Calzones, pasta, pizza, decent wine list for a red sauce place. Owner from Sicily. My family likes the ganveri taverna pasta: shrimp, garlic, marinara with a little cream. I like the Chicken Parm.

As a local this place is one of the best in morehead. The food is great and the service good. If out of town folks come to visit This is one of the two places I will take them. I do recommend Melini's! Highly!

Me and the squad rolled up looking really nice hoping to get sorted out with some of that real nice calzone and pizza action. Service was on fleek as we were promptly seated and received our refreshing fountain beverages. Bread was cheesy and pizza was large and in charge - enough to satisfy my manly appetite for dairy and grain products. In and out of the restaurant and back at work within an hour to crush some more office tasks! Way to go! I'll be back when I feel the tummy grumble of hunger yall.

I've been coming here for years, and the more adventurous your choices, the more surprising the results. I can remember a time when I would only get the basics: spaghetti and meatballs, lasagna -- all of which is great. But LIVE A LITTLE when you try this place. Look for something unusual. My favorite dish, by far, is their chicken ravioli. A cheesy, tomatoey sauce, a distinctive, flavorful filling -- it's just perfect, and reasonably priced. Another thing? This is an Italian place? But they make the best steak in town. Try the flat iron steak, medium rare, perfectly seasoned. It pairs well with mushrooms and their potato salad, but go nuts and pick what you like. No one makes steak like these people do. I was only ever unimpressed with two dishes I've ordered. The first was their rack of lamb, and it might have been an off night. A tiny, tiny rack, on an enormous bed of noodles in marsala sauce, it was just highly unbalanced, but with a larger portion of meat, larger emphasis on mushrooms, and a much much smaller portion of pasta, it would have been perfect. The second was their Penne A Salmone, and in fairness, that may just be a difference in tastes. I just don't think smoked salmon goes with marinara.

Passing through Morehead and tried this place because of the great reviews. They had lots of great vegetarian options, which was awesome. I got the veggie calzone and my husband got the baked ziti. The calzone was amazing and enormous -- lots of cheese and veggies inside. Baked ziti was ok but not as good as the calzone. Service was super friendly and fast. Would definitely go here again if we are in the area.

Beautiful on the inside. Great food. Great service and a very nice calm atmosphere. The food is a bit pricey. So it's not a weekly thing for most people. But you get great quality food well worth your money. Fresh ingredients and hot well prepared food.

Good and Bad: read full review for specifics. Get the calzone. Dont get the cheesy sticks. Small town Italian food, no heavy seasoning. Overall i would try it again, knowing now what not to get. Food: 5/10 be careful what you order. We got the free bread, cheesy sticks(mozzarella sticks), calzone, spaghetti and meatballs and a side of Italian sausage. The free bread was generous but not worth eating, way to plain and dry. I would suggest the place make bread rolls from the same dough they use for the calzones which was soft and moist and covered in a great galric butter. Skip the calories unless you just cant wait for your food. The cheesy sticks (mozzarella sticks covered in more cheese and marinara) BAD. Do not even bother. These could have been good cause it seemed homemade. But the breading...blech! It tasted musty. My guess is its stored in an open container in a fridge. Spaghetti and meatballs were average but good. Their marinera is tasty and not too sweet. 4 meatballs larger than golf balls. Noodles were good except one thing: they clearly bake this dish to melt the cheese- bad idea, any noodles not covered in sauce get tough and chewy. I suggest the place use a torch to melt the cheese in the future. Side of Italian sausage comes on small plate in thin slices. About 1 or less sausage worth. The slices are nice and can be incorporated with the other dishes well. These had good flavor. Not too greasy. They seem to bake them, which gave them good texture. The calzone was great, and i would return for another. I requested mine undercooked because i prefer a really floppy dough, and it came just as i ordered without being too underdone. Flavorful spread on top likely garlic butter with seasoning and parmesan. Generous cheese. Big enough to stuff yourself and still have a tiny bit left over. Don't change a thing: this was perfect. Atmosphere: 7/10 simple and classic. Table cloths are a nice touch. Not too loud. But too dark, the manager/owner closed the blinds when he sat us(which was a nice gesture to keep the sun out of our eyes) but over all it left the room without enough warm lighting. Cleanliness: 8/10 clean tables with glass over table cloths. Carpeted floors looks vacuumed. Blinds had no dust. Only three concerns: the front room we walked though to the host stand reeked of chlorine. The health dept score was an 87% but wasnt posted where you could get close enough to see why. And the dessert menu on the table was sticky. Service: 8/10 friendly and fast. Drinks were refilled before they ever emptied. Check came without request. Questions were answered directly. Orders were accurate.

The food is awesome but what makes this place special is a waitress named Whitley. She is a very good waitress and this place would not be the same without her.

This restaurant was a great find! The service was friendly and the food was great! The menu had lots of delicious choices. Everyone was completely satisfied (we had a group of 10). Our waiter was fantastic and was always around to refill drinks and was very quick to get our orders. I was skeptical at first when I read some reviews but I disagree with any negative ones. I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone! I came with a group of people from Michigan and we left completely happy with out choice!

Zuppa. Seafood zuppa with angel hair pasta and red sauce... mmm... I mean, that's what I like but you really can't go wrong. They give you breadsticks while you are waiting (that's a plus for those of us who get cranky without food). The desserts ... they are fabulous! My sister in law loves the "Chocolate Frenzy" and brother is a fan of the Terimisu. The food is really is good and the service can vary.

Outside of place definitely doesn't say "great food in here." Friendly staff, nice menu, and good food. Would go back again.

For being in a tiny town, I was pleasantly surprised with this place. My family, who lives in the area, suggested it.. It's a small restaurant in an old building. I was skeptical as we walked in. They sat our group of 12 quickly because the place was empty. However the service was still very slow; I mean painfully slow. They serve you bread with red sauce with your drinks. They have a large menu with vegetarian options, pizza, calzones, and traditional pasta dishes. The calzones are HUGE and enough to share. The dough was light and airy, pretty good. No one in my family was ultra impressed with the food. It was good, but not to write home about. I'd say this place would be like Olive Garden as far as menu options and quality. If you're in town and looking for an affordable, enjoyable meal I would suggest stopping in.

I ate at this place right at noon on a Saturday. Just down the street there were hundreds of people at the university for a high school marching band competition. This place was empty. Why? It's ugly as sin on the outside with barely a sign. I guess locals no about it. Most of the band participants walked right by it. They lost out. It's a nice place serving quality food at a decent price. My wife and I ordered a calazone each. Huge and flavorful. Way too big for a lunch item (or dinner item) but we each ate half and saved the other half for dinner. Mine was the spinach. I had a suspicion the spinach was frozen but if so it didn't mess with the flavor too much. My daughter had a nice al Fredo. She liked it. The staff was friendly and got us seated however the orders too quite a while. We weren't in a hurry at all so it was no problem but you might want to skip this place if you are looking to be somewhere. I would have given the place 5 stars but for one incredibly obnoxious item. A guy who looked to worked there but I didn't see him actually working came out and turned on both TVs in the bar area. With the added noise the customers (mostly women and teenage girls) had to speak a little louder. This guy watches two screens of sports for about 4 minutes then walked away. Of course, I hate TVs in restaurants. I especially hate them when they are turned on. I become incredibly irate when no customer asks them to be turned on but the staff wants to catch some scores. Anyway, because of my anti-TV stance, I carry a TV-B-Gone. Once the employee went back to the kitchen I turned the tubes off. A half hour later he comes back out again, turns them on, watches for a few minutes then walks away leaving them on. I normally deduct one star for TVs in restaurants. This jerk earns this place a two star deduction.

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
