I had been looking for a nice place to have lunch after a radio session at WNKU and I wanted to surprise my comrades with a real good one, seeing as we'd gotten up super early just so I could be on the radio yet again, doing my thing as I tend to do. I was fiddling with my Yelp app while we were criss-crossing Eastern and Central time zones in our typical careless fashion when York Street Cafe somehow caught my attention. Later when I asked the good people at WNKU where to lunch they immediately suggested York Street Cafe. Say no more. We were already there. A delightful romp of a place, decor-wise. We found a table by the window, in the shadow of a mannequin minding her own business. Still, she frightened me with her sultry looks and frozen posture (picture attached). I wouldn't let this diminish my lunch experience, however, and our waiter was in good spirits so we tore the menu a new one and ordered. Our very own Kishi Bashi was craving heritage-food of the pan-Asian sortiment and refused to dine with us. Fine. Whatever. Herremannen and Giancarla ordered the veggie-burger and were pleased as pie. "How do they get it so crispy?" "It almost tastes like the real thing!" Such were the many complimentary comments that flew out of their cute, tiny little mouths as they ate up those burgers with glee and hunger. Always the wise-ass, I craved the real thing and ordered a non-veggie-burger. As such, I did not have to point out that it tasted like the real thing. It was real, indeed - very non-snobbish and charming. The mannequin behind me might not have approved of such folksy fare, but I am a man of the people and beg to differ. Shut your pie-hole, mannequin! You freak me out!!! We also enjoyed salads and soups like there was no tomorrow. Inspired by Giancarla's alfalfa-sprouts, Herremannen opted for a side of said sprouts, a wish our kind waiter gladly granted. Herremannen then went on to put the alfalfa-goodness (never heard of alfalfa-sprouts btw. Could be these two veggie-dogs are just making this up. I drift in and out of any conversation so it's hard for me to say for certain) on his veggie-burger, to reportedly magical effect. So happy was our dear Herremann that he got up from his chair and recited three sheets of history about Southgate House - printed out by our gracious hosts after we requested folklore related to the unusual rock club venue where we were to perform that night - with the enthusiasm, wit and thirst for knowledge typical of a true scholar and thespian. We delighted in his performance and ordered deserts. My first-ever strawberry shortcake. It was rich yet light. In a word or two, it was delicious and somehow not filling. Perfect for when your showbiz-life is getting all up in your grill. You know what I'm talking about. And so the good vibes and tone were all set for us to do our thing at Southgate House. The sound there is terrific. As was the personel and we went on to have a great concert. I even got to wear the new USA leather jacket that I had purchased that day at a beautiful store right around the corner from York Street Cafe, the Razzle Dazzle Butique. A bargain and only fitting. After all, it was Flag Day. You're welcome, America. - SL

Catch of the Day was walleye, and it was excellent! My wife had the Aisian Ribs and they were great too. Highly recommended. And off course the atmosphere is awesome.

Excellent, eclectic restaurant with food that doesn't disappoint. We got to try the new fall menu and the autumn salad was delightful. We also shared the catch of the day and chicken; both were high quality, well done, and satisfying. Our server was kind and patient as we chatted away and suffered a bit of indecision, she was also helpful and knowledgeable about the menu offerings. The $1 BOTTLE of wine with the purchase of two entrees made our pleasant fall meal on the patio all the sweeter. We stuck around long enough that we got a bit chilly, so we headed inside for peanut butter pie and got to laugh at and admire the decor. (BTW-The fish in the tank is not real; it's an art installation.) York Street Cafe is a fun place with lots of charm. I will definitely return with friends, family, or a date.

Went here with my girlfriend a couple weeks ago. Had heard great things and it didn't disappoint. It is a little pricey (Two entrees and drinks was $70), but at least you are getting a good meal. I got the blackened salmon on the cheesy jalapeno grits and that was very good. My girlfriend got the Amish chicken and I also liked hers. Overall it was pretty good and I will be returning.

My wife and I have a couple of spots that we LOVE to go to - and this is one of them. THE STAFF: - Very Friendly - They actually care! They are not some kids just working so they don't have to ask their parents for money. Example: my wife spilled sauce on her blouse and the waiter ran to his apt. (next door) and grabbed a Tide Stain Stick! THE SCENE: - Very eclectic, not pretentious - Some people have said that they had to wait, but I've been lucky so far. We've been seated right away every time THE FOOD: - Amazing. Every single thing that I've ever had there was a 10 out of 10. I feel like they could bring me anything and I would love it. My favorite: the cheeseburger. - Not expensive. You can easily spend under $25 for two. We will be back many, many times.

My lunch at York Street Cafe makes me want to jump up and down singing, "So good, so good!" Except that I ate so much that I am sinking into food coma. Beyond my delicious smoked salmon wrap, soup, and the strawberry buttermilk cake that I didn't need, the restaurant decor is amazing and when you look around, you just have to wonder about.... the mannequins (especially the stripper mannequin in the window), the Pez collection, the shelves full of old and weird toys. You also have to admire the beautiful woodwork, high ceilings, and the all around coziness. When you see the stained glass window sign, you'll then understand that this crazy/fabulous place used to be an old school pharmacy. We came at the end of the lunch rush and service was a tad leisurely for a work day- however, this may have been a fluke since the server apologized profusely for the delays. If I didn't need to get back to the office, it wouldn't have bothered me at all- I could have hung out there for another hour if I could. Either way, the servers were very nice. The food was tasty and fresh, and extra bonus points for having their delicious cakes out on display on a little bar and being located in such a cool space.

Excellent food, although a better choice for those who like different as opposed to meat and potato standards. Chris lived up to his sterling reputation as a server as did the great desserts. Liz, newport, ky.

York Street Cafe is a really cute place with fabulous food. Service was a little slow, however, the food was well worth the wait. Given the quality of the dishes we found the wait to be understandable. The staff were very helpful and courteous. We loved the dirty hummus and coffee. I throughly enjoyed the apple salad and enjoyed bites of the Amish chicken and greek salad from my date's plates. Unfortunately we did not save room for dessert- but next time we will try. This is probably not the best place to go if you are in a hurry, but rather somewhere to take the ones with whom you love to spend time (ie great place to catch up with family or the girls!!).

This is an awesome place with tons of vegetarian options if you're willing to pay. For starters, they make a tasty hummus with pita that is reasonably priced. The spanakopita is also a solid option that is freshly made and has a good serving size. With regards to entrees I am a huge fan of their veggie burger. York st is one of the few restaurants that makes their own burger that actually tastes great. I highly recommend it.

I wandered in to York Street today for lunch after an absence of about.....8 years. At one point, I spent most of my waking hours at York Street at the club upstairs, so after that was done, I didn't feel much like going back. Greeted happily by a server and seated promptly, we were off to a good start. Thinking I wanted something "good for me" I ordered the Chick Pea patty pita with a side salad with the house made Gorgonzola dressing (ok...not "as" good for me, but still, a favorite from years ago) and started to read my book. My food came out quickly, looked wonderful and tasted even better, but after graciously giving me some water in addition to the hot herbal tea I ordered, I never saw my pleasant server again. It was fine, except I really wanted to pay out and head next door to the little rummage/antique shop for a few minutes before I had to go back to the office. I did have to track her down through another server, but that probably won't stop me from treating myself to a good lunch now and again.

York St. Cafe is fantastic! Their outdoor patio is quirky and fun and the food is outstanding. I tried it for the first time today and after having a conversation with the server about all of their HOMEMADE desserts and deciding against it, she brought us two free slices of butter rum cake with the bill. She told us she wanted to give us something as a thank you for trying the restaurant out. I will absolutely be going back!

Hello All, My name is Tony, and I am groupon junkie. This is how my wife got me to go to the York Street cafe. And I have to say I loved it. The food was great! The Service was great! The Desserts were out of this world! From what our waiter had said that they make all of it daily. And it tasted like they made with alot of good quality ingredients. I wish I could remember everything we had that night but sadly I am doing this review from memory of 2 months ago. But we will plan on going back there soon. Probably end up there this weekend! :)

The first thing you'll notice when you walk in here is the eclectic decorations. They have crammed every strange thing in here that you could imagine and then some. Appetizers lean Mediterranean and they have what they call 'conversation platters', which are larger appetizers (either samplers or things like fondue) which are meant to be shared. They entrees are good, if not a little overpriced. Almost all of them are over $20. I got the tomato pesto pasta with salmon and was pleased. The dish could have been a little more bold on the pesto flavor, but it was still very good. The wedge salad was just ok; there wasn't a ton of flavor in the Gorgonzola dressing. Dessert, however, was amazing. I had a piece of butter rum pudding cake that was to die for. Moist, almost to the point of wet and extremely flavorful. The best dessert I've had in a restaurant in a long while. Overall, a great experience. Good food, good atmosphere, but prices a little high for what you're going to receive.

York Street Café still boasts original decor from its operation as a pharmacy in the 1800s. The walls are lined with tall, gorgeous wooden cabinets. Each cabinet is bursting with nostalgia, from Elvis collectibles to dog figurines. It's organized chaos filled with novelties that will bring back memories. There's just so much to look at! It's like an old-fashioned carnival meets home. The food at York Street is original, fresh and healthy. The chef uses only seasonal ingredients so the menu rotates on a monthly basis. Some items stay the same, but many things switch according to available produce. The portions are plentiful and the meals are bursting with unique flavors. So, what's good here? - Chicken quesadilla stuffed w/ vegetables - Salmon wrap - Turkey cranberry sandwich w/ horseradish sauce - Peppermint Patty cake - Rum cake - State Fair cake - Carrot cake ...really, just rename yourselves to York Street Cake! Never have I had such wonderful cake. It's baked fresh in the kitchen or from Bonbonerie. The slices are HUGE. When you walk in, all of the cakes are lined up on the counter, waiting for you to savor them. I could easily come here for coffee and dessert and be content. The service has always been wonderful too. I love the petite young lady with short black hair. She's very compassionate and attentive. Our glasses never ran dry, orders were placed, received, and bussed quickly. All of this during lunch rush, and she was still cheerful! Entrees at York Street Café are around $8.00 - $10.00, cake is $4.00. Ample street parking. Don't park in the lot if you have an SUV. Big cars don't fit well there, plus other drivers will despise you! Park on the street instead. I highly recommend York Street Café for business lunches, outings with friends, group dinners, first dates...and cake. They're all-around fantastic for any occasion! Price per person: $15.00

One of the best off the beaten path restaurants in the greater Cincinnati area. Dirty hummus may be one of my favorite things...ever. Desserts are amazing and it's super fun to get a few things and share around a table. Atmosphere is quirky and the patio is practically perfect.

Sigh. All the reviews are so good! I feel like such a freak, why am I the odd one out? But my story needs to be told too, so here goes: I'll start with a disclaimer. I came here, to use my Groupon, two days before the groupon expired. Apparently everyone else in town remembered THEIR groupon was expiring, and apparently York St. did not plan for this eventuality. I realize this is not a normal situation, but it was my first (and probably only) experience with York St, which I was really looking forward to. And gosh darn it, people--if you are a restaurant and can't handle the groupon--don't offer the groupon! We had been really wanting to go to York St, because the reviews are awesome. This is the 3rd time we've tried to go, so expectations were high. They don't take reservations, but we got there at 6pm on a Tuesday night and thought it wouldn't be an issue. Well--we got there, looked around for a bit (there was a little area I thought could be a hostess area, but no one was there), and after 5 minutes we finally tracked down someone who told us there was a 30-minute wait...and looked a bit bummed when we said we were going to stay. An hour later, our name finally got called. Our server, when he finally showed up, said that he was slammed and his job was to "keep the train moving", which we took to mean that he didn't have time to answer questions about the menu, we sent him off for drinks, and when he got back we quickly gave him our order--no questions.I heard other servers telling people the specials, but we never heard them because we were trying our best to keep the train moving. In our hour pre-game, and time after the order, we had plenty of time to look around. Cincinnati--I see many of you really like the decor, and I have one word for you all: FREAKSHOW. The whole time I am looking around, I start to feel uncomfortable and dirty. I also start thinking about Miss Havisham from Great Expectations. I am staring at all this stuff that hasn't been dusted since 1952, and thinking maybe I'm not hungry anymore. And then the food comes. Well, the food was wonderful. We had the fish of the day, which was superb, and the flippin' shrimp, which were pricey at $10 for 4 shrimp but spectacular. We also had the chicken cherry salad, which was pretty good as well. And if I were in a different environment, and didn't have the monstrous wait and the staff who didn't want me there, I would give at least 4 stars for the food. And if I shut my eyes, the food was wonderful...but the minute I opened them, I started seeing undusted troll dolls and peeling paint and frankly, it really put a damper on the experience for me. So there you go. If I ever went back, I would need to sit outside (I understand there is a courtyard folks can go to in the summer). But I probably won't go back.

York Street Café is just nifty. I seriously didn't even know a place like that existed. Walking in there's a total classy Victorian feel, then bam! Pop culture posters, bobble heads and mannequins everywhere! This place is packed with everything unique, giving it a complete vintage feel. The food is delicious! OK, so I've only been there once, to get drinks and appetizers, but it was delicious I promise! I'm a fan of the conversation plates- huge appetizers you can share with the whole table! York Street is the perfect place to grab some food in Newport. The staff is great, food is delicious, and the atmosphere just can't be beat!

I seem to have our former town, New Orleans, on the brain lately (I did pay that town a brief visit earlier this month), so here's another allusion: New Orleans is such a food-and-restaurant-obsessed town that the biggest radio station there--the equivalent of WLW--actually has a daily three-hour talk show devoted to the discussion of nothing other than local dining and food. The host of the show, Tom Fitzmorris, is a bit of an cantankerous and douche-y know-it-all, but he does know his stuff. Fitzmorris coined the nice term "superjoint" to describe a casual, charming neighborhood restaurant that serves delicious high-end food at reasonable prices. York Street Cafe qualifies as a bit of a "superjoint" wannabe. A bunch of other folks have already adequately described the ancient and eclectic dining area, and I agree that it's got way more than its share of charm. Close to five stars for decor, ambience, character, etc. A great spot to spend an hour or two. And the fish dishes we ordered--a pan-fried trout and a grilled salmon--were quite good. The trout was just about perfectly cooked and the salmon pretty close. The pomegranate marmalade and caramelized onions on top of the salmon were nice. So what's the problem? Mainly, too much else about this place isn't good enough to justify York Street Cafe's dinner-time price points, which at $22-25 for entrees are verging toward those of some of the best (and more upscale) restaurants in town. First of the all, some of the menu seems dated and unadventurous, like it came from a "nice" restaurant circa the mid-1990s: e.g., "Mediterranean Pasta" with a protein of your choice, "Asian marinated" pork tenderloin, a prominently featured chicken dish. Sides are forgettable: mashed potatoes and "vegetable" with the meats (not sure what vegetable, since we didn't order meat); very dull, Quincy's-level rice pilaf and steamed broccoli with the seafood. It's boring stuff to see on a plate, at any price. "Flippin Good Shrimp" (grilled with a pomegranate and butter sauce) was a pretty tasty appetizer, but, as Leisa D. says, overpriced at $10 for four shrimp and a garlic croute. Service was not the greatest. It was competent and pleasant enough, but it also felt rather perfunctory and lacked the polish you expect at these prices. York Street Cafe doesn't take reservations, which I'm not a fan of with crowds like this place gets, and if you arrive rather early (5:30-ish) on a weekend night like we did, there isn't much of a place to wait (two chairs in the foyer). You can check out the gallery on the third floor. Or you can have a drink in the second floor lounge, except that the bartender hadn't shown up yet on the eveing we were there. Or you can go outside. Bottom line: York Street Cafe is charming place with some nice qualities and some good food, but you can do better around here in this price range. P.S. From reading these reviews, it sure sounds like lunch is a better deal. P.P.S. One of the reviews below states that York Street Cafe is operated by Terry of Terry's Turf Club. But York Street Cafe is owned by Terry and Betsy Cunningham, not the Terry Carter of Turf Club fame.

I held my son's wedding rehearsal dinner for nearly 50 people at the York Street Cafe this past weekend, and I could not be more pleased. The setting is a 100 year old building with an attractive and unique eclectic/quirky vibe. Best of all, the food and service were wonderful. We had drinks and appetizers on the private 2nd floor that had a beautiful old wood bar, and then we moved to the 3rd floor for a seated buffet dinner with drinks and dessert. We finished the night with after-dinner drinks on the 2nd floor. I was worried since we live out of town and arranged everything remotely, but it worked out great. It was the perfect casual and relaxed environment I was looking to achieve for the bridal couple and wedding party. Ask for Betsy--she will take care of all the details for you. The food was so good that I know I will be back to York Street Cafe for dinner the next time we visit the area.

I went to the York St. Cafe a few weeks ago to meet someone for a first date and had a wonderful time. The ambience of the restaurant is perfect for conversation and conversation starters with all of the collections of random items all over the walls. We couldn't pick from all of the tasty looking desserts, so we ordered three and they were all outstanding! I went back a few weeks later and tried the burger, which I would absolutely put on my top ten list for Cincinnati burgers.

This is the first time Yelp has led me astray...this place is WEIRD, I'm into eclectic but it's really strange inside. Service was friendly but VERY slow. Dirty hummus had flavor combinations that didn't work. Hubs had a salmon wrap which he said was not good, I had the hot veggie sandwich which was good. I also ordered a Bloody Mary and it was the worst I've ever had - basically tomato juice and well vodka, blech. Just an odd jumbled mix of atmosphere and menu and we definitely won't be back. I don't understand why people like this place!

I've performed here a few times as part of The Big Reveal (a Moth-style storytelling show) and I always look forward to hanging out before or after the show because the food is SO good, the atmosphere is great, and the service is amazing. It doesn't get much better than that. P.S. Order the dirty hummus and thank me later.

Delicious food and excellent wait staff. Had dinner on a business trip and after many such business trips all around the country this was one of the most memorable meals. The fish special and the Amish chicken were both amazing but I am sure you cannot go wrong. The dessert we tasted was also great and the ones we didn't try sounded good too. I will definitely seek this place out again when in the area.

If you need a place that serves good food and fodder for conversation, get yourself to York Street Cafe. The decor is nothing if not different. It's almost as though you're eating in someone's attic, surrounded by all of their favorite things. If you're nervous about starting a conversation with your date, the dining room will offer plenty of conversation starters. And, oh the food. I really enjoy this place. They serve a great mix of cuisines, with appetizers leaning towards Mediterranean and lighter fare, while main dishes are more American with a twist. Be prepared to share if you go for the Mediterranean platter - it's a bunch of food. The entrees change with the season and they typically offer at least one meat and one fish special. The Amish stuffed chicken is amazing. I highly recommend. At last visit, I tried the pork tenderloin - also delicious and it came with homey mashed potatoes. Score. They offer a full bar in addition to beer and wine. The wine prices are reasonable. The dessert is amazing. I'm a sweets girl, and no matter how full I am, I have to try something out when I go to York Street. I'm not sure if they're made in house, but they typically offer a wide selection of (what appears to be) homemade cakes and pie. They are out on display, so you can take your time and pick what looks best to you. Oh, and they have a nice outdoor space as well. When the weather's right, get yourself an outside table. Another aside: While they do offer parking, the lot is small. If you're meeting a group, you may want to give yourself some time to find a space. It's far enough away from the Levee that you can typically find a free space on the street without a problem.

My friends and I came in a large group (about 10) at lunch and had no trouble getting a seat -- meaning the service and space were very accommodating, not that it was empty. Everyone loved what they had, and prices were reasonable. Personally I can attest to the fact that the turkey and brie sandwich is amazing. I'd love to try dessert here sometime -- i.e., I am definitely going back.

Pros: 1)Great atmosphere, very relaxed and filled with unique decorations 2) Their lunch: I had the turkey and brie sandwich which was pretty rich and delicious. The hummus appetizer is decent but the hummus was slightly more watery that I usually prefer. 3) Very reasonably priced lunch options 4) Their brie conversation board Cons: 1) The service is extremely slow, we were done with our food and waiting for 30 minutes before our server came and asked us if we wanted our check 2) Dinner: I had the steak, while it was decent I felt that it was extremely over priced, for that price I would much rather have a Jeff Ruby steak

York St. Café is always one of my favorite restaurants to dine in Newport. Love the ambiance, the service is always top notch, the food delectable, and the ingredients are often locally sourced. We arrived about 8pm on a Saturday and even though they don't take reservations we were seated promptly. For the appetizer usually I order the Babaganoush, but this time I tried the Mushroom Toasty with Arugula and was blown away by how good it was! I was actually deconstructing each bite in my mouth thinking about what ingredients I'd need to stop and buy on the way home to make it myself. Being a long time vegetarian, one other thing I love about York St. Café is they offer something most restaurants don't -- a choice of entrée. I really enjoy their homemade veggie burger -- unlike a lot of places that just pawn off a store bought burger from the freezer, theirs is actually quite tasty! I do wish they had a wider selection of possible side dishes, but their garlic mashed potatoes are a pretty decent cover all and if you're in the mood for something light the side salad is serviceable. But no trip to York St. Café would be complete without dessert. Held aloft on cake stands in the corner of the dining room sits an array of cakes flirting with you throughout dinner. One cake invariably catches your eye and like a jealous lover you notice every time a server slices off a wedge for another patron and hope a slice will be left for you. I ordered my must have -- their Key Lime Pie and also a slice of Chocolate Blackberry Cake for the table. The Chocolate Blackberry Cake was terrific, but the Key Lime Pie always has a surreal decadence to it that makes it a must order! My only real "complaint" about the York St. Café is, as someone who really enjoys craft beer, I find their beer selection a bit out-of-date. Would love to see the list expanded or augmented to include more local craft beers that have come onto the scene in the last few years. Always end up going to York St. Café for special occasions, but the food is so wonderful and rather affordable, I think I need to make it a point to visit more often!

I love this hidden gem in Newport. It's north up York St a bit so many people who don't venture north of the levee probably don't know it exists. The decor of the place is super quaint and unusual. Knick knacks fill the restaurant. It definitely reminds me of my grandma's house. One of the things I love about this place is that they make pretty much everything from scratch. I'm a fan of the dirty hummus and free range Amish chicken. I had a really great chicken sandwich here once, too. I think it was mole chicken. Definitely check this place out if you are looking for some yummy food, made from scratch!

York Street Cafe is a charming restaurant in Newport, KY. The ambience is really hipster and eclectic with a random assortment of figurines and old paintings. It was really warm and cozy. The service was very friendly. We tried the Mediterranean Board, Chicken Cherry Salad, and Grand Marnier Pork. The food was really good and we really loved the Mediterranean Board. I definitely recommend York Street Cafe to anyone in the area.

As an addicted patio-holic I was looking for a neat off the beaten path patio to have a lunch meeting today and I found this quaint little place on Yelp and decided to check it out! To start off...the inside is insane. Imagine walls upon walls of knick knacks and collectables in a giant super old house. The floors are all original and they have red velvet sofas, and plants everywhere. Super neat, but as someone who is borderline OCD I was freaking out in there from knick knack overload. Thus, enter the beautiful outdoor patio. The patio is beautiful and there is ivy growing everywhere! It is so charming with little wrought iron tables. So cute and a nice quiet work spot, or a casual lunch date. I ordered the pesto chicken sandwich and it came out steaming hot. Cheese was melted and the bun was crispy and buttered. I would say this was one of the best chicken sandwiches I've ever had in my life. I put the tomatoes on top and the flavor and texture combination of all of it together was just incredible. My dining partner in crime opted for a cup of soup that just looked ok. Our total bill was only $12! I would highly recommend checking this place out just for the nostalgia, but the food is incredible. Don't miss this place!

The mrs and I were looking for a low key place to eat. We're a pretty big foodie couple so we've been to most of the tri-state gems except a few. We decided to try this one out. Id heard about it here and there but I hadn't had the time to check it out. The inside was very cozy and home feeling. I felt like I was in a great aunts home. The staff was warm and welcoming. We sat outside where the ambiance was perfect. A little backyard with a couple strings of lights hanging above provided the perfect lighting for a romantic dinner. I'm a burger guy so I had that and their soup. They both were amazing. The mrs had a tilapia sandwich which was great as well. The server was very night. I'm going back with my cousin here soon!!! Loved it

I have been living in Newport for over a year now and have only been to York Street Cafe once for lunch. What took me so long to come back? I think the main reason is that it always reminds me of a great place to go on a date, but never seems like a good choice when I'm just hanging out with friends. Fortunately on a recent Friday night my date chose to take me there and it was a great choice. It is funky, cozy and comfortable spot that is worth checking out. It wasn't too crowded when we arrived around 7:00 but was filling up nicely when we left. We both chose the specials and decided to share. I picked the pork over cheddar polenta and my date picked the swordfish. Both were deliciously prepared and had a side of tender broccoli (don't you hate hard vegetables?) I think the prices were reasonable and the atmosphere relaxing and would recommend it!!

This place should get a high rating for the ambience ! I explored it towards the end of my year stay in Cincinnati and I kinda regret it. The food is great and the ambience is amazing. Eclectic mix of knock knacks and collectibles(I wanna steal some of them).

Just when you think you know a lot about your city....in walks York St Cafe. How have I missed this gem...why have I settled and eaten at so many other crappy establishments...when all along, YSC was there. This is a destination spot...as in, worth driving from Dayton for. Maybe not Columbus, but most certainly Dayton. It has everything that I look for in a restaurant partner. Originality-check Creativity-check Pretty Courtyard-check Interesting and well done food-check. Does it sound like I'm raving? I am. The pork sandwich that my server recommended came with a delightful spicy mayo and on Brioche. My daughter got a grilled cheese which came with some cut up fruit...nice touch. My only gripe was the painfully average chips that accompanied both sandwiches. My server was rolling solo and really busting hump and doing a swell job! Two small touches that pushed YSC over the top: 1. A child's toy area complete with a doodle pad and books 2. Cake up on the coffee bar for purchase (in glass cake stands) I'm not going to go into the cafe decor...everyone else already has, it's amazing, check the pics. It would be like me telling you that my trip to the Sun was quite warm. Bottom line...check this place out. Seriously...go here now!

Was looking for a quiet place to late-lunch and read for a couple hours on a Friday afternoon and stumbled upon this inconspicuous delight. Smoked poblano soup was superb. Delicious and unique. Temp was spot on. Chicken salad sandwich was great as well. Awesome citrus hints I hadn't had in a chicken salad before. Service great. Topped it off with the rum cake. I learned it's definitely not a coffee shop, and I noticed the average customer was quite a bit older than I (early 20s), so they probably aren't trying to cater to the yuppy coffee world, but the place definitely feels like an artisan coffee shop and has a lovely atmosphere.

Came for dinner. It was good. Environment was cute. We would have had dessert, but all the cakes were sitting out uncovered an it's winter time/cold season :(

I came in because I haven't eaten here in years and I was wanting to get out of the "end of Spring heat" that Northern Kentucky is notorious for having at this time of year. The restaurant is exactly how I remember it -- still eclectic and fun to be in. The conversation platter with the Brie is awesome and so is all of their food!

Wonderful food, excellent service. Large portions, everything is made from scratch, including the desserts. I travel for a living and I eat out at nice restaurants all the time; our server, Chris, at York St., Café, gave us by far the BEST service I've had at a restaurant in years. He changed out our silverware after each course so that we can have a clean palate for each serving. He described every dish we were interested in like he cooks it himself, even giving a suggestions how to eat it for the perfect bite. He did this all while being non-pretentious, easy to relate to, and down to earth. I would expect that kind of service at a four-star restaurant like the precinct. I will be back with my family regularly.

It's cooky and weird but fun inside. In all the years I've lived here, my first visit was just a couple of weeks ago. The patio is beautiful and perfect for a nice day. However, the service was a little iffy. When asked which of two items were better our waitress replied, "I don't understand the question. Grilled chicken and beef are completely different." Uhh...what? You're supposed to be able to provide a suggestion. I'll probably give it another try.

I ordered the fresh catch of the day which was red snapper and it was absolutely delicious. Even the rice and side of carrots were amazing. The soup was a curry, spinach, and potato soup. Nothing at all to complain about. We went on a Friday, had no wait, and the service was good. Would definitely return.

A wonderful eclectic restaurant that isn't trying to be eclectic on purpose (looking at you OTR). The food is phenominal and the staff is genuine in their selling of their favorite dishes. Specialis will always include a vegetarian option and a seafood dish. I enjoy the helpfulness of the staff and appreciate their recommendations. It's top notch service that feels as comfortable as a relaxed pair of jeans. In my last visit, I enjoyed their Cherry Chicken Salad and a Vegan Curry Pea Soup - my meal was excellent. Perfect for a date night or a family dinner - I would absolutely return and can't wait for my next visit.

Perhaps this is better experienced as a dine-in destination. While I will grant you that the physical building is very pretty, the neighborhood is fetching, the gentleman who assisted me was kind (as opposed to the woman who greeted me; smiles are free currency... jus' sayin'), and I was thanking all the good graces I'd accumulated to find something - anything - open on a Saturday afternoon (seriously, Newport; Saturday!!). That said, I just can't justify $16 salads that don't take *me* to dinner. I can't. Generally, when I spend that kind of money for lettuce and protein, I am dressed nicely, have a bottle of wine by my side and am dining in. When searching for a take-out option ($13 for plain salad; $3 for chicken/salmon add-on... $5 for shrimp), paying that above market in a smaller market doesn't make me happy. Don't get me started on the bottle coke prices. Has Newport experienced a pricing boom in the time since I've been gone from Kentucky? For the amount of money I dropped for life-saving food for me and my colleagues, I would have thought that I commissioned Rick Bayless for a private dinner. No me gusta!

You stare up into the blank face of a life-size papier-mâché angel, hanging from the ceiling, slowly spinning, in the middle of a dark red room, and can only wonder, "My god. Life. This existence. What does it all mean?" - then you eat a burger and it's all good again. York Street Café is one of the weirder and cooler spaces I've ever been into in Cincinnati - and I didn't even know it existed (technically it's in Newport, which I don't go to often, tucked away from the main strip, so I'm not sure how I would have found it sooner - but still!). You walk by the window an a mannequin is staring you down, right next to people eating. Inside is artwork and statues, pictures and paintings and everything in between. It's like entering the mind of a crazy person, but with really good food. The name's actually misleading - it's more of a restaurant and less of a café. Yes, you can get coffee and beer but their food selection is not only great, it's also semi-cheap. Also, they a have a part of their menu called "conversation platters" meant for sharing and talking over. Ha! I love that. I was here for a hilarious storytelling show and they ushered me up to the second floor. Here was more crazy artwork in a large room with a full bar. I didn't even have to go downstairs to get a drink. Win. The space was really good for a show too - tables in the back and rows of chairs in the front, meaning you could tailor how intimate you wanted everything to be. I was quite happy there. I also wanted to point out that I was amused and freaked out by the men's bathroom. I was told to go up to the third floor where there's this wooden door with the word "restroom." Opening up, it's this white space with drawings of flowers and shapes all over the wall. Was this really the men's room? Yep, it was. They even had drawn a princess crown over the toilet, just for more weirdness. Fantastic. Seriously, there wasn't one thing about this place I didn't like. A hard-earned five stars for sure.

This place is amaaaazzzzing!!! They sure know how to make me feel at home when ever I go! The food is delicious, and the drinks are tasty! Try the filet mignon, it's my favorite thing on the menu!! Although, I have not had a bad thing there. Ask for Chris when you go, he's a great server! Be sure to say hi to Terry, he's an owner who takes pride in his business :o)

I purchased a groupon for the York Street Cafe to give it a whirl ($50 for $25 is a pretty good deal). After my experience I most definitely will be coming back. The service was top notch, extremely friendly and willing to explain what's on the menu. We had babaganoush as an appetizer and it was a very interesting and spicy baba, among the best I've ever had. For my main course I had the polenta which was super tasty, I really liked the bits of corn in it, and I'm normally not a fan of mushrooms but the mushrooms in my dish were excellent. My friend had the salmon and she said it was super delicious. The decor and atmosphere was delightful as well, it was upscale but also relaxed and quirky. Also be sure to try to go on a Tuesday or Wednesday, they have $1 bottles of wine with 2 entrees.

My friend and I came to York St. Cafe for lunch recently. My initial impression walking in was the decor - it reminds me of an old costume shop with strange mannequins and knick knacks everywhere. I thought it was very unique and definitely not the impression I got of the place from the website. I ordered the VooDoo Tilapia, which was delicious. The fish was perfectly battered and melted in my mouth. The homemade tartar sauce added enough flavor to the sandwich. My friend ordered the Chicken Mole sandwich which I tried and it was also tasty and cheesy. For the $8 price tag I would have appreciated a more substantial side dish than regular potato chips. Normally when I get burgers or sandwiches from most restaurants I am stuffed or can barely finish, although this was not the case at York St. We ordered a delicious homemade chocolate fudge cheesecake to top it off and I loved every bite (but I'm a sucker for anything chocolate). Will definitely be back again for lunch.

York Street Cafe was a pleasant surprise - we went on a whim to catch a concert upstairs but ended up enjoying a nice dinner in the first-floor restaurant instead. The atmosphere is immediately engaging - the walls are packed with shelves of conversation-worthy old toys, knickknacks, and photographs (we ate next to an old set of drawers, one of which contained - seriously - a pack of old naked Troll dolls). The food was, quite simply, spectacular. The Autumn salad included a creative mix of butternut squash, golden raisins, and superb candied walnuts. The brie puff pastry was just what I expected: sweet, filling, and warm. Other menu items looked delicious, but with entrees all over 20 dollars, they were a little pricey. The price was the only downside to this otherwise excellent cafe! We'll be back soon.

A corner spot in the Covington area, York Street Cafe has a nice feel. The place is a decent size from the inside with plenty of room. It has a family-owned feel, which I like. I had the cheeseburger and the patty was quite juicy and it came with a cucumber salad that was also very tasty with a sour and tangy taste. One thing I'd say is that the service is slightly slow, which could be a problem if you're in a rush. Also I might come again to try some of their specialty items as it might not have been a fair assessment of the location but for it is it has a good vibe about it.

Really delicious food! I have eaten here twice with a group and have not been disappointed yet. The conversation plates are absolutely amazing. I have tried the brie plate the the Mediterranean plate. They are great appetizers for a large group, and all the food is fresh and carefully prepared. Their soups of the day are fresh and healthy, and the rest of the menu looks very delicious, albeit slightly expensive for Covington. The atmosphere is a little odd and eclectic, but at Christmas it was pretty funny. The parking lot sucks...it's super tiny and cramped. I would very much recommend this place to anyone looking for a freshly prepared meal in Cincinnati/Covington!

Lunch at the York St Cafe is yum yum yum good. I have been going to the York st Cafe for lunch since David Hosea opened it in the early 90s. I have never been disappointed and today was no exception. I always ask about and try the specials they are always good. Today special was some kind of gourmet pizza and it was GREAT. Service prompt and accurate my Arnold Palmer was never empty. The check with Tip was just north of $10. My lunch partner and I enjoyed some good conversation in a comfortable relaxed atmosphere. I'll be back.

Good lord, York Street has seen more reincarnations through the years....I don't even know where to begin. My best memories of York Street were as a music venue and I saw some of the best talent in Cincinnati with the best sound. I have fond memories of watching from beneath the floor boards bending in time to the music on the tiny stage on the second floor (dancing was the norm) and was present forone of the most sold out shows in Cincy history - Stop Making Cents (a tribute to Talking Heads) to benefit autism. The line stretched around the block to get in. Sadly, this is no longer an option. The second floor also boasted the only unisex bathroom in Cincinnati and was a nortorious spot for evesdropping - just go into one of the stalls and shut the door. Best theatre in Cincy. The food downstairs however has never been short of excellent. It's been awhile since we've visited York Street and I need to get back. It's still a destination for lunch in the area I am told and I think they still have their famous Black Forest Torte on the menu.

I am going to start with the one negative because everything else about this place is so great. It is a little pricey, especially at dinner. I recommend going for lunch when the prices are pretty reasonable. Decor is incredibly cute and kitschy. Servers are friendly and fast. Food is unusual... Try the dirty hummus! Think of hummus mixed with a Mexican 7-layer dip. Whoever thought of serving hummus warm is a genius. YUM! Great salads as well. I had the butternut squash salad, which had a ton of toppings and was large enough to have leftovers for the next day. I hear rumor that they have an amazing patio as well. Definitely try this place out!

I want to live here. DO: -Brunch DON'T: -N/A PARKING: -Street parking (mostly free I believe) Enjoyed a wonderful brunch at this joint. Overall the food was probably 3.5-4 stars. The menu is very refreshing thanks to the rather experimental dishes. What tipped this review to a 5 star was the decor. I'm a sucker for grungy and yet well curated selection of random decor. I felt so comfortable and cozy, I didn't want to leave. I want to come back during the evening and drink my problems away. Okay, TMI.

Such personality! This place is charming and filled with many knick knacks that beg you to explore and think about. I along with 12 others held a book club meeting here and it was a great night. Our server Chris, was great and was on top of everyone's order. He also kept my glass of water filled to the brim. Thank you! Food: I had the Veggie Burger ($12) which is a little pricey in my opinion, but at least it is a great tasting burger. It is also thick and was not quick to crumble like many veggie burgers. The bun was toasted to perfection and includes a lot of red onion, a small piece of lettuce, some cheddar cheese and a tomato. There is also some kind of risotto-like dish. All condiments (mayo, mustard, and ketchup) were automatically served on the side. While I am on the topic, I do like ketchup and the ketchup ramekin only had about a tablespoon and a half of ketchup. I quickly went through that and had to ask for some more and was brought back another one with even less ketchup. Is there a ketchup shortage going on that no one told me about? No big deal, thankfully the food had lots of flavor and didn't need a ketchup bath. When it was time to pay, our server even asked for my ID since I have it written big on the credit card. Good job! Had the service and food not been excellent, I would have dinged the place a star as smoking is I guess allowed (there was an ash tray in the lobby with two half used cigs), but maybe not in the main dining area. But I am in the minority as it is Kentucky and you'll have to pry the cancer sticks from their cold dead hands... ha! Cell reception for me was a little bad, if you are waiting on others, you might want to dip outside once in a while. The service, food and atmosphere are great. It's treasures like this place that we need to frequent and tell others about.

This place quite simply put is a rockstar. But not in that, in your face, fake, I'm too cool for school kind of way. It just exudes cool in an unassuming manner and makes you want to be near it. The street presence is appealing, yet understated. The interior decor is perfect without slapping you in the face about it. The food itself is delish, even the basic grub. The service is overtly friendly with a radiating warmth of kindness. There are a few little nooks you can sequester yourself, and that special someone, away to for some deep eye gazing without being disconnected from the pulse of the place. Follow the stairs up and there are often live music performances. They feature some of the best local and 'from out of town' acts, all with an eclectic mix of true soul. The drinks are mixed with care and a sense of urgency, tempered with a relaxed coolness that adds to the experience. There are a variety of couches and other seating arrangements, but you have to arrive promptly to snag the prime locations. The unisex bathroom certainly brings a bit of an edge in a racy, ahead of its area feel. If you play your cards right, this could be an opportune moment to sneak that sideways glance to a certain unknown someone to see if you should pursue once back in the safety of the mellowness without. As a final side note, there are many interesting historical facts about this location dating back to the days of Newport gangsters, gambling, and adult entertainment. For example the upstairs bar was purloined, piece by piece from a famous rival establishment at the time. Learn all this and more by going on a Newport Gangster Tour.

Very cute atmosphere and delicious food. I came to town to see the Newport Aquarium with my girlfriend the other day. After having a fantastic afternoon at the aquarium we were getting really hungry and started looking for someplace to eat some late lunch/ early dinner. We looked around the Levy part of town and everything appeared to be big chains and corporate franchises, so I suggested that we drive around the neighborhood and get on our yelp smartphone apps and find some place a little bit different. Boy, I'm glad we did because soon after leaving the parking garage and navigating the one way streets we found this charming place. The decor is like that of an antique store full of nick knacks and is fun and inviting. The waiter was very nice and did very well considering that I think he had the whole dining room to himself to manage. I asked him what his favorite sandwich was on the menu and he said absolutely, no question, it's the turkey/Brie/apple/cranberry dip one, said it made his eyes roll back it was so good. lol ! I told him that's what my girl was ordering so I wanted something different and I decided on the Asian grilled pork sandwich and we both opted for ginger carrot soup in place of chips. The food arrived and was very good indeed, the Turkey sandwich was the winner but my Pork was very tasty as well. We decided that the meat would have been great on it's own with out the bun so you knew it was going to make a great sandwich based on that alone. The waiter even went out of his way to make us some Iced Teas for the long drive back to Detroit. :-)

Quirky, quaint, cozy, home-y, and inviting. Lounge around in solitude with the morning paper and coffee, have an intimate brunch date, discuss local politics with close friends, or throw a baby shower...this place is a catch-all kind of joint. I ordered the spinach toastie (7.95) that came with either a soup or salad. I got the soup-du-jour which was butternut squash with a chipotle twist. I liked it a lot, but it can easily become an overwhelming bowl because it's super creamy. Luckily they portion their dishes well. My spinach toastie was basically a spinach-artichoke dip on top of toasted pita bread, but it was still good. I was torn by SO many of their SEASONAL menu items. Nothing is "typical" on their menu because they add a little twist even to their sammies. Lunch prices mostly fall around $8-9. Their coffee was delish (and free refills!)-- pairs well with their dessert cakes, which are terrific as well. Our slice of cake was $6.50. Just warning you. Our server was so kind and accommodating. I'd like to come back to see what they have to offer, especially in the evening. I'm sure the ambience would change as the day goes on. You have to come at least to be a nostalgic romantic lost in all the unique trinkets.

My paramour's favorite restaurant. I'd argue that the lunch menu kicks the butt of the dinner menu (there's very little overlap), but that's personal preference. The spanakopita is delicious, the hummus is top notch, the service is great, & they have what is maybe the single best sandwich I've ever tasted (turkey, melted brie cheese, raspberry dipping sauce; your taste buds will spring to life & do a happy dance in your mouth). For dinner I'd go 3, for lunch the full monty, so we'll split the rating at 4.

I have wanted to come and try this place out for probably two years but have never gotten around to it. So last Saturday night when my boyfriend (a lifelong KY resident) told me he was taking me here for Date Night, I was ecstatic, and I have to say, I was not disappointed. I didn't get out of work until after 8pm, so by the time I got home and was ready to go, it was late. Like after 10 om late. We called ahead to make sure they were still serving food and whoever answered the phone told us they would keep the kitchen open later than their usual time if needed for us to get there. Right off the bat, I was impressed. We were only a few blocks away so we definitely made it there before the kitchen closed. As we walked in, words failed me. The term "kitschy" to describe this place's decor is the biggest understatement of the year. Some of the weirdest things I had ever seen have made it's way onto the walls of York Street. Somehow it works. Also, their seating arrangement made me feel like I was sitting in a living room. The living room of a crazy cat-lady aunt, but still a comfy and cozy living room. They were playing perfect music, the atmosphere was perfect, I love it! The food was good, but it's the atmosphere and the great customer service that will be bringing me back here often.

Love the kitchy, vintage feel of this place and the food has always been very good. Some borders on overpriced for what it is though. The first floor restaurant level has lots of comfortable, mismatched seating and they can accommodate large parties well. The acoustics make a little loud down there (especially when there are large parties) so if a more romantic evening is what you're going for, there's a nice little 2-top along the bookcases right as you enter the main dining room that feels a bit more removed. I've tried a few different sandwiches at lunch time, but prefer this place for dinner where the creativity and quality shine through a little more. There's a Mediterranean influence on the menu, especially in the appetizer section with things like spanikopita, hummus, baba ganoush, etc. My personal favorite starter to share is the Dirty Hummus which has olives, red onion, a kind of tangy BBQ-like sauce, and then melted cheese on top, served with pita points. A bit like Middle Eastern nachos. Although on my last visit, there was way too much cheese (yes, it is possible) in the cheese to hummus ratio. There's also a bar on the second floor that has live music. Check their website for a schedule. Fun, laid-back vibe. And the third floor is a mini art gallery. So it's very possible to have an entire fun night in one building with dinner, music & drinks, and a little art too.

Outstanding! Me and my girlfriend went there for her birthday weekend. We got two meals and split them, the Asian Grilled pork sandwich (5 - Stars) and the Turkey & Brie Sandwich (4 - Stars) they come with a side of chips and a pickle spear. The waiter was awesome, super nice staff. The atmosphere is really flipping cool. Just do yourself a favor and good.

I HAVE got to learn how to make baked Brie! ...but then again, I would lose my excuse to visit one of the best Restaurants south of the Ohio... Found in Newport, KY - this little taste bud bit of heaven is an absolute must! A little on the pricier side, you will quickly find after your first bites, that it was totally worth the cash. The main courses are supurb, well thought out and revolving on the menu. The servers are also particularly helpful - dishing out advice when nothing seems familiar (my servers nailed my taste buds hands down!). The proportions are also fairly healthy. With a vast selection of appetizers as well, I found myself splitting an app and main course with my dining buddy and was definitely more than satisfied and a bit stuffed. Don't be misled by the quaint atmosphere and eclectic menu, there may be a rock show in the works upstairs for after dining entertainment. With door prices cheap and the bands usually local - this venue brings it all. The house is off the hook! Dining to DIE for and great local entertainment upstairs complete with a separate bar from the restaurant. Dudes - if she digs tunes and great food, this is a fail proof, one stop date for you!

Decor definitely opens your eyes. This is a very cute, quaint restaurant that seems secluded from the average restaurant row. Appetizers were superb (baba and spanakopida). I had the polenta with shrimp, it was really tasty. The service was a bit slow, but we didn't mind because we were too busy being social.

I first came here not long after it opened. On a second visit I saw Lucy Kaplansky upstairs (1994) -- a great venue for music. Downstairs we have food, pretty damn good food in a delightful atmosphere. I've eaten here only about a dozen times in 12 years. Everyone I've dated here loved it. Many don't expect a very good classy restaurant in these environs. A real delight.

York Street Cafe is near and dear to my heart. I went there and had a great date with my now husband. The Mediterranean Board is a standard on our order list as well as always saving room for dessert and coffee. The staff has always given us great attention and the owner is always helping out during the busy times. I also love the outside when the weather is nice. Pretty much....I love York St. Also, they have $1 bottle of wine night on Tuesday and Wednesday nights with purchase of entrees!!

Love love love York Street!! From an infamous surprise birthday bash thrown in my honor over 10 yrs ago til now...am still greeted like an old friend every time I stop by, the menu is constantly evolving, always well-executed. Desserts are to die for and they dont forget about non meat eaters. its become a "go to" restaurant that never fails. Service is A+, food is A+...fun, quirky and always worth it....great for lunch or date night or anything in between. Its one of those places I would take an out of town guest looking for something different or a date I wanted to impress! Two thumbs up!

The BF & I ventured here with a Groupon I had purchased a while ago. He used to work very close, but never knew it existed. We walked in and had a short wait, but were seated pretty quickly. The decor, while completely random, was very interesting. We were seated near the dressed up mouse head. All the chairs are different, but very comfortable. I ordered a appletini & was surprised to see how large it was and it came with an actual apple slice, yum! The BF ordered a Coke & was a little disappointed to see it came in a retro glass bottle. Certainly not something you see everyday, but he was looking forward to refills. I had the Amish chicken with broccoli & mashed potatoes & he had the fish special. We both enjoyed our dishes and the portions were very large. He ended up finishing my chicken as I was so full. The desserts looked amazing, but I just didn't have room for it.

I'm getting my carry-out order here during the last week before my Groupon expires. Apparently, Groupons are dine-in only. I read the coupon over and found no mention of this, but when I came in, Terry (of Terry's Turf club who I now presume owns/manages York St. Cafe) was very understanding and accommodating. I was able to use it, and left a hefty tip for the mistake I'd made. Since I had to spend $50 on a single meal for myself (before tax/tip), I ordered a full meal of Spanakopita, Filet Mignon & Garlic Mashed Potatoes, and a Chocolate Hazelnut Flourless Tort. The Spanakopita were delish, warm, fresh, and a little tangy - excellent. The Filet Mignon was actually medium although I had ordered it medium rare, and really just ok. However, it came with the chef's "home-brewed" Worcestershire Sauce which was AWESOME. It went perfectly with the steak and mashed potatoes. The potatoes were also awesome and sort of congealed into the gravy making one potatoey glop of delictibleness. Finally, the tort left a little to be desired. It came with a really nice raspberry compote that more or less made the dish. It's not that it was bad; perhaps I am just an overzealous chocolate fiend. Anyways, I'd highly recommend this place for an inspired meal, and I didn't even get to experience the ambiance, which I'm sure can only add to the experience. (It will not affect my review though, because I always review on food only.) Bottom Line: I'll be back for a delicious meal and an interesting, warm ambiance.

York Street Cafe is a winner. The high points are the original, delicious entrees and the fabulous deserts. The servers are always pleasant. I recommend the turkey and Brie sandwich. Don't pass up desert here. It is difficult to find places in the area that serve fresh, homemade desserts. From the street it doesn't look like much, but once inside, the decor and the food will amaze you. Oh, and if you have the opportunity choose to be seated in the courtyard. Simply delightful.

I want to give this place another half star because I didn't try their signature dishes or desserts, and hence, can't judge them fairly. The reason for my three star review is situation specific. Because this location was close to a party that we were attending, we thought a cafe would be a good place to grab a quick bite. We ordered cheeseburgers and the chicken mole sandwich, thinking that it would be relatively quick. Unfortunately, York Street Cafe is undermanned, and service is dreadfully slow. This simple meal took an hour an half, making us late for our event. Under different circumstances, I think I'd rate this place a 4 or 5. This place would be a perfect place for a first date, or to grab a bite when you have an hour or two to kill. I look forward to coming back to see what York Street Cafe has to offer in full.

Went back on a whim for dinner. Start of restaurant week and had the 3 course meal. It was a good mix of what York St. does best and it was excellent. Service is very good and friendly. Nice to not be rushed with the dinner. Nice mix of young families, older couples with friends and friends enjoying good food and having conversations. Nice homey feel without being fake. You won't be disappointed with this choice.

York St has some of the best tastes, presentation and atmosphere in the Cincinnati-area. There are plenty of "upscale" places to eat in Cincinnati but many have the good-old-boy P&G feel. York St. has a great unpretentious and welcoming staff and atmosphere. I highly recommend it as a date spot, especially when its warm out -- the patio is great. I've got to contribute some of my relationship with my fiancee to dates at York St. Desert, wine and food, no matter what you choose, you'll find something extraordinary.

They didn't take reservations, which ruined my Saturday night. We were told a wait time of an hour, came back to check 30 minutes later, and it was still an hour. What did we learn? Don't come at peak times with a large group (6 is large). So, I came back the following Wednesday evening to use my Groupon. This was a much better experience. Jenny and I got there at 6 and had no wait. We got the hummus, it was delicious, could have used more pita chips to accompany it but the flavor was excellent. Then, we got the fondue. It was AWESOME!!! I can't wait to go back and get it again. The fondue is prepared/served on the table with plenty of bread, grapes, apples, and oranges. The fondue has garlic and amaretto and is so very delicious. The bottle of Bloom Riesling wine that we shared was tasty but maybe slightly overpriced. Service is a little slow but very friendly. Luckily, we weren't in a rush. My second experience, especially the fondue, more than made up for the first bad one and I will be back.

if this place could be rated on how much fun it is to look around, they'd have 5 stars. i love love loved all of the funky stuff surrounding you as you dine. i got the catch of the day and it was OK. the sauce was excellent, but the fish itself (halibut) was meh. my friend who got the same thing didn't eat hers, she really disliked it. the appetizers were good, especially the dirty hummus. however, the waiter gets zero points. because he was so slow to even take our drink orders, and it took about 40 minutes for him to get our appetizer order in. and when he brought the apps out, we hadn't even ordered our main courses yet, so we had this jam packed table with menus everywhere and we couldn't shuffle the apps and plates around. we finally ASK him if we can order... hellllooooo..... and we're back on track. now i realize that this is kentucky, not new york, but i was so annoyed. we managed to have a good time there and dinner was OK. i doubt i'd go again but it's not like it was a horrible experience.

The absolute commitment to good service, food, decor, and friendliness the owners take; make this restaurant one of my favorites. From art shows on the top floor, drum beats and music on the second; this rehabbed structure has been a wonderfully bright spot in Newport Kentucky. I have had their salads , fresh baked cakes, chicken mole, salmon, and various other items and found all these dishes to be delicious. Wonderful lunch spot and fantastic dinner spot. The decor is near museum quality and makes for good conversation.

Really fun eclectic place with very good food. Just check out all the unique items on the wall. We found this place on Yelp. Passing through the area. Try the "Spanky" appetizer-excellent. We got the free range chicken and really enjoyed it. (Note we are not even pretend hippies). Chris was our waiter and he was excellent. Answered questions as needed, very personable, did not rush us at all. Two can certainly split an appetizer and an entree. Adequate beer selection. Good wine selection. Excellent liquor selection. Desserts looked good, but we did not get there. Parking on the street could get dicy, but we got lucky with a primo spot. You will be glad you went.

Great little place! Little knickknacks everywhere and odd little decor pieces that make it charming. The food is also superb. Everyone at our table loved what they got. They have an upstairs too that had music going on. Great place!

Had lunch here today. food was great as usual. Best burger secret in the city. but the waiter was even better than the food Chris is my new all time favorite all restaurants considered. he knew the menu inside out and genuinely was excited for us to try his new recommendations. He even snuck a little taste of dessert for us because he believes no meal is complete without it. just sayin I do believe in love at first service!

I walked in...I was greeted by a man with a top hat. He seemed nice...but a little untrustworthy. He juggled a bit before seating us...which was nice, but unnecessary. I still enjoyed it. The food was good...not something you would ask for as your last meal but still delicious. We had fun He juggled on our way out

I've been wanting to try York Street for a long time, so I was glad when a friend finally recommended the restaurant for lunch. I had the chicken and wild rice soup along with the Atomic Turkey Melt. The soup was great, as it was very hearty and tasted like something I would make in my own kitchen. The "sandwich" was good, but it was more like a flatbread than a sandwich. While I was not unhappy with my order, I would definitely make a tour around the menu before coming back around to this particular item. Our service was terrific, and I this is also a place to see people you know. I ran into three tables full of friends/neighbors. Since it was a business lunch, it wasn't a time where you could share plates throughout the meal. With that said, I would love to try this place with friends over dinner where we can all share our plates (which is a must if you're eating dinner with my family).

When I checked out the menu for this place online, the dirty hummus definitely caught my eye. That was a definite for an appetizer. But do note that it tastes nothing like hummus. At least that was the verdict reached by my husband and I. Plenty tasty still though. :) We also had some Goat Cheese Gratin, so we were more than plenty stuffed just off of appetizers alone. We shared a Veggie Burger for an entree, which was pretty bland. And $12. Pricey for an entree lacking that much flavor. I think they offer some unique options, and servings are pretty sizable. The interior is quaint and interesting.

Came for lunch. Most of the reviews on yelp are for dinner service, so I guess I came with different expectations. Maybe if I come back for dinner my star situation would increase. We came on a Saturday around 12:30...two groups of ladies lunching were the only others in the room. Hubby had the smoked salmon wrap and I had the blackened salmon sandwich. I did not taste his because smoked salmon sorta freaks me out. But, my sandwich was delicious, it def deserved more stars. But, the lack of stars is for the sides that come with lunch. All sandwiches are served with plain chips. If they were home made it would be one thing. Or even if they offered a pasta salad...potato salad....macaroni salad....you get the point. Nope. Just chips It's a cute restaurant. The inside is full of vintage knickknacks. We sat at the bull terrier table....if you're into geocaching there's a little cache for you to sign somewhere. I should have got dessert!! But, we were off to run some errands!!

The decor was really awesome. It reminds me of a cross between Terrys Turf Club and Ottos. There are knickknacks everywhere. There is some art, and some very creepy baby doll heads too. It would make a great first date place, because it gives you so much to talk about just with the decor. You could be there all day and not see everything. It was really neat. They mentioned they had a kids corner online. It was just really a couch with a few books. The books were geared to kids under 5. Awesome concept, but could use some updating. I turned to Yelp to help me decide what to eat. But when I got the menu I was super disappointed. The lunch menu doesn't carry anything that Yelp recommended. It really only carried sandwiches and Mediterranean appetizers. Both of which I'm not a huge fan of. Lauren didn't want anything on the menu, and i just gave in and went with a burger. It was a good burger. Filling; but nothing out of this world. Tastes like one I would make at home. I do like that they use a local meat place for the patty (Eberts meats) that's why I got it. The sodas were in small little bottles. I'm a huge soda drinker so mine was gone in two drinks. They were cute and kitschy just like the decor; but I'd recommend ordering a water with yours. I'll have to go back and try them for dinner. I really want to try the Amish Chicken and shrimp Alfredo. The dinner prices are on the higher side so I'll probably have to wait a while for that. I also wanted to give a big shout-out to everyone for nominating eatingcincy for blog of the year for Best of Cincinnati. It was an awesome surprise to come home from Haiti and see that. You guys are rock-stars!

This is my favorite place for special occasions. Their filet with garlic mashed potatoes is to die for, so tender you can cut the filet with a fork. The atmosphere is unique and welcoming, sit outside on the patio if it is nice out! The pear/blue cheese salad is delicious and you can't go wrong with any of the homemade desserts. If this place was less expensive I would come here much more often, but it is worth every dollar.

I've been dolling out a few 5 star reviews lately, which is not my norm, but when you research where you go first, the odds of having an excellent experience are significantly high! York Street Cafe is a gem, enough so that we're going back tonight after dining there two days ago. We walked in right as they opened in order to get an early dinner so I could be at work by 7:30pm. We were the first customers, and greeted by the whole staff in such a friendly manner. They fawned over our infant, and our server taught us an awesome trick: turn a highchair upside down, and it holds a baby carrier perfectly! The menu is not overwhelming, and it's obvious great thought went into each dish. We started with the Baked Brie Croute, which takes about 20 minutes to make, and comes with baguette, fresh sliced fruits, and a lovely amaretto syrup. We have to make this at home! This would make a yummy snack if you just want a glass of wine and a nosh plate, as it is pretty substantial. I ordered one of their 'signature' dishes: the Amish stuffed chicken. Hold the press. This was absolutely delicious. The last time I had chicken this yummy was at a place called "Spoon" in Pittsburgh, and that was about 3 years ago. My wife ordered the blackened shrimp pasta, which was also delicious, but she demanded we return this week so she can have the Amish chicken all to herself. Trust me, we will. The staff was super friendly, and explained that kids are always welcome. They have a side room with a couch and play area so kids can rain down hell without upsetting the clientele. The decor is eccentric and is all random stuff from American culture past. The location is an old apothecary (pharmacy), and seeing the shelves and bar repurposed is really cool. This is definitely my favorite place in Cincy.....but I'll keep looking for more!

The eggplant Parmesan with herbed spaghetti squash and smoked tomato sauce is one of the better vegetarian dishes I've eaten around town. I'll be back to have it again and next time ill try the Greek Conversation Platter, will need to be some friends for that.

I'm thankful to have found another great dinner spot in Northern Kentucky. I tried Your Street Cafe for the first time this evening and was really glad I quit putting it off. The venue is as unique as their menu and the food is very tasty. I tried one of their new menu additions - the stuffed poblano pepper - and it was amazing. It was stuffed with rice and black beans and smothered in a spicy chipotle sauce with a blend if cheeses served straight out if the oven piping hot. It was incredibly unique. If you don't like a mild heat profile, I'd stay away from this dish, but I was totally into it. My wife ordered the blackened shrimp Alfredo and it was solid - nothing really shines about it, but we had no complaints. We also ordered some appetizers - hummus and Greek spanakopita - both were very tasty but the spanakopita was the real prize winner - it's a must try if you go. Finally, you are missing out if you like key lime pie and don't give their key lime pie a shot. It was spectacular and I was left wanting more. Service was quick and generally kind. If I went back, I might check out the patio area as it looks like an amazing atmosphere to enjoy a nice evening with friends or loved ones. I'm looking forward to going back and trying more things of their menu.

Yorkstreet holds a special place in my heart since this is the spot where my now boyfriend and I had our first date. (We didn't realize it at the time, but their website lists that they were voted best first date spot... We can attest to that!) The atmosphere is very fun and eclectic, and the food... Wow. The dishes I have ordered have all been excellent, and honestly everything on the menu sounds delicious. I don't think you can go wrong here. Some of the entrees are a bit pricey, but you're paying for quality, flavor, and uniqueness. I highly recommend the Mediterranean board. My boyfriend and I split this, and got the butter rum cake for dessert. So satisfying and makes pricing very reasonable. I also recommend the stuffed poblano and my boyfriend raves about how good the veggie burger is. Definitely 5 stars in my book!

Newport is great in the way that it always has new places that blow me away. I had the opportunity to eat here last week. The place, inside a duplex-style building on a York Street corner, is full of books and decorated like an antiques store, giving the entire place a very cozy feel to it. I had the Amish roast chicken, which took a while to cook but was absolutely fantastic. The chicken was moist and flavorful, with a hollandaise-style sauce smothered over the herb-encrusted chicken. the mashed potatoes were smooth and buttery, and the plate came with a delicious portion of steamed broccoli. For dessert I tried their hazelnut torte, which was silky and wonderful and I don't know what happened but it seemed like it was gone in less than ten seconds. I know I'll be back here!

This place has became a gem in my heart. I really loved this place after just one amazing experience. Little places like this just melt my heart every time. Just an out of the ordinary café from an old pharmacist and bank. I love when places like this take new purpose to old stuff. The staff at this place is outstanding, friendly and just downright nice. Our server gave us very good suggestions on what is popular and what he prefers and based on that we went with a couple dishes and we're just amazed. I got pita with hummus for my appetizer and for my meal I got a burger with soup. The hummus was really good and the fresh pita baked right there was to die for. The soup was just wow I love homemade soup and this place knows how to make some homemade soup. The sauce they used for the burger was just I mean amazing, you could ask for anything better with the burger simple but unique at the same time. This is going to become one of my big spots when I go to Cincinnati every month just to get a bite to eat when entering the city.

As many people have pointed out, York Street Café is cool, quirky, and just plain fun to look around in. But more importantly, service is friendly and the food is fantastic (particularly the dirty hummus and the Amish chicken, but I haven't had something I've disliked yet). It can sometimes get cramped/loud on weekends because it's a relatively small space, but I can't exactly fault them for that.

I love to eat at York St. Cafe for lunch on the weekends and occasionally for dinner. We also go sometimes just for dessert! The atmosphere and decorations are very authentic and interesting to look at. The restaurant has a romantic feel and is great for a date night. You have to try their cakes! They are hand made every day with new selections each week. Their spice cakes are my favorite. As for the main course, I love their Mediterranean wrap for lunch. They also have excellent hummus. Try their "dirty" hummus. It is a meal in itself! For dinners, my husband and I will often get a cheese and fruit plate before our meal. We love their brie. Everything is homemade and you can really taste the love the owners and chefs put into their food.
