First off, who doesn't love Friendly's !? It just brings you back to when you were a little kid and nothing else mattered besides what flavor you were going to get. This location gets pretty busy, but the staff is a tad on the slow side. Food is still decent, and the Icecream is good quality. I love when they have monthly / seasonal specials. I just had the munka chunka PB I believe it was called. Vanilla with Hot Fudge, PB, and PB chunks; SO GOOD !

Lazy staff that sits around the front counter eating food and screwing around while you wait 5 minutes to be served. They pulled a gallon out of the fridge that was for sale to serve my red velvet ice cream. I walked out at that point which was about 10 minutes into my visit. BTW they are technically open until 11 but the deadbeat staff turns off the exterior lights at 10pm. Avoid this place at all costs until the management and staff are replaced.

Some of you may recall my last review. Well, yesterday, (February 14.) I ventured in once more. The main course wasn't bad, but, can you guess what was waiting in my dessert? Go on, guess. Two long peices of hair. Yuck. Anyway, I don't plan to go back there anymore as there are Friendly's all around us in New England and this one will be off my list of decent ones.

Everytime I decide to go to Friendly's, I make sure I have ample time allocated to cover the whole experience. That is, I find that all Friendly's run at a very "deliberate" pace. The visit to the Lawrence location was no exception to this seemingly proven rule. I decided to satisfy my sweet tooth on a Sunday evening and was seated at 7pm at the Lawrence restaurant. My mission was to order my long-time, guilty pleasure, the Jim Dandy sundae and I was alone which, despite my prior experience with Friendly's, I naively thought may make this particular visit different. Once seated, I waited for 15 minutes before anyone even came by my booth to take a drink order. After watching another table get seated and then have their orders placed in front of me, a waitress finally came by and apologized for the delay. Not sure if they figured I was waiting for someone to join me, but this initial delay quickly dispelled my notion that this visit to Friendly's was going to be different from the others. I placed my order and the waitress again apologized for the inconvenience of waiting so long. Ultimately, my server, Victoria was very personable and dare I say "Friendly" so I have to add a star for that. After about 10 more minutes, my sundae arrived, though it wasn't quite what I remembered from my youth (or even just a couple years ago). The sundae just wasn't as large as I've had previously, and the amount of ice cream was disproportionally small compared to the toppings/bananas. Additionally, no hot fudge; just chocolate syrup, which was disappointing. In the end, the sundae was merely so-so and by the time I got the bill, the whole experience was up to 45 minutes; that's Friendly's for ya! Had the sundae been better, the wait would've been more excusable. Though, to reiterate, my server Victoria did a very good job and was very attentive once she was made aware of my presence; not sure exactly where the blame falls for those first 15 minutes. Overall, this experience goes down as a 2.5 (rounded up to a 3) out of 5, though I can't say I wouldn't give this location another try. I guess I just have a nostalgic, soft spot for this franchise, despite my underwhelming experiences in recent years.

I usually don't like Friendly's service due to lack of customer service and no consideration in how long they take to bring the food over to the customer. But.... I am here now and can say the complete opposite. Our waitress Crystal, is flipping AMAZING. Her service is applauding... short, sweet and to the point, but most of all friendly and she's got the hang of making the customer few important. Her service deserves at 5 star. I can't encourage you more but to get this waitress. Overall the place looks great, up to date and the team looks great. They have a great staff since the last time I've been here. Now I'll enjoy my sundae while you debate whether or not to come or not.

Compared to the other Friendly's I have been to in the area, this one isn't as packed with people. The service was extremely slow even then and the management doesn't seem to care. Our waiter could barely be heard and he won't be getting a tip.

I've been a long time customer of this particular Friendly's for a good 25+ years now and through two or three renovations due to flooding and 3 crappy remodeling a and paint jobs and not until recently have I had a complaint. A week ago I bought 2 five scoop sundaes and when I got home And checked the bag I thought they had made a mistake because they looked like small or medium sized ice creams so I brushed it off and enjoyed my ie cream. Today I go again and they give me the same small/medium sized cup for a supposed 5 scoop sundae. So I ask the kid at the counter if this is a 5 scoop twice just to make sure he heard me and he said yes. What bothers me the most about this is that the 5 scoop sundaes were twice the size that they are now with twice the ice cream and toppings. Mind you I paid close to $8 for this so the price hasn't changed and when I go in to eat ice cream the sizes are still the same. The only thing different is the To Go sizes. Well, long story short I don't plan on buying any more To Go ice cream ever again until they bring back the original sizes and stop being stingey/greedy. There's no need for this. Service is okay @ best.

I had the late-night munchies while staying at the HI Express across the parking lot from this place... so I made it over and grabbed a bite. I was waited on by a very competent and friendly tanned Latina named Ivelis. I had the grilled Reuben sandwich with fries and a clam chowder. It hit the spot, what can I say? Food was just okay - not great, but the service was excellent. It was second time in this place in a year... and it looks like they have made some upgrades to the facility - which was nice to see. The best part about this joint was that it is so conveniently located to where I was staying, and is open late.

This is the WORST Friendly's location I have ever been to. I came on a Sunday night around 8:30 p.m. with my 6 and 8 year old boys and literally waited at the counter for TEN minutes for someone to seat us (there was NO one in line in front of us and PLENTY of empty (and dirty) tables. Meanwhile, waiters and waitresses kept walking by, running back and forth between their tables and making ice cream...all the while, totally ignoring us. I finally had to flag down someone to ask if they were going to seat us - and the first girl blew me off. I flagged a gentleman down and he said to give him a few minutes b/c he had to clean a table off - which from my point of view at the front of the restaurant, was entirely necessary b/c although there were plenty of empty tables and booths, ALL of them were filled with dirty dishes. I had walked in to this same location a few months ago b/c my boys were craving ice cream, so I thought it would be a quick and easy stop. I could not have been more wrong - it took over 15 minutes to get two ice cream cones! Nothing fancy or crazy...they were way understaffed and totally inefficient. Management is totally lacking here - the staff was running around like their heads were cut off and the place was a total mess. The only reason why I'm giving this two star is b/c the waitress we finally got was very sweet and was efficient - plus, my kids enjoyed their food and sundaes.

How is it possible that this place is in business? My husband and I stopped in on a Saturday night for dessert. I expected the Friendly's I remembered from the 1980's - you know, really great sundaes made with ice cream. This experience was far from that nostalgic reminiscence. To start, they do not serve ice cream at all, but some kind of frozen, artificially-flavored, sugar-infused substance that lacks flavor, texture, and everything you desire when you crave ice cream. Secondly, $5.99 is not exactly a bargain, even for a decent sundae. This place was a total waste of money. Seriously, skip this lack luster experience and just buy a gallon of ice cream from the grocery store and enjoy the ambience of your own living room; It'll far surpass anything you'll get here.

Just arrived from Los Angeles so I went here because it was walking distance from my hotel. There was kind of a stale smell that I noticed when I walked in but after a while it got easier. I did not read the Yelp reviews until after I had ordered. The service was quick and friendly... thank you for the great service Maria. The food was only OK. I had the fried chicken sandwich special. The cheese was not melted fully. The veges on the sandwich did seem fresh. It definitely beat fighting the cold and the traffic to go out further.

Despite of bad experience from other Friendly's, I went there with my two boys just because my son got a free icecream coupon and we were near by. Absolutely, it was a mistake!! People are not FRIENDLY nor PROFESSIONAL!! We walked in and wait for someone to seat us but no one came even though there are few workers on the left side of the restaurant saw us coming in. Not even a word!! "Hi", "Hello", "How are you?", or "Someone will seat you in a minute". Since no one seems to come, I decided to grab a table bymyself. And after we sat down, this lady yelled from the podium asked me if we ONLY have 3 people because we were sitting down at the 6 people table ( it was lunch time and wasn't busy anyway). Some other workers were laughing when she said the sarcastic words!! When she brought menu, the first thing she said to me was, " Just wanted to let you know, we usually seat people", so I told her, " No one was there so I sat down". At the point, I really didn't want to stay and have lunch anymore so I decided to leave. Because who knows what they are going to do with the food we order. I'm glad we left because we went to somewhere else and the food and the service was great!! I wish I could give this place 0 rating!! I will stay away from any Friendly's because people are very rude!! I bet, you'll get better customer service and food from fast food chain than Friendly's!! I wounder who is responsible for hiring? They can't find no FRIENDLY servers?? What a shame!!

We ate here today for breakfast/lunch and it was excellent from start to finish. The place is very nice inside, clean and nice bright colors. There is also an old fashion ice cream bar, something from by gone years. The staff is very friendly, we were pleasantly greeted when we arrived and thanked when we left, (something that seems to happen less and less these days). Our server was excellent, we got our drinks and food quickly and all of our meals were made perfectly. My husband got a super melt and I got eggs benedict, both were fresh and very tasty, and his waffle fries were addicting. My daughters got the fried fish plate and M&M pancakes and both were again, very good. Considering the array of entree's, we were quite impressed, and our very nice waitress made the meal enjoyable. We will definately be back!

Would give a 0 star if I could! We got seated quickly, and our order got taken quickly. However, this was the end of the pros of this experience. The menus were dirty and had food slopped on them. The table was also a little dirty. It took about 30 minutes to get the food we ordered, and the waitress never even checked on us during that time. People who ordered food after us with different waitresses got their food before us. We were about to stand up and leave, when our waitress wandered by, looked at our table and muttered "where's your food?" under her breath. We stayed, thinking the food would come. About 10 minutes later, the food finally showed up. My husband got the three appetizer platter (quesadillas, sliders, and loaded waffle fries). The portions were tiny! Three tiny pieces of quesadilla, two sliders which were missing half of the toppings stated on the menu, and about 8 fries with "melted" cheese and sour cream on them. The cheese was hard. The platter of food had been obviously sitting under a warming lamp for quite a while. At that point we were starving, so we ate the food rather than complaining more (it would have just delayed our stay even longer!). Our waitress never even came by again to check on if our food was okay, or how we were doing. Another long delay to get our bill. Looks like we will not be making any more trips to Friendly's!! I would rather pay the same amount of money down the road at Fuddrucker's and get better food.

Friendly's is one chain that I do like, a New England home grown chain. I love the melt sandwiches with grilled bread. This location the waitresses are all sweet young kids who all seem happy your there and do a great job. I also love that you can get a ice cream sundae for desert, ask for it in a to-go cup so you can bring it home if you cannot finish. This restaurant Is open 11PM. Sad to see how everything shuts down so early around the area.

  • Kate G.

I have to say that today's lunch at Friendly's was just what we needed after a busy morning. The waitress was great, the food was cheap and the place as a whole was nicely kept and well run. The portions of everything were gigantic, and I had to bring food home. The only bummer is that this location shares a parking area, can't really call it a lot, with a Holiday Inn Express and a Dunkin Donuts so the parking is never ever fun. And to get a good deal you do need to buy a whole meal otherwise you wind up paying $4 for a small sundae and that is no bargain. This is my go-to when I am craving a Happy Ending Sundae or a Fribble. Just wish I could have gotten hold of a pair of their 3-D glasses to play the game they had throughout the store. But I guess I lost that privilege after I hit 13, 13 years ago. Sad.
