Copeland’s Of New Orleans Menu

First impression after walking in: the joint looks like a strip club. Neon lights, columns, and dimly lit....well ok, maybe more like an Applebee's or Chili's. I sit down and I ask the waitress how long she's been working there and she replies, "3 years." I'm thinking, great, she definitely will know what's good. The menu is like 15 pages long and all the pictures look great. Surprisingly, she tells me she's been eating so much of the food that she doesn't really have a favorite and they just make themselves whatever in the kitchen. I pressed her a little more and she mentioned a few really simple dishes like pasta and alfredo sauce. Hmm... not a good sign. I order: Shrimp Orleans: Shrimp over pasta with some cajun sauce. The picture in the menu shows succulent large shrimp. I get mini frozen shrimp. Very deceiving and it tasted like frozen food they microwaved. Steak Laboucherie: "Prime cut" New York strip steak cubes with rice. What I got was maybe select grade steak cubes cooked medium well and tasted reheated. The food was dismal. Everything tasted pre-prepared the previous week or it came out of the freezer already cooked. The pictures are very deceiving. There should be an asterisk by the menu that says "size will vary". The waitress was nice, but the food was dismal.

Al Copeland. The guy who started Popeye's Chicken and other restaurants. History lessons ;) Wikipedia him and read about his fight with Anne Rice. Spicy etouffee and cute waitress ;)

I eat there when I want a fancy dinner. I love the spinach and artichoke dip and usually get pasta :) The service can take long during dinner hours and some servers are not ready for it. The kitchen can tend to get backed up. The food has always been great with large portion sizes. Drinks are made perfect - a little strong! I dress nice but it isn't necessary

Great seafood with spice. The red hot potatoes is worth the trip

The group I was with decided to eat here because it was the only thing open at 9pm on a Tuesday night that wasn't Hooters or Applebees. The hostess was sweet and handled herself well when some of my people were getting silly and picky. There were still quite a few patrons and we didn't feel rushed despite the time. The one annoying thing is that our orders all came out at separate times; as mine came out first, I didn't appreciate it getting cold as I waited for everyone else's food to arrive. I ordered the feature, something shrimp orleans. It was okay, but pretty salty. Someone let me try his bbq shrimp and it was far superior to my dish. Everyone else seemed to enjoy their meals alright. The highlight of the night was easily the bananas foster cheesecake. It was sweet and creamy and loaded with plenty of whipped cream. Overall, the service and food were satisfactory and above average of the local chains and I'd totally go back, but it's not a high one on my list.

I have seen this restaurant several times. I love cajan cuisine. I decide try Shrimp Ducky with rice. Rice was overcooked. The dish was overall great (Could use more duck in dish). The service was average to above average. I will come back again. It will not be my first choice to attend for authentic cajun food.

Copelands can always be counted on for quality and service, or so I thought. I have never written a review before, but the service I received compelled me to sign up on yelp just for this reason. In fact, I'm so dissatisfied, I'm writing this while sitting in the restuarant, questioning the mystery items on my bill. The waitress (Angel) was slow, finally after taking our drink order, (I had a coffee), she walked by several times, forgetting our table completely. once she remembered the creamer for my coffee in the "bermuda triangle section" the coffee was too cold to drink, my son had been out of his drink for quite a while. Just as we thought things could not get any worse, the appetizer arrived half way through the meal, after they took that back and brought the right appetizer we settled down, although we were all out of drinks again. Things finally got better, as we finished our meal, as we were glad to be leaving. I normally love this place, and I can appreciate people have bad days. But in truth, I'm scared to come back here... so long Copelands, we're leaving to go buy drinks!

If you're looking for a nice atmosphere to have a cozy dining experience, you've arrived at the right place. The hostesses are poliet, knowledgeable, and always there with a refill or menu. Now....moving on to the food. It's a good attempt at above average fare, but falls short and is something like middle of the road wannabe papadeuxs, upscale italian, or other chain that gets it right. I ordered the baked stuffed fish with a side of mashed sweet potatoes. The sweet potatoes came to the table scalding hot and in liquid form! No lie, it looked like baby food consistency. I thought it was gravy..........umm it was served in a gravy boat....should have known. There was an unidentifiable 2nd side I suspect was sucatash.....maybe. The one good thing I can say about the dish is that the fish was cooked nicely. That's it. My boyfriend had the shrimp Alfredo travesty that came with crab cakes on top....that was a sad mishmash. The crab cakes would have been better served alone on a bed of lettuce with lemon....but it was thrown on top...out of place and floating on a sad looking sea of noodles with runny sauce and too few shrimp. I guess this place Is the best Houma,LA can offer.....but I'm not convinced.

It's been a while since my last trip to Copeland's, and I must say I was pleasantly surprised with the changes. Everything was delicious from the appetizer to the entree. My server was great and was very versed in the menu. If ever in Houma I would strongly suggest this place compared to other options for any meal. I had the catfish Acadiana for an entree and of course the spinach and artichoke dip for an appetizer.

I came in knowing I wanted steak, I would return, but was not as excellent as previously ordered... Something was just a little off

Wow, what a difference location makes. The S/O was in Houma for business and we went out to eat at this Location because it was convenient. What is wrong with the Covington Copeland's? Compared to here it was a completely different experience. The restaurant itself was cleaner and more inviting. The food tasted fresh and was defiantly prepared better. The staff was friendly and make the dining experience better. We had the same appetizers as last time. Stuffed Mushrooms and The Artichoke dip. Excellent, hot and bubbly Artichoke dip...and that fried Pasta with Parm. cheese on top, delicious. The mushrooms were fried to perfection. As an Entree I had the "CRABCAKES AND SHRIMP ALFREDO". Pretty good, the cakes were fried perfectly and complimented the Shrimp Pasta sauce well. All and all a good meal.

Copeland's of Houma gets a little worse each time I visit. I am not a healthy eater. My palate steers toward salty and fatty. And yet I find the food at Copeland's to be way too salty, greasy, fatty, overseasoned, etc. to be appealing. With lots of other options all around, there's really no good reason to eat here without a major menu overhaul.

The service is ok, why I got sat next to a two year olds birthday party when the restaurant was 3/4 empty is a mystery. I ordered the crawfish pasta after being told they were out of my first choice. The pasta was not fresh and the sauce came from a jar. The meal was salty and at the same time bland. Try the burger joint next door.

Great service! Very attentive and quick food delivery. Not gourmet food, but we knew that going in. Good for what they have. They offer a fairly wide selection for most people. Would definitely go back.

If it wasn't for the excellent wait staff and the delicious biscuits I would never eat here again. The "seafood" always tastes like it's been in a warm refrigerator for months. I ordered the Shrimp Ducky and while the sauce was good, it was coated in salt (as is all of their food) and it just tasted old. For the price and reputation it really should be better.

Last time I ate there, I ordered a steak. They brought it to me literally swimming in grease. Second try, steak was over cooked and tons of grizzle. I did have an eggplant/pasta dish that wash very good, but food is VERY INCONSISTENT.

Wait staff OK... fish was ok but I had two very large scales on my fish. Creamed spinach was good. Garlic butter was gross. Eggplant and mushrooms had no salt. My wife got a salad that consisted of 5 prices of apple and a dusting of blue cheese she had to ask for extra onside. Drinks were never refilled except by request. Overall not worth it at all. Just heard a server say "why can't they bother their own server?" How rude can a place get?

Kaylie is a great bartender! But the food leaves alot to be desired. Crab ravioli was horrid. Way too much pasta and not enough crab. It tasted like a frozen meal warmed in the microwave. Steak Laboucherie with angel hair pasta was pretty good, but I got it two different times and it's not very consistent. Ordered Al's favorite filet the last time I was there. Cooked just right and the quality of the meat was good, however, they had it floating in soooo much butter it was almost impossible to eat. Loaded with sauteed onions that you just do not need with a good filet. Desserts were great, good plain cheesecake, and great banana foster's cheesecake. Bread pudding was good, too.

Lots of variety on the menu. Very spicy food, which is why I liked it so much. I had the shrimp ducky...TO-DIE-FOR!

Great sandwich at a good price. Got the shrimp Po-boy and it was just right. They would have got 5 stars but they won't do a half and half Po-boy. That's a half shrimp and half oyster. Other than that it was very good. They have some excellent meals too. The wait staff is great too. Try them if your around here. You'll be glad you did.

Its a shame to say this place's day in the sun is long gone. I stopped going after being disappointed too many times in a row with inconsistancy and salty food. Its waaaaay past time to update the restaurant and menu. BUT I can say the strawberry cheesecake napoleon is the shizz. Which is why they get 2 and not 1 star.

This was my first time to a Copelands since I was a pre-teen or teenager and I have to say I was nothing but disappointed! The decor is like a disappointing Applebee's with table cloths. The service was awful: our waiter forgot our appetizers and took quite a while to serve our food and re-fill our water. It took way too long conserving it was 8pm on a Sunday night and the place was dead! no excuse for bad service and slow food. The food was even worse: The jumbalaya pasta looked like a doctored up chef-boy-r-dee and tasted like dog food out of a can. The steak and rice (?) looked awful and the fried oysters with mustard sauce (?) was disgusting. The shrimp creole (what I ordered) WAS palatable, but couldn't make up for everything else at the table. I don't think I've ever written such a nasty review, but it was so bad.

Overall (2) - Food was the most important part, and was not from scratch (or at least tasted this way), and since it was overpriced, it made me wish I went to the rally's next door.

The food tasted like it was frozen and was cold when it came out. We ordered the Crawfish bread for and app and that was just ok. For out meal I ordered the crab cake pasta witch was so watery it was more like a soup witch made the crab cakes mushy.

Does this place even have factual Management? If it does, Management does not remember the last time they actually cleaned up around the outside. Cigarette butts in all the rundown landscaping & all over the sidewalk. Empty beer bottles & cups sitting around the exterior & in the parking lot. Underneath the chairs at the entrance, were big, easily visible cobwebs on the legs which didn't happen overnight or in the last several days. All this was still the same 2 days later when we checked out of the hotel next door. Filthy floor in the entrance -- ever heard of a mop? Dirtiest carpet I've seen in a restaurant on the steps up to the bar area. Sticky bar top with glass rings, & little pieces of trash that should be wiped off after every single guest. And what about employee staffing? They were EVERYWHERE. May be twice as many employees than good Management would actually need to service this size facility. A group of 5-6 in the back watching football on the TV by the kitchen. 4-5 in the other corner of the bar watching TV. 4-5 by the hostess stand visiting like they had nothing else to do. Yet they were doing NOTHING. ZERO. Like they were totally blind to the dumpy condition of the facility inside or out. We ordered small happy hour servings at the bar, but they were way over-priced ($6-9++) for very TINY servings. However, the taste was good & we enjoyed them, but wouldn't return. My guess is the place does have fairly decent food which is what keeps them open, regardless of the total lack of attention to detail.
