My favorite things to eat here are the beef fajita taco salad or the Mexican skins. Sometimes, however, the fajita meat is chewy... Sometimes not. It's inconsistent so that's frustrating at times. Otherwise... I love this place.

For a Mexican place, this one has a great atmosphere and a large menu. The staff I'd friendly and prompt, and the good quality is average. I had the combination platter which gave a sampling of 3 items. The taco was the highlight, the beef enchilada was average, and the tamale was in my opinion sub par. It lacked filling and was flavorless. The decor and music is fun, next time I'd like to check out the bar as it seemed that's where the action was. Overall, it's a fun place but don't get your hopes up for anything amazing food quality wise.

Shreveport, LA. Doesn't sound like a place to find good Mexican food right? This place was fantastic. The service was excellent. I had 3 waitstaff and the place was packed. I hope they split tips. I ordered the Bestik Ranchero. The steak came out medium rare which is impossible to find in the south. The whole dish was very flavorful and there was a lot of food. I will definitely come back next time I'm in town.

Went to Nicky's off pines road . Order number 16 as I always do that is the beef and salad. It was very good fast service in and out for lunch when we ran out of chips they refilled in a timely manner. I would rate at least three stars the hot sauce needed a little help .

HH 2 for 1 margarita did me RIGHT....and I'm a margarita snob. The chicken enchiladas were impressive. The rice was awesome. The taquitos were hand rolled. The salsa comes in a carafe and hit the spot - although that might be because the margarita hit the spot first. The service was pretty darn good especially considering how slammed this place was (Friday night). Our waitress was hustling...with a smile! Live music was entertaining, but sitting under the speaker sucked.

All I can say is WOW! What a great find of a restaurant. My wife's car broke down near here several months ago and it was right next to her hotel. For months all she talked about was how amazing the quesadillas were. Well we happened to stop by again on a trip back east and she was right! The meats are cooked to perfection and are the focal point of the dish. No refrigerated and microwaved Mexican food here. Top class and among the best I've had. If you're in the area it's well worth the stop.

Amazingly rude people. My 5 year old daughter wanted her dad to take her potty bc she was too scared. The hostess saw him taking her in there and made a big deal that the womens restroom was elsewhere. He continued to take her in and the woman made a beeline to stop and tell him that was not allowed. Ofcourse, embarrassed, my daughter starts crying and we promptly walk out before our food arrives. They did nothing to stop us. Never again will we go back! Don't waste your time here unless you hate children.

This was my first time at this Nicky's..I had a strawberry margarita (frozen) and it was perfect. Then tried the shrimp cocktail..WOW! It is not like the regular red cocktail sauce. It is their own cocktail sauce that has little shrimp and onions and peppers and i dont know what all else in it, But it comes in a big goblet glass filled to the rim and then the shrimp around the edge of the goblet served with crackers. OMG! It was shrimpy smelling and was affraid to try it but made my date try it first LOL To our suprise it was FANTASTIC. I never thought to order that from a mexican place. I actually didn't even know they had that haha but will for sure get it next time I go.

I stopped here for lunch while I was driving through Shreveport and trying to find something close to the interstate that wasn't fast food, and I was pleasantly surprised! The service was snappy, the food arrived at our table quickly, and the waiters were very obliging in our quest to eat quickly and get back on the road. I was raised on Tex-Mex, so I know a good enchilada when I see one--and their chicken enchiladas were delicious. The chicken was moist and the sour cream sauce was very well-seasoned. I also tried a small bit of their chicken fajitas which were also pretty good. It seems like the style of cooking here isn't exactly the Tex-Mex I grew up on, but it was delicious all the same. I'm glad I was able to eat here instead of at one of the fast-food places that always line I-20.

Salsa tasted like spaghetti sauce, queso was awful. I could've made better with velveeta and rotel. The ground beef they put in their dishes is not good at all. I had sour cream enchiladas with chicken and it was actually pretty decent and the rice and beans were good but some people who were with me who got meals with ground beef couldn't even finish their meals because it was that bad. If it was cheaper than I might say "well you get what you pay for" but this place is way too expensive for what you pay for. 31.00 for two people. Blah. I wouldn't come back. Next time I'll just go to cracker barrel

It was mexican food, and it was ok. Nothing much to brag about or return for. I went expecting something more authentic and unique than taco bueno, and was sadly disappointed. We had a mix of different enchilada plates and a kids meal. Fortunately kids dont care because the fries looked like they had been under a warming lamp all evening. Everything about the enchiladas was mediocre. Not horrible but for the $$, i could have done better at home. The beans were bland and plain too. I would have to watch the salsa being made from vegetable delivery to table jar, to be convinced it wasnt from a 5gallon bucket of premade salsa from a restaurant supply house. The presentation was lousy too. At least give customers bowls for the salsa so were not scooping it off the side of a repurposed elementary school lunchroom plate. The margarita was spot on though. I had a frozen one. Theyre pretty strong, and pricey. My only complaints are for $10 drink, lose the styrofoam cup, and teach your waitstaff to explain options and pricing better. It wouldnt have changed my selection but was a big deal for others in the group. Our Waitress was not very attentive. Someone else pushed us for an alcohol and appetizer order as we were still seating and hadnt looked over menu very good. Another waitress brought our drinks and THEN asked if the other girl had explained the margarita options and confirmed we were ok with $10 for a double, but we had already ordered and received our margaritas.. She disappeared for 20 min, returned to take our food order, then we only saw her twice after that. At food delivery and when the check came. We prob wouldnt have wanted refills anyway since they charge for second refill on sodas according to menu.

Ate with a group of 7 adults and 5 kids. The service was good. Chips were totally stale salsa was good but real hot cheese dips were great the white one was very good a bit hot but good. I ordered just hard shell tacos and they were terrible totally soggy. My husband ordered tamales they were just okay jalapeño poppers were good a lot of cheese! We waited a good hour for our food to get to the table and was not worth the wait. Now I will say someone ordered fajitas and loved them! For me not the Mexican restaurant of choice! Yuck

I came here since we were staying at the hotel next door. We are Texan so we eat a lot of Mexican and Texmex food. The food here was mediocre at best, and unusually served with fries and salad. Wasn't bad, but I wouldn't come back. My drinks from the bar sucked. That's pretty hard to do. Not weak....just tasted awful. However, my waitress was outstanding and very attentive. So overall, it's good for its convenience but not authentic Mexican. Good service saves any dinning experience so kudos to the young lady that took care of us.

Went to lunch and ordered sour cream enchilada. It came with rice, beans and of course chips and salsa. Very good! Chips were warm and the salsa was great, just the right amount of spice. The food came to the table quickly and hot. I'd definitely recommend this place!

It's Mexican food but better than most places I have been. Very friendly waitstaff and fun atmosphere. I would defiantly go back. It's very casual but a fun place to go for some casual drinks with a group or even with just a few friends.

The margaritas will knock you back, so slow down on the intake; especially on 2-1 nights. The drawback is you get them in a Styrofoam cup. Food here is decent and level of service depends on how crowded the place gets on any given night. Lunch is a great option and you tend to get in and out relatively quickly. The chips and salsa are comped with a meal, but the salsa is a bit weak. Overall a decent place and they have several locations in the area. Worth a visit, but one of those places that is not really worth the drive though.

Had a couple margaritas and ordered the steak, chicken, and shrimp fajitas. Overall the food was great. Drinks were ok, but I was given a margarita that was room temperature, needless to say it wasn't great. The atmosphere was good, service was ok but not the best. May return if I'm in the area again.

  • Richard H.

It was OK. Nothing spectacular. Everything seemed to be from a can except the meat. Had the enchiladas. They were middle of the road. The place is pretty dusty as well, dust on all of the flags hanging around the dining area, puts you off. Not bad, but not good.

  • Jeff O.

In the area for work and stopped here for lunch. I had the fajita tacos, they were ok nothing to write home about. Service was friendly enough and fast. Maybe I just ordered the wrong thing because it was pretty full at lunch.

Driving from New Orleans and ran into this place. Looks a little run down in the outside but when u walk inside it is nice. Food is great and the salsa is amazing. Had the fried burrito and it was awesome. Wish this place excisted in my hometown. I love this place.

Worst service ever. While he was supposedly taking our order he was more focused on his buddies a few tables back. The food had no flavor.

Excellent. $1 superb frozen margaritas, very tasty food, great service Great service, constant water, drink and chip fillups. management is awesome. MUCH MUCH better than EL JARRITOs in Ruston which SUCKED badly Every but of my food was eaten at NICKYS. I also loved the environment. It was PACKED......I couldnt believe food was so good and costed so little

On my most recent trip to Nicky's I found they have raised their prices and the quality of the food is not what it once was. Very disappointed,

We came here based solely on location and Yelp. Ended up being a good choice. Margarita was on point. Would give it 5 stars but our waitress was a little slow. FYI...Dont drink the water. ;-) LOL!

The salsa is all you can eat in wine Carafes. Classic Louisiana- crawfish enchiladas were pretty good. Don't be fooled by the stuffed jalapeño wrapped with bacon, that sucker is so hot it will give you the hiccups. Save room for the Sopapillias for dessert. They come four to an order sprinkled with cinnamon and sugar with plenty of honey to sink them onto your belly.

My family and i go through Shreveport many times when we come from seeing family in Georgia and try to get back to Texas. One time we stopped here, again, and craved Mexican food and eventually found this place. We loved it. Great and friendly service enlightened us from our long day of driving, and the chips and salsa were very good. The sauce had a little spice to it but it only made it better. I got the tacos al carbon, and it was delicious. The chicken was sauced and wasn't runny nor too greasy. I recommend you ask for a side of bell peppers and onions with the tacos. We come back here every time we pass through Shreveport now and still love their Mexican food. Would recommend to anyone passing through Shreveport.

Just had the Carne Asada and it was excellent. I was alone, so I sat at the bar, had a top-shelf Marg and really enjoyed myself. Next time in Shreveport will be back for sure.

Arriving shortly after noon on a Sunday, I had skipped breakfast and was hungry for some Huevos Rancheros. It wasn't on the menu, but the manager inquired the kitchen staff, who obliged to prepare me a special plate. Instant thumbs-up! On top of that, the platter arrived quickly, with the manager offering up some fresh flour tortillas. This version of the dish came with three small fried corn tortillas with fried egg on each, covered in a picante sauce and served with rice and refried beans. The manager (I sat at the empty bar - the place was jumpin' with after-church folks and the servers were very engaged) proffered some spicy verde sauce which was a perfect complement to the meal. Delightful preparation with a slightly smoky quality to the rice and beans that I found refreshing. Service was prompt and attentive - the margaritas were superb- the atmosphere both vibrant and serene. For going above and beyond the call of duty, Nicky's gets high marks. The delicious fare and great service seals the five-star deal.

Lively atmosphere, plenty of seating, prompt service, excellent pico de gallo and guacamole, strong margaritas. This place is a must eat when stopping through Shreveport. Food came out quickly, staff was friendly and helpful, amazingly tasty Mexican food! No complaints, glad we read the great reviews and stopped here for dinner.

I wasn't expecting much from Nicky's. It's in a Wal Mart parking lot right off the Interstate and it's Louisiana. But I was in town for business and it was very close to my hotel so I figured what the heck. First, they were very friendly. Second, their happy hour on the patio runs until 8pm during the week so you can drink on the cheap. The salsa comes in carafes and it's really fresh and tasty. I ordered the combination beef/chicken enchiladas and they were excellent! If you are passing through Shreveport this is a great place to stop for good Mexican food. Trust me, it's slim pickings in the rest of Shreveport for decent Mexican food.

Not worth a single star. Worst service ever. We were not greeted when we walked in and our server had a horrible attitude. Food was disgusting. Pretty sure the queso was the cheese sauce out of the can and was actually called "cheese sauce" on the ticket. Our entire group is sick and I barely made it home without throwing up. We will never go back.

Open late and great food. .... was passing through on a this at 10:30 pm and was looking for a decent place to eat beside fast food. This was perfect!!

I have gone to Nicky's many times and have enjoyed it.....but no more. The food was horrible and the prices outrageous. The salsa was flavorless and had huge chunks of tomatoes. The cheapest entree was $15.00 and went up from there. I would not mind paying that if the food was good. Definitely never going back. Do you self a favor and go somewhere else.

Busy. Very busy on Friday nights. Why? I have no idea. I came because it is suppose to be "authentic". I like fresh food...the food here wasn't. Lots of flavorless cheese. Salsa that's lacking substance. I don't know what the big deal is. I'm going to go to Dairy Queen to clean my mouth out. (I know ... mean)

  • Tom L.

Nicky's has really good food! Had the chicken fajitas for lunch and a couple soft shelled chicken tacos for dinner. If you're having trouble getting to this location just go through the Walmart parking lot past the Fairfield Inn and Cracker Barrel. I think they have about 10 other locations nearby around Louisiana, so that's got to say something for their business. Calling in to place a takeout order may be tough since they seem to employ authentic Mexican workers.

My studster and I were pleasantly surprised by the Yum we discovered at Nicky's. Honestly our expectations were pretty low considering the location and my husband said "even bad Mexican food is usually okay". So that was our attitude upon entering. We were greeted & seated immediately, followed by our drink orders with in a minute of sitting down, chips and salsa on the table while we looked over the delectable offerings per the menu. We looked over the menu and me being the picky, persnickity and particular eater that I am had questions for our server. She was so great. She took the time to answer my questions and even make suggestions when what I wanted wasn't on the menu. She gets 5 stars! My husband ordered a ginormous combo plate that had a chile Relleno, Tamale, Ground Beef Taco and an enchilada. I ordered two enchiladas with Verde Sauce. The Chile Relleno was a little unusual as it seemed to be stuffed with Nacho cheese.... very strange. I am accustomed to the traditional Jack cheese variety so while it wasnt gross I doubt if I would order it myself. They also offer it stuffed with beef which is also new to me but we didnt try that one. My husband said the tamale and his enchilada were delicious and I sample a little taste of the taco and the ground beef had great flavor! My pork enchiladas with verde sauce were SO GOOD!! I am a sucker for good verde sauce and boy was theirs good! Really spicy and flavorful! I forgot to mention that our food came out so quickly!!! I was shocked that it seemed like we had just ordered and BAM our plate were piping hot & on the table! There chips are SO GOOD! Fresh, warm, thin & crispy! Your not gonna chip a tooth on these EVER! I hate super hard tortilla chips!! We also tried the Mango Margarita as they are 2 for 1 every day from 4 to 6. They were DELICIOUS!! They also have Pomegranate, Guava, and a few others I can remember now. Anyway.. you cant go wrong with 2 for 1!! We will definitely be back! Good food, Great service, Great value!

Oh man is this ever good food. It's great for a quick lunch! If you go here a lot, you should check out the deals that they have on their gift certificates (sometimes). Usually you can get $40.00 in gift certificates for $30.00. Pretty nice deal if you end up using them yourself!

  • Ned P.

I went to Nicky's for dinner while in town on business. The decor was festive but typical. The free chips and salsa for the table were okay, but there was only one (mild) version of salsa instead of a mild or hot choice. I ordered pineapple tilapia and it was very good. It was sauteed very well and the flavor was excellent. The service was quick and friendly. I would recommend this restaurant highly for casual Mexican.

This is the Mexican food of my childhood! I love Nicky's, but the ONLY location I'll go to is the original on Airline Drive, on the corner of Gay Street. It's the best. And the food really is better/different here than any of the other locations. Go! Sit in Mirabelle's sections, she's the best waitress!

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
