My grandparents took me here this past year and the fried catfish is superb. It's perfectly breaded and the fish is fresh. Definitely try to the coleslaw. Unless you have a big appetite, the child size plate will fill you. This is a genuine, hole in the wall place worth going to.

This is a small-town family-owned restaurant that serves cheap small trim cuts of farm raised catfish, bottom of the barrel cheap frozen crinkle cut french fries and frozen onion rings . Mine arrived cold and soggy. The onion rings replacement has to be worst ever. Huge over cooked batter covered things with little skinny onions, but there were hot. You get cheap assembly line built onion rings with very little onion for your buck. They are not fit to eat. The cold slaw might have been freshly made. It was cold and heavily sugared. I had to squeeze lemon juice on it to make it eatable. Prices have gone up since 2012, making this a $$ eating experience. No, I would not take anyone I cared about to Harpers! Still does not accept any kind of card! Service leaves much to be desired.

We lived in Glasgow and it was a bit of a drive to get to Harpers. The first time I walked in I though oh my god, what is this place? not in a good way. The restaurant itself could use some updating but I think it just adds to the experience after a few times of going there. The food: Best catfish I have ever had in my life. Period done, end of story. The first time I ended up getting french fries and a salad (the salad bar is decent if you can get over using the wooden bowls that looked like they got a deal on at a garage sale) but every time Ive been back, I skip the fries and get a salad and all you can eat fish. I wish I could bring a doggie bag of it home! The other great thing about this place is if you order a diet pop and they bring you a can of RC cola. A can! Imagine that. Not watered down fountain drink. All in all, its a friendly, small town fish joint that has great fish and great service.

Tiny place with some of the best catfish. Ever. And they keep bringing hot piles of deliciousness as long as you can stand it. Hush puppies are tasty too.

The restaurant sits in a small town in KY and therefore the majority of customers are local. I like that as most locals know best ;) There was no wait time and staff was friendly enough. The atmosphere is family oriented but needs some updating---at least the bathroom does. My husband and I ordered catfish. I was expecting fillets but they were strips. Delicious, fresh tasting, can't get enough of strips. I am embarrassed to say that while most had boxes (the portions are big) to take home, we didn't. We rolled out of that restaurant!

You can order 1/2 and 1/2 platters, but next time I would get ALL catfish and extra hush puppies omg yum so tasty. The staff were welcoming and direct. A platter is enough to split, but instead we brought extra food home. The fish isn't overly battered, and the hush puppies were perfectly cooked. Totally worth a trip here.

We have been going to Harper's since I was a kid. Nothing beats their catfish! The last time we were there the restaurant was in need of some remodeling for sure, but it wouldn't keep us away!

Lets start with the restaurant itself. It is a run down probably roach infested building. There are holes in the floor and near some doors. If you decide to eat here I would suggest you don't take in the scenery or you may not want to stay. This place stays packed and has for years. I can not figure out why they would not do some minor updates to the building. This restaurant does offer smoking and non smoking. I'm from TN where all reputable restaurants are non smoking now so that's a bit of a surprise to walk into a cloud of smoke. The owner(s) sit at the front door I'm assuming all day since every time I go there they are parked at the same table puffing away on a cig. For a non smoking family that tends to ruin the feel of the restaurant. But we fight thru it and continue to whichever out dated wobbly table they decide to sit us at. Now onto the service. The staff has never shown signs of being friendly. They all appear to hate life and would rather be nearly anywhere else besides there. Just a few weeks ago we went to eat here. We were pointed to a table and told to sit ourselves (they were very busy, no big deal). We sat for nearly 15 minutes with several "servers" coming by and looking at us but no one wanted to say anything to us for fear of having to take another table. Finally someone came by and instead of asking if we had been helped or if they could get our drinks while they located our server we were asked who had sat us. We told them the gentleman up front (the one I assume is the owner). The "server" quickly walked off to only come back 5 minutes later with a slight attitude that we had sat here. Again we were pointed to the table and told to go seat ourselves. We were finally able to place our order (which was wrong). Now onto the food. The only thing that keeps people coming back to this terrible excuse for a restaurant. The cat fish is fried into bite sized strips. You can get it regular battered or incinerated (meaning its cooked a little longer, making it crispier). I prefer it incinerated. It is the best cat fish I have ever had. It is the sole reason I come back to this place. This strips of heaven come on a bed of tater tots and hush puppies. I'm not a big hush puppy fan but these are pretty good. You can also get a salad from the salad bar or cole sole. I have always gotten the salad as I'm a sucker for a salad bar. I hear the cole sole is great though. If the restaurant had looked like it had been cleaned anytime in the last 25 years and the staff was a little bit friendly I would have considered a 4 or even 5 star rating. Based off of only the food this place is 5 easy. Its all the others things that bring it down a few spots. Its worth a short drive up from TN to eat here. Its a gamble on what type of service and environment you are walking into. FYI they do not accept credit/debit cards. Probably the only place left that doesn't. Cash or check only.

This is the best kept secret in Kentucky. If you want the best catfish, cole slaw and hush puppies in the United States, make the trip,.......

This is a legit small-town family-owned restaurant that serves some of Southern Kentucky's most famous fried catfish. After 39 years of serving catfish, they definitely know what they're doing! While visiting my family in KY, I ate lunch here on a Saturday afternoon. This place was highly recommended by some of my mom's friends. The catfish was really good, but my favorite part was the friendly atmosphere. I felt like I was at a catfish restaurant in Mayberry. I half-expected to see Andy Griffith walk in with Opie carrying some catfish from the lake. All of us were in agreement that the catfish was good, but it wasn't quite as good as the Catfish House. Bonus points for being super cheap--$7.50 for all-you-can-eat. Seriously? That's ridiculously cheap. And that price included all-you-can-eat home fries and hushpuppies. I added a salad (trying to feel somewhat healthy!) for an extra dollar. Still cheap for an infinite amount of food. I've heard that Harper's doesn't advertise or spend money on renovations because they're solely focused on the quality of their food. Nice idea in theory, but I do think that the interior could use a makeover. Also, I could tell that they refill the glass ketchup bottles on the tables instead of replacing them. This probably isn't a very sanitary practice. Props for serving RC and having a vintage RC machine outside. I hate it when local restaurants sell out to Coca-Cola. If you're visiting here for the first time, you'll probably pass it. It's WAY off the road and down a hill so it's nearly impossible to see from the road. Look for the faded sign by a gravel road. I've posted a picture of the sign to help you find it. If you're staying in Bowling Green and want to get out into rural Kentucky to eat at a true local catfish joint, you should definitely go to Harpers. Be sure to order an RC. **Notes** -Does not accept credit cards. Cash or check only. -Closed on Monday/Tuesday. -Open at 7am for breakfast on weekends. -I'd suggest calling ahead to make sure they're open before you drive any long distance to visit.

At first look, you might find yourself questioning the quality of the restaurant. But inside, I believe you will find the best catfish of any place in the south. This small town restaurant won me over with their unlimited catfish. Not only was the catfish excellent, it was accompanied with French fries, cole slaw, and hush puppies that tied the whole meal together. All together, it was an excellent experience with FANTASTIC food and friendly service.
