Earl G. Dumplin's. First of all, the name alone is awesome. This place wins the prize for one of the strangest restaurant names ever. I love it! One of the previous reviews noted "portions are generous." This is quite an understatement. Perhaps it would be better to say that portions are ridiculously huge. I ordered the catfish platter which included enough delicious fried catfish to feed no fewer than three adults. In case that wasn't enough, the lunch also included three sides--which were, not surprisingly, exceedingly generous. Our waitress was a very nice lady who loved chatting with everyone at my table. All of the other employees seemed friendly and helpful. The interior is nothing special. In fact, I think it might be a converted fast food restaurant. Some of the chairs are falling apart, and cleanliness was teetering on the edge of being an issue. If you're passing through Scottsville, I'd recommend stopping here instead of choosing any of Scottsville's fast food joints. Support the local guys!

I had the best British style breaded cod...in a meat and three type place in rural kentucky. I mean it was like a funnel cake with fish inside served with malt vinegar. I was seriously impressed, Earl G Dumplins. I've also now twice ordered the pulled pork on cornbread and I would go back again and again for that. Both are specials, and not available every day, unfortunately. There aren't a lot of places to eat in Scottsville (that arent fast food), and if there's a must-try restaurant there, this is probably it. We send everyone here. Portions are gigantic, plus they give you yeast rolls and cornbread with it..and the prices are pretty cheap. The service is always as good as it can be, those ladies work hard - just sometimes the place is packed, so it's gonna be slow. Only reason to knock off a star, and this kind not out of the ordinary for this manner of restaurant, but it doesn't look super clean (tables are fine, but like the floor is usually sticky), and there is a pretty bad smell when you come in the front door, like every time I've gone. Not enough to dissuades me from eating there, but enough to be notable.

I would actually like to give Dumplin's 2.5 stars...it's OK... Dumplin's is fine - for what & where it is. It's a multi-purpose restaurant for a restaurant lacking town. Now, that being said - I've lived in more isolated locations that had amazing, home-cooked style food. I've been here a few times. The food & service is fine. It's okay. Lot's of fried stuff. The salad bar really needs to have a little more green than iceburg lettuce. It's 2011 - Mixed greens for everyone! {or at least Romaine} I had a Reuben recently that was tasty - but waaaaay too much sauce. Order it with sauce on the side. And if you are being somewhat health conscious - lighter on the butter on the grilled rye. I ordered sweet potato tots. Cute! But it wasn't mentioned that they would be served dusted with powdered sugar. So if you like less sweet sweet potatoes - tell them to hold the powdered sugar. My dining companion had a daily special chicken wrap. Again - waaaay too much sauce. Chicken was grilled and tasty. The tortilla/wrap needs to be heated - it was obviously straight from the package. Gigantic onion rings were good. Perfectly crispy on the outside. Hot & tender onion-y goodness on the inside. On another visit - the Chicago dogs are huge and true to an actual dog from Chicago {lived there for a number of years}. Be warned, they serve two dogs on a giant plate of waffle fries - so you can share the dish. Service has been off & on. The place is always crowded; some visits are quick, speedy & friendly - another visit was hurry up and wait. We sat at a table for 15 minutes before ANYBODY even glanced at us - I wonder why the hostess can't bring you water? Oh, keep an eye on your check. One time we ordered a special and on the board it had one price - but on the check another. The cashier suggested maybe we'd had something else? Uh, no. She didn't change our ticket or suggest a manager change our ticket. Whatever, it was a difference of 20cents...but hey, in this economy 20 cents is 20 cents!

Best in Scottsville for sure. Good veggies. Good service.

Great value for the $. Portions are generous, a good meat-and-three kind of place. Lots of items on the menu, including a quirky brand of root beer that's a little too sweet for my taste, but I'm all for offering the offbeat. This place is immensely popular with locals, which can make service slow at busy times, but is, IMHO, the best eats in town.

Our return trip to here, from Bowling Green, was well worth the trip. The dining area has been expanded, with a clean, comfortable selection of seating. Our servers were "TOPS,"and we were quite happy with them. Our catfish was great, as were our veggies. The veggies were fresh prepared, & not just warmed up, frozen or canned. We'll make more trips to Scottsville.

Three workers looked at us walking right by while waiting to be seated. Finally we were seated by someone who looked like a patron. We are still waiting for our drink order ten minutes after being seated while people are placing their orders as they are walking to be seated. It is not busy either. Ants crawling on the table!
