I am still not sure why all the bad reviews are here. I can tell you that personally my experience was the opposite of most. The server has been attentive. I have yet to have to ask for a tea refill....she brings them well before I need one. I ordered the black & Bleu sirloin and it was cooked perfectly. Red smashed potatoes on the side was good too! The rolls are melt in your mouth! Managers are attentive as well. They have both stopped by to check on my experience. I'd have given 5 stars, but cleanliness didn't measure up. Maybe next time! ;)

On a rainy night, 600 miles from home.... I was looking for a good, hot meal. I found it. I ordered the black and blue sirloin, rare, and it was really good. Sweet potato side was really nice. And the salad bar was as good as promised! A local recommended Cattleman's Roadhouse and was correct about the food. But the service, or lack thereof, was really disappointing. So slow, and it wasn't a busy night. The waiter was a really sweet guy but not attentive by any stretch. To bad since I'm normally a notorious over-tipper.

Three stars is about right. This is what you expect from a chain steakhouse. They are usually pretty consistent. Usually hit temperatures just right. This was my first visit and it was fine. I had a country fried steak lunch special and it was fine. The portion was good for 6.99. Usually you get a pounded monstrosity that hangs off the plate slathered in white gravy. You feel compelled to eat it because it's deep fried steak, and then afterwards you need to freebase some lipator. This was about a 6 oz steak. The gf got the salad bar and a cup of soup. This seemed a little pricey at 10.49. If they had shaved truffles and iberico ham I could understand, but it was a pretty standard salad bar. A lot of fruits, which is a plus. Shelbyville does not seem to have a lot of dining options. The downtown just screams out for some cafés. It would be the ideal setting. A little bit like Midway would be nice.

Not sure why this place is averaging only 3 stars. Service has always been good and so has the food. Place stays clean and atmosphere is relaxed. The bar are is the best place to sit. Its away from families and large groups. The only improvement needed is maybe a better variety at the salad bar.

I had a nice lunch with my daughter but somehow it just wasn't the 5 star lunch that I had experienced in years past. The restaurant was busy but still had plenty of space for more patrons. It took quite a while for someone to notice we were waiting to be seated. After being seated and ordering two salad bars and two ice teas it took quite a while to receive our drinks. It took even longer to receive our warm yeast rolls and butter. (I had to ask the waitress for them and we were close to being finished with our eating.) The salad bar was excellant as in years past. Lots of variety, fresh vegetables, clean set-up. So to sum it up Food is still 5 stars but service has slipped to 3 stars. Lunch and drinks for two came to $25. I'll be back again but will try to come earlier and beat the noon rush.

After taking a detour from Louisville KY to Elizabethtown KY the hubs and I stumbled upon Cattlemans...and we were hungry! It started off with the seemingly non existsnt hostess who finally graced us with her presence after about an 8-10 minute wait. We finally got seated and was promptly greeted by our server. I thought ok it was just the hostess; but that thought was short lived. Our server was not knowledgeable about the alcohol at the bar or any other question we asked. All requests made by my husband fell on deaf ears causing my husband to get upset, and me to have to flag the server down and ask once again. We ordered and our first set of rolls came out and our appetizers, and they are were fantastic. We ordered the salad bar, porterhouse and ribeye steaks with baked potatoes all of which was amazing! The cooks need some props because they know their way around a kitchen. The steaks were awesome...melt in your mouth, and the portions were huge! I can't believe that food like that can come from the same place as such poor service. Getting back to that we finished our meal and wanted to place a to go order, none of our plates or glasses had been cleared at this point. The server takes the to go order and then asked us to stack up all those dishes and make it easier for him....yes he did! My mouth hit the floor. I stacked the dishes all of them in just a minute! I was astounded by this request. Being in the food service industry myself I do understand some things, but asking the customer to do your job is mind blowing to me. Needless to say the food and kitchen staff are awesome and the service is mediocre at best. My husband informed me that the bathroom was awful. There was poo all over the toilet and urine in the floor. Too bad the service and cleanliness take away from an awesome meal! We probably wont be back.

I went here on the recommendation from a business I was dealing with. The steak was good (nothing "spectacular" like I was expecting) but the salad bar impressed me and was my favorite part of the meal. Service was a little slow, but we weren't in a rush anyway so it didn't matter. I will give it a try next time I'm in the area.

I didn't think the food was all that great. For one thing it bothers me when I go to a steak house and they cannot cook a steak properly. From a normal restaurant I don't sweat ordering medium and ending up with medium well instead. But I consider that unacceptable from a steak house. Also they only give you one side with your steak. Typically most places will give you two so it seems like they are cheaping out.

Had a very nice meal with the folks. We were all pleased. Lots of variety. Rolls and cinnamon butter tasty and plentiful. I had BBQ chicken sandwich with steamed broccoli instead of fries. Good chicken. Great broccoli.

Went for lunch and was very pleased. They have a varied menu which is supplemented by a daily specials offering. Two of us had the sirloin special which included a baked potato and salad bar for $11. It was very good. One member of the group had the chili nachos (fair) and a salad. The salad bar was very good with many goodies to add to very fresh greens. Service was very good.

Had dinner here with my husband after he got off of National Guard drill. He ordered a full rack of baby back ribs, sweet potato, and a salad bar. I ordered Froschetta Chicken with green beans and a salad bar. Unfortunately, with a salad bar comes cross-contamination. I have a very severe allergy to eggs. So everything that had eggs in it and was near other items, I couldn't add to my salad, for fear of cross-contamination. My chicken was very bland. It was supposed to have some kind of lemon sauce on it and they just covered it with fresh tomatoes and fresh green onions on a bed of rice. I will definitely be taking the chicken home to doctor it up; because it really wasn't that great. Downside, they have no allergen menu; so I had to ask which items had eggs in it. Not many choices for me. My husband loved the cinnamon butter with the rolls (that I couldn't eat); but he said that the rolls weren't really the best. He enjoyed his sweet potato and ribs. But for $45, this wasn't the best meal ever; and I don't think we will ever be coming back. Oh and we did have an appetizer, potato skins. They were really dry and didn't really taste that great either. We had to add a lot of ketchup. Our server was very kind and always kept our drinks full. A very nice atmosphere; but for the price and the food, I don't think we will be coming back.

Very disappointing experience here. We heard good things about this place, and definitely didn't have the same experience. I ordered the sirloin and shrimp with a sweet potato. My boyfriend had the sheriff (20oz sirloin), baked potato and salad bar. The shrimp was rubbery and tasted fishy. The sirloin was tough and flavorless. The best part of my meal was the sweet potato. My boyfriend's steak was flavorless and tough. The only part he enjoyed was the salad bar (which was fresh and delicious), unfortunately we didn't go to a "steakhouse" for a salad. The service was actually very good and the manager really made you feel welcome. Too bad the food doesn't measure up. So for roughly the same price, go to Longhorns and enjoy the food and experience. (And two sides instead of one). It's bad when you wish you would have gone to steak and shake and saved the money and disappointment. Maybe we just caught it on a bad night, but for $70, it's not worth trying out again. We'll just stick with places we know are good.

I hope Cattleman's isn't going downhill, but I know my experience there sure has. My wife and I had dinner on a Sunday night. We got the two for $20 special, which is a really a good deal--especially with the salad bar. Both of us got a steak and a side of the green beans. All the food was flavorless. We ate off the salad bar and took the entrees home. At home the next evening, I was able to season the steaks and then they were quite good. I wish I could give a few cooking tips regarding seasoning and flavor to the Cattleman's chef! The most egregious insult, however, was the fact that Cattleman's has Tabasco branded sauce caddies on the tables, but there was NOT ONE bottle of Tabasco in the entire place. This is the second time I've been there, and they've had no Tabasco, in spite of the Tabasco caddies on EVERY table. The time before when I was there, the waitress told me they were expecting a shipment the next week. This was obviously a lie. If there had been Tabasco, I might've at least given three stars.
