Good burgers.. A little too huge though. Dare I say 5 guys with more flavor add options?

I work at Newport on the Levee Funnybone. Alot of people ask me where the best Burger place in town is - thinking Ill sAy 5 guys and fries but, I dont. I tell them to walk up half a block and get a killer burger at Mad Mikes!!!! Im a total fan!!!!

If you look at friendly staff they get 10 stars. Nice selection of burgers and price right for what you get. Our group of 10 made a few comments about over cooked burgers but still good. I always like to be asked how I want burger cooked Not all places do that. Sure worth stopping in.

meh, it was okay. The food is good, but nothing attention grabbing. It is basically a family owned 5 guys. I appreciate the clean bathrooms, but for burgers and fries I would recommend other places. The service was good, and the graffiti art was fun to see.

Ive commented on mad mikes before but I've gotta do it again! Went last night and had the walking taco burger ..angus patty, taco meat, cucumber sauce, lettuce, tomato and topped with fritos! So damn good! And they are genuinely concerned that you are happy with their product! And now they have chicken too! Haven't tried it yet ..next time if I can resist the awesome burgers!!

My family's favorite new burger joint! We had 4 different burgers and we all thought they were the best we've had so far in the Cincinnati area.

OH MY GOSH! I don't even know where to start with the deliciousness that I experienced at this restaurant! To say that it puts Five Guys to shame is the least I can say! The burgers we had were SO flavorful and the topping combinations that were available were so creative! Thank you, Thank you, Thank you for opening in Newport. Not only was the food so good, but the prices were fantastic! The staff was very attentive and I just felt all-around good being at this restaurant. I will be back for more, on a regular basis. I'm already thinking of what burger I should have next.....hmmm..... If you love burgers (like I do!) and haven't tried a burger at Mad Mike's yet.....I HIGHLY recommend it! See you soon Mad Mikes!

I am surprised about the high ratings! I ordered a veggie sandwich and my mom ordered a grilled cheese, they both came on ungrilled hamburger buns? The grilled cheese wasn't melted, so it was literally a cold hamburger bun w/ a slice of cheese sitting on it. We called over the waitress and we questioned our sandwiches and she just starred at us, then said well we have bread if you want that, ha yeah!? Not happy

Excellent eatery! I ordered their Hawaiian chicken special and it was absolutely delicious! Their fries were very good too. The two other people in my party really enjoyed their sandwiches too. The place is clean and the service was good. I will definitely be going back.

This guy is hilarious. I can only assume that was Mike I was talking to behind the counter. He was fantastic. Explained everything to us since we'd never been there. The food was solid, no question. We got both chicken and beef burgers, and all were fantastic. The menu isn't that expansive, but it's a reliable burger if you just want something simple for dinner.

We came here the night of the fireworks, and it really had never been very high on my list of places to visit. On fireworks night, though, very few restaurants on Monmouth were open (which I found really strange), so we ended up with Mad Mike's. I was quite pleasantly surprised. The burgers are enormous (especially if you choose the Goliath like my boyfriend did), and extremely delicious. I got one that had cream cheese, jalapenos, cheese, and a fried egg. I really enjoyed it! The fries were also delicious - hot and fresh! Service here was average, and the restaurant definitely could have used some tidying up, but I'm going to hope/assume it was because they were super busy due to the fireworks. I'd definitely come back for the burgers and fries again, and I'll hope it's a little cleaner next time.

This place is everything guilty pleasure eating is about. The building is an old ice cream shop and is quite large. There is even outside seating on the back patio. Food is served in red plastic baskets on red plastic trays. Burgers are huge and filled with greasy, yummy toppings and the French fries are crispy even when topped with bacon, cheese and ranch (which ours were of course). Everything was delicious and I would return when I'm in the mood for some yummy guilty pleasure food!

How did I ever only give this place 4 stars? Definitely my go to burger place in NKY, better than five guys, fresher ingredients, and have had good, quick service consistently as of late.

LOVE. Mushroom burger is amazing. Fries are delicious. Staff is friendly. Went one afternoon and it took over 30 min when there was only one other group of people (4 individuals), who already had their food by the way. Said I would not go back, but went back recently and had a better experience. Not too crowded during the day around 11/12 when we went. Food was good, was made quickly and tasted wonderful.

As stated by other reviewers, there is a huge service problem at this location. The food was really good, better than Five Guys in my opinion. But the lady working the register made me feel like I was really putting her out by being there and ordering. I asked for A1 sauce and she said they didn't have any, even though it was listed on their menu. When I went to grab my food I saw a giant tub of A1 so I asked the guy cooking the burgers and he said they definitely had A1 and gave me some. The lady just looked over and glared at me. The whole time I was there I just felt very unwelcome. However, great food! Burgers were flavorful and seasoned well, and the bun didn't get too greasy or soggy as tends to happen at other burger places.

So delicious. This was the burger I've been waiting for. I had the shroomin with fries, and I savored every bite. I also tried my friend's Rockefeller, which was great! Service was great, too. I don't live near here, but I can't wait to return!

Vegiterian friendly and plenty of meat options for others. Great customer service and very reasonable prices. We came here to grab food before heading to the aquarium where prices will be a lot higher.

Are you a carnivore? You need some Mad Mikes in your life. There is a burger for everyone here. Slab some meat in between two grilled cheese sandwiches and call it a day. Soooo gooood. I'm salivating just thinking about it. The ONLY thing that would make this place even more exceptional than it already is would be if they had fresh jalapeños. I'm just over the pickled kind. Just do yourself a favor and opt out of Five Guys. Come here instead.

First and foremost this place is a Five Giys knockoff. No originality here, just a Five Guys with some speciality burgers and toppings like fried egg and avacado. I visited the Newport location today and the service was lacking at best. First, there was a groupon available but it was only for the locations other than Newport. I was promptly told "We do not accept coupons". Ok, let's move on I thought. I placed my order and while I was ordering a previous customer mentioned the ketchup was out. I notched this because by the time our order was ready (20 minutes later) it was still empty. No ketchup for fried or burgers. Ok, let's move on I thought. It's about the food right? I was utterly disappointed. My burger was bland, and the cheese dog my Wife ordered came with gross nacho cheese instead of sliced cheese like five guys. I understand this can be a personal preference but the nacho cheese was of carnival variety. Straight from a bag or can. After finishing I felt like walking across the street to five guys to put this place in my rear view. My son however wanted to give the bacon ranch cheese fries a go. I know, I should have said no, but I caved. The big sign said above the register advertising them that caught my sons attention said $3.29 so I sent him to the counter with $4.00. He came back telling me e didn't have enough money and that it was $4.11 with tax. .90 cents for tax? So I went up with him and was informed the menu had changed recently and the new price was $3.89. They looked at me an actually wanted $4.11. Even the manager/owner (Pete) came over and told me the same thing until he quickly caught on to the fact that i wasn't having any part of that. I got the fries for the $3.29 price and they were just as bad as I expected them to be. Even my three boys didn't finish them after getting extra ranch on the side. Save yourself the trouble and just stick to Five Guys instead of this wannabe fail at a copy cat.

I like mad mikes the chain, but this location is run by rude staff. They didn't pay attention to the toppings, had to tell them three times all while receiving a heaping helping of attitude. The food was fine. Also, watch out for the fountain near the register. It has a don't touch sign, but my two year old can't read, leaned on it and it fell over, causing him to fall. Thank god it didn't hit him. I mentioned this concern to the order taker and got a look like just read the sign. Seriously???

Mad Mike's is my favorite burger joint in Cincinnati. Considering I went on a 6 month weekend trek of Cincy burger establishments that is saying quite a bit. My criteria for a great burger is that the burger and toppings can be devoured all together in bites and that each one of those bites are delicious. I've eaten almost every burger on the menu and Mad Mike's takes the crown when it comes to overall deliciousness. I love that they crafted their menu to put together topping options for you that really go well together. I've also had most of their chicken sandwiches which are also delicious. The prices are great considering what you get. You can easily get a small fry to share between 2 people. The only thing I wish they had was a bigger beer selection with drafts because what goes better with a giant delicious burger and fries than a giant ice cold beer? I suppose I also wish that giant burgers and fries weren't as unhealthy as they are so I could eat there more frequently...

First time going, but DEFINITELY not the last! I had the Mad Cali and it was to die for! I was amazed at how big it was. It had 2 huge patties with cheese, tons of avocado and tzitziki sauce, which was delicious. I highly recommend this burger to everyone. The fries were perfect. And with tzitziki sauce, it made them even better.

I order this chicken burger at the suggestion of the cook called Which Came First ...comes with a Jalepeno cream cheese , fried egg, mad sauce & lettuce with fries....the presentation of this is like a five guys type....THE BURGER WAS OFF THE HOOK....SO GOOD...excellent choice....

Mad Mike's makes me happy. I don't know why Mike is Mad, maybe he should eat a burger and be happy. Maybe the "mad" is a crazy kind of mad, either way, Mike; eat a burger and chill out. Ok. So this place is located near Newport on the Levee and while in somewhat direct competition with 5 Guys, MM's is a nice alternative with amenities that are not offered at 5 Guys. The menu features a diverse array of burgers with toppings that are found at those well-known semi-gourmet burger restaurants but at a price that can't be beat, often around 7 bucks! What!?! I had the Rockefeller and it had just enough blue cheese that my taste buds were doing back handsprings and wanting more. The 100% black angus beef burger was juicy and perfectly cooked. I can't wait to try out the other creations. I forgot to ask if they can substitute a black bean or veggie burger for the beef. Diego explained the burgers and cooked it as well. Nice guy. Every CC accepted except Amex.

Great food. Very rude cashier. I'm here now and she literally just stared at me without opening her mouth, expecting me to tell her what I wanted. A "hello , may I take your order ? " would have been great. They're currently looking for workers , so this may be improved.

Average burger, great fries. Could use some cleaning. Doesn't look too dirty, everything just felt sticky. I noticed it when I opened the restroom door, then when I sat down at the table my husband said, " everything feels sticky." Weird we both noticed it. I would go back though.

I was a GREAT fan of Mad Mikes and maybe in the future will be again. But 3/4 of the way through lunch today and pulled a long hair from the burger was enough for me. Could eat no more and wanted outta there as fast as i could before i got any sicker. It was a long hair and INSIDE the burger. I don't know what ever happened to hair nets when you prepare food. Any way i loved this place but it is not going to be on my list for a long while.

I really wanted to like this place. Been here a few months ago and loved it. This time was totally different. First the girl at the cash register was completely untrained and it took me over two minutes to straighten out that I really just wanted a mushroom burger, fries and a Coke. Well, they were out of Coke, so I got a root beer. No problem. Then after a few minutes they informed me that they were out of swiss cheese. I also noticed that they hadn't even started to make the fries. The cashier and the cook started to talk between themselves about how it was someones' last day, blaming this for the ordering failures. Frankly, if this is how Saturday at 11:30 AM starts, I am guessing that the whole day is going downhill. I cancelled my order am left. I truly hope that this emerging chain can do a better job of training their employees, and get back to quality and service they used to have

Quickservice/ order at counter burger place. The best burger I have had in years. Zip burger/ Flippdaddys/five guys - certainly subjective but I'm saying not as good as this place. Seriously first time here and like what have I been missing....

Stopped by on our drive through the city. Saw this and decided to stop in. Won't be back. Stopped in at 12:30 PM on a Tuesday and place was empty. That was our first sign. Our food came and I'm like, "oh man, another 5-guys knock-off". Really Mad Mike, couldn't you try something a little different than using the exact same presentation? And then $8.00 for a burger that disappears in the bun? The patty was like a 2.5 oz. garnish inside a huge bun filled with lettuce. My wife had the cod sandwich which was like the small square that we had in elementary school. What a ripoff. The fries were eatable but they seemed like they were cooked in cheap old oil that should have been changed a few days prior. This caused them to be very greasy and unfortunately I could still taste them a couple hours after eating. As we were leaving, I asked the employee who was standing in the dining room watching TV if they like feedback. She said surely they do and would appreciate it. I said for $8.00, the burger should be bigger. She said coldly, "whatever, we weigh them every day". I said, "well, maybe you should make them to weigh more." She replied, "well, that's about the same size as 5 guys". I said, "When someone asks to give you feedback and you say you would like to hear it, just sit there, listen, thank them, and let them walk away. Why argue?" Arrivederci Mad Mike!

It was the best burger I have had in a while. Everyone with me got something different. Mad Mike sauce was great on the burgers and also for dipping their wonderful onion rings! Amazing fries as well.

It was fairly empty on a Saturday evening. I suppose I was expecting more people due to its proximity to Newport on the Levee. They had a special of cheeseburger, fries, and drink for $7.99. Very reasonable. You get to pick all your topping free of charge when building a burger this way. I took a seat and waited for my order to be called. You pick your order up in a brown bag at the counter. The fries were tasty, though I wished they were crispier. The burger was, well, I had a difficult time trying to convince myself I was eating a burger. I could taste the bun and my chosen toppings, but I couldn't taste the beef. Maybe if I give them a second chance, I will order one of the specialty burgers. The eating area was not as clean as I would have preferred. It looked like someone needed to clean both the tables and the floors. I had high hopes since the Yelp reviews were good. But Mad Mike's just did not live up to my expectations.

Not what I expected. Close to the levee and in a cool building, but it just Seemed like a fast food joint. I was expecting more of cool restaurant atmosphere. But here are the details: 1. Ordered one gyro, one soda, one onion ring and one hot dog. $16.50. Pricey. 2. Gyro was average. Onion rings were heavily battered. Hot dog was great! 3. Decor needs work. Doesn't match. Seems random and bare, not eclectic/hip. (Why is there a Marilyn Monroe picture hanging in a fast food joint?). Needs to be cozy or inviting. 4. It's not a place with a server - you get in line and come up when your number is called. 5. Gal ringing up my order was very kind.

Alright, Mad Mikes, show me what you got. // after the visit So, on night 3 we ate at Mad Mike's. I'll give the bottom line first: local touches beat mainstream consistencies. The menu is very entertaining in itself, with tons of options as far as burgers go. Wait time was fine, nothing to write home about as far as quickness. The fries are tasty, and you will get a ton of them. Here's the second-to-bottom line: freshness beats "any old burger." As far as this goes, MM has some improvement in store if they're going to last. The buns on our first visit were a bit lacking in flavor and freshness. // order-out So, we ordered takeout. The freshness has gone a little downhill. The buns were noticeably stale this time around, and it seems that the Avocado (man, I like me some Avocado on anything) was old. Fries were still fine. We shall see what happens with Mad Mike's - I'm not "staying away" but I'm also not making plans to visit intentionally.

They definitely satisfy my burger cravings. I usually tend to eat healthy but sometimes you just have to chuck that all out the window and get a ginormous burger to satisfy your cravings. And yes, they're Five Guyish but I think they do an excellent spin/take and I'm all for supporting the local options. I had the chicken burger before and wasn't as big of a fan, I guess sometimes you just have to stick to the beef classic. This time I ordered a Shroomin (grilled mushrooms, pepperjack, Mad sauce which is like a spicy mayo, lettuce, bacon and fried onion strings) and a regular fry for $9.70ish which I think is right on price-wise for the amount of food you get (it's an 8 oz burger!). I love that they double patty it (two 4 oz patties) to make one 8 oz burger, which allows for a good bit of char on each patty but then you get that satisfying beefy bite. I tend to eat smaller portions so half a burger and a little less than half a regular fry and I was stuffed which makes this perfect to split with a friend. Yes they do offer a smaller version, but then you miss the double patty goodness. It's definitely not a place I eat often, but when you get a burger craving they hit the spot!

This is not quality food it is just slightly higher quality fast food. I was expecting better. I don't eat fast food and thought this place was different but it's just another fast food burger joint but it serves beer. I felt gross after eating the food. I will give them credit the fries were pretty good. The toppings seemed to be higher quality than McDonalds but that isn't hard to do. The burger wasn't even that flavorful so even if it wasn't fast food processed junk I wouldn't eat it. Overall, for the price I expect better quality food and not fast food. Sorry but won't return.

Ate here on Dec 26th and went in prepared for potential short staffing due to holidays but was pleasantly surprised! Great food and good service! What I liked best was the amount of each speciality topping on the burgers, enough for some on each bite. I was not a fan of the fries, they were dry and just small, broken pieces; but the burger more than made up for them! Each person in our party cut their burgers into quarters so that we could try several and each was a winner!

Mad Mike's reminds me of 5 Guys... only a lot better. Their gourmet burger menu is enough to make your mouth water just from reading it alone. I tried the Rockefeller burger and not only was I impressed with how juicy this burger was but WOW the burger was HUGE!! Their idea of a small fry was plenty for my friend and I to share. This place just might be my new favorite burger joint. YUM!!

  • Liz G.

This is a good burger joint, although I would encourage sticking to the basics - burgers, fries. All their burgers we have tried are great with tasty additions fried onions, mango chutney, gyro meat (not all together of course). Fries are good too (skip the cheese fries unless you love nacho cheez whiz) and they have a small but varied selection of bottled/canned beers. The ciabatta bread is a good choice too. Chicken was dry - not worth it at a spot with such tasty burgers. Absolutely worth a try.

  • Elizabeth L.

Definitely not what I expected. I guess I was expecting more restaurant style, but it's actually similar to Five Guys. Just order and they'll call your number. You can add toppings into your burger, or choose one of their gourmet options. They separate their menu by meat: chicken or beef, and I'm sure they had other options (turkey? vegetarian?) but I didn't see. I forgot the actual name of what I got but it has something with "cali" in it-- it's a beef burger with avocados in 'em, and I kind of liked it. The burgers are decently sized and gourmet burgers are about $6-$8. My beau got the Hawaiian and he found it too greasy. Maybe it was the bacon? Fries were good, but not memorable. Curious about their chicken burgers but to be honest, everything was just so average that I think I'd rather venture out elsewhere. Nice to try it out though!

I'm not sure what made Mike so mad that he felt inspired to open a gourmet burger joint, but it's there now so all attempts at counseling and/or anger management evidently failed. Located in the fantastic historic building that a previous Graeters franchisee spent oodles of $$$'s renovating to its former glories, Mad Mike's is but a very short walk from the Levee. As such it is also a very short walk from (presumably) its closest rival, the currently more ubiquitous Five Guys. There's little to tell them apart, although to be fair to MM's they do offer a healthier chicken alternative to many of their fancy offerings and what I feel is a more relaxed environment. I tried the Hawaii-5-0 burger and a (more than satisfactory) small fries. Like Five Guys the burger comes to you foil-wrapped which whilst maintaining its core temperature does result in the food feeling more greasy than it maybe is once you start eating it. Be warned, it is a BIG burger. I'll admit that I have a bit of an aversion to eating with my hands so I resorted to using (or, rather, attempting to use) the supplied plastic knives and forks. I was thus viewed with extreme suspicion by the diners on the tables around me who may or may not have thought about calling the police to report "out of the ordinary behavior" I immediately wished I'd ordered the chicken version, the amount of red meat just too much for my palate. It was tasty enough but not so mind-blowingly tasty that I needed to rearrange my schedule to visit there again in any kind of a hurry. I imagine all these burger joints that are sprouting up to be a little similar to how the industry used to be... before the fast food behemoths rollercoasted their way into our lives (and onto our waistlines) by horribly automating the cooking process and dumbing everything down to the level of lowest common denominator. In that regard I'd FAR much rather spend $9 here for something that at least seems like real food rather than a few bucks less to experience cardboard-tasting corporate homogeneity. But, as always, you pays your money and you takes your choice.

Mad Mikes a pleasant surprise. In the tradition of Fuddruckers and 5 Guys and a Fries but local. My wife had the Bacon Cheese burger I had the Hawaii Five 0 single cheese burger and bacon cheese fries. Self serve fountain drinks with the made to order burgers. Our meals were cooked to perfection served hot and fresh. Over all the food was good. Diego was very helpful to these 2 over 50 customers. At $15 some including me might consider Mad Mikes a little pricey but hey this is the new reality of eating out. We will return.

The tasty burger train keeps on rolling. Make Mike's opened up a second location in Newport near the Levee a while back and it does not disappoint. Mike himself can be found behind the grill many days and is very entertaining to listen to as he dishes out some of the best burgers this side of the river. Lately I've been more into their hotdogs though. Two of these giant-style dogs are more than enough to sate your hungry stomach with their flavorful goodness. Throw in that this location also serves beer and you've got a great spot to start before hitting the Levee's clubs. They're also open late night so stop there when the party is over too.

I've been eating at Mad Mikes at their original location on Dixie Hwy since they opened. I was happy to see another Mad Mike's open close to my office. Last night, we wanted burgers--so, my mom, little one and I headed to Mad Mike's in Newport after a little shopping at Rookwood. The food is great--but the 3 stars is for the music. TOO LOUD. Bouncing off the tile floors and 15 foot (or more) metal molded ceilings. When I thought I could take some respite from it in the restroom, it was even louder, if you can imagine. So, stuck in a bathroom with cement and tile and REALLY LOUD CLASSIC ROCK. Just too much. I'll be back, but they need to turn down the tunes--as much as it pains someone under 40 to say that, it's the truth.

So I immediately loved the ginormous menu plastered on the wall for all to see. It gave an in-depth description of all of the burgers offered - including all ingredients, which is great for food-sensitive folks like myself. I also liked the self-serve fountain drinks - always a plus. Moving on - it was very crowded during lunchtime, in fact, we waited at least 12 minutes for a table to open up. There isn't a lot of room or really seating, so I wouldn't recommend for a large group during lunch or dinner time. The food... it was okay. I ordered the grilled cheese and cheesy bacon ranch fries. The fries were cooked perfectly, however, I was not impressed with the amount of ranch or bacon. The cheese was great - enough to get on each fry without causing them to become soggy. The bacon was chopped a little large, meaning I got five or six chunks, but not enough to cover my fries. And the ranch was almost non-existent. I think four fries (out of a nice-sized portion) had ranch. Bummer too because it was TASTY! I would have asked for more, but they were packed and moving a little slow. My grilled cheese was a bit soggy - not as grilled as I would have liked and there was a little too much cheese to make it super yummy. I'd like to go back and try one of their famous burgers. Maybe a late lunch/early dinner so I can sit comfortably.

Decent burgers but a bit overpriced. I have been here twice and each time when I hear how much my bill is I wonder why did I spend all of this money. But besides the price being a bit high, the gourmet burgers are tasty and I do enjoy the fries. The staff is friendly which makes for a pleasant visit. I will go back as the different types of burgers are fun, maybe I just need to not be so cheap :)

Hubby brought this back via a to-go order and everything was smokin' hot and fresh. I had the double bacon cheese somethin....one of the showcase burgers. Leave it to me to say sauce on the side, mustard, onion, pickle only. The beef is hands down the best in the city, burger wise....the buns are really good too. Fresh cut fries that are not remotely greasy (as a lot of fresh cut fries can be) these folks have their fryer turned up to the proper temp. Delicious , fresh ingredients all the way around. In the future I will opt for a normal burger vs. A 'special' as all the specials are doubles....and being big ass legit patties 2 can be a little too much for lighter appetites. But even with 2 they had the toppings perfectly juxtaposed. They do it right. Check these folks out!!!!

My wife and I ordered the texas burger. The burgers were well prepared and what I would expect from a burger joint. This isn't healthy food by any means, but certainly good. I mean deep fried bacon is not on anyone's cardiac diet. I will say that the cheddar bacon ranch were just a little over the top though...

Finally, a Mad Mike's closer to my work! If you've read my other Mad Mike's reviews, you'd know how much I love their burgers and fries. I make it to the Dixie Highway location whenever I need to get my fix. Luckily, I now have this Newport spot and there's even another Florence location! The food here is exactly the same as the original. The Rockefeller burger is just as awesome here, and the fries are just as addicting and plentiful. They now even offer pretzel and ciabatta buns, although they are 89 cents more. I had my Rockefeller on a pretzel bun, and it took it to a whole new level! I'll be getting more of those in the future, that's for sure. The prices of their burgers have gone up 50 cents each (at least 50 cents more than what their website lists). I'm not sure if that's for every location or just the Newport one. My pretzel-bun-laden Rockefeller, regular fries, and drink came out just over $12. It seems like a bit much, but the amount of food you get is insane, and it's all fresh and of the highest quality. Don't bother with a large fry, because the regular is enough for 2 people, or one fat guy like me. There is no parking lot, but there's a pay lot across the street, and a meter spot shouldn't be too hard to find unless it's a weekend evening. Come check this place out, the deliciousness awaits!

Located in the old Graeter's building, Mad Mike's is a great alternative to dining at the Levee. Came here with a group of 8 plus a baby after catching a movie on a Sunday afternoon. Had no problems pushing a bunch of tables and chairs together. TV was on showing NFL playoffs. I had the Hawaii Five-o which was delicious. My husband got his burger on a pretzel bun for $.89 more. They also have beer available - draft, import, and domestic bottles.
