I had some kind of chicken smothered in cheese--not the healthiest thing ever, but it was so tasty! I don't remember what my husband got, but he liked it, too. I agree with those reviewers who have said that the prices are very reasonable for the area.

Ok food, neat atmosphere. I like sitting in the window (to the left of the front door as your in front of the building) or upstairs which is very cozy and intimate. Burgers are average, salads are ok, sandwiches are generally tasty but if you're looking for classy or exceptional this probably isn't your best bet. We've had great experiences with a couple of waitresses who have been really chatty (in a good way) and personable and attentive. Good if you're with a group who just wants lunchy American fare and/or drinks.

This is my favorite place to eat in Northampton. Me and my college roommate always go hear after we've had a few beers next door at the Dirty Truth. They have a good beer selection compared to many other restaurants (I suggest BBC Steel Rail) and their food is great. My go to dinner is shrimp and lobster alfredo. Their appetizers are also very good. The calamari is the best I've had and the potato skins are equally delicious. The atmosphere is generally very pleasent (disregarding the crying baby the first time I was there) and the staff is very friendly.

Stopped in Northampton on our way back from Vermont and decided to grab a bite to eat here. I had never gone, so this was a first for me and found it to be pretty good. I had a turkey sandwich with apple, which was absolutely delicious, and our waitress was refreshingly friendly and cheerful. I didn't mind the dated decor, as some have mentioned. I thought it gave the place character and found it to be cozy.

My husband and I had our first date here 8 years ago. It was valentines day, so we had to wait a long time, but the atmosphere was so great we didn't mind. I've been going to Fitzwilly's since I was at Smith College in the 80s. As far as I know, the menu was always the same and it was getting tired! Well, I went there with friends recently and they have a new menu! I was skeptical, but willing to try. I'm SO GLAD we went there! The new menu is great and completely updated. Contemporary and fresh and TASTY! The waitstaff was very helpful and upbeat, handling a special dietary need at our table with professionalism and caring. We all enjoyed our meals. I'm so glad that Fitzwilly's is back on my list of places in the valley to get a decent meal. This is a short list!

Not bad. It kind of has the atmosphere of one of those chain restaurants like Applebee's or The 99, but that doesn't bother me too much. The food was pretty good. I had the Wicked Alfredo which is penne pasta with chicken, spicy sausage, and red pepper alfredo sauce. It was good but nothing a amazing, the sausage was the best part, I wasn't impressed by the sauce. My girlfriend had the Chicken Parm which, from the small piece I had was pretty good. Prices range from about $12-$18 for an entree, depending on what you get. Average food, a cookie-cutter decor hurt, but reasonable prices redeem Fitzwilly's a little to earn it a 3.5 / 5

  • Megan M.

I'm a fan of Fitzwilly's. I've had a good meal every time I've come, which is a lot. The decor (or lack thereof) definitely leaves something to be desired, but, eh, it's easily overlooked. Definitely get the buffalo shrimp if you come here. They're terrific. Like buffalo wings, but shrimp. SO good. Now I'm craving it...great. I've had a ton of things on the menu, nothing specifically stands out, but I've always left a happy and satisfied customer. The service is always fine, nothing outstanding, but not bad either. I'm sure we'll make it a point to stop in when we're in the area.

fitzwilly's is a decent restaurant in a great location with the freshest, coldest BBC steel rail on tap. this is a very good place for groups, and i feel like it's the best place to go when you go to school in the area and your parents come to visit. i never did this, but it's a really good idea and it seems like this happens all the time. the menu is varied enough to please anyone, but this also poses as a slight problem, due to nothing really standing out. it's all great stuff, though. like, i think it works if you're craving pasta and your dining partner wants a burger like whoa, cause there are plenty of great ones. if you go in not knowing exactly what type of food you want, you may have a problem with the menu. service is as varied as the menu, but not in any way bad. we had to wait 20 minutes for a table, so we went to the bar. one of the bartenders was dutifully nice but not friendly. the other bartender was friendly, attentive, and super fast. the hostesses/waitresses were pleasant and accommodating but didn't do anything noteworthy. the appetizers are AMAZING. i'd say the appetizers are worth five tasty ass stars. definitely try the scallops wrapped in bacon, but don't let the talks of horseradish and spiciness steer you away if you're not into that stuff. it's a great mix of kick, but not kick-your-ass. the garlic bread is pretty ridiculous. it's flipped over, swimming in gorgonzola cheese in a reeeeeally good way, and is cooked/baked/toasted perfectly. i want more of that bread. now. the sliders are great, too. please note that, for two people who love to eat and usually excel at clearing huge portioned plates, we could have stopped at the three apps (scallops, bread, and one slider each). plus, there were more we wanted to try, so maybe next time we'll do 3 or 4 apps only. my boyfriend and i both got salads. he got one with seared, sesame-covered tuna on top. it was pretty spectacular. they did a great job preparing the fish and the flavors were spot on. i got the barbecue ranch chicken salad and i wish i hadn't, or at least had ordered it without cucumbers. i am in love with the rest of the ingredients (avocado, tomato, grilled corn, beans, and crispy onion "straws" [as in, not quite onion rings but close enough]) and figured they'd just toss a couple cucumber slices on there that i could push to the side. instead, the salad is served with all those ingredients in piles on top of the lettuce, and the cucumbers were chopped. this would have been a dream come true (just transfer the pile to my appetizer plate) but the whole salad somehow tasted like cucumber. it took away from the flavor of the avocado, which is the main reason i ordered the salad. i'm really not into cucumber so i was disappointed, but i know the salad would have been INCREDIBLE if i'd known better. i was unable to finish. three apps, two salads, and a couple beers each came to about $55. my bf paid with a $100 and only got about $25 back, so he had to go ask the hostess for twenty bucks. i'm definitely not saying they short change people on the regular, btdubs. just something to note. luckily, my bf and i are tightwads lately so we noticed right away. oh, and if it's a cold, rainy night and they try to seat you by the window, you may be uncomfortably chilly the whole time. maybe bring an extra layer just in case. also note that the tables near the window are super crowded and you may have trouble getting in and out of your chair if there's someone sitting behind you, so perhaps ask for a table elsewhere if these things bug you. despite my negativity, fitzwilly's is definitely worth another visit.

food borders on mediocre-bad....atmosphere is nice so its a shame the food isn't any good. Probably best to just stick to drinks here.

Decent selection - definitely an American family restaurant. My dad was the biggest fan. I agree that it an Applebee's knock-off, but service was quick and the atmosphere was casual and relaxed.
