Havana Rumba Menu

Sorry, We are updating this restaurant menu details.

Havana Rumba is always a treat. You can always expect high quality food. Today I joined a friend for lunch. Their lunch menu is very good and you may also order from the dinner menu. My friends pescado was nicely grilled. It was moist and flavorful. I settled on one of my favorites Tostones Con Pollo. It never disappoints. As we are all trying to eat better, I requested a side of black beans. I must be out of touch or something, a side was delivered as you would expect. However it was placed on the ticket as an entree for $4.00. So my friend and I had a bill of $29. The only beverage was one tea. With tip $35. Does anyone else think this is a bit much for lunch? I guess the $4 beans was the straw. I did inquire to our server, since they are more expensive than a bowl of soup and other items. She said yes $4. I am going to try to attach a picture of what $4 beans look like. So you won't get the surprise I did.

One of my favorite places to eat in Louisville. Both locations are good, but the middletown location has much more room and can accommodate large groups. I love the swai fish, pork (Lechon asado), and chimichuri steak. The guacamole and plantain chips are great. The only thing I don't like is the yucca. I don't think it's the way they cook it. I think I just don't like it.

Everything about this place made me happy. I felt like I was back in Miami/Brasil again. Great music/atmosphere. We got sangria, the mix margarita/sangria, and the capirhinia. They were not shy with the alcohol. Nice service, great food. We ordered 2 appetizers. They totally kicked our *ss*s! No room for entrees. We had ceviche and the house specialty appetizer, don't remember the name but it was 20.99 and had everything. My only regret is we don't live closer cuz we would definitely visit more frequently!

I'm so sad it's taken me this long to finally try Havana Rumba! I've been shying away from Cuban food since I had a Cuban sandwich at Bahama Breeze on my 21st birthday. But the feelings from that could have very well been due to the rest of my evening activities... I digress. I met up with a girlfriend here this evening and we both had the pollo fricase. It was so tasty! I'd heard the beans and rice were also good and I thought they were out of this world. I wasn't too keen on the fried plantains though, but I'm weird about food texture. The service was excellent. Our waiter was very friendly and attentive. With my entree and a beer, my total meal came to just over $20. Excited to come back and try a margarita and some other menu items!

I love going to Havana Rumba. It's like home cooking with a Spanish flair. I have had almost everything on the menu and liked them all except for the fish. I found it to be on the slimy side for fish but I liked how it was season. I just wish they used another type of fish. Their appetizers and deserts are also great.

The place is always packed. The food is always good. Not to high and the Middletown location has a great patio. I get the Vegetables. My son and husband Love the steak.

Just amazing. I left thinking "how soon can I return to try other menu items?" I will add details later, but everything was amazing we had. Service not the best. Kind of rushed and inattentive. They need an upgrade here. Wine list has a nice selections at very affordable prices. But two bottles I selected were unavailable. Live music is ok but be sure to set away from the speakers if you want to at least hear yourself think. One waiter was wearing Pinaud Clubman, which I thought was cool.

Love this place! I always stop here when in Louisville. Food is always good and great atmosphere. Try the Ropa Vieja or Pollo Fricase

Here from out of town. Decided to try this place because of the reviews and for something different. No Cuban restaurants in my town. All I can say is this place has amazing food. Atmosphere was great. Service was great too but the food, WOW. I want one in my town. I would be a regular.

Sunday Evenings in the winter are nice and empty. My party if 8 enjoyed dinner, drinks and dessert... And LOUD Drums to say happy birthday to our friend. I don't think I will have the calamari again (mushy) and the Margaritas are sweeter than normal so if that's what you like order it for sure. Our dinner was the Chicken Milanese (Cuban Style) and it was TASTY! Tres Leches is also DIVINE. Service is decent, not amazing but over all a good enough dinner experience that wouldn't prevent me from returning. NOTE: Its the POND that smells, not the restaurant.

Talk about a sexy place for a date. You walk in and are greeted by the sweet sounds and smells of Cuba. we made reservations and it didn't take long to be seated. the restaurant is dimly lit. We ordered our appetizer, shrimp scampi Cuban style it was delicious! our food came and we both ordered chicken. the food and service are amazing!

The pork and yucca was to die for, and the plantains were fantastic. Huge portions so I turned leftovers from dinner into a terrific lunch the next day. Ambience great, service was speedy and friendly and the sangria was yummy.

Consistent, yummy, and friendly service. Lots of options on the menu, and the margaritas ain't shabby either.

I read all of the reviews and I have to say the food and service was better than a four.... I couldn't give a Five because the waitress brought the wrong salad and forgot the appetizer, HOWEVER, she then brought the right salad, (so we had two), and the manager didn't charge us for either of them! And both apologized and truly, nothing like that bothers me when the staff try so hard to fix it, The food is very very tasty. We ordered the salad tropical, fabulous!!!, and obviously, I also got to try the salad with roasted peppers and almonds, which as also very good. My daughter ordered the green fish, or pescado de parilla, which I kept eating!!! The fried plantains on the side are amazing, We ordered the flambeed bananas for dessert. They make this amazing homemade caramel with the bananas that's to die for!

Amazing food, friendly service, great atmosphere. Good place for special occasion like birthday dinner. Loved the filet mignon skewer- the menu was right in that it's so tender you don't need a knife. Even the beans are great. Will be back to try the sandwiches

First trip to this restaurant (Shelbyville Rd location). Inside had a very festive atmosphere, there is tons of seating, large parties were dining, looked good. I was seated fast, the waitress was friendly and told me everything was good on the menu. I ordered the Lechon Asado. This was supposed to be the "famous" Cuban pork marinated in citrus, garlic and Cuban spices. Wow, I was quite disappointed. The pork was truly flavorless and was served in a huge heaping ball. It would have been good smothered in some BBQ sauce and turned into BBQ pork. I was expecting something spiced, not hot, but with a punch of flavor. The pork served with this dish was not what I expected. For my side items I had black beans and yuca con mojo. The black beans were done right, served very hot with a great tasting herbal base that really made the flavor come alive. Thumbs up. The yuca con mojo was served traditional style and was supposed to be marinated in garlic, lime, and olive oil. It really tasted like a big pile of flavorless mush. I mean, there was no taste, it was mushy, stringy, and blah. Again, I expected it to have some really punchy flavor like I thought the pork should have had as well. Not the case. I would definitely try the food again, there are a ton of menu items that sound good. I should have plundered the Yelp reviews a little more carefully to find out what other folks were recommending.

I so wish there was a Havana Rumba closer to where I live, but I'm willing to drive the 2 plus hours again to get my fix. I wasn't super familiar with Cuban food, other than that I knew I loved plantains and Cuban rice. Havana Rumba has all of that plus more! Though we arrived on a busy Saturday night, the wait was about an hour. We waited at the bar and got to order some drinks and appetizers. Holy Batman-- the appetizer sampler (tapeo criollo) was amazing! From the empanadas and tamales to the croquettes... drOOL... everything was so good. Plus, we got a basket of bread that was warm and soft. Once we got seated at a table, we were all pretty stuffed but the menu looked so amazing we still ordered a few entrees. We got the steak chimichurri that was LEGIT. It was enough food to share. We also got the pescado a la parilla that I didn't think would be all that special but seriously was!!!!! I can't say enough about this place. It was a festive vibe, with people singing for people's birthdays and the food was so delicious. Though entrees were about $15 on average.. I felt the portions were generous. Can't wait to return to Louisville and hit this place up again!

I hosted my wife's 50th birthday party last Friday and the staff was able to get our table ready almost immediately, which was appreciated. The food was excellent. Service was timely, considering our group of 25, and the service staff was very friendly. We had the tostones de pollo as an appetizer and it was very good. Big enough for a meal. The guacamole with plantains was very good. For entree, I had the Lechon Asado and it was fantastic. The pork was so tender and flavorful! I also tried the Ropa Viejo (shredded beef) and it was also very good. I think everyone enjoyed their dinners. No complaints at all. Also, the mojito was very good (get it muddled). I wish I could go more often.

HOLY COW!!!!! Okay so I have never been to a Cuban restaurant before so I cannot really compare this restaurant to others. However I can tell you all about my experience. Within an hour or so the restaurant was packed and very popular. The food was absolutely amazing, I cannot even begin to explain the seasons used on my fish and the tenderness of the pork that a girlfriend got. The black bean soup was great over their rice that was creamy and a great match with the fish and pork. We topped all of this off with a REAL mango mojito served with a fresh cane stick that made for a yummy sweet topping for the drink. Needless to say this will be yet another MUST GO TO spots in Louisville. The choices of spices (not spicy) but flavorful, great pricing, good service and awesome drinks this is a great place for either a mid-day lunch and getaway from work or a start to a girls night out with great food.

Just passing through on our way to Memphis and went here for dinner and a drink. Was not disappointed. Service was good, food was good and drinks were great! Wish this place was in my hometown it would become a place I frequent. The only reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 is because the steak we got in the dinner for two had a lot of grizzle in it and the chicken was very salty. Even still it had good flavor.

  • Janet L.

The service was alright, the food was also just a-ok. There's plenty of parking in the lot out front and the servers are prompt and are willing to explain what the different dishes are. However, I wouldn't say that the food (in terms of spices, flavor, and/or tenderness of meats) wowed me or anything. If you're looking for a place to satisfy your Cuban cuisine cravings and are in the area, I'd say go for it, however, I wouldn't necessarily go out of my way to come here.

MR says... "good to be back" MRS says... you know that feeling of being thirsty? well, let's make this simple. we've been craving - hungry for Havana Rumba for many many months. like an athlete needing a sports drink. just like what MR said, it's really good to be back. this is the extention of Oechsli location ... Havana is such a success that this second location is as packed and loud, exciting and well celebrated restaurant. any food on the menu is superb. my all time favorite appetizer is the guacamole served with fried thinly sliced plantains. i usually get vaca frita but since its lent, im giving up meat all together for 40days. the grilled fish is fresh and flavorful. loving the herbs and spices. can't say im fasting completely for i just can't give up good food and flavored mojitos!!!

One of my favorite places since I first ate at the one in St. Matthews several years ago. This visit was no different than any other time. The food was fantastic. The ceviche is to die for, and the service was absolutely great! Dessert fans...... One word of advice.... Try the piña colada shortcake. Shortcake heated and topped with a braised pineapple slice, topped with coconut ice cream, drizzled with a honey sauce. It is so good, that when we go elsewhere for dinner, we make a dessert stop at Havana Rumba!

Try the caprihana--Cuban rum & limes! Margaritas have always been my favorite, until now!

The food and the service are amazing! This is the best Cuban food I've enjoyed in a long time. My friend and I both had the filet skewers with chimichurri and we shared the vegetable empanadas. Can't wait to go back!

I've been hearing about how good this place is for a while now. I finally got to try it today for our office's team lunch. The place is new and looked real nice. They had a deck outside with couches and umbrellas. Good place to hang when the weather's nice. Everything on the menu looked good so I found it difficult to decide on which one to order. I ended up getting the lechon asado. Wait time was not that bad. When my food finally came out, I was surprised by how huge the portion is and it could definitely be shared by two people. It was delicious! I didn't have enough room left for dessert so I will definitely come back again soon to try their other entrees and desserts. :)

  • Pam C.

I've been here a few times, all but once has been at the request of others. I really want to like this place but I don't understand the hype. It's very loud, the wait is always long, we made reservations once, and even had to wait another 20 minutes after that. I've tried a couple dishes and the only one I really like is the steak chimichurri, which is one of the more expensive things on the menu. I like the steak and green sauce that comes with it, but I don't like plantains, or rice all that much, so I find it to be a waste of money to eat just the meat.

Best Food I've Ever Eaten! I live in Cincinnati and discovered Havana Rumba on a trip to Louisville with my wife a few years ago. We visited their St. Matthews location first and fell in love. The service was wonderful and the food was the most amazing I'd ever tasted. I'd never had Cuban before and was blown away by how great everything was. We have since made multiple trips back down to Louisville and visited the Middletown location each time, including our anniversary dinner this past year. The environment is energetic and fun and the food surpasses our high expectations every time. These are my favorite items on the menu: *Ceviche del Dia, bright, acidic, light starter *Steak Chimichurri - Delicious, tender, skirt steak w/2 awesome sauces *Vaca Frita - crispy grilled shredded beef seasoned to perfection with peppers and onions *the rice, black beans, and sweet plantains that come with the entrees are great *finish with a Café Cubano Can't wait to go back!

Love it! The only thing that kept Mr from giving it 5 stars is the noise, it get SUPER load in this place.

We went on a Saturday and it was just ok. It was a very different menu and we tend to like this type of cuisine. We were put off by very slow service. Took us almost 30 minutes from being seated to get bread. My wife ordered a mango mojito and it came as a regular-- albeit good one. We asked it to be made mango and that took forever and it was not noticeably mango. I probably will try other places as Louisville has many excellent options. Why go to mediocre ones?

Food is excellent... The ropa vieja is one of the best ones I have tasted. Service is a bit lackluster though.

I adore this place, best service ever! If possible, sit on the patio for dinner for the live music. I used to eat there once a week and have never had bad service there. They got to the point that they knew our order and just handed us drinks when we got there. I love the papa rellenos, havana club (YUM pressed sandwiches!), their roja vieya is delicious and their coconut flan is AMAZING! It's worth fighting over.

I love this place!!! My best friend took me here before moving back to NY! The food was delicious! The raspberry mojito was on point! The atmosphere is like no other! Love the vibe!!! The portions were perfect! And our waitress was one if the best!!

When the whole family is out and about, and someone asks, "where should we eat?", Havana Rumba is invariably the answer. The food is amazing. The drinks are really really good. The service is second-to-none. And the prices are very reasonable. The only complaint is that they are so busy that the wait to be seated can be a little long sometimes. This location opening only only a few miles away from the first location seems to have helped alleviate some of that, though. Some people might not like that the noise level is sometimes louder than you would expect at a restaurant, but it's really because everyone is enjoying themselves and having a good time, including the staff. I'm writing this review for the Shelbyville Rd (Middletown) location, but it applies equally to the Oechsli Ave (St. Matthews) location. The only real difference is that Middletown's space is larger, both indoors and out, which I prefer. Quick take: Amazing food, good atmosphere, family friendly, great staff, and good prices. Almost everyone I've talked to about their favorite Louisville restaurants puts Havana Rumba on the list.

If you like Cuban food, this is the place to go. My husband and I always get the Vaca Freda. It is strips of beef with peppers and onions. You also get beans and rice and plantains. The Passionfruit Daiquiris are the best. They used to be open for lunch every day now they are only open for lunch Thursday through Sunday.

This place is pure kitsch, plus some pretty awesome food. Service is incredibly friendly and kind. Cocktails were great - well made, creative, and appropriate (not watered down, not spontaneously combustible). Love, love, love the toasted bread and herbed butter. Was the best I had during an entire week in the 'ville on business - and I'm a pretty grumpy critic, overall, of what gets served to guests pre-meal, gratis. The hot tapas were great. Tried a few, but no seafood. I especially loved the ham and chicken "nuggies". Perfectly crisp, lovely flavor; the pepper sauce was great. Actually, I would have welcomed a bit more, on the side, only, to avoid mushiness. The pressed sandwiches were great, too. Perfect bread -- and, to me, that's really the key -- for a Cubano, especially. Loved the smokey maple syrup / bacon grease / lime dipping sauce for the sweet potato fries (which were perfectly made and crisp). Frankly, I'd bathe in it. For realzies. Incredible. I would have done it like a shot after my fries were gone, but, well, I'm shy. Will be back...the food, plus the incredibly kind and hard working bartender / server (Lili - ?) who manages to make women feel welcome by calling them "Lady!" a la Jerry Lewis.

The food here is great, however embarrassing your customers is never a good thing. As someone who dines out every weekend I have never had such an odd experience at a restaurant. In a nutshell ..We were there with a group of 13, my husband and I ordered meals, and I ordered chicken fingers for my son. I indicated my 4 year old daughter probably wouldn't be eating(it was 8:30) so they would just share the meal. When the food arrived the food runner placed 2 small plates in front of my kids. My first thought was, how nice they split the food! I was thrilled at this point. That ended when I got the check and was charged for two meals. Apparently the food runner had given another child's plate to my 4 year old so our server went ahead and charged us for it. I politely pointed it out to the server to which he replied that his manager instructed him to charge us for the two meals and he couldn't do anything about it. After another guest at our table chimed in, he finally said he would see what he could do. When he returned he continued to explain to me in front of the table that he was just following manager "orders" and he has to abide by rules. I wish I had asked to speak to this manager but I didn't. I left with a terrible taste in my mouth for Havana Rumba, and it wasn't the food that caused it! :(

They make a great peach margarita and the guacamole is very good. I recommend the fried pork with rice and beans as an entree.

I hate to give them a 2 b/c the food we were able to eat was great, but we did carry out and they put everything in poly styrene containers. I can't believe anyone still uses it with good bc it is a carcinogen and when heated lets off toxic fumes. So, we got the Cuban sampler and they put a hot empanada and it melted part of the packaging. How I can eat that? I highly recommend they change their carry out materials. It's worth it and safer to go to a paper based product.

I feel sorry for people who think Cuba is only about cigars, the missile crisis, trade embargoes, and the infamous Castro. If the aforementioned topics scare you and thus cause you to steer clear of anything associated with the small Caribbean island than I implore you to give in to one of their finest achievements---their food. Cuban food is a mash up of Spanish and Caribbean cuisine and their salty to sweet ratio is nothing but pure genius. Take for instance the Cuban sandwich or cubano bocadito. Roasted pork, ham, swiss cheese, beautifully placed pickles, and mustard steam pressed between two loafs of slightly sweet Cuban bread. It comes served with sweet potato fries accompanied by a small shot glass of a bourbon colored liquid which is the most heavenly sweet concoction this side of heaven. Even though it's meant for the fries, I end up dunking everything in it. LeBron James would be proud. Plantains! I just sit and wonder sometimes why there aren't books of poetry written about this unripe fried fruit. They are a standard side for most of the Cuban dishes but to me they truly belong center stage. I have had them with the Pescado a la Parrilla which is a grilled Swai fish fillet with a cilantro, parsley, and garlic rub. Don't be alarmed when this green fish is placed in front of you. The color will take you by surprise but one bite and you wouldn't care if it were rainbow colored. Yum. Sometimes the pork can taste a little bland. I'm not sure why since they advertise in the menu that it's "been slow cooked all day" or maybe that's the problem? When the pork is having an off day I simply slather it with plantains. Hands down the BEST, BEST, mojitos. I have to order one no matter the time of day because they are the (you know where I'm going with this) BEST!!! The wait staff are authentically Cuban and I love hearing the menu items roll off their tongue. Very attentive and friendly. Most of the items are on the pricey side but everything can be split because they do not skimp on portions. This even goes for the sandwiches. One more note, their are 2 locations and the St.Matthews location is very small and can appear that every one is sharing a table, you're that close. The lighting is low so it lends itself to a more romantic fiesta. The Middletown location is bright and big. They've even expanded their patio which is perfect for sipping the BEST mojitos. Food- Thumbs up Mojitos- Thumbs uppity-up U.S. Travel Ban to Cuba- Thumbs down

I've had a decent amount of Cuban food in my time and I love it. This place is just under the meh level. Pork is pretty dry, plantains are overcooked, nothing seems to have enough citrus on it, and the seafood is even drier than the pork. I've given this place a couple of tries due to the great reviews on Yelp and it is the same every time. At least they are consistent. I will wait for our annual trip to Florida to eat some decent Cuban food.

I love this place! It was a lunchtime favorite when I worked in J-Town and for my birthday dinners. The staff is always nice, but the service can be a little slow, which I don't mind so much here because it gives me the chance to just enjoy the experience. I have tried several things here and I am never disappointed.

Everything good about the original location is still there in Middletown. The food is ridiculously good (and so is the sangria). As an added bonus, there is a good deal more parking and seating here. That means shorter waits - and if you do have to wait, the patio is super adorable. Not a bad place to hang out for a few minutes. The ceviche of the day is always a solid bet. The cubano sammich and garlic shrimp are really good too. But then, I would show up just for the sweet potato fries.

I am originially from Tampa, Florida, so I am used to very authentic cuban food. Ever since I moved, I have not been able to find a good cuban meal. When I was visiting family in Louisville, I saw Havana Rumba and decided I had to try it. I was so glad I did! The Ropa Vieja was amazing!! It was so authentic. They had a very large menu. I would say it is a little more upscale cuban food, and the price goes along with it. The portions are very large, so that makes up having to pay a little more. The margarita was also very good, and strong! The atmosphere was really nice and the wait staff was great. Our waitress would always say amigo or amiga when talking to us, which was kinda cool. It made it feel even more authentic. I will definitely be back!

Hands down the best place to eat in Louisville. The good is consistant.. The service is great. You will not be dissapointed with anything on the menu. I wish there was one closer to where i live.. But i'm willing to make the hour trip to eat here atleast once or twice a month.

When I'm in Louisville for the Horse Races, I bet this place for the Win-----and always cash a ticket. My favorite meal here is the Lechon Asada. Tender pork with nice flavor and a large portion size makes me happy every time. I have tried many of the items (empanadas, tamales, Cuban sandwiches, etc.) and everything has been perfect. The drinks here are strong, and one good margarita is all you need to enjoy your evening. I never have room for dessert here, but I did take the Tres Leches cake home once, and it was fantastic. Cuban food is one of my favorites, and I wish Memphis had a place that did it this well. The consistency of the food here is the most impressive part of the equation. Even the simple things are wonderfully prepared. The service is good and they have a nice patio if the weather is right. Getting to eat here is one of the things that I look forward to when I make plans to visit Louisville. This place is a winner every time!

This place is the more casual version of Mojitos Tapas. It's owned by the same people and you can find some of the same dishes. The place gets filled pretty quickly on a weekend night so plan accordingly. You get a huge amount of food for a good price and sometimes they even have a mariachi band walking around and playing! Would certainly recommend for good Cuban cuisine.

Service Great as always. We frequent both locations and find both to be very good...consistent, consistent, consistent!!! That makes a huge difference in my book . They got us in quick (Party of 10) and took great care of us!!! I got the Veggie Press, My Fav. Very Good!!! My Wife got the Veg Empanada, she loved!!! Like Always the SWEAT POTATO Fries were killer!!!

I went to Louisville to visit my girlfriend this weekend and the ONE thing I told her we had to do was come to this restaurant for the pork. I haven't eaten here for a year and it's still on my mind. She informed me that a NEW location had opened up and let's just say, I was VERY happy to hear it! I gave the other location a four star due to a small waiting area, and while this location has a much nicer area to wait and a bar immediately upon entering, along with a great outdoor space playing live Cuban music, this review gets four stars b/c the AC was NOT working - not even close to working - where they sat us. My dinner-mates described the aftermath of sitting in this area of the restaurant as creating "swamp ass"...not a memory we want to leave with. It was almost too hot to eat! My boobs were sweating and the waitress was clearly warm, b/c she had sweat dripping from her nose and chin. Suuuuper appealing, let me tell you. But, that all aside, this place is rockin' fabulous! We started out with the mashed potato balls and the green fried plantains topped with Monterey jack cheese, grilled chicken and salsa fresca (yes, I stole that off their website). Anyway...the plantains were BOMB. As usual, the hit of the meal was the sweet potato french fries (I don't even like sweet potatoes but these things are IN-CRED-I-BLE) and the star of the show was the Lechon Asado (aka: the famous Cuban pork. Marinated in citrus juices, garlic and Cuban spices. Slow roasted for hours. Served pulled with congris and yucca con mojo). I cannot recommend anything else b/c this shit is SOOOO GOOD, it melts in your mouth. It is perfectly seasoned and absolutely one of the best things I've ever eaten. I also tried out their Lime Margarita which was equally wonderful, strong and gave me a buzz within minutes, but also probably attributed to my own personal swamp ass. Holy shit, Havana....turn down the (actual) heat. I guess they were going for that true MUY CALIENTE experience, and as far as I'm concerned that is NOT what I was paying for, so fix it! Other than that....get your ass there, but expect and be OK with waiting no less than an hour for a table. This place is packed to the max even on a regular week day but a Saturday? Yah...no bueno :).

Yum! Yum! Yum!!!!! I have been to Havana Rumba twice for a girls night. The mojitos are tasty, albeit not the most authentic i have ever had. They are garnished with a sugar cane stick (I think!!!) Which is a neat touch. The food was stellar, as was the service. One of my gfs had never tried yucca, and our server brought us out a little plate to try (mmmmmm yucca!). The garlic shrimp is great, as was the ropa vieja. My other gf just SWORE by the tres leches cake, so of course, we partook in that as well and it did not disappoint. My 2nd visit I had the cuban sandwich and they are served with sweet potato fries and the most delectable little pot of some type of dip. (Looks like melted butter, but it is not.... Not sure what it is, but is divine!!) Havana Rumba is definitely worth a visit!!!!

Great food, awesome atmosphere. The fried Yuka is the best and the Ropa Vieja is very authentic. It's a little gem in Louisville, the parking isn't the greatest but the place is worth it.

This was my first time at this location, I was impressed with the previous location, but this one is even nicer as far as room and locale. The food is very good and at equal level from the other restaurant. Will definitely return with some friends and will recommend that everyone tries the BBQ pork and add some tostones to it.

We were way out in the east end shopping and stopped in here. We usually visit the location in St. Matthews, which is always packed with a huge wait. On a Saturday night about 730 (maybe because UK/UL was playing) we only waited about 5 minutes for table. The outdoor dining tables were a bit too low for us to want to eat a meal bent over, so we opted for inside. I would love to maybe sit outside for small bites and cocktails, however! This place never disappoints. The food is outstanding. The drinks are delicious. The price point matches the quality of food. I love a consistent restaurant. Plus, it is nice to see the consistency continue even when a restaurant expands! Congrats Rumba! You have a great thing going, here!

Pretty gosh darn delicious, especially for the area which is packed with KFC, 4th Meal, Pizza Hut, McD's, BK, Culvers, shit you name it they have it.

I went here back in August with a group of 9 people and we all loved our food! The Camerones Al Ajillo was my favorite appetizer (they also have a dinner vs) and the Mojitos were very good! Go its fantastic!

What a great treat - Cuban food in Kentucky, who'da thunk it. Anyway, we found this amazing restaurant tucked away in a little strip mall. You walk in and feel like you are in Cuba. We got seated right away. They gave us white bread with garlic butter which, while I'm not exactly sure what is Cuban about that, was fine anyway. The menu was full of amazing choices. I went with skirt steak, peppers, and onions which reminded me of fajitas. The flavors were bursting and the meat and veggies were all cooked evenly and just right. Our server was a great guy - from Cuba, but been in Louisville for 4 years; had a great conversation with him. They even had live music the night we went, which rounded out an excellent experience.

Unfortunately, this experience at Havana Rumba was so different than the original location, I can hardly tell it's the same restaurant/owners. The original location is so cool and the food is always fabulous (especially after a couple of the best mojitos this side of Cuba). However, this location just doesn't seem to have caught it's stride. We watched more than one table get up and leave because they never got served. Very bad service, and even the food here seemed disappointing. I won't hesitate to go back to the original location over and over, but I likely won't return to this one.

Man I love the garlic shrimp appetizer! I could drink the juice. I'm totally not kidding. I will sop up the juice with the bread. That is a whole meal for me. The shrimp is cooked perfectly every time. This is called Camarones al Ajillo. It comes with a warning to not touch the hot clay pot with your hands so that you won't get burned. Of course they say nothing about not sticking your face into the bowl and sucking the juice up. It burned my lips but I couldn't help it. I just can't control myself when it comes to this dish. At least I got Angelina Jolie Lips out of it. They lasted 3 days. I looked pretty hot. (Not really but it sounded like a nice fantasy!)This place gets 5 stars just because of that and the mojito's with the sugar cane stick. There you go, that is all you need. ; ) But if you desire more, the Fricase de Pollo sandwich is super yum as is the special appetizer I ordered which is not on the normal menu and I don't remember the name of it. (Sorry!) I will definitely be back. I would love to sit out on the patio but can't stand to smell smoke when I am eating and they allow smoking out there. It is such a neat set up, I am sad I can't partake because of this but at least there is no smoking inside so that works out for the smokers and nonsmokers alike.

Exactly what a Cuban restaurant should be; Energetic, colorful, clean atmosphere, good service and good food. There is even a pond with a fountain in front of the lovely patio. Sadly, I couldn't enjoy a warm and sultry evening on the patio, complete with furniture (that would look perfectly in scene in the Cuban parts of the second Godfather movie), because it was and had been pouring for days. I had the Ropa Vieja. The rice and beans, which I'd initially thought of forgoing, were PER-fection. I mean, can white rice and beans provoke an orgasmic response? I never would've thought so but these were that good. I took the rum bananas home to La Quinta for dessert - also tasty but the vanilla bean ice cream was out of this world. Again, I take off one star because, although I wasn't bedraggled, when I walked in alone they sort of gave me the raised eyebrow and tried to seat me at the bar. As soon as I explained my preference for a table, however, they hopped to. All I'm saying, American restaurant business, is get with the times! Many of us travel alone on business and many of us dine out alone . . don't just stare, get me a dang table already and show some hospitality to all the single ladies AND gentlemen.

Such a fun place! The margaritas and mojitos are out of this world good and the atmosphere is one of fun and festivity. When I went there was live music going on, adding to the tropical, vacation-esque atmosphere. Definitely go for an order or two of the sweet potato fries for the table and make sure and get the pork tamale appetizer-it is melt in your mouth amazingly good. Our server, Rueben, was great, and it seemed like all the other servers were on top of their game as well. Overall, a fantastic place!

I'm a Lexingtonian who lives in Denver. On our recent trip home to KY, my husband and I made a special trip to Louisville JUST to eat at Havana Rumba. Nothing beats the Ropa Vieja and an order of extra sweet fried plantains! Save room for dessert, because it's not an option to miss the Tres Leches cake and Cuban coffee. You won't regret it! This is one of my most favorite food spots EVER!

If you're looking for good Cuban food and a little salsa music to spice up the night this is the place to come! The food is good and the presentation is very appealing. The Tapeo Criollo on three-tiered plates is a great way to start off the night. I followed this with the Pinchos Vegetrianos which was expertly grilled and seasoned. The service is always excellent in the waiters and waitresses are attentive throughout your meal.Sometimes the music is a little loud for conversation so beware of where you sit in relation to the mariachi band. All in all its a great restaurant and I love to eat there as often as I can. They say they take reservations but on a Friday or Saturday night it's first-come first-served and less you have a large party... Check ahead if reservations are important because waits can be a little long particularly on the weekend.Viva Havana Rumba!

I like the unique cuisine choices, and had no problem finding a gluten-free entree. We made it there for a early dinner, so we didn't have to wait. The staff was very friendly. I give it three stars because my food was prepared with too much oil, the sautéed vegetables that came with my meal were very salty, and the atmosphere was just too noisy for me.

This is absolutely one of my favorite dining experiences in Louisville. The energy is always high, the staff courteous and attentive, and the food is excellent. From the pollo a la milanesa (breaded chicken breast covered in ham and cheese), the croquetas y hamon (ham croquets), to the ropa vieja (shredded beef over a rice palif) the food is prepared perfectly every time and served quickly. This is authentic Cuban cuisine at its finest. And don't forget the mojitos! Definitely don't forget the mojitos. :)

Que Ricas! I was worried when I moved back to Louisville that I would have to make cuban food at home. lets just say my lechon asado isn't as good as what I can find in Chicago. I was very happy to find Havana Rumba! Muy authentico y sabraso.

I'm a regular at the original location, but I like this location much better. The restaurant is bigger and more spacious on the inside. He patio will b great sipping on mojitos in the summer. The food is great, just like the St Mathews location. This is one of my favorites.

Love this place! I have not been to a good cuban place since I left my hometown of New Orleans. I have tried a few dishes but I think my favorite is the Ropa Vieja.. VERY tasty. the atmosphere is also fun, and the employees are great. would recommend it to anyone.

Consistently good! I tend to get the same dishes but I love them. It's good for lunch or dinner any time of the year, but the best experience is when ther's live music on the patio and room to eat dinner out there! So lucky to have this little gem in the Middletown area!

Havana Rumba never disappoints. All their dishes are well cooked, well seasoned, and just plain ole tasty. This is always the place we take our friends who are visiting to eat at. My favorite dish here is the Pescado a la Parrilla. The fish is well cooked (my first time I hesitated ordering a fish dish because coming from CA I have high expectations for fish) and had a great balance of flavors. The service is usually great - unless they're super busy, then they tend to get a bit slow. This is usually our go to place when we want to eat a great meal and not be disappointed!

I travel to Havana frequently and can say that the Cuban food here is as authentic as I have found in the US, this side of Miami. The lechon asado was tender and tasty, almost as good a La Palenque in Havana. Yucca was excellent as were the black beans. The pescado also quite good. The cafe cubano (cafe con leche) was a bit disappointing, especially for the price. All in all, very good. Get there early b/c it is a very popular place.

The food from here is AMAZING!!! Everything we have tried has been wonderful but we keep on going back to our all-time favorite the original cuban sandwich. Their sweet potato fries are to die for and their sweet plantains (Maduros) are also not to be missed. We often get take-out to bypass the crowds and our order is always ready and correct. My husband has met friends and sat on the patio where he tells me they only serve appetizers? Weird but something worth considering if you are wanting to sit outside. Their menu prices vary from under $10 to $30 for their house special steak so if you are on a budget you can eat for about $12 including tip and walk out completely full and satisfied. Great atmosphere and service!

Go here! It's in a strip mall but don't let that dissuade you! Their drinks were fruity and easy to drink and the food was eclectic (salads to heavy carb loaded yummies). This was my favorite meal while visiting Louisville/Lexington area.

Food was excellent, service was very good at first and then our server disappeared for 30 minutes and we had a hard time getting drink refills, etc. Restaurant was warm when we were seated, and got even warmer the longer we were there. It got to the point that it was unbearable. So we paid our bill and went outside. It's pretty bad when it feels better outside in 95 degree heat than inside an air-conditioned restaurant. Had the service been a bit better and the air conditioning worked properly, I would have rated this visit a "4.5".

Great place to eat and drink. All though we did not have any drinks for dinner the food was outstanding! Cold tapas - Guacamole with fried plantains Warm tapas - Beef Empanadas! The sandwiches are awesome and sweet potato fries! Havana Rumba sandwich! Will be back soon, before this time I had only been once and really wondering why I never went back! This place is awesome, next time we plan to sit on the patio with some friends for drinks and small plates!

My experience at Havana Rumba this evening was so marvelous that five stars aren't adequate. I want to gush, and perhaps for the first time ever, I'm afraid I will run out of superlatives. This visit was flawless in every way. My partner and I were meeting friends at 5:30 pm, and our evening started as a comedy of errors. Our friends asked us to meet them at "the Havana Rumba on Shelbyville Road." What they didn't realize was that two Havana Rumba locations are on Shelbyville Road. So, we went to this location and they went to the other one. As we entered the restaurant, we saw a lovely outdoor seating area under a huge pergola, with overstuffed rattan sofas and chairs, and ceiling fans overhead. We told the hostess that we might like to sit outside, and she sent someone to get a table ready for us. My partner texted our friends, "Would you like to eat outside?" Our friends, thinking we were at a location without such a pleasant patio, replied that they thought it would be too hot. So, we asked for an inside table. The hostess took us to a table, and my partner said he would prefer a booth. The hostess cheerfully took us to a booth. We sat down, but quickly realized that even before we started eating, the booths were too small to accommodate our big bellies. We flagged down a waiter and asked to move back to the table they had set out for us in the first place. They moved us once again, and brought us drinks and a basket of delicious bread with garlicky butter. We devoured the bread as we waited for our friends (who were on their way from the other location). Our friends arrived, and the first thing they said was, "Can we eat on that gorgeous patio?" My heart sank. I don't like to be high maintenance, and this would be our FOURTH table assignment. They were going to HATE us at Havana Rumba! We asked anyway, and were moved to the patio. I apologized, but the person moving us said, "We just want you to be happy." I am in awe that they handled us with so much grace. One of our friends, a Cuban, summarized the food nicely, saying, "This is home style food like my mother cooked. It's almost as good as what I would make!" Having enjoyed our friend's Cuban home cooking, we knew we were in for a treat! We ordered two appetizers to share: vegetarian empanadas and pork tamales. Both were excellent. Entrees were steak with chimichurri, lechón asado (marinated pork), and Parilla Habanera (sort of a mixed grill for two.) I tasted each of these, and every new bite was better than the one before it. I would say more, but it's really late and I have run out of superlatives. Another visit to Havana Rumba is a must. Next time, I'll bring a Thesaurus!

I rated this restaurant 5 stars back in 2011 and have stood by that rating until the last 12 months or so. I visit and eat here quite regularly and must admit that the food quality has slipped recently, while the prices have crept up. No problem with the increase in prices IF the quality had remained the same - but unfortunately it has not. This opinion is not based on one visit, but yet many visits at various times during the past six months. I kept hoping that they might have been having a bad day, but no - the quality has definitely slipped over time. Small examples - the black beans are watery, the Vieja Ropa is way too sweet. The Tostones con pollo do not have the same consistent good taste. If you haven't been a patron over time - you will most likely still be impressed. But having witnessed the decline saddens me. This rating is for the Middleton restaurant. I will try the original location to see if they too have fallen since the originator of these restaurants has sold out and moved on. I revise my rating to 3 stars.

It had been awhile since my last Havana Rumba visit so I thought I would visit it again. First lets start with our server Magali she was terrific! A server should know the menu top to bottom & how everything looks, is made and its taste. She knew every morsel of the food & drink menu. She has a little team with a couple of other servers (they were packed) all were attentive, very pleasant & quick to fill every need we had. We had Cuban Tamales which were very yummy Lechon Asado topped each with pickled onions & sauce. Tropical salad was very very nice great flavor delicious dressing an orange vinaigrette. Chimichurri steak was good as well black beans & rice spot on & sweet plantains were very good too. For dessert we had Havana Bananas which was good but the reason I didnt give 5 stars. The homemade ice cream had a good flavor but was full of ice crystals. I know its been sweltering here & making small batch ice cream in this weather is a monumental task but this should have been remade it really detracted from the dessert. One blip on an otherwise really good Cuban meal with wonderfully great service!

Excellent food, good service. The presentation can be lacking at times, which I only mention because some people care about that sort of thing. The Middletown location is spacious and great for large parties. It's also kid-friendly. Today I dined with a party that had children. The hostess provided crayons and placemats for the kids. The menu has a large selection, including plenty of vegetarian dishes, if meat's not your thing. There is a lunch menu every day but Sunday.

Hands down the BEST margaritas. The vegetable empanadas and tostada con pollo are fantastic appetizers. You can't go wrong with entree, they're all fantastic. I prefer the Middletown location over st Matthews because it's much roomier, the highlands Express is good also.

Like clockwork, EVERY TIME we leave here, we look at each other and say "That was soooo good. I don't know why we don't come here ALL the time." No matter what we order or who we bring with us, it's always good and everyone has a great experience. We had some friends in town over Easter weekend, and as we should have known, every place was closed ... except Havana Rumba. YAY! They saved the day. It was such a beautiful day out that we wanted to sit out on the patio. But of course, everyone was there that day and wanted to sit outside. However, (I wish we would have gotten his name) but he said, "Give me one min ..." And a few seconds later, he grabbed another guy to help him and they were carrying a table, 4 chairs, linens, and silverware out to our own corner of the patio. Amazing service if you ask me. But back to the food. No matter what you get, you'll be satisfied (at least we always are). My husband seems to get something new every time and raves about his meal for a few hours after we leave. And hey! Watching your weight and afraid you'll have to give up Cuban food? no way! I ordered the pinchos vegetarianos (veggie skewers). AWESOME. I'll probably get that every time, even with the black beans and rice ... and fried plantains. So, all in all, everything is great about this place: the food, service, ambiance. Buuuuut, there may be a wait depending when you go, but it's worth it in my book.

So, you guessed it, I am Cuban, and have been in quite a few countries. Having lived in Miami and with parents and grandparents that taught me how to cook, this restaurant is certainly not authentic Cuban food. Ordered Vaca Frita, got fajitas... saw pretty much the same mexican adaptations which may be a result of the market, I guess. Vaca Frita is a flank steak that has been parboiled, then seasoned with salt and other spices and grill fried until it develops a crust on the outside, adding lime as a burst of freshness at the end, served smothered in cooked onions with its traditional accompaniments, white rice, cuban seasoned black beans and ripe plantains. About the best we got were the plantains... so sad. Anyways, it seemed like a fun place, which it was just know this is not real Cuban Food... for that, and another review, you have,. must, cross the river!

Havana rumba is a great local place. They server authentic Cuban food and there is something for everyone. Right off the bat the appetizers are amazing! The Cuban tamales can't be missed. The beef empanadas could change your life. You can choose an entree that is chicken, steak, pork, or seafood based, anything you pick from any categories is sure to please. I love to get a steak here, they're not the typical cowboy grillers you may be accustomed to but they are some of the most flavorful around.

I've was told how great this place was so my wife and I went around 7 on Friday. The parking lot was packed so I thought the wait would be long. We walked right in and got a table. It was a great atmosphere. They wad live music and also playing the bongos for bdays. The food was wonderful cooked to perfection. Service was great even though the place was packed. We will definitely be going back! Can't wait!

¡Ay, caramba! Love this place, and will find any reason to make the trip from Cincinnati to eat here. "Ummm... I think I need a fresh Bottle of bourbon, don't want that store bought stuff 'cause you know its watered down so let's head to the Bourbon trail, and by the way let's eat at Havana Rumba! " works every time. The festive atmosphere will bring even the biggest curmudgeon out of their mood. You'll notice that all the staff work together and everyone makes you feel like family. Start the meal with the Empanadas you won't regret it. I have a hard time getting past the chimichurri beef, which is excellent my partner in crime gets the Cubano sandwich and sweet potato fries. To finish the meal you can't go wrong with any desserts, we were too full to order any this trip. Now were'd I put that Bourbon........

Authentic Cuban food is rarely hot but often spicy yet mild, Smokey and sweet. Be adventurous! I think people who complain about the lack of heat, or the milder flavor are expecting Tex-Mex or Americanized Mexican food. I've had a lot of Cuban foods, including in places like Miami, the Caribean and Cuban foods in Puerto Rico which was as close as I can get to Cuba! The dished here and at it's sister locations are very authentic. Several of the other local places that serve versions of Cuban food and Cuban sandwiches are just flavorless or try to heat it up Mexican style. I do have to agree that both locations can get really noisy when busy and I don't care for that. However, I don't find them as noisy as a Texas Road House or many sports bars so I don't have a huge problem with the noise here. I could eat here once a week and although the Havana Cuban version of the traditional Cuban sandwich is my favorite thing along with the great sweet potato fries and the smoky sweet dipping sauce is yummy and I can crave it. Everything else here or at the location in St Mathews I've tried have been very good too. I love the plantains which they make several ways depending on what you were ordering them with. The decor in this location is fr better than the St. Mathews and when the weather is good they have better outdoor seating too. This location is also easier to get into without all the bad traffic you have to deal with due to the malls in St. Mathews. This location will be our go-to favorite from now on. And the Belair host counter sets the right mood the moment you walk in. I'm a little surprised this has two $$ indicating it's higher prices. I think that's completely wrong, it's not McDonalds and you can't get a $1 cheese burger. A couple can eat lunch or dinner here for under $30, most dinner plates are $9-$12 dollars, less than you would spend at a Chilies or most other chain store restaurants with no real authenticity or originality. If you want cheap chain store Mexican go to El Nopal or Taco Bell. If you want real food, well prepared in a fun location with a taste you may not be used to give any of their locations a try, just don't expect Mexican flavors this is not a Mexican restaurant.

Havana Rumba is one of the best restaurants in Louisville, hands down. I've been a fan of them since they opened in their first location and their food never seems to disappoint. This is a great place to take a family, or a large party, or a girls night for drinks. It really is just a great place to go for any occasion. For appetizers, I highly recommend the Papas Rellenas and the Camarones al Ajillo. For entrees, you really can't go wrong with anything there. My personal favorites are the steak chimmichurri, grilled Swai, Lechon Asada, and Ropa Veja. The black beans and boiled yucca are also awesome. It's moderately priced and the food is of very high quality. My only gripe is that they don't take reservations (unless you know the owner apparently) so show up early to beat the dinner rush.

I'm a huge fan of Havana Rumba and usually go to their other location. However, this is near my work and my boss wanted to take us out to lunch for Administration Appreciation Day. I will say that the food is pretty much the same as the other location. No problems with the food at all. We learned that they do not serve the bread at lunch, but if you ask for it they will get you some. However, the boss ordered some and it never came. A couple of people in our group were left with glasses unfilled. The servers seemed to not be as attentive as the other location. They rarely came over to see how we were doing. When the meal was almost complete our server brought boxes very hurriedly like he was trying to rid himself of us. Not great customer service in my opinion. We were not a hard group at all either. There was only 5 of us. We ordered our food timely, didn't over request things, etc. The only thing this location has over the other one is the beautiful outside seating. I may visit this location again one day if my coworkers ever want to get together there, other than that I don't think I would go. I will stick with my other location.
