Swung by to pick up a family meal. The food is solid. The pizzas are hearty and flavorful, and the chicken finger sub is a must try. Be aware, you may need a nap afterwards. On top of the chicken finger sub, we got the Mamas special pizza and the Southern pizza. I would recommend both. They had some family special coupons, which we didn't know about, but they tossed in a cheese pizza anyways. Solid food when your in the mood for a hearty, heavy meal, and have time for a nap afterwards.

Great local business that's got quality and speed. The food is always solid and consistent. I always order their subs, and I often find myself going back to their honey mustard chicken sub. The size is extremely valuable for the price you pay. Bunch of locals always return and I totally understand why. Not a good place for you to sit and have q conversation. It's one of those places you should just pick up your food and go. They deliver as well so that's a plus.

Great little mom & pop sub shop tucked away in a corner of Cambridge. The chicken fingers are the best I've ever heard, and their honey mustard sauce takes it to the next level. Their subs are delicious too, especially the buffalo chicken sub. A large one could probably feed a family of 4!

Got a couple of calzones from here a while back. They were huge, and filled with a ton of cheese. The only thing that takes a star away is that we picked them up. When we went to go get our order and drive it back to our place (down the road past alewife) we opened them, and had to heat them up in the oven because they already were cold. Also, be warned that their parking lot is super small and always busy. Make sure not to order during a peak time.

My wife and I were new to town and were in the mood for pizza. Ma Magoo's is right up the street from us so we figured we'd give it a try. We ordered a large pizza and a greek salad. The salad was pretty solid. Crisp lettuce and veggies, lots of feta, and the dressing was good. The pizza left a lot to be desired. Nothing wrong with the toppings, overall fresh and plentiful. There was just very little sauce and it was undercooked. In my opinion, pizza crust should be crispy from the edges to the center, theirs was very doughy. For a Pizza & Sub Shop, their pizza just didn't hit the mark. Maybe we'll try the chicken fingers next time.

I eat here semi-regularly for lunch, and unfortunately, Ma Magoo's has a habit of ruining what would have otherwise been a good meal by putting whatever you order in styrofoam followed by a paper bag. This will ruin anything that's supposed to be crispy; like say, a cheeseburger club and onion rings. The taste was decent; but the meal was ruined by the wet bread, soggy onion rings and wet fatty bacon. I went early to pick it up but the damage had already been done. Wet bread and a sandwich you can't pick up. Super disappointing.

O m g........ 1st stop on my trip to Boston .... This place is simply amazing, I'm from Texas and hands down the best chicken fingers with honey mustard are the bee's knees. I had the Italian sub toasted and my wife had the meatball sub both were out of this world best subs we have ever eaten. Mother in law went with the cheese burger and homemade onion rings also very good. I'll be back tomorrow !!!

I work a very short walk from Ma Magoo's, and have been here many times, but I am probably taking my business elsewhere after today. A guy I work with is a vegetarian, and loves a certain vegetarian sandwich Ma Magoo's offers. Sometimes it isn't available, so he always calls to make sure. This time, he calls confirms the sandwich is available, and orders two other sandwiches, one of which is for me. This is at 2:24pm. Fast forward to 3:35 when he arrives back at work. He had texted me saying he thinks they didn't have the veggie patty, but couldn't get a straight answer, but the order was taking forever. He worked in a pizza shop when he started working with me, and after asking a few times, found out that the order had been finished, bagged and was sitting and waiting while he stood at the counter. So effectively, I paid nine bucks to wait more than an hour for a club sandwich and flavorless fries, all of which were soggy and falling apart after an extended stay in a Styrofoam box. (Uploading pics in a moment) Because I expected it 45 minutes earlier, I couldn't eat it for another hour, and couldn't go back since I was at work. It's a decent pizza/ sub shop, but now I just can't trust them.

I'd been wanting to come here for months ever since I heard about their honey mustard chicken sandwich. I finally made it over here and was delighted to find it was everything I hoped it would be. The chicken was delicious and crispy. The bread was soft, and the honey mustard was so good. The sandwich was huge, enough for 2 or 3 meals. It was really delicious.

Amazing, I totally understand the rave reviews. I get the same thing every time I've gone so far which is the cheeseburger sub. It was one of the best of all time, I get it with just ketchup, like a boss. There is a great selection of sides, and I will be returning as frequently as possible. Basically if you're in this area, this is the spot to go to. I've tried a few of the local places, and even spending more does not offer this amount of flyer. Don't let the low prices fool you, use the force.

Traveled from somerville to arrive at 8:10 pm( posted close time is 8:30p) on Sunday and was told " we're closed". What a waste of my time and urgency to get there in time and then to be turned away. Never again my business. Good luck.

All you need to know about this place is that they sell crack. Honey Mustard Crack that is. And it's amazing in every way imaginable. I've been coming here since my Belmont High days.. So over 10 years now. I've had a few other things but it's mainly the same order. Large Honey Mustard Chicken Finger Sub with mayo and lettuce - half for now, half for later. It never disappoints! They have been consistent throughout the years and they never skimp on the chicken. The chicken itself is delicious. Real white meat chicken and you can really taste the freshness. It's fried perfectly and is nice and juicy. Their bread is also great and has a nice chew. It also doesn't get soggy which is rare these days. You won't go wrong with anything you order from this place but clearly the chicken finger sub is the winner. The staff has always been friendly and service has always been great. I usually pick up but there are a few tables and I don't remember there ever being a time when it's been empty. Do yourself a favor and get yourself a sub from this place

Honey mustard chicken finger sub is the star of course, but steak and cheese sandwiches are great too. That the pizza is pretty decent puts this to five stars. Order a regular, not a large, sandwich unless you're extraordinarily hungry.

Been here once. Ordered a steak bomb, and while it was not bad, I have certainly had better. The portion size was very generous and the pricing seemed in line with other local such. Shops. The location is pretty convenient just off the alewife rotary. The ambience leaves a lot to be desired. Typical hole in the wall sub shop. I'd go back if I were in the area, but I wouldn't rush back. Love the name, by the way.

I've been coming here since I was a small brat. The food is delicious. The house made honey mustard dressing is amazing. I usually dunk my fries in it. Delicious mom & pop sub shop.

4 words: Fried clam strip dinner. Seriously the best I have ever had outside Cape Cod. My fiancé swears by the chicken strip sub. Always a nice meal to bring home on a movie night.

Gross!!!! No employees wear gloves. I now understand why I got sick when a coworker got me takeout. When I went into get a couple of slices on Wednesday I walked out when no one was wear gloves and touching counter money garbage can. 3 different employees. No one out of the we hole staff wore gloves but touched food. Stay away!!!!###

At first, I was romanced by their honey mustard (and accompanying chicken fingers). But then I discovered the cheeseburger sub. It's essentially a cheeseburger on a fresh, chewy sub, and the best part is--it never has to end. And the other best part is, that on Tuesdays it is the "Sub of the Day" which means my gigantic (aka the medium size), never-ending cheeseburger plus a can of soda (or in my case, a bottle of water) is less than $7. Now put that all together--cheeseburger sub with lettuce, tomatoes, ketchup, and honey mustard--and I'm smitten.

Their honey mustard chicken finger sub is a winner - bread, chicken, sauce everything. I also like their spaghetti and marinara sauce. Their fried calamari is good too. A order a lot from here and it's fast and dependable.

    (5)
  • Sam M.

Service has gone down hill. Very disorganized with take out orders no process has led to long waits and cold food. (Ie: food sat there even though I was there for 10+ mins waiting for them to call my name) still good food, but need to pick up their game.

    (2)
  • Paul H.

Decent pizza place, I worked nearby and I there a lot, I explored the menu, from pizza to subs to pasta, it was nothing special, but it was a solid stop if your hungry.

    (3)
  • Ryan D.

Had the vaunted chicken finger sub with honey mustard. It's a 3 star sub with 4 star value. I mean really, it's good but it's not explosive tasty like most seem to think it is. It gets 4 stars simply because it's size. I mean the "small" is anything but. It's a monster. That with chips and a drink for $9.75? Not. Too. Shabby. I'm from out of town, so if I come back I'll try something different. It's worth another visit, that's for sure. Even with the dude behind the counter making pizzas glaring angrily at me. I guess he didn't like my suit. Haha.

always great food and service.. One caveat (coming from a big man and professional eater) dont order a large sub unless you have a friend, or want half for lunch and half for dinner :-)

This review is specifically to review the atomic yellow honey mustard chicken sub. IT IS SO GOOD. One time, my boyfriend and I EACH got a large honey mustard chicken sub and ate the whole thing. People were eyeing us like "ew what are you eating" and we were like "we don't actually care what you think because this is the best thing ever!" We have been loyal Ma Magoo's customers for over 5 years now. We don't go that often (a few times a year) but when we do we are always happy and full. We have recommended this sub specifically to many friends and so on and so forth. The word about this sub is spreading like wildfire. Just go. Go to Ma Magoo's and get this sub. You might feel guilty about it later but live in the moment and make yourself happy.

The chicken finger sub with honey mustard is out of this world! Great cheese pizza too. I've actually never been there. I've only gotten take out, and I wasn't the one who picked it up, so I can't comment on the appearance. However I could eat the chicken finger sub for every meal forever! No joke.

  • Jackie S.

Not quite sure what has happened to this place, but they have gone down hill. I work at an office with over 100 employees and we have been loyal customers for many years, ordering from them multiple times a week. The food always came fast, and fresh. The last couple of months, however, we've gotten argumentative people taking our orders, the food is taking over an hour....sometimes an hour and a 1/2 to get to us, despite the fact they are less than a mile away. Of course by the time it actually gets to us everything is cold and soggy. I don't know if there has been a management change, or just all new employees....but whatever the case they need to do something, fast, before they lose their loyal customers.

Get chicken fingers and honey mustard. You're welcome!!! I don't even like honey mustard but I'd put this on anything...a coworker convinced me to try it. I don't love fried food either but this is my new vice!!!

    (5)
  • Adam Q.

EXCELLENT food...incredibly hard to get to and park at during busy traffic hours because it's RIGHT in the middle of two rotaries in Cambridge. And the place is tiny, so it's very tight when you get in there. Your best best bet is to call your food in and get it to go. They have 2-3 tables at best and it's SUPER crowded in there. Extremely good food though.

I can ALWAYS count on Ma Magoo's for quick efficient delivery of HOT food. There chicken fingers are beyond good there excellent!! They definitely make them homemade ( no freezer crap here) The store made honey mustard is gold in a tub!! They have decent seafood too which is shocking for a sub shop. Personally I find the : Chicken fingers Burgers Calzones , Salads & Onion rings delicious!!! There seafood can be good it just depends on the day of the week that you order it. (ask if it's freshly delivered ) Being from New England I can tell if seafood is not fresh.... I don't care for the pizza ( Greek ) I prefer Italian thin crust but you can't win em all right? All & all a great place to eat !! Delivery rocks!! Online ordering is simple and efficient!! I have NEVER had a mistake in my order and I order from this place at least once a week. So happy there is a yummy dependable sub shop in my area.

I'm gonna review the Chicken Ceasar Wrap I had yesterday... There are basically 5 main ingredients in a chicken ceasar wrap 1) Chicken 2) Lettuce 2) Croutons 3) Parmesan cheese 4) and of course Ceasar dressing The Ma Magoo's chicken ceasar wrap had only 2 of these, the chicken and the lettuce. They replaced the most important ingredient, ceasar dressing, with italian dressing. How do you leave ceasar dressing out of a chicken ceasar wrap?!?!?! Then to top it off they threw tomatoes and onions in the wrap! Huh??!!?!?! WTF?!? Call it what it is, an italian chicken wrap, not a chicken ceasar wrap. A terrible wrap.

  • David B.

Top notch. Best chicken fingers / chicken finger sub. Try their honey mustard. It will blow your mind. Have also since tried a bunch of items. Not a HUGE fan if the pizza. It was still good. But the sandwiches and chicken are impressive. Perfect hangover food if you drink.

I went to Ma Magoo's for the first time yesterday and I was looking for that home made, crunchy crust and boy I got what I asked for! The place was great, pizza was ready when they said it would be and they didn't skimp too much on the toppings! Will go again soon!

A big "food secret" about the Boston Area is that for a reasonably low price you can buy a meal at an independent Greek or Italian pizza & sub shop that is so enjoyable it might as well be expensive gourmet food - it's great tasting food "For the rest of us". Ma Magoo's is the epitome of the great "sub shops" in the Boston area and is well worth visiting again and again. One word describes this place: mouthgasm.

    (5)
  • Michael B.

To date the best pizza I have eaten in Boston! I was staying in Alewife at the Tria hotel when I spotted a sign saying "Serving great food for over 30 years". I thought to myself ... any place in Boston that has been open for 30 years must be pretty damn good. So I decided to give it a try. This place is not exactly designed to have lots of people sitting in there. It was small and cramped, but did have 3-4 tables. It's strength is not the dining experience but the amazing food. I ordered a custom pizza and oh man! It was delicious! I highly recommend this place! I plan to try the subs next time I am in town.

  • Steven R.

I've only ever gotten the chicken finger subs with honey mustard but they are out of this world. Fresh bread, generous amounts of chicken topped with delicious house made honey mustard. The large is so big that I rarely can finish it. Definitely worth a try if you're in the mood for a good sub.

    (4)

This place is a great cheap lunch spot. I've had the fried eggplant sandwich and chicken gyro. Both great. Reasonably priced also.

  • Bridget R.

I came in here just for the name. I mean, how can you not try a place called Ma Magoo's? They have a great location right at the Fresh Pond Rotary and there was plenty or parking when I was there. I have to warn you, a large sub at Ma Magoo's is very, very large. I could barely eat half as one meal. They have a very extensive menu of mostly subs and wraps. The sub I ordered was pretty good. Nothing to write home about, but pretty decent indeed. Not a bad value for the money. If you know someone hungry that likes what you like, stop by Ma Magoo's and go halvsies with them on a large. You'll both be full and for short money. I've only been there the one time but I would definitely try them again.

  • Carol S.

I used to live around the corner. THE BEST PIZZA AND SUBS, period. Prices were fantastic. Only problem is the wait if you want it delivered. Also, the parking lot is terrible and you have to cross a rotary that you are taking your life in your hands, but the food is great When I get back there, I am going to MAMagoos!

  • Damien S.

Sub shop/chicken torture chamber with an infectious name. And right in my backyard! The menu revolves around their infamous hand-breaded, then hacked to hell chicken tenders, piled liberally in to a dense French loaf and smothered in your choice of sOWce. Always pronounce sauce sOWce. It makes you sound tough. On initial reaction, I'd toss this apparent stoner's paradise in with the rest of the drunchies rat pack, and supply a tepid review. Fry what's frozen and salty, get it wet and bask in the cheap carb heaven you've bestowed to the masses. But Ma Magoo's steps it up by making clear everything is made in-house: the marinara, fresh fried tenders, meatballs, the infamous neon honey-mustard, yada yada. And with that, the standard sub escalates above sub-standard, thanks to the tiny sprinkle of love and a splash of elbow grease (which, by the way, is surprisingly non-greasy). The next trip belongs to meatballs.

I ate here tonight and I have to say this was perfect! We had the buffalo wing plate and the cheeseburger plate, both were excellent! Seriously some of the best wings I've had in a very long time. The cheeseburger was excellent too. The prices were great and service was really nice too. Easy parking, and a nice atmosphere. The whole thing was great, I highly recommend checking this place out, thanks for excellent food!

A solid "I need something fried/greasy/artery-clogging deliciousness" place. The portion sizes are gigantic and well-priced. I had the honey mustard chicken sub, and the dude had a gigantic steak sub. It was packed on an early Sat evening, so it might be better to call ahead for pickup.

First of all, I was born in Cambridge, MA and have been to Ma Magoo's Pizza & Sub shop about 100x's+ (literally). This is without a doubt, my favorite sub shop, and when I go home every year for a visit, I make sure I visit Ma Magoo's. I had a bad experience with my Chihuahua eating my steak & cheese sub a long time ago. I freaked out and almost killed the little bastard, that's how much I love these subs. The dog lived, but never touched my subs again. Their steak & cheese subs are to die for. The only other places that makes them as good are in New York and Philadelphia. They use the real large Italian Bread. You know, the one you use to make garlic bread for your spaghetti. They put lots of steak & cheese on this bread. The juice from the steak just oozes through the bread and it tastes incredible. Some of the steak gets a little crisp from the grill and the sauteed onions just enhances the flavors. I can't wait to get mine in 30 days as I'll be back in Cambridge for a visit. Can't wait. It's one of the places I look forward to. I'm giving them 4 stars, only because I haven't tried everything on their menu. Just their subs and salads. I've never tried their pizza, so I don't know how good that is. Their subs are fantastic though. Their salads are good as well. This is definitely a place you must check out and try. It's right off the Fresh Pond parkway just before you hit the mall and the bridge that will take you to (T - Train Station), Mass Ave and into Arlington. If you don't look for it on the right, you'll easily fly right by it. Enjoy.

Ma Magoo has been praised for their chicken finger honey mustard sauce subs. But I noticed something difference about this place. Their steak tip salad is second to NONE. they put the steak tips on the side in a seperate container. This makes a huge difference. To all steak tip salad lovers, this is a must try!! I give four stars becuase I get delivery 99.9% of the time. I would love for their delivery time to be cut by 15 mins on any occasion.

Went there with co worker to try while on business trip. Good sign when the placed is packed with locals and the phone is ringing off the hook. I ordered a boring sub and it was awesome. Coworker enjoyed his italian sub, and he is italian and can judge. Definately going back.

Horrible time here I came here with the wife we ordered 2 subs .. I got a steak bomb she got a grilled chicken sub. The steak was dry and had no flavor I can't speak for her sub because I didn't try it.. As we were getting ready to leave I wanted our subs wrapped for later, as I was waiting in line a construction worker came in and asked for a towel or something to wipe his hands with . They gave him the wet towel they use to wipe counters with , the construction worker proceeded to squuze this towel and as he did he got dirt water from the towel on my subs . Ended up throwing everything away and leaving pissed off . Dirty shitty place

Get the chicken finger sub, with lettuce, tomatoe and extra honey mustard sauce. Then, let the sheer amazingness of this sandwich overtake you. My number one junkfood of choice. The only downside is that sometimes they seem to prepare the chicken fingers ahead of time and they aren't freshly fried for your sandwich. Usually only an issue on a slow day. In any event, you won't be disappointed. The other food on the menu is ok, but this sandwich is the real star here.

    (4)
  • Patrick M.

If you're not familiar with Ma Magoo's then you probably aren't aware of the fact that they are home to the greatest homemade honey mustard. This honey mustard comes Dank Tank approved. They even sell it in containers next to the Gatorades. I recommend buying some for your special someone's next birthday. For about a year the hardest decision of every Sunday afternoon while I was sitting on the couch would be whether to order the chicken stir fry sub or honey mustard chicken finger sub. That's when I realized I could have the best of both worlds and began ordering the chicken stir fry sub drenched in honey mustard. The rest they say is history.

I have never had a bad sandwich or over priced meal from this place. No matter what you order everything is great from the tuna sub, chicken parm, chicken finger sub, meatball, or steak and cheese. The large subs are way to much food for one person and the smalls are still pretty big for one person. Very good food, great prices and great location. Parking can sometime be an issue, but worth the wait. Don't try and make small talk with the staff during the lunch rush they may punt you out on your %&($# The Chicken Finger sub is by far the most popular according to the person behind the counter at least every other sub is a chicken finger. I ordered a small one with the house mustard( GREAT MUSTARD!) lettuce and diced pickles and the chicken was all white met with a fresh breading and fresh bread. I could hardly finish a half of small since they stuff this thing with way to much chicken. GREAT FOOD AND GREAT PRICES!

This place does not need a review from me, they have too many. But, it was good, and is good. -1 star, they overserved me on at least two occasions. -1 star, it looks like a dive +1 star, it's hidden so you feel like you have found a real treat

  • Billy E.

When you order a chicken finger sub the honey mustard sauce is pretty much implied, as it should be. If you can handle any more than the regular size then you are a certified beast. The guy who seemed to be running the place was a bit of a hardo but it's tough to take him seriously because hes working at a place called "Ma Magoo's" overall seems like solid spot

    (3)
  • Brandee S.

hidden gem in fresh pond. First off - the subs are huge! 2 (or 3 small ones) people can share one easily. The Chicken Parmesan is the winner. My next trip here I will try the pizza.

  • Tonya Z.

I went here while I was visiting a friend last week and have been dreaming of going back since. I got the large Tuna melt- bread was amazing- tuna was good and the pickles were fantastic! The bread and pickles were the selling points. After reading the reviews I guess I need to try the honey mustard, but the next stop there will be a simple ham and cheese with pickles.....this is the best sub shop I have been ti in awhile!

How did I ever drive by this place hundreds of time and never stop in. My boss bought lunch the other day and picked up sub from here and wow ... giant.. reasonable prices and great tasting. The honey mustard and chicken finger sub was out of this world. a home run!!

Me: "Hello?" Magoo: "Hello Ma Magoo's" Me: "Oh, you're here?" Magoo: "No, just checking on your address. Did you say you were at (enter my address)" Me: "Yes, but please come to the back door." Magoo: "There is no back door at that place." Me: "Yes there is." Magoo "I've been to that building. There is no back door." Me: "Really? Because I've been to this building too, being that I live here. I'm pretty sure there's a back door." 10 minutes later... Me: "Hello?" Magoo: "Hello Ma Magoo's" Me: "Are you here?" Magoo: "Yes" Me: "Are you at the back door?" Magoo: "Yes" *Walks to back door. Sees nobody.* *Walks to front door.* Me: "You just said you were at the back door-" Magoo: "Oh. sorry. Thought this was." OMG, seriously?! Epic fail, Magoo. Clearly, this was a trick question I was asking. This was a conversation from 3 years ago. Since then, I have ordered from them 3 other times. Each time, they call to tell me they are here. I ask if they are at the back door, as requested. They say yes. I walk to the back door. They are not. And this is a building with the address and big double doors in the front, intercom after the big double doors in the front. Only one way into the area where the building is...the front doors you hit right away...very clearly and unmistakably the front of the building... I do not live within the Gillette Stadium. It's not that tough to drive the extra tiny bit around to the back door to deliver me my damn greasy food. Oh yeah, the food...like I said, greasy. Good though if you are in the I don't want to be healthy tonight mood. Also good if you are in the I feel like walking to my back door, then through the building to my front door mood.

I'm still full! Great sandwiches that can't be beat by any place in or around Boston. The chicken finger sub is huge and tastes great, while the timely and polite service is much appreciated. I will return and with a larger appetite.

Honey Mustard. Downside: delivery guy was smoking when he brought our subs once. Thats a big no in my book.

Level1: Chicken finger honey mustard sub: been there, done that, amazing. (try it with hots or jalapenos for a spicy kick) Level 2: Take a friend, get a Chicken Finger sub with Honey mustard, then a buffalo sub with lettuce/tom/blue cheese, each eat half. Use the chicken finger honey mustard to cool the bite of the buffalo, such a great pairing. Level 3 (Masters only): Large chicken finger pizza, covered in hots (sub topping, ask for some in a container and pour them on) and drenched in honey mustard. With honey mustard on the side for dipping. Level ?: Next for me to try: Chicken finger calzone with hots and honey mustard. Good jalapeno poppers, amazing honey mustard which makes anything it touches delicious, great spicy fries, fish and chips, pastrami, etc etc etc. Its a sub place that offers something DIFFERENT from the cookie cutter subs every other pizza place around here offers.

My husband and I went here yesterday for lunch. They offer 2 sizes of subs: medium and large. The mediums were huge (probably about 10-12")! His buffalo chicken sub came out steaming hot and the chicken was delicious. I only managed to eat half of my American sub (probably b/c I filled up on their awesome onion rings), and they wrapped up the rest for me. Everyone who worked there was polite, friendly and hard-working. It was sweet to see one of the employees (maybe the owner?) hand a lollipop to a little kid waiting with his mom. We're going to have to go back to try some of their other dishes as well as their honey mustard!

Haven't ever been dissatisfied at this place. Great sub shop. Portions are MASSIVE. The large subs are definitely for extreme hunger only. A large chicken finger sub is a like an entire chicken finger dinner on top of a sub full of chicken fingers. Would definitely recommend!

Okay, so I should preface this by saying that me Dad would bring us here way back when Love Beads were in...It was THE place to get a Sub back then. I hadn't been in ages, and got a chicken parm sub that, though large, was extraordinarily bland. The sauce had NO Flavor, and the one thing that it had going for it was that the chicken had actually been sauteed. Some places just throw frozen chicken pucks in the deep fryer. It was also cold. *sigh* I brought a steak and cheese sub back for one of the guys, and he actually made a face while eating it. I felt bad.

This is one of, if not the best sub-shop I have been too; all around. The food is excellent and plentiful. I would recomend the fried chicken subs (either the buffalo chicken or the honey mustard). I have eaten probably about 30% of the different things on the menu and have never really been disapointed. The reason I havn't tried more of the food is I revert back to the classics so much. I've been eating here for at least 15 years, and have given them lots of $ and never regretted a cent. Good food, fair prices, delicious... eat here

HONEY MUSTARD CHICKEN FINGER SUB. That's all there is to say. However, I will amuse you with a short story of my first trip to Ma Magoos. Our company moved to Alewife about three months ago. We have been looking for places to eat lunch and decided on Ma Magoos to get out of the office. We pulled into the tiny parking lot and an angry citizen was displeased we were waiting for a spot to open up, slightly blocking his cars path to the main street. Yelling from his car he threatened to punch my colleague in the face. We laughed. He then got out of his car and came over to ours yelling. He was wearing a Champion sweat suit with no sleeves. I was scared. Overall, huge portions, cheap prices, and the honey mustard chicken finger sub. 5 stars

Chicken Finger Sub is incredible here. The pizza is pretty good but I wouldn't get pizza here. Get a SUB! Buffalo Chicken Tenders or Chicken Tenders with Honey Mustard. Can't go wrong!

Truely a hidden Gem!!!! this place has the greatest buffalo chicken meals ever... and the honey mustard sauce is the cherry on top

  • Erin C.

Mmm...eggplant parm sandwiches. Thank you, Thank you, Thank you Ma Magoo. You put just the right amount of messy sauce, breaded eggplant and cheesy goodness on your sandwich. I wanted to try everything I heard people ordering. Next time?...decisions, decisions, decisions!

In every place where I have spent a significant amount of time I have found a go to delivery place for my standard delivery food needs. Spring Mills PA - Brothers Pizza, State College PA - V&S Subs; now that I live in Cambridge I have been conducting interviews for some time. Three Aces - terrible, Armando's - plain, Royal - very close but not quite there. Ma Magoo's is that place. Much has been said about their chicken finger / honey mustard sub (which I order regularly and is spectacular) however it's the fillers that make this a great spot. Wing dings and an Italian sub (a classic), onion rings and club sandwich (for my wife), steak tips and fried clams (only in New England)... These are all favorites, which are recreated faithfully to standards which I have come to expect from the best mom and pop spots across the country. Fast service, great food, good prices. All you really need from you neighborhood delivery spot

Mixed review. The staff was friendly enough. The pizza was not very good, C- at best. The steak tip sub, on the other hand, was quite good, and messy the way I like 'em.

*ding ding ding* In the ongoing fight of Man vs. Sub, the sub will always triumph if it's from Ma Magoo's. Due to a large difference in contender weight class, you'd incorrectly assume that man would triumph and finish the sandwich off in round 1, or at least leave only scraps around the ring...but you'd be wrong. These chicken subs involve the equivalent of two meals for even some self-proclaimed long-trained male fighters. In order to avoid food coma, I tend to order the gyro which is easily conquerable and even more tasty than my friends' favorite - the buffalo chicken beast.

Ma Magoo's has the most amazing Honey mustard Chicken finger sandwich in the world!! it is so amazing. i get it with American cheese. yummy. definitely give it a try. it is also very affordable. there other food is good too!

MaMagoo's what a funny name. It is a fast place to grab a slice, sub, wrap, or fried fetish. Its very fast and cost efficient, however I feel their food is under seasoned. Be careful in that parking lot and the busy parkway! Yikes!!

  • Emily B.

To start this off, let me just say I am a huge fan of buffalo chicken at any time and any place. So when I say Ma Magoo's makes DELICIOUS, maybe the best you've ever had buffalo chicken calzone, you better believe it! I've never been disappointed in the quality of their calzones, they somehow manage to cram those buddies with perfectly cooked and seasoned chicken every time. I can't vouch for all the items on their menu (I have yet to try any actual pizza) but I can say their chicken calzones and subs are divine.

I don't live in Boston. I was staying at the Tria around the corner on business. I walked by this place a couple of times, and it had that kinda "may be not very clean" look to it on the outside.. I dunno. I'm from California and maybe I'm just a snobby california douchebag. Probably. In any case, my last night here, i didn't want to eat whole foods (WHole PAYCHECK) from the other side of the Tria again, so I went to Ma Magoo's, based on the Yelp reviews I saw. So I got the Chicken Fingers Sub, and a side of the clam strips. A lot of food for one person. I ate half the sub and most of the clam strips. It was f#$king great. And that honey mustard IS the best. It's good bread, chicken strip bits, and mustard. That's it. Perfection. I really wish there was a greek sub/pizza place like this in Santa Rosa CA. I bet it wouldn't be as good, though.

Our favorite pizza. Straight up Greek style za for those that know and love the Greeks. Ask them for gyro, tomato, and feta and if you are disappointed you should get your taste buds examined.

I love this place. Everything on the menu is delicious (I like the tuna sub the best). The subs are HUGE; I split one large sub between lunch and dinner. Very quick, nice service. Once I dropped my mozzarella sticks on the ground. I didn't say a word, but seconds later a cook came out from the kitchen to help me clean up and gave me a whole new plate with more mozzarella sticks than I had originally! So nice! The only thing is that it's better to carry out than eat in cause the seating is limited.

Ma Magoo's is tucked away in one of the Fresh Pond rotaries, next to the Dunkin Donuts with the drive-thru. It's a cozy little pizza/sub shop with around 6 tables and 4 parking spots, and it's got the highest ordering counter I've ever seen. You can't see anything they're doing back there. Anyway, it's a great local business that's thriving (they recently put up a new awning/signage). Give them a try! The guys that work there are really friendly, and they often give our group free extra stuff when we order en masse for sporting event-watching parties. Magoo's has great chicken-finger subs, because they're overflowing with tender, breaded chicken morsels. It would be really dry and plain if not for their delicious homemade honey mustard sauce, which lubricates things very well. They sell jugs of it, and I have come close to buying them several times! Don't forget the clam strips, which are really cheap and meaty here, unlike many places that sell batter with some clam inside. A really good bargain if you like these. Their pizza is decent, and an incredible lunch special bargain. They used to do two slices and soda for $3.50 for something ridiculous like that. But I actually prefer their stuffed calzones, which are like stuffed round pizzas (folded over once). Try the steak and cheese, dipped in warm marinara souce. Mmmm.. Sorry, gotta wipe the keyboard, hang on...

I've been curious about this establishment ever since...well, since bowling nights at lanes & games in college. But I've lived around the corner for 18 months and just now, 1 week before moving back across the river, did I try it. I had a Gooch Wrap which was tomatoes, mesculean greens, balsamic vinegar, turkey, and I added mozzerella. It was very good, surprisingly, since the place seems a little dirty and rough around the edges. I also shared spicy fries with Andy, which were good, but probably run of the mill McCain (since we are in New England, none of that Ore-Ida shit, you know that stands for Oregon and Idaho, right?) french fries. Andy's steak tip sub was good, but he had difficulty finishing the massive large. Due to the size of our sandwiches, the $20 bill wasn't too bad.

The pizza is that Greekish (Pizza Hut -esque) Pan type of pizza that I used to love when I was a kid. So 5 stars if you are feeding kids. Kids love this place! But most kids are broke so be prepared to pay for them. The mozz sticks are aptly named b/c they are sticks (though I prefer pan fried blocks or wedges- it's not that kind of place :) The Greek Salad is Yum, Fresh & Really Good. This time the delivery guy came on a Vespa so I went back and gave them 4 stars. He is so friendly. The people inside are friendly too! For a pizza deli/ dinner place it is decent. You know what to expect.

I have to admit the first 20 visit here I only had the honey mustard chicken finger subs. not only are they delicious, they giamongous. So for my 21st trip, I got both chicken finger sub and pizza with sausage and mushroom. I gotta say, it wasn't bad. Needless to say I was very full for the next several days. The staff is always nice and it has limited seating and parking since most orders are for takeouts. you gotta get the chicken finger subs. it's heavenly.

These guys are like the family you like seeing. They're funny, friendly, remember you & the food is so satisfying. The boneless buffalo tenders are spicy and flavorful. We get them with broccoli. Their fries just aren't that great. Greek salad? OMYum!!! Roast beef sub, toasted just a bit... Their pizza dough is fresh-made daily & you can really tell. Great pizza!

Random location, but if you're in the area and can turn safely, check this place out. Run of the mill pizza and sandwich shop, the type of place that employs a lot of workers to put together your meal quickly. I'd give it another go if I'm passing through.

My boyfriend and I just ordered a fish and chips dinner, and an hour later we were both extremely sick!!!..I don't know if it was the fish or the batter it was fried in but be careful.....I probably won't be eating here again.

If you love subs, you'll love Ma Magoo's. All it takes is one sub to get you hooked: the Chicken Finger sub drenched in their house honey mustard. I'd recommend eating your first in-store seeing as they literally hand you the bottle of honey mustard to take to your table. Don't hold back, really pour it on there. Their other subs are delicious too, but this is their specialty, I'd say 7 out of every 10 orders are for this sub. My one suggestion is to eat Ma Magoo's in moderation. When I first tried the sub, I came back probably 5 times in the next two weeks, it was irresistible. It's since then lost its mystique, but when eaten with modest intervals, these are the best subs in town, hands down.

After the death-defying-parking one must do in the 2 sq foot parking lot, there is usually a line inside, although it's better when the BB&N kids aren't there... The food is just okay. I'm not crazy about it and wouldn't tell anybody to go there, sometimes it's just easier to get here than anywhere else. But if I have a choice, I'd go to Cheddar's. They have wraps, which are nice and sometimes the specials are worth a try. The salads leave me wanting more (of something completely different) and are generally gross.

porous, permeable, and greasy are words for spong-bob square pants or awkward pre-teens, not my pizza crust. i HATE spongy, greasy crust. the baklava tasted vaguely like what i imagine hand-sanitizer or windex would taste like. i'm not being colorful. there was a strange, chemical undertone in the flavor. very odd. exit baklava to trash. the steak sub was mushy, soggy, and totally uninspired. like that guy who used to paint pine trees on pbs. bob? no offense, but his hair was just bad, and so were his pine trees. and so was this steak sub. everyone raves about the chicken fingers and the honey mustard. yeah. they're good. but the thing is, as i sit in my office, subjected to soft-rock (soft-rock, what the hell kind of term is that) every day for 8 hours, when my food comes, it had better be good. i ordered broccoli with my sub the other day, and the sub was not good, and the broccoli was under-cooked, and it smelled like a big poot. not that broccoli ever smells great, it's just that it amplified the overall poot opinion i have about this place. so yea. no. ...you try to be healthy and you wind up with taylor swift and an office that smells like poots.

Dedicated in loving memory to Gary Feldman: The Greatest Reviewer of All Time. A legend? A charlatan? The Tightest Man Who Ever Lived? Oh yes, all this and more. Ma Magoo's is tight. WAY tight. This might be the tightest sub shop I've ever been to, or at least the tightest sub shop in Cambridge. Bob's in Medford is a bit tighter, but not by much. The Tight Girl and I came here last night for some tight subs. She had something with a ton of tight pork related products, as did I. My sausage pepper onion and cheese subs was WAY tight, but not the tightest thing I've ever had here. The steak and cheese, the steak and sausage, the steak tip, and the sausage and steak tip subs were perhaps a bit tighter. But you can't go wrong with anything here, it's all tight. Even the spicy fries - we got a large order, which contained apx. 376 fries, more than enough to satisfy our tight tight hunger, and each fry individually was way tight. I'm glad that Ma Magoo's is a bit inconvenient for me to get to on a regular basis. Location, between two rotaries near Fresh Pond, is definitely NOT tight. But maybe tight for my waistline, which will thus stay nice and tight, because if I came here every day, everythng would start getting loose, except maybe my pants, which would be tight, but in a most decidedly untight fashion. Remember: Ma Magoo's: TIGHT!

Ma Magoo's Buffalo Chicken sub might be my favorite food in the world. The pieces of chicken are plump and delicious, the buffalo sauce mixed with their blue cheese is great, and best of all they are GIGANTIC. You won't find a bigger sandwich anywhere else, even as good as they are I always end up turning the large into two meals. None of the menu items are expensive at all, and my friends and family all love the pizza and other menu items. I moved out to Seattle recently, but whenever I come home to visit, Ma Magoo's is the first place I go to eat.

I'm new to Boston, but a friend grew up nearby in Belmont. "I'm gonna take you to Ma Magoo's," he said. "It's incredible." Now I was under the impression that a sandwich shop was a sandwich shop, and if you'd seen one, you'd seem 'em all, with minor variations. And I was wrong. Ma Magoo's is excellent. I don't have a car but I've actually taken the T out to Alewife and walked because I was craving it so bad. I personally recommend the Buffalo Chicken Sub. As said before, the chicken is great and the buffalo sauce/bleu cheese mixes perfectly for that great buffalo taste. Make sure you eat it all, though, because it doesn't keep very well. You'll be shocked if you try to eat leftovers the next day.

  • Erik C.

I've been eating food from here for a long time. It used to be more convenient for me to order from here because I lived in Belmont, now that I'm in Waltham, its a hike. But it's worth it. They have delicious chicken. The honey mustard is unmatched. The hot sauce with bleu cheese is great on a small side of chicken fingers. If you get a sub with chicken fingers and honey mustard, I would ask for extra honey mustard, because without it, the sub can be dry. It may only be me or temporary, but it seems like the chicken has been different lately (like not as good as before). I'll have to ask the next time I'm there... The pizza was pretty good too. The prices are good, water bottles are only a buck. Closes at 9 PM sharp. Parking can be tedious, but if you call in your order on your way there, you can be in and out. Make sure you stop at Whole Foods (around the corner) to pick up some fresh fruit before you place your order.

  • Phil D.

I also get the same thing every time--the clam roll. I don't know where they get their clams, but they are delicious and this sub is a steal for like $6. I can't even finish a large, have to go for the medium. I tried the clam roll at Summer Shack: it was twice the price, not nearly as good, and small. The only other thing I've ever had (once) is the Italian sub, which is the best in that area.

    (4)
  • L J.

Best Italian subs ever. Italian, everything on it, hots, no hots. The subs are enormous. The meals are massive. I have never been disappointed. Genuinely friendly service, these guys have been a long standing establishment that has weathered the changes to Fresh Pond like pros. Thicker greek style pizza is a nice change up to the regular pizza joints in the area, and amen to that. Greasy, yes, but ridiculously delicious.

I recently fell in love with the honey mustard chicken finger subs. For a while I only ordered delivery, but recently I've been eating there. There are a few complaints I have about Ma's. Cleanliness: they need to clean the dining area Sanitation: Time and time again I see people preparing food without wearing gloves....gross. Politeness: The staff are frequently impolite and I've heard them being rude to a foreign family that didn't understand English well(if at all). Pro: Delivery is always prompt....always.

I refused to eat at this place just cause it was next to the hideaway, and the hideaway meant nothing good, I should write a review about the hideaway and fighting on a pool table, but enough rambling lets get down to the honey mustard. Good lord is it blessed, they make it there and sell it in a tub if you want more. The best sub there is a chicken finger sub with cheese lettuce and extra mustard from the lord. A very distant runner up is the chicken stir fry wrap. Honey mustard word

This place is a hidden gem. It's tucked away in Fresh Pond between two rotaries but it's well worth traveling around the rotaries to get to it. They also have delivery. This is a take out place for sure but they are happy to have you sit down at their tables. I recommend their wraps and their homemade chicken finger subs, delicious and fresh!! They are very friendly as well, much more than you would expect for a fast food pizza place though their menu is great and includes seafood!

  • Sherrie G.

After moving to Cambridge, I found out this was probably the closest pizza joint to my new place. Thankfully, it's pretty good. Not ground breaking but pretty good and cheap. I'd recommend their Chicken Alfredo Calzone in the large size for parties. That monster could feed a small village. Stay away form their Special pizza unless you have an oven. It's decent but they overload it with toppings and sometimes it doesn't cook all the way through. Delivery can take a while just to warn you but I found most places in this area will tell you 30-40 minutes and take over an hour. Save yourself some trouble and pick it up.

I went there once and got the honey mustard chicken finger sub and it was HUGE and DELICIOSO, I'd def try other things.

Honey mustard chicken finger sub is the star of course, but steak and cheese sandwiches are great too. That the pizza is pretty decent puts this to five stars. Order a regular, not a large, sandwich unless you're extraordinarily hungry.

  • Sam M.

Service has gone down hill. Very disorganized with take out orders no process has led to long waits and cold food. (Ie: food sat there even though I was there for 10+ mins waiting for them to call my name) still good food, but need to pick up their game.

Decent pizza place, I worked nearby and I there a lot, I explored the menu, from pizza to subs to pasta, it was nothing special, but it was a solid stop if your hungry.

Haha.

You might feel guilty about it later but live in the moment and make yourself happy.

always great food and service.. One caveat (coming from a big man and professional eater) dont order a large sub unless you have a friend, or want half for lunch and half for dinner :-)

The chicken finger sub with honey mustard is out of this world! Great cheese pizza too. I've actually never been there. I've only gotten take out, and I wasn't the one who picked it up, so I can't comment on the appearance. However I could eat the chicken finger sub for every meal forever! No joke.

This place is a great cheap lunch spot. I've had the fried eggplant sandwich and chicken gyro. Both great. Reasonably priced also.

  • Bob J.

Moved to the area a few months ago and I'm glad I finally found a place like this near by. It's quick, cheap and delicious. The portions are huge so you'll have plenty of leftovers too.

Our favorite pizza. Straight up Greek style za for those that know and love the Greeks. Ask them for gyro, tomato, and feta and if you are disappointed you should get your taste buds examined.

  • Josie V.

Good enough $15 pizza. Fast delivery. Nice taste. All I needed!!! 4 stars.

Random location, but if you're in the area and can turn safely, check this place out. Run of the mill pizza and sandwich shop, the type of place that employs a lot of workers to put together your meal quickly. I'd give it another go if I'm passing through.

My boyfriend and I just ordered a fish and chips dinner, and an hour later we were both extremely sick!!!..I don't know if it was the fish or the batter it was fried in but be careful.....I probably won't be eating here again.

Friendly service. Delicious, crispy, crunchy fried clams. Monstrous sandwiches that aren't drowning in oil. Delivery service. A silly name. What's not to love?
