I have been here once, got the Special Maki Combo (Soup, Salad, Spicy Tuna, Yum Yum, Derby Roll $23). I normally hate crab in sushi, but this place actually did a mean Yum Yum roll. The service was also especially nice and friendly. The atmosphere and decor were equally pleasant. I look forward to coming back again. They have a $1 all you can drink Saki special on Wednesdays (I think). Too bad I hate Saki.

Very pricey if you want to spend a hundred dollars or more for a meal with some people. The sushi is so good though and worth coming back, they make the sushi really pretty desirable to the naked eye. I love the decor of the place it's a very Zen place to have a nice dinner. I recommend the 007 and their specialty rolls.

Love this place! Visit it every time we are in town. Sushi is delicious and they have some of the most unusual and tasty sushi rolls we have ever tasted. Atmosphere is very friendly and pleasant. I also had the korean spicy squid entree and it had just the right amount of heat and spice. One of my favorite places for Asian cuisine!

best sushi i have had in louisville! had sashimi appetizer and fish was very fresh. I also had a specialty roll that was huge, and soo good! Also very filling. Will definitely be back, and recommend to anyone wanting sushi in Louisville. Nice ambience and great location also. I like that its quiet, and is a good place to have a nice lunch.

I decided to check out the new establishment at the former location of Cafe Metro. My friend and I came on a Wednesday night around 8:00 and ate at the Sushi Bar. The menu hits all of the Asian-Fusion staples. The sushi menu showed some creativity and there were three daily specials available. The drink menu had a range of custom cocktails. The wine list was unexpectedly broad with many varieties and regions represented. I passed on the cocktails and ordered a Riesling that turned out to be a solid wine. I ordered two rolls for my dinner. The Boston Roll was first up and it was a little disappointing. It was a decent sized roll, but didn't show much texture or flavor. However, the Dynamite Roll did not disappoint with its textures and flavors of tempura, cream cheese, and fish. Overall, this place is worth another visit. The service was attentive and helpful. I plan on returning on a weekend when there might be a little more activity. The sushi was ok, not great, but there were many other menu items that caught my eye. The wine list was a step beyond what some of the other Asian places on Bardstown Road offer at this price point.

Since there are such stellar reviews of Wild Ginger, I'm going to chalk up our bad experience to an "off" night. We had tried to get into Sapporo down the street, since the wait was so long we ventured into Wild Ginger... The host stand (or host area, since there is no stand) was mass confusion. There were two hosts who were on two entirely different planets, and didn't mind sharing their irritation with each other. We finally got seated, but we were highly encouraged to sit on the same side of the table, since we were in a "high traffic" area and it was likely that our heads were going to get loped off by passing trays. Sitting on the same side was a little awkward for two people but gave us an amazing view of the bar where the bartender was busy taking shots (pretty sure he didn't think anybody could see) and wiping his sweaty face over and over with the bar towel that he also used to wipe down the bottles (count for the night: 2 shots, 8 face wipes). He did make a mean drink though... So props to that. We didn't have menus for awhile but after someone noticed we were on our way! We ordered edamame and miso... No complaints there. While we're eating we did get to watch everyone bus their dishes into a rolling bus bucket that was then pushed past our table and into the extra chair that I was warned about (our fourth chair was taken away for another party to use) piled high with half eaten sushi and whatever other remnants that people leave on their plates... Very appetizing. One good thing was that the bathroom was clean, but when I walked out I saw the bucket full of gray water sitting on the ground that they used to wipe down the tables with. Health code violation? We ordered the cardinal roll, rainbow roll, California and eel rolls... We stared at how amazing looked for a while since we had no utensils to eat them with... We were afraid we walked into a Japanese/Ethiopian restaurant where we had to eat everything with our hands... But sadly no (though it sounds fun). Once we got our chopsticks we tore into the food and it was actually delicious. I was a little annoyed that they drowned every roll with sauces and I found a fish bone, but the flavors were good and it filled us up. Food warrants a 3 star and everything else was lackluster albeit entertaining... We may go back since our waitress/hostess was very polite, attentive, and apologetic (she noticed things weren't running smoothly). In my humble opinion this restaurant needs to get a little more disciplined with the details, it's traffic zones are poorly designed and they need to hide the bus bucket and start using spray bottles... Or maybe they just need a front of house manager on the floor.

I loved their Derby roll. I even went back again for it instead of trying a new place. Don't have anything else to say about it though.

LOVE THIS PLACE!! It is small enough to be intimate but still has a good sized seating area. The sushi is some of the best in town.

I decided to go on a Monday night, tempted by the "penny sake." The menu looked fantastic, but I settled on sushi. They serve their sushi chilled...which to me ruins the experience and taste of the fish. If I come to a restaurant to get sushi, I understand I'm taking my chances eating raw fish at room temperature. It took almost an hour to get our food as well, but coming from someone who works in the industry I can overlook the staff having an off night. I think it's worth giving it another try, as the other items on the menu look interesting.

Fresh Sushi!! This is all I can say about this new place. We highly recommend this new establishment in the Highlands. I recently moved to Louisville from the west coast, and have tried just about every sushi restaurants in the city. Man! is this place good. We tried the super white tuna, which is my fav. Their 007 roll with super fresh, and super white tuna was some of the best i've ever had. We went back 2 days later, and it was just as good. This time, we ordered the recommended "Playboy roll", and "spicy tuna tartar", and JUMBO shrimp tempura. All were excellent, and the sushi were just as fresh as the first time. We wanted to try the Kiss of Fire roll, and lamb chops but just don't have enough room, so will just have to wait for the next trip. The server was friendly, and attentive on both visits. We spilled our Sake during our second trip, and almost immediately, two servers came to our rescue, and wiped our table down, and with a replacement jar in no time. One thing about their sushi is that it was kept really nice and cold-just like how it's served in Little Tokyo in LA, and I can tell that the sushi was fresh, not frozen-even it's cold. After all, commonsense tells me sushi is raw fish, and shall not be warm at room temperature, so I was pleasantly surprised that their chef took great care of the fish keeping it fresh at a nice and cold temperature. On our second trip, we also tried the Pad Thai, and it was amazing, and with full burst of spices, basil, and ginger, not just the sweet sugary, fish sauce Pad Thai like many other mom & pop Thai restaurants. I highly recommend Pad Thai, with the hot oil sauce our cute waitress brought to us. To top off the dinning experience, they have a $2.00 Kirin draft special last week, and we really really enjoyed the drink specials. (It's a good thing we can just walk home) Wild Ginger is definitely the place to be if you like sushi, and Thai! I am starting to really like Louisville now. Or is it Lou-a-vul?

I ate here with my mom on Wednesday at about 5pm. Our waitress Cassie was very attentive and helpful. We both enjoyed our entrees very much. I had the bibim bap with shrimp. Served in a hot stone bowl with plenty of hot sauce on the side to mix in, it was delicious. Prices were very reasonable and they knock 10% off all sushi and entrees on your bill.

Fresh sushi, great service, and some unique rolls... Smaller restaurant, and just down the street from the more popular (and loud) Sapporo restaurant. Definitely a good sushi place on Bardstown road.

Fabulous service. Menu has enough choices that everyone should be able to find something they like. Sushi was fresh and attractively served. parking can be a challange.

Sushi place. Unusual evening. I ordered Chirashi for $27. Chef's choice. During prep who i perceived as the owner went over to the sushi chef and told him in my earshot not to use certain ingredients because they were too expensive and to use cheaper ingredients. At first that made me uncomfortable. Clearly that intent was reflected in the dish. So, the rice bowl had salmon, tuna, cooked shrimp, crab stick (pollock crab meat), a few pickled items, avocado and white tuna. Nothing to write home about. I enjoy sushi quite a bit and look forward to a rare treat. They should take this offering off their menu and focus on rolls. I have been here before and the chef and the ownership seem to generally be disagreeable with each other. If you must go there I would stick to rolls . I would go elsewhere like hiko, sakura, and sapporo for quality customer treatment and quality sushi for the amount of money you spend. To be positive, the seaweed salad was a large portion of cucumber, seaweed, and ponzu. Just disappointed or the first time i've had chef's choice sushi in a while.
