Very few places deserve only one star... but this is one of them! After hearing a close friend rave about this place, my wife and I decided to give it a try a few weeks ago on a Thursday night. (I've waited until now to write the review so that some of my negativity could pass.) When we walked in, the first thing we noticed is that it was almost empty... and dark. The "atmosphere" was very uninviting, to say the least. It was almost ten minutes before someone even told us "hello." I'll spare you the details, but let's just say that it took almost two hours for dinner. In our area, my wife and I are in-and-out of just about any restaurant in forty-five minutes. I don't ever give one star... two stars is my lowest rating. Incredibly slow service... mediocre food... I really don't think we'll be back anytime soon. After the great references from our friend, it was a huge disappointment.

Waited 30 minutes for drinks, waited 1 hour 39 minutes for food. They brought the food out for our party of 6 15 minutes apart. The food was just ok not worth the long wait. Also the waitress was not concerned and did not apologize for anything.

Fast attentive service - yes I am talking about Soop's ! Since new family members have taken over management , restaurant runs like a well oiled machine. Food has always been great and I look forward to many more years of tasty treats.....

One of the best steaks I have had in a long time. It was tender, juicy and cooked to perfection. Will definitely go back again.

Great Southern Louisiana food! This is a favorite of the locals. I have frequented Soop's since moving to the area. One of the best seafood gumbos that I personally have ever eaten. At least 9 times out of 10 my wife and I order a bowl or cup while dining here. The atmosphere does fall short despite a remodel that was completed in recent years. It was much less desirable before though. A very low budget operation. Very typical of an original Cajun restraunt. Don't let this fact deter you from sampling the cuisine. I still consider the food worthy. It is located right next door to Hebert's Specialty Meat. Which is well known for their stuffed deboned chicken.

Bamm !! Best gumbo and fried seafood platter I have ever had in a restaurant. Hands down. Its out of the way but sooooooo worth the drive.

Simply adore the crawfish bisque served at Soop's. Been coming here for many years. If crawfish aren't in season, their shrimp stew is also a delicious meal. Portions are huge. Their potato salad is also tasty. This 100% Cajun girl can attest to the quality of the food at Soop's. Worth the drive.

Not what it used to be. Tables not very clean, food was cold. Crab au gratin cheese wasn't even melted. Seafood stuffing was cold in the middle, Fries were piled so high you couldn't tell if there was food underneath it all. Seafood gumbo was good however, and if that were all we had, then this would be 4 stars. There are too many better places to eat in Lafayette and Abbeville to stop here. Will try Mr. Keet's next time if I decide to eat in Maurice again.
