Absolutely awful. I'm from Texas and knew not to get to excited about the Mexican food scene here but I had high hopes for the small hole in the wall restaurant. It was absolutely awful and I would never go back! I got fajita nachos, how do you screw up fajita nachos?! A plate of chips with very little cheese and store bought fajita meat. The large plate was 9.99 and I ate two chips off the entire plate. My four year old finished the plate by himself, $9.99 for a plate of nachos my four year old can eat? I don't think so!

Expensive, poor quality food. I wasn't expecting authentic mexican, but at least some decent tex-mex. Nachos are chips with kraft cheese and pickled jalapenos. That's it. It's like what a college kid makes in his dorm microwave. The enchiladas were like what they serve in an elementary school cafeteria. I specifically said I didn't want any beef, and they failed to mention the refried beans are made with ground beef mixed in. Bathrooms are gross, to boot. Beer is cold, and the TVs are decent, but there are a dozen better places to watch a game. I'm not going back to Julia's. Ever.

We are visiting Alexandria for an art show at River Oaks and so, wondering around finding places to eat a lot. We came across Julia's trying to navigate to somwhere else, but I'm really happy we did cause it was a very nice meal. I had the Shrimp taco salad which was fresh, delisious and huge, my husband had the chicken anchilada and beef taco combo, which was also huge, he liked it a lot. They have many flavors of margaritas, which we didn't try, but looked pretty good. We also had 2 bowls of awesome fresh chips and salsa and an order of guacamole which was OK but not as fresh as I would want it to be. Very nice service, friendly without being overbaring. Very cool spot overall.

Nachos was just melted cheese on a chip, chicken in the chicken enchiladas was cold, and the fajita chicken was half burnt Not coming back. Waiter didn't even ask us if we liked our meal.

Staff was friendly and attentive. Food was gross; sauces from the can (salty, runny brothy stuff). American cheese on the nachos (appears to be melted slices of cheese - gross). The food was edible, but on a peer level with what your teen would throw together after basketball practice and no parental supervision. Will never eat here again.

Not very authentic. Queso is not good. However, they do have good live music on Wednesday night.

Yuck!! Don't bother going here. First clue that should've tipped me off was the fact that all the workers were White. Everything comes from a can. Chicken gravy replaces enchilada sauce or queso. Even the margaritas served from beer mugs taste like a cheap mix.

So once again, I'm going to have to trash a CenLA mexican restaurant. An immediate indication of what you're to expect of a Mexican restaurant is what their complimentary salsa tastes like. Much like El Reparo, the salsa tastes like, and has the consistency of canned tomato paste here. I don't get it, why does the majority of Mexican themed restaurants here serve salsa that tastes like canned tomato paste? It's crazy... I ordered some beef tacos, and unsurprisingly they're the usual "American taco" style with ground beef, lettuce, and cheese. I don't think they offered carne asada tacos, because I would've ordered them if I saw them on the menu. They were decent tasting for what they were, but you have to understand that tacos of this style aren't real mexican fare. It's become crystal clear that people in CenLa have no idea what mexican food is supposed to taste like.

LOVE LOVE LOVE this place! From the salsa & warm chips to the Shrimp Fajitas with their delicious caramelized onions & awesome refried beans & frosty 2 for 1 margaritas to top it off!! I could (and usually do) eat here at LEAST once a week! Everyone needs some Julias in their life!!

Absolutely love Julia's! Not only is the service like being at my own grandmothers house, but the food is hands down my favorite Mexican ever. I never fail with the steak fajitas and taco salad. 2 for one beers always come In frosty mugs and I hear the margaritas are top notch, I can stomach tequila so I cant attest for those. :)

Very bland food for a Mexican restaurant! Had the beef enchiladas, rice and refried beans and seriously, they all had no flavor at all. Very disappointing for a Mexican place where you expect a lot of flavor and possibly a little heat! I don't think basics like salt or pepper added never mind any other seasoning. Portions good size and margaritas decent but that's about it. Oh, bathrooms are gross!

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
