Clean, friendly, tons of parking, easy to find, and fresh food galore! I remember my mom taking me here as a kid, and now that I'm older, I've started going myself. I make a point to shop here for all my fruits and veggies, as they are cheap and delicious! They also provide some pretty fun events during the year.

This is a wonderful market with tons of things to discover around every corner. From cool air terrariums to craft beer and awesome baked goods I just couldn't stopping picking things up and running to the hubs. Markets are like toy stores for us but this one had the added benefit of actually having cool non-food stuffs too!

Atkins Farm is another gem located in the Pioneer Valley! This store started as a small operation, and now is a powerhouse! They have a great selection of fresh fruits and veggies, and their bakery is incredible. They have a great selection of baked goods which include some sugar free options. On top of that Atkins Farm is known for their cider donuts which you can't miss if you are in the area. You have to stop in and get at least a half dozen of these puppies! On top of that the store has incredible meat, fish, deli and prepared foods sections. The staff is always extremely polite, and they have great seating areas both inside and out. This is a great place to pick up groceries, or spend the afternoon talking with friends over a coffee and some baked goods!

How often do you close your eyes and pretend you're Dorothy, but instead of dreaming of going to Kansas, you dream of going back to Atkins Farms? Although I don't actually have enough of an imagination to pretend I'm Dorothy, or to imagine myself somewhere I am physically not, I do have longing memories of Atkins Farms. This cute little farm and store is located right near Hampshire College, and it's always full of area residents and college students, and visitors whose nostalgia for better, younger days, have them coming back for more. I remember trying my first apple cider doughnut here, before I was gluten-free, many moons ago. I was a freshman in college and cider doughnuts were everywhere. Atkins Farms doughnuts were famous for their addictive quality, their texture, and, well, their taste. I subsequently tried to buy gluten free (prepackaged by Kinnikinnick) apple cider doughnuts, which were in the freezer at this very store, and I was grossly disappointed by them. Oh, Atkins Farms, your competition is non-existent. Atkins Farms has many gluten-free options, mostly prepackaged, but good enough for someone who could find no options at local big box stores. Things have certainly changed for the better in the region, but Atkins Farms still maintains its country charm, while also managing to cater to crazy groups of people who are on crazy fad diets or health crazes.

Atkins is pretty much the happiest place on earth when it comes to farm markets. It has everything you want and more. Apple cider doughnuts are their claim to fame and for good reason. They are absolutely delicious and will give you that warm fuzzy nostalgic feeling inside every time. Last time I was there they sold candles with the scent of their doughnuts( yes I definitely bought one). Their produce and meat sections provide great quality products and a fresh selection. The bakery and deli sections are unbeatable. Many of the prepackaged snack foods they carry I have a hard time finding anywhere else. The fudge is a favorite of my boyfriend. It is rich and will add 5 pounds to you just for looking at it. The seating areas are great if you want to sit and have a leisurely lunch. It's worth the trip.

We got our wedding cake from the Atkins Bakery and were so pleased with the results. The bakery hours were a little tight because we traveled from Boston. Once we were finally able to meet with the cake designer it was such a simple process. She listened to our requests and created a simple, elegant, and delicious wedding cake! Our flavors were marbleized chocolate and white cake because they were so moist. The frosting was very rich on the tasting cupcakes, but just right for a slice of wedding cake. :-) A note about the florist- we tried getting information from the florist thinking it would be easy to do cake and flowers with the same vendor. Communication was very poor and the brochure we found in the store was very outdated.

I love you, Atkins. While I loved Amherst, you are more of a draw than any reunion could possibly be (my reaction to your parking lot was more emotional than my response to any views of Memorial Hill) . I miss wandering around your isles and your friendly cashiers and your farm fresh food and, of course, your cider donuts. I miss you all the time, especially when I walk into a poorly stocked "specialty food" store. Please never change :)

If you don't like their cider donuts, I don't think we could be friends. I make a special detour here frequently to buy local salad greens, scope out good produce deals and did I mention the donuts?

Amazing. They always have the cheapest produce and their butchers are so helpful when it comes to finding the right meat to make a meal. I wouldn't know what to do without Atkins!

There are so many things to like about this place. Unfortunately I'm here to share one of the few negatives. Their bakery automatically puts almond extract in all of their yellow cakes even if you do not ask for that flavor, and from what I have seen (my company orders from them a lot), they do not come with any specific "contains nuts" label. I have a nut allergy, and I've accidentally eaten their cakes multiple times before realizing that something was not right. I will not eat their cakes anymore.

I was in the 5 College system in the pioneer valley and Atkins farm was an amazing local food resource. Homemade cider doughnuts year round...need I say more? Oh and also a great deli sandwich counter/ soft serve in the summer. I love how it's all local and is a small operated store. The farmstand there is always amazing. In the fall they have amazing fall squash/ pumpkins and cider. It's really a one stop shop since they also have a bakery, deli, flower/ plant space/ as well as produce. I remember coming here a lot with my college friends to stock up our dorm fridges or to get some goods for dinner parties. It's one of those places thats so accessible it becomes kind of a town hub. Many times I went into the store and would see a friend or even a professor shopping, it's just a good local place to be. They are also super reasonably priced and I felt good supporting their business because they do everything so well. I'd much rather go to atkins than to the wholefoods. Atkins is also pretty accessible. The PVTA stops right in front. If you are driving, they recently added to their parking lot (free!) so there are plenty of spaces. Much needed because the lot can get so crowded on the weekend. If I remember correctly there are also ramps for the carts and wheelchairs. There's also an ATM next door if you need cash, even though they will take cards. I really love their merchandise-- I regret not buying a teeshirt from them last time I was there. You need to check this place out because they are super friendly. Also you need to try the CIDER DOUGHNUTS!

What a great find! Atkins is a farmstand grocer with many of the expected accompaniments of an upscale country grocer without the killer prices. They carry a nice selection of local produce, a great selection of fresh baked goods, fudge and chocolates, a great butcher shop, fresh dairy, ice cream and much more. It's an hour drive for us but one we'll be sure to make with some regularlity, with cooler in tow.

I stopped in here a few months back after not been here in years. They have an amazing market. Much more than a fruit and vegetable market. U can do your whole shopping here and even pick up a gift and an ice cream on your way out. The staff is welcoming. The layout of the store is inviting. Prices are well marked. Tons of parking in the lot. Be prepared to walk out with more than squash though.

I've loved Atkins Farms for years (having been born and raised in The 413â„¢). Having recently wandered back home for a day of relaxation, I decided to revisit Atkins and see how it's evolved over the years. Wow. What a place. It's so much busier than I recall...filled with shoppers on a Sunday afternoon. Many families outside, picking pumpkins and working at the do it yourself scarecrow activity. Really bustling place. Inside, the place didn't disappoint. The deli sandwich I had (meatloaf on sourdough with lettuce and onion) was wonderful. The time it took the get the sandwich was extended due to business, but worth the wait. Unfortunately, rude people saving seats in the eating area caused me some distress as I waited for a place to sit, but a nice couple gave up their seats to me after finishing, so that was a plus. The pastries looked wonderful, so I bought some to take home to my son. He gobbled them down quickly (sweet tooth is alive and well with that child) and begged to go sometime for more! Bought some meat out of the case...flavorful and top shelf upon cooking the next day. A couple of downsides...if one wants a drink with one's sandwich, it's readily available. But the cooler isn't all that cool...so bottled sodas aren't ice cold. I bought a bag of chestnuts that seemingly went bad overnight. While this happens occasionally to the best of markets, it's no less disappointing. Prices are no better or worse here than anywhere else. It's a nice place, really. Can't wait to go back. And my son is dying to see that bakery! Highly recommended. Be prepared for crowds on the weekends.

Tons of delicious food, pumpkins and jolly families. Definitely a must-visit in the Fall. We got some crazy good salted caramel fudge, I enjoyed a small salad from the awesome salad bar and my husband got a huge eclair that he said was amazing. We also left with a steaming bag of apple cider donuts. Protip: The Harvest Pumpkin Sam 12 pack was ridiculously reasonably priced (at least for us Boston folk). So stock up on booze while you're here!

Atkins has some major health issues, it is loaded with roaches, and has had sewage back up into the kitchen area, and still kept serving food regardless. I would not eat anything our of this place, they used to be good, but now nothing is local, and the so called "homemad" is really suspect, their are bugs, and other issues, thy don't care what they sell to people as long as they make money on it.

Writing a review of the bakery, as they recently made my wedding cake and favors. Angela in the bakery is awesome! We met her for a cake tasting and she sketched a design for the cake. We ended up going with a two-tier chocolate cake and a cupcake buffet of red velvet, lemon, golden, and carrot cake. We also ordered the famous cider donuts as our wedding favors. Everything was amazing! The cake and cupcakes looked exactly as we had wanted them to and the cider donuts were a huge hit. I was afraid that with all the desserts (as our caterer was also providing eclairs, cannoli, and chocolate covered strawberries) that people wouldn't be into the donuts, especially since it was mostly out-of-towners. WRONG! There was fierce competition for donuts left unattended, with my uncle Jack walking away with at least a half-dozen (including mine and my husbands). Literally, at the end of the night, there was nothing left. Not a single cupcake or donut in sight. We ordered some pastry boxes online so people could bring sweets home and they took advantage of it. I wouldn't have wanted it any other way.

Sweet baby Jesus, this is the sort of place that warrants a 5 star review. EVERY.single.thing that I have ever gotten from here has been phenomenal! I haven't had the apple cider donuts, and obviously I am missing out, so I will have to get these at some point. Some of my favorites include the made-to-order deli sandwiches, pistachio fudge, salad bar pasta salad, clam chowder that comes with a delightful little roll, and the amazing craft beer section. I've even found Christmas presents in their cute little back room. You cannot go wrong with Atkins!

A great market with lots of fresh produce but those cider donuts are the best hands down. We stopped in my home town on the book tour and grabbed four bags, they were gone a day later. This place is worth the detour from anywhere to try what are the best cider donuts in the world hands down.

I like donuts, don't love them though. Most of the time, just the thought that they stay in your system for however many of weeks kind of grosses me out. So I try to eat them only once in a while...BUT Atkins cider donuts? Those I love. Honestly, I think its the only thing I buy at Atkins...I bought a couple cookies once and maybe a pie? But the donuts are where its at. If I'm in the area, I'm bound to walk out with a half dozen donuts in my hand. They are spiced but not overly powering with nutmeg or cinnamon. They sell them with/without cinnamon sugar. Both are good to me, the sugarless one are less messy though. :) Although they are good just to eat on their own, I love to pop em in the oven so that the heat gives them a crispy outer layer whilst still keeping the inside moist. I've never grocery shopped here, but they sell plenty of fruits/veggies and even have a deli for sandwiches. They also sell meat/fish and have a cheese selection. I do miss these donuts in Hawaii!

Been a fan of Atkins for years and have always enjoyed their fresh produce, deli, sushi, seafood, and bakery. Although pricey the prepared sandwich section is great too. Nice selection of microbrews. A lot of local and natural items too. Service is usually real good. Only complaint is it's pricey.

Cidar donuts. I used to talk across the corn field from hampshire to atkins on a weekly (daily?) basis in the winter for these. If you know the winters in the corn fields, you know it's like, what, twenty thousand degrees below zero? WORTH IT. Apple butter, too. Blueberry bread. Mmm.

  • Matt W.

I've watched Atkins evolve over the years from an actual fruit farm stand to the mini-grocery kingdom it is today, fueled in part by the spread of residential development south of Hampshire and now reaching its apotheosis with the double-traffic circle required to maintain traffic around Atkins. I can't say it's a full-service market, and of course there's a gigantic Whole Foods not too far away, so for what it is as a medium-sized market serving a population that doesn't want to stray too far away, it's a decent store if a somewhat slow-acting harbinger of the doom of encroaching development. Independent, yes; useful now, surely; good in the long run? TBD. Well, of course I will always go back for the donuts, naturally. Doughnuts. Real douuuuuggghnuts. So I will be part of the problem here, no doubt.

I love this place. A fantastic selection of fruits, veggies -- very large organic selection. Their bakery is one of the best around. A really nice atmosphere, very clean and all around just a great shopping experience. Oh...their deli is amazing too! Highly recommend.

Drove here with a friend for the first time this week. The ambience was nice and the staff were friendly. A great alternative to the grocery stores nearby. The fudge and pineapple upside down cake tasted fantastic. Will definitely come back soon!

In my quest to make it to as many places as I can while out this way I was able to make it to Atkins Farm. I think having lived in NYC for so many yrs I got spoiled with all the variety and am perhaps a bit jaded as I may not be as easy to impress as someone who was never exposed to a plethera of fresh fruit, veggies & seafood. (Don't eat meat) Atkins Farm is not what I conjured up in my wild vivid imagination. If you are new or visiting the area know this, Atkins Farm isn't some "country farm stand" that sells home baked goods and local produce. It is a finely run engine that is perhaps tailored after Whole Foods. For those of you on student budgets without the folks paying ... it's costly. Not my circumstance but thought I'd mention it. I didn't buy any produce because I am happy getting my organic produce where I shop. I did not see any signs referring to any of the produce being locally grown nor did I see many signs referring to produce being organic (perhaps your eyes will be better than mine and I may be corrected). They have a large selection of baked goods but they didn't seem visually appealing to me nor did anything inspire me to want to bite into it which is like a vampire not wanting to drink your blood (fyi: I'm a sugar addict) ... Hmmm why? I think it's because the baked goods looked somewhat ordinary nothing about them seemed any different than ones from a chain food grocery store (not the Whole Foods variety). I even sampled the apple cider donut someone mentioned and frankly didn't like it. The donut was chewy and dry. On an up note, the sandwich and deli area had many interesting selections, a host of original combinations that appealed to me. The sandwiches fresh and reasonably priced too and the sides looked fantastic. They had orange custard, a maple glaze custard and an apple cider bread pudding (in the deli area). I got an egg salad sandwich and a sampeling of each of the mentioned custards to take home for dinner. ALL de'lish! If you are a carnivore, the meat area was oozing with the red stuff, like in a butcher shop. The seafood area too had some nice selections thankfully nothing oozing red. I got Sea Scallops to cook up for lunch tomorrow. The one thing I did notice was a little to limited frozen food area.

People have said it before, but I'll say it again: cider donuts & apple cider! You can't beat it. This would be a great combination for coffee hour after church. Personally, I have used these snacks when I meet with students - they love it! I would also like to mention that before returning home to Connecticut, I grabbed 4 jars of "Atkins Pure Wildflower Honey" produced right in Amherst, MA. One 8 oz. jar cost $4.59 - great for Christmas gifts!

  • Abby H.

Produce is hit or miss on the freshness scale but the prices are very reasonable. The meat and fish carries quality products but the prices are a little steep for my budget. They always give me more than I ask for by at least .15lb which is no big deal but after a while it's a little irritating. I was charged the wrong price (much more expensive) for the meat I bought last time because the butcher put the wrong label on my package. Many of the people at checkout are nice but a few are downright surly and I don't understand why they are so militant about not letting you put your basket on the counter when the space to unload your groceries is only about the same size as the basket. Then there's no place to put the basket and sometimes they offer to take it from me and sometimes they just let me flounder around looking for a place to put it that won't offend them. And on top of that I often have to bag my own groceries which I don't mind doing at all but between that and everything else I can't pay attention to what's being rung up or get my money ready. The baked goods are beautiful but the quality of the ingredients are not on par with other local bakeries. But you can't go wrong with their cider donuts. Or their cider for their matter.

I've got a lot of good things to say about Atkins, but I'll limit it to what I see as most important. The grocery selection is good, but limited to mostly local produce with limited frozen. If you are used to Stoppie, you might not easily transition to Atkins. This place reminds me of the Windfall Market in Falmouth, MA. The bakery is insanely good, the confectioner is awesome, and the deli has really high quality meats for pretty reasonable prices with regular sales. My favorite part of Atkins is the sandwich counter over at the deli, you can get half sandwiches, with a variety of different side choices for pretty reasonable prices. During the summer, the outside window is open where they have soft-serve ice cream and $1 natural casing hot dogs.

Great place for local foods. The Atkins Farms brand maple syrup is worth driving here for alone. If you decide to stop here and eat, they have good food at the deli counter, but when I went there was no place to sit and eat.

We came here several years ago and bought our favorite Habanero Salsa (Thank you Uncle Mike!!!!) The produce here is amazingly beautiful. But once again, the service leaves so much to be desired. I'm a people person and these people just don't do it for me. The parking lot is pretty decent and the location is easy to find.

I stop at Atkins for coffee and lunch/breakfast to go from the salad bar. Maybe not a huge bar but the hardboiled eggs are great, so is the locally grown wheat berry salad. The price is great and I can get out of there with a small container packed with food and a large coffee for under $5. And the coffee is really good. Love the bran muffins and the mini strawberry filled chocolate whoopie pies are yummy. I love the small store feel. Go to Atkins if you know what's good for you!! Oh and really clean bathrooms too.

This is an adorable little country market in South Amherst and up until recently I didn't believe all the hype that I've heard about it. The one thing that I've been told over and over and over again since I've moved up here is that their apple cider donuts are really good, me personally I don't really care for cake donuts, but I was soon converted to the cake side. I did some groceries here and this is defiantly a place I would love to come back to, not only was the selection of produce really unique to this area, in terms of what's available seasonally, they all are a supporter of all local farmers (or at least that's what I've been told). Since its the end of the summer, atkins has a lot of corn for sale so I could a couple of ears. This sounds weird to say but it was the best corn I have ever eaten and at a dozen for 5 I'm dangerously tempted to go back and get too many. Back to the donuts! They were perfect, well worth any drive in the western area, not to cakey, not at all dry, not to appely, not too cinnamony. Perfection in a ring, I haven't tried the apple cider or any of the other apple cinnamon products (I saw apple cinnamon pancake/waffle mix..uh yum?!) but I would love to try those the next time I'm there. This place always has a unique selection and I have yet to be dissappointed by anything that I've had from this grocery store. The only reason I'm giving it a 4 instead of a 5 is because I've only been there a few times and I want to give this relationship some more time before I commit to a 5 star review.

It took me a long time to notice, but they have a deli area. I only ever get one thing, really, but it's a magical and marvelous thing- I get their shepherd's pie. It's fantastic. It's a bit pricey but the recipe is worth it. I had some just today and I kid you not, it was the best anything with mashed potatoes in it that I've ever put in my mouth. When I say that I want you to understand that I am a mashed potatoes-based dishes fiend. The addition of the Kringle Candle cider donut scent is very nice, as it's my favorite candle scent at present. The candles are ridiculously pricey, but that's Kringle's fault. I've also become fond of their ranch veggie dip. I like to grab a tub and a bag of baby carrots. It's exceptionally good. My only complaint is that I wish they would get their register section hashed out a bit. Checkout always takes close to ten minutes. I'm a big fan of self-checkout, but I doubt I'll be seeing that around here anytime soon. That's fine. I'll wait.

Must try the Cider Donuts. We have been going there since I was a little kid. Now when I travel back to visit the family or they come visit - must get the cider donuts. The shop has grown so much but they have done everything right. You can get sandwiches to produce there. No complaints. Although I can't imagine it during the holidays. Must be packed with all the shoppers getting all the great sweets.

One of the most beautiful, most diverse markets I have ever been to. From the fresh, home made daily pastries, pies, and cider donuts, to the amazing ice cream produced by local dairy cows, Atkins Farms is fiercely committed to promoting local artisans and local farmers. Unique organic produce (like currants, gosseberries, fiddle heads), maple syrup, honey, candies, preserves, and pastas are also featured. It was overwhelming and exciting to find so many local treasures in one store. They also have local grass fed beef, free range poultry, and locally caught fish. Yes, there is no question that you will pay a premium price for these goods- but there are few things that I would consider worth more money than local, natural, healthy foods and Atkins Farms has a plethora. Another great aspect to their marketplace is the cafe with indoor and outdoor seating options, featuring freshly made coffee and tea beverages accented by local dairy and sweeteners. Starbucks has NOTHING on a cafe au lait made with milk from cows you can literally see from across the street. Outside of the main market there is a walk-up ice cream counter featuring all the usuals and some truly amazing concoctions (you MUST try the maple bacon ice cream!) and also a shop with fully prepared entrees like salmon with wild rice, penne alfredo, country style bbq pork chops, etc. You can buy by the pound as you would a traditional deli, or pick up pre-portioned to-go containers. This market is located a hop, skip, and a jump away from Hampshire College and has become my go-to spot for a quick snack, a cup of coffee, or a few specialty items for a romantic dinner! I truly cannot say how fantastic this market really is, unless you see it for yourself!

Atkin, Atkins ... cider donuts, cider donuts. I just got off my high from the cider donuts I brought back yesterday during my trip to the happy valley. It was no coincidence that I convinced my companions to go to the Eric Carle Museum as our last stop before heading back to Boston (how convenient ... I can pick up my cider donuts and route 9 shortcut is right there). I hate to say it, but I love it more than my (beloved) Russo's in Watertown. They also have all these candies (can you say marzipan shaped like ladybugs?) from abroad that you want to pick-up for stocking stuffers .... or to eat on the car ride back home. Of course, there is that whole organic farm thing. Did I mention the cider donuts?

The cider donuts alone are worth a trip to Atkins Farms. That being said, this grocery store has an excellent produce section and the best place to find gluten-free products.

Oh Atkins Farm. You walk in and there's the bakery. Good luck getting out of there without drooling on yourself. Then there's the deli (good sandwiches and you can eat in the store), the meat and fish counter, and then the veggies. Everything is good. They usually have tuna steaks that look absolutely beautiful but I am poor and besides, my cooking wouldn't do them justice. There was a semester in college when I would buy local milk at Atkins in glass bottles, because each one you return is a dollar off the next. It ended up being a decent deal. So buy a pie or three, maybe some eclairs, and remember that apple cider donuts = fall in western mass, so get those too.

First off let me say Atkins has been a staple throughout my life. From shopping for groceries, grabbing a quick ice cream in the summer, even selling some of my mothers glassware in their local artist display. With that said my review is ONLY for the Flower Shop. I recently relocated to Los Angeles, so naturally when you want something done right you contact those businesses that had provided you the highest quality of service in the past. When my sister(who is located in LA as well) and I were discussing where to order flowers from for my mother's birthday- Atkins was our first choice! My mother received her flowers prompt, and to the correct address-however the roses we requested were browned. My mother didn't complain since they were a Birthday present but when we received a picture of the arrangement the browning of the roses was clearly visible in the picture. My sister and I were obviously upset, dropping around $70 for the arrangement we expected to receive the highest quality of fresh flowers-hence why we ordered from a local business. My sister called Atkins and spoke with the florist who created the arrangement, she was rude and simply told my sister to bring the arrangement back in. I'm sorry but my mother had dinner arrangements made to celebrate her birthday and didn't have the time to drop them by----SERIOUSLY it's her birthday? The lack of customer service shown by this particular individual is appalling, and she is a florist aren't they supposed to be super friendly? The end result was a $20 refund after my sister emailed the Manager, but it doesn't make up for the poor treatment. I will not be using the Floral Shop at Atkins in the future due to their poor customer service. I hope this experience hasn't tainted my mothers view of Atkins Farm as a whole.

Located well south of down-town Amherst, Atkins definitely offers four and a half-star quality selection, but they lose a 1/2 star for high pricing. Yes, the famous cider doughnuts are great, even if you are ho-hum about doughnuts (having been beaten into not caring by mediocre chain store product). These doughnuts are not especially apple-y, nor overly spiced with cinnamon; they are a perfect, lightly sugar/cinnamon coated, cake doughnut. (Heating them a bit helps caramelize the sugar!) They sell bags of 1/2 dozen, which you can grab by the register where they keep them on trays, as well as throughout the store.) We bought 4 bags and handed them out that evening as gifts to visiting friends and local students we knew -- who received them as if we'd given them gold bricks. (We forgot to save a bag for ourselves! That's good and bad.) We also bought a number of other local products such as maple syrups, jams, apple butter, and more. There are whole sections of the store dedicated to this. No bargain prices here on these items -- even though they don't have the expense of trucking/shipping them great distances -- however, they are small batch, great quality and many are not to be found elsewhere necessarily. They have a selection of store-made pies but not necessarily from local or seasonal fruits. (Peach in March is certainly not going to be local.) They looked good, but we didn't buy one this round. The rest of the store is like a mid-sized, upscale supermarket, however we did not find any organic fruits or vegetables. If they were there, they were not labeled nor easily found. Hard to believe a place that's about wholesome, farm-grown product doesn't provide this very important pesticide and non-GMO alternative. It's a large enough store that you may want an hour or so there to really explore and shop. A must-stop for every tourist to the area. (They have a great website and will make up and deliver gift baskets; this is great for care packages to local students.)

One of the happiest parts of my undergraduate career. Cider donuts. Buy them. Eat them. You will thank me. An adorable, local grocery with organic fruits and vegetables locally sourced. A deli in back. A bakery up front. An ice cream window around the corner. Flowers and fresh herbs greet you as you approach the doors. But the best part? The staff. My mother called in regularly throughout my undergrad and had custom gift baskets created and sent to me. The people at Atkins will stay on the phone with you, walk around the store, and get you that exact combination of citrus fruits, other fruits, and more fruit (what, you can't take a girl out of California for 4 years and expect her not to crave proper fruit!) before transcribing a note and delivering it to her dorm room. Lovely!

Atkins Farms is a charming place to visit. It is a great place to get your groceries. You can't get everything here, but most things are available. They have a full deli with a salad bar and 5 or 6 grocery aisles with high end items. Of course they have produce and a flower shop. They have a house ware/gift section with candles and stuffed animals and some decorative items. This is the place to buy pumpkins, corn stalks, hay and gourds for your yard during Fall. Also, they have the best baked goods around....have you read about the cider doughnuts yet? Totally amazing paired with hot apple cider!

Atkins Farm is like a large Farmer's Market -- in a store. Famed for their apple cider donuts, I find them are okay -- not as moist as I like and don't taste of apple cider, surprisingly. The fruit is fine, though the vegetables are sometimes limp. Prices are moderate. They have a little cafe near the bakery, with local coffee, and a place to sit down and enjoy the goodies, which is nice. Prices are moderate. The star of their show, however, is their pies! The pie goddesses have smiled upon the pies at Atkins Farm. I've never tasted a better pie filling (3 berries: raspberry, blackberry, and blueberry), or a better crust. Heavenly!

I love Atkins for certain things. The cider donuts are probably my favorite donuts in the whole world (be sure to try the cider donut bread pudding in the deli section), the ice cream at their outdoor stand is something I crave during the summer, but I rarely buy produce there unless it's locally grown (their own or others) or I need something on my way home. The prices are reasonable, but I'd rather support local growers if I'm going to a farm stand during the summer. They do have a great selection of their own apples during the fall - Macoun's for the win!

I'm getting married early 2014 but live out of state. We we were planning to have our wedding cake made at Atkins Farms. Seeing as though they also have a floral shop and I will be in the state two weekends from now, I called to set up a consultation. The floral manager, Sue Stosz, said it was "too early to begin thinking about flowers" and told me I "couldn't possibly have a theme picked out yet." I told Susan that if she wasn't willing to help me I would have to look elsewhere. She was unabashedly rude, assumptive and wholly unprofessional. After she told me that she would not be able to help me further, I called back and asked for a manager. They forwarded me directly back to her. She then proceeded to tell me that talking to a manager "wouldn't get me anywhere", because her boss is her sister-in-law. Instead of working with a future client with who is excited about the prospect of doing thousands of dollars' worth of business with Atkins Farms, Sue Stosz has ruined my opinion, attitude and outlook toward their entire business. This unprofessionalism is unacceptable, and Sue Stosz not having to answer for this lack of customer service and basic incivility is classic nepotism at its finest. DO NOT patronize this business.

There's very little that Atkins Farms doesn't have, or doesn't do. Local produce? Check. On-site bakery? Check. Catering and wedding department? Check. Candy shop? Check. Deli? Check. Meat/fish counter? Check. Groceries? Check. Organics? Check. Dog bakery? Check. Flowers? Check. Sushi? Check. Salad bar? Check. Gift baskets? Check. Ice cream stand? Check. Pumpkin carving? Check. Scarecrow-making workshops? Check. Am I totally confident that I'm forgetting something? CHECK! Show up and eat macaroni and cheese, nigiri, lasagna, or another prepared food...shop for tea, fudge, and their famous cider donuts...stop in for a cone or a caramel apple (in season) before heading on your way. I've loved Atkins Farms since I was an undergraduate in the mid-nineties. I love the location (right near the mountains, making it a great place to go after a hike). Sit outside when the weather's fine, sit inside when you need a hot soup and sandwich. Great for a date, great for a visit with your grandma, great for a study session (though you can only spend as much time in the dining room as you have purchased food for - venue's rule), great for out-of-town guests who need to see the best parts of what this amazing agricultural valley has to offer. Or great for whoever would love to sit in the dining room and look out the window and see the birds and the mountains and feel totally awesome about the world.

Reminiscent of times past... cider donuts, bushels of fresh-picked apples and jugs of cider. What more does one need? Stopping in for a snack or a sandwich, I knew I wouldn't be leaving without an armload of the aforementioned childhood memories before I even got in the door. New England bounty of produce, honey and dairy. Homemade goodness. Fudge. Sugar-coated cider donuts. Maple sugar candies and fudge. Made to order sandwiches under $5 and an ice cream shop to top it off. Employees were all friendly and helpful as best they could, with the exception of providing some guidance as to if I should spring for a sugar-coated cider donut or plain. So I left with one of each and a jug of fresh-pressed cider to wash them down. and for the long-lasting memories I'm thankful 'cause the donuts sure weren't! (delicious as always)

Love love love Atkins Farms. It does have a boutique-y vibe to it, but the food is glorious, and is almost curated in the way it is shown on shelves, in baskets, in piles. They have a great breakfast--the donuts which none of us normally eat, but buy by the dozen at Atkins Farms and devour before we get off the site, or the egg sandwiches which they will make hot and to order. I buy maple syrup always to take home to Central New York when I visit as the price is good and they always have a dark cooking variety. I love the interesting things they have from bee related products (Manuka honey for one) to locally grown/made food that makes it easy to embrace the Pioneer Valley in one big bag! Forget going to Trader Joes or Whole Foods. They are so "wannabe" when you have the real deal like Atkins Farms to shop either to eat now or eat at home.

Atkins Farms Country Market is probably a food lovers or cooks favorite grocery store. There were a lot of fresh fruits, vegetables, baked goods, and foods. They also sell gift items as well. Since a lot of yelpers here raved about the Apple Cider donuts, my friend and I had to buy some to taste how good they are. And these donuts were wonderful! The donuts were soft on the inside and sweet on the outside. My friend and I also checked out the bakery. There were so many delicious looking pastries and cupcakes! I brought the red velvet and carrot cupcake. The two cupcakes were probably the best cupcakes that I have tried in a very long time. Both cupcakes were moist and the frosting was just right (meaning it wasn't super sweet). I would travel from NY to Amherst, MA to buy their cupcakes again. I really loved the cupcakes that I brought! I think every cupcake costs $2 each, so that's not a bad deal at all. If you are visiting Atkins Farms, buy the Apple Cider donuts and the cupcakes!

My heart sank as we walked in: too organized, professional, slick. Atkins Farms, with its little counters of bakery and chocolatiers and sushi (???) looked more like a department store than a farmstand. But as we browsed, the mister and I loosened up. The sushi stand was, of course, out of place and commercial, but the bakery items looked good and the bargain seconds were of good quality and actual bargains--the mister loved the raspberry bread/cake thing he picked up, and the batards were beautifully dark, not the vapid blonde loaves sold to people who whine when their bread doesn't stay fresh for two weeks. There were some really good bargains in the produce, and a lot of it was local, very fresh and appealing. Surprisingly, one could do all or most of their weekly shopping here, since there was even a small housewares/cleaning/etc section. Atkins still feels a bit too...upscale, I guess, catering to wealthy housewives, for me to be entirely comfortable, but it's a nice place to occasionally visit if you're in the area. Also, the apple cider donuts were heavy and doughy, the worst I've had yet.

AWESOME EVERYTHING!!!! I thoroughly enjoyed the fresh, diverse ingredients on the salad bar, bakery was divine! Impressive wine and beer selection. Lastly, the deli stole my heart with the delicious array of comfort food type salads, the veggie sandwich was perfection!!! It's an upscale market that does not disappoint. Lovely eating area outdoors, and comfortable indoor dining as well. Cannot recommend this place ENOUGH! *** the only room for improvement would be homemade salad dressings or at least something other than Ken's salad dressing*********

Couldn't have been treated better. Calling around frantically from California every single liquor store and grocery store within 30 miles of Holyoke to get someone, anyone, to deliver champagne for my best friend's 40th birthday with only one day's notice. No one would do it. No one. Until I received an email from Jen, and when I called to speak with her, she was so understanding, knew exactly what I wanted without my having to describe it in any detail, even though AT&T dropped my call 3 times during the course of our conversation. I only really knew the name of the champagne and price range I wanted, and she pulled together a fantastically perfect gift basket and had it delivered exactly as requested. On time. It was beyond perfect customer service. And I can not say enough about what that means in this day and age. Do not bother shopping anywhere else. If Atkins knows enough to keep someone like this on their staff and allow her to do whatever she needed to do to make me happy, they deserve every ounce of your business they can get.

Atkins, you are fabulous. Nothing says fall like a trip to Atkins for cider donuts and apple cider! Highlights: -Fresh produce -Local goods -Extensive bakery department -Friendly employees -Atkins maple syrup -Atkins cream soda -Everything is organized neatly -Gift shop portion of the store is adorable and homey Even though I no longer live in the area, I try to visit Atkins whenever I am in the Amherst area.

Use to be a tiny farm stand. Now basically a super market with local appeal. Prices for produce are reasonable and one of my first choices for meat and deli. Bakery is A+ but not so much for health wise. This is a huge tourist stop so watch out for the bus loads and its always packed on weekends. Ice cream shop is great too and if your a fan of cruise nights they host a pretty successful one on Mondays.

Atkins Farms received mention in a national magazine for their cider donuts, so off to Amherst I went, with two doughnut-eating compatriots in tow. There's very little not to like about the place. It's set in a beautiful part of western Massachusetts, it's touristy as heck, and it serves delicious coffee and donuts in a friendly, comfortably-crowded setting. I will admit that I don't know much about cider donuts, but I liked what I ate: good texture and nice flavor with just a hint of apple cider tang. Perhaps as I expand my cider donut horizons, I'll have a better idea of just how Atkins Farms stacks up. Until then, I recommend it highly.

YOU.......complete me in Amherst! It's been a decade since my palate was first pleased with your pies.. and its still goin' on strong! My hips thank you too! Apple pie, peach pie, peach pie, APPLE CIDER DONUTS, warm apple cider, DELISH! When you go if you go, when you go, YOU MUST GO .... get the apple orchard cake and apple crisp mixes. They're delightfully delicious!!! I wish I could take the Aitkins Farms Cafe wherever I go.. its got just the right amount of senior citizens and young-ish people to people watch while studying uh......procrastinating!

Ahhh Atkins farms, since moving out of the happy valley it is like coming home for me. That being said there are LOTS of things in the valley that seem like home. Akins is great, filled with local produce and tasty goodies. You can find local honey (good for allergy prevention) and fantastic apple cider donuts (and up until a couple of weeks ago I would have said the best apple cider donuts, but my CSA Farm managed to top Atkins!). If you are looking for baked goods on the cheap you can usually get stuff from the case discounted at the end of the day. There is also a fantastic cheese selection, a deli counter and some seafood options. In the summer months you can enjoy some of their ice cream of some of sandwiches outside at the tables they provide. There is some seating inside for those rainy or not so nice days as well. Seriously if you are in the valley stop by and visit, Atkins is good stuff and I am confident that you will find something to please everyone in your group!

Trying to drive past Atkins Farms store on a weekend is a stupid idea. Really. Cars are in line to turn towards the Notch from Bay Rd., there's a line of folks driving REALLY slow because they're looking for any possible plot of land on which to park their vehicle... Blargh. Needless to say, I never went on weekends. Weekdays, however, were king! The wooden interior of Atkins is really warm and inviting. There are non-literal acres of vegetables when you walk in, really delicious freshly made bread and various grocery items. Not your average grocery fare, either (they have that in the "shun corner" in the back of the store), but they have organic and local goods from smaller companies stocking their shelves. I'd come in here many times and grab a Virgil's and just WANDER. I think I see more people wandering in delight inside Atkins rather than shopping.

Atkins Farms is the place to be. If you're in the Pioneer Valley you have to stop here. I bought one of their frozen pies, and some pieces of their amazing fudge, and some cider donuts. I guess the cider donuts taste even better if you microwave them for 20 seconds. They have everything here: produce, a bakery, jellies, sauces, a deli, prepared foods, a salad bar. They even sell ice cream and prepared frozen meals. There's a cafe. Delicious bread.

Atkins Farm is excellent farm stand/grocery store, Yes it can get hectic and crazy here but worth the crowds to experience some of the best products . There is not an item that they do not sell to make a meal or feast complete. They have a large selection of produce and stock what ever is local and in-season. The bakery is not to be misses the products are nice looking and tasting , they make everything from fresh donuts, cakes to breads. Even a coffee set up. In the back they have beer/wine, dairy products, along with meat and seafood. Check for weekly sales and specials they do have some great deals. The atmosphere here is really nice as it is homey and country like . You will not feel like that your in grocery store. The location is next to Hampshire college in South Amherst . A must visit you will not leave with an empty basket .

Living in the Boston area certainly makes trips to Atkins difficult, an issue that is all the more noticeable come the New England autumn. The fall rolls in as I type this review, and I want nothing more than to enjoy some hot cider and cider donuts as I write it. Alas, I've yet to visit Atkins this year. Part farm stand, part specialty grocery, Atkins Farms holds on firmly to the New England charms while offering a wide selection of products. From lunch items, fresh fruit and produce (in the Autumn, the apple selection is one of the most thorough I've ever seen), Confections (great fudge), and baked goods, Atkins will cater to any and every that venture through it's doors. The aforementioned cider donuts are a signature item of Atkins, and they're a must try. To describe them is difficult - they're delicious, though, and every time I've shared them with individuals who have never been to Atkins they're always impressed. If you're a fudge junkie, they've a large selection in the store that ranges from traditional to adventurous. All are home made and richer than rich. When it comes to the things Atkins sells, you can tell quite a bit of pride and effort goes into their products. In and of itself, a visit to Atkins is an experience that goes hand and hand with a New England Autumn. Even if one is driving from halfway across the state, couple a visit to Atkins with a day at local Pumpkin Farms. Once you've had the combination of a Cider Donut and a hot mug of cider from Atkins, it will become as inseparable a part of Massachusetts autumn as the cold air and the falling leaves.

I am official jealous of all who live in Amherst now that I've visited Atkins Farms. I had FANTASTIC macaroni and cheese (filling for an entire lunch for less than four bucks!!) and this peanut-butter chocolate thing SO rich that I broke out into a sweat while eating it. Man oh man...I'd drive all the way from Newton to Amherst just for their macaroni and cheese and their bakery section!!!!

If you go here in the summer, there are some must haves.. First visit the Icecream window. You must also get their homemade donuts..especially the cider donuts a the front registers. They are to die for. Finally, every time I go back we get a Berry Pie. I hate pie, but these are the best, yummiest pies I have ever eaten..mmmm.mmm good! Atkins is the best farm in the Amherst Area!

We went by there today, and it was better than I remember from my college days. The made-to-order ham sandwich was substantial and tasty, and we sampled two of their soups: minestrone and corn chowder, both good. Great selection of items, a very fun store.

This was a bright spot in our trek to see the disappointing Eric Carle museum (see the review).. The other yelp reviewers are spot on, their cider donuts are not only yummy but quite close to the best I've had!

Two words: CIDER DONUTS. A great local grocery store packing lots of local and unusual items. This is not a standard grocery store and while it has all the staples and then some, it doesn't stock much of anything for International or ethnic cooking other than a small corner by the sushi man that has some basic Japanese goods. The produce section is average, but when Apple season comes around it becomes amazing stocking every kind of apple (many locally grown) you can think of. The bakery is wicked tasty, and the highlight of course is the afformentioned cider donuts which along with a cool glass of cider are one of life's finest pleasures. The sandwiches are pretty disappointing, I guess when I go out for sandwiches I prefer the ones that I would have trouble making at home or at that would be expensive to get all the ingredients. Here they are very simple to a fault. But you should be loading up here on cider donuts, cider, and fresh apples instead!

This place is hilarious, I had one of the gayer moments of my life here. I was in town for a wedding, and stopped by to see a friend that went to UMASS. I had this hilarious looking black Lincoln Town Car rental with Jersey plates. So what do 2 big guys do? We go for a drive in the hills smoking cigars and stop here to buy pumpkins and ice cream. Seriously, pumpkins and an ice cream cone. We also bought a head of cabbage. The reason being, they were $0.99 ea, any size, and we got one in excess of 15 pounds. I wish this place, or one similar was near where I live. Not for the gay getting ice cream and pumpkin picking aspect, but because the selection was awesome, and the prices seemed fair.

Once upon a time, I went to Hampshire College for a bit, and used to run across a field and Route 116 to get here. It really made my Saturday mornings enjoyable, and was always a much preferred alternative to the Oliver Twist style gruel they served at the dining hall. If you're ever in Amherst, it would downright crazy not to stop here. Aside from having fresh, local produce, delicious apple cider, the nicest person in the world [wo]manning the candy counter, and a hearty selection of tasty baked goods and prepared foods, Atkins Farms is also adorable. They have outdoor seating (picnic tables!) for your enjoyment, and other cute things, like a make-your-own-scarecrow workshop in the fall. I definitely miss this place!

Just one of many reasons to visit Amherst...Cider donuts are fantastic - moist, just the right balance of cinnamon and sugar coating. Great selection of produce, prepared foods (for impromptu picnics), baked goods and candy.

Farm fresh fruits and delicious desserts- Atkins! The food is uncomparably fresh and quite affordable. Most of the things are locally produced. It is a cute little farm market that is the grocery hub for most locals. Their sandwiches, tea-cakes, cookies, and cider donuts are extremely delicious! They also have a collection of beautiful flowers also quite reasonably priced. Definitely worth a visit if you are in the area!

We love Atkins! My husband and I are new to the area and came across this place while out for a drive on a weekend. I love the locally grown fresh produce - but the cider donuts really won us over!

  • Vanessa C.

oh man, I REALLY miss this place! Russo's in watertown comes close - its much the same idea, but nothing close to the scale of Atkins. everything here is divine (if not a bit pricey) but its the best pre-made food you will ever find EVAR!

  • Heather G.

A bit overpriced in some areas but this is the ultimate cute little New England fruit stand. The cider donuts are amazing and normally I don't even like donuts. Great with a delicious glass of cider. Very touristy so get there early for prime parking.

This is a great spot. I grew up in Amherst, but I had not been back for almost 30 years and I still remember Atkins Farms. It has become and amazing market and a fun spot to go shopping. Make sure to try to cider donuts and the cider is very good as well. Go have fun shopping for the wide variety of products they have. I am sure you will enjoy yourself.

When my dad and I did our college tours we stopped here for a sandwich. I think that the pickle that came with the sandwich cemented my decision to go to Mount Holyoke. I loved that pickle! Atkins is really much more famous for its apples, cider, pies, specialty items, and donuts than it is for its pickles - but I can guarantee that the pickles are top notch!

  • Q S.

Good store for lots of homemade goods. I love love love the bakery. There's so many choices! AND they're all made fresh from their own bakery! They also have a large organic selection as well. The prepared foods look delicious. So if you're ever in a rush, make sure to stop here to get a bite. Atkin's is just outside of Hampshire College on Route 116.

    (4)
  • Jenny N.

I have just one word for you: PIES. Fresh apple, pumpkin, cherry, three berry, strawberry & rhubarb pies galore! Growing up in the Pioneer Valley, Atkin's was my local pie source. Of course, there are also piles of beautiful, locally-grown fresh fruits and veggies and lovely selections of teas, cheeses, and breads. This "farm stand" is more like a cross between full service gourmet grocery store (there's a salad bar, sushi counter, bakery, deli, and even a doggie biscuit counter!) and roadside produce stand. In the fall, you can even pick apples from their own orchards. Don't forget to bring home some apple cider and fresh cider donuts--they are the yummiest fall treat! Oh, and did I neglect to mention that they also dip their own caramel/candy apples and make homemade fudge?

  • Daisy R.

Atkins Farm is cute, but it's way over-rated. The produce is often from So. America, hardly ever anything organic. The baked goods are not very refined. The prepared food is usually awful. The staff aren't very friendly or personable. The ice cream is tasteless. Like I said the main attraction of the store is the presentation, but in reality their products can't hold a candle up to Whole Foods. I know we are all into individually-owned businesses, but give the devil his due. And ever since I drove by and saw signs on their lawn to keep off because it had just been sprayed with Pesticide (do they spray their orchard too?), I won't set foot in the place.

    (2)
  • D K.

Always happy to stop at Atkins when I'm back in the area. Can't beat their cider donuts. I have yet to find any better (even the Amish cider donuts in Lancaster/Philly area). Produce and meats are good, too, albeit a little pricey. Staff is always friendly and you can often find some off-beat, tasty local food item. Just a fun place to visit for a bit of food shopping or for a quick snack (good ice cream and pastries, too!).

  • hello y.

This is the only place in the world to get a proper birthday cake. Mm mm. So good icing. The closest thing I've baked had butter, sugar, and cristco, so I'm guessing it is something like that. But mmmmm so freaking good. Best cake in the universe.

  • J. H.

Super-sized farm stand with locally grown fruits and veggies plus homemade baked goods, gourmet groceries and more. They have their own orchard where they get their apples from. Some years they offer pick-your-own apples, but not this year. We got some great Massachusetts grown peaches and cabbage there along with some fresh cider donuts. They also have an ice cream shop in the same building with lots of picnic tables on the patio where you can sit to enjoy your ice cream.

I'm obsessed with this place- I graduated from UMass last year and I miss it :( Anyways.. the produce is amazing, I loved getting zucchini/banana bread there, cider donuts are delish, caramel apples are yummy.. I could go on and on.

When I was at Hampshire, my friends and I would run across the field and then run across Route 116 (make sure you don't get run over!) and buy yummy foods here. This was a million times better than the crappola that they served at the dinning hall. Plus they had these nice ladies who manned the fudge counter.

  • Oh K.

nothing in this world matters except for Atkin's Farms apple cider donuts. They also sell bread from El Jardin bakery in Holyoke, which is wonderful ( nuestras-raices.org/Bake… ). I wouldn't recommend the Atkins homemade bread.

A haven for foodies! I shopped here when I lived in the Valley. Atkins started off as a farmstand and evolved into a high end, country grocer. There famous cider donuts are to die for, and they make regular, heavy New England style donuts that are so large that I could only eat half in one sitting. They sell plenty of fresh vegetables and fruit. in the fall, you must sample their apple offerings. They have charts telling you what each apple is best for. Atkins was the first and only place I have seen the Burgundy apple. Imagine a red apple that tastes tarter than a Granny Smith, and you have the Burgundy. I wish I could find this apple elsewhere. Condiments, meat, prepared and packaged foods, and other items tend to be pricey. They don't sell the cheap brands here. They do offer a markdown produce bin. They are well known for their gift baskets, but as a former local, no one ever gave me one. You send those to the out-of-towners. If you see scruffy clientele, those are likely Hampshire College students from across the street.
