I was drawn into Smashburger, Fourth Street's new midlevel burger joint, by the menu on the window that advertised root beer floats. So, since I was game to try someplace new I went in and ordered a grilled chicken club (minus the bacon), smashfries, and a rootbeer float. I felt slightly rushed to order by the cashiers but that's probably because it was Saturday evening on Fourth Street and they were hopping. When my meal came out to my table the chicken was extremely juicy and flavorful. The avacado was fresh but was initially forgotten and had to be brought as a side. However the fries which had rosemary and olive oil were far too oily. I went through a stack of napkins eating them. Still, their flavor was spot on. The rootbeer float was delicious and was made with IBC root beer and Hagan Daas Ice Cream. While this restaurant has a few small fixes to make, I'll still be back to try more of their menu.

Since this place is extremely close to where I work, I have found myself frequently craving all things Smashburger. Everybody likes to talk about the hearty, tasty burgers with the ample fresh toppings or the hot, olive oil and herb encrusted french fries. I have found a new love there that you must try, and that is the Baja Cobb salad. Worried that a Salad won't fill your burger sized hunger? Don't be, the salad is generous and tasty enough to make you forget all about that burger that your buddy is eating next to you. Then when you are both finished, you can smile and know that in about an hour when they are feeling a red meat and grease induced nap time time coming on, you will still be as chipper as a little kid on caffeine!

The Baja Burger is awesome and must add the smash fries! The wife got the avocado burger with sweet potato smash fries. "smashed fries means with olive oil and rosemary!

Horrible! Service was terrible. I got the black bean burger which was dry. If you like matchstick french fries that are cold and tasting like they had been sitting for awhile then ok. I asked for extra ketchup and you think I ask for the girls right leg. Very rude

Bluegrass Chicken sandwich was great, though they ran out of bacon. The place was rather cold too, not very comfortable to eat in. I did go back and ordered the same thing and really enjoyed their veggie frites too!

Ate here for the first time last weekend and ordered the Spicy Jalapeno Baja regular. It was pretty tasty, but not spicy enough for my taste. Service was a bit slow even though my friends and I were the only customers at the time, so maybe they only had one cook at 7pm on Saturday. I liked the place, and I'll likely go again at some point.

Decent shakes. Good service. Nice people. Nothing to write home about but a place to fill up when you're not counting calories or feeling haute.

Cold fries and terrible service. Total waste of money! Better off going to McDonald's.

Based solely on the burgers - loved them! Again, I have read many reviews from people complaining about wait time, service etc. I had no wait time issue at an off time and but the person taking my order did stop mid-stream to make a comment to someone behind her for which she did apologize. I really do not know if it was pertinent to the days business but was slightly off putting. But as I said, she did apologize. But let's get back to the food, I loved my burger!! I built my own with a huge selection of toppings and bun choices. The bun was warm, the burger juicy and perfectly cooked. I was only Ok with the fries BUT I am not a skinny fry lover, this is my issue not theirs. Ok, now something that may sound a little odd BUT their fountain diet coke was EXCELLENT. Again a little odd but the perfect mix of carbonation and syrup! I will definitely go back when wanting a semi-fast burger!

Fact: Smashburgers are grilled delicious bundles of greasy joy. Fact: Yelpers whine that the store is packed during lunch and the staff tends to... underperform. This may be a so-called "high-end" burger joint, but that doesn't mean the staff makes $10/hour. Even the managers make what is arguably less than a living wage. I don't mean to criticize Smashburger. The market demands convenient, meaty $6-8 lunches, and they provide it. But if you want great service, you're going to have to either employ more people or incentivize better performance from the people you do pay. Personally, I've only seen courteous and competent service from this Smashburger. But the crowds at lunch mean there is always a lengthy wait. My only real problem with the place is that I don't seem to have the willpower to stay away from the fried burger and potatoes. Which means I really enjoy eating it, and kinda regret it afterward. Bottom line: good food and courteous, if perhaps underpaid, staff.

My sorority sisters and I were trying to find something to eat. We were headed to another place but saw it was pack, so we saw SmashBurger and decided to give it a try. I am glad we did. When we walked in, the menu had so many options to choose from that is took us a while to order. I decided to order the Bluegrass burger and my Sorority Sister ordered the Spicy Baja burger, we decided to split each burger in half so we could taste each others burger. They were both great burgers, if I had to choose one over the other, the Spicy Baja burger gets my vote. The guacamole and jalapenos make this burger excellent. I got regular French fries, while my sorority sisters had the smash fries and the sweet potato fries. The smash fries were pretty good, with the different seasonings on them. The sweet potato fries were not the best, but I'm hard to please when it comes to sweet potato fries honey. My only complaint is that there is no combo option, now what's that all about? LOL!! I had to order everything separately. I mean if I am going to order a full meal, they should just go ahead and make a combo option. On the other hand, the service was great, the cashier was a huge help in giving us her favorite burgers. I didn't look at her name, but she provided great customer service. If you are looking for a variety of burgers, I encourage you to give this a try, you will not be disappointed.

I went to Smashburger with some friends for lunch. This place is always packed during the peak lunch hour so it's best to get here around 11 or 11:30. I ordered the Spicy Baja burger (Pepper jack cheese, guacamole, lettuce, tomato, onion, spicy chipotle mayo and fresh jalapeños on a spicy chipotle bun), which was yummy, as were the Smashfries (French Fries tossed in olive oil, rosemary and garlic). Good food, friendly and efficient service, and a nice downtown location...

This isn't your typical fast food restaurant, though their signs say you can "smash and dash," and of course, the food was much better too! :D For fast foods, I'd place this higher up on my list. We got the Spicy Jalapeno Baja and the Bluegrass burgers, both with fries. Fries were thin, delicious, steaming hot, and crunchy! The burgers were soft and hot with blasts of flavor. I liked the Bluegrass with bacon on it, but it was big (to me at least), and I had to box up my leftovers. I tried eating the burger upside down, and it worked! I barely made a mess. I would definitely come back for a downtown lunch and then try one of their milkshakes too!

I came back to this restaurant two days in a row because I took their receipt survey and got a free order of smash fries. I went there almost 2 o'clock in the afternoon so the line wasn't very long, however I still waited in line over five minutes and it took me five minutes to get my food after I placed it. I ordered the truffle mushroom Swiss chicken sandwich. Everything there is really greasy, I used about four napkins for my lunch! I could not believe how thin the chicken was on my sandwich; it was no thicker than a quarter of an inch! And the sandwich cost almost 8 dollars with tax! What a total rip off! I won't be coming back to this location or any other. Like I said before there are just too many burger places out there that deserve my business.

I used to live in Colorado and went to a smash burger in Louisville Colorado one of the birth places of the franchise in 2008 and loved it it was so fresh and delicious. But this one was a little sad. Pfft... Franchises.

There is nothing I crave more in life than an excellently made burger. Smashburger comes pretty close to achieving that status. Their patties are smashed flat as they are cooked, giving them a nice sear and crust around the edges that adds to the flavor of the burger. They also have a few specialty burgers that are specific to each region. This particular one has the Bluegrass Burger, which comes with a smooth and melted cheddar cheese, bourbon BBQ sauce, and fried banana peppers. Its definitely my choice whenever I go. Other than the burgers, you'd also be wise to indulge in one of their amazing milkshakes. They are made using Hagan daz ice cream and they come out with an amazing texture that makes them very easy to drink. Now....for the negatives. Its located on 4th street and doesn't have a whole lot of seating. So if you're trying to dine in you need to make sure and not go during lunch or else you'll be left waiting for a seat for a while. Also, they have tended to mess up my special orders quite often by either not removing something that I asked to be removed, or by just getting the order wrong all together. This is probably due to the high volume of customers that are in there during the time, but its still not an excuse.

This was my first visit to a Smashburger and I'm officially disappointed we don't have one where I live. I had the Bluegrass burger (BBQ, bacon, cheddar, and burger). The burger was good and the toppings were also delicious. It was quite salty, but that was OK. I had the buffalo fries (dry-rubbed with Franks' Hot Sauce): super tasty. The fries are very thin (thinner than the burger chains like McDonalds', BK, Wendy's etc). They were cooked to perfection. I finished it all up with a Nutter Butter shake that was just OK. I must admit that it had melted quite a bit by the time I ate it, so that may have affected my experience, but I probably should have gone for the Oreo or Salted Caramel. Service was prompt; no issues there.

This place is for sure hit or miss with the food quality. Sometimes it is good and sometimes it's is subpar. The worst thing about his place though is the horrible customer service. The 3 times I have been there in the past three months I have stood at the counter for several minutes without seeing a single employee. I walked back into the kitchen - no one cooking, no one taking orders. I literally yelled "anyone here" into the kitchen and no answer. Eventually left and went to another restaurant. Obviously not a one time phenomenon either. Don't waste your time.

It ain't no Five Guys, but it sure is tasty :) Great burgers, great fries, fun diner feel. This location is near 4th Street Live in downtown Louisville, so it's very crowded during lunch, but glad I went. Try it out for a quick and tasty meal!

Due to high demand or at least some demand, I suppose I can drop at least one more review: Mistake #1. Agreeing to go to lunch downtown during the work week. Mistake #2. Choosing Smashburger as the lunch spot. This location is just far too busy during the noon hour as office workers galore pop in here for lunch. So you're stuck waiting for a table to open up, and when it does, you know you'll have to clean it off. But, on the other hand, Smashburger's food is fairly reliable, if always a bit too oily, and I do appreciate the variety of fresh toppings I can add. But I'm not a fan of the fries, sweet or otherwise, as adding rosemary and garlic seems like overkill to me, and they're just way too greasy. Good potato fries only require a dash of salt and are cooked to just the right amount of outer crispness. Hate to say it, but McDonald's seems to have that down pat, Smashburger seems to be searching. So, Smashburger on 4th wavers somewhere between Meh & A-OK, kind of "meh-ok". I suppose that's something, just not something that makes it a must for return. Especially, after the following: Mistake #3. Parking on a rainy day in a spot that was just a little too far past the parking meter's designated area. Damn you, Louisville Metro parking meters!!

Good burgers. Nothing spectacular. The burgers taste similar to Steak-n-Shake, but they use unique ingredients such as goat cheese, fresh jalapenos, truffle mayo, sauteed mushrooms, artisan buns, etc. I've had the Truffle Mushroom Swiss burger a couple times, but many of their burgers sound tasty. What makes this place extra-awesome to me is their veggie frites. They are flash fried carrots and green beans and they taste amazing! It's such a unique, healthier substitute for fries that I can't find anywhere else.

It's a solid burger. It smells great. Looks great. Tastes okay. For your money, if you're craving a burger, not a bad choice. But I'd take Five Guys over Smashburger any day. The smash fries are kinda soggy from the olive oil and disappointing. Their burgers are super fresh and well-made though.

During a trip a couple of years ago, I discovered Smashburger. I loved it. The burgers are great and they have the best chocolate malts. I usually order a smash burger, fried pickles and a chocolate malt. We do not have a location in Indianapolis so I have to enjoy on trips to Louisville. The last time we came to Louisville in January for a cheer competition, a couple of cheer moms and myself came here to eat while we were waiting and then we came back after the girls got finished to feed them. It was a hit with all that were there.

I've dealt with bad service, but this was beyond ridiculous. I came here with my best friend to try something new besides Chipotle . Next time I'll go across the street to Chipotle! The service was terrible and the food was greasy, salty and disgusting. I will never return to smash burger. Even after receiving a coupon for a free burger for the complaint. I gave it to a man on the street.

Horrible service!!!!. They decided to close but they never close the doors so people like me waiting in line and no orders taken. What kind of service is that? They should close the door and keep servicing people still in line. Anyhow I hope they fire that manager because that's no service!!!!

I recently ate here for the second time and was very disappointed. The food was great the first time I had it, and I had a couple of coupons that I wanted to use so my boyfriend and I decided to come back. We were both extremely disappointed. The restaurant was not busy at all. We were two of maybe 5 people eating at the time. It took us probably close to 10 minutes to order because the girl working the register couldn't figure out how the coupons worked, and she had to keep calling the managed up front to help her. First, she told us we couldn't have two coupons on one order so we asked to order seperately. She removed my boyfriends food and told me my total, but didn't include the discount from the coupon. When I asked if the total included the discount, she said yes. I pointed out that the total of the meal with the discount was $2 less and she fixed it. My boyfriend then ordered his food and she had to call the manager up once again to apply the coupon. We then found a seat and my boyfriends food was ready right away. I waited and waited and after my boyfriend finished eating my food still wasn't ready. I took my receipt up to the register and the same girl that took my order said that it would be ready soon. I waited at the register and watched as she walked to the food window and grabbed my burger from under the heating lamp. Who knows how long it had been sitting there. I began to eat and noticed that the meat in the middle of the burger was still pink, which I know from experience in food service that fast food restaurants must cook burgers well done because of health code standards. At this point, I didn't even care to complain to a manager because I felt that he wouldn't have done anything to make it better. I was very disappointed by this experience. The crew seemed sad and moved at a slow pace, the manager acted as if everything was such a hassle and I left very dissatisfied. It's not likely that I will ever return to eat here.

I crave the Mushroom Swiss burger from Smashburger. I think it has something to do with the truffle mayonnaise. Maybe. The Smash Fries are pretty tasty, too. But, I can feel my arteries clogging two bites in and pay for the grease in ways that are not polite to discuss in a public forum. The service at this location has been friendly and quick.

Came here during the Football Coaches Convention with two fellow coaches. Had grilled chicken Avocado Club and sweet potato fries. Good was good. Best part of the place were the workers all of them were super friendly, professional and courteous. I'll eat here again tomorrow before I leave.

Unfortunately very poor service on our recent visit. The lady who took our order called over her manage many times to help help, I gave her the patience because I'm sure she was new. What was a real let down was after we handed her a coupon for $2 off our purchase it did not show up on the screen. My very timid girl friend asked "is this the total with the coupon" and the lady responded "yes". I told her I think she was mistaken and she called over her manager who was able to fixe it. Then after we paid she asked for us to hand her the coupon... When we had already did. Of course she found it and apologized. Just very unprofessional. I received my food almost as soon as I sat down but my girlfriend did not. I started eating assuming her food would he coming right behind mine but after I was finished eating we went to ask where her order was when we saw it had been sitting under the heat lamp. I am very patient and lenient when it comes to service but this had to have been the most pitiful I've encountered in awhile. As for cleanliness, most tables were left dirty making finding a seat hard. As for the food it fortunately wasn't as bad as the overall experience. I had the Baja burger which was a little over powered with too many red onions. It wasn't bad, but I would not recommend or order it again. Such a let down for a restaurant I use to speak so highly of.

I had the Avocado Burger and Smash Fries. Both were tasty. The bottled beer on ice was a nice touch with the choice of a local craft beer. The restroom was a one at a time type which was very clean. However, service left some to be desired. Both myself and the two customers whom arrived at the same time waited over 5 minutes for someone to arrive at the counter. The beer bottles were not twist off capped and I had to bust off my bottlecap on the edge of the table. Although my food was delicious, it took a little long to arrive. Granted, the employees were very hospitable. Not saying to avoid this place. Will even consider future visiting myself. Just know to have some patience. And have a bottle opener in your pocket or purse.

Smashburger must have a policy about only hiring the nicest people in the world. I've been to several now (all over the country) and am always greeted with the most genuine welcome! I ordered the Baja Smash Cobb salad with chicken to go and I also brought in a homeless person and ordered him a burger. He was sort of intoxicated and I asked the cashier if it was ok that he was in there and she said it was no problem. I checked on her before I left just to make sure she was ok with me leaving him in the restaurant with her and again, she said it was no problem at all. The salad was delicious and spicy. It has lots of fresh guac, grilled chicken and bacon. Doesn't get much better!

  • Ryan S.

I ordered the Spicy Jalepeno Baja. The bun and toppings were fresh, but the burger was cooked until it was the consistency of a regulation NHL hockey puck. This explains why it took 17 minutes to get my order. The only reason I gave it two stars was the perfectly cooked fries.

    (2)
  • Mihir K.

Meh...the veggie patty is too salty. The garlic fries are delicious. The burger combinations are pretty good too. The milkshakes are OK. The service could be better, but its a chain, so I didn't have high expectations either.

This location of smashburger is centrally located to the Kentucky International Convention Center. This was one of the smaller locations I have seen. But the food made up for it. The Bluegrass Burger and pickle chips were the Bomb Biggity! My mom had not been to a smashburger so this was a treat for her. The staff was great and patient with as many people as they had coming through. If you are in Louisville, for a convention, etc... stop by. It is worth it.

I had been looking forward to trying Smashburger for a while. I noticed it on the way to 4th Street Live one day and thought - mmm, can't wait to try a big delicious burger there. So tonight, we tried it for a friend's birthday. I've been counting calories and so I went on the website beforehand to plan what I was going to get - not a lot of friendly options, but I went for it anyway (there's always tomorrow, right?). Something kinda cool that I noticed was that each state had its own regional flare.. I can appreciate that! Louisville's is the Bluegrass burger and a mint oreo shake. I would like to try some of the shakes at the other locations if I travel there. Something about the cheese on my burger I just did not like. I think it was like frothy or something. It masked the bbq and the bacon...which I had been looking forward too. I was also excited about the tea offerings - pomegranate red tea and a passionfruit green tea...both were not tasty. Smash sauce was what tasted just mustard mayo and relish.. not my jam. Womp womp. This place's saving grace is that it has friend banana peppers! If you've read any of my other reviews you know I love banana peppers and large drinks. I'm not sure if this is a regional offering or not (couldn't tell by the online menu) but they were good! I tried the shakes of my friends and they were very delicious. I really want to give this place a 2....but the banana peppers and shakes make up for it. I would try it again but maybe with the blackbean burger and different cheese. I'll give you one more chance Smashburger....tonight just wasn't a Smash.

Slow. Incredibly slow. I've waited half an hour for my order twice now. It's 330pm. Nobody here. (As of September 2013)

  • Douglas W.

We ate here twice and they got my order wrong twice on lots of levels. It's a really simple menu so it seems like it would be pretty easy to execute. I like the sweet potato smash fries but one time they had lots of rosemary and were great and the next I couldn't taste it very much. The black bean burger is way too salty but I did really enjoy the chicken sandwich. I would give them 3 stars if they didn't frustrate me to no end.

    (2)
  • Andrew A.

The burgers are actually really good, and so is the chicken sandwich. Smash fries are a must. This would get a 5 star rating if not for two critical things. First, if you are going for lunch be prepared to wait. While it takes time to make these burgers, they tend to serve the dine-in customers before the carry out patrons. And second, the food makes you feel absolutely terrible after about 30 minutes due to the massive quantities of sodium. It's not a healthy lunch at all. So if you have time and aren't completely out of shape - indulge.

It was the Friday night before Derby. We chose Smashburger cuz we wanted something fast and filling (and fresh) before we hit the Trolley Hop and riverfront festivities. Smashburger met all of our expectations. With fast, friendly service and a very enthusiastic owner, all 4 of us got our food quickly and correctly. My regular sized Swiss Mushroom Burger was just the right amount of too-much calories for me. (Unless you are famished and have superhuman metabolism, do not try the larger size.) The burger had a nice char from the flat top grill; nice amount of meat over-hang; and plenty of mushrooms and Swiss cheese. I can't believe I want to say this: it is a bit too juicy for me. It kept dripping everywhere. I wish it had a bit more salt and less drippy grease. I also got an order of sweet potato fries. It was surprisingly crispy with a hint of rosemary. It was a huge order. With help, I still only managed to finish half of it. But it really was the best sweet potato fries I've had, ever. 3 stars for the food, 1 extra star for the service.

So...hmmm...Smash burger. Great, friendly service - but I was only there a few times over the last month, not during lunch rush. First time, was kinda intrigued by the notion of a chain that allows each location to develop local menu items catering to local tastes. Second time, liked the avocado option; though I wish the kitchen understood that smashing and spicing the avocado is necessary. Duh! Then I tried the "local tastes". Insert "meh" face here: calling something a bourbon bbq sauce doesn't make it so. Moreover, there is something profoundly wrong with the fried banana peppers that they're using. It's like the breading has too much baking soda and breaks down into gooish, baking soda-fizzy yuck after a few minutes. EIther that, or they're spreading fermented peanut butter on their take-away orders. Grotty. And I'm really not sure what breaded, fried banana peppers have to do with the 'Ville? Am I missing something? It's pretty sad when you ask about the difference between two of the six available burger options (which specify bun, cheese, vegs, sauces, and added protein) and it's "fried onions" vs. "fried banana peppers." Toppings aside (bwa-hahahah), my smashburger needed a little more smashing. The whole point of flat-top cooking burgers is the chance for that lovely consistent seared flavor to develop, without charcoal-y burnt to hell bits. None of the seven (or so...blushes a bit) burgers I tried had the sort of sear depicted in each and every one of their website's photos - which were what drew me to the place, anyway. Too depressing. That aside, love their fries, both the sweet and the regular sort. As far as the versions with olive oil and a spice mix, they had potential to be amazing, except that rosemary was pretty off-putting, given the rest of the Louisville location's menu flavors. This spot would be better off changing their spice mix, given the burgers they're serving. Meh...felt like a half step up from Wendys, with some novel toppings.

The burgers are decent. The sweet potato smash fries are the standout. You are definitely not stopping here to eat healthy.

I've enjoyed smashburger in Lexington a few times, so I thought it would be a nice add to the downtown 4th St. lunch scene. Unfortunately, this location hasn't convinced me to choose it over other places nearby. I got the grilled chicken avocado club, which I've really liked in the past, but here it was just missing something, kind of bland and not something I'd order again if it had been my first experience with it. I'm sure I'll be back eventually, but I won't be suggesting it again anytime soon.

Parents were in town and staying at the Galt House. We needed to grab a quick bite before heading to the Soul Food Fest (which didn't have much of a food selection -- so good thing we did eat)! I decided to walk us down 4th Street to try one of the newer eateries on the block. And Smashburger won the battle. We had an absolutely awesome experience. None of us had been to the restaurant, so the cash register attendant gave us an awesome rundown of the menu and how things work. That always gets a big thumbs up from me! It's good to have a basic understanding of what you're getting yourself into when you try something new! My dad went with the staple -- just a regular ol' Smashburger and fries -- looked awesome, and he enjoyed. My mother had a grilled chicken and bacon concoction with sweet potato smash fries. Loved the sandwich -- but the fries were a bit greasy. I wanted to try one soooo bad, but me and heavy grease don't get along, so I resisted the temptation. I went with the black bean burger. It was Ahhhh-mazing. I'm a big fan of black beans and black bean burgers, but the burgers typically don't have a full on black bean taste and texture. Well -- this burger did, and I loved every bite. I added three of my faves to round out the flavor: pepper jack cheese, avocado and spicy brown mustard. Very tasty. Give it a try.

This was a good fresh burger, but nothing extraordinary. Dont get me wrong, if you want a fresh burger, these guys are definitely there. The burger is just good, but the fries are bomb. Garlic and olive oil are awesome. Problem for me is that the burger was just not that memorable. Good staff, very friendly. Definitely worth a try!

someone I know that lives in "the south" says they have these in their area and their good, so when I saw this one I wanted to give it a try. I forget the exact name, but I tried the (kentucky/bourbon/derby/etc.) burger and it did not disappoint. They had some decent fries and also some "smash fries" which I actually think I tried before at another location and they were horrible so I was sure to avoid those this time. What else.... let's see... hmm that's about it.

Good, but not the greatest. I would've normally given this 4 stars, based on food alone, but subtracted 1 for service during the busy lunch hour. They somehow lost my order and had to remake it, and I ended up waiting nearly 20 minutes for what I expected to be a quick meal. I had the Baja Burger, I think, with avocado on it. Pretty tasty! The smash fries are also tasty with rosemary, garlic, and sea salt. I also enjoyed their fruit teas, which are refreshing.

Another burger boutique Smash burger offers all the accompaniments we have come to expect from this kind of establishment. The burgers themselves are not to impressive, it's the selection of condiments and toppings that makes them stand out, different sauces, cheeses a selection of buns, everything ranging from a fried egg to avocado. The one thing that sets them apart from their peers are the fries. There are normal with sea salt, rosemary olive oil garlic fries (they are very good) and sweet potato fries. I find the sweet potato fries the best. Even with all of that I simply cannot give them more stars with the burgers mediocrity. They are tasty, but I can overdress a burger at home and there are other places that make great French fries. If your near fourth street and in the mode for something quick stop by smash burger.

I usually spend a week or so in Louisville every June. This June was no different. I kicked myself for not having tried Smashburger until the tail-end of my business trip. But I think I made up for it by eating there two days in a row. I ordered the spicy black bean burger, without the bun, chipotle mayo and pepper jack cheese. Quite frankly, I think both the flavored mayo and spicy cheese would have taken away from the flavor of black bean patty. With that said, I am definitely something of a purist. I tend to make my own burgers at home, using a mixture of beans, chopped veggies and oats. Call me crazy, but I think veggie burgers should taste like, um, vegetables. Smashburger, I gotta say, makes a mean black bean burger. In both of my visits--two days in a row, I might add--both of my black bean burger patties were flavorful and not at all dry. To accompany the burger, I ordered sweet potato fries on my first visit. To mix things up a bit, I ordered veggie frites the second time around. But both sides were delicious. I'm particularly fond of sweet potato fries, which is why I made it a point to try them first. I agree with the Yelpers here: the sweet potato fries are pretty great. Moreover, the fries were neither greasy nor soggy. When my order arrived, I was very pleased to discover that they must have come straight from the fryer. The veggie frites were even more impressive. An order of veggie frites came with a few thin carrot sticks and asparagus spears. It took all the willpower I had to not to place an order for three more. Like the sweet potato fries, the veggie frites were perfectly cooked, without a trace of sogginess. As for the drinks offered here, Smashburger had an array of your usual suspects of soda, but I made a beeline for their iced tea. Unlike other fast/casual places that offer overly sweet tea, Smashburger offers your choice of iced tea: herbal red (rooibos), green and black. I'm already a fan of red tea, so I made it a point to order their red tea both days. By the way, not very many fast-casual places offer iced red tea. Kudos to Smashburger for offering more choices. Because I enjoyed my lunches here so much, I made it a point to check out the Smashburger website. I was both pleased and dismayed to discover that there are locations in San Diego, California. The good news is that they're in southern California. The bad news is that they're a two-hour drive away. Now I am left contemplating whether I should make the four-hour (round trip) trek to satisfy my newly acquired black bean burger/veggie frites cravings. Ah, well I suppose I do have one more thing to look forward to next June, right? Next year, though, I will definitely be dining there as often as possible, instead of waiting until the end of the week, like a dummy.

Food is great but make sure if you have a coupon, they put it in. Been there twice with coupons and forgot to take them off both times. Caught it once.

I stopped here the other day when passing through Louisville. It was my first time at a Smashburger, and the main reason for the visit was due to time and money as it was just a quick hop on the way home. I had looked around on Yelp and Louisville's downtown seemed devoid of highly recommended places, at least at a reasonable price. This place didn't have that great of reviews either, but there were a few positive ones recently including one from an Elite yelper so I thought "why not?" and gave it a roll. Walking up to the counter I knew I was in trouble. There was barely anyone in there, yet the female clerk was having all sorts of difficulty dealing with the few customers in front of us at the register and had to go grab extra help. The guy that came sauntering up looked very unhappy and was muttering to himself before taking our order. I got a chocolate shake, the mushroom swiss truffle burger, and buffalo fries. The food came out in a reasonable amount of time and the staff was friendly when bringing it out and cleaning up. Sadly the food was mostly terrible, the burger meat tasted fine but the whole thing looked unappetizing with a big glob of goop (the mayo I guess) sitting on an open bun alongside some fries with barely a hint of anything on them. It said the buffalo fries had Franks Red Hot, but all I saw was a few sprinklings of chili powder. The shake was good, but nothing spectacular. I think the biggest irk was the mayo, which also came in a side cup that I didn't realize when I dipped my fries in it and had a nasty taste in my mouth for the rest of the day. This was one of the last of many stops on a 1500+ mile road trip and easily the worst, I won't be trying Smashburger again

During a trip to Louisville in April, I had an opportunity to check out Smashburger. Mmmmm boy! This place was delish! My friends and I were looking for a quick bite to eat, so we decided to check this place out. It was a bit crowded due to a large convention in the area, so I understood the wait. The menu consists of your choice of burger or chicken, salads, fries, and hand-spun shakes. I was HUNGRY, but wasn't in the mood for a burger so I chose the bbq, bacon, and cheddar chicken burger. You can choose between grilled or breaded chicken. Wasn't concerned with calories so I ordered the breaded chicken. For my side, I selected the smash fries, which are thin cut fries tossed in olive oil, rosemary, and garlic. It cost me less than $15. Pretty reasonable. As I previously mentioned, the place was slammed, so it was a bit messy. The customer service was ok. Nothing exceptional. I think the staff was worn out from all the convention goers. It took awhile for me to receive my order. I just figured it was due to the fact that chicken takes longer to cook. I immediately dug in. My goodness. Delish! Everything was hot because it was made to order. The smash fries were tastier than I expected. Crispy and I enjoyed the oil and seasoning. It was not overwhelming at all although I wouldn't have minded a tad less oil. My chicken burger was pretty good. There was not one single complaint around the table regarding our food. My friends thoroughly enjoyed their burgers. If I am ever in "The Ville" again, I would definitely visit this spot again. It's a nice alternative to the typical burger joints.
