Very good food! Echtes deutsches Essen! This place has the best German food you can find in the area. The service was pretty slow since they are understaffed because the café is beginning to become more and more popular. Would highly recommend it.

I stopped by Katharina's Cafe-Konditorei for lunch today and had an extremely positive experience. In my brief time in the Fort Thomas / Newport area, this is by far the best lunch experience I have had. My wife and I were looking to try a new spot this afternoon since we both had some free time and we were celebrating our 9th wedding anniversary; we also had our two 6 month old twins with us, so "kid friendly" was also an important factor for where we chose. After reading a few positive reviews, we chose to give Katharina's a try. When we walked in, it didn't immediately scream "kid friendly". The small dining area had roughly 12 table tops (so very quaint), pleasant / classical music was playing in the background, the establishment was well decorated, and noise was minimal. I asked the manager / owner if the kids being there were ok, and she assured me it was with a smile (if I saw any hesitation, I would have gladly left since I don't want to be "that parent" that brings their kid to an inappropriate restaurant and ruin the experience of others). We found out with little investigation that the entire place is family owned and operated - everyone from the wait staff to the cook are all closely related. That made for a very seamless and very caring service experience. From the moment we walked in, to the moment we walked out, we were treated as if we were at a family gathering; each of the staff / family members came over to our table to say hi to our children and I even met another family member that wasn't working on my way out that asked me about my experience. We felt right at home and we most certainly felt like they cared. As for the food - we were very pleased, and as I mentioned, this was the best lunch I have had since I have moved to Northern Kentucky. My wife ordered the Chicken Salad, which was served on a fresh baguette. We are generally tough critics of chicken salad, and were blown away by the flavor (dare I say this is the best chicken salad I have ever had?). I ordered the special of the day, which happened to be a Spaghetti Bolognese, and it too hit the spot - you could tell that a lot of time and attention was put into making the sauce and it was the perfect portion size for lunch (not to big and not too small). The salad that accompanied my Spaghetti Bolognese was simple and fresh and dressed in a very unique vinaigrette that was unlike anything I had ever tasted; both my wife and I were left wanting more! We also split the Caprice Salad as an appetizer, and it was also tasty. Finally, given how great our meal was, we decided to order desert; we had the Mandarin cream Torte and the Nussecken ("Nutcorners"). The Mandarin cream Torte was light, creamy, sweet and just enough citrus to please us both. The Nutcorners were unlike anything I have ever had and accompanied the latte I ordered with desert. Great experience for us - I can't wait to go back!

A family run business with a cozy and welcoming atmosphere. Modern, and decorated beautifully. My husband and I stopped there with my parents and my little niece (who was asleep when we arrived). The hostess was friendly and so considerate to bring the little one a plate and cup of water! We had the tomato soup and the Nudeln mit Fleischsosse, both delicious. Wish we lived in Cincinnati area so we could make Katerina's a favorite routine!

I love this place. The food is always good. Coffee is the way I like it, very European. The whole family and staff are great, and Elena is the best!!!!

If I could give more than five stars, I would. If I could come here weekend after weekend, I would. The only thing that's stopping me is that we don't live in the greater Cincinnati/Tri-State area. The restaurant itself is small, but beautifully designed and welcoming, with warm 'recovered' wood floors and wood tables and lovely sage-colored walls. The kitchen and counter area are meticulous and the bread case stuffed with delicious-looking treats. The service was beyond great in a way that exceeds the usual "our server was friendly and attentive" kudos. You can tell they put love into their restaurant. We visited twice in our short trip, and at various points in both visits were served by the two sisters who own the restaurant. In all cases, they treated us more like guests who were visiting their home than customers. And both were very charming. For example, when my wife asked about the mettwurst sausage, she told us it had come from a man who they found who makes real German meats -- complete with a cute anecdote about her driving out to find him through the country and how she would play her radio so loud to make the time pass on the trip. At one point on our visit to get the German style breakfast (more on that in a bit), the whole family trundled in and we got to talk to the husband, who chatted with us like we were just friends who happened to stop by. Did I mention their mom is the chef? The whole affair seems like something you would find in a heartwarming film about a café in the European countryside. And yet, everything seems very modern as well. As far as the food: absolutely wonderful German fare, mixed with European Continental (in that some items seem Italian and French influenced). Our first visit was a late lunch. A friend of ours had the Mettwurst plate (a "mettwurst" spicy sausage, potato salad and a bröchten roll) - which is almost straight-line German. It was very good. The potato salad was the slightly vinegary variant that is authentic and satisfying. My Tortellini in Rahmsosse (tortellini in a ham and parmesan cream sauce) was absolutely delicious. The various coffee concoctions - in particular "Katharina's Eiskaffe" (espresso with ice cream) were great. However, what we really were hankering for was saved for our second visit: Katharina's Frühstück (aka breakfast). We got the version for two for about $28, but all four of us happily consumed it and left satisfied. Flaky, buttery croissants. Rye bread. Rolls. Paper-thin slices of cheese. Thinly sliced breakfast meats including ham and salami. Freshly squeezed orange juice. Smoked salmon with a dill tartar cream sauce. It felt like we were back in Germany. Visit Katharina's. Visit often. It is a wonderful family owned café that serves wonderful food.

Everything was fantastic at this awesome place! Very cool atmosphere--it feels like home. I didn't understand a lot of the words on the menu but the waitress helped with that. The service was great--refreshing compared to most experiences these days. The coffee, pastries, sandwiches, and croissants were to die for. Only problem is it is not open on Sunday!

Authentic. Delicious. Friendly. We had the breakfast for 2, and everything was delicious. Fresh housemade breads, an excellent fruit salad, fresh squeezed orange juice, artisan meats (loved the Black Forest ham). Service was better than attentive, it was personal. Awesome. Plenty of parking on the street in this quiet neighborhood in Newport.

Very authentic small German cafe. It's a family business and I really appreciate their work and the possibility to speak German. Also, very good bread!

I am in love with this cafe! Super cute, quaint, set outside of the hustle and bustle tucked away on a residential street...you won't feel like you're in Newport. Their homemade pastries look straight out of a magazine. I had the chicken salad served on a homemade baguette. I loved the cucumber and hard-boiled egg in their recipe...it was absolutely delicious. My friend showed me pictures of their food selection for lunch/dinner and it looks just as amazing so I can't wait to go back. What else can I say other than try this place out immediately!

Cincinnati has German roots but unfortunately lacks good, authentic German food. Until now that is. I lived in Germany for 5 years and it's been a long while since I've had good German food like this. On a busy day you'll find Elena, her sister and sometimes their father serving tables. The dining room is somewhat small and when they get busy, it's standing room only and the service may be slow. It always takes the food a little while to come out, as it is made fresh and with care by Elena's mama. The menu is small but what they offer, they cook and fix well. The food has been consistently delicious and well proportioned. Each visit here has proven that the food is worth the wait.

This hidden little cafe is beautiful and so charming! Perfect example of how Yelp helps you find places you wouldn't otherwise know about. When you walk inside, you feel like you might have been transported to a cafe in Europe. The space has wonderful high ceilings, a lot of beautiful wall paneling, and at the back of the room you'll see a table with Katharina's fresh baked baguettes and rolls. The long side counter includes a display case of gorgeous and delicious looking cakes, and a vintage-looking espresso machine. Outside, there are little tables with umbrellas that would be perfect for a nice spring lunch. There are lots of big windows at the storefront, and the entire restaurant feels airy and sunny. I need to come back and try more things on the menu. For my first time, I ordered the Katharina salat to go. It was really good prosciutto and an interesting mix of greens, almond slivers, fried (?) figs, and parmesan. I'm not sure if I felt like it was worth the 12.50 but then again, aren't salads everywhere almost always a little overpriced? The prosciutto was delicious, though a little awkward to eat in the long slices with a salad. The baguette slices really made my day. I could eat them endlessly. Perfect crust/chewiness balance. Next time I am determined to go back for a sandwich on baguette or hard roll, though the roll sandwiches seem small (maybe with a soup you'd have a complete meal). And a coffee. And a dessert. Or maybe their special drink- espresso with vanilla ice cream! Mmm. I want to go back already.

It was sooo good we went two times in 24 hours. Once for cake and coffee and then the next day for breakfast. The owners are German and make their breads in-house. We lived in Germany for many years and this is the BEST place in the USA for a perfect European breakfast or treats. The place is so beautiful. The family is so friendly. We want to live next door!

This will transport you back into Germany, into a beautiful small corner of Munich or Dresden (or wherever you may have been in Germany) it will make you reminisce and love every moment of your past and present experience with Germany. Highly highly recommended and definitely really enjoyable. Their portions are not the portions typical for Americans, so if you're expecting a pile-high portion, be prepared for European style portions and order more than 1 thing.

Very cute small cafe serving German style breakfast/brunch/lunch. Owned and ran by Germans, so the food is authentic and really home-made. Having lived many years in Germany, it is always nice to step in and have some 'kuchen' or 'frühstück' :) The cakes are much less sweet and colourful than American, yummy! The bread is baked daily and tastes amazing. This place makes me very nostalgic :) Keep it up! One small remark: the coffee could be a bit more European = stronger :)

Great atmosphere at this small cafe. We went for lunch and our food was great. The place was full, and everyone's food looked great. We had great service and our waitress made for a great experience and we look forward to trying their breakfast and evening menu. It looked they had a nice selection of German beers. The deserts looked pretty tasty, too.

"German Coziness" is how the owner, Elena Williams, describes Katharina's and I agree. When I saw the sign go up that a new cafe was coming soon I was curious and excited. Katharina's is a quick walk for me and I'm always delighted to have new options within walking distance. The view from the street is so appealing and inviting and I was pleased to find that the food and atmosphere did not disappoint. I decided to stop in for lunch on a sunny April afternoon when I had the luxury of a day off in the middle of the week. It wasn't super crowded so I took the front table in the window and ordered an ice tea. For lunch, I chose the chicken salad on a baguette and it was very satisfying. The staff made me very comfortable and it's a wonderful place to sip espresso and visit with friends in the neighborhood. I met a lovely man whose name escapes me but I am sure next time I visit I will find hime there again. He is among the many regulars that have already claimed this as a favorite hangout. During my next visit I will explore their breakfast options , and then lunch, and so on and so on. Guten Abend Red Pearl

Delicious food, cozy atmosphere and great service. The dishes were not huge but definitely filling. I got a pumpkin spice latte and unlike many places that use syrup, they make their own homemade syrup and home made whip cream. We were there for breakfast but can't wait to go back again to try lunch and dinner!

Bill and I were delighted to find this Cafe in the heart of the renovated area of Newport, KY. We shared a Fruhstuck with salmon, fresh deli meats, smoked salmon, scrambled eggs, fresh fruit and 2 of the freshest baguettes and rolls. Such a hidden away charm on Overton St in the heart of the quaint residential district in Newport.

We have been here for each meal and love them all! Just today we went for breakfast and had the Newporter and an almond croissant. The meats are delicious along with fresh-baked bread. The coffee is also good and served beautifully in a pot with a mug and glass of water. The service is also quick and they always do a nice job explaining the dishes. We have tried several of the German cakes--amazing! I have yet to find another restaurant with these types of delicious, layered cakes in Cincinnati. Katharina's is a lovely neighborhood spot that we will keep coming back to and recommend to anyone!

This place is so adorable. Love the European atmosphere and the awesome decorations. The family that runs it is very personable and passionate. All of the breads are baked fresh in the kitchen. The Baguette was my favorite but the wheat that came out warm was also tasty. We shared their Bronzittler platter which was more than enough to share. It was a platter of meats, cheeses, and spreads. The remoulade (I think) was my favorite. It was a cream cheese base that was obviously seasoned in house. It was quite tasty. The potato salad was good as well. It had large pieces of bacon. We also got some pastries to go. Yum. The only thing that could have made this place better is better spreads for the bread. The marmalade, butter, and honey come out in the little prepackaged containers. Wish they had gone for something a little more inserting like a local vendor or even something fun from Jungle Jims. Excited to come back for the other menus.

Great place in Newport off the street in residential area. Parking on the street is so easy to find. Fantastic food and superb bakery. Just talked to the owner they make it fresh every day so check what is available.

Well, I've been in Cincinnati for 10 months and finally have found a place that possibly is run by someone who knows how to cook, 'food', as in that stuff you eat. The special was 86'd which admittedly made me sad. Kassler, I think it was, which is some sort of german pork cut, with white beans and sauerkraut. That sounded like the man food I've been searching out. Instead I had the mettwurst. It came with a german style roll and potato salad. The potato salad was delicious. Not a word I use lightly. And someone knows how to season with subtlety. The mustard was of seemingly high quality. There were two sausages and they were of decent quality as well. They had good texture and were well spiced. To drink, I paid $3 or so for a strawberry lemonade which, surprisingly, was worth it. I'll be back. Hopefully next time I can have some delicious german classic that's on special.

Katharina's Cafe-Konditorei is a little piece of Germany in the middle of a quaint residential neighborhood in Newport, KY. It really does feel German- you can hear German being spoken by the staff and by some of the customers. The interior is nice and tastefully decorated. We stopped by for breakfast and ordered Katharina's Frühstück for 2 people. It's served on a stand that holds three plates of food, smoked salmon and scrambled eggs, fresh fruit, and variety of deli meats with some cheese. It comes with a basket of a couple of types of bread to eat with the meats. Having deli meat for breakfast is a little different, but it was nice to try the different meats with the bread and cheese. It made for a relaxing and fun type of meal. Our server was an older gentleman and he was so very nice. He made it feel like we were visitors at home. We enjoyed the experience and will definitely be going back. Katharina's is not a big place so as word gets out it might get crowded at peak times since there are not a lot of tables.

This place has some great cookies and authentic German delicacies. The location is perfect but the interiors are a bit Dolce Gabanna style. So it is great place to go and grab a coffee when you feel like going to a fancy place, but it is not your regular neighborhood cafe where one can go in pyjamas and work while sipping coffee
