To be honest, I though I had reviewed Sister Bean's years ago. Whoops. Well, better late than never. I'll start by saying I'm not really a coffee drinker, so if you're looking for coffee expertise, skip to the next review. However, I do love trying out spots in my neighborhood. This is the closest coffee shop to my house, so if I am in need for a tasty coffee-drink, it's easy for me to hit up. I like the drinks that don't really taste like coffee, and they have a number of those here. They also have great drink specials, which they oftentimes post on their Facebook page. I've also had them willing to modify drinks or help me figure out what I really want, which is much appreciated, since I'm somewhat clueless when it comes to coffee. Sister Bean's also serves Comfy Cow ice cream (my fav!) and has other food items. I've had a few of their pastries and a sandwich or two over the years, and I've always been pleasantly satisfied. They have a drive thru window, but there is also lots of comfy seating inside. They sometimes have events as well and seem to be good neighbors to the area. Iroquois Park is just across the street, so it's easy to pop over there. I'm definitely a fan!

3 1/2 to 4 stars. Of all the local coffee shops that I've tried, it's definitely the one I like the least. BUT, it's still solid. It's basically like Starbucks, just not a chain. One thing it has going for it - it's directly across the street from the Disc Golf course at Iroquois Park. After you finish a round, just pop across the street to Sister Bean's. Buy local. It's why this place gets 4 stars.

What a cozy spot to grab some coffee and a quick bite on the South Side! I'm not in this area very much, but when I am I will definitely come back. And bonus: They have a drive-through! And Comfy Cow ice cream! During my recent visit, I ordered a coffee -- strong but not over-roasted -- and a $4.99 chicken avocado sandwich, which was grilled and includes the aforementioned ingredients plus tomato pesto, cheese and bacon on focaccia bread. It definitely hit the spot. I didn't get a chance to check out the all-important power outlet situation for laptops, but I and a fellow Yelp Elite were able to chat easily and comfortably. Other people read the newspaper or worked on computers. Sister Bean's also has a couple of comfy-looking couches as well as smaller tables. Also of note, this Sister Bean's has two community computers. Neat to know in case you're in need.

This is definitely a coffee shop where you can grab your coffee and go with their super duper quick service and drive thru window, or stay the day snuggled up in their cozy chairs with a good book. Added coffee shop perks: a kiddie area and shelf full of local goods for sale. On a beautiful day why not swing by Iroquois Park and take a stroll as you sip on your drink?

Derby City Joe Review #8 What makes this Coffee Shop Sing? - Quaint, cute and easy to miss, Sister Beans is the epitome of a full service, family owned coffee house. A sign boasts "Coffee for the Independent Thinker" but a more fitting marquee might be "Everyone Welcome." As you zip down Taylor Blvd, you have to keep an eye out for the giant sign in the shape of a coffee mug signaling the location of Sister Beans. This coffee house was founded by a pair of siblings which, fittingly, includes a sister nicknamed Beanie. The family moved their only store to the current location a few years back and is now loaded with regulars. The barista confessed with a shrug that, when it comes to customers, "I know more people who come in here than I don't." Sister Beans has the usual array of seating you'd expect to find in a relatively small space: Bar stools along the bar, a few tables, two big comfy chairs, one inviting couch and picnic tables outside. There are also two somewhat awkwardly mounted computers that are completely free for anyone to use. Loads of homemade items and crafts in the form of jewelry, scarfs and candles for sale on consignment are scattered throughout. Two blends of drip coffee were on tap for the tasting that day. Their coffee comes from a company called Crimson Cup Roasters out of Ohio which you can also purchase by the bag. Smoothies, pastries, baked goods and more are all prominently featured behind the counter. Sister Beans also offers impressive looking lunch offerings that would have been pretty tempting if it wasn't 9:00 AM. Coffee of The Day - I sampled "Armando's Blend" over my other option of Dark Columbian. My mug was more hot than fresh. It had a bold aroma but the taste didn't really deliver on that olfactory promise. Overall, It was an adequate cup with a bit of a bitter aftertaste. Cost of a small mug of Joe - $2.00 Cost of a Refill - $1.00 Staff - A pair of atypical coffee shop baristas had traits that were more in line with an endearing diner waitress - friendly, loud, efficient and overly caffeinated. Crowd- Relatively calm and quiet during my visit. Only a couple of people sitting inside with the majority of the action happening in the drive through Wi-Fi - Locked with a password that's clearly posted. Décor -There is a larger room in the back for groups, but that seems to be geared more for book clubs, church groups and the occasional city council member coffee klatch than for high power business meetings or intense study groups. Music - A somewhat quiet, static filled radio station that I finally determined to be WFPK. Bonus - Unique to almost every coffee shop I've been to, there is a small play area with toys for the wee ones. Better yet, stop here to grab a cool beverage or a scoop of Comfy Cow Ice Cream before heading directly across the street to enjoy a free Monday Night flick at Iroquois Amphitheater this summer.

I am constantly passing this place and when I was in school I went here a lot I between classes. That was about a year ago. I have always had a good experience here! The food is always fresh and on point. I used to come here to study as well. Such a quiet place and they even have computers for you to use. I love how it's not too far from everything and right across from the park makes it my stop every time I'm there. The not only have coffee and great tea the. Even have a variety of other beverages. They also have a reward program card!! I would recommend this place to anyone. The prices are reasonable and won't break your wallet.

Sister Beans is hands down the best coffee shop in Louisville. I cannot say anything but great things about this place. They make Starbucks taste horrible!

We recently moved closer to this area, and a friend suggested Sister Bean to us. We were pleased. Nice little place, and cool that it has a drive thru. My husband had a black coffee and I had one of their blended drinks. It was good. Nothing mind-blowing, but I would go back. It's a nice alternative to Starbucks.

Delicious drinks, friendly staff, & cozy/welcoming atmosphere. It was a hot day so I had an iced chai and my husband got the frozen hot chocolate. We also decided to split a sticky bun which was delicious! We'll definitely be coming back here, especially since it's so convenient to home for us. Oh! And they have a drive thru!

First off, the customer service is great. The Batista was knowledgeable and excited to help with my ordering decision. The peppermint mocha is a solid choice for someone looking for a sweet drink. There are comfortable couches avalanche for those long stays at the shop.

This is one of the best places around. The frozen Samoa and frozen Mayan mocha coffee drinks are the most delicious drinks I have ever tasted. The service can be a little slow, but the drinks are so great, it's worth the wait. Their menu is about comparable in price to Starbucks, but their drinks so much better! Next time you are near Iroquois park you have to check this place out! :)

Nice locally owner operated place, great location, always kind & polite service, good coffee. They also sell baked treats, sandwiches, & Comfy Cow ice cream. A wonderful South End business. :)

This place has the potential to be awesome. The baked goods, the cupcakes specifically taste as though they've been frozen and kept refrigerated, they have that refrigerator taste. Also, they seem to be short staffed often. I waited in line, inside for 12 minutes one day, there were 2 people in front of me and only one person working. She was working both the drive thru and the counter. I left and decided to just go through the drive thru, where I got my order within 4 minutes. Aside from the baked goods, every drink I've had from here has been great!

Pretty good coffee/latte stop. Good food items, wi-fi, etc. I would visit again. A bit cold inside here, but ok. Is a cold morning outside too. Cozy atmosphere otherwise. Electric fireplace going is a help too.

Went here on 3-3-13 it was the best coffee place I've been too! Way better then Starbucks aond a little cheaper! I had the white mint mocha expresso and my friend had the white mocha frozen coffee! We both enjoyed the place and how inviting it was!

This place is a coffee oasis in an area where you are otherwise left to resort to whatever coffee you can find at the local gas station. Sister Bean's prices are reasonable, their drinks are tasty, and their baristas are friendly. In fact, their barista was more than happy to tell me the story behind the name "Sister Bean" when I stopped in today, which is apparently derived from a relationship that the brother and sister owner had with a Catholic nun who was known as Sister Bean when they were young. Top all of that off with the fact that they serve Comfy Cow ice cream and you've got a winning combination. Stop by, have a drink, and ask for the whole story behind Sister Bean. You are sure to enjoy yourself far more than if you grab a coffee at Speedway.

Some places are all about the atmosphere. And Sister Bean's is a place that, for me, is about the memories this particular atmosphere holds. Everything is warm and inviting. A wonderfully homey feel, from the little computer bar to the little leather sofa that seems to just wrap you in, and the superbly, friendly service. They treat each customer like an old friend. Even a book shelf with a small but interesting choice of used books that seemingly ask to be read. It's a place that brings comfort, like a nice, encompassing hug. So, get comfortable, sit back, grab a coffee or if it's a hot afternoon, maybe a scoop of Comfy Cow ice cream. Thumb through a book, strike up a conversation with a stranger, or bring a good friend and just let the day slow down a little and enjoy that extra time spending it with someone special.

Sister Beans is literally down the street from my house, so it's super convenient. It's also nice to have a sit down coffee shop in the South end. It's one of the only places in town where you can get hand dipped ice cream as well. $1.00 small coffee when you drive-thru Monday - Friday. My only complaint is that once when I used my debit card to buy a coffee (I had no cash at all), the employee gave me a talking to about how they get charged for when people use their debit cards. He wasn't very friendly about it and it really turned me off. I didn't go back for a long time afterwards. As a small business owner, I understand business and overhead costs but really - your customer doesn't give a crap about how you get charged pennies on the dollar for a credit transaction. And if it's a big deal, then have a minimum spending amount for charges. Ranting to customers about it when they are trying to purchase your product is only going to piss them off. After this happened, I decided to take a long break from Sister Bean's. Since I've been going back, I haven't had anymore not-so-friendly encounters and the coffee has been good. I'm glad I gave it a second chance.

Tried this place for the first time last week. It's about a mile from my new job. I got a turkey blt wrap. It was ok, nothing too special. I decided to try their drink special. It was a harvest spice mocha. I had it iced. It was delicious! I only drink coffee type drinks occasionally. This was sooo good. I've been craving another one ever since. I'm definitely going back this week.

Really nice inside a place that is cozy and good for hang outs. The iced coffee is not dark enough, but if you like sweet coffee it's better than Starbucks.

Good beverages, amazing staff the hours should be expanded. It is a small little coffee house and with the new construction onw would think that is would not have much of an atmosphere, but indeed this little shop has it.
