Interesting to say the least. Can't say I was as skeptical, I tried them years back when they first opened but it has been some time. Really, I know everyone else says this, but don't let the drive up/old sonic vibe discourage, the food is what shines here. Staff have always been friendly and quick, very attentive and genuine. Sure, the overall feel of the place is off, and I agree in some cases can be off-putting, mainly as sushi is always associated with fresh/clean etc but really that's the only downside. Prices are fair, Red River roll was quite large and tasty. Shy roll was OK, nothing to write home about. Being as there is no other sushi place in Minden, it's hard to compare (I don't count buffet sushi). However, even said, their quality stacks right up there with the more standardized establishments. I think if many would be more open minded to this concept, it wouldn't be as odd, I think its neat for a sushi fix.

Ok I have to admit I was skeptical when I pulled into an old Sonic drive in. After reading the positive reviews I went ahead and placed my order. Result: exceptional dishes my spicy tuna salad was loaded with tuna and was good to the last bite. I also had spice tuna roll and it did not disappoint. I'm in town on business and plan to eat here for dinner very night.

My brother and I really wanted sushi and this was literally the only place on our 5 hour trip. When I read that it was in an old Sonic then we had to go. I'm so glad we did! I had the Hawaiian roll which was really really good. My brother had a spicy tuna and a spicy salmon (lunch special) which were also good. I eat a lot of sushi and my Hawaiian ranks up there with some of the best: fresh, wrapped well, great flavor. We were offered free gyoza too - there was no ponzu sauce but since it was free we didn't want to ask so I didn't have high hopes. Wrong- still delicious, tender, and moist. We sat outside and our server was SO GOOD I asked him if he was an owner or part owner because he had the enthusiasm and hustle you'd normally see from someone who owned the place that much care was given. If you're anywhere near this place stop in to eat or get carry out. It's a fun concept and worthy sushi.

Like everyone else I was a bit reserved about eating sushi from an old sonic, but being that I absolutely love sushi and hate having to drive 30 minutes to get it, it was inevitable that I try it. I was super glad that I did. This place has some of the best sushi I've had in north Louisiana and it is consistent. Only once have I eaten there and not been 100% satisfied and it was during a lunch rush. The meat is super fresh and so is the ginger. The owners are extremely friendly and will bring your dog treats if they happen to be in the car with you. All of the rolls are rolled very well and garnished perfectly. I am now a regular there and am disappointed that it doesn't have more business as it is probably the best hidden gem in Minden.

This was some of the best sushi I've ever had. I ordered the deep fried sweet potato sushi and it was magnificent. Service was fast and friendly. Can't wait to go back and try some other items.

The food is good. It's like a a Sushi Sonic because it is an old Sonic. They have tables outside if you don't want to eat in the car. With that said, ambiance is zero, but the food is a home run. I had the Spicy Salmon Basic Roll and Jamey had fried rice and egg rolls. The five stars is for food and Service. Sushi was tightly packed. I will come back.

First the positive. This is the best sushi in Minden. Not sure if the owners or management changed from when they were Teriyaki Express, but the attitude and quality of service is noticeably better. Everyone is making a huge effort to win your business. The sushi is reasonably priced and on par with what you would pay in Shreveport /Bossier. The sushi appears and tastes fresh. The sushi is OK, but not great. It suffers from the same issues we have when we try to make sushi at home...the rice is just not right. The rolls are not tight and the taste is below average for what you can get in this area if you are willing to drive 25 miles.

Yummy Sushi lives up to its name! First, the cons: I'm afraid this place will not last long, but it won't be lack of quality that does it in. Location will be. This is a horrible location for a sushi restaurant. For those of you unfamiliar, this is located where the old Sonic Drive In was located, next to Advanced Auto Parts. That's right, a drive-in sushi restaurant. Because people seem to be generally afraid to try new sushi places anyway, putting one in an old drive-in doesn't seem like the smartest idea. Not only that, but the business previously occupying this location was a drive-in...you guessed it...Japanese restaurant that served sushi, and was generally average on the quality meter. Most people who have tried the old establishment have no idea that this is a whole new business! I really wish they'd tried to find a better location, as I don't think they'll last long at this one. Now the pros: This place is awesome! I had the Alaskan Roll (salmon, avocado and crab). The rice was fresh, the roll was tight (I'm assuming they adjusted it after a previous Yelpers comment, because this was top notch tonight.) Everything tasted fresh and delicious. The cost was just $6.50, on par with or CHEAPER than comparable places in Shreveport. The quality was better than many Shreveport/Bossier sushi restaurants, on par with others. None in the SBC really outshine Yummy Sushi on flavor, but of course, they all outshine it on location/atmosphere. I also had a seaweed salad, which was better than most I've had in the SBC. I mean, the salad itself was pretty close in flavor, but this place actually adds a layer of sliced crab (imitation, I'm sure, but still delicious) on top. Cost of the seaweed salad was $4.99, but my wife and I always split these, so it came out to just $2.50 each. They have a kid's menu consisting of corndogs and chicken fingers, which is way more than what most sushi places offer the discerning young tastebuds of american children, but my daughter actually prefers to try the things like fried rice or udon (fried noodles.) She got the shrimp fried noodles and seemed to like it a lot. My only complaint is that they don't offer a smaller portion of the standard fair for children. I'm sure my daughter is going to want shrimp fried rice next time, but paying $8 for a plate stuffed with more than what I could eat is a waste. (The shrimp udon was $10, and she could only eat half. The other half we had to throw away.) To be fair, though, I don't know a single sushi restaurant to offer half-sized portions for children, so it's not like they are missing something others have. Add to all this super friendly service, and you've got the makings of a great sushi place in little 'ole Minden, LA. Surprising to say the least. If you love sushi, check them out. If you are a little wary of sushi (with thoughts of raw fish running through your head), then try one of their cooked sushi options. Remember people, sushi doesn't mean "raw fish." It means "vinegared rice." Sushi is rice, typically served in bowls or rolls with vegetables and meets. Some meats are raw, but several options are cooked...even battered and fried! Give 'em a shot, you'll be glad you did.

The only place to get fresh made to order sushi in Minden. The prices match the prices in Shreveport/Bossier. I found the sushi to be comparable in quality to Sushiko and Ichiban. Not the best I've ever had but as good as anything I've tried in the Shreveport/Bossier area. As with any sushi place, you can spend a little or you can spend alot. I had the Salmon Avocado Roll & Seaweed Salad and found it to be tasty and fresh.
