Mr. Roo's is a place I'm surprised I haven't reviewed before now. Luckily for them, I ordered my lunch from them so they're fresh on my mind. This place is a hidden gem in a Metry strip mall. The food is of the cafeteria variety. But if you want cheap and decent food with no thought of your waistline, then you've come to the right place. I recommend all their sandwiches- especially anything with fried chicken like their chicken parm and their chicken fried steak. Actually anything on their menu that's fried is good. I just had their onion rings and I'm waiting for the grease to settle into my hips. Now on to the cons. Don't bother with getting a salad here. Their mashed potatoes are boxed, the antithesis of any foodie. And their cookies look and taste like Chip Ahoys. Their pasta is also very mushy so unless you like overcooked spaghetti, I would avoid that. But take-out is super fast, and the servers there are pretty friendly.

The food is good. The price is reasonable. Sizable portions. Service friendly, attentive and fast. Nice atmosphere.. I recommend asking for the gravy on the side. I thought the gravy was a little on the sour side for my taste. Bathrooms are clean but they should replace the toilet seats (theyre peeling and it looks like toilet paper is stuck to them). Overall good experience. However, I do question the maturity level of the young ladies working there. While I was in the restroom, an employee walked in and yelled "Eww, someone took a dookie in here!" Which made me quite embarrassed and I actually waited a few minutes before walking out bc I wasnt sure if the whole restaurant heard her from the restroom. I had planned on giving this place 4 stars but knocked it down to 3 because of the humiliation. Will I come back ? Yes. Will I use the restroom? Only if Im about to soil my pants and I cant run to McDonalds across the street.

Seems like a very Mom and Pop type of place with their neighborhood regulars. You order at the counter and if you're dining in, they bring it to your table. On May 13th at 1:39pm I ordered a chicken caesar wrap for $6.65, the spinach wrap was extra$1.30 and I added bacon for $1 extra. The wrap tasted good but unfortunately I didn't get the bacon I paid for. I liked that they had sweet potatoes fries as an option(extra $2.75) I had an issue with the cashier handling my food. The food runner accidentally brought out my food on a plate instead of boxed to go. He brought it back to the kitchen. I waited a few more minute for it to be packed. He brought it out and left it on the counter. The cashier was out in the dinning room doing her side work. I told her, I think that's my order over there. If I hadn't said anything, who knows how long I would of waited for her to fill her sugar caddies until she realized my food was sitting right there. She got really offended that I told her my food was there, walked back with an attitude and was sour as she bagged it up. I had given her a $1 tip before experiencing her nasty attitude. What a waste of a DOLLAR! I would of given 3 maybe 4 stars if I hadn't had such an experience and felt cheated for what I paid for. This may have been an isolated incident, I don't know. This was my first and last time as a customer. I have no desire to ever go back there. There's so many other places in the vicinity that can serve a simple chicken Caesar wrap with out the attitude. I only tried it out because it was steps away. I hope the owner or management addresses the weakness in their customer service for the other customers that choose to patron their business.

I'm almost considering writing nothing at all as I am able to walk in at any time during the lunch hour (12-1) and have no problem ordering exactly what I want, and reasonably expect to get my freshly cooked meal within 10 minutes of my order. The place is clean, the prices are reasonable, the portions are more than satisfactory (you can order large or small po-boys), and the meal options are plentiful with many NOLA staples. I love this place. Within walking distance of my Metry office building. I've had the grilled shrimp poboy which I rank very high, and I've had the turkey poboy which was better than adequate, and, of course, they use the proper po-boy french bread from Leidenheimer Baking Company.

Took 45 minutes for grilled chicken salad. Good salad but need a long lunch hour. This was after the lunch rush. Very disappointing

I'm really not sure why this place doesn't have more reviews! It's a nice little family-owned poboy shop. I judge a poboy place by the quality of their roast beef poboys, and the ones you get here are DELICIOUS. A bit messy, yeah, but absolutely mouthwatering. The lunchtime rush can get a bit hectic so I'd advise getting there early or calling in your order beforehand!

This is a good place for a quick and easy lunch in a typical Metry strip mall (I really love those strip malls...NOT). They have a good selection of appetizers, sides, salads, sandwiches, wraps, entrees, and desserts. I like their po boys, gumbo, and some of their seafood and Italian entrees. The really weak point here is the burger that I would probably never get again. Two really big negatives and pet peeves I have about this place are that: 1) They only have mustard in the stupid little packets so if I'm not getting it to go they should have a squirt bottle of it like they do for the ketchup so I don't have to deal with the stupid little packets! 2) They use "fountain" tea for the "fresh brewed" tea and that stuff is disgusting! I just don't really trust anyplace that won't take the time to brew their own tea! One really nice aspect of this place is that it opens at 10:30am so if you need to pick up some food earlier then you don't have to wait til 11am like most places. Most of the prices seem to be a good value and they also have a catering menu which seems to be fairly priced as well.

I work near this place and have ordered a few times. I usually get the fried shrimp and oyster plate which I have always enjoyed. I usually sub the fries for potatoe salad, which is good. I ordered the grilled shrimp salad last time, it was a basic iceburg base. The prices are very reasonable and everything is usually fixed in under 10 minutes. Will try the club sandwich next time.

When visiting New Orleans for the first time in our week of house hunting, we found mr. roos, a small place run by its owner and the best french bread in a poboy. After 8 months living here I still think the same.

I had lunch here today for the very first time. There was no wait when entering the establishment and the lady taking the orders was very friendly. The menu is very extensive and has some amazing dishes. I had the club sandwich and I wish I would have ordered more than one it was so good! My boyfriend has the catfish, normally I wouldnt eat catfish but I just had to try some of his. It was delicious! I am definatly a fan! They have free refills and the staff checks on you from time to time. Everyone that I encountered there today was very friendly and polite!

I have to say, I think this is the best fried shrimp po-boy in town. I've tried a lot of other places but I keep coming back here. The French bread is fantastic and the toppings are always fresh. Fry batter is yummy, love this place!

Stopped by with the wife one day. She had one of those discount certificates, and they honored it with no problem. I had the Mr. Roo's special and she had a roast beef. Good portion sizes, but slightly high priced for lunch po-boys. Spend about $25 for two.
