High Blood Pressure at Applebee's

Most of the foods served at Applebee's restaurants are high in sodium. Unless you are visiting the restaurant or dining here in the group, there are hardly any options from the main meals if you wish to keep your blood pressure in check. You can rely on a few salad options though. If lucky, you may find low-sodium ribs as well at the restaurant.

Foods to Avoid at Applebee's for High Blood Pressure

Avoid Green Goddess Wedge at Applebee's. Broccoli Cheese Soup and French Onion Soup contain over 1000mg sodium and hence must be skipped as well. Skip all the chicken dishes and seafood at Applebee's except Grilled Chicken Breast and Baked Haddock without sides respectively. You must also skip Brunch Burger, Quesadilla Burger, Triple Bacon Burger, and Whiskey Bacon Burger at Applebee's. High sodium intake can be lethal for a high blood pressure candidate. Avoid ordering foods that contain over 1000mg sodium at Applebee's, especially if you're dining alone.

High Cholesterol at Applebee's

Well, steaks and ribs go hand in hand with cholesterol. Being their signature dish, it will be a challenge to find low-calorie, healthy food for those concerned with their cholesterol levels. However, you can always opt for their salads and other light foods to keep the cholesterol in check.

Foods to Avoid at Applebee's for High Cholesterol

If you have high cholesterol, then you must avoid eating sandwiches, wraps, and tacos at Applebee's. While the salads and soups sound healthy, you must skip the Fiesta Chopped Salad and Loaded Potato Soup at Applebee's. It is also advised to dodge the Three Cheese Chicken Penne and Chicken Fajita Rollup. Any main meal with over 100mg cholesterol is not idle for someone with high cholesterol. Ok, it's a chain restaurant so I'd feel funny giving it more than three stars. But let me tell you, this isn't your Grandma's Applebee's! They have Weight Watchers points listed which is convenient for me since I'm on Weight Watchers. Plus they have a separate section in their menu for meals that are under 550 calories! My friend was treating me for my birthday and we both ordered from the under 550 calorie menu. My friend ordered a chicken dish with vegetables (wish I remembered the name of it but I took a picture) and it was really juicy (she let me try a bite!). It was so impressive that a lady at the next table asked us the name of the dish! Meanwhile I ordered the steak and shrimp with veggies and it was delicious! Who knew Applebee's was stepping up their game? Apparently when I'm in a crunch and want to eat where my points are calculated and have healthy options I'm going to out Applebee's in my rotation! Plus it's close to my favorite movie theater in Elmwood which is convenient! Plus our server, I think her name was Annette, was attentive but not overbearing. A great experience! Geaux Applebee's!

It's Applebee's. There's not much else to say. The service wasn't that great, and the restaurant was SO loud. There were kids screaming at pretty much every table around us. Probably won't go back to this location because of the noise.

I used to frequent this location but quit after several instances of the unprofessional staff openly cursing in front of customers, like myself. I thought I'd give them another try to see if maybe there had been some turnover in the staff and there had been but apparently they must just hire unprofessional staff. I sat at the bar, across from a couple enjoying a drink and some appetizers. As I was waiting on my order, the couple's entrées arrived and about 5 minutes later, mine arrived. The couple finished and asked the bartender to cash them out so she gave them their check. They paid using a card but left a cash tip which apparently the bartender didn't think was sufficient because she bitched about it RIGHT IN FRONT OF ME. Needless to say, because of her unprofessionalism, she didn't get a very good tip from me so I'm pretty sure she bitched about me when I left but I could care less. If you want to be tipped appropriately, then act appropriately in front of your customers.

I ate a grilled chicken salad here yesterday for lunch, which resulted in food poisoning. I hadn't eaten at an Applebee's in several years, and only did so because I was given a gift card for here. Definitely the worst gift I've received. Won't be back, and am throwing away the gift card that still has a balance.

Just stopped in for lunch. Waitress hurried us along from the first second she made it to table. Ordered drinks and appetizer very quickly. Appetizer came quickly, we were maybe 2 bites in when she came to take order for entrée. When entrées arrived she brought one more refill for each of us then layed the check down and told us thanks. We had literally taken 3 bites. She didnt offer any more service of any kind until she asked if we needed boxes to go. Really?!?!? No desserts or drinks were offered. Come on! We were in and out in 45 min. Not really how i wanted it to go but she left no choice. Food is average and service is too rushed. Also the entire time we were there we hax to over hear a couple talking to the manager about how bad the service was. Wow! Good luck at this place!

the worst place i have ever eaten in my life.....since when is a med rare steak completely rare to the point its not cooked and mashed potato and broccli were cold and they refilled the Sprite with a water. Please Kitchen Nightmare needs to visit this place and either give the wannabe chef a crash course on how to cook a steak or show the manager how to handle his BOH. I was so disgusted with my uncooked steak and cold food that i had to walk out letting the manager know there was nothing that could be done to fix the most unpleasant meal i felt like throwing up when i left.. do not eat at this Applebees

Just like any other typical chain restaurant. I only come here because they offer the two for $20, which comes with one appetizer and two entrees for a low price. The only food I ever eat there is the spinach dip and the oriental chicken salad. Once in a while I do indulge in their molten chocolate cake, but I don't know if it's worth feeling like you're about to get a blood clot. Other items I've tried are just not that good. If it weren't for their generous portion of spinach dip, my love for that one salad, and the fact they open late, apple bee's would hae definitely gotten a 2 star rating. This location has recently renovated, and though it looks a little better, nothing else has improved. The service is very lacking and they tend to be unattentive at best. Apple Bee's is your typical chain restaurant so I guess I can't blame them too much.

Eating good in the neighborhood. Yep I like this applebee's it is one of the few restaurants that always stays consistent. I have been here a number of times love the mix drinks here! Great friendly staff, its close to the house also. I only have a few complaints one is the fact that parking is hard to find. Sometimes on a few busy nights i had to wait a little while on my food. But overall I still think this place is a classic!

Food I would put at 5 stars. Its the service that was terrible. We were here over an hour and were seated 5 minutes after arrived. We were seated at a 6 top bar table. For two people... It took forever to get our drinks. Our waitress forgot to put in our appetizers and forgot to bring us water. None of our food was brought out by our waitress, but other staff. We asked the other staff for items they never came back with. Our plates were cleared and we sat for 10 minutes with empty drinks in front of us before our waitress even acknowledged us. Took another 10 minutes to get the check. If I came back to this location it would be for a to go order.

  • Lace M.

We went to there for a bite to eat after swimming. The service was horrible. Dirty silverware, our waiter was NEVER around, half of our food took over an hour to come out, we ordered 3 appetizers .....they brought them out with no side plates....we ate off napkins, no one gave us drink refills, We ordered an alcohol drink and the waiter said they don't make those anymore......after an hour later when our food finally came we asked the manager about it........guess what.....they do make it.....and he made us one on the house, after we ate...we sat there for 15 minutes waiting on a dessert menu that we finally had to call the manager to get it, we were left at the table until we just finally walked to the bar to pay for our food. I gave the water $15 in cash and told him to put the rest on my card. Got the bill and noticed.....he took the $15 for a tip and put the entire meal on my card. The manager was awesome and helped us out as best as he could (which is why I gave them 2 stars and not 1) but the service overall was AWFUL!!

I never was much of an Applebees fan, but we go the often because its close to home and my granddaughters like it. This evening I went with 6 adults. One ordered a salad, no problem. One ordered a steak had to send it back because she couldn't cut it. The second steak was not much better, so she doggie bagged it for her pup! The remaining 4 of us ordered appertizers . They have a deal 2 for $9 3for $12 or $3 for each additional up to five.. My husband and I got 5 apps , our bill was $44+, our friends got 4 apps, their bill was $38+. We complained to mgr, he said we got full sized apps., That's not what we ordered and we didn't know they were "full sized" when we received them. Fool me once!! A $44 lesson learned and 6 less customers for Applebees!

Meh. Been here a few times. Their Green Goddess Wedge Salad is my favorite!! First time I ever got the Blacked Tilapia is was amazing and the 2x since (today included) it was BLAND BLAND BLAND! Today they got my order wrong, said they were fixing it in the kitchen, and then just never came back with the veggies I was supposed to get'. Asked for a TV to be changed to the golf tournament and that never happen either. Strange that the service sucks since I always see managers present (GM's too). If I go back it will only be for the salad.

    (2)
  • Milene I.

Seriously, I understand it is hot in the south but the temperature inside the restaurant was that of a freezer. When i asked about the temperature, I was told only the GM had access to the thermostat.. So it's blazing hot outside and I need a jacket and ear muffs to eat in this place. The food isn't anything special, being a chain and all, but I would have rated higher if I didn't have to bring layers of clothes to eat here

Yes, it's Applebees. Yes, it's a chain. But it's my guilty pleasure, and I stand by the Triple Chocolate Meltdown when I say it's the best dessert in the world. You can't expect the world when you eat at Applebees, but the service was really subpar. Drink orders took forever to place. An appetizer sampler came quickly, but with no plates - even after repeated asking. Then, the kitchen lost our entree order. A manager came by to apologize, but more as a formality with no sincerity. My friend and I watched table after table receive their food, even though we notified the manager and our waiter that we had not received our meal. When it did come out, it wasn't exactly right, but by then my friend and I were so hungry that we decided just to let it go. Our Applebee's trip took almost 2 and a half hours. Nothing was comped, and the manager really made absolutely no effort to make it right. But the food is still a guilty pleasure.

Went for drinks. $2.99 Bahama Mama $2.50 PBR tall boy. Sat at bar. Service from bartender slow (not busy), unconcerned & unfriendly. Didn't order food this visit.

  • Pete D.

OK... Not much to say here other than I wanted to go somewhere that i knew would have something for my little boy. They had a large variety of items to choose from so we went with grilled cheese and strawberries. He did eat most of it and I got an app ( potato chips that you can dip in a cheese sauce) and a hamburger. It was an interesting spin. Food was ok but I gave this particular location two stars because of the customer service. Trying to keep a 20 month old still after eating is a little difficult. I also paid the bill when I got my refill of tea, but I didn't understand why it would take long to get change after food was picked up. Unfortunately the person who waited on us didn't seem to be that eager or happy to be there. Oh well...

NEVER GOING BACK! Our server was named Shawn. He was very friendly, but one of the worst servers I have ever encountered. He took our order and I didn't see him again till I had to search for him for an ice tea refill. I had to ask another server to bring fresh french fries, mine were ice cold. The onions for my burger were very limp and not fresh at all. When I did get my ice tea refill I didn't have even one piece of ice in my glass. I could have gotten a better meal at Burger King! Sub Standard food and terrible service.

  • Restaurant L.

This particular location is absolutely appauling. I love applebees, speciffically their fiesta chicken. But do yourself a favor and stay away from this location. Why you ask? Keep Reading I have been there twice. The first time the service was extremely poor and slow, the food was cold and just not up to standard but i work in the area so i gave it another shot BIG MISTAKE I went with a group of friends and we ordered. Server was friendly enough, slow but apologetic because they were short handed. No problem. Understandable.Everyone who worked there was obviously flustered and stressed. All of a sudden this woman starts screaming in the dining area because apparently the to-go girl "rolled her eyes" at her and began to make a huge fuss. She started to scream even more making a huge disruption and the manager just stood there, by the bar area, frozen as if he didnt know what to do. THEN she started insulting him because he wouldnt do anything. If that isnt bad enough, the manager was by the registering right behind our table and started complain about the staff to one of the cooks. LOUDLY. In fact i believe the quote was " i'm about to fire every single person in that kitchen." Really professional Mr. Manager. I am in the middle of this circus you call a restaurant and YOU are the least professional of them all. THEN, we finally get our food. Cold, of course. My husband ordered the three cheese chicken penne.. They FAILED to tell us that almost everything that comes with the pasta, they do not have. We only figured it out when we re-looked at the menu and noticed that everything was wrong. EVEN THE TYPE OF PASTA NOODLES WERE WRONG!!! No tomatos, Just chicken, sauce and the wrong noodles. It was disgusting. WHY WOULD YOU SERVE THAT NICE AND FRIENDLY WAITER!!! So we complained to Mr. Professional. He not only complained to our table about all the stuff that was going wrong, he didnt do anything for us. Didnt comp the meal, didnt take it back. Nothing. OH, because i work at a hotel, I redirect all of my guests to anywhere else in the area but this restaurant. All of front desk agents and managers agree and do the same. This place is terrible and we have all had bad experiences at this location. Moral of the story, just go to the veterans location

  • Cyn B.

I truly dislike posting bad reviews but isn't that what Yelping is about... being honest. The commercial says "Eating good in the neighborhood" guess that depends upon the neighborhood. I went here with a date to grab a bite before seeing the midnight showing of the Hobbit. BAD IDEA!!!!! Now I remember why I'm a food snob and stay away for chain places such as this. Worst meal of my life... no kidding. Read on and see why... ***If you have a weak stomach or actually like this place don't continue to read*** We decided to do the two for $20.00 which everyone has seen advertised. First thing the spinach and artichoke dip. My cat could make better. The dip was dsigustingly oily and of course was mostly cheese or some man-made version of cheese rather. Also, where were the vegetables??? We were reading a script my date had been given just before our date. Our attention was divided between reading and eating. After about 5 minutes oof not dipping the dip started hardening. It would break the chips unless you happened to picked up one of the stale chips. If you were the lucky winner of a stale chip it was so hard it could actually handle the hardening of the dip. Blahhh Finally!!! my cocktail came. I ordered some "fancy" version of a margarita. It was extremely salty. Waaaaaay too salty. Did I mention it was salty? While my date was in the restroom I discovered why it was this way. Are you ready? I could not believe this... it had a GREEN OLIVE in the bottom. Maj GROSS!!!!! I tought the bartender made a mistake while "creating" my cocktial. I stopped the waitress who by the way thought we were students studying. That's a joke, right? I asked her about the olive and she said, "That's our signature. We put green, olives in our drinks." I was stunned. Really? YOu serve a cocktail garnished with a lime AND a green olive. Well, they are both green. Better yet, this is what you're known for? The person who came up with this should be fired!!!!! The people who agreed should be fired. Anyone working for them who didn't step up and say something should be fired. Is this their answer to the cocktail craze? Put a green olive in it. My date sent a tweet asking about this olive thing hash tagging Applebee's so they would see it. **Just like posting bad reviews, very rarely do I complain at a food establishment, but if they don't know about it then nothing will be done. They will keep doing the same horendous things.** Then it go worse. They brought me my meal. The rim of the plate was caked with a previous meal(s). I mean I could scratch chuncks off with my nail caked. *shutter* You can't see it on my pic but it's there. Now I know why they keep the lights so dim. They don't want you to see their shortcomings. For some reason I blew that off and took a bite of everything. The stake was actually good. The potatoes were good. The broccoli... ughhh... tasted like they were cooked in my dates used shrimp water. I stopped there. Told the waitress. She offered me a replacement plate. Not just no but HELL no. She acted like this wasn't any big deal. I asked for the manager. He offered me another cocktail WITHOUT the olive. I agreed to that but no more food for this chica. While waiting for the cocktail, my date noticed a blowup pic of my drink WITH an olive in it. They are so proud of this idea they put it on the wall larger then life. This escapes me. I ended up taking the last few bits of my dates dish which was actually decent. Thank goodness I got some food in me bc I wouldn't be home until around 3:30am. When the check came they had taken off my portion. I didn't even ask them to do this. Very good of them!!! Two thumbs up for that. Later on while waiting for the Hobbit to begin via text messages I found out that people call them Crapplebee's. I won't be going back. This is a perfcet example of why I don't venture outside of NOLA especially to eat. Granted not everywhere in NOLA is perfect but never have I had this happen to me before in NOLA. I have no problem saying this either.

Our second time at this location and it was a better experience. Although requesting a booth at shift change seems to be too difficult a task for them. Lol. But anyway the server we had was good and our food was yummy and it came out pretty quickly! The same w the dessert. The blondie is delicious and a must- try for everyone!

It was just not a very good not at all.... We sat at the bar ... ordered simple drinks ... the wait for drink was lengthy... We did manage to order appetizer ... that come out to us eventually, we got that big sampler... It was just an average plate of food ... We ordered the steak n shrimp parmasean plate and chicen n 3 cheese pasta ... nothing complicated .. It took for ever for our food to come out and when I did the food was cold ... not even warm .... The service was bad as well, it appeared that got slammed with graduation patrons in large volumes ... staff were short winded and complaining about anything and everything ... from splitting checks to food not coming out in a timely manner to trying to catch up with preps and normal stocking up ... What a difference a location can make ... I just raved about the Covington location .... Jeez, I was only visiting there... Please don't tell me I have to drive to Covington to enjoy an Applebee's

If possible I would rate this place with no stars. I walked in this evening to have dinner with my father and the manager was playing hostess. That should have been my first sign to leave. After we walked in 3 teenagers walked in and were greeted before we were. I said to my dad I wanted to leave and the manager said to me oh but it will be only five min wait. I'm sorry sir but I saw you look at me and ignore me before you saw money walking out if the door. I will NEVER eat at this chain again. I'm in restaurant management myself and good customer service is very important.

Service isn't the greatest dining in, however my wife loves the motzarella stcks and I love the oriental chicken salad! We order carside to go all the time, its very convienent.

I have visited this Applebees on several different occasions and they consistently prove to be the WORST Applebees in the area. The service/seating times are fast, but the food is consistently bad! They are always out of something or this item is not offered, blah, blah, blah!!!! I mean seriously it's an Applebees, a chain restaurant. smh!

  • Ashley Y.

Applebee's USED TO BE good until I visited this location. The server was nice. I trusted him until we waited for a good hour for our entrees. I just don't know. My entree looked decent. But wait! I felt like I took a bite into a piece of ice! It was so dang cold. My date's steak wasn't all that either. Just saying. Even after waiting for our entrees, we had to wait for the sauce for the steak! It was horrible. We did not even finish at least half of our portions. The table behind us that came AFTER us got all of their food before we did! We asked for the check and STILL had to wait. This is not the place to be unless you are okay with being highly disappointed.

Whenever I find something on the menu that I like it is gone a month later and replace by more items to get in your "trio." Lack luster food, horrible beer selection, and more calories than you can count, all sacrificed for "consistency"

About Applebee's

Applebee is an American full-service restaurant brand popularly known for its signature Riblets. Applebee was conceptualized in 1980 by Bill and TJ Palmer in Atlanta, Georgia. At first, the restaurant was named T.J. Applebee's RX for Edibles and Elixirs. After the concept was acquired by W.R. Grace and Company, the restaurant was renamed as Applebee's Neighborhood Grill & Bar. Later the company and the Applebee's concept changed hands with Abe Gustin and John Hamra who started the first Applebee's franchise restaurant in Kansas City.

Later in 2007, IHOP Corp. now known as DineEquity, Inc. acquired Applebee's and began their journey together to make Applebee's the world's largest full-service restaurant chain. Today, Applebee's serves at more than 1,830 locations worldwide. The Applebee's menu ranges from Appetizers and Salads to heavy meals consisting of ribs and steak. Although the trademark dish Riblets is a hot favorite among regular Applebee's dwellers, the restaurant also serves some amazing burgers, sandwiches, pasta, and salads.
