This place is very good and I enjoy the warm bread before my meal. Some people enjoy the olive oil mix with the bread, but it's great either way. We have not asked for second servings of the bread, so I can't comment on their denials for ''seconds.'' I enjoy the breaded chicken dish which comes with french fries that are fresh and not greasy. One major complaint I have is that the waiters/bartenders do not put sugar around the rim of the glass for all nonalcoholic drinks, as they are described in the menu. We have to ask repeatedly for this to be done and we normally get a roll of the eyes. However, that is how the drink is described in the menu. I can't figure out why they continue not to prepare the drink as listed.

It's a chain place. Let's start off with the bread. It was stale and cold. How could you bring out cold bread? I ordered the salmon, and it was terrible. Not even edible, we sent it back and had them take it off the bill. Everyone else's food was also not good. Service was terrible. Save your money and eat somewhere else.

FANTASTIC! My new fav restaurant. Online reservations = efficiet. Server (sarah) = attentive & friendly. Guacamole = fresh & tasty. Wedge salad= unique, delicious dressing. Passionfruit sorbet = mouthwatering!

Somehow every time I come home, I end up going to NYAJ. I'm pretty sure the only reason I end up here is because of its convenient location in the Cape Cod Mall. Although the food is decent, there are many other speciality restaurants around that do just as good, or better a job, at fusion dishes. Plus Im all for supporting the local businessman in a wounded economy. That being said, I ended up here for Saturday brunch with my mother. I ordered their garden salad with grilled chicken and lo-cal zinfandel. Considering NYAJ tries to infuse its dishes with interesting flavors, I was hoping it would have some pizzaz in it, something I wouldn't expect, but nevertheless it was a standard garden salad. The lettuce was iceberg and it had a few chopped onions, tomatoes and cucumbers in it. It was also topped with shredded mozzarella cheese. Basically, I could have pulled these ingredients out of my fridge and made this at home. I'm also aware that I could have ordered many other interesting dishes on the menu, however I was attempting to eat healthfully, which NYAJ is not conducive to. Alongside my blah salad, I ordered a fruity sangria. I was pleasantly surprised at its size and price. Typically Sangria comes in a wine glass but this sangria came in a standard soda/water glass. It was a bit sweet, albeit tasty. Unfortunately my sangria did not redeem my NYAJ experience. The server made some rookie mistakes. I asked if I could have a side of butternut squash since it seems to be a popular ingredient on the menu. He said he would ask the chef, and then came back to tell me although plain butternut squash is available, they could not give me any since they didn't have enough of it for their dishes that call for it. Although honesty is key in any relationship, why would you bother to tell me? Just lie and say its already mixed into your dishes or something. Don't get my hopes up waiter boy! I was pretty disappointed after that.

We went to Joe's at the Cape Cod Mall and it really was excellent. The server was attentive and always showed up at the table exactly when we needed him. There was a woman vacuuming around our table prior to us being sat. The place was exceptionally clean. The manager was seen walking around keeping an eye on things. This is a well-run place. The bread and oil was so delicious. Mustard-crusted chicken is always reliable! Joe's Jungle Juice was also delicious. We are definitely going again soon!!!

We hadn't eaten at Joe's for a couple of years and took a chance while it was still Summer (crowds around a mall), but it turned out great. They start you off with great tasting bread and serve dipping oil by mixing oil, grated Parmesan cheese and red pepper flakes. Simply terrific! We had the crab cake appetizer and it was hot, very flavorful and had a nice sauce on top along with fresh greens. I had the sirloin meatloaf with garlic mashed potatoes and green beans. My wife had mustard encrusted chicken. We were both quite full when we finished. No room for desert. Food was great, service quick and courteous. Prices are quite reasonable for the quality and quantities. We wondered why we stayed away so long.

This is my favorite restaurant on Cape Cod. Since I live here, we try to go once every other month. The service is friendly; prices are reasonable; menu is different. They change the menu and add new and different dishes.. Only complaint is they seem to delete dishes that I really enjoy, ie. Voodoo Shrimp appetiser. If you join their email club you receive a coupon for a FREE meal and dessert on your birthday month...

We loved this restaurant and it was very conveniently located in the Cape Cod Mall. The chicken in mustard sauce was absolutely awesome. This place was high on our list of great places to eat.

Consistently good food...not as much with the customer service. Okay, for a chain, this place is pretty good. I'm a repeat customer and I'll go back because I know the food is reliably decent. That said, my experiences on the customer service side the past couple of times have been lacking. One time, over the winter, my friend and I sat at one of the bar tables. They had the door to the mall propped open and it was blowing in cold air. Despite requests to shut it, they response was along the lines of 'not my problem'. More recently, a bunch of my friends and I went there for an impromptu dinner party. Our server was fine, no complaints. My frustration was with management. We got there after nine and granted, the close time on the door is 10pm. But they shut the place down around us as we were having our desert. It's one thing to prepare the restaurant to close - I've worked in the biz, I know the deal - another entirely to shut off the music and give an atmosphere of 'time to go home', especially when it wasn't too much after 10pm. Generally, the hours of an establishment denote when the kitchen is open 'till, not the front of the house. I was a server and I always expected I and the management would stay as long as my last table was enjoying their meal. Not only did the manager not acknowledge our bewildered 'wth' looks after turning off the music but he scurried off to do his manager duties in a way that conveyed that he just wanted to get the hell out of there. Not once when I've been to this place has management popped over with a 'hello, how is everything' or something similar on the way out. Maybe I'm being snooty, but I think the best way to cultivate good customer relations is to go that extra step and make your customers feel valued. On the plus side, my more recent food experience was, as always, awesome.

Always enjoy eating at NYAJ's. Tonight was no exception, but I'm on a diet, so no yummy bread dipped in herbed olive oil for me. Ahi tuna salad, yum, and libation was, alas, unsweetened ice tea. Our server, Heather, was attentive, and our wait for the meal was short. We got there around 5:30 and when we left at 6:15, the place was full with a wait. In and out in 45 minutes, not bad after a long day of work!

Specifically came here because of the gluten free menu. Was very excited , as there are not many gluten free options when eating out. I misunderstood what the server had said to me, and ended up eating a giant cube of regular bread. I knew it was too good to be true. When the manager came out with the 'gluten free' roll, I was shocked. I couldn't believe I ate all that regular bread. The manager was very apologetic , thank god I have a gluten intolerance and not a gluten allergy! The waitress was also very apologetic. I ordered the lettuce wraps for dinner. They were a little dry, but when I added additional dressing they were better. my fiancé had the pulled pork pretzel bites, which he said were very dry. He also had the crab cake sandwich, the crab itself was okay but it lacked flavor and the bun was terrible. Fries were bad too! service was good, and I guess you could say that the name of the restaurant says it all... 'Average' ! not great!

I love Not Your Average Joe's! They have a number of locations in Boston metro, and I think the one on the Cape opened within the past few years. Have been to the Watertown, Mass. location more times than I can remember and it is always a fun time. Their menu has a lot of variety, and flavor and is reasonably priced. The portions are generous and service is friendly. Go there!

I learned about Not Your Average Joe's through their ad in one of the local travel magazines, and was attracted to its emphasis on "creative casual cuisine". The restaurant, which is located at Cape Cod Mall, looks great from the outside. We quickly reviewed their menu at the door and decided to break for an early lunch before getting to Downtown Hyannis. I had the balsamic glazed atlantic salmon filet ($11.95), and it was fantastic! My wife also liked her half salad/half soup combination ($7.95). Kid's menu items are $4.50, which comes with a cup of ice cream but no drinks. The restaurant also serves sandwiches and burgers, pastas and pizzas. I later found out that they have fourteen other locations in Massachusetts (mainly in the suburbs) and one in Virginia. After trying out lots of other New England chain restaurants during my trip, I find this small chain to be the best of all the ones that I have tried! Bottom Line: Great, causal restaurant with good food at very reasonable prices.

One of our favorites! The seared tuna on wontons is fantastic! Great flavor and depth. A bit spicy but delightful! Their fresh bread is flavorful, as well as the garlic infused olive oil to dip with. I've never had a bad meal there.

We ended up here for a late dinner almost at random. The food was reasonable but the atmosphere was pretty fake. The tomatoes on the salad weren't ripe and the burger was overcooked and largely unseasoned. That being said, it wasn't the worst dining experience you can expect at a place attached to a mall.

  • Jennifer S.

for a chain restaurant that's attached to a mall, the food is surprisingly good. the menu is really unique, ie: more than just boneless wing and fajita platters. i had flank steak w/ roasted sweet potato fries. what stood out the most about this place is that the food actually tasted fresh. it was well prepared and seasoned and lacked the artificial pre-packed taste that most chain restaurants seem to have.

one of the only "chains" I will go to. Joes is consistently good and never fails to deliver a delicious meal & unique drinks. As I'm sure you have read in every other review for Joes, the bread and dipping oil is to die for. I would leave happy just after that. For cocktails, the seasonal sangria is always yummy. If they happen to have the strawberry rhubarb sangria, GET IT!! It is truly a treat! The margaritas are also good made with all fresh juices instead of sour mix and they are huge! Perfect bang for the buck! For appetizers; we tried the Ahi tuna wontons which were extremely flavorful. Sesame crusted tuna sashimi on a crispy wonton smothered in wasabi aioli, ginger and a sweet eel sauce. (Pictured) yum! The mustard crusted chicken is amazing; and is what I usually get. Two chicken breasts with Panko mustard and a yummy dipping sauce. Served with creamy garlic mashed potatoes and flavorful green beans. You can see why I don't sway from that entree when I come here. The Caribbean buffalo chicken pizza is also extremely flavorful and I would recommend it. Enjoy joes!

We ordered take out from here and I don't know why anyone would CHOOSE to go here with all the other options on the Cape. The alfredo pasta was bland and overpowered with flour and lemon taste. I have never met an alfredo I didn't like.. until now. The focaccia was very hard on the crust... and standard focaccia otherwise. The steak tips and mashed potatoes were normal. Bland mashed. Chewy fatty cuts of steak tips. Breaded chicken entrée was SUPER greasy and barely edible. For the price, go somewhere else!

Last Saturday, I brought some friends who were visiting from Florida to NYAJs, because it has always been my favorite restaurant. I raved about their veggie burger (with beets in it!) and their warm bread and delicious dipping sauce. My sister raved about their gluten free bread and gluten free menu. As soon as we started eating, I felt so silly for raving. The food was all so different, the bread was cold and not very good, my sister's gluten free buns were nothing like they used to be, and my burger was a thin and beet-less mess! I am heart broken. What ever you did, NYAJ, undo it please. I feel like I've been broken up with. My favorite restaurant on earth is gone, replaced with a mediocre one. We'll be back when you go back to whatever business model you were practicing previously..... RIP NYAJ. PS. the sweet little blonde waitress with the accent was adorable and the only reason I do not regret spending money here.

Outstanding staff, food & general environment. Fresh bread & XVOO come quickly after sitting down to munch on. I've gone to this location a few times, each time trying something new. I haven't been disappointed yet & neither has my company. Prices are very reasonable & the cooks are very creative. Great place for a date !

Not too sure what happened tonight. This place used to be my go-to but after the mediocre food this evening it has me second guessing that decision. I shared an appetizer of spring rolls and asked for the veggie burger as an entree. The spring rolls were decidedly not freshly prepared, were still deeply chilled in the middle and the rice paper was thick and barely flexible. Not sure if it was a function of being too deeply chilled, but the wrapper and ingredients (noodles, asparagus, carrots) were dry and didn't mesh together at all. The saving grace was the peanut and cilantro sauce - that was exceptional and made the appetizer palatable. The veggie burger didn't hold up well to the bun. Fell apart after the first bite and the patty didn't have any texture or real flavor at all. The whole grain (while appreciated) bun overpowered the patty in terms of both flavor and volume. I don't know what I was expecting but it was not this. Don't get me wrong, this wasn't a make or break event. Certainly willing to give them another shot, the service from Elina was great and truly appreciate the 15% military discount.

"I've experienced better" is totally right .... I had some time to kill at the Cape Cod Mall and I figured I would pop into Joe's for lunch. I've never had a really bad meal at Joe's but I've never had a great one. I always thought of them to be consistent. At any rate, the restaurant is located within the mall, but you feel like a rat chasing cheese through the maze of alleys and corners one must traverse to get to the restaurant. I saddled up to the bar and waited ... and waited. I almost left. I finally got my drink and ordered the mustard crusted chicken (I keep saying I'll try something new, but it has yet to happen). The entree came about 15 minutes later and "pan-fried" was a mistake. It was like a giant hockey puck. Lots of breading and not a lot of mustard. Fortunately, the fresh green beans were a nice touch! However, what really made it a two-star review (and not to the fault of the restaurant per se) ... were the other customers. Seriously, where do some of these people come from? One guy was arguing with the bartender as to why he couldn't order a round of shots (at 11 a.m. on a Saturday morning). The guy next to me wouldn't shut the hell up although I politely told him I would like to be left alone. When I put my credit card on the bar to pay my tab, he actually GRABBED IT and examined it to find out what type of AMEX card it was. I couldn't wait to get out of there. Inconsistent food. Weird patrons. No thanks.

Went in with my son before the movies. Beat the food court. I got a Cobb salad which was good but may have been great if they had chopped the romain a bit smaller and tossed the greens with the dressing before building the salad. They used a high quality bacon and blue crumbles were big chunks. Blue cheese dressing was probably home made. My son got pasta with marinara sauce which he really liked. We have been there many times and will continue to do so.

Was just looking for a good place to watch a baseball game and stopped by this place. When I walked in I noticed that it looked much nicer than I was expecting - cool vibe for a resto-bar. I actually had quite a bit of time to notice the decor because no one said anything to me for the first 5 minutes I was there... The hostess even walked by me twice without even acknowledging me. I almost walked out but I was more concerned about the score of the game than my ego and eventually the bartender asked me if I needed a menu. He was cool and helped me out. Food was solid, bread with oil was clutch - exactly what I wanted. NYAJs has decent food but it's hard to overcome the poor service so I'll probably just check out a different place next time.

Great service, good food, reasonable prices..filthy bathrooms. Visited Not Your Average Joes again, this time with a party of seven. Great service, very attentive waiter ( his name was Matthew) good food, good prices..again with the bathrooms..but I'm attributing it to messy patrons of the restaurant, who chose to throw paper towels on the bathroom floor instead of the trashcan.

The most inconsistent NYAJ ever. Every time I come in here and order the same dish I had the last time it ALWAYS looks different and has a different assortment of ingredients when the menu hasnt changed. The "chef" here really needs to be trained to NYAJ standards because I frequent the watertown location where the food is much better and is worth the price. Came in to Hyannis location last week and ordered the saffron cod over pan seared crab cake in "lobster corn chorizo" broth. Broth was so fatty that it left marks around the edges of the plate and left a residue in my mouth. Fish had ZERO seasoning and tasted like nothing, needed salt BADLY. Crab cake was absolutely disgusting, it was mushy and tasted fishy, couldnt even eat it. There was hardly and corn in the broth and certainly no lobster flavor. Chorizo is an excellent accompaniment with white fish.......too bad there wasnt any here. There appeared to be cubed sausage or linguica in the sauce, the same they use in the jambalaya, it was not the beautiful red chorizo you would expect. The line cooks here and the chef do not know how to send out a good looking plate of food or how to simply sear a piece of fish without scraping it out of the pan and completely destroying the crust (the goal of a sear). This wouldnt be so bad if I wasnt paying $22 for this unpleasent dinner (see pictures) Hire a new kitchen staff. Wont even go on about the 25 minute ticket times.

NYAJ is an excellent casual dining option at the Hyannis mall. Let me Start by saying that every order at this restaurant is preceeded by a bowl of amazing bread and a side dip of olive oil, spices, and parmesan cheese. This stuff alone is worth the trip. It is to die for. The actual entrees here vary in quality but typically you cannot go wrong. I've gotten salads, soups, burgers, and steaks, all have been phenomenal. I'm currently waiting an ahi tuna salad and I will definitely post a pic when it cones. Overall, this is a great place to check out and not just a mall convenience trap.

I've eaten here three times. Thie restaurant delivers consistently good meals, with excellent service, at a very reasonable price for the Cape. I'm a hamburger guru and AJ prepares a tasty hunk of ground beef. I order my burgers medium rare (yeah, I know, not always a safe bet). The burger/bacon/cheeseburger I had tonight was right on the mark. Perfectly cooked. I didn't care for the fries that came with the burger. They weren't quite hot enough and a bit chewy. I barely touched them. I would have given a five-star review if not for that. The waitstaff was well deserving of the 20 percent I'm always happy to tip for good service. The check came on a clipboard on which there was glued an Apple iPod. A bit unusual presentation to say the least. The iPod was opened to a survey app. I almost never bother with surveys but I went along and filled this one out. It was partly curiosity and novelty. It was also partly an appreciation of the management honestly wanting to know what their customers thought about the meal and service immediately after finishing the meal. I've never really had a chance to offer my impressions of a restaurant on the spot and I must admit, I liked being able to do so. On the Cape, good restaurants at prices commensurate with the food and service are as rare as gemstones from Mars. AJ is an exception. The restaurant is in the CC Mall and overlooks the very busy parking lot. It's not scenic but the food and service make up for it. It's one of the few restaurants that I would recommend for casual dining.

We had a great time here! Great bread and olive oil to start. Waiter was very timely. Refilled drinks before needed each time. Wrapped up food which was a nice touch. We got the southwest egg rolls which were every steak filled but flavor didn't totally wow me not sure they go with mustard. Bf loved the of course, this is a very manly egg roll! Got the mustard crusted chicken which was pretty good, honestly a little average lol but no issues and came in a reasonable amount of time. Presentation was really nice, atmosphere was really good. The service is the reason to come it is not something you often on cape cod.

Joe's is surprisingly average for something who claims not to be. I will break this review into things that are above average, average, and below average, in honour of their name. Above Average: Their bread and olive oil is like crack. Maybe they put actual crack in it, that would explain the huge drug problem on Cape Cod. Their catering is also above average, everything I've had catered from them is fantastic. There are an above average number of menu choices as well. The fact that they have a gluten-free menu with more than steak and baked potatoes on it is above average. Average: Their prices are average. Their food is in general pretty average. There's absolutely nothing wrong with it, but it's not incredible.Their drink size/value is average. Some interesting cocktails, some gross ones, altogether average. Service is also average, I have never had an issue but I've never had anyone stand out to me. Below average: Wait time. There is very often a wait, but it's a mediocre restaurant in the mall so that goes without saying. I just don't get people who would wait a half hour to eat here, personally. Children's meals are also below average. I think they're overpriced and the quality is atrocious. I introduce the "wiggly chicken fingers" as exhibit A. Chicken fingers should never flop, wiggle, or fall over limp like a... well you know. In conclusion, don't believe everything you read on the internet. Despite the name, it is quite average indeed. I do enjoy eating here if there is no wait and I'm not ordering chicken fingers.

We just left here! We were celebrating my birthday and I had a GREAT time. Our server Josh was really nice and really funny. I had the mustard crusted chicken and a pomegranate fizz which were both delicious! If you're going I STRONGLY suggest the creme brûlée cheesecake it is literally the best dessert I have EVER eaten. THANKS GUYS! (Also! The prices may be higher than I normally like to spend but the portions are always worth the price.)

My boyfriend and I have visited a few times over the past couple years and have never been disappointed. The quesadilla and pulled pork sandwich are very good and worth trying! Fresh bread with olive oil is fantastic plus free with your meal! All the servers seem friendly. I also highly recommend the margarita. After a 7 hour drive to cape cod it was just what I needed! :)

It's in a mall, but that doesn't mean it isn't good. Decor is your standard "Look how trendy we are!" Think Cheesecake Factory but with more primary colors. Layout is a little tight. Especially the entrance from within the mall, which takes you practically behind the bar before you get to the floor. And if there is a crowd, trying to get to the hostess (going through the bar tables) is very annoying. Every meal starts out with super soft farmer's style bread served with oil and parmesan. So simple, but so good. Food is pretty good. Sometimes they try to be a little fancier than necessary. For example, I often get the quesadilla, which is great, but I ask for the "pineapple-cilantro salsa" and "guacamole drizzle" on the side. Bcs dumped on the dish turns it into mish-mash of flavor and texture that does not please. Similarly I got the squash canneloni, which turned out to be weird pasta tubes filled with squash puree, served on a bed of mega garlicky wet spinach, and topped with a couple teaspoons of cranberry-teriyaki sauce. So: pasta, squash, garlic, spinach, cranberry, teriyaki. All on one plate. Yuck. But that was the only bad meal I had. The veggie burger is ok. Nothing to write home about. The veggie spring rolls are great. The tomato-basil soup was surprisingly flavorful. Best of all, unlike places that are strict about no substitutions, NYAJ is actually really good about letting you make changes. In fact they encourage it. I think that's a really cool philosophy. And it probably explains why their chefs get a little haphazard with ingredients. ;) Oh and bottomless lime rickeys. Awesome.

Really wanted to like this place, casual atmosphere, decent looking menu, close to the hotel I was staying at. 1st night sat at bar, and though I was one of 4 people sitting at the bar (and 2 bartenders) service was slow and haphazard. The food is average at best, even for basics. Not a horrible experience, but nothing to go out of the way for.

Haven't been to one of this restaurant's outposts in years, last time in Needham...and don't recall being wowed...but my recent dinner truly impressed me! Pleasant surprise. Varied menu and reasonably priced. Pan-seared cod was super fresh and perfectly cooked. Better than any fish I've tried in a long time in the land of Cod. And the fries on the side were hot and not the coated-type. Hubby liked his meatloaf, but wasn't in love with the bbq sauce. Service was excellent, just the right amount of attention. Can't say I'm a regular visitor to this mall, but when in the area, will definitely return. And the Wednesday special is a great deal: two entrees and a bottle of wine for $40!

Wonderful, wonderful wonderful. Do not let the mall location fool you- this is great food at an even better price. We have been several times and always have amazing service. The Harvest Pork was some of the most tender, well seasoned pork, and was presented beautifully. We had a lovely surprise when our waitress, Tara, brought me a small sample of their pumpkin apple bisque after I waffled against getting it (in the cutest little cup to boot). Always great service, and amazing food. A tip that we enjoyed- if they are packed you can leave your cell phone with the hostess and they will text you when your table is ready: a nice excuse to get some shopping done instead of waiting in line! Will be back again soon.

I'm giving this place 3 stars because the first time we came to this place it was outstanding a well deserved 5 star spot. I was so excited to revisit this spot expecting the same excellent food and service. But I was horribly disappointed which is why I am here writing in . First off their "fresh fruit sangeria " was completly watered down and was served with ONE rotten blueberry in my glass. The bread was harder than my head and the salmon entree I ordered tasted like it came out of a freezer package then was served to me burnt . I would not come back to here ever again. Disappointed is the word.

First time coming to this place. My fiancé and I were shopping and decided to grab a few apps and a drink. We were expecting typical chain restaurant food and service, however we were pleasantly surprised. The ahi tuna appetizer and buffalo tenders were delicious. The server was very friendly. Great place for a rainy day.

Ummm, my green beans were good. The drinks were OK. There ends the positive part of the review. It was very bad. THE GORY DETAILS: At our first visit, a few weeks ago, we expressed some frustration to the manager about the wording of the movie night promotion. He gave us two $5 coupons to return again. (see my previous review). We arrived around 7:30 and asked to sit in the bar area, and were shown a small table in the walkway, so we asked if we could sit at a vacated but still dirty table against the wall. First mistake. There were several dirty tables waiting to be cleaned. "Sure, no problem, wait over here." 20 minutes later, we wished we had just taken the first one. Our waitress was sweet and good natured, but everything took a very long time. I tried a hot pepper margarita ($8) that was basically too sweet and only mildly spicy. It was OK. My friend had a premium margarita that arrived with some gran marnier floating in an inside-out lime ($9).He said it was OK and he got a mild buzz off it. Another server brought us an order of fried calamari. Thanks, we said, but we didn't order that. She was completely stumped but a nearby table finally waved her over. The bread basket with the puddle of cheesy oil was the highlight of the evening. For an appetizer, we ordered the same Thai chicken lettuce wraps we had enjoyed on our first visit. This time they were swimming in a watery sauce that made it impossible to pick up without the sauce running down your arm. Not easy to eat with a fork either, since it's all shredded and just falls apart. Basically it tasted like something I could pull together on my own at home, iceberg lettuce and all. For my entree, I ordered the angus meatloaf (which I'd seen at a neighboring table at our first visit and it looked good then). Well, when it finally came out it looked very different. I can't remember when I was last served actually burned food at a restaurant. The meatloaf triangles were shrunken, charred, dried, and quite burned on one side. My friend tasted it, and his comment was "are you sure that's meat?" The gravy was good but there was way too little of it. The green beans were delicious. As for the rest, I couldn't eat it and didn't want to bring it home. My friend ordered cranberry teriyaki chicken served on sweet potato canoli, with sauteed spinach. The chicken was over-cooked and very dry and shrunken. The sauce did not taste remotely "teriyaki." Then I heard a loud cracking/crunching/grinding sound and saw him wince and grab his mouth. I was really horrified and expected him to spit out a whole tooth. Instead he spit out a fairly large piece of ... something. Sand? Glass? Rock? Right then, the waitress appeared and asked "how is everything." We replied, "well, funny you should ask, he just bit down on a piece of something hard in his food," and we showed it to her. She said it must have been some dirt on the spinach leaves. Hmm. Ok. At this point I was wondering if it might have been a piece of his tooth that just fractured and broke off, not anything in the food at all. She did ask if he would like it re-made, but we were now running late for our movie, so we declined. At that point my friend had lost his appetite, and I wasn't enjoying my "are you sure that's meat?" meatloaf, so I took his plate to finish his sweet potato canoli. Next thing you know, I am biting down on a hard piece of sand/rock/glass myself. The waitress came back. I told her it just happened to me also, it was not dirt on the spinach, it was definitely in the sweet potato canoli. She said she would tell the manager, and she returned and said "he says they must not have washed the sweet potato enough. Sorry." At that point we just asked for the check, which the waitress brought over fairly promptly... except it was not our check. Finding and returning with our check took much longer. So after this 2 hour fiasco, I asked my friend, "could that have been any worse?" His reply was "No, that was really bad. I would have enjoyed McDonalds more." Luckily there was a second screening of our movie at 10 PM since we missed the 9:30 showing. Not once did the manager come over to talk to us, check in with us, or even make eye contact...much less welcome us back. I'm pretty sure he recognized us from our last visit and was staying away. And no apology, no sympathy, no taking the entree with the rock in it off the bill, and definitely no more gift certificates to come give them another chance. Sooo.. one star. we'll spend our money elsewhere and encourage you to do the same!

So my little guy becomes a teenager and Dad offers dinner anywhere on the Cape. First choice to try Gerardis in Yarmouth - closed :-( How about Iahno? Embargo? Let's try Fin? No, after reviewing Yelp on my iPhone we get the let's hit the chain at the mall (play groaning dad sound here) So, I've been here before and for a chain, they do take pride in there stuff. But folks, isn't life about experiencing new things, finding those amazing places and not running with the crowd? Oh well, screw all that for tonight. Thankfully my kids love raw tuna and immediately jumped on the Ahi Wonton appetizer. Great job NYAJ's on this one. Ahi is high quality (tender and no connective bits) and nicely seared. The crispy wonton ads a nice texture. As for the sauces - great combination of bite of wasabi and sweet teriaki style. This dish is a solid hit and comes in a reasonable portion for 3 people. My kids scarfed down the bread and dipping sauce. Apparently it was yummy. I opted for the veggie burger. I love a good house made alternative to ground beef and one more chicken sandwich will make me cluck. Unfortunately, this was not a good one. They use a lot of rice as filler, which is something that I have never seen. The patty fell apart and also wasn't extremely tasty. Slaw was good and not overly mayo laden. Service was solid and the waitress was well versed in the menu (except for the veggie burger). I'm guessing it doesn't get much mileage.

Not great and not horrible. While the menu offers an array of choices, we just thought the food was okay, but not over the top. It's convenient for the infrequent trips that we make to the Mall, but this certainly wouldn't be a dining destination for us on a regular basis. Server was nice and the establishment was clean.

Definitely my favorite place to eat out!! Always my first choice restaurant. Atmosphere is great and the servers are always very friendly and timely. The bread and dipping oil you get before ordering is absolutely delicious. My favorite item on the menu is their steak tips, they are to die for! Also the grilled salmon they have is wonderful.

Second time here. Really like their menu. They have a lot of selections, something for everyone. I ordered the Ahi Tuna with jicama salad. I am a fan of Ahi Tuna, especially when the chef does it justice and just sears it for 2 seconds. It was perfectly done, sliced and plated. Served with crispy greens and jicama, it was very refreshing. My expectations of this place was not immediately high, just do to the nature of the restaurant style and sports bar kind of theme, but I must say both times I was here, I was quite pleased with the meal. They have a full bar and the prices for food and drink are quite reasonable. Oh and today (not on my last visit) they started me out with some real toasty warm chunks of bread and a spicy Parmesan dipping olive oil. Super nice touch, hope they keep that up.

Great food. Not your average boring stuff. New ideas and great specials daily. Located right in the mall. You can enter without going through the mall. We love the specials on the drinks also.

I liked this place before. The table wasn't 100% clean, the "home-made" bread was cold didn't taste fresh, too chewy, and kind of reminded me pillow stuffing. The "yellow oil" served looked like antifreeze. The service was good so was the Cobb Salad and cold beer.

This was my first time here and I was really impressed with the wait staff. I had a Southwest burger and it was perfectly cooked. The staff was patient and accommodating while not pestering. Will definitely return!

been there done that...ok place if your idea of a good meal is generic chain food...but.you're at the cape for crisps sake..100's of family owned real sea food places to choose from...most have been there for years so you know they're doing something right...why settle for another tgif or ruby tuesday look-alike?

This was my daughter's pick for lunch on her birthday, and we were not disappointed! We were a bit early, and the famous bread wasn't quite ready, but it was without a doubt the freshest bread I've ever had, and so delicious with the special dip. My daughter needs the gluten-free menu and was immediately served her gluten-free bread. Her pasta was done perfectly, better than most places with gluten-free options. This is one of the better gluten-free menus in the area. The new almond crusted chicken was delightful, though I found the sweet potato wedges too pasty. Sweet potato fries really need to be cut thinner to retain that unique taste and texture. Service was excellent, as our bottomless drinks were refilled quickly without needing to hunt for our waiter who kept tabs on our dining progress. The offer of oyster crackers for the toddler was appreciated, but the milk needed to be in a sturdier cup instead of a flimsy plastic one -- one squeeze and it would have been all over the place. I want to come back and try the meat loaf!

Went here on friday for drinks with my friend. We ordered a pitcher of the sangria and enjoyed it very much. The bread with dipping sauce was delicious as well. Our waitresses name was Rachael and she was very attentive and checked on us several times.

I came here while on vacation on the Cape. Actually, we drove 40 minutes from Orleans to get here. I'm not sure why, but whatever. There were 10 of us and we made a reservation for 8:00pm. When we got there, the table they had reserved for us was still being used, so they ended up splitting us up 6 and 4. We had to wait a little bit and the waiting area is very small and you feel like you are constantly in the way. Luckily, the tables were not too far from each other and we could still talk a bit between them. The bread and sauce they serve at the beginning is absolutely delicious. I almost filled up on that alone. I ordered the Mediterranean turkey kabobs and watermelon sangria. The sangria was DELICIOUS. The watermelon flavor really shined through. I could have one everyday. The turkey kabobs were fine too, except one of turkey pieces was still pink. I was a bit hesitant to order it at first because I thought it sounded kind of weird, but I ended up liking it. It came with orzo with artichokes and feta, pesto and a yogurt sauce. I wish the artichokes were cut up a little more as I thought they were too big to just pick up and eat and I didn't really like cutting into orzo with a knife. I also wish it had a little more feta. Overall, though, the dish was quite tasty. Our server was very nice and attentive. She never seemed to mind going back and forth to get our large group condiments, etc. and was able to handle both tables really well. The manager also came around to ask how everything was and how everyone was doing. The restaurant was very clean and well decorated, but I really wish it didn't have carpet. I just think carpet where people are eating is never a good idea. I know there are some of these restaurants closer to my neck of the woods, and I have no problem checking them out as well. Also, if I am ever in Hyannis again, I would not hesitate to go back.

This place had amazing food and I really thought it was worth every minute of the wait for the check. The staff was super polite and accommodating and started the night off with a quick and snappy bustle. Our order and drinks were taken and delivered quickly. Toward the end of the meal our waiter was a tad bit slower in getting us what we asked for and took a while to bring the check, but it was also prime dining time at that point. If you aren't feeling very patient or have a time sensitive date afterward I'd suggest keeping this in mind! The food here was fantastic, everything on the menu looked great while maintaining a good spread of flavor diversity. There is everything from delicious crab filled apps and entrees to good old fashioned burgers. We can't forget the name though! Many of their dishes have a little twist to them. I personally had the not your average meatloaf, which at first look was beautiful but also looked a little skimpy. Half a plate later I realized how incredibly filling and delicious the meal was though! My girlfriend had the blue cheese burger with caramelized onions, the name of which currently escapes me, but she thought it was really good. Being a mooch, I can testify to how delicious the french fries were! From what I've seen of this place it gives a grade A presentation of its food and follows through with a powerfully delicious punch of flavor. As far as atmosphere and cleanliness I found Not Your Average Joe's ideal. The bathrooms are spic and span and the dining room decoration is lively and modern. I especially enjoyed the used of large angled mirrors as wall decor and the large windows which let in ample sunshine. Not Your Average Joe's is located right in the Cape Cod Mall and is a great place to stop for food between browsing or shopping and is honestly worth a drive from pretty much anywhere in the vicinity. The only tiny downside is that the window's provide a stunning view of *drum roll please* a parking lot. Overall I would suggest Not Your Average Joe's for anyone looking for casual dining with amazing food. It's great for family's, friend's going out for drinks or even just a good reunion with someone you haven't seen in a while. I would not suggest this restaurant if you are looking for something significantly extravagant or posh in nature, though it is not lacking in performance it is definitely not a suit and tie establishment. Going on a date? Despite what I said above I did find this place great for our 1 year anniversary.. Like I said above, if you are looking for a really upscale restaurant I'd stay away, but it's great if you just want something fun relaxing and tasty.

The food is consistently good here and of very high quality. NYAJ's isn't your typical mall restaurant...everything is made fresh and the food is of exceptionally high quality. The bread is particularly good and I've never ordered something off the menu that I didn't like. The service is great and the management seems to really care about customer service. It used to be an Italian restaurant, so they have a very nice pizza oven which explains why the pizza and flatbread is so good. I recommend the BBQ chicken pizza or any of the specials. This is my favorite restaurant on Cape Cod and I always have a great time here!

I travel all over the US We had an OK dinner. After dinner myself and a business associate stop at the bar. No one would wait on us. 2 bar tenders waiting on one person for 10 minutes I left and walk down to Murphy's Excellent service and a great memo. Next time I'm in Cape Cod on business we will go there and recommend to all our business associates. Also visit Captain Parkers for the best Clam Chowder in the country..

Two words.. Yee Uck.. that's how I felt when I ordered the stuffed quahog here... it came with corn and a bunch of other nasty stuff that just didn't work well.. it was down right disgusting... I would not even feed it to my dog... that being said.. maybe there are a few things on their menu that are good... however I'll stick to my average Joe's from now on and stay far away from this one...

Service was fine but rather slow. Took a long time for anything we asked for, but they were polite and accommodating. Food about what you would expect from a chain in a mall. But it was large enough to seat us quickly on a busy night.

We have a house in Hyannis and over the years have pretty much eaten everywhere and have tried all the yummy local food eateries and LOVE Hyannis. This passed week my son and I were in the mall and very hungry and didn't really want to eat in a Mall!!?? However we strolled into Joe's and it was very crowded so we sat at the bar. Wow, we got the Sangria and it was so yummy! We then got lettuce roll ups for an appetizer and they were delicious. My son got a yummy burger and I had the salmon and tomato tart. Very impressive, fun atmosphere and perfect service. We will go back even if its just for the bread and oil they give you right away...it is delicious!

I have eaten here a couple times. The food consistent and good. Most recently, they didnt have what I ordered, the manager came to me to tell me that they had tried out a new wrap for the enchilada's and they were not working out, and asked if there was another item I would like to try. I appreciate them wanting to serve quality food instead of serving sub par food just because its what I ordered. The food I ordered instead arrived quickly and was very delicious. The portions are large and food the flavorful. The environment is fun and lively, its a great place for locals and visitors alike. You can also catch the local games there and enjoy a well poured drink.

Great happy hour appetizer specials! half price in the bar/lounge area from 3-5pm. the tuna wantons are TO DIE FOR. great portion and at half price if you make it in time, cannot be beat! had a very festive seasonal apple cider type sangria which was yummy also!

The face of the restaurant is the server and mine was terrible. I got an email about the April Wine Month and the complimentary wine tastings Monday thru Wednesday. She was not familiar with the promotion and she insisted that I could taste any wine on any day. I guess I expected complimentary wine tasting to be more than the sip they give you when you want to check out a new wine. Anyway, each sip took about 10 minutes from delivery to when she checked to see if I liked the wine. So after I finished the glass I ordered after I gave up on wine tasting, I paid and left.

We so wanted this to be good because we were really hungry and there were some great Yelp reviews. Not so. The bread is very good with the olive oil dip, but don't eat it all because no seconds for you! The beverages taste generic. The lemonade is not fresh and the ginger ale must be store brand. Terrible. My son and wife ordered the mustard crusted chicken. The chicken was good but the side of green beans was undercooked and the mashed potatoes were definitely not real. Powered mashed potatoes. I couldn't believe what I was tasting for the expense! The sides were cold as well. My younger son got the kid's meal burger and it was completely burnt. The 12 fries on the side were okay. My meal was the Great Hill Sirloin Wedge. I asked for medium, not medium well, and I got shoe leather sirloin. The wedge definitely spent a lot of time in the the fridge-maybe a few days. No blue cheese dressing, but just some crumbled dry blue cheese at the very top. What happened to the dressing? Dry city!! The food was really, really expensive. This is yet another example of expensive food not necessarily being good quality food.

I love this place! There are so many reason why but I guess I'll start with the fact they are so very accommodating! Yes there have been times when my food hasn't been the greatest but they are always so quick to fix any issues and customize everything to suit your tastes. I really love that they have a stunning gluten-free menu. It makes my visits with a friend so much easier! The food is almost always fantastic too. The pizza is amazing, the drinks delicious, the entrees mouth watering and the apps so tasty they could be a meal in their own! Yes, sometimes it gets very busy and that results in slow service but that is to be expected at dine-in restaurants on Cape Cod. If you are in a hurry try the take-out! I will often get a salad and pizza to go int the winter months and they even include some of that amazing homemade foccacia!

First, let me say that i am a 55 year old female professional who works in the area. This restaurant is a big step up from fast food chains, and is somewhere you can take a breather for an hour or so. Menu is decent, atmosphere fine, no scruffy diners, but no one trying to be high end either. It is just a happy medium, and some of the menu items are very good! Not to mention the bread!! I go there once a week or so. It is just a very pleasant place to be. Not spectacular, but above average for sure, and worth returning to. No, i would not drive 50 miles for it, but i still choose it over the more expensive places downtown.

Food is 5 Star (really excellent!) but 4 given for the women behind the bar; EVERYTIME I come it's always same ragged-out, bad attitude at the bar. Serve it at club not while eating! To reiterate, food is excellent but bartendars consistently mentally preoccupied ...

I had a craving for fries, so my boyfriend and I grabbed dinner at Joes. Our waitress was great and even had a tide stain pen in her pocket for when my bf had a little spill. We ordered their holiday sangria- it was delicious, but weak. The bread was so soft and the dipping oil was perfect. My veggie burger was made with too much rice, but it had a good flavor and the fries were thin and hot, just how I like them. My bf had the crab cake blt and loved it. This is the type of place I would return to with my picky family since they had a big menu. I also saw that they have a gluten free menu.

I am a joes veteran. Have noticed this joes is not up to par.. Last two visits i have gotten cold thrown together food. One for take out the other sit down. And the portions are shrinking too.. While they offer to make good, I wont be running back soon..

My husband and I dine here frequently due to the great service and great food!! As others have mentioned they always aim to please by doing substitutions if need be and have always had friendly, knowledgable staff. They have half price appetizers during the week in the bar area between 3-6 so my co-workers and I also frequent here often! The buffalo caribbean chicken tenders and the ahi tuna wontons are my favorites! Like someone else had mentioned the raspberry lime rickeys with free refills are amazing. The entree salads are huge and always satisfying, I personally love the mona lisa chicken salad or the waldorf salad. For entrees I love the cod, salmon, vegetarian version of the squash cannelonis, harvest mac and cheese and burgers. For some of the comments about how the prices were a little high, I do have to say I've never left feeling hungry where the portion sizes are always more than enough! I also feel they have a great management team because where I frequent often I have gotten to know both Bruce and Aiden who are always eager to please and super friendly! One of my favorite things is years ago when I did the survey on the ipod at the end of my meal and gave my email and birthday, they now every year send me an email with a coupon for a free meal to come and celebrate my birthday with them, which we always do in which I get the pan seared scallops (which are absolutely amazing!!!!) Another thing I like that most people don't know they do is they are involved in helping the community as well. I am a volunteer for a local charity and NYAJ has a program that they do called Not your average cause. They had a month where one day of the week for the month if someone dined there and mentioned the charity they gave a portion of the proceeds to that charity! I feel because they have great service, great food and care about their community that why wouldn't you dine there?!

First off, the bread and dip is amazing. I cant speak for the people who dont get more bread, but I never have that problem. Maybe the staff is instructed to not replace it on their own, but all the times I visit and ask for more they always get more. Staff is friendly and the atmosphere is pretty good. I also enjoy the chicken dishes here and there are some good deals during happy hour too. I wish there were more dishes for the picky eater but l'm fine with it being a good happy hour destination for myself

My partner and I dined here on June 25, 2010 and found this to be one of the best dining experiences we've had in a long time. This is a chain restaurant, but you would never know it, since they do it right. They are located at the Cape Cod Mall, so you are not going to get a scenic view but that doesn't matter because the service and food is simply outstanding. Our server Anika was so sweet and attentive, I couldn't ask for anyone better. She did everything right and was doing a great job considering how busy she was. The food is very creative and delicious and I considered ordering a second round, that's how good it was. The manager was also very nice greeting the guests and thanking us for stopping by. When you sit down the bring out an awesome bread basket with dipping oil which we couldn't get enough of. I had the cranberry chicken teriyaki with sweet potato cannellonis with sauteed spinach and my partner ordered the waldorf salad. I would return right now if that restaurant was still nearby! You simply must try this place when visiting Hyannis, MA.

I enjoyed my experience at joes. The food was good and they had good drinks. The bread that they gave us was yummy with the sauce but when we got our menus they were covered in food or something other than that it was good.

I absolutely enjoyed this place. To start off your dining they give great bread with an olive oil dip. It was simply great and I almost filled up on that. I ordered a sandwich with salad and split a pizza. Great flavor with everything, and enjoyed their unique dressings for my salad. Their pizza was also good and I would not hesitate to order the same combination again. I only wish they had some locations in NY.

I love their chowder although there's probably better places. Also their bread dipping sauce is excellent, love the parmesan cheese and red pepper mixed with olive oil, something i'm gonna have to try at home. Now, i've had their chicken strips and a burger. They're not the best, the strips are kinda bland and the burger was decent although the bun wasn't that great. Now, I love their atmosphere there, really upbeat and feel good hey lets have a jolly good time air to it. Not a bad place if you're close and need something to eat on the spot.

Food was OK but lacked decent flavor. It was all too heavy without much taste. Bread was good for us, and the dipping oil was a nice touch. I might eat there again but would consider my other options first.
