Pulled pork- excellent. Beef Brisket- so tender it almost needed a spoon! Sweet Potato Fries- Slight hint of cinnamon, just right Coleslaw- wet but very tasty Baked Beans- exceptional! All in all, it was a wonderful experience and definitely the best BBQ we've had here in Louisville!

This is by far the best BBQ joint in Louisville. The loin back ribs actually fall off the bone and are the juiciest in the city. The sauces range from Carolina style to jalapeño. The atmosphere is perfect for a smokehouse with it's picnic style table covers and pig figurines. My absolute favorite restaurant in town

I have tried several different meats and sides here and everything has been fantastic. Nothing short of exceptional! And great options for kids as well.

Took my son for his first brisket tonight. They first said they were out of brisket. You're out of brisket at dinner time on a Friday night?? As I was getting up to leave (this was the sole reason we came, remember) the waitress told me to wait and she came back to tell me they had six servings left. OK?? The good news was my son liked it so that's a plus. Portion sizes were out of this world. In my opinion however, the taste left a lot to be desired. I got the pulled chicken and it was super dry. I took a bite of my son's brisket and it was tender like a roast and it tasted just like a roast out of the crock pot. If you're looking for a roast I guess this is good but it was nothing like a brisket. Zero flavor. No smoke. No spice. I can't say they were horrible but I can't say they were great either. I couldn't recommend this place based on my experience today.

Firstly, we shared our meal with a lingering fly so that was not a plus. Secondly, my party was astounded by the $2 upcharge for "sharing" a meal. The pork was dry and the fried corn was hairier than preferred. Also, I am not really sure what sauce accompanies the bottlecap but it did not compliment the appetizer well at all. On the plus side the bottlecaps were great and the bbq sauces were nice accompaniment to the meal. The turkey was good. Not dry at all. The waitress was friendly and took good care of us. I have been to this establishment once before and this second visit did not meet expectations.

This is my favorite BBQ place. It helps that it is right around the corner from my house too. The beef brisket is always fabulously amazing. Tender, great taste, and juicy. The service is always awesome too! The prices are pretty decent as well. I don't have one combine about this place other than it breaks my heart that it closes two days a week (or is it one?), it seems that on the days I am particularly craving some Smokehouse Brisket... They are closed.

Not horrible, but I have definitely had better BBQ. The brisket was fatty and dry with little flavor. The ribs, on the other hand, were tasty but still a little tough. As for sides the cheesy hash browns were delicious, but the coleslaw was not impressive - it was runny and tasted like it was almost entirely watery Miracle Whip. I'm not sure if I came on a bad day as many other reviews are contrary to my own. I would be willing to go back and try again and will have to next time I am in Louisville.

My family and I went here last week and I wish we didn't. Not only were they out of some menu items, the new management is lacking professional skills. They are extremely rude and lack people skills. The menu prices went up which doesn't make sense since the value went down. I will be surprised if this so called BBQ place is opened for the rest of the year.

This place has delicious food. I had the ribs they were tender and hit the spot. The side dishes were home cooked. I had fried potatoes and beans. I was very satisfied with the fast friendly service. I will be back to eat here again.

If I was writing this review a few months ago, it would have been 5 stars. The smokehouse was the best BBQ I have had and I always felt like I got more food than expected for the price. Unfortunatly, last night kind of ruined things for me. We first noticed that the menu was new and a lot of items were missing or the prices have been increased. My wife ordered the pulled chicken and I ordered the pulled pork and chicken combo. The meat was dry, chewy, or burned. I also found bones in my chicken and was suprised to see that the portions are only 2/3rds of what they use to be. The sides were different from what they used to be too. The seasoned fries are now just plain steak fries and the sweet potato fries were bland and tasted like frozen fries from the store. The broccoli was removed from the menu so you have mostly potato options for sides or you have to pay extra for "premium" sides. The biggest travesty of the night was the cornbread. It has always been sweet, light, and just wonderful. The cornbread last night was still sweet, but was dense and dry. It just kind of stuck in your mouth while you worked up enough moisture to swallow it. I am really just so sad to see that the new management is ruining a Louisville icon. Hopefully if enough people speak up about the changes they might get fixed before they run it into the ground.

Best BBQ in Louisville. Period. The pulled pork is tender, perfectly cooked and juicy. The ribs fall off the bone. And the tell-tale sign of REAL BBQ is the pink smoke ring in the meat - which is clearly evident. All are outstanding choices for persons hankering for some good BBQ. You have your choice of 6 sauces at the table to make it your style which includes Carolina mustard, Texas Hot-N-Spicy, House, Mild and more. Add some cole slaw and you've got some of the best traditional BBQ that you can find anywhere. Portions are large...enough for hungry eaters. "Normal" eaters can probably split meals and still have leftovers. But...there is more! Smoked Oysters Rockefeller are among the best I've ever had. Large and perfectly prepared - definitely get these! You won't be disappointed. And the Onion Loaf is H-U-G-E even by my standards. This thing could easily feed 6 people. Negatives? Only negative I have is a very minor one. Its the Fried Dill Pickles. These have the potential to rival the best in the city. They are perfectly sized, and cooked....but the breading has a LOT of extra dill in it. Add in the dill already found in the pickles themselves - and it is WAY too much dill for me. I would GLADLY rather have a plain (no dill) breading. If they made that change, I would order these every single time because they are crunchy and delightful. (But who goes to a BBQ joint to eat veggies anyway?) I consider this to be the top BBQ spot in Louisville. Don't miss out! Its worth the drive!

Very good food. Service is fast and friendly. A great choice for lunch. This was my first visit Smokehouse. I had the pulled pork platter with baked beans and sweet potato fries, with cornbread. The pork was tasty and well seasoned, with a good selection of sauces to choose from. The baked beans are flavorful. The cornbread is excellent, almost dessert like being that its sweet, yet moist. Prices are very good, my meal was $8.75 plus tax. I look forward to visiting Smokehouse BBQ again.

My original order was ribs and smoked turkey. Was informed they were out of both the ribs and turkey. Settled on pulled pork and brisket. Both were excellent. Also had the navy bean soup, cauliflower and brocoli, and the potatoes and onions. Again they were excellent. Asked about the desserts and was told they were out. Usually would only rate three stars but the food that was available was great. Good personable server, good value for the money.

The bean soup is totally awesome! I would recommend it if you like beans. It is so yummy! I added corn bread to it. Their corn bread is sweet, which I love! Just try it, you won't be disappointed! :)

Great portions of everything! The 1/2 rack ribs were hung! not to mention collar greens and hash brown casserole were the topping on it all!

Update to my last review. I have been several times since that review. Unfortunately with a change in management there has been a change in philosophy and food at this restaurant. I have now been 3 times since It switched over and the food portion and quality has decreased. First the portions are now half of what they used to be but also the most disappointing part is the fact that everything seems to be over seasoned. The icing on the cake for me was the lack of quality service now. This used to have a very family oriented BBQ feeling to it but not so much now. That last straw for me was being told that I would have to order a second drink in order to have a sweet tea to go. This is a very odd and unfriendly rule to ask a customer to pay for a drink twice so that he can take a refill with him on the road. It's disappointing because this was definitely one of the best barbecue places in town and they still produced decent BBQ but it is nowhere near what it used to be. Time to look for a new barbecue joint.

A friend of mine had eaten here a couple of weeks ago and he was raving about the ribs for days so I decided to see what the fuss was all about. Being someone who is always looking for an excuse to eat good barbecue, I didn't require too much persuasion. So last Saturday, my car rolled into the parking lot of the Smokehouse, and before long, I was seated at the bar, salivating at the array of choices on the menu. I ordered a half rack of loin rack ribs (which is leaner than the spare ribs but still very moist and tender), 1/2 pound of pulled pork and 1/2 smoked chicken. I tried all their sauces too. Wow! I can say this is easily one of the best barbecue places in town. Everything was juicy and delicious. My wife is normally not a ribs person but she kept peeling off pieces of meat from my ribs plate with such alarming regularity that I feared marital discord brewing. I'm going back there, and next time we'll dine in. It's a nice family-run restaurant that I'd like to keep supporting. Apparently a lot of the natives share my view of the Smokehouse - it was packed to the rafters when I got there. Highly recommend this restaurant!

Another great BBQ place! Had the beef brisket sandwich which was nice, tender and smoky, with a choice of 5 sauces to add to the BBQ: Habanero, House, Hot, Mild and Sweet. My companion had the 2-inch smoked pork chop, fried potatoes and collard greens. The chop was tender and falling off the bone and far more than one person could eat. For $10.95, it's definitely a deal. My oldest son had a 1/4-Rack of Spare Ribs and fries. The ribs had plenty of meat practically melting off the bone. Wonderfully tender and smoked and he added the house's mild sauce --- sweet, with a little spice and a nice smoky flavor. My youngest had the cheeseburger with mac and cheese. Pretty good burger too plus mac and cheese not from the box. To finish off, we had the Florida Orange Juice Cake, not baked at the restaurant but definitely yummy. Like eating orange sherbet without the brain freeze. The service was attentive and friendly, offering advice on each meal and even taking time to make faces with my youngest. He's such a flirt.

We have visited this place a few times and the food is excellent and prices are unbelievable. We have ate the ribs, Brisket and pulled pork all excellent. Cole slaw is the best I have ever had. Give the place a try you will not be disappointed. This is a family owned place.

I picked up a full slab of ribs to go. I had my choice of spare or loin ribs. I chose the loin since they were supposedly less fatty. They were awesome. The staff was very friendly and prices reasonable. Definitely will return.

We're from Nashville so of course this is biased because of places like Martin's and even Neeley's but mostly Martin's! I got the pulled pork plate because I'm picky about Brisket, I had Mac n cheese and greens with cornbread. Hubs got the combo plate with 1/4 rack of ribs and brisket. His sides were coleslaw and potato salad with barbecue bread. They have good mild sauce. The house sauce is good but different and a bit too sweet for me. I'm always bummed when a vinegar sauce isn't offered. The hot leaves a bit to be desired. I believe at our table the spicy sauce offered was actually full of the mild because they tasted identical. The person who said the Mac n cheese wasn't out of the box must've been there on a good day. It is pretty good but the food isn't get and it isn't all homemade and from scratch stuff.. It could use some improvement.

An amazing BBQ place that came out of nowhere to fill a void in this city. Yes we have a few chain BBQ places, Famous Dave's take first place there hands down, but we have very few local BBQ joints. I had my doubts walking in here, not as busy as I would like to see. Ordered a variety of things to see what they had to offer. We tried the pulled chicken, pulled pork, brisket, and several sides. All I can say is for a lunch portion this was crazy, I basically asked for box when they brought the meal. Meats are tender and flavorful, can be eaten without sauce, but the sauce is the icing on the cake. My complaint with other places is lack of good sauce, not here, they have 2 great ones and I couldn't pick a favorite. You can't go wrong with any side it just depends on what you are in the mood for that day. Hashbrown casserole is awesome and you get a lot of it, atleast twice as much as most places. Cornbread is sweet and almost like cake, but that is exactly how I like it. I can only imagine a second location is bound to happen once everyone finds out about this place. Please fix the websites(facebook and yelp) with a working menu link, this is sometimes the determining factor to try a new place.....oh and Living Social or Groupon would be a huge winner.

We don't know a lot about BBQ but we loved this place. The onion loaf was really greasy but really tasty. Lots of sauces to choose from. Really tasty baked beans and corn bread that was so moist and light it reminded me of cake! Would definitely go back!

Pretty poor BBQ place. Had a pulled pork sandwich with mac and cheese, fried pickles and sweet tea. The pork had a great flavor but all their sauce was pretty awful. The fried pickles were bland and over done causing them to be tough. The mac and cheese was really bland as well. Even the tea was pretty bad, the sweet tea tasted like regular tea.

Hands down the best ribs you will ever eat. We visited my brother who lives in Louisville last week to celebrate Christmas. He told us that we were going to a great rib place. I have very high rib standards and when we pulled in to an old Pizza Hut doubt started setting in. My brother reassured me that the food was incredible. Was he ever right. Word of warning, these ribs are sooo meaty that 1/2 rack is like getting a full rack anywhere else. I could not finish the half rack. With my ribs I had the cole slaw and homemade chips, both were delicous. I also tasted the hashbrown casserole which was too good for words. No room for dessert. The staff was very friendly. This truly is a gem of a restaurant. I can't wait to visit my brother again!

we ate here in the fall of 2011, so maybe its better....But if you are desparate and never had real KC BBQ then try the ribs but bring your own sauce, their sauce doesn't help but takes away from the quality of how they smoke their meet, so bring your own sauce like Arthur Bryants or Gates ....staff wasn't friendly either nor knowledgeable. Better to go somewhere else, if you haven't had KC BBQ then I can see how you would like it.
