Austin's is excellent!! My first visit was years ago for girls night with my mom and sister; we pampered ourselves then dressed up for a nice dinner. I looked up restaurants all day and landed on this one and we were all so thankful I did. We had one of the best meals of our lives! We had to bring back my dad and our fiance's and have since revisited many times and recommended it to countless others. The restaurant is beautiful and romantic. White table cloths, dinner jackets, smooth jazz played on the piano, candle lighting, an elegant abmiance. Reservations are recommended. This place is busy, and well worth the business and the wait! Top notch service and fine cuisine! It is pricey but worth every penny! The caprese salad is made with fresh water buffalo mozzarella that they make fresh daily in house--it melts in your mouth! The fried lobster tail is an appetizer that is usually on special on the weekends--be sure not to pass it up if it's on special during your visit. Succulent lobster tail meat is lightly battered and fried to perfection, topped with a creole remoulade sauce and crabmeat. Everyone is adament that you can't get a better Filet anywhere! (I'm a vegetarian--who eats seafood, so I can't personally vouch for it but it is definitely a hit with everyone else!) The stuffled lobster is delicious as well as all of the seafood entrees--LA Redfish, Pecan Crusted Trout, Grilled Drum, Seafood Stuffed Redfish, Trout Amandine, Sesame Crusted Tuna, Grilled BBQ Glazed Salmon, and the best crabmeat au gratin you'll ever try--so rich and savory and pure gluton--it's heavenly! If you can manage to make it to dessert, they do the old fashioned selection by bringing them all out on a large tray and letting you pick one. They all look completely divine. The cheesecake and the creme brulee are both sinful and amazing. Definitely one of our absolute favorites ever!

Heard about Austin's from a local radio food critic and tried it on a whim. Was I ever surprised. Fantastic. Service was great, food came out on time and the food was excellent. I had the Osso Bucco and my girlfriend had a steak. Exceptional wine list and great service. Will definitely be back.....soon!

Our Client brought us here for dinner. The atmosphere was nice and cozy. The food was unbelievable. We started with the Sweet and Sour Calamari. It was nice and fresh with fantastic flavor. This is a must order. I had the New Orleans Pasta, the waiter said to get it with Angle Hair pasta instead of the Penna. I am glad I listened to him. This is one of the best Seafood dishes that I have ever had, creamy fantastic flavor. The dish had a lot of seafood in it. The serving was big and well presented. My wife had the Pecan crusted Trout. I have never seen a piece of trout that big. She said that it was fabulous. It was nice and moist with fantastic flavor. This was a remember-able and remarkable meal.

Great seafood restaurant hidden in Metairie. The owner has a couple of other places, this being the most upscale. Great bacon wrapped scallops the last time I was there, but great food every time I make it back home.

About a week ago, I logged into Yelp and researched Austin's Restaurant and it's menu. Everything looked amazing, and I just couldn't wait to try one of their steaks. So the wedding shower comes along (eyes roll) I was ready to eat!! Unfortunately, I didn't get to try their famous steaks, since there was a buffet provided, but I am not complaining. IT WAS SO DELICIOUS! I am telling yall, their crab cakes are insanely good. So good, it should be illegal. Salad was super fresh, I didn't get to try their bread pudding but from what my mom said, it was pretty good. Seriously, just go there. You won't be disappointed.

A nice steakhouse tucked away in a strip mall. Decor is very nice as is the ambiance. The staff are very good. Professionals. The steaks were worthy of a steakhouse. My filet was excellent cooked to medium rare perfection. My guest had a NY strip that was equally perfect. They do have all of the nOLA dishes on the menu, buts a steakhouse so we had steak. A very nice meal.

LOVE THIS PLACE! The food is always amazing and the atmosphere is definitely old Metairie. Had the stuffed shrimp special which was delicious. Next time I'll get it without the sauce (it was a little too rich and wasn't needed). If you are looking for a romantic spot with fantastic food, this place is for you. Just FYI, parking is limited.

This place is great! Wonderful service! Our waiter was Eric and he was fabulous. We didn't have a reservation but we're still able to secure a table. Great atmosphere! I will be back. I've lived in Kenner for two years and didn't know that this place existed. Will be bringing family on the next visit!

This restaurant has definitely improved. It is still my least favorite of Mr Ed's restaurants, but the food has gotten much better. Not my first choice, but worth a try.

Not my favorite Ed McIntyre restraint by a long shot. I would choose Mr Ed's or cheeseburger Eddie's over this place anyday. While the atmosphere may be nicer at Austin's the food is much better at the other two restaurants. It is still worth going if you're in the Metairie area.... But cheeseburger Effie's is just one street over!! (Hint hint ;) ;) )

Came here for a friends anniversary dinner in one of the private rooms. 4 course dinner included: gumbo, salad, choice of an entree, and dessert. Let's start with the gumbo. Easily some of the best "restaurant gumbo" hands down. I'm married to the worlds biggest and pickiest gumbo critic and for him to say it was good says something. Salad didn't impress me but who really cares about a dinner salad anyway. Let's jump to the main course. I ordered the seafood penne pasta but I did manage to try the other two options. Pasta was delicious. Rich cream sauce with andouille sausage and shrimp. I got a chance to sample the chicken marsala which was surprisingly good. It's gravy based but it wasn't bad at all. Not sure if I would order it by itself if I ever returned. I also sampled my husbands rib eye which was awesome. Nxt time I come I will be ordering that. For dessert we had the bread pudding which was bomb. Everyone agreed. Overall I would def come back.

Great Atmosphere and amazing food. Went here with a date. It's very quaint and upscale dining, white table clothes, piano player. The food was delicious. Not to mention their pomegranate martini was excellent. We order grilled artichokes as an appetizer. Was yummy, however a bit messy. Lol. Entree I order their signature dish which is Filet over creamed spinach and asparagus. It was amazing and just melted in your mouth. My date ordered the Halibut which also was amazing.

At Austin's, it's all about the steaks, and the steaks do not disappoint. I had the 8 oz filet mignon (medium rare, the proper way to prepare a prime cut) with a side of broccoli au gratin. Our table also ordered several appetizers and cabernet to go with our meal. I finished the meal with a delicious Spumoni cheesecake. Filet Mignon These steaks are cut thick and cooked well and finished with a knob of butter on top. Most steaks will come on a piping hot plate ungarnished with the side items served on separate dishes. They actually bake their steak serving plates at 400F, which is a nice touch as this causes your steak to come out sizzling and brings with it a wonderful aroma (be warned, do not come in contact with the plates or you will be burned). My steak had a wonderful texture and flavor, and by the time I was done, I wished I could have a few more bites. It did seem that they cook the steaks a tad rare perhaps to anticipate an additional bit of cooking coming from sitting on the piping hot plates. I like the fact that Austin's knows who the star of the show is, and ensure that you don't forget it by bringing their sensory onslaught: See and hear it sizzling on the plate, smell the aroma, taste the fantastic flavor, and if you are unfortunate, feel the heat. A great steak by any measure. Broccoli au Gratin A hearty helping of cheese and broccoli. The broccoli had a nice crunch, and were cooked nicely through. The cheese sauce was good, but my favorite part was the cheese topper, baked and slightly browned to achieve a good texture and seal in the flavors inside. Spumoni Cheesecake They brought out a dessert tray showing off some of their dessert offerings (they had more, but the tray was pretty full already!). The Spumoni cheesecake is by far the most colorful of the bunch. Our server described it as an interesting take on the traditional Spumoni ice cream dessert, with the colors representing the Italian flag. Bottom layer of graham crumbs?, pistachio on top, then cherry, and vanilla(?). I imagine the whole cheesecake looks unassuming, but is a surprise as you cut in. Sure the white is supposed to be in the center of the flag, but I think the way they put this dessert together works. The flavors go very well together, and surprisingly, pistachio wasn't the overtone, but the cherry flavor was the most dominant (also the thickest layer). There is some fruit mixed in as well, which is a nice addition. Appetizers (calamari, Hawaiian spicy shrimp, and meet and cheese wraps) and wine were all fine. I didn't feel like the appetizers were phenomenal, but good starters. You also get some brioche bread and butter before the meal. The atmosphere of Austin's is classy, but maybe a bit old-fashioned. There were no really memorable furnishings, except that there was only one restroom with a single toilet. Not a problem that night, but maybe if the place were full... The place was also pretty quiet, and the music was soft enough to be heard if you are listening in, but loud enough to break silence. The restaurant is sort of in an unexpected location, but that is sort of a norm for NOLA. Also, prices are on the higher end, but won't make you broke overnight. All in all, you come for a great steak, and you can expect a fantastic steak from Austin's. The rest is just lagniappe.

It's a Monday night (2/18/13) and kind of rainy and all I want to do is watch The Walking Dead on my dvr while laying around in my Fart Sacks (that's gym shorts for you more sophisticated types). Alas, my 11 year old daughter reminds me that I have yet to take her out for her b-day dinner. It's a tradition that I have had with both of my daughters for the past 4-5 years. They pick anywhere they want to go eat. So I get dressed up (by dressed up I mean I put on clothes that were not my Fart Sacks) and pick her up in Metairie. She wanted a steak and since Austin's is close to baby-mama's, Austin's we go. We walked in and were seated right away. The place feels upscale right from the jump with the piano in the front entrance, white table clothes with all the china on the tables already and all the waiter dressed like penguins. The wait staff was very friendly and accomodating. We each started off with the duck and andoille gumbo which was a special that night. The gumbo had a TON of meat and a nice dark roux. Then we got our entrees. I got the andoille crusted drum fish, another special. It was sitting on some sort of bbq andoille puree like stuff, mixed in with a few potatoes and 3 perfect onion rings on top. Quite Tasty. My daughter gor the 8 oz. filet with sizzling garlic butter and some steak fries. She let me have a bite and honestly the steaks here are top notch. It's as good as any high end steakhouse. The steak fries were perfect and I usually don't like steak fries, These were crispy on the outside and like little pillows of puffiness on the inside. We were too full for dessert so I have no idea how they were. This is to me by far the best restaurant in Metairie. There are only two negatives and I don't really know if it's a negative. The place seems to have a lot of older customers. Older people like Metairie I guess. But it felt like it was AARP discount night not that that really matters. Just an observation. The other thing is the parking sucks. Everyone around the area puts "No Parking or you will be towed" signs up even though they are not open. You'd think Austin's would make a deal with these places to use their lots after 5.

Austin's has a nice ambiance. The piano player in the waiting area was playing as I was selecting a wine. They have a nice wine selection, better than you would expect out in the suburbs. The prices are reasonable not like some of the downtown destination restaurants where triple retail is considered a bargain wine. Sometimes they run a coupon in the local paper for a free bottle of the house wine with a dinner purchase. On this visit I had the regular 8 oz filet with a side order of garlic mashed potatoes. My wife had the Filet Austin; which are 2 4 oz filets served on a bed of creamed spinach and caramelized onions with asparagus spears. She had a side of broccoli au gratin which we shared. The meat was excellent, cooked as we asked. Both salads, the blue cheese wedge and the creole tomato and mozzarella dish, were good sized. We finished the dinner with their bread pudding. As usual, service was great. I've had most of their veal dishes, all were good meals. The pecan crusted trout in a Meuniere sauce is another good choice. The wait staff is knowledgeable about the dishes. I can't go wrong taking my wife here for dinner. Austin's may not be a 5-star destination restaurant in the Quarter, but I consider it worth a visit out in Metairie on a regular basis. And from the crowds, there are a lot of people who agree.

This little gem is hidden away on W. Esplanade. From the outside it doesn't look like much but when you enter it's comparable to any steakhouse downtown. We were in a private room for my dad's birthday. The waiters were attentive and accommodating. It's a steakhouse but since I don't eat steak I was pretty excited to see all the seafood options. I split the fried green tomatoes and had the soft shelled crab Amanda. I love fried green tomatoes and these did not disappoint. I think there were 5 tomatoes that were crispy and fried to perfection and covered in a delish remoulade sauce. Seriously, the sauce was so good I would have licked the plate clean. My entree didn't disappoint either. I had one large soft shelled crab with a remoulade esq sauce with lots of crab meat and shrimp on top. So good I ate the whole thing. There around 9 dishes I wanted to try so I will definitely be back. This place is a nice little retreat in Metairie.

Called ahead and made a reservation for 2 on Sat night @ 8:30 pm with no problems. Walked right in, we were greeted and only waited a few short minutes before we were seated. Scott was the piano man and the music was nice. (of course had just come from jazz Fest where Billy joel ended with Piano Man.) Our waiter greeted us promptly and took our drink order first. Appetizers: crawfish cake -- recommended. on top of mixed greens topped with creamy flavor infused sauce strawberry spinach salad -- toasted marcona almonds, feta cheese, strawberry balsamy dressing of which i made adjustments. threw in the spiced pecans (from another salad) and chagned dressing to honey truffle thousand island. the waited added it on top and it was too much. not a huge fan of the dressign but the salad was good all in all. nothing special. Main Entree: Porkchop, sweet potato hash, cajun dirty rice -- porkchop was overdone (friend ordered medium well), i love me some sweet taters but they were too sweet. I personally can not handle too much sugar added in. Did not try the rice. Osso Bucco -- braised veal shank on top angel hair pasta in tomato based sauce Ok the braised shank was ok. better than the pork for sure. but still too fatty for me after the waiter assured me it wasn't. it happens. the pasta and sauce however were excellent! Seriously, and I'm not a pasta fan. Sides: Sweet potato corn grits -- they made me want to stand up and slap my pappy! I think it was just the hash mixed with their grits but it toned downt he sweetness and it was deeeelish! Dessert: Coconut Panna Cotta -- it was a gelatin/ puddgin texture. like a creme brulee almost. the liquer based sauce was too sweet (less is more) but just the panna cotta with toasted coconut would have been perfect. Light, fluffy, and slightly sweet to satisy the after dinner craving. Bread pudding -- meh. I'm pretty picky,, so I wouldn't recommend it. Our waiter was nice and was on top of everything. He was very accommodating on the salad request and I even asked him to recommend a few items on the menu.

Went there on a Tuesday night and the place was crowded by the time we left. That says something on a Tuesday night. They have a great well-rounded menu with something for everyone, steaks to Italian. The duck egg roll appetizers were homemade and had lots of duck meat. The salad I split with my companion had crab meat and boiled shrimp and for the main course I had the Veal Austin. It was very good, fresh ingredients and presented nicely. The service was very good also. The waiter did bring us the wrong side order, but it was delicious, so we just went with it. Solid dessert choices round up the meal. Yes, the parking is a pain, but this place is a gem in Metairie, where fine dining is not just around every corner.

APPS: Fried lobster tail-yummy! shrimp remoulade, basic but good. grilled artichoke--amaazing! comes with a lemon parmesan sauce, sooo goood. tomato and mozz salad, served differently than a usual caprese salad with a sweet balsamic dressing. ENTREE: filet austin; 2 4 oz filets served over creamed spinach and carmelized onions on top with 3 of the biggest asparagus spears Ive ever seen. I also ordered the sauteed crabmeat which has mushrooms and green onion too. I couldhave done without the carmelized onions I guess. Softshell Crab Napoleon, huge juicy fried crab cooked to perfection. DESSERT: bread pudding, best Ive had in a long time berries in cream, served cold and chocolate cake, rich They have the BEST wine menu Ive ever seen and prices are reasonable too. Atmosphere is cozy and service was outstanding.

Is it wrong that I feel like Austin's is a classier version of Copelands? Though I can feel the possible scorn and resentment from saying such a thing, I can't help myself. Can't. Help. It. The food is tasty. (No diggety/No doubt) Not here to say the food ain't good. Nuh uh. BUT/HOWEVER/KEEP IN CONSIDERATION- you are going to pay an arm and a leg. Entrees go from $19-$30. They've got seafood, steaks, and pasta. It's good but honestly, I think it's forgettable. Who wants to pay $26 for a good but forgettable redfish? Not this gal. The service is good. The ambiance is good (minus the cheesy elevator music). The food is good. It just comes with a hefty price tag (I want my price tags airy and light- not unlike a meringue).

Gotta check out Austin's. The food and wine selection is fantastic. I always order the filet mignon with lump crab meat. Yup it's great. Somehow, the always seem to get a great sear on the steak and still manage to cook it rare. You can't find that everywhere.

We just walked in on a Wednesday night because we figured that we didn't need a reservation and waited a few minutes before we were even greeted. Then we were seated to our delight. It was my first time here so I guess I had high expectations due to the ambiance and highly priced menu. We were then greeted by the server, whom got our drink orders to start out. I ordered a manhattan and my significant other ordered a sazarac(a New Orleans classic btw). We received our drinks and they were terrible. The sazarac was served on ice and the manhattan was terribly bitter. I don't usually like to send things back, but we did. The server then returned with our wine we ordered and didn't verbalize any specials. We inquired about the soup du jour and he mentioned the duck gumbo. I asked him to describe it since it wasn't on the menu. He said,"ya know its just duck..in gumbo". What?! Seriously guys I could be dining at Ruth's Chris without all this nonsense. Needless to say we ate our appetizer, which was uneventful. we then asked for the check, in which we had to ask him to take the drinks off of that werent correct and then left. Very disappointing.

Not impressed at all. The ambience was nice, dimly lit and very intimate, but the food was not impressive to say the least. Ordered the fried tomatoes, Louisianna Redfish, and I two cocktails. It all started with the bread, which was subpar, then the appetizer subpar once again, then finally the entree was just okay...guess I paid for the ambience. Quite disheartening considering all the great reviews. I will say this though, my server was very friendly and attentive. Please beware the food, at least everything I ordered, is nothing to write home to mama about!!!

HANDS DOWN, FAVORITE RESTAURANT! There is no other place to get a filet mignon! It always comes out still sizzling, so you won't ever have to worry about getting your food cold. The filet mignon just melts in your mouth and is heavenly. Vanilla creme brulee is, also, super yummy. The salmon, trout, and pastas are also very yummy. It is definitely pricey, but well worth every penny; especially if you are celebrating a special occasion. Servers are usually quite attentive, but there have been a couple of times when they were short a server; therefore the service might not be up to the usual par, but still better than most other places. Patience is a virtue! Love the live piano player! Pretty much, everything is super delicious! No other steak places, or restaurants in general, can top this place, in my book!

Last week I had the pleasure of enjoying a free steak dinner at Austin's for simply listening (and I didn't really listen, mostly joked with coworkers) to a drug rep push their medications. Yup, I sold out! But for a good reason, my ribeye was delicious! Oh and I should mention, I work in Metairie which was why I ate out there....I don't usually ;) But moving on...we had shrimp remoulade to start, followed by a small cup of gumbo and salad. They dressed the shrimp too much, so that was just okay and the gumbo was fine; enjoyed the salad a lot since it had raisin and nuts to add a little pizzazz! MY ribeye was huge and cooked exactly to my liking (med rare only). I almost ate it all, it was so good! And let's not forget, it was free so I wasn't going to let anything go to waste ;) In the end, it was a pleasant evening with good food and service. I cannot comment on prices but food was of great quality.

I've always enjoyed my dinners here. I found the waiters to be knowledgeable and friendly. The menu is huge, though their nightly specials don't really change (I ate here three nights in a row for business dinners...). I highly recommend the grilled artichokes as a starter. I always go with the stuffed lobster tail topped with crabmeat - always a winner in my book. Colleagues rant and rave about the soft-shell crab entree. Parking is a pain, but hey, what do you expect...it's Metairie. Only open for dinner. Website has been under construction forever.

Love the atmosphere, the service was excellent and even the piano player was on his game. The Seafood Martini is a winner, as is every other dish i have had here. This is our go to place when we want a nice dinner. GW Fins is still our favorite, but Austins is a close second.

  • Sarah C.

Avoid, avoid, avoid! On first glance the atmosphere was very good. There was a piano player in the bar area that made the short wait very pleasant. It was all downhill from here. We were told by 2 different servers that our bread was on the way but it took 15 more minutes and 2 more requests to actually receive it. My soup was very delicious but my entree was far from tasty. I ordered veal topped with crabmeat and mushrooms. The veal was deep fried in a 2:1 ratio breading to veal and there was so much black pepper on top of all the crab meat that it was pretty terrible. To add to the frustrations, our server never once stopped back by the table to ask how we were doing. In a metro area renowned for it's cuisine it is a shame we wasted a special night on such a disappointing meal.

  • Jennifer F.

This neighborhood secret is a gem. Do make reservations though. The wait can be long. If they have the grilled artichokes appetizer, try it, it is worth it. Their menu is varied enough that there should be something even for picky eaters. The service is good, but not 5 star. This is a good place for everyday and a little more fancy dinner too. Even my non-worldly mother-in-law liked it. Good for two or several, but not for a quiet romantic dinner.

I'll start from the beginning and work my way through the night we had at Austin's. My father had a gift certificate so we went with the entire family of 6. We had reservations and were seated immediately. Also as you walk in there's a piano, with a young man who is excellent at playing the piano. That may have been the best part of the evening. We sat down and our waiter introduced himself and took our drink orders. Not everyone got drinks. There were a few of us who ordered water. We got our alcoholic drinks within 5 minutes, but never got water. We ordered our food and still never got our water. I got my soup before I got my water! I finally had to ask the waiter for our waters because he never noticed. Also my father was very specific about his drink and it was wrong. We also immediately noticed (with appetizers) that this young man did not have much experience. He stood from one spot from the table and handed out dishes. The bus boy even knew better and served from the left. The waiter did not. He also attempted to take away an appetizer from my father who was obviously not finished. Then our entrees came. He came out with two entrees. He first reached out across my husband to serve me a HOT dish and did not tell me. He could not reach me and expected me to set it down without telling me the plate was hot. I burned my hand. And, while this is going on he has the entree in the other hand and in trying to reach, he hits my sister-in-law in the back of the head with other entree. I kid you not! Then my brother asked for a marrow spoon for his entree and he came out with an oyster fork. And when dessert came, he gave everyone forks. Have you ever tried eating Creme Brulee with a fork? It's not easy. Overall there was a lot of serving over other people and constant lack of water. He also would serve 5 out of 6 people and forget the last person. We were a party of six and therefore forced to pay an 18% gratuity but this is the only reason our waiter got any tip from us. As for the food, it was good but not necessarily worth the prices. Needless to say we were very dissatisfied and we will not be making a return trip!!!

Dinner Saturday 6:30 pm. Restaurant crowded, seated right away. If we came much later, slight wait. Service was Great, as usual. Lettuce wedge w/ blue cheese & bacon very good. Creole Tomato salad (last week) excellent but wanted to try something different this week. Pecan Trout w/ Meuniere sauce excellent. Sides of potatoes & veg. Mix of zucchini, squash , red onion OK. Prefer broccoli. au gratin which ordered extra. Excellent. Spouse's Turtle soup good. Not the best but good. Veal Marsala w/ mushrooms & angel hair pasta good. He was quite happy with his meal. Free bottle of wine with newspaper coupon. Nice added touch! We will return. Piano music. Nice ambiance.
