Several years ago a friend had to twist my arm to meet him at Shiraz for lunch. LOL Since then I can't count the times I have returned and even used them for a large family gathering. The food is excellent especially the chicken and mahi mahi kabobs. I love the lentil rice with raisins as well as the shawarma wrap. The food tastes fresh and healthy. We prefer the Poplar Level Rd location where the staff is friendly and helpful. We also like the Frankfort Ave location but it is rather small.

I've now had three solid lunch experiences at Shiraz. Twice I had the chicken kebab plate, and once the steak kebabs, each time with sides of hummus and quinoa salad. Totally tasty and quite healthy, and service has been friendly and quick (though not suspiciously quick). My only complaint is that the pita bread hasn't been the freshest, but this really isn't a deal-breaker.

My husband's lamb loin combo was on the salty side and the herb rice was on the dry side. He wasn't too drilled about his meal. I like my chicken combo though, it was moist and well seasoned. We thought the meals were pricey, ($35 for both of us for lunch). The habanero sauce was delicious but beware!, it's not part of the meal, they'll charge extra 50cents/75 cents for a small cup, not enough to satisfy me. I got to give kudos to the service though, fast and friendly. The owner (I assumed) walked around and checked on his customers.

Some of the food at Shiraz tastes good, but it isn't worth the hefty price. Mirage the competing Mediterranean restaurant is a lot more reasonable. The last time I went to Shiraz we ordered lamb and they put a bone with barely any meat on it on a bed of rice and charged too much for it. Needless to say, I won't be visiting. Shiraz again anytime soon.

We love this place and the owner Ashkon is freakin awesome! He will make you feel welcome every time. Chicken rice WITH LOTS OF RAISINS ARE THE BEST!!!

My first time at Shiraz, and I had a very pleasant experience. I would give the place, and my dining experience about a 4.8 stars, which rounds up to five. Although I dined inside, I will probably opt for the outdoor seating next time--it's so lovely (see photos)! As for the food, I had the "Spicy" Avocado Bruschetta and falafel. The bruschetta was definitely not spicy, but it was tasty. Although its name indicates that it is spicy, I wasn't at all displeased that there was no spiciness. My only complaint is that the bread it was served on was too crunchy. Some May like it that way, but I would prefer the bread a bit softer. The crunch and taste of the bread reminded me of a time when I accidentally overbaked reheated pizza, but ate it anyway. Just too browned. But that's just my taste. Nevertheless, the appetizer was good. The falafel was excellent, and actually had a spicy flavor. It was served in a generous portion of two large halves, as you can see from my photos. I want to also comment on the excellent service. It was speedy, and the cashier was very pleasant, polite and friendly. The restroom was clean, also. I will definitely return.

Solid food here - this is one my dinner rotation restaurants. I like the Chicken kebab with Herb rice and tabbouleh while my wife usually enjoys the Mahi Mahi kebab. The herbal rice and fatoosh salad with falafel are another favorite. For desert, they make the best Baklava in town. Friendly service although the wait can be a tad long at times.

I've been to this location a couple of times and was pleased each time. I had the chicken combo last time with herbed rice and the cucumber sauce. It also comes with a drink so I mixed a lil' sweet tea with un-sweet tea. It is a good value for lunch. It comes with a small side also. The service is very friendly.

Went to eat at the location on Poplar Level. It was Sunday 12/21/14 around 5:30PM they were out of food. We had a small group of people waiting for one more person to show up. The staff behind the counter wasn't scrambling to cook anything or even tell us they were out of food. When one of of group went to order, the girl listed off the food they were out of and it was about a 3rd of the menu so we left. Its a shame was looking forward to try the food here.

Spent 5 hours at the zoo, got so wrapped up that we forgot to eat. Consulted the local Yelps, found out the closest place was Shiraz. It sounded familiar, had good reviews, and only 2 minutes away. We had to investigate. The restaurant was at the end of a small but fairly new-looking strip mall. The interior was very clean, colorful, with hand-painted accents on some of walls. The menu was a little overwhelming at first, but managed to settle on a Chicken Kebab with tzatziki sauce, with tabbouleh and the herbed rice (recommended by the staff). My wife ordered the Lamb Kebab (since we're fans of lamb and find it so rarely) with the habanéro pesto, with hummus and the herbed rice. The lamb was a little pricey and wasn't posted (listed as Market Price) but I figured it was worth the occasional luxury. So we sat and waited for our food. It took a little while, but they apologized saying the lamb took a little longer to cook. Didn't care, we just wanted to eat. I'll say that I've had better Mediterranean food, but not often. We each tasted our entrees and my wife and I discussed trading... Just so we could each get the most out of our visit. She begrudgingly accepted my offer of two chicken kebabs for one lamb. Very begrudgingly. One bite and I figured out why. The chicken was moist, succulent, and well-seasoned. As enjoyable as chicken can get. But the lamb... was jaw-droppingly fantastic. I will return to eat this again. The herbed rice was excellent, the tabbouleh was decent (although a little coarse), the tzatziki was good and garlicky (mixed with the rice). But that lamb. I mean, do they really need to sell anything else?

If you're near the zoo or the MegaCavern and get hungry, this is the place to go. Quick, delicious food at a reasonable price - we only had an hour to burn between ziplining and a tram tour at the MegaCavern, and we ate at Shiraz and still had time to spare. I got a veggie quesadilla, which consisted of fresh shopped veggies mixed with quinoa and spread with avocado, and it was delicious. My cousin enjoyed her kabab and lentil rice. Shiraz is an unassuming place, but I can't think of anything they could've done better.

Wow. Stopped by for a late lunch after a day at the Zoo. We were quite hungry, and it's good we were. My husband got the chicken kabob combo, I got the lamb kabob combo. Took a few minutes extra thanks to the lamb- but worth it!! Wow. Delish. Tender, juicy, and delightfully seasoned. The Herbal Rice was excellent. And even better with some of the habeñero pesto on top. The Hummus was my other side, it was okay.

Ordered chicken kabobs and fatoush salad with sweet potatoe fries. The kabobs were decent not truly mediterranean with the heavy marinade flavor but decent and the salad wa nothing like a real fatoush salad. It was just lettuce, tomatoes with Feta and sumah but no pita chips and no olives, no cucumber and basically no flavor at all. It said that it had parsely and olives but i didnt have any in mine. The yogurt dip they served tastes bad to me. ) The sweet potatoe fries were the best of the meal. But they treated them like a dessert and added sugar to them which I would ask to leave off next time. Over all its ok but its certainly NOT what i expect from true Mediterranean food.

My brothers worked at the Shiraz on hurstbourne 8 years ago. Love the food. I'm leaving a 1 star review as a comment on the management at the Poplar Level location. I called their location and asked to speak to a manager, hoping to discuss with them my interest in catering a large, 80 person family event in the future. As the cashier put down the phone to get the manager, I could clearly hear the manager shouting back, " I don't want to speak to anyone today - not anyone- not unless it's my wife and kids." I hung up right then. If the manager of this Shiraz can't bother to field a simple phone call from a customer, well then they'll miss out on our very large order for a future event.

OUTSTANDING lamb chops and steak kabobs!! You will not eat better Mediterranean food anywhere. The owner is a family man with a passion for food, customer service and cleanliness. I have tried almost everything on the menu at least twice and I promise you will not be disappointed. I suggest you ask for a side of habanero sauce to go along with your food. They grow a lot of their own ingredients and you can taste the freshness in the food you order. Note: I have also tried Mediterranean food at the other places around town and they do NOT compare to Shiraz.

This is my favorite location of this restaurant. The staff has always been very nice and super helpful. I always order a hummus appetizer to share with whoever I'm with; it's always so flavorful. The chicken and shrimp are always winners in my book. Be sure and get one of their frequent diner cards, after so many combos you get a free one! :)

Best Mediterranean food I have had in Louisville. The Shiraz Eggplant is amazing. Great steak kabobs and even the rice was great. Kids loved it. Bonus points. Good people making good food! All the calorie counts are on the menu too. This place just made our list.

Have been here a handful of times since moving here a few months ago and NEVER had a bad experience. It may be slightly on the pricey side, but for the quality of the food you get, it's well worth it, I usually get a kabob combo or the shawarma (spelling?) wrap. Chicken is always flavorful and perfectly cooked (never dry). Sides are great! Try the herbal rice, balal and sweet potato fries. The sauces are excellent as well. Also, along with the great food, the staff is extremely friendly and helpful, especially the owner who is usually there. I'm so glad I live just minutes away because it is my favorite lunch spot in Louisville so far!

My goodness, what a great place!!! My family just enjoyed a delicious, "home cooked" dinner. The owner is absolutely wonderful and puts a lot of care and love into his food and restaurant. My husband ordered the lamb, something he never had before and asked the owner (who was serving us) to make it just the way he would eat it. He did exactly that and my husband declared it was one of the best meals he had ever eaten. I had the chicken shwarma, which was delicious. The chicken was beautifully marinated and tasty!! The kids had chicken and rice and a grilled cheese and rice. They all loved their food. Overall, I'm very impressed with this restaurant and plan on eating here a lot in the future. I saw that there is also salmon on the menu, that will be my pick next time. It's really nice to have a place to go get dinner where the food is homemade, not processed or "previously frozen and reheated". Here, they make their own marinades and sauces and grow the herbs in their own garden! The chicken is antibiotic free too. That's a big plus!

Will not EVER be back. Went in Wednesday Sept 11th for a weekly dinner out with a friend. Ordered the "Jumbo Shrimp Kabob Combo". Cost $11.99 (even though the website says the cost is just $9.99) It came with 6 small NOT jumbo shrimp that were both tough/over cooked and had an off putting odor. Two small slices of Lavash bread and an iceberg lettuce "fatoosh salad". No other grilled vegetables or anything were on the plate. I went back up to the counter and asked if I was missing the grilled vegetables and such since this was supposed to be a "kabob". They said no that was all it came with. I then asked, "Wait so you mean if I would have gotten the 'kabob only' with no salad for $7.99 it would have just been the 6 small shrimp and two slivers of bread?" They said yes. THE PLACE IS AN UTTER RIP OFF. If you want better mediterranean food at a fair price I suggest Zaytun's on Bardstown Rd. or The Falafel House on Baxter Ave.

Chicken kabob with fatoush salad was mediocre and missed the intense spices that I look for in Middle Eastern food. The hummus was okay and consistent with a cultural style that is not as smooth as Palestinain or Isaraeli hummus. The order came with a sliver of lavash and sufficient pita for the hummus. Overall, a clean and efficient restaurant that offers standard Middle Eastern food. A good place to grab a quick lunch and hop back on I264 or Eastern Parkway.

My first visit here was pretty a-ok. The grilled shrimp were tasty. The fatoush salad with quinoa was interesting (in a good way), though I would have liked more cheese on it :-) The onions on top were a little too charred...they tasted like campfire. The eggplant I expected to be a little more like baba ganoush, and just wasn't to my liking. The hummus was pretty great and my bite of my friend's chicken was good too. I am sure I will be back.

I really like Shiraz. This place is near my home and I frequent it fairly regularly. The Shiraz Rolls are out of this world. Stuffed with feta, tomatoes, and herbs in lavash,so so good!! The salmon and chicken kabobs are really tasty, although the salmon can sometimes be on the dry side. The quinoa is also yummy.

Shiraz is bright, warm, modern, and inviting. The service is impeccable and most of the food that I tasted during my first visit was fresh and flavorful. As an added bonus Shiraz posts their nutrition information on their website and in their store and their food is remarkably healthy compared to many other restaurants. Their hummus is by far the best that I have ever tasted. Much of the hummus that I had previously tried was either bland or overpoweringly seasoned with garlic. Shiraz's hummus was perfectly seasoned and topped with tomatoes and cilantro and served with lavash bread. I could have eaten plate after plate of it. Half of my Shwarma wrap was also perfect with grilled chicken, fatoosh salad, and tzatziki sauce. However the other half was unsauced leaving it dry and tasteless. I also tried the Balal and it was excellent. I've eaten many ears of corn in the cob in my lifetime but I've never had corn on the cob that was fire roasted and soaked in sea salt. However, I intend to come back and order it over and over again. Overall this was an excellent meal. I intend to eat at Shiraz again and will likely increase their rating once I get to sample more of their menu.

This is the best Mediterranean restaurant I have ever been to. I always get the hummus as a starter and it is the best I've ever eaten. If you're a hummus fan definitely try it at Shiraz! I also love the chicken panini. It is spicy and loaded with hot chicken and fresh quinoa. I have never gotten a bad meal here or bad service. This is now a regular lunch spot for me!

Credibly good Middle Eastern fare in an underutilized strip center, this is by far the best restaurant in the Audubon/Camp Taylor area. Falafels are crisp and tasty, steak and/or chicken kebabs (served without a stick to my childish dismay) are all solid entries. The decor is well done but a bit on the overly bright side in my opinion. The prices were more than reasonable.

I cannot get enough of this place. Its one of those things where you want to go all the time but in the back of your mind you think.... they are going to see me here everyday. well i say SO WHAT! You should be able to go there everyday, much like I do, and not FALAFEL about it. Ha Ha. I kill me! and I can put some hurting on some Shiraz food. everyday.

Overall a below average establishment. Prices were relatively high and portions were small. I ordered the lamb kabob and got a bone kabob with a sliver of lamb. The sauces were good. Maybe other menu options are decent but I was not impressed with mine.

Best dang falafel in town. Fresh ingredients, vegetarian options (obviously), very reasonable prices (especially with their student discount), lovely presentation (seriously, it's Instagram-worthy), and a nice, relaxed ambiance. I'll be back again. And again.

Great fresh ingredients. They take great care to serve the best and prepare it in the best way possible. If you get a chance, ask for the Tadik, which is the bread cooked at the bottom of the rice pot. Crispy and fantastic. Make sure you get a side of Tziki sauce and one of their Chipotle sauce. Fantastic. The Hummus is the best in Louisville. The prices are very reasonable with most entrees under $10. Also, ask for the hot tea,

I had been wanting to try this place for a while. Prior to doing so, I decided to take on a vegetarian diet. Glancing over the menu again, I decided I still wanted to eat here because, along with all the meaty items on the menu, there are several appetizers and entrees without meat. In the end... I loved it! I can't wait to return and try another entree. I would award a 5th star, but this location is a little awkward getting in and out (in a car). Not a terribly big deal.

This place is totally cute - a very relaxing environment. The menu mostly consists of meats grilled kebab style with your choice of sides. Portions are pretty big, and prices are reasonable (at least, in the mind of a Seattlite), even though you can tell the prices have gone up. I guess it's tough to hide that fact when you paint your original menu on the wall - only way to change the prices is to cover up the old one with a piece of paper (at least, that's what they do). But integrating the menu into the wall art is cool regardless. I got a chicken kebab combo with an extra skewer of shrimp. The shrimp was alright, but I'd go without next time - the chicken ended up being pretty filling by itself. The rice serving was hefty, and the hummus - while a bit bland - was still tasty with the flatbread. Toward the end of the meal, one of the employees dropped off a couple pieces of baklava for my co-worker and I to have on the house. Very nice! The baklava was good - less honey flavor than I'm used to, but c'mon - it's hard to knock free baklava. All in all, a great place to grab a quick bite.

The steak and chicken kebabs were awesome. Juicy, tender, and flavorful! The herb rice was also amazingly full of flavor. Only downside was the shiraz panini, which was really weird. I'm not sure what to say about that one. Order at the counter, and then find a seat and wait for your food. Enjoy!

Visited this place night and it's my new favorite restaurant. The staff is friendly and took the time to go over the menu with us since we weren't sure what we wanted. I ordered the sharmwah wrap with chicken and the spicy avocado bruschetta and was blown away! Light, flavorful, I was very happy!
