A big fav. If service was better I would give 5 stars, but it is usually busy when we've been there. Go with a big party for special occasions or you will sit with some random people at the hibachi grills (seating for 10). Can opt to sit at sushi bar. The hibachi chefs put on a show & are quite silly. Enjoyed the fun with my teenaged family members. Sushi is fresh and delicious. Scallops & shrimp are our fav, my sis & bro enjoy the lobster & fillet mignon, & the kids like chicken & shrimp. Love the miso soup (this veggie soup somehow tastes like bacon!) but, the salad is very lacking although ginger dressing is tasty (I hate iceberg lettuce, make it green for me!) and we always have leftovers. We've never made it to dessert.

A word of warning--don't sit at the sushi bar if you're wanting good service. That seems to be where they train the new people. This place is really hit and miss, and it all comes down to the service. The last time I was in there, the service was really exceptional. The food is pretty much always good--I've toured the menu pretty extensively and I'm always happy with the way the sushi chefs and the cooks in the back handle the food. If it was just about the food, I'd give this place 4 or 5 stars. Other than the last time I was there, I've almost always had terrible service. That includes ordering to-go, where even with a 45-minute call ahead, they STILL didn't start preparing our order until well AFTER we showed up for our food. That night it was raining pretty heavily, and the restaurant was not crowded at all. The service staff working the front of the restaurant also tend to be unprofessional. More than once I've heard them complain right in front of crowds waiting to be seated about their jobs, how obnoxious it is that they have to seat people, etc. I've never done the Hibachi. The folks in the back room always seem to be having a good time. The food's good. It really is. It's why I keep going back. And to be fair, I did finally get a really good waiter the last time I was there... ...but man, do they need cut down on their waitstaff turnover and focus on training their staff better.

We decided to try out this place because it looked so nice. At 7:30 at night there were hardly any customers. We sat down and the first thing I noticed was that the dishes and napkins were dirty. Ugh! The wait staff is very unprofessional. I ordered habachi and my wife ordered sashimi. The waitress was unwilling to bring out portions of the meal when we requested it to be brought out. The soup tasted like liquid pepper. (no exaggeration.) The ginger dressing had a distinct taste of oranges. They brought the habachi chicken and vegetables out that I ordered. Not bad. Although the chicken had a lot of black pepper as well. I asked for the sauce that comes with it. She brings out the orange flavored ginger sauce and honey mustard... Are you serious? If you are in the area looking for great Japanese food please do yourself a favor and go across the freeway to Osaka's. 10 times better. The moral of this dining experience- Never judge a restaurant by the building!

My friend and I went here for dinner 5/3/2015. We both ordered hibachi and really enjoyed it. The girl sitting next to us said she didn't like her sushi, but she loved her hibachi. I can't vouch for the taste of her sushi since I didn't taste it though? There is a mandatory 15% gratuity added to all hibachi orders. I'm not fond of places that do that at all... Also, this place is quite expensive, in my opinion. The two of us paid over $60... I really don't feel like it was worth the price. Good? Yes. Memorable? Hardly... I've seen several reviews here trashing the service. We had no issue at all... Our waiter (who looked like Eli Manning) was very attentive without being a pest. Their noodles are a lot better than Osaka. However, I'm not sure I'll be back here though? I liked it but didn't really love it... Not sure if that makes sense?

I was really shocked at all the bad reviews! We had an awesome experience! Service and food were both amazing! Our chef was very entertaining and super nice !!! We will be back!

We've been coming here since they've opened but the last 4 times have been HORRIBLE! Tonight is the last time that my family and I will ever visit this establishment. Jim, our waiter, reeked of Marijuana and it took over 2 hours to get our food AT THE HIBACHI! Benny was our hibachi cook and used profanity and sexual inuendeous while preparing our food! We had 5 and 6 year olds at the table and he tried to spoon feed them! It was very uncomfortable, the service was horrible, the bathroom stalls had no locks on them and it just looked like the place has fallen on bad times. We will not be back due to the staff.

This place is disgustingly dirty. From the minute you walk in the door the floor is sticky. Then when you sit down the tables are dirty from the previous guests. Omg not to mention the menus are so dirty u can barely read them. The topper was the metal in the noodles. When I asked to speak with the manager he didn't care that the restaurant was dirty. He did apologize for the metal.

I'm shocked about all the negative reviews this place has gotten. I thought it was pretty good! The chef was very entertaining and we got seated with a really nice girl and her son. The food was very good and they gave us large quantities. Worth every penny, and will return!

Horrible service! Tried again and same results. It's a matter of time when their business will deplete

I've never walked out of restaurant until my visit to Kyoto. After a considerable wait we were seated without menus. We did, however, have dirty plates sitting in front of us. When the waitress made it to us she proceeded to ask for drink and appetizer orders although we weren't sure what our options were seeing as how we still didn't have menus. All of this we could have roughed out but when the waitress sniffed my husbands drink, presumably to see if she got the order right we gave up. Never again. Ever. (I'm only giving this one star because I can't give it zero.)

The waiter was very reserved which somehow made it awkward. The sushi was great as was my udon. But my friend ordered food from the hibachi (we were sitting in regular dining) and his meal tasted quite old like it had been sitting out all day.

Horrible service. Hibachi food served at the dine in was obviously microwaved. Sushi was ok but nothing great. The manager gave us a discount (barely anything!) on the hibachi that we barely touched since it was so bland. I had to walk up the waiter several times to get his attention.

This restaurant looks like an authentic Japanese eating establishment right out of Tokyo. The food is subpar and expensive. The rolls average $12-14 per and they aren't as good as some of their competitors in the area. The fried rice is tasteless. The experience is great! But unfortunately, I'm there for the food not the decor.

Celebrating my son's BD and he wanted to come here. I ordered Hibachi Chicken & Shrimp. It came out luke-warm and dry. Whole meal for 6 including tip was over $200. I would not recommend this place to anyone.

Food is ok but the service is terrible! We waited 45 mins for drinks and menus and the server hardly checked on us! The restaurant has a policy that they automatically add 15% gratuity on all Hibachi tables, so the server has little incentive to work for his tip.

We had a terrible dining experience tonight. First, we were seated by a waitress who shouldered aside a fellow waiter to seat us; that accomplished, she disappeared. I don't believe that I saw her again that night. After some ten minutes of waiting without water - but watching a waiter at a neighboring table chat up some random couple for five minutes - we decided to leave. We asked to see a manager, who expressed numerous apologies and offered a discount. We stayed. While we were waiting for our food, we noticed some giant blob of organic yuck that was lying on the ground right next to the table, apparently dropped from somebody's plate. The manager quickly cleaned it when brought to her attention, but in a restaurant as supposedly high-class as Kyoto, it shouldn't have been there to begin with. Our food arrived on time, and was decent - but when my father ordered a spring roll, which every person on the planet understands to be a fried wonton shell with cabbage and carrots and meat, he was brought instead a plate of vegetable sushi. The waitress insisted that she had entered it correctly. She was nice about it, but she was also wrong. Everything in Kyoto's seems to be falling apart. The cushions show obvious signs of wear and tear; many of the wooden facades are peeling, or are clumsily repaired and stuck together instead of being simply replaced. So yeah, I would avoid Kyoto's.

I read the reviews and was not excited about going to Kyoto's with a group of friends. However, I was pleasantly surprised. It was a good show at the grill, the food was great and it was all prepared and served in a timely manner.

This is one of my wife's favorite restaurants in Lake Charles. She love Japanese cuisine, so you can imagine her excitement when Kyoto opened a few years ago. Lake Charles also has Miyako and Fuji, but she prefers the atmosphere at Kyoto more. The waiting area is well appointed, but can get a little tight during busy hours. High-top tables, a faux koi pond, dim lighting, a couple of private booths, and a horseshoe bar make up the cool sushi room. There are about 16 10-seat tables in the hibachi area. Four foot flames, the clanging of spatulas, and the smell of soy sauce make you feel just like you're in Japan! Well...not quite, but it's still fun! On to the food! The hibachi menu is fairly standard but has a good variety. I haven't had a bad chef yet. They put out a consistent, delicious product and there is always enough to lunch the next day. I really enjoy their sushi menu as well, great preparation and presentation. My favorite roll is definitely the Mardi Gras roll. It's a HUGE bite but a great roll! You have to try it when you visit To sum it, up... GO! = )

Habachi Grill during this visit. I wasn't terribly impressed. The shrimp was already cleaned and the chicken was also already pre-cut. Gobs of rice and noodles, and the veggies were last after the meat. Not a whole lot of fun grill work, which is pretty much the whole point of going to Habachi. Also, paper napkins and most of the plates didn't match. Felt a bit overpriced when you add it all up. OH.. and the salad - a few sheets of cheap iceberg lettuce with a splash of ginger dressing and a small cup of watery (yes, this is what you get at all of them) soup. Meh. Been here for sushi before and that was pretty good. They got an extra star for that.

Kyoto's is great for a night of dining out. Typical of many hibachi steakhouse's, you sit at a grill with mixed company. The chefs/entertainers cook in front of you with a little showmanship. The prices are a bit high, so I usually make this a once in a while outing. Both the hibachi and the sushi are first-rate. The servers bringing drinks and other items leave much to be desired and could use training. From what I hear elsewhere, their turnover rate is high. Personally, I haven't had a terrible experience here, but have had to wait abnormally long for refills, sushi bar items, and the check. Overall, I would definitely recommend this place for the food and especially a fun night out with groups, but expect to pay more and keep a leash on your server.

We came to this establishment while visiting my family in Lake Charles. The restaurant interior is very pretty, modern and with Japanese touches. Also, the atmosphere was relaxing and welcoming. We chose to sit at the Hibatchi table instead of the dining room area. (Note: Half of your party must order Hibatchi to sit at the tables) Our chef was entertaining and friendly, which is very important in my opinion. Most hibatchi places that I have been too use a lot of butter and salt and Kyoto wasn't an exception. I order the filet mignon and scallops which came with fried rice, fried noodles, veggies, salad and soup. The meat was tender and flavorful and cooked to my liking other than the high salt content that most of the food had. The service was good, but not the best I've ever experienced.

Had lunch here recently. Food was superb. Service was lacking. Seems like the service here never gets better. They must hire first time wait staffers. Will always go back for the sushi.
