If at some point on this crazy roller coaster ride we call life you happen to find yourself in the town of Coushatta, Louisiana, you're probably asking yourself one (or both) of the following two questions: 1. Why the heck am I here? 2. Where can I eat besides Burger King, Dairy Queen, that scary-looking Mexican restaurant, and that greasy-looking fried chicken joint? Unfortunately, you are the only one who can answer the first of those two questions. It probably means you need to rethink a few of the life choices you've made. But that's more of a personal problem, and therefore outside the scope of this review. I can't really help you there. I CAN, however, tell you that the answer to the second question is: "That dubious-looking burger joint over there". Which would be this place, Kayla's Cafe (or, as I seem to remember it, Kayla's Kafe. I could be wrong though). When you walk through the front door you will see right away that decorating doesn't rank highly on the owner's list of priorities. Aging linoleum floors, rickety tables and sticky ketchup bottles are the main focal points. But fortunately, the cooks at Kayla's can flip a pretty decent bacon cheeseburger (definitely way better than your other option, which is a Whopper). If you can manage to ignore the flies buzzing around your food, you may even enjoy eating it. Oh yeah, and the cajun fries are pretty freakin' awesome. You can also get po' boys and other kinds of sandwiches, if they strike your fancy, but the cheeseburgers were my favorite. Sometimes I almost even kind of miss them, in the way a former abductee and recovering Stockholm syndrome sufferer sometimes almost kind of misses their former captor.
