Hands down, the best steak in Louisville. The blue cheese dressing is also incredible! The service always exceeds expectations and it's good to see a family work in a successful business together like this. If you are in Louisville, Pat's is a must!

Overpriced. Overpriced. Steaks are average. Not worth $16 and up. $26 for their Irish meatloaf? I can have one much better at the Irish Rover for $12.99. Not sure why people pay top dollar here for fast food flavor....

I went to Pat's with very high expectations. I was told that it was the best steak in Louisville. Wow, was I disappointed. The steak was okay and I thought that the available sides were terrible. The decor and restaurant were very different from a lot of places in Louisville but that did not make up for the meal. Very high priced and lacking flavor in my opinion. Also, they did not accept credit cards, so I had to leave my wife at the table at the end of the meal so I could run to the ATM. Ridiculous!! You drop at least $100 on a couple of steaks and need to have cash? Even McDonald's takes credit cards now.

If a grotesquely (and unnaturally) girthy, bacon-wrapped, completely unseasoned "filet mignon" is what you like, you may enjoy the steak. I regularly eat filets at some of the most highly regarded steakhouses in the US, and this was a massive disappointment to me and my guest... we were expecting a top-tier cut of beef that was seasoned properly. After biting into my mid-rare steak that had a 1/16 of an inch of complete char on the outside and zero flavor, I asked for our waiter. I questioned whether I had actually received a filet as the diameter of the cut was about 5" and I have never seen a center cut filet diameter larger than 3". He said the owner does something to them to make them that big when he cuts them. I also brought up the fact the it was bacon wrapped (which is not mentioned on the menu at all) and has no seasoning. I have never been served a "high end" steak that needed to be bacon wrapped... that is No-Name steaks and Applebees quality in my honest opinion. The server did offer to send the owner (Pat) over, but we declined and reluctantly suffered through our meal. It was tough (had to saw through it with a cheap diner style steak knife) and I had to add a ton of salt (cheap iodized salt out of a greasy salt shaker) to even begin to taste natural flavor of the meat. After we had endured all we could, Pat (the owner) came to our table to ask how everything was... I repeated my complaints and he told us that he has been serving steak the "proper way" for 50 some years and the tenderloins are that big because he only gets them from special big cows! Apparently the other top steak houses in the country don't have access to this crazy cut of "tenderloin." The sides were something you would expect from high school cafeteria ... not an alleged high end restaurant. Canned green beans, cauliflower covered in liquid cheese and hash browns that Perkins or Denny's would serve to a drunk college student. The beer selection was pitiful... two tap beers and not a single IPA (in bottle or tap form). Their best vodka was Grey Goose. The server (Billy) was only outstanding part of the experience... aside from the fact that he, and most of the service staff, were wearing tennis shoes. I will never be back and would recommend any modern style steak lover steer clear of this place... there are many other options in the Louisville area that blow this place away. The only reason for 2 stars is for the professionalism of our server (Billy).

My family was excited to visit a Louisville icon; we had been told such good things about it! So we were extremely disappointed when we experienced this "icon." Our shrimp cocktail was clearly not house made - at $22 per 6 shrimp, I expected more. Our salads were wilted with over-ripe tomatoes and what seemed like bottled dressing. The filet mignon was completely unseasoned and could not be eaten as served. The creamed cauliflower contained steamed cauliflower and canned cheese sauce. The green beans came from a can and were cooked almost beyond recognition. In addition, the restaurant itself was dirty. The walls next to our booth were splashed with previous diners' grease and food. It had a very neglected, musty feel. Finally, the service started out fine, but quickly degenerated to the point that our water glasses remained empty for over 20 minutes and our tea was refilled rarely. Our party of 4 paid $250. When we left, we all agreed that it was the worst meal we had eaten in years. Our son summed it up: "If we pay $250 for a meal, the meal should be better than what you get at Logan's." We will not be back, but will instead frequent Logan's, Outback, and other chain-type steakhouses. At least their food is seasoned and is predictably tasty.

Riding on their laurels? We chose Pat's based on online reviews (the Thrillist), but our experience was very disappointing. The best part of the evening was being greeted by Pat, who was very friendly. Waiters' jackets were quite dirty. The food was unremarkable. The menu said our entrée would have roasted squash in it, but only found one piece in the dish. The music on the patio was too loud for conversation, but they would not turn it down even when asked several times. (They tried, but it could not be turned down, only off. Off would've been better!). The Keylime pie was awful. The crust tasted very stale, and the filling too. The whipped cream on top was old and dried out. Was this a frozen pie pulled out of the freezer? Our server forgot many things, and seemed put out when we reminded him of them. We ordered a glass of wine, but never received it. Perhaps Pat's was a good place to eat at one time, but it is tired and worn-out now. Expected much more for the very pricy price!

If you like old, dark wood steakhouses where the food is consistently decent then Pat's is for you. I have to say that it has slid downhill over the years but they are still worth a stop. My biggest complaint is their cash only rule. Go for the fillet.

Some of the worst food I've ever had. First we started with the oyster app $16. It was a large goblet of shrimp sause and floating inside were 7 oysters. How can you serve oysters that are not freshly shucked? I bet these came preshucked in a plastic bucket, like how they have at sam's club. I ordered the filet, it was the 12oz. It had almost no flavor just a slab of meat for $43. They advertise free sides. I had a salad which was ok. The other 2 sides were a small cup of canned green beans and a cup of cauliflower with nacho cheese. My friend ordered the Irish meatloaf $26. It was a pound of flavorless meat soaked and floating in ketchup. I guess I should have trusted the reviews and the fact it was the only place not requiring reservations on st pattys day. Also this place feels like a spot you would go with your grandparents or if you collect social security. We were definitely the youngest people there at 30. For about $50 per person, you could get a great meal at jack frys or eddie merlots. They know how to make a real aged steak.

Service was the best part of the meal. Otherwise this may have been the worst meal I've ever eaten. The meatloaf was raw at the center and unseasoned, topped with what appeared to be heated canned tomatoes. Sides were mediocre at best. They did have an impressive reserve wine list. Would be worried that it was the real thing but '03 Opus One was a steal. Also, a steakhouse without a ribeye cut? Where is Gordon Ramsey when you need him.

We went to Pat's because of its reputation of the best steaks in town. What a disappointment. My steak was prepared to correct medium temp but really lacked flavor. I was surprised. One persons steak was supposed to be medium but came out well done. This would have been no big deal had the server came over and checked with our table shortly after receiving our entrees. Unfortunately that did not happen and we finally had to flag down the server. But by the time he got the replacement entree, we are all done except him. When you pay this much for a steak, I expect better. Services on our beverages was equally slow and often had to be reminded to the server to bring. Last but not least, the guy that bussed our table between courses smelled like he had smoked a pack of cigarettes before he arrived at our table. The smoke fumes from him basically ruined the smell of an otherwise pleasant aroma of the food. The decor of Pats was nothing spectacular. While I heard it was pretty much a 1970 s style paneling so I didn't anticipate anything other than that. But just so you know that you're not having a new atmosphere when you go to this place All in all : Not going back. BTW. The combination salad did not look fresh. I have better at franchises at half the price.

I dined at Pat's with a large group over the Christmas holidays and although they were very busy with many other groups, the service was still great: efficient, friendly and fast. But after hearing many positive reviews about Pat's Steakhouse I was expecting better food. The Porterhouse I ordered was tough and dry. The plate it was on was sloppy with juices and the vegetables were too soft and tasteless, probably canned vegetables. I know Pat's been around for a while, I just don't see the appeal.

Had not been here in a while and won't be back! I ordered the veal...expecting the usual grilled veal I get elsewhere. It came deep fried! Really? Ugh! For $25 I expected better! The "Bill" came on a 3x5 index card...hand written! It was divided into "liquor total, other beverages, and food". We basically had to take it on faith that it was accurate! The service was bad..although he profusely apologized each time he tardily came to check on us. Hard to imagine this place making it with so many other high end eateries in the area!

Great service. Owner came out and greeted us. However, we had several insects flying around us all night. We killed two and showed the waiter one of our deceased. Steak was great. Side items were OK. I was expecting more of a side item when we are paying a huge fortune for the food. Wine was chilled.

I recently had a 5 year anniversary dinner at Pat's Steakhouse. We were sat in the bar area probably because it was just the two of us. Personally, I cannot stand sitting in the bar area of restaurants. I find the TV to be distracting and for the area to get pretty loud. Thankfully, this wasn't the case at Pat's. I ordered the Seafood Platter and my boyfriend ordered the New York Strip. We both really enjoyed our meals. His steak was perfectly cooked and my seafood was delicious. You do get quite a bit of food with your meal. Our server kept our glasses full and was very attentive. Pat himself stopped by our table to congratulate us on our anniversary! Our server asked if we were there for a special occasion and since we were, he served us a complimentary desert, a fudge brownie sundae. It was delicious. I was entirely stuffed from my meal but I could not stop eating! Next visit I will certainly be ordering one of these! Overall, Pat's was an excellent choice for our special occasion. I really enjoy restaurants who have a great ambiance without becoming to pretentious. Pat's has the perfect balance. I will return.

The steaks here are as good as all the other fine chain restaurants. I give this place 4 stars for the elegance and dining experience. It's unlike going to Ruth's Chris. The waiters are knowlegable, and the sides are plentiful. Be forewarned: DOES NOT TAKE CREDIT CARDS. This is annoying, yes. But just be prepared.

Great cut of steak. Great quality of steak. Great cook time on the medium rare filet. Very poor flavor. They do not season or prep any of their steaks. It looked amazing and tasted bad. You need to have steak sauce for your nice steak which is unacceptable. The owner is stuck in the past - dated decor - horrible steak prep. The owners son was very hospitable (only reason it didn't get 1 star) and I think when this restaurant has new management it will be deserving of its title of best steak in Louisville. Upon our complaint, they offered us a free slice of cookie and ice cream which was better than the actual dinner.

Pat's Steakhouse is absolutely the best place to go for an after Derby Dinner. It was completely packed (don't even think about showing up without a reservation). The food was incredible. I had the half fried Chicken and it was finger licking good. Also, normally lima beans are a no go, but they were incredible. Do not forget to try them. Not only was the service good on such a busy day, but the owner even had time to stop by our table twice. I don't know what else I can say because we had such a great time there that I can't wait to go back.

I have no idea why this place has an average of 3 out of 5 stars. You people don't know good steak. I guess they think the best steaks around are from Texas Roadhouse...ew. This wonderful little gem is the best place to get a steak in Louisville hands down. The way their steaks are made, they are super juicy and sizzling on a hot plate of wonder. The sides you get are amazing (my fav is the cheesy cauliflower). All the dressings for the salads are homemade (blue cheese is the best but the thousand island is a close second). The food is just simply amazing. My vote goes here for the best wait staff in the city. And take someone there for their birthday, you get a crooner type birthday tune. lovely. simply a treat to eat at.

A couple of people in my group said that this was the best steak that they ever had, but I wasn't feeling it. My steak was OK, but I've had much better elsewhere.

Very charming place with very good steaks. I really liked their soup and salad as well. The only knock for here is they DON'T accept credit cards. To me that is a little strange in this day and age.

As a former native Kentuckian 30+ years ago, I thought I'd try Pat's as they were supposed to be one of the best steak houses in Louisville. I have to say, it was one of the worst meals I've ever had. First of all, I ordered the special porterhouse steak for $55. The 2 side dishes (beans and sweet potato fries) were included as was the salad. The beans were soggy and overcooked. the sweet potato fries were delicious. The salad was so so as it was nothing spectacular to speak of. The service was attentive, however, the steak arrived and it looked quite tasty. I love a good steak and this was one I was looking forward to sinking my teeth in to. It looked delicious. The steak however, had NO flavor whatsoever. I never use steak sauce but I made an exception this time because it was so void of flavor. I mentioned this to the waiter but he couldn't care less. I then mentioned it to the proprietor and he emphasized that the steak was hand cut. I agreed that the steak was a great cut and tender, however it lacked any flavor. I noticed in the restaurant magazine that they now took credit cards, however, they refused to accept my Visa card. As a result, I had to go to the ATM on site (can you believe this) and extract cash from my account. I was told that the restaurant's fees would be given to charity but what about my bank fees? These guys just don't get it. This is the 20th century. If I wanted a nice piece of beef with no taste, I would make it myself. I will never go there again. I would much rather go to Eddie Merlot's or Jack Ruby's for a great steak. Those are great tasting steaks.

Pleasant experience, but I expected better food. Don't get me wrong, the food was good, but no better than other local upscale steakhouses.

Wow,. It's been way too long since I have done this so I figured I would pick a great place to write about. My wife and I went to Pat's during the KY NCAA showdown weekend. Pat's is a wonderful establishment for Louisville. Lots of old charm and class at this place. The kind of restaurants cities and neighborhoods are proud to have around. We of course were celebrating an anniversary so why would you go anywhere else in the ville? Pat's is known for their steak. So that's what we ordered. We both decided on the T-bone steak. The steak was amazing as always. You get 2 sides. I would suggest the crushed cauliflower and green beans. And they make their green beans the right way. All mushy and with onions. None of that healthy crispy snap crap. You also get a house salad and a basket of rolls. Don't miss out on at least a bit of the rolls. It's like eating a mix between corn bread and the softest buttery biscuit you have ever had. We washed all that down with a reasonably priced to my surprise, bottle of champagne. Now that our bellies were about to burst. The owner brought us their ice cream sundae on the house! It was worth it! Always room for dessert. While you there, be sure to take in the scenery and enjoy your experience. The servers are wonderful here. Polite and attentive. But they stay away enough for you to enjoy just each other. Make sure you bring cash! They don't take plastic here. I am truly in love with this restaurant. If I were to have a last meal I think I would want it to be here.

We came here after the Derby. I called at 2:30 for reservations for 13 and was amazed they'd take us. We gathered on the patio for a drink before dinner and had a great time with excellent service. We were seated within 15 minutes of our reservation even though I'm sure the place had been packed for hours. Our table was in a small room on the top floor with a beautiful bar. If you go here with a group, ask for it. All of our meals were as ordered, hot, and excellent. They could bottle the salad dressing and close the restaurant. It's that good! Yes, it is cash only but do NOT let that stop you from eating here!

My last visit to Pat's was in 2006. A business trip brought me back to Louisville. I am glad to report nothing has changed. They still offer great steaks in a classic atmosphere. Do not go expecting Outback or Logan's. It is a classic local place that is very family friendly. The staff was very attentive and professional. The owners visited each table and quickly addressed even the smallest of points made by customers. I have and will continue to recommend it to any of my friends that find themselves in Louisville. I look forward to my next trip!

Two words: Bring cash! Pat's is old school they don't take plastic of any kind. This place reminds me of Caesar's in San Francisco not due to its cuisine but because you get the strange feeling you're being watched by the ghosts (steak-munching ghosts at that) of Rat Pack lounge singers. Or something. Try it out if you like your steak with heavy atmosphere.

My husband and I visited for his birthday a couple of days ago. The decor was nice and very old school, staff friendly and attentive. We quickly ordered after perusing the menu, and at the waiter's suggestion chose the homemade roquefort blue cheese dressing for our salads. Our drinks arrived, as did the salads. Right away, we were both underwhelmed. The roguefort dressing was runny, with minimal blue cheese flavor, or flavor in general. The salads themselves looked like they had been sitting for a while as well. The rest of our meal came quickly. Hard, dried out, flavorless store bought rolls graced our bread basket. My husband had asked if they did a "Pittsburgh style" steak, and was told yes. When it was brought to the table, it was rare instead. I think edible was the word he used, but nothing special. I had ordered the filet mignon, medium and although the filet was huge, it came medium well and was absolutely bereft of any flavor. My husband had ordered the creamed cauliflower and the lima beans, I the lima beans and a baked potato. We both agreed the cauliflower was runny and flavorless, but the lima beans outstanding. The baked potato had been roasted to fluffy perfection, but had so much butter on it, it dripped out of the too small bowl it had been served in and onto the table cloth. As it was my husband's birthday, they delivered an unwanted hot fudge sunday to the table without even asking if dessert was wanted. We did order dessert, and my husband was very satisfied with his cheesecake. My key lime pie was overly tart with a funky fake whipped topping that had a bad aftertaste and was hard to scrape off. The crust was not graham based but a very mushy, lard tasting concoction that aimed for pie crust but fell way short. I couldn't stomach more than three bites total. One other little thing that I wanted to point out, as we were sitting waiting on our food, my husband and I were starting to relax into the atmosphere, but something was amiss. I kept trying to figure it out, until I had an AhHa! moment. The old school rat pack music which was a must for this place was all Rod Stewart covers. Unbelievable! It was the final factor for our decision not to return. We have had better meals, service, decor, prices, music and most of all, food at many places in Louisville. So if you want a great steak, great ambiance and excellent food for approximately the same price, stick to Morton's. Your taste buds and ears will thank you for it.

While a Louisville staple, their ego has gotten the better of them. There is crazy good culinary in this town and this place is worth seeing, come only if you're ready for arrogance and mediocre food and to top it all off....CASH ONLY....which would be fine except for what you get.

    (1)
  • Willie S.

Couple of points - only four reviews? Cash only at an expensive place - reduce prices if you want the extra margin. Kiss my butt if you must call the small filet the "Queen Cut" - as a man who likes a decent sized cut of meat I am offended by this sexist intimidation approach. Others in my group ordered the small filet - I ordered it as the Queen Cut and asked why that would be necessary. Stupid. Sides overly heavy - salad average. Liked the decor. Won't try again.

Very old school feel and definately a top notch atmosphere for a steakhouse. I love walking into their restaurant for the feel and service alone. The family style sides, salad dressing, and rolls a very good. And I love the cash only policy for that added old school dimension. As a caveat, I only ever order strip steak. I have eaten here a few times but don't go out of my way for one reason. Their strip steak has no flavor. They cook them perfectly, but they lack that taste that a great steak should have. It tastes like a discount "select" steak from Kroger. I don't think it is Pat's as much as whoever is supplying them or poor aging of the steaks. If they could just get a succulent strip steak, I would go no where else for steak. Unfortunately, their beef pales in comparison to some of the downtown joints in the flavor department.

One of the better steak houses I have been to in a long time. It can be a bit pricey but is definitely worth the amount and quality of food that you will get. They also have a nice wine selection to go with the menu. The menu is limited so if you love steaks this is the place for you. But be for warned they do not take credit card so make sure you walk in with cash.

I have been to Pat's twice. Both times had excellent meals. The first time wait service was by an employee that worked there since he was 10 years old, he was 70 years old. He was fantastic. Second trip the waiter was annoying and told an off color joke to my co-workers of mixed company. They serve the sides family style and all were excellent. I split the enormous portions of battered fried pork chops with someone that had the fillet. The fillet was a better choice. Everyone of the group of 17 were happy. Good for groups if you book well in advance and get a private room. It is true about no credit cards so heed the warnings

Pat's is pure old school. From the homey (literally) ambiance to the menu selections through to the payment options (cash), it's a different experience. I find their steaks rather bland, as no seasoning or treatment options are available. Great cuts of meat, but the preparation leaves much to be desired. The sides are good, and occasions where I've had other entree selections (salmon), I was very pleased. Also the fried shrimp and frog leg appetizers are really good.

Pat's is my favorite steakhouse within 700 miles of Louisville. There is no resin to go to the chain steakhouses in Dowtown. Pat's steaks are much better, the setting can't be beat and the service is outstanding. The steaks are what to have and you can't go wrong. The oysters are interesting. Very thick and "meaty." Avoid the meatloaf. It's not worth it. Wine list is fine. Nothing really stands out. But it's all affordable and you will not be disappointed. Of course the pricing is a fraction of Morton's or Ruth Chris. And yes they do not take plastic. I held Avery large retirement party here years ago, and they just mailed me a bill after the dinner. Old school. Good people. If you want a damn fine, honest steak house experience, go here.

The food and the customer service at Pat's is always outstanding and this evening was above and beyond. Every time we go to Pat's, the owner is there working just as hard as anyone else. I am probably the ONLY person in the world who would go to a steakhouse and order tuna salad, but I don't eat meat. My husband is the meat eater. I generally just order several vegetables and perhaps a salad, but tonight (after a12-hour day) tuna salad sounded awesome. I asked if there was a lot of mayonnaise in the tuna salad and he explained there wasn't. I explained that was great because I don't like a lot of mayo. After ordering my tuna salad this evening, the waiter returned (very apologetically) and informed me that they were out of tuna salad. I then ordered vegetables instead. Consistent with the outstanding service they've always provided, the waiter obviously saw the disappointment on my face. He returned a few minutes later and explained that they found some tuna and were going to make the tuna salad for me. It was probably the best tuna salad I've ever had and I would bet that he made sure that whoever was making it made sure that there was very little mayo in it. He returned to our table several times to make sure everything was okay. I don't know of another restaurant that would have done this. Had we gone to any other restaurant, I would have simply just had to eat something other than what I really wanted. What a great experience this was!

  • Andrew W.

I have seriously mixed emotions over this place. Friendly waiter, but his jacket appeared to have been splattered with food in the kitchen. Salad was very generic with pretty good dressing. The dressings were served in a gravy boat; which left me wondering what happens to the unused amount? I had the 8oz filet, medium rare. It was swimming in juices on the plate, yet somehow was cooked medium and not dry on the inside. It was not very flavorful and no I am not the kind of person who goes to Texas Roadhouse for a steak... Overall, the place was over hyped and over priced. Judging by the mixed reviews, your experience may vary by who is cooking in the kitchen.
