Went here last night and they need to seriously doing something about the bartender! What an absolute miserable man. He definately should not be working in customer service.

I came here because of a Groupon for a Paint Nite! event. The server signed to the slightly rowdy crowd was a nice young man but rather unprofessional, wandering around the event with a torn-out notepad sheet taped to his forehead. The words, "do you need a drink?" were scrawled across the piece of paper. I ordered a draft beer and when it finally arrived, he spilled a bit of the beer on the table. After the Paint Nite! event, my family and I decided to stay for an early supper. We had seen a server walk past us with a plate of the house nachos, and they looked delicious. We were ushered to another table (not a problem- the Paint Nite staff were cleaning up), where we waited for fifteen minutes to be checked on for a drink order and get menus. Not too long after that, the live music guy set up. He promptly launched into an extremely loud and poorly sung set, over which my tablemates and I had to shout to be heard. Eventually, our waitress (she didn't give us her name but I later learned it was Val or something like that) came over with two of our drinks. A few minutes later, two more. Then my drink finally came over and we wanted to give her our dinner order. "Uh, hang on so I can get my note pad," she said, before she disappeared for another ten minutes. An hour and ten minutes later, we were finally able to snag our waitress and we asked her what was taking so long to get our food. She told us, "uh, that's a good question. Maybe the kitchen's backed up? I don't know. Maybe I can check," and she never gave us an answer. Twenty minutes later, she finally showed up with our food. No explanation as to why our food took an hour and a half to show up, no apology, no personality. Just food, which actually was fairly decent (except the batter on my fish [fish'n'chips] was very floury and over-browned) and very large portions. After dinner, we hunted down a manager, who was very, very touchy-feely and condescending. He dismissed our complaints and comped us... For one drink... The cheapest drink, the cheapest thing on the ticket. I only stuck in that second start because the food was surprisingly tasty. Poor service, extremely loud environment, and an overall bad experience. I will not return.

Something happened when they moved from the River St. location and changed their name from "Archie's Place". The food used to be pretty great for standard pub food. Since the move, the food is terrible, the new atmosphere and building are terrible, I find it amusing that the inside is always empty, but the lot full of cars since people park here to run errands around Lafayette Square. Archie is the miserable man mentioned below who tends the bar and he was always just as miserable at the old place too. He's too cheap to do karaoke, trivia or anything else that might bring in some people. It's boring and dark inside with no atmosphere. I used to frequent this place and now I avoid it at all costs. 2 stars only because I've never has a problem with the waitstaff who I feel bad for.

2.5 stars... I went here for dinner and the food was not excellent, but it wasn't horrible either. The menu selection is diverse pub food fare. If you come here looking for a fancy meal- you are in the wrong place. I had a burger which was decent- cooked exactly to my specifications. The fries were very crunchy and tasty. The only complaint I had was that the Cajun fries were just the normal house fries sprinkled with some random season-all seasoning- still good, but not what I was expecting. Service was decent, restaurant was clean, food came out fast. Place was fairly empty for dinner time, although the parking lot looked like the place was packed. Overall I was not wowed for dinner, but I could see this place as more of a get a drink, hang out a the pub place.

There's nothing I really like or dislike about this place. They have a fairly good tap selection but there's just something boring About being here. I never ate here because the prices are a little high for the pub atmosphere that it is.

My husband and I went there for lunch after church today and it was a pleasant experience. We have heard good things from friends and family members and decided to give it a try! We were first shocked that there was no one there and at first didn't even think they were open. Because we were the only diners we had excellent service and the food came out quickly. The food was pretty good not amazing but definately would go again. The only negative thing were the prices. They seemed a little high to be bar food. I would recommend giving them a try!

My husband, friends and I frequent Archie's. We are there at least once a week and have been for over a year. Great food, and fantastic staff. The entertainment is some of the best around. One of our favorite places in Haverhill.
