Delicious seafood on a Thursday night. Had the special which was fried clams and haddock. Generous, tender and yummy! The coleslaw was fresh and crispy and they happily substituted a baked potato for french fries, all for $15. There was enough to bring home, but I ate it! Highly recommend.

Instand Mashed Potato's! I don't understand it. Why does a restaurant go through the trouble of attempting to serve decent food and then use instant mashed . I got the prime rib and it came with instant mashed. Waitress was NOT friendly at all and seemed to be bothered at the onset when she had to read us the specials. She told us they are on the board but I'll read them to you anyway. Gee thanks! Mussels were very good. Could not not taste any crab in the crab cakes. The prime rib was mediocre at best and would not get it again. I heard the prime rib runs out early. I don't understand why. I ordered a beer and the waitress brought me a bottle and no glass. Kind of strange to be served beer that way in a nice restaurant I thought. The brownie dessert was hard as a rock and we needed to ask the waitress for steak knives to cut through it. Overall, not a very pleasant experience and we will not be going back.

Stopped into Butch's on a recomendation by a friend. Sat at the bar with my wife and had a few drinks. Good bartenders who will take good care of you. We decided on a simple dinner and ordered wings as an app and split a french dip for dinner. The wings left a little to be desired as they came out unsauced (not a big deal, they put sauces on the side but it would have been nice). The french dip on the other hand was absolutely huge and a great choice. There are not alot of choices for upscale pub food in the area, so this definitely fit the bill. Im sure that they will get better with time, but for a good pub style meal, a good bar and a reasonable price, Butch's is worth a try.

I work in Haverhill and I'm always interested in new additions to the restaurant scene. Last night I dined at Butch's for the first time and was very impressed with the cozy atmosphere, friendly service and great food. My friend and I had the mussels and shared their beautiful gorgonzola and greens salad. The mussels were perfectly prepared and the salad was freshly made and dressed. It was delightful! The menu offers many options so I look forward to many more meals. We will be returning and letting our friends know about this new gem.

My boyfriend and I came here on a Friday night around 6PM. We only had to wait a few minutes for a table but shortly after mulitple people were coming in and it was getting busy, glad we came in when we did. The bar and restaurant is very inviting, decor is nice and all staff was friendly. We were seated, and immediately brought some delicious bread and butter. I ordered a martini, strong, but very delicious. I ordered chicken parm with pasta, and had a house salad to start with bleu cheese dressing. Both my meal and salad was absolutely delicious! They give you a very generous amount of food. My boyfriend had some type of a baked seafood dish with ritz crackers, he loved it, along with his salad. Our waitress was excellent and checked back multiple times to make sure every one of our dishes came out perfect. We will def be back to this restaurant and had already become a new favorite after only 1 visit. I suggest you go, you won't be disappointed!

We at at Butch's Uptown for the first time last night and we were very impressed. The restaurant is decorated beautifully. The drink menu is outstanding with many unique options. I had the cheeseburger and fries and was impressed. My husband had a special, stuffed haddock. The haddock was stuffed with calamari, clams and shrimp. It had a delicious sauce. It was out of this world. You could tell the fish was fresh. The portions were great and the prices are fair. We will be back!

I don't know how many times I have been here and never had a bad meal. The food here is amazing and the portions are quite large. Last night I had the fried oysters, they were sooo tasty. My husband got Chicken Marsala and it was tender and tasty as well. Each meal was under $15.. French fries were tasty as well.

Great burgers, delicious salmon. Spaghetti was good but not a fan of the meatballs. Burgers are fresh and seasoned just right, they use quality meat and they are not greasy like other burgers but still have a great flavor. Bun was delicious and held the burger well and the fries were delicious. I love the salmon, it has such flavor to it and they cook it perfectly, you'll love this fish. I had spaghetti one night, it was cooked properly and the sauce was good, not too sweet but sweet (almost similar to bertucci's but less garlic). I didn't like the meatballs because they seemed to have too much oregano, parsley and bread crumb. I like my meatballs with salt/galic and onion flavor, and juicy. These meatballs didn't have a lot of flavor. Great environment, clean, very friendly staff. Really great bar area (not upscale but it's no where near being a dive.). TV's in the bar area only then there's a dining area that is comfy.

Butch's is a great addition to the downtown Haverhill restaurant scene. The bar is really cool, with beautiful high tin ceilings, lots of seats, and a few high top tables. The atmosphere in the dining room has a little left to be desired though. There are no booths, which is always a disappointment. However, the food was spectactular both times. The menu has a good range of options and is definitely reasonably priced, with large portions. I'd recommend any of the baked stuff shrimp dishes or the cutlets. A friend tried the macaroni and cheese and was not impressed. It's not the type backed in a casserole dish, but pretty much just looked like a bowl of Velveeta. Overall, I'll definitely be heading to Butch's again!

After anxiously awaiting Butch's Uptown my husband and I were pretty excited to give it a try. The atmosphere is very nice and inviting. I had to give them a 5 star rating because the food was outstanding. My husband got the prime rib which he likes medium rare and it was cooked to perfection with delicious Au jus not to mention the cut of meat was huge! Biggest piece I have ever see . His mashed potatoes we're so good. I got the Spinach salad with their home made agave mustard dressing and it was one of the best salads I've ever had. It had all my favorite components (egg, avocado, sharp cheese chunks, strawberries, cucumbers, yellow pepper, purple onions and I added grilled chicken- think that's all) it was delicious!!! We are thrilled to find a new place in Haverhill with good food and will most definitely be back! :)

The hubs got the Broiler Plate (grilled chicken, steak tips, sausage and lamb plus a starch and a vegetable), and I got chicken parm. We also had a side salad, a bottle of wine and a beer, an the bill was just over $60. The food was good and so was the service. We'll be back again.

Back to Butch's last night. I find I go there every couple of weeks now. By far my favorite restaurant. Service is always fabulous. Food is beyond delicious. Prices are reasonable. Atmosphere is lively and upbeat. And the thing that make's this place my all time favorite ... they have been more than willing to accommodate my unusual post-meal requests ... a doggie bag of prime rib bones for my English Bulldogs. Da Gurls (my bulldogs) are in heaven for a couple of days after each time I go there. If they could, I'm sure they would give Butch's two paws up as well.

Had dinner here tonight, heard from friends that it was good and we have to agree. The owner, Beth, came by our table to make sure things were good -we sat at a high top in the bar area and she seems to be anchored in that area. Angela was our waitress, very helpful with suggestions and works hard to make your experience a good one. I had the pan seared chicken with artichokes, olives, capers and a lemon cream sauce........seriously I would eat this every night. I think it was about $14 and I have lunch tomorrow. I told Beth she needs to evaluate her prices because the place will gain in popularity but her prices are too low. Good for us for the short term, but we'd actually like to see her succeed and that requires making a profit. Husband had the grilled chicken sandwich, Angela came out with a fish sandwich in error and they would not allow him to accept the incorrect dish.......my husband hates to waste food and would have been happy trying that dish, but it was obvious they had an element of pride in their service and wouldn't let their error dictate my husband's dinner. That's why they'll be successful. On a weird note, what appears to be the hostess station is at the far end from the entrance, so you have to walk the length of the bar to find the hostess to seat you in the dining area.....weird. Plus they have a bench away from the door for people who just want to wait for a table, again, just an awkward, illogical setup.

Finally tried Butch's on the night of the blizzard and I am so glad we did. They have a lovely tin-ceiling-ed bar and a substantial dining room. The menu has a nice selection of upgraded bar apps, entrees with interest, sandwiches, and cozy deserts. The wine list is not lengthy, but matches the overall price point and variety of the entrees. We tried the baked stuffed shrimp which were served with drawn butter, but my companion found them plenty moist and flavorful without it. We also tried the chicken breast with artichokes, capers, and olives in a lemon cream sauce. It had a nice balance of richness and brine, and the chicken was tender. I also loved the creamed spinach side dish. We were happy to have saved room for the brownie a la mode, which is a very worthwhile splurge for anyone who values a dense, fudgey meal. We will be back to try the other items on the menu that piqued our interest like the salmon, the cutlet, and the pecan pie.

After reading many of the reviews here on yelp for Butch's Uptown the family decided to venture out and give it a try. Our first impression of the restaurant was provided by Butch's daughter Sam who walked us outside to a table in their new outdoor dining area. The city of Haverhill made a big bump out to the curb allowing them to put 5 or 6 tables outside and the weather was great! Sam gave us some menu tips, said the waiter would be over to tell us about the specials and that if we liked bread pudding we really need to save some room for dessert. We all thought the food was very good, and the portions are very generous. I had one of the specials which was spaghetti with chicken cutlet, meatball and sausages which was very good and the meatballs besides being the size of baseballs (close to it) were very tender and very flavorful. My wife ordered the crab cakes served on top of lobster bisque with a salad and said the crab cakes we delicious. My son had an enormous plate of fettuccine alfredo with shrimp and had to take most of it home, and my daughter ordered the baked haddock which came highly recommended and it didn't disappoint. The fish was fresh, the crumb and butter topping was very savory and she too would recommend it to anyone. All in all a great find for us, and we will certainly be coming back with our other two kids who who couldn't be with us tonight. BTW...I took my son to the bathroom and the facilities were very clean. Something you don't always see in even the nicest of restaurants when there is a heavy volume of traffic. Great job!

So I came in here to check out the new place in Haverhill. Took a seat at the bar with one bartender scowling and not making eye contact. The other bartender, thankfully, came over a few minutes later to greet me and take my drink order. Very limited beers on tap (5). Ordered the baked stuff [sic] shrimp w fries and veg of the day. Not sure how much fresh crab was in their baked stuffed shrimp, because all I seemingly got was bread crumbs. Seriously, I could taste no crab in that stuffing. Ate around the stuffing; shrimp were okay but a little overcooked. The fries were limp and greasy. Maybe I shouldn't have come here when they were a little slow. Service was okay, food was okay. I'd give them 2 1/2 stars if I could. But erred on the side of niceness for the one bartender who was nice and attentive and the ambience of the place (although umm, you should probably not have the Home Shopping Network on your bar TV?!).

This place is definitely high on the list of affordable upscale food in Haverhill. We've been there times now and each time the food has been excellent and the portions commendable. I would definitely recommend this place for a night out. It does get a little noisy, but the food and economy overrule that issue.

Holy mother of grilled cheese! It's so good. All portions are gluttonous. The hand cut fries are savory. My son has food allergies and staff was very accommodating but offered him candy that we weren't sure of processing safety. He obviously wanted it but instead opted for cherries which were safe. Super nice people

Absolutely wonderful!!! So popular that we had to wait over 30 min. But well worth the wait! Our party of four went with the seafood selection of the menu, and it was not to be disappointed. Absolutely wonderful, fresh and baked to perfection!!!!

  • Lenore F.

Mediocre at best. The service was good but we were surprised to have our entrees delivered within five minutes after ordering. I had ordered spaghetti with sauce and my husband ordered the Butch's Special. There was no way the kitchen could have sent out our food this quickly without it being pre made. I would have gladly waited the extra ten minutes to get a freshly made dish instead of a mushy plate of pasta. The sauce had the taste and texture of one out of a can. The pork cutlets were the only redeeming feature of the meal. To add to our displeasure we were bombarded by a fly the entire meal. A restaurant such as this should not have flies in the dining room or anywhere actually. We were disappointed and won't be going back.

Excellent baked haddock, great chicken parm, prices reasonable, owned by a local family from what waitstaff told me. Good service and restaurant was very clean (bathrooms too). Would definitely recommend and come again

Was looking for a place to meet my sister that was about half-way and open for lunch on a Sunday. This place hit it. It's a bar more than a restaurant, and everything was adequate, but it's bar food, and not the menu I was hoping for. Really 3.5 stars.

  • Tony U.

Very loud inside but the service is excellent and the quality of the food is top notch and very hot the way I like it. I recommend the specials they offer here. I had the stuffed haddock which was excellent. For dessert, I tried the bread pudding which is delicious but GIGANTIC.

  • Erin B.

I really liked it here, despite the hour-long wait for a table on a Saturday night. Still, it was fairly easy to get a drink at the bar while we waited, even though it was packed wall-to-wall. I mean you had to shimmy between people and groups to get anywhere. I guess that's a good sign? The staff were friendly and well-aware that people were waiting a long time. They offered us a free dessert due to the extra-long wait, which was a nice touch. Even though it was crazy busy, it didn't seem frenzied, which was nice. The entree portions are HUGE. I had enough for dinner that night, and two lunches the next day! Part of this may have been because we shared an appetizer (the calamari) and we knew dessert was coming. I got the special, which was a chicken florentine dish with pasta, spinach, tomatoes and an olive oil and white wine-based sauce. It was delicious and only $18, which was a steal for the amount of food and how good it was. The dessert they offered us was a bread pudding (not my favorite). It was tasty, but we were all so full! I would definitely return, but potentially a litter earlier or with a reservation!

I've waited a while to write a review because I don't want others to learn about this little gem!! We've been four weekends in a row. Every visit, we've both ordered different things so here's the rundown: Fettuccine Alfredo - well you'd think it were a portion for three because it's huge!!! It was delicious and the chicken was moist. Solid B+ Steak quesadilla (a special): also huge and awesome NY sirloin with cheese, etc. That was a winner. A! Wings: outstanding and there were a lot of them. B+! Spaghetti with marinara: Simple and damn tasty. Sauce was fresh and light while the pasta was cooked perfectly. Grilled cheese with onions, tomato and avocado: A man's sandwich. This thing was a monster and very, very good. Solid A. Baked haddock: now this was a solid A, as well. Perhaps a wee bit under-seasoned but it was a beautiful piece of fish, cooked perfectly. Oh and those mashed potatoes??!! Mother of God. Steak tips: very, very decent. Not marinated but nicely seasoned. Their home cut fires were awesome. I'll give that a B+. Rib-eye steak with Gorganzola Butter (special): very good but a tiny bit on the 'too fatty' side. The Cole slaw was great and the house salad was excellent!! Solid B. Now the king is the homemade bread pudding. Wow, wow, wow. Perfect texture....Perfect! A+. An awesome establishment with delicious food, excellent service and a great environment.

We had the most interesting experience. Waited at least an hour to be seated. They lost our name on the wait list. Then we were seated and our waiter never came to greet us. Another waitress asked if we had been helped and took our drink order. This also took FOREVER. Our waiter finally appeared, spilled some drinks and then disappeared again before we even had a chance to order our food. Overall the hostess was the most accommodating to us and thank goodness the food was good. Overall I like this place, but they need to get more organized for a busy Sat night. Service "eh". Food "yum-o". All we could do was drink and laugh out loud at what bad luck we had.

EXCELLENT dining experience. Until recently, I had no idea that this place existed- except that I kept seeing in on my yelp homepage as a "near perfect rating". It is hidden off of the main strip of Haverhill restaurants. Thank you Yelp for point me in the location of my new favorite place. The food was wonderful. Mussels with white wine- oh so tasty! blackened salmon was the most amazing moist fish I have had in a while. My guy said the the prime rib (which was Fred Flintstone sized) he had was the best he's ever had. Really? yes, really! Atmosphere- 5 stars, waitstaff- 5 stars food- 6 stars. Price- 5 stars! The drink menu looks fun with lots of martini and other drink combinations. Dessert menu sounds great too. I cannot wait to go back.

All I can say is fettuccine alfredo. Go get yourself some real ricky-tick! Amazing for lunch or dinner (or both as the serving size was quite generous). We work across the street and Butch's is easily our most frequent recommendation for people new to town or looking for something great!

So glad I finally tried this place. Came at 6 pm on a wednesday. It was busy but we were seated right away. The waitress was very patient and helped with menu choices. I ended up trying the prime rib (queen cut) ordered medium rare, and would you believe it, it came out medium rare! Finally a place that understands the words: warm, red center. Im glad I didnt get the butch cut, I have a huge appetite and barely managed to finish it. Fatty and juicy which paired well soaked into my mashed potatoes. The cole slaw was decent too. Waitress tried her best to make sure our drinks were filled. Will definitely be trying this place again. The prices were modest... not a steal but you get what you pay for. Thats saying a lot compared to other places.

This is my first visit to BU and I give them 4 stars for the benefit of the doubt. I think they have potential. But my first meal was not great. I found the prime rib to be hit-r-miss, mine was a miss, but grandma said hers was very good. Mine was thin, tough and tasteless. We were a party of six. The others thought the food was great. They had chicken, pasta and shrimp dishes and they thought fodd was delicious. So for my bad experience I am willing to try again. But, not until later in the year. The room is painfully noisy. Owner knows this to a problem and will be adding accoustic material in the fall. So I will wait for that change, OR eat outside in the patio and order something other than prime rib.

I don't want to write a bad review because we like coming here and have had good meals. But attention to detail is key. We were in a couple of nights ago (and tend to go weekly/every other week). The amount of fruit flies over the liquor bottles was stunning. I understand fruit flies occur in establishments, and even at home when food/drink is around, but there were so many buzzing around the necks of the bottles. Not something you want to see anywhere, but not when paying $8+ for drinks. On this trip our meals were ok. Garlic Shrimp appetizer was excellent. A bunch of shrimp, cooked perfectly and tasty sauce. However the shrimp I ordered with my salad were over cooked, rubber bullets. Not sure if they were already cooked cocktail shrimp thrown on the grill or just over done, but I wish I hadn't ordered them, the salad was great without them. If you go when Luisa is bartending, she's top notch. I see people complaining about noise in some posts, I have never thought it was too noisy.

  • Karyn W.

All three of the stars are for the food. The bartender was sweet but could have made 4 times the money for herself and the restaurant if she had noticed the empty glasses around her while chatting. I sat for 5 minutes without a drink or a menu ... On a Monday!!' The greens and Gorgonzola with sirloin tips is a full meal and delicious.

Just thought I'd mention we went here on New Years Eve and we all had meals to die for. Yeah, sure the sound level can be loud but it's a happy loud. We find the atmosphere to be festive and happy. I tend to be most happy when they put a fresh plate of goodness in front of me and least happy when they are clearing the plates. Seriously we are very very very fond of this place, the staff is awesome no matter who is waiting on you. If your looking for a great meal at a reasonable price Butch's is the place to go.

We are regulars at Butch's ( we live across the street) and are always pleased with our experience. We ate dinner there last night, the baked haddock was as good as you'll ever get, and the Uncle Guidos Pork was as advertised - huge and delicious.

This was a really disappointing experience. This was our first night out with our newborn. I recognize that going out with a baby is a crapshoot, but he was really good. At any other restaurant, we would have had a really nice meal while he slept, but after we had been there for an hour and a half our meal had still not arrived. It only arrived after we asked why it was taking so long. We took our food to-go and had a mediocre lukewarm dinner at home. They were apologetic and gave us a free dessert, which was really just more food to take home and they tried to charge us for it too. They did not offer to take anything off the bill. They did not give us a gift card to try to get us to come back, so we won't be going back. I don't suggest that you do either.

I recently moved to Haverhill and Butch's is the closest restaurant to where I live. Right after finishing the move I really didn't feel like cooking, so I thought I'd give Butch's a go. I thought I'd get your standard pub fare, but boy was I pleasantly surprised. I had the wings appetizer, which is about a dozen wings in a nice tangy BBQ sauce. Other sauces are available. They were nicely done, big wings and cooked perfectly. Definitely large enough to share with a table. Then I moved on the Broiler Plate, which is outrageous! Grilled chicken, steak tips, sausage and lamb chop served with your choice of side. This plate is HUGE! Three people could eat off of this one plate and everyone would be full. The meats were grilled perfectly and the chicken was not dried out, which is hard for some places to get right. Butch's is definitely on my Best of Haverhill list.

An amazing resturants, this place combines the cozy atmosphere that you find in haverhill resturants with an amazing selection of food. Everything is a good choice but above all else the prized steak cuts are what you should try your first time here

We live right across the street from Butch's Uptown and have eaten here several times and it's the best in Haverhill!! There are enough 5 star reviews that illustrate how great it is! The Prime Rib is my absolute favorite and the staff is top notch!! I wish I could eat there every week but even with their Low Prices we have to watch the budget...Love Love Love Butch's!!!

This is an excellent restaurant. It's a small quaint restaurant. I had a hard time finding it as it is somewhat hidden. A hidden treasure in Haverhill. The food was amazing. Staff friendly. Place was full! I ordered a grilled Salmon, baked potatoes and vegetables. I will absolutely be returning!

Wanted some place casual but still above average and after reading all the good reviews on Yelp, we went for it on a Saturday night. We got there just in time but while it was crowded and there was a slight wait for tables while we were there, it wasn't out of control. We sat at the bar and Julie took care of us. Scene was a good diverse crowd, young professionals and families. I will post pics of the bar area ( do we really need more food pics??) to give you a sense of the space. For starters, we tried the crispy wings after seeing another party with them. Wow. Very good and meaty wings. Better than most and a good sign of things to come. Cocktails were good (Butch's Manhattan hit the spot) and the main courses were good. I had the Surf and Turf special which was prime rib and stuffed shrimp. Very good and what???? Only $20? Cha Ching! Even better! We all walked out wishing we had found it sooner. Great casual vibe, good food, good drinks and another reason to go to Haverhill. It's located not far from the train station on a side street. The final bit of good news... A big old free parking lot. We shall return.

Yep, it is loud, but the food is excellent and at a reasonable price. We four had the prime rib, the lamb chops, the (special) fried clams and haddock with hand-cut French fries, and the greens & gorgonzola salad with steak tips. And we didn't empty our wallets in the process (e.g. prime rib queen size (huge rather than ginormous) for $20). All of the servings were plenty big enough, too. Everything was spot on, and all cooked exactly as we requested, even the asked for "lightly done" fish and clams. Everyone happy. No truffles or microgreens to be had here, just plain food, but executed extremely well. That's hard to find these days, certainly in this neck of the woods. House wines acceptable, decent selection of beers. My only complaint was the margarita, but then I'm fussy about those. If you like your cocktails interesting and fresh-tasting, steer toward the beer and wine instead. Maybe there are some other cocktails that are better, but many seemed to be made with mixes. But then, you get what you pay for - all drinks about $8. All in all, definitely worth going.

Quiet place, at least when we went there at about 3:00 in the afternoon, but what a great dining experience. We had the fresh haddock, and it was really fresh; nothing frozen. The accompanying rice and green beans were superb. We also had the chipotle and peach chicken, chicken breast with a spicy chipotle sauce that gave a nice burn. If you like spicy you'll like this. Those that don't like spice might find this a little hot. The coffee came from a local roaster, tasted like a Central American blend. Kudos for it being fresh and hot. A great dining experience and worth the money.

Went here for the first time today with my boyfriend and a friend. The food was delicious. We started off with the potato skins and they were really good. I got one of the specials for lunch. It was a teriyaki chicken panini with french fries. My boyfriend got the steak and cheese sandwich and loved it. It was really good and fresh. The service was a little on the slow side. I think there was only one waitress on. I wanted to order a drink, but I didn't receive a drink menu so I just got water.

Great experience. Went in during off hours, (2pm on a Monday) was seated promptly and had drinks in minutes... agave mustard dressing on my salad was great as was the presentation. ordered a small Frito misto, fried appetizer plate,(calamari and shrimp over various fried veggies) excellent and huge.... couldn't imagine ordering the large! followed with the butches cut prime rib. I was early but luckily they had some ready as its not usually available before 4. It was absolutely massive...seriously... Almost too big. Flavor was decent but needed to be seasoned better considering the size... Rice and potatoes were kinda blah. For dessert I had the "amazing brownie sundae" as directed by my waitress... Not so amazing...lol Kinda blah as well. No presentation.and I didn't get my coffee... All in all it was good... Not great. I'll give them another shot for dinner.

Fantastic prime rib. Attentive wait staff. Get there early on weekends as it can get busy. Not the best location but once inside it's nice.

My wife and I were driving to Cape Cod on Rt, 495 coming from Maine and searched for a place to have lunch in Haverhill. Butch's had some great reviews on Yelp and so we decided to go there, It was a wonderful decision! We found a nice athmosphere and a very clean place. On top of that, we were greeted by a friendly and smiling waitress (Jenny). The food selection was great and what we ordered was served fast and on hot plates, And..., everything was delicous too! Jenny also gave us some interesting information about Haverhill which was welcome. Routinely we drive by Haverhill on our way to and from Maine. We will drop in again! And....Jenny deserves a raise --- she is a KEEPER!

Thankfully the food is absolutely amazing, the hostesses + bartenders are overwhelmed with how busy it is, so the service is just okay. It also is really loud in here, so if you want to have a conversation plan on speaking very loud! We had Kelly for a waitress and she was awesome. I recommend her!!

This place is great. I've never had a bad meal here and I always leave stuffed. They have excellent seafood, steaks, pastas and other entrees. I really like the long list of cocktails. They don't have the biggest menu around, but they always have a lot of specials and their portions are HUGE! If yo get a pasta dish you get enough for two meals, and their alfredo sauce is to die for. The service is always friendly, but Friday and Saturday nights are VERY busy. I prefer to go after the dinner rush, when it's not as noisy.

I love Butchs. Been here three times, my only complaint is that a few foods I had were paired with sides that didn't quite match up. Almost as if they are trying new ventures with the food combinations. Very nice place for Haverhill and reminds me of most modern restaurants that I would frequent when I lived near Boston. Happy to have a place like this in the area!

Great spot tucked in the heart of Haverhill! Whether it's drinks by the bar, with a memorizing tin ceiling offering a great mix of cocktails, games in the background and or dinner in the cozy but comfortable dinner area, this humble abode will keep you coming! Our party ordered an array of appetizers which were plentiful and delish! The blacked salmon was just the right spices and not dry, personal pet peeve of mine! Service was up to par, with a smile and a sense of humor! So I was warned about the bread pudding by our server and guess what? Holy!!! Will make anyone break a diet in a hurry! Shall I say orgasmic! It was so amazing that our table was literally having a spoon fight over it! See you soon Butch's Uptown!

Fantastic meal! Fantastic staff! Clean warm cozy environment. My wife had the fresh fish and chips, and I had the amazing uncle Guido's cutlet dinner. Thin pork cutlet with traditional Italian Sunday gravy. Prices are unbelievably low for the quality of the food and atmosphere. A must try!

We love this new restaurant. We have been twice now and really, it is fantastic. Menu is excellent, food is always perfect, and service is attentive and stellar. They get fresh seafood in daily and I always get that. LOVE The coleslaw here. I dont think I have ever had a perfect coleslaw but I finally have. Prices are very fair and you get a hearty portion! The dining room an be a bit loud so next time we will try eating in the bar area.

Good food and good cocktails. Butch's has a nice setup for both the bar and the restaurant. Definitely a local Haverhill gem.

If you live in southern new hampshire on the Mass border, there are not a many good restaurants to choose from if you are use to dining in Greater Boston. Well other than Tuscan Kitchen which is superb (though pricey). So while the food here is not anything I would write home about, and not comparable to Boston dining, it's still a keeper. Most importantly because of the atmosphere. On Saturday night is was bustling with noise which for us was a good thing. The waiters were sweet and helpful, the drinks were very good, and very affordable. So overall the food was good (far from great, but also far from bad) which is all I expect and want when I'm paying little in comparison to city dining. To note the area seemed on the shadier side, so was a bit apprehensive to park there but it was fine. I would certainly go back again.

My wife found this cute little place on yelp, it was really good. We ordered the half Frito and it was huge and good! My wife ordered the burger and also was delicious! I got the mixed grill and man this was the best I have had in a long time! I am a professional chef and very picky! So you know forget about it!

Since this place opened, I've been wanting to try it, glad we did we really loved the food! The appetizers yummy I posted some picture of what my family and I ordered last Saturday. The place is really cool Decorated. The staff are very friendly and nice. The Menu has a variety of different Italian and American dishes. I am Definately coming back for the Frutti di mare, the best I had so far.

We were excited to go here after seeing it on phantom gourmet and reading all the rave reviews on yelp, it is a very clean nice place and plenty of free parking we went today (Friday) for lunch it was not very crowded just a few tables. We were seated right away and the waitress Kelly came over and took our drink order and then we waited for a while for her to come back with the drinks and when she did she dropped them off and went and took another tables order when she finally came back we both ordered the French dip and was told they had already sold out of it I was not happy it was only 12:00 and they opened at 11:30 so the waitress left again asking us if we wanted bread we said yes 10 minutes later she came back to take our order and again asked us if we wanted bread again we said yes. The food was good nice size portions and very fresh but the whole time we were eating we were shooing away fruit flies. We finished and waited again and then ordered the bread pudding and waited and waited finally I got up went to the manager and said please take the bread pudding off we are sick of waiting she apologized and the waitress was listening and yelled through the restaurant "what now she does not want it" the manager did not try to quite her and she kept bad mouthing us to the manger for all to hear very embarrassing then she came over with the bread pudding claiming it took so long because they had to make the whip cream. We declined and she finally brought over the new bill and dropped it off never apologizing. She was the rudest waitress I have ever come across, so we go to leave and the manager is standing there does not say a word to us not even a good bye or apology. They might have good food the terrible people skill I definitely will not ever go back.

This place is Hidden Gem my Friend and I went there Monday 4-6-2015 and loved it a lot. she had to Baked Haddock and I had The chicken parm and it was great the sauce was very tasty and didn't give me Heart Burn and Butch should bottle it and sell it I would definitely buy it and the place had Great Atmosphere and it is very cozy and the only thing is they should have Cold Glasses when serving a beer that would be a plus for me. I would am going to make it one of My Favorite Restaurant and I am very very picky when it comes to eat out and this place is now in my top five Favorites .so everyone needs to try this place you will like it too

We were looking for something different and stumbled upon Butch's. We are very grateful we did. I do not eat seafood ever! My fiancé ordered the baked haddock special and recommended that I try a bite. It was fantastic! Buttery extremely fresh. Worth every penny. I ordered the chicken Marsala and it was also fantastic. Our waitress was a doll! The drinks were different and delicious. I would recommend this place over and per again

We went as 2 couples and had a variety of fish, salad and meat entrees, all of which were really surprisingly good. My meal was fish and chips, with fried clams as well as fish, which I asked for very lightly done, and surprise, surprise, it actually came perfectly cooked - very impressive! If you're a prime rib fan, theirs is huge and our friend who had it like it a lot. The service was low key and very attentive, high marks. My wife had a margarita which was serviceable, but not particularly memorable. The only downside is that the dining room is extremely loud, and that was with only one other table occupied. The other couple had been there before when there were more people and said that conversation across the table was very difficult. If you intend to talk to your dinner companions you might want to go at an off hour. Overall highly recommended, we'll definitely be returning.

I was pleasantly surprised with Butch's and will definitely put this spot into the regular rotation. Was looking for a local place this past weekend, and drove around downtown with a few places in mind. We drove by Butch's as I have been wanting to try it, and when it passed the "drive by/look in" test, we parked and went inside. I am glad we did. We ended up sitting at a high top table in the bar area, which was perfect, but noticed there was a real nice dining room as well when I went to the bathroom. The menu is the perfect size. There is nothing worse than a place with six hundred thousand items and you cannot decide on something. They had a good selection of sandwiches and some entrees. Their special board was loaded with things and you can tell when a place runs out of a fish on their specials menu, then it has to be fresh. They certainly weren't defrosting fish in the back. I went with the broiler plate that was loaded with meats all cooked just how I asked for them. There was a potato on the side and some veggies, but the star was the meat. The steak tips were flavorful and marinaded nicely. The lamb chop was charred perfectly and really good. The sausage piece was tasty as well. Even the chicken (who likes chicken??) was delicious. I really have zero complaints. We also had a steak sandwich that was so big, it could have been shared. It was enormous. The fries it came with were hand cut, and you could tell. They were pretty tasty. There was a banana bread pudding on the special menu, and that had to be ordered. And much like everything else, it was delicious. It came with some vanilla ice cream that was just as good as everything else that was ordered. All in all, it was a quality experience and we will be back again. The drinks were nice and strong too. Nothing worse than a place that serves weak mixed drinks. The food could be out of this world, but if the drinks are weak, nothing else matters. Next time I try the prime rib...stay tuned...

One of the best places in Haverhill. The wait staff is very friendly. I had the French dip sandwich. It was awesome. Next time I'll ask to have the bread toasted. The Cole slaw is amazing.

Went here the other night with my Aunt to try something different and was pleasantly surprised. The decor was very nice as was the atmosphere. The menu was simple and seemed to offer something for everyone. Where they really shined were the specials. My aunt got the Surf and Turf special which consisted of a 10 oz. prime rib and shrimp which she substituted for Scallops. The prime rib looked like it was cooked perfectly and not being a real beef eater myself, even I thought it looked delicious. I got the Turkey dinner special which was a generous helping of mashed potatoes, turkey, stuffing, and green beans with a hearty side of real gravy. Also, our waitress was very nice and accommodated all of my aunts numerous requests without missing a beat. Can't wait to go back!

Haverhill hidden jewel. Offers a little bit of everything at reasonable price. Food is always consistent. Easy to get to Route 97 (Winter street) to Locke street. Use municipal parking on Locke street adjacent to back of restaurant. I recommend owners add a Butch's Uptown sign to back of building.

This amazing restaurant is own and run by a local family. I have always received the best service while dining at Butche's. They have varied specials that change daily. The baked haddock is my favorite, the fish is always extremely fresh. Don't miss out on the butternut squash either!

My husband and I went here for the first time last weekend. It was amazing. The atmosphere was really nice and the service was impeccable. We sat at the bar and it was perfect. Honestly, the best mussels I have ever had (white wine version.) My favorite part was how they came out piping hot. The crab cakes were unreal over the lobster bisque and the salad with tangy blue cheese and crunchy walnuts- so good. My husband had some type of pork sandwich that he still hasn't stopped talking about. I cannot wait to go back for date night or to meet some friends for dinner/drinks. Highly recommend this place.

We loved it here! The food was delicious. Both my husband and I were happy with our meals. I had fried clams and fish. They had a nice and light batter. I hate it when it's too thick. The French fries were actually really good. I'm not sure if they make their own but it seems like it. My husband had the trout with mango salsa which he really enjoyed. The sides, mashed potatoes and a fresh vegetable medley were also good. They serve warm bread and butter to start. One of my favorite things about this restaurant is the staff. The hostess was so sweet. She wanted us to try her favorite romantic table, but my husband wanted a different one so I can't comment on that. Our waiter, Mark, was wonderful. I wanted to invite him to dinner with us! He was very attentive and friendly. We'll definitely be back!

Update on Butch's Went there last Saturday, again.....This place seems like a second home to me!!! This time I tried Baked Haddock. I can't believe I never saw this on the menu! I've had the Fried Scallops a million times there (totally yummy every time), Salad with chicken and Mustard Agave dressing (delicious), Chicken Picatta (huge portion), Fried Haddock (super fresh and flaky), and now Baked Haddock. All I can say is HOLY MOLLY!!! The fish is over an inch thick. White, flaky, fresh and perfectly cooked. Topped with a mound (just the way I like it) of buttery toasted cracker crumbs. Delicious. I got mine with Rice Pilaf and the veggie was Zucchini Marinara. All for $ 14.00. This meal was delicious. If you like a thick piece of fish that flakes in juicy chunks, with a crunchy cracker topping, this is the place for you. It is very obvious they are picky about the quality of seafood they are buying, because they're scallops are better than our favorite seafood restaurants, and this fish confirms it! My husband got the smaller Prime Rib, which he did not completely finish, and said it was tender and tasty. The food is consistent here, the people super friendly and welcoming. We recently meet Samantha who was very friendly also. BTW, Beth is the party!!! Sandy,

I have to say Haverhill is slowly becoming a foodie destination outside of Boston. And with Butches Uptown, Boston take notice. We went for lunch and had the Mussels, the French dip prime, and steak tips gorgonzola salad. We finished with their signature desert Bread Pudding. They hit each one out of the park. Great environment and our server Mike made this gastronomical journey all the more perfect. For American comfort food and a quaint pub environment, dont look any further.....this is Mecca.

We tried Butch's Uptown for the first time this weekend and it did not disappoint! Every one was friendly and our waitress was great. They had some great specials and we got their pulled pork spring rolls (soooo good!), my husband got seafood stuffed haddock and I got a pasta dish with scallops and chicken. Everything tasted fresh and delicious plus the portion size was huge! We will definitely be going back there. Drinks were good too!

We went here for dinner. I had the baked stuffed haddock. It was a special. It was great. The fish was incredibly fresh and flaky. The portion was huge and the favors were so tasty. Also had the salmon which was cooked to perfection. Great favors that complimented the meal not overshadow it. The steaks were a great cut and cooked to perfection. I highly recommend this place. The stag. Is pleasant and the service was great. Prices are incredibly fair for the high quality and portion size. Excellent drink selection and desserts. Don't miss this one.

Went here at 2pm for lunch on a Tuesday. There was only 1 other couple in the restaurant side. The wait was surprisingly long. No explanation or apology given. However, the food was worth the wait. The cuban panini was large, hot and delicious. I took half home. My husband got the lamb sandwich and he was equally satisfied.

Ok, so I have only been here once which was last week for lunch with friends. Awesome food and great prices! Craving their calamari with delicious marinara sauce on the side. They literally melt in your mouth. Just add a drizzle of lemon and dip into that sauce and it is heaven! Going back today for lunch with my friend Dena and will get that and a side salad. Best food I have had in Haverhill for this price line especially! Can't wait to try it for dinner with my husband because I want their prime rib which is served after 4:30. Also, the service and atmosphere were both great!

Second time there....we went back because it was ok the first time around but the place was also empty due to a snow storm. Tonight's experience is titled, "two hours for pub fare?" Took 25 minutes to get a water and ice tea. Probably should have left then. Then my partner finally had to ask to put in an order. Salads came out after a bit. The hostess came out after we waited a long time for the mains to say our dinners would be out shortly the kitchen was backed up. 20 minutes after that my partner again spoke up looking for dinner. When it did finally get there, the burger was dry. The avocado was hard in places, and the grilled onions were tough and hard to chew. My partners spaghetti was also watery. The cole slaw was good but nothing you couldn't buy in a supermarket. I think we're over this place. While they have a nice wine list they don't seem to have the food or service worthy of serving with it.

This place is very good and extremely consistent. That is important when it comes to a restaurant. Always clean and comfortable. Food is always hot and fresh. Some reviews I've read about this place sound ridiculous. People that don't know food should not be allowed to write reviews. I am in the restaurant business so trust me I know what I'm talking about! I will be back and for those of you who haven't been go there and try the Butchs cut prime rib. You will not be disappointed!!

Great food, great atmosphere .. If anyone remembers the old Tap restaurant downtown, that's the quality and type of food to expect. If not they offer a nice sized menu with the best prime rib in the city, a variety of sandwiches, fresh seafood and great Italian cutlets.

My boyfriend and I were curious to try out this place when they first opened up right across the street from us. Decor and ambiance is great. We were greeted and promptly brought to a table as soon as we walked through the door. Our waitress was friendly, accommodating, and very helpful. Most importantly, food was amazing. My boyfriend had chicken tenders and french fries. The fries were well done and crispy, and the chicken was very flavorful. I chose to get the mussels in a butter, garlic, and white wine sauce. Everything was delicious. Would definitely recommend!!

My boyfriend and I went here for dinner and it was honestly the best dinner we have shared in a long time. He ordered the Chicup (scallops chicken tomatoes pasta) and I ordered the salmon (highly recommend the special seasoning with Roma tomatoes olive oil and basil)... On too of amazing food the service was the best! Such an attentive waiter. I am a waitress and have never rated a restaurant 5 stars until tonight. Manga manga folks!

Let me start out by saying the food was great! We had pulled pork spring rolls that cmae with a yummy dipping sauce and the best cole slaw I have had in a restaurant. My husband and I both had salads - spinach for him, wedge with grilled chicken for me. They were both very good. That being said - I will probably never go back there. The main dining area was so LOUD! My husband & I had a hard time having a normal conversation. The staff was friendly but not very attentive. The hostess started to seat us, asked us to wait a minute on the ramp into the dining room while she wiped down a table. She proceeded to wipe down 4 tables, raise the curtains, & cehck in on a table - all the while we were waiting in an awkward area. The server was very nice but did not check in at our table much.

Oh where to begin. Location is good. Plenty of parking. You walk into the bar area which was dead when we went. The hostess sat us. She was cold but easy on the eyes so it made up for her attitude. Dinner area was nice and super clean. The waiter was the best part of the experience. He was right there when we needed him. Worth the 20% tip. Now the food. The portions were huge and the prices were good. The quality of the food was a few steps above Walmart brand dog food. The restrooms were spotless and the only I found that out was that my dinner came out as fast as it went in. To each their own but I would never return here. If I wanted a stomach ache I would have gone to McDonalds and saved $70.

This was the first time I used Yelp to find a place to eat in an unfamiliar place. We are so pleased with our experience at Butchs. We had surf and turf. What a huge portion and delicious. We had cocktail shrimp. They were served on a platter and huge and delicious. We got dessert, even though we were way too full. The bread pudding, served warm, melts in your mouth. Atmosphere in the bar beautiful. Soft music, light jazz, tin ceilings, lots of windows, great service. Romantic setting. On a back street, quiet, lots of free parking. Can't say enough about our wonderful date in Haverhill. Telling my Haverhill friends to try it.

Dined this evening in the dining room based on a friend's recommendation. It was her first time the night before (a Friday) and she had nothing but good things to say about her experience. We were greeted and seated immediately around 5:45 pm. Our waitress, Felicia, couldn't have been more attentive, friendly and knowledgeable. Bread and butter was served almost immediately and the bread was very fresh. We missed seeing the specials upon entering but Felicia review them with us. I ordered one of the specials (fried haddock and claims with their home cut fries and cole slaw), my hubby, the Queen cut prime rib with 2 sides and he chose handcut fries and carrots. We also ordered two side salads and Felicia was kind enough to ask if we wanted our salads before our meals. Oftentimes we aren't asked and our salads arrive just a few minutes before our meals, which makes it less enjoyable. She scored big points with the hubby for asking. The side salads, $2.50 each are generous and fresh. Our meals did arrived fairly quickly and the portions (as noted in other reviews) are very generous. Though we both thoroughly enjoyed our entrees, we gave them a 4 star for two minor reasons - my hubby ordered his prime rib medium and he would consider what he received medium rare but didn't send it back since I traded some of my haddock for the prime rib and prefer mine the way it was served. The fried seafood was good but I felt the oil that was used seemed a little heavy for me. Our total meal, without drinks and tip totalled $41. A very reasonable tab for great food and service. We'll definitely be back!

My girlfriend and I were in the Plaistow, NH area and we used yelp to find decent places in the area to eat. The only non chinese food restaurant that got great reviews was Butch's Uptown haha so we decided to give it a shot. Yelp did not let us down! The food was pretty kick ass. Easily 4 - 4.5 stars just for the food and I'd give it 10 stars if I could for the price and service. Awesome staff from the host, server, to the bus boy. I had a conversation with each of them and it didn't feel forced or rehearsed. They all seemed like good people. The second best part was the price. It was $65 not including tip. My girlfriend had the stuffed shrimp and steak tips. I had the Butch's cut prime rib. It was the length of my forearm! The sides were pretty standard but good nonetheless. We also had a beer each. If we got the same meal in Boston it'd be $150 easily. They should open a Butch's Uptown to Waltham and I'd be there once a week. We'll definitely be back everytime we are in the area!

Showed up on a Saturday night @ 6pm for dinner with my husband and 8 year old child. Upon checking in we were told a 20 to 30 minute wait. Umm no, more like an hour wait. I get it's a Saturday night, but really?!? We ordered dinner, my son had a grilled cheese and did not like it, it was served on some funky type of wheat bread. My husband had fried scallops, they were ok, I've had better (hated the tarter sauce) I ordered a special, prime rib with baked stuffed shrimp, I was approached after I ordered that their was basically almost no prime rib left so I would be receiving a very tiny cut of rib....umm, ok, it's now 7:30pm on a Saturday night and out of prime rib? Veggies were good. Rib ok, nothing to write home about (plus no au jus served with it) baked stuffed shrimp ok. Would I return? No, sorry food is meh.

Very nice place with great food, excellent service and great martinis !! Went here with the wife and had a great dinner an a Friday night. No waiting and we were seated immediately Appetizer was the special - muscles !!! Oh so yummy with a very flavorful broth. Our server noticed we had eaten all our bread so she said she would bring us some more for soaking up the great broth!! Garlic & wine broth so good I could have drank it out of a cup! I had the cutlet parm with spaghetti and it was very good. just the right anount of sauce and a nicely cooked cutlet. My wife had the steak and thought it was really good. The martinis are good and strong !! We will be back here many times :)
