Went there today for some boiled crayfish. Good size, fresh taste but the seasoning was just ok and the price was in the middle of the going rates around town. Ordered the fried eggplant and was dissappointed. At $7.95 an order, it tasted frozen with no flavor and cheap cold marinara on side and cheap parmesan cheese on top. Service was friendly but not sure how fast will be returning

Was in town and craving a shrimp po-boy... Heard good things so gave it a try! I don't like to be risky in Nola since I dont come often enough and shrimp po-boys are my favorite!! Smitty's was what I expected and worth the risk! Lots of shrimp on the po-boy which is very important! The shrimp were smaller which I like for a po-boy. The bread was soft and warm. Could've used more tartar sauce, which I could have asked for but didn't! We got crawfish poppers as an appetizer..... Like a hush puppy with crawfish! Loved them and the dipping sauce! Cajun potatoes were fried potato wedges!!?? Not sure what was Cajun about them, could've used some spice! This place looks like it should be on a bayou somewhere.... Which suits me fine! Service was spotty even though the place was nearly empty and it was an odd time... (Good thing we weren't really thirsty!). If I'm ever near the airport and craving a po-boy again... I'd be back for sure!

Quick helpful service, delicious crawfish poppers n seafood gumbo delicious, generous servings, shrimp a little tough to peel but the waitress warned us but was also very helpful to all of us in selecting our meal; Shrimp Po-boy was huge and delicious, overflowing with shrimp Will be back; have missed this place; love their eggplant sticks too!!

My wife & I came here for lunch and we were severely disappointed. We both are foodies, and know local cuisine. Their po'boys were uninspiring. Shrimp was heavily breaded. Soups were good however. Prices for raw oysters were 50% higher than other local competition, so why come here. We told our relatives who live here, and they knew not to come here since it changed hands and was renamed two years ago.

4.75 We had a great meal. When you walk in it smells like LA. The crawfish came out hot and done right. This is a must stop.

It will be a long time before we go back to Smitty's. I gave it three times and each time was worse then the previous time. In fact I got really sick, with sweat dropping down and eyes of red after eating the last time. Just not pleased.

This review is a bit late, as I was in Smitty's again a few months ago, but I thought I'd add another few stars anyway. Every time I'm near NOLA I make it a point to go have some boiled shrimp at Smitty's. Anything less would be uncivilized.

My husband and I were in New Orleans on two different occasions within two weeks visiting his mother in Kenner. Everyday we ate seafood because we've been so deprived of it while living in northern California. We ate at Smitty's twice because not only was it conveniently located, but it was so fresh and delicious plus the service is outstanding. The gumbo is to die for and the fried shrimp and oysters are fantastic, even the french fries were good. Husband doesn't like catfish and had no idea that's what he was eating. He kept saying how good the fish were and my mother-in-law informed him he was eating catfish which he found hard to believe and said it was the best he's every had. Next door, is Smitty's bar for those who need a cocktail or beer. We don't drink so I have no idea what it's like but the parking lot was full. Everyone should try this restaurant if they're craving fresh seafood!

HOLY CRAWFISH BATMAN! Stopped in while in NOLA on business. No complaints here. They were pretty busy for early crawfish season. Awesome service. Local folks and reasonable pricing. Fresh, delicious shrimp and crawfish. I Definitely a stop if you're in town. Why eat on Bourbon Street when you can eat with the locals?! I feel a return visit in my future.

Smittys is not the same smittys it use to be. I never get the amount of crawfish I order. One day I ordered 6 lbs of boiled crawfish and when I got home I re weighed it to find out I was only given 5.78 lbs exact. When I called to voice my grievances I was told that it was probably an error with the scale. Mind you your package of crawfish doesn't come with a sticker attached like most seafood places to know the exact amount you got so you have to basically take their word on it. I'm pretty sure I was shorted out of crawfish paid for on many occasions. They did accommodate me for the difference in missing crawfish so be leery of the amount received versus the amount given. With all the hassle it may be less of a burden to just purchase from Kenner seafood or the harbor.

Food is amazing and the service is always good. The soups are all delicious. The boiled crawfish and crabs are some of the best I've eaten. Come here often. Don't have anything bad to say about this place!

Was my first time here. I can say I wasn't disappointed. Great staff. I will definitely go back before I leave town and will be back anytime I'm in town.

Smitty's seems to have gone slightly downhill. They have removed the standing paper towel rolls and replaced them with napkin dispensers which are awkward to use when eating crawfish. They also don't put out butter with the crackers anymore. Trying to cut corners, I guess. My friend had the grilled fish special of the day. It looked terrible. Three long, thin and dry pieces, with a huge bowl of steamed vegetables. Not a very good value for $10.95. The crawfish were delicious, so that was the saving grace. Smitty's has long been our go-to place for seafood, but I think we are going to branch out and try new places after this experience.

From the outside you would expect a quick sit down joint with greasy, easy cooked seafood but that's not what you get. Food here was delicious for the price and being NOLA everything is fresh. Family ordered several plates of oysters and gumbo. Definitely a place to stop if you're nearby.

Best fried catfish in the world, and also killer bread pudding. Plus-friendly staff, large portion sizes, reasonable pricing. I have visited this place over 20 times and never had a bad experience. Minus-seating and parking can be difficult during peak hours. If you are looking for a formal sit-down surf-and-turf restaurant, this one is not for you. If you like good seafood and a Cajun atmosphere this is it!

I love this restaurant! A local friend recommended me, their BBQ shrimp was fantastic! And we got a ton of boiled crawfish for $15! The wait staff is nothing special, probably because they're pretty busy, but I came there to eat, not to chat with waitresses, so it didn't bother me. Overall, I thought it was great:) I would go again for sure!

This is my third time at Smitty's, and it's been fantastic every time. My waiter was awesome and friendly, and the po boy I had was the best I have had here in NOLA! I can't express how awesome Smitty's is! I would keep in mind, that you're not paying for atmosphere here. The food is king!

Ordered some boiled crawfish to go from Smitty's. I live about a mile away from the place, so I am very confused as to why my crawfish was SO cold when I got home with them. When I say cold, I don't mean room temperature. When I say cold I mean it tasted as if these crawfish had been sitting in the refrigerator for the last hour. I don't mind paying $5.49 a pound for excellent crawfish, but this was absolutely not up to par and not worth the money. The only reason I'm giving this place 2 stars is because once I reheated the crawfish myself, the seasoning was pretty good. I will not return.

Smitty's is a little hole in the wall place with almost no parking. That being said, their food, while slightly overpriced, is GOOD. Their crawfish is top notch. My personal favorite is the crawfish pasta. It's an absolutely huge portion, served with buttered french bread of course. I can literally get 2 or 3 meals out of this one dish. Seating is very limited, so be prepared to wait on the bench outside with a cold one. I usually just call ahead and pick up my crawfish pasta to go on my way into town.

  • Myles S.

This place is great! Anything you get is bound to be really good (I normally get the crawfish pasta which is fantastic). The building itself doesn't look like much and there's not a lot of space, but you're there for the food. It gets really crowded around dinner, though.

Great soup. Boiled Shrimp were good but a little small Mary had oyster Po boy which was good as well .

  • Jill S.

Waited a good while on a Friday night for one of the very few tables inside. Fortunately, the food was definitely worth the wait. I got the seafood artichoke pasta. It's a pasta with fried seafood, artichokes, and a dill cream sauce. Came in a humongous bowl/plate and was absolutely delicious! Sampled crawfish, gumbo, stuffed shrimp, and the veal pasta from other family members and thought it all tasted great. Definitely

In the New Orleans metropolitan area, Kenner isn't really a bastion of good food. I think Smitty's, though, is worthy of being included in some of the best po'boy places in the area, New Orleans proper included. Everything that I've ever gotten here is great. The fried oyster po'boy is among the best I've ever had. The soft shell crab and fried crawfish tails po'boys are excellent too. Mac and cheese is maybe not something you'd typically get at a place like this, but it's definitely just as good as your grandma used to make. Service can be spotty. But the food is so good I'll keep coming back.

  • Cristy C.

I think it's pretty good. I had crawfish, potatoes, gravy fries, boiled crab, and mac and cheese here the other day. I was great! Definitely the place to go for crawfish.

I would give this place more than 5 stars except for a couple of the female waitresses are God awful and should never be in the service industry. That includes the girl that always seems to be seating people when we go. She has the personality of a wet paper towel. Get rid of them and this place is perfect. If you can get Carlos, do so. He's fantastic! No, I don't personally know him. We happened to have him once and were SO impressed that we ask for him if he's there. As for the food, it's excellent. It's pricy but you get what you pay for. I think they have the best crawfish around, and the fried seafood is amazing. I normally stay away from fried seafood because it's always greasy and I'm miserable after I eat it. Not at Smitty's. Always cleanly fried and delish. I've had the roast beef poboy and it's very good. The soups I've had have never been disappointing either. We go a couple times a month usually, as we live in Hammond and try to hit various restaurants when we get down that way. They are also very family friendly. Highly recommended!

The food is 4-star quaility. The atmosphere is not even 1 star. The carpet is just nasty. It's been in the restaurant for years of people spilling food, crawfish, drinks, etc. Can't imagine what bacteria is growing in the carpet. Come on Smitty's, it's pass time for a tile floor!

  • May W.

I like smitty's more than harbor's since it's cheaper and the wait is usually shorter. As you can expect at a local New Orleans restaurant, the portions are big and filling. Their fried seafood is great but their shrimp and corn bisque leaves much to be desired. Tomato- based, it was totally not what I expected. But good service and good food if you can't make it out to Kenner Seafood on Loyola.

So great! Quick backstory... The family and I have been on vacation for the past week+ in Florida (near Destin) and New Orleans. For every meal we have relied on Yelp reviews and have only eaten at restaurants with 4+ stars. The result is that we have literally had the best 10-day period of eating in our lives. That has included our past couple days in New Orleans. So why this review of a 3.5 star restaurant in Kenner (about 15 mins from downtown NO)? Well, we have some friends back home who used to live here and this is their old neighborhood haunt so I knew we needed to give it a try. I'm so glad we did. Out of all our great meals of the week, this was the best. While it's a bit short on atmosphere (classic dive), the food is fantastic. I started with a cup of gumbo while the family got the crawfish. The crawfish came out first. Quick aside - the crawfish in downtown was going for $10/lb, which is way high, especially in LA. But Smitty's was just $3.29/lb. I'm not normally a big fan of boiled crawfish but since my wife went to LSU, you can say I've had my taste of it. This was definitely the best I've ever had. (The wife said it matched the best she ever had which was in a small town of Ville Platte, LA years ago.) The gumbo came out and, again, it was the best I had ever had (including the four times earlier in the week at four other 4-star restaurants). I ended up ordering another bowl so the whole family could get their fill. Next I got the Crawfish Pasta. Again, and I don't mean to sound over the top, it was absolutely fantastic. This restaurant topped off a great day of eating after having breakfast at Cafe' du Monde and lunch at Camelia Grill. What a day. This place is defintely worth the 15-minute drive from downtown NO if you're ever in town.

Great boiled crawfish! Definitely my go-to place for that. I've never tried any of their other offerings so I can't speak to that, and that's why I didn't give 5 stars. Every time I have been it's been with a relatively large crowd. They always accomdate us, and I've never had anything but good service there. I'll pass up several seafood restaurants on the Westbank, including the ubiquitous Salvo's, for Smitty's.

First time in this place, and the food was good. They had a couple of flies around, but we didn't let it stop us. Food was good and filling. I would visit again.

Oysters were great. Food was good (we ordered the crawfish pasta and a fried seafood platter) and portions were large, but the food wasn't amazing. Service was ok. I would go back, but I wasn't overwhelmed. From the reviews it sounds like I should have ordered the boiled crawfish. Maybe that's what I will try next time.

Rude waiter or manager. Rudely told us they were closed when we pulled up.

Great food and nice servers. It's not the greatest place for ambiance but as far as food goes YUMMY! I had the crawfish étouffée and it was excellent. Lots of food great sauce, bunches of crawfish and nice spice.

We stopped by this restaurant on the recommendation of the hotel staff nearby. I would have to say that I was thoroughly disappointment. To start, we ordered the boiled shrimp, which are not only small (31/40 count), they tasted like they were still frozen prior to boiling (not a pleasant taste). We also order sausage with our boiled and they were extremely salty. However, our biggest disappointment was with corn, which was still cold in the middle. When we informed the waitress, she took them back and the corn was simply microwaved (much to our shock, so we choose to not touch them again). You would think a mistake like that would warrant the restaurant to offer new corn or not charge for them. Lest, neither happen. It would be safe to say that we will never visit this restaurant again when we visit New Orleans.

First time in New Orleans so if course I was looking for authentic LA food. Found it!! The place is small and parking is not good but it was worth it. I will be back.

Great prices. The service is on top of it. The food is awesome. We had reluctant children trying Crawfish for the first time and needless to say 3 more pounds were ordered, they loved it. Such a great family atmosphere, and even if there is a wait it doesn't feel like it since people are just coming and going.

Their boiled seafood is some of the best in town!!! Also, their soups are usually REALLY good. I had the etouffee once and was disappointed the place is tiny and gets cramped during busy times but is good nonetheless

Got 4 pounds of Crawfish & a dozen crabs for about 30.00 bucks. Not too shabby. The Crawfish were great. Kinda small but we're a bit out of season right now. Crabs were a little bland but very meaty. Smitty's is also a full service restaurant. I was greeted promptly with a smile and quick service. I would reccomend.

Crawfish were very large and tasty. I had a half shrimp po-boy that was kinda bland, but filled with shrimp. Raw oysters were delicious, great flavor. Service was really good.

Went to Smittys for lunch , we had 2 large shrimp po-boys and an order of fries , the shrimp were fresh and very good , my only concern is that the menu price and what they actually charge you are different , the menu says 8.95 for a large shrimp po-boy , they charged me 9.95 for a large shrimp po-boy , when i asked why , they blamed it on the oil spill ,,,anyway i recommend ,but make sure you check your bill....... I RATE SMITTY'S 4 OUT OF 5 TURDS .
